Curse of the Moderates

Friday, February 10th, 2006

Some interesting comments from Charles Krauthammer of the Washington Post.

As much of the Islamic world erupts in a studied frenzy over the Danish Muhammad cartoons, there are voices of reason being heard on both sides. Some Islamic leaders and organizations, while endorsing the demonstrators’ sense of grievance and sharing their outrage, speak out against using violence as a vehicle of expression. Their Western counterparts — intellectuals, including most of the major newspapers in the United States — are similarly balanced: While, of course, endorsing the principle of free expression, they criticize the Danish newspaper for abusing that right by publishing offensive cartoons, and they declare themselves opposed, in the name of religious sensitivity, to doing the same.
God save us from the voices of reason.

What passes for moderation in the Islamic community — “I share your rage but don’t torch that embassy” — is nothing of the sort. It is simply a cynical way to endorse the goals of the mob without endorsing its means. It is fraudulent because, while pretending to uphold the principle of religious sensitivity, it is interested only in this instance of religious insensitivity.
Have any of these “moderates” ever protested the grotesque caricatures of Christians and, most especially, Jews that are broadcast throughout the Middle East on a daily basis? The sermons on Palestinian TV that refer to Jews as the sons of pigs and monkeys? The Syrian prime-time TV series that shows rabbis slaughtering a gentile boy to ritually consume his blood? The 41-part (!) series on Egyptian TV based on that anti-Semitic czarist forgery (and inspiration of the Nazis), “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” showing the Jews to be engaged in a century-old conspiracy to control the world?
A true Muslim moderate is one who protests desecrations of all faiths. Those who don’t are not moderates but hypocrites, opportunists and agents for the rioters, merely using different means to advance the same goal: to impose upon the West, with its traditions of freedom of speech, a set of taboos that is exclusive to the Islamic faith. These are not defenders of religion but Muslim supremacists trying to force their dictates upon the liberal West.
And these “moderates” are aided and abetted by Western “moderates” who publish pictures of the Virgin Mary covered with elephant dung and celebrate the “Piss Christ” (a crucifix sitting in a jar of urine) as art deserving public subsidy, but who are seized with a sudden religious sensitivity when the subject is Muhammad.
Had they not been so hypocritical, one might defend their refusal to republish these cartoons on the grounds that news value can sometimes be trumped by good taste and sensitivity. After all, on grounds of basic decency, American newspapers generally — and correctly — do not publish pictures of dead bodies, whatever their news value.
There is a “sensitivity” argument for not having published the cartoons in the first place, back in September when they first appeared in that Danish newspaper. But it is not September. It is February. The cartoons have been published, and the newspaper, the publishers and Denmark itself have come under savage attack. After multiple arsons, devastating boycotts, and threats to cut off hands and heads, the issue is no longer news value, i.e., whether a newspaper needs to publish them to inform the audience about what is going on. The issue now is solidarity.
The mob is trying to dictate to Western newspapers, indeed Western governments, what is a legitimate subject for discussion and caricature. The cartoons do not begin to approach the artistic level of Salman Rushdie’s prose, but that’s not the point. The point is who decides what can be said and what can be drawn within the precincts of what we quaintly think of as the free world.
The mob has turned this into a test case for freedom of speech in the West. The German, French and Italian newspapers that republished these cartoons did so not to inform but to defy — to declare that they will not be intimidated by the mob.
What is at issue is fear. The unspoken reason many newspapers do not want to republish is not sensitivity but simple fear. They know what happened to Theo van Gogh, who made a film about the Islamic treatment of women and got a knife through the chest with an Islamist manifesto attached.
The worldwide riots and burnings are instruments of intimidation, reminders of van Gogh’s fate. The Islamic “moderates” are the mob’s agents and interpreters, warning us not to do this again. And the Western “moderates” are their terrified collaborators who say: Don’t worry, we won’t. It’s those Danes. We’re clean. Spare us. Please.

Christians blamed for ‘gay’-bar rampage

Friday, February 10th, 2006

The last time I checked, people who are striving to follow the Word of God (the Bible) do not use guns and hatchets against anyone, let alone homosexuals, unless it’s in self defense. I think maybe the homosexual activist might want to focus more on the fact that he has a swastika tattoo and had Neo-Nazi and white supremecist materials in his home, rather than trying to paint him as an outstanding, churchgoing Christian and pinning his behavior on evangelical Christians. Anyone who acts like Robida, basing his violence “in the name of God”, needs to go back and read the Bible again.

A leading homosexual activist group is blaming a deranged teenager’s violent rampage through a “gay” bar in Massachusetts on “hatred and loathing” fueled by Christian groups and leaders such as James Dobson.
The
National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Executive Director Matt Foreman noted the Feb. 2 attack by 18-year-old Jacob Robida in a press release that day. Robida – who sports a swastika tattoo and had Neo-Nazi and white supremecist materials in his home – was charged with attempted murder for a hatchet and gun attack that left three men wounded in New Bedford, Mass.
“The hatred and loathing fueling this morning’s vicious attack on gay men in New Bedford is not innate, it is learned,” Foreman contended. “And who is teaching it? Leaders of the so-called Christian right, that’s who. Individuals like James Dobson of Focus on the Family, the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins, the Rev. Pat Robertson and their ilk are obsessed with homosexuality.”
Foreman asserted these leaders “use their vast resources, media networks and affiliated pulpits to blame lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people for all the ills of society.”
“They disguise their hatred as ‘deeply held religious beliefs,'” he claimed.
Foreman also complained of “vicious” opposition to homosexual-rights activists and “hate-filled rantings” by the leaders of two Massachusetts groups, Brian Camenker of the
Article 8 Alliance and Ed Pawlick of MassNews.
“The blood spilled this morning is on their hands,” Foreman charged.
Article 8 Alliance responded: “It’s now becoming clear that homosexual activist groups intend to use this incident as a springboard for a vicious and cowardly series of attacks on anyone who publicly criticizes the homosexual movement – similar to what happened after the Matthew Shepard incident.”
“Today” show anchor Katie Couric famously brought up Dobson’s Focus on the Family in an Oct. 12, 1998, interview with then-Wyoming Gov. Jim Geringer about Shepard, whose murder was believed to be an “anti-gay” hate crime – a charge recently debunked in an investigation by ABC’s “20/20.”
Couric asked whether “conservative political organizations like the Christian Coalition, the Family Research Council and Focus on the Family are contributing to this anti-homosexual atmosphere” by suggesting homosexuals can change their sexual orientation.
“That prompts people to say,” Couric added in her question, “‘If I meet someone who is homosexual, I’m going to take action and try to convince them or try to harm them.'”
After the Nov. 26, 2004, “20/20” show, Focus on the Family sent a letter to NBC News President Neal Shapiro
requesting an apology “on behalf of Christians maligned by Couric” but was rebuffed.

Employees get microchip implants

Friday, February 10th, 2006

Even if I didn’t believe in the book of Revelations in the Bible, I would be looking for another job before I’d take one of these. At worst it is the predecessor to the “Mark” talked about in Revelations 13:16. At best it’s a terrible invasion of privacy.

Company requires controversial device for certain workers.

A Cincinnati company is requiring any employee who works in its secure data center to be implanted with a microchip.
The video surveillance company
CityWatcher.com injected two of its employees in the triceps area of the arm with the VeriChip, a glass-encapsulated RFID, or radio-frequency identification, tag, according to Liz McIntyre, co-author of “Spychips: How Major Corporations and Government Plan to Track Your Every Move with RFID.”
CityWatcher.com’s Network Administrator Khary Williams spoke with McIntyre by phone Wednesday after the company announced it had integrated the VeriChip VeriGuard product into its access control system.
The tag can be read through clothing from a few inches away.
The highly controversial device is being marketed as a way to access secure areas, link to medical records and make purchases like a credit card.
As
WorldNetDaily reported, when former Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson joined the VeriChip Corp. board of directors, he pledged to get chipped and encouraged Americans to do the same so their electronic medical records would be available in emergencies.
But McIntyre and co-author Katherine Albrecht contacted VeriChip Corp. in December and were told the chipping never took place.
VeriChip spokesman John Procter said Thompson had been “too busy” to undergo the procedure, adding that he had no clear plans to do so.
CityWatcher’s Williams said a local doctor already has implanted two of the company’s employees with the VeriChip devices.
“I will eventually” receive an implant, too, he added.
Meanwhile, Williams accesses the data center with a VeriChip implant housed in a heart-shaped plastic casing that hangs from his key chain.
He told McIntyre he had no reservations about having the procedure and would do it as soon as time permits.
But McIntyre says she’s worried that CityWatchers – a government contractor specializing in surveillance projects – would be the first publicly to incorporate the technology in the workplace.
CityWatcher provides video surveillance, monitoring and video storage for government and businesses, with cameras set up on public streets throughout Cincinnati.
The company hopes the VeriChip will bolster its proximity or “prox” card security system that controls access to the room where the video footage is stored, said Gary Retherford of Six Sigma Security, Inc., the company that provided the VeriChip technology.
“The prox card is a system that can be compromised,” said Retherford, referring to the card’s well-known vulnerability to hackers.
He explained that chipping employees “was a move to increase the layer of security.”
“It was attractive because it could be integrated with the existing system,” he said.
McIntyre points out, however, researchers have shown the VeriChip to be vulnerable to hackers.
Security researcher Jonathan Westhues showed last month how a hacker can clone a chip and theoretically duplicate someone’s implant to access a secure area.
Westhues believes the VeriChip is not secure and “not good for anything.”
“No one I spoke with at Six Sigma Security or at CityWatcher knew that the VeriChip had been hacked,” said McIntyre, author of a chapter titled “Hacking the Prox Card” for Simson Garfinkel’s recent “RFID: Applications, Security, and Privacy.”
“They were also surprised to hear of VeriChip’s downsides as a medical device,” he added. “It was clear they weren’t aware of some of the controversy surrounding the implant.”
Albrecht says that while CityWatcher.com does not require employees to receive the chip to keep their jobs, the company is establishing an unsettling precedent.
“It’s wrong to link a person’s paycheck with getting an implant,” she said. “Once people begin ‘voluntarily’ getting chipped to perform their job duties, it won’t be long before pressure gets applied to those who refuse.”
Albrecht believes the VeriChip will be hard to sell when people learn of the security flaws, combined with a general squeamishness about implants.
“Obviously, nobody wants their employer coming at them with a giant hypodermic needle,” she said. “But when people realize it takes a scalpel and surgery to remove the device if it gets hacked, they’ll really think twice. An implant is disgusting enough going in, but getting it out again is a bloody mess.”

Cocky West: “I Should Be In The Bible”

Friday, February 10th, 2006

The term “cocky” doesn’t even go far enough to define what West is being. I’m surprised his head even fits through doorways anymore. I guess in California they use oversized doorways a lot though.

Cocky rap star KANYE WEST is calling for a revised edition of THE BIBLE, because he thinks he should be a character in it.
The JESUS WALKS hitmaker, who picked up three Grammy Awards last night (08FEB06), feels sure he’d be “a griot” (West African storyteller) in a modern Bible.
He says, “I bring up historical subjects in a way that makes kids want to learn about them. I’m an inspirational speaker.
“I changed the sound of music more than one time… For all those reasons, I’d be a part of the Bible. I’m definitely in the history books already.”

Re-Post: “The Tolerance Card Played In Cartoon Row” from Rapture Alert

The Tolerance Card Played In Cartoon Row
by Michael G. Mickey
(2-9-06)

On several occasions I’ve brought up that I believe the powers of darkness, under the leadership of Satan, are using three socio-political mechanisms in an attempt to silence the Bible-believing Church and the message of hope it is commissioned to bring to a lost and dying world, but, as a refresher, here they are again:
Moral Relativism – Wikipedia defines moral relativism as “the position that moral or ethical propositions do not reflect absolute and universal moral truths but instead are relative to social, cultural, historical or personal references, and that there is no single standard by which to assess an ethical proposition’s truth.”
Political Correctness – Wikipedia defines political correctness as “a term used in various countries to describe real or perceived attempts to impose limits on the acceptable language, terms, and viewpoints in public discussion. While it usually refers to a linguistic phenomenon, it is sometimes extended to cover political ideology or public behavior.”
Tolerance – The American Heritage® Dictionary defines tolerance as “the capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others.”
The primary goal of my little ministry, RaptureAlert.com, is to sound the alert that Jesus Christ is coming soon. A secondary goal (one of many) is to show Christians (and even skeptics) how the news of our world today is demonstrative that the prophecies recorded in the Bible are accurate and the world is rapidly nearing the end of the Church Age, as well as the onset of the Tribulation Period itself.
When the recent row erupted between the West and Islam over the publication of some caricatures of Islam’s Prophet Mohammed in a Danish newspaper that has incensed the Muslim world to the point of violence, I immediately recognized it was of significance to those of us watching the news of our world today for evidence that Jesus Christ is coming soon. This morning, having looked at somewhere near 100 news stories, I’m realizing the cartoon row may, much like my website, have a primary purpose or goal, as well as a secondary purpose as well – one that should be of great concern to the Church!
As even the most basic student of Bible prophecy understands, the battle to end all battles in recorded human history is going to take place in the troubled Middle East, culminating in the visible, physical, bodily return of Jesus Christ at Armageddon. Bible prophecy, particularly Ezekiel chapters 38 & 39, shows us that tensions between the West and the Islamic world (along with Russia, the self-proclaimed “Defender of the Islamic world“) are going to boil over in the prophetic future. As such, the fact Western freedoms have led to the publishing of some cartoons mockful of Islam’s Prophet, causing the Islamic world to react angrily and violently is no surprise. What we’re seeing, through rising tensions on both sides of the current cartoon row, is dramatic prophetic posturing to be sure, but that’s not all that’s going on. Today at least, my mind is clearly seeing a secondary purpose or goal of the recent blowup may be coming into focus, buried among which is the quieting or, ideally, silencing of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let me explain.
There’s no doubt that regular readers of this website have come to be suspicious, at the very least, of the liberal media (film/news/radio/television) when it comes to the role it is actively playing in shaping the way humanity views the spiritual, moral and ethical issues confronting mankind in these end times. As I’ve documented recently, human-implantable microchip and RFID technologies have gotten a major push since the beginning of 2006, preparing the world for introduction of the mark of the beast to come in the prophetic future. Not only that, Hollywood is dramatically stepping up its efforts to ‘homosexualize’ America, with its primary vehicle of propaganda presently being the gay cowboy love story “Brokeback Mountain”, which Hollywood continues to pass out awards to, in spite of the fact the movie isn’t doing nowhere near as good in theaters as Hollywood’s many honors bestowed on it would seem to indicate. My point? Subtly, ever so subtly, mankind is being deceived into a new way of thinking – a secular way of thinking. How does the current cartoon row play into the big picture in this regard? The tolerance card is starting to be played!
As reported in the Jerusalem Post, an interfaith group comprised of Jewish, Muslim and Christian clerics, which is a topic for end times discussion within itself due to the role such ecumenical groups will play in bringing about a one-world religion in the prophetic future, is stating “Israeli media reprinting of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad oversteps the bounds of journalistic freedom.” Why? Because it hurt people’s feelings, of course. A rabbi quoted in the article states, “Freedom of speech does not include the right to hurt the feelings of another.”
To be sure, I don’t believe it’s morally appropriate, in any manner, for anyone to mockingly attack the spiritual faith of another, but for religious leaders of any faith (Jewish, Muslim, Christian or any other) to suggest that freedom of speech does not include the right to say anything that hurts the feelings of another is opening pandora’s box to be sure! Why? Because that’s just what Satan wants us to do!
Under the banners of tolerance, political correctness, and moral relativism, darkness is striving – and apparently successfully when religious leaders begin echoing the truth-silencing rhetoric of God’s enemies – to stop freedom of speech, the vehicle through which the born-again Christian utilizes the Word of God to convict the hearts of those living their lives in rebellion to the God of the Bible, among whom are the Muslims presently upset by the cartoons fueling all the recent conflict. Why? Because Muslims reject the fact that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, as well as their Savior, to the peril of their eternal souls. I say that not to hurt the feelings of Muslims, but out of love, in the hope they will come to faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, thereby entering into the family of God, as well as into brotherhood with us.
The powers of darkness don’t want the Church to convict anyone’s heart through the gospel of Jesus Christ through freedom of speech so whatever can be done to “keep people’s feelings from being hurt”, whether the hurtful issue is religiously-demeaning cartoons or the word ‘Christmas’ appearing at a government-sponsored event, needs to be done! Believe it or not, one thing ties into another in these end times when deception is on the end times menu we’re all being fed information from!
Along the same line of thought, the European Union is now calling for the media to self-regulate its content in light of the cartoon row, according to an EU Observer article. The Observer’s article quotes European vice-commissioner Franco Frattini of Italy as saying the media should (emphasis added mine) “sign up to a voluntary code of conduct on reporting on Islam and other religions, in a bid to avoid future Danish cartoon-type disputes”, adding that be believes “journalists and media chiefs should be aware of their responsibility when exercising their right of freedom of expression, and that they should voluntarily agree to self-regulation in cases where sensitive religious issues are involved.” The underlying message, in my opinion, is clear: Let’s avoid discussions of religious matters that will lead to hurt feelings.
The EU Commission, a branch of government in the kingdom the Antichrist is going to ultimately lead to global power, is planning to discuss details of a media code of conduct with press organizations and major media outlets in the coming months, which Frattini hopes will “give the Muslim world the message: we are aware of the consequences of exercising the right of free expression, we can and we are ready to self-regulate that right.”
Did you catch that, Christians? The EU is aware of the consequences of exercising the right of free expression! If those words don’t chill the heart of Christians, particularly those living inside the borders of the European Union, they certainly should because they provide us with a glimpse of what is to come in the future – a day when proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to anyone it may offend (or somehow hurt the delicate feelings of) will place the carrier of that divinely-inspired message of hope in peril.
According to a WorldNetDaily article, the United Nations, a forerunner of sorts of the new world order to come, and the European Union, the birth pains of the Antichrist’s new world order to come, have “reached agreement to issue a joint statement condemning cartoon “insults to Islam” that were first published in a Danish newspaper and have been widely reprinted recently, resulting in a rash of violence throughout the Muslim world.”
Question: How many times have you seen a governmental power apologize because someone made a mockery of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? If it’s ever happened, I’m not aware of it, which brings me to a thought I’ll close this rant with.
While many fail to sense there is any evil plan underway threatening religious freedom and expression, particularly the practicing of the Christian faith, the foundations are being laid before our very eyes for just that to take place. Why do I say that? Because, when we reach a place in human history that we are no longer allowed to say things deemed hurtful to others, the decision as to what is hurtful to others and what isn’t hurtful will be made by the same people and powers who have allowed the name of Christ and all things having to do with God to be trampled on in classrooms, courtrooms, newspapers and on television and radio all over the world without lifting so much as a finger in protest – the same enemies of God who are quick to apologize to anyone other than God or a Christian where similar issues are concerned!
NBC’s recently-cancelled show “The Book of Daniel” caused quite a stir in the Christian community with its portrayal of Jesus Christ as the hippy-like sidekick of pill-popping priest Daniel Webster. Did the United Nations apologize to Christians? How about the European Union? What is hurtful, you see, depends on who is being hurt!
Satan, lest we should forget, is called “the god of this world”, as seen in 2nd Corinthians 4:4, and “the prince of the power of the air” in Ephesians 2:2. God has a plan for everything, as detailed in the Bible, including judgment against Satan for his many crimes committed against the throne of the Almighty. Satan and powers supportive of him know this. Therefore, it is the goal of Satan and his minions to counter that plan at every turn.
While I know what the ultimate outcome of the battle between good and evil will be, as detailed in the Word of God, the more I study events taking place in the world around us, the more apparent it becomes to me we’re in for a major fight from here on out, at least until the Lord calls us home to His side.
Armor up, Christians!

“We Submit! A World of Surrender Monkeys” from The Scriptorium

Friday, February 10th, 2006

Jennifer at The Scriptorium has laid out how the world has just given in, basically surrendered to the violence and threats of the islamic world.

The world, including the U.S., can no longer make fun of the French. European nations, Africa, Canada, President Bush to a lesser extent, and several other countries have sent a message to the rampaging Muslims of the world. We surrender and submit. Here’s a round-up of the submission to Islam:
A voluntary
vow of censorship from the EU.
Franco Frattini, the European Union commissioner for justice, freedom and security, revealed the idea for a code of conduct in an interview with The Daily Telegraph. Mr. Frattini, a former Italian foreign minister, said the EU faced the “very real problem” of trying to reconcile “two fundamental freedoms, the freedom of expression and the freedom of religion”.
Millions of European Muslims felt “humiliated” by the publication of cartoons of Mohammed, he added, calling on journalists and media chiefs to accept that “the exercising of a right is always the assumption of a responsibility”. He appealed to European media to agree to “self-regulate”.
Accepting such self-regulation would send an important political message to the Muslim world, Mr Frattini said.
By agreeing to a charter “the press will give the Muslim world the message: we are aware of the consequences of exercising the right of free expression, we can and we are ready to self-regulate that right”, he said.

Basically, a new freedom, the freedom from being humiliated or offended, is created, and that negates any right to freedom of speech and expression. We’re free people as long as Islam doesn’t get upset. That’s pretty scary considering Islam is a religion that advocates cutting peoples hands off, beheading infidels, and killing Jews and Christians. What I find most perplexing about this surrender from liberal governments is that most women in these countries obviously have no problem with it. Islam is also a religion that won’t allow women to drive in Islamic countries, forces women to walk 10 paces behind men, gives women no rights in marriage or divorce, and allows mercy killings if a woman is unfortunate enough to be raped. This is the religion that is now being allowed to dictate what our freedoms are and how they will be regulated.
Malaysia shuts down newspaper for printing cartoons
The Malaysian government shut down on Thursday a local newspaper after it published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, the official Bernama news agency said. Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who is also the internal security minister, ordered the indefinite shutdown of The Sarawak Tribune with immediate effect, Bernama said. “Internal Security Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today ordered Sarawak Tribune’s publication permit to be suspended indefinitely with immediate effect for reproducing controversial caricatures of Prophet Mohammed on February 4,” it said.
Even the
POSSESSION of the cartoons was banned in Malaysia.
Yemen shut down a newspaper for printing the cartoons, and issued a warrant for the editor’s arrest.
South African courts outlawed the cartoons, effectively eliminating freedom of the press in that country. Apparently, the Muslim Judicial Council is now making the rules in South Africa.
The South African Freedom of Expression Institute says a judgment by the Johannesburg High Court which prevents the publishing of cartoons found offensive by the Muslim community is a major threat to press freedom. The Freedom of Expression Institute argues that while the cartoon should not be published, that decision should be made by newspaper editors not the courts.
The Muslim Judicial Council applied to the High Court for an interdict to prevent two of South Africa’s largest media houses publishing the offensive cartoons.

Ukraine apologized to Muslims for offending them.
Poland apologized for reprinting the cartoons.
A university in Canada reprinted the cartoons in the schools newspaper, and campus police promptly confiscated all 2,000 copies.
Sweden is
shutting down websites that reprint the cartoons. Islam was able to do in Sweden what the U.N., China, Iran, and other oppressive governments haven’t been able to do – end freedom of speech on the internet.
Of course, Koffi and
the U.N. criticized the evil cartoons and called on everyone to be sensitive and submit to Islam’s will for us.
While President Bush did condemn the riots, he also condemned the media and suggested they have a responsibility to be thoughtful and considerate. In other words their
freedom of speech comes with limits, and those limits are set by people who threaten to kill you every time they are offended.
Lebanon
formed a committee to monitor all “hostile campaigns” against Islam.
Singapore won’t allow the publication of things that might offend Muslims. Singapore’s prime minister believes “racial harmony is a higher priority than freedom of expression”. How many more freedoms will be given up in the name of racial harmony?
Mark my words. The internet will be next. When riots begin over websites that have offended the Muslims of the world, the filtering and censorship of the internet will begin. Now that the Islamists know rioting works, they can bring Shariah to all of us riot by riot.

Border drug smugglers threaten deputy’s family

Friday, February 10th, 2006

And further to the previous post…

Likely drug gangsters have threatened the families of county sheriff’s deputies in Texas who thwarted two recent smuggling operations at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The San Antonio Express-News quotes Hudspeth County Chief Deputy Mike Doyal as saying three men inside a black and red Ford Bronco approached the wife of one of the deputies last Thursday and made a threat before driving across the Rio Grande into Mexico.
As WorldNetDaily reported, in the last several days, there have been two incursions into the U.S. about 50 miles east of El Paso, Texas, by armed men thought to be Mexican troops. The incident on Jan. 23 involved Mexican military Humvees towing what appeared to be thousands of pounds of marijuana across the Rio Grande. Thirty American agents were part of that standoff, including the sheriff’s deputies.
Speaking of last Thursday’s threat to a deputy’s wife, Doyal said, “They told her that her husband and the other officers needed to stay off the river down there.”
On Friday, a Hudspeth deputy in the Fort Hancock area received information a cartel was talking about putting together a “death squad” to target the deputies, Doyal told the Express-News.
According to the report, the three deputies who were targeted were the same who witnessed the failed Jan. 23 incursion. On that day, Border Patrol agents called for backup after seeing that apparent Mexican army troops had several mounted machine guns on the ground more than 200 yards inside the U.S. border.
A Cadillac Escalade reportedly stolen from El Paso was captured, and U.S. officers found 1,477 pounds of marijuana inside. The Mexican soldiers set fire to one of the Humvees stuck in the river.
Though Hudspeth County Sheriff Arvin West offered to relocate the threatened deputies, they didn’t accept his offer.
“Each one of them stated that they were going to stand their ground. They weren’t going to be run out,” Doyal is quoted as saying.
After the Jan. 23 incursion, Doyal commented: “Our government has to do something. It’s not the immigrants coming over for jobs we’re worried about. It’s the smugglers, Mexican military and the national threat to our borders that we’re worried about.”
The Mexican government has denied that its troops are involved in protecting or assisting drug smugglers at the border.

Feds Must Secure Border from Those ‘Who Want to Kill Us’

Friday, February 10th, 2006

I’m still calling for complete security at the boarders, especially the southern one. “Homeland Security” is a joke as long as the border is unsecure.

(CNSNews.com) – The federal government must address illegal immigration and border security or risk the wrath of voters in upcoming elections, congressional Republicans told attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., Thursday.
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said the consequences of ignoring porous U.S. borders cannot be ignored.
“The federal government simply needs to obtain operational security of our federal border by supplying the people and the technology necessary so that we know who is coming into our country and why they are here,” Cornyn said. “We know that the vulnerability that our border has had for all these years can easily be exploited, not just by those who want to enter our country in circumvention of our laws, but [also] by people … who want to literally kill us.”
U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Ariz.) told Cybercast News Service that the initial steps to ending illegal immigration include enforcing existing laws and closing loopholes exploited by illegal aliens and the employers who hire them.

“For all the critics who say, ‘Enforcement doesn’t work,’ my simple question is, ‘How would we know?’ We’ve never even tried it,” Hayworth argued. “Let’s enforce existing law, close the loopholes that have people gaming our system right now, be willing to put our military on the border, [and] be willing to use the great technology we have to bring it to bear, have adequate interior enforcement and, basically, like my book [title] says, ‘Whatever It Takes.'”
Cornyn lamented the alleged incursions into the U.S. by Mexican military units accused of providing protection for drug smugglers. He said federal authorities and local law enforcers must work together to deal with such problems.
“We also need to enlist the help of local and state law enforcement and work with them as partners,” Cornyn added, “so that they can assist the federal government in what is primarily a federal responsibility, but one in which they are and must be and are necessary partners.”
Open border advocates have criticized the construction of fences along the southern U.S. border, but Cornyn said he supports the use of such barriers.
“What I favor is what I would call a ‘virtual wall,’ Cornyn explained. “Strategic use of barriers, but also adding, actually doubling the number of federal agents along the border — Border Patrol — and using the technology that we use now in Afghanistan and Iraq, like sensors, to detect intrusions and unmanned aerial vehicles to survey the border region so that the Border Patrol, given adequate boots on the ground and given the technology, can identify people coming into our country illegally and make sure that our borders are protected.”
