School’s ‘Giving Tree’ Turns Into ‘Giving Counter’

Monday, December 12th, 2005

OK…I’m only going to say this once…

Whew…glad to get that off my chest.
Now don’t get me wrong; there is nothing wrong with being a Christian and having a Christmas Tree. I think it adds greatly to the holiday spirit and I have had one up every Christmas for my whole life. I plan on putting one up every Christmas until the Lord calls me Home.

To those people who say that Christams trees are too religious, please see my statement above.

BELLEVUE – School kids at Medina Elementary wanted to help those less fortunate.
The kids and their parents decided on a “Giving Tree.” It would have mittens as decorations and the mittens would carry the age and sex of the person getting the present and what they would really like this holiday season.
But the efforts ran afoul of some sensibilities. A parent complained that the tree was a Christian symbol. The principal agreed to remove the tree, but continue the giving effort.
The school is now operating near the Crossroads district of Bellevue as Medina Elementary is being rebuilt.
Near Crossroads, Mike Eddy has a Christmas tree lot.
He says the trees are symbols to him: “Well, for me, it is a very religious thing for me. I’m a Christian man and it is a symbol of Christianity.”
Exactly why it’s a Christmas symbol is a subject of lot of lofty arguments. But we all call them Christmas trees.
“Well, I was very gently reminded that the tree represents some part of Christianity,” Principal Betsy Hill told KOMO 4 News.
The tree, itself, was a nondescript coil of silver with a star on top. The school covered the star with a bow. But that wasn’t enough for the critic.

Israel readies forces for strike on nuclear Iran

Monday, December 12th, 2005

The Times is reporting that Israel is readying a force to deal with the Iranian nuclear weapons threat. You see, Israel has dealt with the international community long enough to understand that they will not only sit on their hands until Iran not only has nuclear weapons, but has also used them on Israel. Then the world will take action. They will most probably issue a strongly worded resolution of condemnation…against Israel for being an “aggressor”!!

ISRAEL’S armed forces have been ordered by Ariel Sharon, the prime minister, to be ready by the end of March for possible strikes on secret uranium enrichment sites in Iran, military sources have revealed.
The order came after Israeli intelligence warned the government that Iran was operating enrichment facilities, believed to be small and concealed in civilian locations.
Iran’s stand-off with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over nuclear inspections and aggressive rhetoric from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, who said last week that Israel should be moved to Europe, are causing mounting concern.
The crisis is set to come to a head in early March, when Mohamed El-Baradei, the head of the IAEA, will present his next report on Iran. El-Baradei, who received the Nobel peace prize yesterday, warned that the world was “losing patience” with Iran.
A senior White House source said the threat of a nuclear Iran was moving to the top of the international agenda and the issue now was: “What next?” That question would have to be answered in the next few months, he said.
Defence sources in Israel believe the end of March to be the “point of no return” after which Iran will have the technical expertise to enrich uranium in sufficient quantities to build a nuclear warhead in two to four years.
“Israel — and not only Israel — cannot accept a nuclear Iran,” Sharon warned recently. “We have the ability to deal with this and we’re making all the necessary preparations to be ready for such a situation.”

Pray for Israel in this situation. There is no doubt in any logical persons mind what will happen if the Iranians get nuclear weapons.

Palestinian Authority Claims Western Wall is Moslem Property

Monday, December 12th, 2005

Oh those wacky palestinians are at it again!! They say that the Western Wall in Jerusalem is also their property. Hehe…that’s a good joke…OK, wait a minute…do what? You mean they’re serious?? No way!! Not even a bunch of pali terrorist attempting to rewrite history could make that one up.
Guess they are serious.

The Palestinian Authority’s Office for Religious Affairs claims that the Western Wall, revered by Jews for generations as the last structural remnant of the Second Holy Temple, is Moslem property.
The Palestinian Authority’s official website, echoing the claims of its Religious Affairs office, also attempts to negate Jewish ownership of the Western Wall. The PA office claims Moslem ownership of the Western Wall by referring to the wall on its website as the Al-Boraq Wall. According to Moselm legend, the wall is the place where Mohammed tied his horse, named Boraq, before ascending to heaven.Moslem tradition holds that Mohammed rose to heaven from the Temple Mount, though that idea is not mentioned anywhere in the Koran, the central text of the Moslem faith.Rabbi Chaim Richman, Director of the International Department of the of the
Temple Institute in Jerusalem, said that the PA’s claims of Moslem ownership of the Western Wall has “far reaching implications” for Israel.Richman said that the PA’s denial of the Jewish Temple’s existence “is part of a campaign to totally eradicate, erase, and destroy all Jewish connection to the Temple Mount, Jerusalem, and the land of Israel.”The PA contends that Israeli archeological digs near the site of the Western Wall, also commonly known as the Wailing Wall, “totally failed to find any proof that support their false claims” to the Wall.Richman said that “Islam has for many years been waging a campaign to destroy any evidence of a Jewish presence on the Temple Mount.” He cited efforts by the PA and the Moslem Wakf (religious trust) to carry out excavations on the Temple Mount for the purpose of destroying artifacts relating to the First and Second Temples. He said that thousands of tons of archeological material has already been deliberately destroyed by the wakf.

Mary Visits Elizabeth

Monday, December 12th, 2005

Luke 1:39-45 New International Version (NIV)

Mary Visits Elizabeth

At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!”

What exactly are you celebrating?

Monday, December 12th, 2005

J.i.L reader beth, has posed a very good question that I want to re-post for general discussion. She ask “if a Christmas (or even “Holiday”) celebration is not religious in nature. What exactly are these people celebrating?
My wife and I discussed it some and wondered if it might not have to do with the over commercialization of Christmas causing people to disassociate it with Christ Birth.
This is certainly one of several causes, but I still have to wonder…what is going on in the mind of someone who does not believe in Christ when they celebrate Christmas? What exactly are they celebrating?
