Special Edition of Rapture Ready’s Nearing Midnight

Friday, January 6th, 2006

See this special edition of Rapture Ready’s Nearing Midnight post for January 5th. Todd and Terry make some very valid observations concerning Hal Lindsey and Trinity Broadcasting Network’s (TBN) separation over their censorship of his program about the Middle East back in December. You can find Hal over on Daystar network now.

Jan 5

For this special mid-week update, Todd and Terry have decided to cover the same subject:
Goodbye Lindsey; Hello Harlot Church

When I first heard that the Trinity Broadcasting Network had pulled Hal Lindsey’s “The International Intelligence Briefing” program because he was casting Islam in a bad light while favoring Israel, I thought the people disseminating this news had made some terrible mistake. I regard TBN to be riddled with apostasy, but I didn’t think they would be willing to make such a giant step in the wrong direction.
Evangelical Christians have always had a pro-Israel stance. Because Arab nations have traditionally sought Israel’s destruction, it has been a no-brainer for evangelicals to side with the Jewish state. TBN does not have the option of choosing the middle ground. If take the Arabs’ side, you will find yourself cheering the Gog/Arab invasion of Ezekiel 38 and 39.
Jan Crouch, TBN’s vice president for scheduling, gave the order to remove Lindsey from the December lineup. She apparently did not feel Hal was fitting into the “love gospel” that they wish to present to the world.
The network first showed its true nature by lying about its reason for removing the show. It said the suspension was simply a traditional hiatus in lieu of Christmas programming. TBN later revised that statement to confirm that they believed Lindsey had “placed Arabs in a negative light.”
John Casoria, TBN’s general counsel, explained “TBN is a worldwide ministry; we have an entire channel that airs 24 hours a day, seven days a week in Arabic,” he said. “We are trying to reach the Islamic world and open a dialogue with them regarding Christ and Christianity. We do not feel that the best witness of Christ is to bash them but rather to show them the nature of Christ – the way Christ said to present himself – and that is through love, understanding and the presentation of the gospel to them.”
Lindsey defended himself by saying, “I don’t have to cast radical Muslims in a bad light. If the intimidation and persecution of moderate Muslims makes radical Islam look bad, that is because it is bad – not that I ‘cast’ them in a bad light. But I have never cast the Arabs as a race in a bad light.
“I also seek to show that radical Islam poses the greatest danger ever faced by the United States,” he added. “I believe that God called me as ‘a watchman on the wall’ to warn America and I must obey – although it is sometimes unpopular.”
Because of TBN’s efforts at censoring him, Lindsey announced he was moving to the Daystar network. It has become a haven for ministries that still believe the Word of God. Unfortunately, Daystar only has a fraction of the audience that Trinity is able to draw.

Re-Post: Deliverance from Oslo curse?

Friday, January 6th, 2006

A commentary from Middle Eastern expert, Hal Lindsey, posted on World Net Daily.

New Years Eve I predicted that something would happen to Ariel Sharon that would facilitate Benjamin Netanyahu to become the new prime minister. Though I am very sorry to hear of Sharon’s massive stroke, it appears that it will facilitate Netanyahu replacing him in the next election.
Sharon’s sudden fall from power has brought alarm to the liberals in Israel who still live in the delusion that giving the Palestinians the West Bank and at least half of Jerusalem will bring peace.
Leftist Israeli journalist and senior fellow at the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies Hirsh Goodman described Netanyahu as a man whose policies are diametrically opposed to Sharon’s and under whose leadership the Roadmap “peace” plan would bog down.
Jerusalem News Wire correspondent Stan Goodenough also spotlighted this concern:
And as expressions of concern for Sharon and for the peace process were being aired from the White House to 10 Downing Street and from Paris to Beijing, expressions of consternation and anxiety were being voiced by many “experts” at the prospect of former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu being returned to power in March.
As I warned in my New Year’s Eve message, the United Nations, United States and European Union have all used the Oslo Agreement as a basis to force Israel into indefensible borders by turning over strategic land to them. Israel is being forced to make one-sided concessions to the Palestinians who have not fulfilled even one promise that they vowed to do. They have not disarmed the terrorist groups among them. They have not stopped terrorist attacks against Israel. They have allowed Gaza to become a terrorist stronghold from which they bombard Israel daily with increasingly more powerful and lethal weapons.
No one seems to have a realistic view of Israel’s best interests except conservatives and religious Israelis. They are joined by Bible-believing Christians who believe in God’s unconditional promises to Israel.
Goodenough noted, “Sharon’s willingness to proceed with the forced removal of his people from their homes in Gaza pushed hundreds of thousands of Jews to prayer. Untold numbers of Christians, too, went to prayer for divine intervention.” It appears that those prayers have been dramatically answered.
Mr. Netanyahu has the clearest overall understanding of radical Islam’s intentions and how to deal with them. In my recent interview with him, he clearly outlined the disasters that the Oslo Agreement and its resulting plans have brought upon Israel. He also cogently set forth the most brilliant analysis of what he would do to set Israel free from the resulting policies that are clearly leading Israel into destruction.
I believe his election will bring Israel back to reality. I believe that Israel’s survival as a nation is quite literally at stake.

Pat Robertson: Stroke is God’s wrath

Friday, January 6th, 2006

Sometimes when one thinks something, it is not always best to express those thoughts, even if one does own his own television network. When Christians do this, even if they are correct in their statements, the liberal press is more then happy to make this their “top of the news” report and play it for all it’s worth. “Look at those crazy, intolerant, right wing Christians again”, they’ll say. More damage then good, Pat.

Conservative Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s stroke was divine punishment for “dividing God’s land.”
“God considers this land to be his,” Robertson said Thursday on his TV program “The 700 Club.” “You read the Bible and he says `This is my land,’ and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says, `No, this is mine.”‘
Sharon, who ordered Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza last year, suffered a severe stroke on Wednesday.
In Robertson’s broadcast from his Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach, the evangelist said he had personally prayed about a year ago with Sharon, whom he called “a very tender-hearted man and a good friend.” He said he was sad to see Sharon in this condition.
He also said, however, that in the Bible, the prophet Joel “makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who ‘divide my land.”‘
Sharon “was dividing God’s land and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU (European Union), the United Nations, or the United States of America,” Robertson said.

Experts: Sharon has irreversible damage; best-case scenario: “vegetable”

Friday, January 6th, 2006

Israel Insider has an update on Sharon’s condition. Remember to take this with a grain of salt.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s vital signs, including cranial pressure, continued to decline Friday, following a third round of emergency brain surgery.
Sharon remained in serious condition and was to be kept in a medically-induced coma and on a respirator, probably until Sunday, to allow him time to heal, said Dr. Shmuel Shapira, deputy director of Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital where Sharon is being treated. Shapira told Army Radio it would take time to determine how much damage was caused by the widespread stroke that Sharon suffered Wednesday night. “This is a stage the requires much patience. We don’t expect a tremendous turnaround. We’re hoping for the best,” he said.
Israel Insider reported — citing media, hospital and defense sources — that Sharon’s cerebral brain activity ceased as of Thursday, January 5, at 11 am. Other mainstream Israeli media sources were slower to bring news of the massive, irreversible brain damage caused by the massive hemorrhage. Haaretz reported in its morning editions: “Unofficially, however, Sharon’s doctors echoed the assessment given to Haaretz earlier by other senior doctors who had not personally examined the premier, but were relying on media reports of his condition. These doctors told Haaretz that the prime minister appeared to have suffered extensive and irreversible brain damage. ” Yediot Aharonot, citing anonymous senior medical sources, also reported that Sharon had suffered massive, irreversible brain damage. The Jerusalem Post quoted “sources at Hadassah Hospital” as saying “late Thursday night that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered extensive damage to the right lobe of his brain during the hemorrhage.”
Dr. J. Martin Rabey, Chairman of the Assaf Rofeh Neurology Department, confirmed decisively that Sharon will never think as “homo sapiens” nor be able to speak, hear or be conscious. When asked whether the most optimistic scenario is that Sharon would be kept alive by breathing apparatus and be a non-conscious “vegetable,” he answered in the affirmative.

Police in Indian Village Ban Church, Allow Hindu Temple

Friday, January 6th, 2006

I knew that in islam, a person can be legally killed for converting from islam to Christianity. I was not aware that a Christian convert in India must register with the government prior to the “official” conversion. Pray for our Christian brothers and sisters in these countries as they go through real persecution, of the likes we can only imagine over here in the West.

Police decided on Jan. 3 to allow a makeshift Hindu temple in Umarkote village, but banned Christians from worshiping at a nearby house church following a conflict that led to Hindu extremists attacking four people.
The attackers had set up their temple near the house in October last year and then complained to police that the Christian worship disturbed their own rituals. On Dec. 29, they lodged an official complaint charging the Christians with forced conversions.
When three Christian women arrived at the house to attend a prayer meeting on Dec. 30, the extremists slapped them and pulled their hair, warning them not to attend any more services. They also slapped church member Samraj Rai, who had come to warn the women, and damaged his motorbike.
Fearing further violence, the victims did not go home but stayed with friends that night.
A delegation of church members went to the Umarkote police station on Dec. 31 to lodge a written complaint. The police accepted the document but would not register an official complaint.
Inspector Narayan Chand Barik told Compass that he had “received a complaint from the villagers saying that people in the house church were disturbing the temple. But I have not received a complaint from the Christians.”
Barik also said he had discovered that some of the church members had not informed district authorities before they converted to Christianity. Prior notification of conversion is required under the Orissa Freedom of Religion Act of 1967 and the Orissa Freedom of Religion Rules appended to the Act in 1989.
“Why is there a church if there are no Christians?” Barik said. “And if there are Christians, why haven’t they fulfilled the requirements of the law?”
When asked if the construction of the Hindu temple on public land was legal, he answered, “This is their traditional way of worshipping their god.”

Temple Under a Tree
Roots of the dispute go back to October 2005, when Umarkote villager Govind Nath set up a photo of a Hindu god under a tree about 50 meters from the house church, mission supervisor Chaitanya Nayak told Compass. Neighbors say Nath is a member of the Hindu extremist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
Two weeks later, Nath put a statue under the tree. A little later he built a small cement structure there and declared it to be a temple.
“Every Sunday morning after that, the temple started using loudspeakers for religious programs which disturbed the church,” Nayak said. “But we did not object to it, since we felt they also had a right to worship.”
On Dec.29, Nath lodged a complaint with police, alleging that the church was disturbing temple worship and that its members were forcibly converting local residents.
Later that day, police summoned home-owner Tirinath Nag and Pastor Jacob Khare and interrogated them for more than five hours at the police station.
Unaware of these developments, the three Christian women went to Nag’s house the next day for prayer and fasting and were attacked.
As a result of a meeting at the police station Jan. 3, police said they would allow the Hindu temple built on public land to continue to function. The Christians, however, were banned from holding services in Nag’s house. Inspector Barik said the Christians could meet at the home only for prayer – not for worship, preaching, or any other church-related activity.
At the meeting, he also asked both parties not to insult each other’s religious sentiments and not to use loudspeakers without prior permission from the other party.
Regarding the extremists’ charge that the Christians did not register their conversions, the Rev. Dr. D.B. Hrudaya said that some believers avoid public declarations of conversion because of lengthy and complicated procedures required by the state.
Under current laws, would-be converts must give a declaration of intent to a Magistrate. The police then check for any objections from family, friends or neighbors before the conversion is officially registered.
“Those who do get baptized and send a declaration to the district authorities are harassed by Hindu fundamentalists, who somehow get the information,” said Hrudaya, who represents a local chapter of the All India Christian Council. “It is a difficult situation for new converts.”
The state government ordered more stringent enforcement of the Orissa Freedom of Religion Act in July 2005, following similar religious disputes.

Religion loses out to belief in paranormal

Friday, January 6th, 2006

PEOPLE are more likely to believe in ghosts and the paranormal than have faith in an organised religion, a new survey has found.
A research by the Scottish Paranormal organisation of amateur enthusiasts showed that more than two thirds of people surveyed said they believed in the existence of ghosts and supernatural spirits.
This compares to only 55 per cent of the 2000 people questioned who said they had faith in a religion and believed in a god.
On Friday, ghost hunters affiliated to Scottish Paranormal will be gathering in Edinburgh to determine where the city’s most haunted areas are.
The team has already carried out investigations in Mary King’s Close and the Edinburgh Vaults – two of the city’s most notoriously haunted spots.
The Close was inhabited in the 16th and 17th centuries but was abandoned and sealed after an outbreak of plague, leading to chilling claims of paranormal sightings of former inhabitants.
Edinburgh medium Ewan Irvine, a member of the team, said: “It must always be the case that these areas are looked at in an unbiased way with both sceptics and believers coming together to look at these locations.”

Lets see what the Bible says about this. I’m going to quote a section from the “Got Questions” website.

Here are some Bible truths that relate to hauntings and visits by the spirits of dead people. There are only a few incidents that deal with the living having contact with a “dead” person.

a) In 1 Samuel 28:7-19, King Saul seeks a woman with a familiar spirit (demon) to inquire of Samuel about what to do. That she actually manages to communicate with the dead shocks her (v. 12) indicating to me that it did not previously happen.

b) In Matthew 17:1-8, Peter, James and John see Moses and Elijah with Jesus for a brief period of time.

c) In Luke 16:19-31 Jesus tells the story of the rich man and Lazarus. In this story we learn of there being two compartments for the dead until the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11f.). Also in the story the rich man asks for Lazarus to be sent back to warn the living. Moses says it would do not good because if they will not believe God’s written word, they will not believe though one should rise from the dead.

From the above three passages of Scripture, I would conclude that there are compartments in which the spirits of the dead dwell for now and that while there are a few instances in which God allowed interaction between the living and the dead, those situations were very rare and not nearly as common as contact between people and angelic beings. Also Luke 16:27-31 would indicate that no human spirits are allowed to return to visit the living without permission, and if permission is not granted for the purpose of warning people to flee from the wrath to come, it would not be given for trifling reasons.

Read the rest of this information from “Got Questions” here.

In my opionion, hauntings are from the devil and his demons, the sole purpose of which is to get people to focus their attention away from God and Jesus’ messages of salvation, and open their minds up to deception and darkness.

New Disclosure Rules Expose NEA’s Millions to ‘Left-Wing’ Causes

Friday, January 6th, 2006

No surprise here.

(AgapePress) – A union watchdog group says a new disclosure report confirms that the nation’s largest teachers union, the National Education Association (NEA), is heavily involved in the wider liberal political movement and the Democratic Party.
Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal reported that the NEA gave $65 million last year to liberal groups such as People for the American Way, the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), and the Human Rights Campaign, which is the largest pro-homosexual lobby in the U.S.
In the past, unions with at least one private sector member have had to report their costs and expenses, but they have been able to lump them into large categories such as contributions, gifts, and grants. But now, under new federal rules, the NEA must detail where all its grants have gone, down to $5,000.
Mike Antonucci with the California-based Education Intelligence Agency has been monitoring the NEA for years. He says the new rules have not changed the NEA’s political activity, but they help reveal the union’s extensive contributions to left-wing causes.
“Now we can see with our own eyes where [a lot of this money] is going,” Antonucci explains, “and we can’t just sit around and accept the union’s explanation that ‘Oh, this is going to improve public education’ [or] whatever words they use to describe it.”
According to the spokesman for the Education Intelligence Agency, the union gave very little to “right-wing” causes. Antonucci offers this explanation for that which might be considered in that category.
“They want to cultivate more of what they would call ‘moderate Republicans’ against conservative opponents,” he says. “So whenever you see NEA political money going to Republicans, it’s always when the Republican is in a primary against a more conservative Republican.”
Although the NEA says it has favored the disclosure rules all along, Antonucci notes the union claimed the regulations were onerous when it unsuccessfully sued the U.S. Department of Labor.
Reportedly more than half of the NEA’s 600 employees make six-figure salaries, yet the average teacher made only $48,000 last year.

Judge gives child-rapist 60-day sentence

Friday, January 6th, 2006

Is there any sanity in the legal system these days???

Claiming he no longer believes in punishment, a Vermont judge issued a 60-day sentence to a man who confessed to repeatedly raping a girl over a four-year period, beginning when she was 7 years old.
Judge Edward Cashman disagreed with prosecutors who thought Mark Hulett, 34, of Williston, Vt., deserved eight to 20 years in prison, reported WCAX-TV in Burlington, Vt.
Cashman said he’s more concerned now about rehabilitation.
“The one message I want to get through is that anger doesn’t solve anything. It just corrodes your soul,” Cashman told a packed Burlington courtroom made up mostly of people related to the victim.
Prior to the decision, Chittenden Deputy Prosecutor Nicole Andreson argued punishment “is a valid purpose.”
“The state recognizes that the court may not agree or subscribe to that method of sentencing but the state does,” she said, according to the Burlington TV station. “The state thinks that it is a very important factor for the court to consider.”
Cashman said he wants to make sure Hulett gets sex-offender treatment.
Under Department of Corrections classification, however, Hulett is considered a low-risk for re-offense, which means he doesn’t qualify for in-prison treatment.
Cashman, therefore, issued a 60-day sentence and ordered Hulett to complete sex-treatment when he gets out or face a possible life sentence.
The judge said that when he began 25 years ago, he handed down tough sentences but now believes “it accomplishes nothing of value.”
“It doesn’t make anything better; it costs us a lot of money; we create a lot of expectation, and we feed on anger,” Cashman explained to the people in the court, WCAX reported.
Members of the victim’s family were outraged.
“I don’t like it,” the victim’s mother told the TV station, in tears. “He should pay for what he did to my baby and stop it here. She’s not even home with me and he can be home for all this time, and do what he did in my house.”

Nope, I guess there isn’t any sanity in the legal system anymore.

Ariel Sharon Back in for Third Surgery

Friday, January 6th, 2006

Continue to Pray for Mr. Sharon and the country of Israel.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was rushed back to the operating room after a precautionary CAT scan performed on him late Friday morning showed new bleeding in the same area of the brain and an expansion in the cerebral ventricles in his brain.
Director General of Hadassah Hospital, Doctor Shlomo Mor-Yosef told reporters that Sharon was experiencing an escalation in cranial and blood pressure as well.
“It was decided to bring the prime minister to the operating room in order to deal with these two issues, to drain the bleeding and to decrease the intracranial pressure,” he said.
Doctors did not elaborate on Sharon’s prognosis, but an aide to Shimon Peres said the veteran Israeli politician’s staff was told that Sharon’s situation is “not good.” The aide spoke on condition of anonymity because only Peres’ spokesman was authorized to speak to the media.
Following a traumatic day for Israel, in which Sharon nearly lost his life after suffering an initial extensive cranial hemorrhage, the dir.-gen. of the hospital reported Friday morning that Sharon’s condition remained serious but stable and that his vital signs remained strong.
