Australia Takes a Stand Against Muslim Extremists

Monday, August 28th, 2006

It looks like America could take a lesson from the people of Australia. They have taken a hard stance against Muslim extremists. Muslims have been told that the laws of Australia are to be obeyed, not the laws of Islam. So basically, if you dont like our law then leave. It makes perfect sense to me, now if we can only get our lawmakers to agree.

A man whose terror-related conviction was quashed on appeal has been ordered to be on curfew and tell police where he is, in the first anti-terror control order issued by Australian authorities determined to take a hard line and prevent a terrorist attack.

The report by Reuters confirms the nation’s no-tolerance stance toward any terror-related activities is much harsher than that of the United States.

The report said Joseph Terrence Thomas is subject to a midnight to 5 a.m. curfew even though an appeals court ruling on Aug. 18 concluded an interview he had with Australian police in Pakistan was inadmissible in the case because he had no lawyer’s advice and it wasn’t voluntary.

Australia’s leadership long has held the position that if it’s terror-related, it’s not welcome in their nation.

Anarchy in Gaza

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Since Israel gave up their land in Gaza, there has been nothing but unrest and anarchy. Even leaders of Hamas-run Palestinian Authority admit that there is uncontrollable unrest What else could be expected? There will never be rest in Gaza again until the land is returned to its rightful owner.

“When you walk in the streets of Gaza City, you cannot but close your eyes because of what you see there: unimaginable chaos, careless policemen, young men carrying guns and strutting with pride and families receiving condolences for their dead in the middle of the street.”

This is how Ghazi Hamad, spokesman for the Hamas-controlled Palestinian Authority government and a former newspaper editor, described the situation in the Gaza Strip in an article he published on Sunday on some Palestinian news Web sites.

The article, the first of its kind by a senior Hamas official, also questioned the effectiveness of the Kassam rocket attacks and noted that since Israel evacuated the Gaza Strip, the situation there has deteriorated on all levels. It holds the armed groups responsible for the crisis and calls on them to reconsider their tactics and to stop blaming Israel for their mistakes.

“Gaza is suffering under the yoke of anarchy and the swords of thugs,” Hamad wrote. “I remember the day when Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip and closed the gates behind. Then, Palestinians across the political spectrum took to the streets to celebrate what many of us regarded as the Israeli defeat or retreat. We heard a lot about a promising future in the Gaza Strip and about turning the area into a trade and industrial zone.”

TBN Cancels Another “Anti-Islam” Show

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Obviously the folks at TBN haven’t gotten the memo yet. So, here it is: Islam is not a religion of peace. The Muslim world wants all Christians and Jews dead. So, why is it such a terrible thing when people like Hal Lindsey and the late Zola Levitt speak the truth?

“Zola Levitt Presents,” a long-running, issue-oriented weekly TV program often critical of the jihadist ideology within Islam, has been canceled by the Trinity Broadcasting Network, producers says, because of efforts by TBN to cater to its growing audience in the Arab world.

Though spokesmen for TBN were unavailable over the weekend for comment, the cancellation, effective today, would make it the second long-time program scrubbed by the largest Christian broadcaster because of sensitivities about Muslim content.

In January of this year, Hal Lindsey’s “The International Intelligence Briefing,” notified TBN he would not be back because of what he considered to be efforts to muzzle his opinions about radical Islam.

Lindsey, author of “The Late Great Planet Earth” and considered to be the biggest selling author alive today and a weekly columnist for WND, had anchored the program for the last 12 years on the world’s largest Christian network.

Israel and Lebanon Welcome EU Sending Troops

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Well, here is one thing Israel and Lebanon agree on: the dispatching of EU troops to their countries. The EU has pledged to contribute 7,000 troops in an effort to keep peace between the two nations. I have a feeling that no amount of troops will keep Hezbollah from doing what they do best – terrorizing the people of Israel.

Israel and Lebanon both welcomed an European Union (EU) pledge to contribute up to 7,000 troops to a beefed-up UN peacekeeping mission capable of enforcing the fragile truce with Shiite militants of Hezbollah.

“Israel congratulates European countries on their decision to send these contingents for the international force in Lebanon,” foreign ministry spokesman Mark Regev said following Friday’s decision by the 25-nation bloc.

“This decision will greatly contribute to the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701,” he said, with the EU now supplying more than half the extra soldiers needed to bring the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) up to its mandated 15,000 from its current count of 2,000.

FDA Eases Limits on Morning After Pill

Friday, August 25th, 2006

The FDA has made the Morning After pill available over the counter to women age 18 and older. Pro-Life groups are crying foul, saying that there is no way to effectively enforce the age restrictions. This is a license for women to have premarital or extramarital sex without worrying about pregnancy. I predict the repercussions of this pill will be immeasurable. I forsee the rate of STD’s rising considerably, because, let’s face it, young women worry more about pregnancy than gonorrhea. I can also see the number of teens having sex rising tremendously. Peer pressure is a dangerous thing and when you take the threat of pregnancy out of the equation, sex will become even more prevalent among teens. The OTC approval of this pill is a great thing for child molesters as well. Now they can molest young girls without fear of them getting pregnant.
I feel that the OTC approval of this pill is just the first step down a steep slope to making abortion (even late-term abortion) commonplace. The liberals will not stop until they make sure that there is no sanctity to any human’s life. The FDA has made a grave error in approving Plan B and I pray that they rethink the decision before too many people are hurt.

AgapePress) – The FDA has taken what pro-life groups consider an ill-advised step by approving Plan B — also referred to as the “morning-after” pill — for over-the-counter access for women 18 and older. At least one of those groups contends the federal agency has overstepped its authority in the decision, and that the non-prescription availability of the emergency contraception will have a “detrimental effect” on women and parents.

Plan B, manufactured by Barr Pharmaceuticals, contains the same ingredient used in prescription birth-control pills, only in higher dosage. Today’s decision by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration makes the drug available without prescription to women over the age of 18; it remains available as a prescription-only product for women 17 and younger. Those opposed to the change have pointed out that the FDA has no authority to enforce the age restriction, and that Barr has no intention to do so. Perhaps in response to that criticism, Barr has stated it will implement a “rigorous labeling, packaging, education, distribution, and monitoring program” for Plan B.

‘Ahmadinejad Would Sacrifice Half Of Iran To Wipe Out Israel’

Friday, August 25th, 2006

More anti Israel rants from the mad leader of Iran. You remember Mahmoud “the Zionist Entity (Israel) shold be wiped off the mad” Ahmadinejad, don’t ya? You know, the mad leader of Iran, whom the world is handing nukes to on a silver platter? The one who sees it as his duty to start World War 3? Does anyone else in the world have a problem with any of this, or is it just me?

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, if he ever became the supreme decision maker in his country, would “sacrifice half of Iran for the sake of eliminating Israel,” Giora Eiland, Israel’s former national security adviser, told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday.
At present, Eiland stressed, the ultimate decision maker in Iran was Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 67, whom he said was “more reasonable.” But, Eiland went on, “if Ahmadinejad were to succeed him – and he has a reasonable chance of doing so – then we’d be in a highly dangerous situation.”
The 49-year-old Iranian president, he said, “has a religious conviction that Israel’s demise is essential to the restoration of Muslim glory, that the Zionist thorn in the heart of the Islamic nations must be removed. And he will pay almost any price to right the perceived historic wrong. If he becomes the supreme leader and has a nuclear capability, that’s a real threat.”
In facing up to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Eiland said the United States had three possible courses of action, “all of them bad,” and that a decision could not be postponed for too long, “since delay, too, is a decision of sorts.”

The persecution of Lina Joy

Friday, August 25th, 2006

We in the U.S. hardly have a true idea of what is like to truly be persecuted for being a Christian. Several months ago, an Afghan man, Abdul Rahman, was under a death sentence for converting from Islam to Christianity (see my previous posts about that situation here).

Now in Malaysia, a young woman, Lina Joy, is in court in order to get permission to marry a Malaysian Christian man.
What is most disturbing about this situation is that she has had to go into hiding because of the death threats against her and her lawyer as well as this comment from the Malaysian Prime Minister:

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) – Malaysia’s prime minister urged the country’s states on Monday to enforce laws that bar the preaching of other faiths to Muslims, or to frame such laws if they did not have them already.
“Why are they still not doing it?” state news agency Bernama quoted Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, an Islamic scholar, as saying. “To those states that have not (legislated such laws), they should consider. Take whatever actions are needed.”
Islam, which is followed by some 60 percent of a population of about 26 million, is Malaysia’s official state religion, although the constitution provides for limited religious freedom.
The constitution also defines Malays, who number more than half the population, as Muslim.
Among Malaysia’s other races are ethnic Chinese and ethnic Indians, who practise such beliefs as Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, Confucianism, Taoism and other Chinese religions.
Proselytising to Muslims, while not illegal under federal law, is outlawed in most Malaysian states.

So once again, we see a complete lack of tolerance from the religion (Islam) that professes to be the poster child of tolerance.

Michelle Malkin says it well on her blog:

An Islamic scholar explains why Muslims must not be allowed to leave:
“If Islam were to grant permission for Muslims to change religion at will, it would imply it has no dignity, no self-esteem,” said Wan Azhar Wan Ahmad, senior fellow at Malaysia’s Institute of Islamic Understanding.
“And people may then question its completeness, truthfulness and perfection.”
Got that? It’s a Religion of Peace for those who submit, and a Religion of Pieces for those who even dare think of leaving.
Yoo-hoo, American feminists. Have you nothing to say about this case? Perhaps if Lina Joy were clamoring for the right to marry an atheist woman instead of a Christian man, you’d be all over it, huh?

Good question, Michelle. I’m guessing we will only hear silence from these so-called Feminists “Advocates”.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Aug. 19 — From the scant personal details that can be pieced together about Lina Joy, she converted from Islam to Christianity eight years ago and since then has endured extraordinary hurdles in her desire to marry the man in her life.
Her name is a household word in this majority Muslim country. But she is now in hiding after death threats from Islamic extremists, who accuse her of being an apostate.
Five years ago she started proceedings in the civil courts to seek the right to marry her Christian fiancé and have children. Because she had renounced her Muslim faith, Ms. Joy, 42, argued, Malaysia’s Islamic Shariah courts, which control such matters as marriage, property and divorce, did not have jurisdiction over her.
In a series of decisions, the civil courts ruled against her. Then, last month, her lawyer, Benjamin Dawson, appeared before Malaysia’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, to argue that Ms. Joy’s conversion be considered a right protected under the Constitution, not a religious matter for the Shariah courts.
“She’s trying to live her life with someone she loves,” Mr. Dawson said in an interview.
Threats against Ms. Joy had become so insistent, and the passions over her conversion so inflamed, he had concluded there was no room for her and her fiancé in Malaysia. The most likely solution, he said, was for her to emigrate.
For Malaysia, which considers itself a moderate and modern Muslim country with a tolerance for its multiple religions and ethnic groups of Malays, Indians and Chinese, the case has kicked up a firestorm that goes to the very heart of who is a Malay, and what is Malaysia.
Her case has heightened a searing battle that has included street protests and death threats between groups advocating a secular interpretation of the Constitution, and Islamic groups that contend the Shariah courts should have supremacy in many matters.
Some see the rulings against Ms. Joy as a sign of increasing Islamization, and of the pressures felt by the government of Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi as it tries to respond to the opposition Islamic party, Parti Islam Semalaysia.
About 60 percent of Malaysia’s 26 million people are Muslim, 20 percent are Buddhist, nearly 10 percent are Christian and 6 percent Hindu.
Malaysia has powerful Islamic Affairs Departments in its 13 states and in the capital district around Kuala Lumpur. The departments, a kind of parallel bureaucracy to the state apparatus that were strengthened during the 22-year rule of former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, run the Shariah courts.
“Malaysia is at a crossroads,” Mr. Dawson said. “Do we go down the Islamic road, or do we maintain the secular character of the federal constitution that has been eroding in the last 10 years?”
In rulings in her case, civil courts said Malays could not renounce Islam because the Constitution defined Malays to be Muslims.
They also ruled that a request to change her identity card from Muslim to Christian had to be decided by the Shariah courts. There she would be considered an apostate, and if she did not repent she surely would be sentenced to several years in an Islamic center for rehabilitation.

Many feel threatened by Islam: poll

Friday, August 25th, 2006

To any Muslims who might read this post:
Listen, I know that there are millions of Muslim people who are just trying to make a living, raise their families and just have a normal life.
Don’t you think it’s time to eliminate this radical presence within your midst?
I can assure you, that as a Christian, if I heard of a fellow Christian planning to blow up an abortion clinic (and I do believe that abortion clinics are very evil), you can rest assured that I would be calling the authorities so quickly that my phone would smoke.
Therefore, I call on all Muslims, everywhere, to do what is right, and turn these terrorist in to the authorities. Stop them before they make your so called “religion of peace” more radical.
If you fail to do so, then I must believe that you are one with them in ideals. It now makes you a radical Muslim. It now makes you part of the problem.

Most people in the UK feel threatened by Islam, a poll has revealed, after the Government launched a bid to tackle inter-faith tensions.
The YouGov survey for the Daily Telegraph found 53% were concerned about the impact of the religion – not just fundamentalist elements – up 21% from 2001.
There had also been a near doubling of the number agreeing that “a large proportion of British Muslims feel no sense of loyalty to this country and are prepared to condone or even carry out acts of terrorism”.
A total of 18% backed the statement – compared with just one in 10 in the wake of the terrorist bombings in London last July.
And there was a seven point slump – to 16% – in those believing “practically all British Muslims are peaceful, law-abiding citizens who deplore terrorist acts as much as anyone else”.

“Mass murder attacks by Muslim groups using the Koran as justification, successful and otherwise, proliferating almost daily, might tend to produce that result. I’m just sayin’.”

Wal-Mart Forms Alliance With Gay Group

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

Wal-Mart has formed an alliance with a gay group in the name of expanding their customer base. Ford Motor Company has seen a decline in their sales and stock since making a decision to advertise to attract the gay community. I can only hope that Wal-Mart sees the same decline and changes their marketing plan before it is too late. I only wish I had read this article before spending $200 at my local Wal-Mart store this morning.

WASHINGTON – Wal-Mart Stores, the retail giant that grew up in the rural South, is moving to attract gay shoppers as it expands its presence in urban centers.

By entering into a partnership with the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce this week, the company “is making a very sincere effort to reach out to people who are a significant part of our customer base,” Wal-Mart spokesman Bob McAdam said Wednesday.

“I am proud of that effort,” he said.

But Wal-Mart did not issue a news release about the alliance, leaving the chamber to announce it. And as news of the partnership trickles out, a backlash is taking shape among some conservatives.

“I don’t think this is something that will sell on Main Street America, where most Wal-Mart stores are located,” said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, a conservative public policy group in Washington. “I don’t think cheap prices on goods from China will be enough to stop a rollback in their customer base if they choose to go down this aisle.”

Liberals on Path to Extinction

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

I know it sounds like a wonderful dream, but its true that liberals may very well be on the path to extinction. It seems that liberals have less children than conservatives and since children usually end up voting like their parents, liberals are losing ground. Praise the God of heaven and earth. I find it amusing that this is a news story, I thought it was just common sense. Liberals are more concerned with killing babies that raising them. They are more concerned with making the almighty dollar than spending money on children. And how can they support causes such as saving the three-eyed tree frog and the North American Pine Tree if they have to buy diapers? No, it makes perfect sense to me and I think it is just as well. People who vote to kill babies should not be allowed to reproduce themselves.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 24 (UPI) — U.S. liberals face extinction if they don’t start having enough babies to keep up with conservatives, a Syracuse University professor told ABC News.

Professor Arthur Brooks said after studying numbers from the governmental General Social Survey, he found 100 unrelated liberal adults have 147 children, while 100 unrelated conservatives have 208 kids.

Brooks said that makes a difference, as 80 percent of people with political opinions vote like their parents.

In response, conservative pollster Kellyanne Conway told ABC liberals are creating their own fertility gap by their beliefs

ACLU Investigating Trooper Who Apprehends 14 Illegals

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

In case there is someone out there who has not yet figured out the purpose of the ACLU, let me try to help – their sole purpose is to oppose what is right and defend what is wrong. It seems that their newest victim is a Rhode Island State Trooper who was simply doing his job when pulling over a vehicle on a routine traffic stop. It seems that the vehicle was filled with 14 illegal immigrants who had no form of ID. When the trooper found out they had no identification, he called the Department of Homeland Security. Seems like standard operating procedure to me, but the ACLU calls in racial profiling. The man was doing his best to help make our country a safe place to live and now he is being hounded by satan’s favorite organization. Give me a break!

The American Civil Liberties Union is investigating a Rhode Island state trooper who apprehended 14 illegal immigrants during a traffic stop, charging “racial profiling” and insisting the officer had no right to ask for ID.

The Rhode Island affiliate of the ACLU filed the case after the driver and several passengers alleged Trooper Thomas Chabot overstepped his authority during the July 11 traffic stop by taking immigration enforcement into his own hands, the Providence Journal reported.

However, asking for identification during traffic stops is a department procedure, and when the passengers could not provide valid ID, Chabot contacted officials with the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement division.

Report: Iran planning nuclear ‘surprise’

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

Most likely, the World (read that U.N. and member countries) will have moved too slowly and Iran will get nuclear weapons, which I don’t doubt, they will fire toward Israel as soon as possible.

A senior official in Teheran said Wednesday that in the next few days, a “surprise” was expected regarding Iran’s nuclear program, Al-Jazeera reported.
Teheran’s apparent refusal to suspend uranium enrichment set the stage for a showdown at the UN Security Council later this month.
The United States said Wednesday that a proposal by Iran for nuclear negotiations falls short of UN demands for a halt to enrichment, and began plotting “next moves” with other governments.
Diplomats from Europe, the US, Russia and China pored over details of Iran’s counterproposal
Wednesday, a day after Teheran presented it.
Initial comments from Russia and China, however, made clear that the US is likely to face difficulty getting at least those nations to agree to any tough sanctions against Iran.

Ohhh yes, those sanctions will scare them into compliance…NOT!!

Re-Post: “Let the world bring it on” by Stan Goodenough of Jerusalem Watchman

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

Amnesty International (AI) has accused Israel of committing war crimes during the course of its self-defensive war against the Hizb’allah.
So the outed anti-Israel news agency Reuters informed us Wednesday.
Determined to prosecute such a charge while the widespread, media-manufactured outrage against Israel for its actions in Lebanon remains high, the so-called human rights group has called for the United Nations to quickly establish an “independent” inquiry into what it says were Israeli breaches of international humanitarian law.
AI, known for the enduring hostility of its relationship towards Israel, employed its “evenhandedness” approach by saying that “both sides” had broken these laws.
It is a tactic that is as tried and tested as it is transparent.
As much as it wants to be seen as such, and no matter how forcefully Egypt may insist it is – the Hizb’allah is not a legitimate national entity.
It’s a regionally-sponsored Islamo-facist terror machine that has consolidated its reputation and built up its growing following through acts of violence and gangsterism in Allah’s name.
On July 12, this Iranian-equipped and Syrian-facilitated militia perpetrated an act of international piracy by crossing into sovereign Israeli territory to kidnap Israeli soldiers, killing eight IDF men in the process.
And it unapologetically committed crimes against humanity by deliberately aiming at civilian population centers when it rained 4,000 missiles down on Israel between July 12 and August 14.
(An inquiry we can be sure AI will never call for is one into the responsibility of Tehran and Damascus for the outbreak of this war and their contribution to the tragic cost in Israeli and Lebanese civilian lives.)
No matter. What we have learned well during the past decades here in Israel is that the world wants to see Israel as guilty. Nations like France and England, South Africa, Russia and China are quite happy to be deceived into believing that Israeli soldiers and air force pilots, with the blessing of Israeli governments, will deliberately and even gleefully inflict death and destruction on Arab men, women and children.
Let them believe these lies. Let them prosecute Israel for them. Let them even – in their show trials in The Hague or wherever they choose to have them – find Israeli individuals or Israel as a nation guilty as charged.
These journalists and lawmakers, together with the public that believes and supports them, are set in their ways. The truth will make no dent in their bias; it will give no pause to their prejudice, no respite to their anti-Semitism.
This world sees modern-day Israel as:
* Increasingly a mistake at best, illegitimate at worst – created on stolen Arab lands.
* Expansionist – seeking to enlarge its borders by illegal occupation and ultimate annexation of more of those lands.
* Warmongering – ready and eager to make war on its neighboring states and against the Palestinian Arabs.
* Criminal in its warfare – deliberately targeting Arab civilians.
* Human-rights abusing – arbitrarily persecuting Arabs and employing collective punishment against them.
* Racist – abusive and segregationist towards its own Arab citizens (Israeli Arabs).
We know modern-day Israel to be:
* Wholly legitimate – both biblically and historically the rightful owners of all the ancient land of Eretz Israel.
* Excessively accommodating – has proven its readiness to relinquish claim to great chunks of that homeland.
* Sacrificially peace seeking – from the early 1900s repeatedly extending its hand towards the Arabs for peace; since 1967 demonstrably willing to take risks for peace, even at the cost of thousands of Israeli lives.
* Incomparably humanitarian in its warfare – never blitzing, carpet-bombing or in any other way mass-destroying its enemies; warning civilians to vacate areas the IDF needs to strike; placing its own soldiers repeatedly at risk in order to minimize the risk to civilians, the majority of who are fully supportive of and celebrate their countrymen’s attacks on Israeli civilians.
* Self accountable: As a nation repeatedly ready to express sorrow and remorse for the excessive or unlawful actions of individual Israelis; holding courts martial to punish and prevent abuse of Arabs by individual Israeli soldiers, etc.
* Restrained in its actions against terrorists – selectively targeting those it goes after; dealing with individual terrorist’s property when it could lay siege to entire communities; building security walls and fences to stop terrorist acts instead of employing iron fist against entire Arab communities out of which these terrorists come.
* Self-critical to an astonishing degree of any latent prejudices and, through its parliament as well as its courts, seeking to redress imbalances in treatment of the Arab minority – an Arab minority that, even as it perpetually complains, happens to enjoy the highest standard of living in the Arab world, the protection of its civil and human rights, an equal vote and its own parliamentary representatives (most of whom are openly hostile towards Israel), exemption from military service, and many thousands of whom live in luxurious villas and mansions that are to be seen in every one of Israel’s Arab towns.
The world is wrong in its treatment of Israel. It is unfair and it is unjust. But why worry about them? Let them bring it on. All they are doing is storing up judgment against themselves, judgment that will be poured out upon them when the God of Israel deals with all those who hate Zion.
Thank God, He is Israel’s defender. And while He, a holy God, will deal “in measure” with Israel for its many faults and sins, He knows where justice and injustice lie in regard to Israel’s conflict with the Arabs, and the world’s position on this conflict.
The Judge of all the earth is coming soon. “He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with His truth.” (Ps 96:13)

Syria’s new ‘Hezbollah’ group training for attacks

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

Baath party official: Lebanon war proves ‘resistance’ against Israel works

Well, as most of us thought, it’s going to sooner rather than later that Israel’s enemys attack. Why on earth Israel restrained the IDF and listened to the international community, I’ll never know.

JERUSALEM – Following what it views as a Hezbollah victory against the Jewish state, Syria is forming its own Hezbollah-like guerrilla organization to fight Israel in hopes of “liberating” the Golan Heights, according to a report aired yesterday on state-run Iranian television.
Last week, WorldNetDaily broke the story Syria is in the process of forming what an official from Syrian President Bashar Assad’s Baath Party called the Front for the Liberation of the Golan Heights, a new “resistance” group that models itself after Hezbollah.
The official told WND the Front will attempt attacks to force Israel from the Golan Heights, strategic mountainous territory captured by the Jewish state after Syria used the terrain to attack Israel in 1967 and again in 1973. The Heights borders Israel, Syria and Lebanon and is claimed by Damascus.
Al-Alam Iranian television yesterday featured an interview with a man who identified himself as the leader of the new Front for the Liberation of the Golan Heights. The man, whose features were blocked out, said his new group consists of “hundreds” of fighters who are currently training for guerilla-like raids against Israeli positions in and near the Golan. He claimed the Front has opened several training camps inside Syria.
Last week, the Baath party official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told WND Syria learned from Hezbollah’s military campaign against Israel the past month that “fighting” is more effective than peace negotiations with regard to gaining territory. He said Syria’s new guerilla force would be trained by Hezbollah leaders.
“Syria is very serious about establishing this new guerilla force,” the official said.

Conflict of Interest in NSA/Surveillance Ruling?

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

This caught my eye yesterday, but I didn’t have time to post it.

( – The federal judge who ruled the Bush administration’s terrorist surveillance program unconstitutional may have a conflict of interest.
Judicial Watch, a government watchdog group, says Judge Anna Diggs Taylor, a Jimmy Carter appointee, serves as a secretary and trustee for a foundation that donated funds to the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan.
Judge Taylor sided with the ACLU of Michigan in her recent decision.
Judicial Watch says it discovered the potential conflict of interest after reviewing Judge Diggs Taylor’s financial disclosure statements.
According to her 2003 and 2004 financial disclosure statements, Judge Taylor served as secretary and trustee for the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan (CFSEM) and was reelected to the position in June 2005. The official CFSEM website says the foundation made a “recent grant” of $45,000 to the ACLU of Michigan, a plaintiff in the wiretapping case.
According to the CFSEM website, “The Foundation’s trustees make all funding decisions at meetings held on a quarterly basis.”
“This potential conflict of interest merits serious investigation,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “If Judge Diggs Taylor failed to disclose this link to a plaintiff in a case before her court, it would certainly call into question her judgment.”
The lawsuit, filed in Detroit by the American Civil Liberties Union, alleged that President Bush exceeded his executive authority in ordering the NSA to monitor international phone calls and e-mails — only those to or from the United States involving people with known or suspected links to terrorists.

New Stem-Cell Procedure Doesn’t Harm Embryos, Company Claims

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

Well Good!! Then there’s no more reasons to keep the infanticide factories (abortion clinics) open any more.

NEW YORK — A biotechnology company has developed a new way of creating stem cells without destroying human embryos, billing it as a potential solution to a contentious political and ethical debate.
“This will make it far more difficult to oppose this research,” said Robert Lanza of Advanced Cell Technology, the Alameda, Calif., company that reported the new method.
Stem cell researchers were impressed by the new technique’s ability to produce two robust lines of stem cells without requiring the destruction of embryos, and a White House spokeswoman called it encouraging.

Marines to Issue Involuntary Call-Ups

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

We need to pray continually for our military men and their families.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Marine Corps said Tuesday it has been authorized to recall thousands of Marines to active duty, primarily because of a shortage of volunteers for duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Up to 2,500 Marines will be brought back at any one time, but there is no cap on the total number of Marines who may be forced back into service in the coming years as the military battles the war on terror. The call-ups will begin in the next several months.

This is the first time the Marines have had to use the involuntary recall since the early days of the Iraq combat. The Army has ordered back about 14,000 soldiers since the start of the war.

Iran Will Be Asked to Suspend Uranium Enrichment While Talks Occur

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

World powers are going to ask Iran to cease uranium enrichment while responding to the request for talks concerning nukes. Considering the fact that the president of Iran has been outspoken about uranium enrichment and his plans to continue, the outcome of the request should be interesting to say the least. My bet is that Iran says “No Deal” to stopping enrichment.

World powers are ready to respond to Iran’s call for talks over its nuclear ambitions but only if it first suspends uranium enrichment, France said on Wednesday.

Iran handed over its response to an incentives package offered by six nations on Tuesday, saying it offered ideas that would allow serious talks to start immediately.

The West has in the past said such calls for talks were a stalling tactic.

“As we have always said … a return to the negotiating table is tied to the suspension of uranium enrichment,” French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy told a news conference.

There has been no sign Tehran agrees to this precondition, which it has previously dismissed as unacceptable.

UN Allows Use of Force in Lebanon

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

Well, isnt it sweet that the UN has given permission for the peacekeepers to defend themselves and innocent civilians in Lebanon. Did they expect these peacekeepers to just stand by and be killed by Hezbollah? The UN is a joke.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – New rules of engagement for U.N. troops in Lebanon permit soldiers to shoot in self-defense, use force to protect civilians and resist armed attempts to interfere with their duties, a U.N. document says.

The 21 pages of rules, obtained by Reuters on Tuesday, adhere to the mandate laid down by the U.N. Security Council in an August 11 resolution and drafted by France and the United States. That did not call on the U.N. force, known as UNIFIL, to carry out large-scale disarmament of Hizbollah guerrillas in a southern Lebanon buffer zone.

The rules, given to potential troop contributors last week for approval, have been generally accepted, said Vijay Nambiar, a special adviser to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
