Soldiers from Iran killed in Lebanon

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

This should not surprise anyone.

TEL AVIV – Iranian soldiers were found among the bodies of Hezbollah gunmen killed by Israel during the past few days of the Jewish state’s military campaign in Lebanon, a senior Israeli military official told WorldNetDaily.
The official, who did not release the number of Iranian bodies found, said Israel has killed dozens of Hezbollah fighters since Monday and about 480 since the fighting began July 12 following a Hezbollah attack against a military patrol unit and the kidnapping of two soldiers. He said Israeli intelligence has so far identified about 200 of the dead Hezbollah gunmen.
The information follows scores of reports the past few weeks that Iranian soldiers have been aiding Hezbollah terrorists from Lebanon in their attacks against Israel, including help with the firing of rockets into Israeli population centers.
It also comes after WND broke the story about the bodies of Iranian Revolutionary Guard soldiers who were killed by the Israeli army in Lebanon and transported to Syria, then flown to Tehran, according to senior Lebanese political sources.
The Lebanese sources said between six and nine deceased Iranian Revolutionary Guard soldiers were brought in trucks last month into Syria for flight back to Iran. They said the bodies were transported at the same time tens of thousands of Lebanese civilians were fleeing the country into Syria.
WND previously reported Israeli security officials said they have “concrete information” hundreds of Iranian soldiers stationed at Hezbollah positions in Lebanon have helped to fire missiles into the Jewish state.
The Israeli officials said Iranian guards directed the firing last month of a radar-guided C–802 missile that hit an Israeli navy vessel off the coast of Lebanon, killing four soldiers. Israel says Iran acquired the missile from China.
The officials said the Iranian soldiers’ duties include keeping custody of long-range missiles within Hezbollah’s arsenal, including Zalzal rockets which are said to have a range of 125 miles, placing Tel Aviv within firing range.
Jordanian officials told WND they are “100 percent sure” Iranian Revolutionary Guard unit soldiers have fired rockets into Israel. They also said the Syrian army has provided Hezbollah with intelligence information on the locations of strategic Israeli targets to aid in Hezbollah rocket fire.
A Ba’ath party official operating out of the Golan Heights told WND he has information Iranian soldiers have been firing rockets into Israel.
Israel has long maintained Iranian Revolutionary Guard units have traveled regularly to south Lebanon to help train local Hezbollah fighters in terrorist tactics and to fortify Hezbollah positions along Israel’s northern border.
At times, Revolutionary Guard soldiers could be seen operating openly at Hezbollah outposts in plain view from the Israeli side, military officials say.
Iran and Syria are the largest financial sponsors of Hezbollah. Israel says many Hezbollah rockets were made in or upgraded by Iran.
Earlier, Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said Israel has information Hezbollah was trying to transfer the two soldiers it kidnapped to Iran.
Hezbollah has fired over 1,000 rockets into northern Israeli towns the past two weeks. Dozens of rockets have slammed into Haifa, Israel’s third largest city. Fifteen Israelis have been killed in the attacks, which have prompted over two million citizens – about one-third of the Jewish state – to live under the threat of rockets.

Israel enhancing nuke-capable submarines

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Since Israel knows better then to depend on anyone but themselves for their defense (as demonstrated by the current war to rid their border of terrorist), they are making sure their submarines are ready to go with nuclear strike capabilities, just in case the mad leader of Iran makes it necessary.
See my previous post about these submarines here.

HAIFA, Israel – German engineers the past few weeks have been in Israel working to improve three advanced, nuclear capable attack submarines it provided the Jewish state last year, security sources tell the Galil Report.
Many here have estimated the vessels can be used both as a strategic, second-strike nuclear deterrent or for conventional use during any large-scale confrontation.
Military officials say the submarines are not needed for Israel’s current campaign in Lebanon. The officials said Israel recently has discussed with foreign governments travel and refueling routes so the submarines can reach the Persian Gulf – within firing distance of Iran.
The submarines usually patrol in the Indian Ocean. But the Galil Report has learned one is currently stationed in the Mediterranean off the coast of Haifa and another off the coast of Lebanon. Both submarines are being serviced. The Galil Report was not provided with the location of the third submarine.
The submarines are being fitted by German engineers with larger fuel tanks, security sources said. They said the submarines also are being fixed to carry larger torpedo tubes. Israel already had the submarines redesigned once in the past. Four of the 10 torpedo tubes were made to carry a 650 mm tube size, surpassing the nearly universal 533 mm diameter. Security sources said the submarine enhancements were not related to any specific military agenda. But they said Israel has discussed travel routes with foreign governments for the submarines to reach the Persian Gulf, within firing distance of Iran.
They said Egypt has denied Israel the ability to travel through the Suez Canal, but the Jewish state through diplomatic channels has secured the ability to travel to the Gulf via the Mediterranean. Coastal Eritrea had agreed to allow Israel to refuel at its port, which is still controlled by the Ethiopian army, sources told the Galil Report. Still, Israel is playing it safe by having the submarines’ fuel capacity enlarged.
Today’s Galil Report details the upgrades being made to Israel’s already enhanced SSK Dolphin-class submarines and outlines diplomatic negotiations to ensure the vessels can travel toward the direction of the Iranian coast.

Muslim Countries Want Peacekeepers, But Can They be Neutral?

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Can Muslim Peacekeepers (a contradiction in terms) be unbiased?
Let’s see here…
Support Israel who you are sworn to annihilate with complete genocide of their people, or support the Hezbollah, the group you see as heroes for killing lots of innocent Israeli women and children…
Hummm….Neutral, unbiased Muslim Peacekeepers? Yeah Right! Maybe when pigs grown wings and fly.

(CNSNews.com) – Two leading Muslim nations are preparing to contribute troops to an international peacekeeping force in Lebanon, but one of the two is doing nothing to stop local Islamists who want to travel to Lebanon to fight against Israel, and the foreign minister of the other has not ruled out sending weapons to Hizballah.
The two Southeast Asian countries, Indonesia and Malaysia, also have made it clear they hold Israel responsible for the crisis.

-snip-

Irrespective of whatever mandate and timing is eventually decided, any international mission will be expected to play a neutral role in keeping peace between Israel and Hizballah.
Whether Indonesia and Malaysia are able to do so remains to be seen, but neither government — nor the majority of others represented in the OIC — have voiced public criticism for Hizballah for triggering the conflict, while directing a barrage of condemnation at Israel.
In Indonesia, Muslim radicals have publicly announced their intention to travel to Lebanon to join the jihad against Israel. Several small Islamist groups have openly set up recruitment stations for would-be fighters to sign up, and masked, black-clad men have taken part in televised displays of marching and martial arts.
Some have threatened to carry out suicide bombing attacks in support of the jihad, against American, British and Australian targets, with one group saying some 200 volunteers had already left.

Wrong Qana Death Toll Still Being Reported

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

More info on more “Irregularities” from the so called “Qana Massacre”.

(CNSNews.com) – A full week since the death toll in the Israeli air strike on the Lebanese town of Qana was revised — reduced by one-half — a number of news organizations are still reporting the original, inaccurate figure as fact.
Most glaring is the case of Reuters, whose “chronology” of the conflict was updated on July 30 to include the entry: “Lebanon says at least 54 civilians killed by air strike in the village of Qana. Lebanon cancels Rice visit.” Reuters has sent out updated versions of the chronology at least seven times since then, but not one makes any reference to the subsequently revised death toll.
Early reports based on figures provided by Lebanese government officials said between 54 and 57 civilians, many of them children, were killed in the attack. In a statement to the Security Council that same day, U.N. secretary-general Kofi Annan said “preliminary reports say that at least 54 people have been killed, among them at least 37 children.”
Three days later — on Wednesday, August 3, the non-governmental organization Human Rights Watch issued a statement saying 28 people had been killed, based on figures provided by the Lebanese Red Cross and a government hospital in Tyre.
But the inaccurate figure of 54 or more continues to appear in news reports, with no reference to the later revision.

London Police Disrupt Terrorist Plot to Blow Up Aircraft in Mid-Flight

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

And if you have not yet heard what the slimy terrorist were trying to do, yes, once again the religion of peace was trying to kill infidels (everyone who isn’t a slimy terrorist) in the worse possible ways. Hats off to the Brits, who stopped them before they could carry out their plans.

LONDON — British authorities said Thursday they had disrupted a terrorist plot to simultaneously blow up several aircraft heading to the United States using explosives smuggled in hand luggage, averting what police described as “mass murder on an unimaginable scale.”
Officials raised security to its highest level in Britain — suggesting a terrorist attack might be imminent — and banned carry-on luggage on all trans-Atlantic flights. Huge crowds formed at security barriers at London’s Heathrow airport as officials searching for explosives barred nearly every form of liquid outside of baby formula.
The United States also raised its terror threat level to severe, or red, on inbound planes from the United Kingom amid fears the plot had not been completely crushed. Stricter security rules were imposed at aiports, banning all liquids and advising people to “declutter” their carry on bags. The alert for all flights coming or going from the United States was also raised slightly. (Full story)
The extreme measures at a major international aviation hub sent ripple effects throughout the world. Heathrow was closed to most flights from Europe, and British Airways canceled all its flights Thursday between the airport and points in Britain, Europe and Libya. (Full story)
Two U.S. counterterrorism officials said the terrorists had targeted United Airlines, American Airlines and Continental Airlines. They spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.
A U.S. intelligence official said the plotters had hoped to target flights to major airports in New York, Washington and California, all major summer tourist destinations.
Britain’s Home Secretary John Reid said 21 people had been arrested in London, its suburbs and in Birmingham following a lengthy investigation, including the alleged “main players” in the plot. Searches continued in a number of locations.
The suspects were “homegrown,” though it was not immediately clear if they were all British citizens, said a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case. Police were working closely with the South Asian community, the official said.
The official said the plotters intended to simultaneously target multiple planes bound for the United States.
“We think this was an extraordinarily serious plot and we are confident that we’ve prevented and attempt to committee mass murder on an unimaginable scale,” Deputy Commissioner Paul Stephenson said.
Prime Minister Tony Blair, vacationing in the Caribbean, briefed President Bush on the situation overnight, Blair’s office said. There was no immediate public reaction from the White House. Bush is spending a few days at his ranch near Crawford, Texas.
It is the first time the red alert level in the Homeland Security warning system has been invoked, although there have been brief periods in the past when the orange level was applied. Homeland Security defines the red alert as designating a “severe risk of terrorist attacks.”
“We believe that these arrests (in London) have significantly disrupted the threat, but we cannot be sure that the threat has been entirely eliminated or the plot completely thwarted,” said U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. (Full story)
Chertoff added, however, there was no indication of current plots within the U.S. Numerous flights from U.S. cities to Britain were canceled Thursday morning.
He said the operation was “suggestive of an Al Qaeda plot.”
A senior U.S. counterterrorism official said authorities believe dozens of people — possibly as many as 50 — were involved in the plot. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
The plan involved airline passengers hiding masked explosives in carry-on luggage, the official said. “They were not yet sitting on an airplane,” but were very close to traveling, the official said, calling the plot “the real deal.”
Passengers in Britain faced delays as tighter security was hastily enforced at the country’s airports and additional measures were put in place for all flights. Laptop computers, mobile phones, iPods, and remote controls were among the items banned from being carried on board.
Liquids, such as hair care products, were also barred on flights in both Britain and the U.S., raising the possibility that authorities were searching for a liquid explosive.
In the mid-1990s, officials foiled a plan by terrorist mastermind Ramzi Youssef to blow up 12 Western jetliners simultaneously over the Pacific. The alleged plot involved improvised bombs using liquid hidden in contact lens solution containers,
Huge lines formed at ticket counters and behind security barriers at Heathrow and other airports in Britain. Ed Lappen, 55, a businessman from Boston, who was traveling with his wife and daughter to Russia, found himself unable to travel further.
“We’re safe, we’re OK,” he said at Heathrow. “Now my daughter is going to get a shopping trip in London.”
Hannah Pillinger, 24, seemed less concerned by the announcement. “Eight hours without an iPod, that’s the most inconvenient thing,” she said, waiting at the Manchester airport.
Most European carriers canceled flights to Heathrow because of the massive delays created after authorities enforced strict new regulations banning most hand baggage.
Heathrow’s block on incoming traffic applied to flights of three hours or less, affecting most of the incoming traffic from Europe, an airport spokesman said on condition of anonymity in line with airport policy.
Officials at Frankfurt’s airport, Europe’s second-busiest, Schiphol in Amsterdam and Charles De Gaulle in Paris said Heathrow-bound planes could instead land at their airports if they needed to.
London’s Heathrow airport was the departure point for a devastating terrorist attack on a Pan Am airplane on Dec. 21, 1988. The blast over Lockerbie, Scotland, killed all 259 people aboard Pan Am Flight 103 and 11 people on the ground.
The explosive was hidden in a portable radio which was hidden in checked baggage.

The Presence of God in “World Trade Center” (Movie Review)

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Analysis by Dr. Marc T. Newman
MovieMinistry.com
August 9, 2006

(AgapePress) – When Steven Spielberg remade War of the Worlds, my biggest complaint was that, amid all of this mayhem, the audience never once sees Ray Ferrier, the frantic father, pray. Unlike the 1953 original, in which everyone across the country was huddled in churches petitioning God for deliverance from the Martian spacecrafts, by 2005, I guess, no one had an inclination to call out to the Almighty as heat rays were vaporizing everything in sight. I just didn’t buy it. But where family-friendly Spielberg, who made The Prince of Egypt, could not find a place for God in his remake, in steps Oliver Stone — an equally accomplished, if often subversive, filmmaker — and surprises everyone. His God-infused World Trade Center is the most spiritually honest film of the year. Stone uncovers every Christian aspect of this true story and gives it full voice. The results linger long after the lights come up.
World Trade Center (opening today, August 9, in U.S. theaters) tells the real-life story of Sergeant John McLoughlin and Officer Will Jimeno, both from the Port Authority Police Department in New York City. Answering the call on September 11, 2001, men from the Port Authority rushed to the scene. But nothing could have prepared them for this nightmare scenario in broad daylight. The twin towers of the World Trade Center were blazing, people threw themselves to their deaths from the upper floors to escape immolation, and more were trapped inside trying to find a way out. Five brave volunteers from the Port Authority stepped forward to do what they vowed — to protect and serve. They entered the tower to get others out and found themselves in the middle of the most horrific building collapse in history. After helping others to freedom, three of the five died, and McLoughlin and Jimeno were trapped. And deep in the twisted rubble they did what most people would do: they talked, they pored over their lives, and they prayed. From prayer comes comfort, and, out in the world, sacrificial action; action that moves from death to life.

A Prayer in the Darkness
When people pray, things happen. As Jimeno and McLoughlin lay trapped beneath crushing debris, barely able to move, each calls out to God. Jimeno first begins to pray, but is distracted as explosions rip through the other buildings that continue to fall about them. McLoughlin, pinned down as the deafening roar of new debris threatens to extinguish what little hope he has, screams The Lord’s Prayer. Imminent death has a way of removing pretense and revealing the heart. Viewers who have come to see The Lord’s Prayer as a rote exercise will not think so again — ever.
Certainly others prayed on 9/11, and perished nonetheless. We cannot know how God dealt with each one of their souls. Was God speaking to them, comforting them in their final moment? We have no way to know. There are secrets that belong only to God. But Stone does not shrink from the spiritual experiences of these two men who lived. And theirs is a story of a God who answers prayer, comes to them in their need, and calls others to their aid.
Rated PG-13 for intense and emotional content, some disturbing images and language

Religious Vision
As McLoughlin and Jimeno lie entombed, Jimeno is given a vision. But rather than another one of those impersonal long white tunnels that the nearly departed swear come for them, Jimeno sees something else; or rather, Someone. Looking down upon him, Jimeno sees the image of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. He is not calling Jimeno to heaven. Jimeno says, “I saw Jesus and he held a bottle of water. He’s telling us something, Sarge. He’s telling us to come home.” It is this hope of making it out alive that gives Jimeno the strength to keep tapping on a pipe in case a rescue unit should come by. It encourages Jimeno and McLoughlin to talk so that death will not take them in their sleep.
Skeptics will call Jimeno’s vision “wishful thinking” or hallucination. But as C.S. Lewis explained, “If a skeptic has already decided that miracles do not and cannot occur, then even if one should take place right in front of his nose, he would simply dismiss it as a coincidence, a natural anomaly, or, like Scrooge, as the result of ‘an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of underdone potato.'” Stone does not look away, or try to dismiss the vision with a wink, or give a “rational” explanation for this non-rational event. He lets the story speak for itself and allows the audience to experience the comfort that Jimeno sensed as God spoke to him in the darkness. And He was speaking to others as well.

Calling and Sacrifice
All the way over in Connecticut, retired United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant-turned-accountant David Karnes sees the impact of the airplanes on the towers, and goes to church to pray. God speaks to him there. Karnes tells his pastor, “I’ve got to go down there. God gave me a gift. I feel Him calling on me for this mission.” As he walks on the rubble he is mysteriously joined by another Marine, Sergeant Thomas, and together they call out, searching for survivors. Ultimately they discover McLoughlin and Jimeno. Quickly, a team is assembled and the rescue begins in earnest. All the men involved risk their lives in the perilous debris for the faint hope of pulling these two men out alive.
How is a viewer to react to Karnes’ claim in the film that he was gifted and called by God to locate and help rescue victims at the World Trade Center? Stone simply presents the facts and lets the viewer decide. In doing so, Stone has done about as much to redeem soldiering as a vocation as Spielberg did with Saving Private Ryan’s Christian sniper, Private Daniel Jackson, with one crucial difference: Staff Sergeant Karnes is no fictional character — he is the real deal. Maintaining Karnes’ Christian witness was integral to the telling of his story, and Stone did not hesitate.
Throughout the film, viewers are also confronted with scenes of unimaginable sacrifice. The debris pile on which the rescue workers labor is unstable, threatening to engulf them at any moment. They continue without flinching. Even each of the buried men, whom one would suppose would do anything to get out, is willing to literally sacrifice himself for the other. If a film more beautifully depicting greater self-sacrifice has been released this year, I haven’t seen it. Virtue upon virtue, it is stunning to behold.

Out of Darkness, Light
Implications abound. If someone has a calling, there must be a Caller. If someone has a gift, there must be One who gives. The prayers, the visions, the calling, the sacrifice, the sheer risk of it all to save two men who certainly should have died is an overwhelming experience, made all the more so because it actually happened. All of it.
McLoughlin says, “9/11 showed us what people were capable of.” He is right, of course, in every sense of those words. The destruction and terror demonstrated the great evil of which people are capable. Stone chooses not to focus on that darker, yet in some ways easier and more visceral, path. Instead, in the depth of the abyss, we see portrayed on the screen, images of the redemption that can arise when people choose faith, courage, and self-denial. World Trade Center is a film that should challenge Christians to pray with expectation, seek to serve, and never be surprised when God chooses to move in miraculous ways.

California Activist Hopeful Governor Vetoes Pro-Homosexual Education Bills

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Hat’s off to the “Governator” (take off of the “Terminator” movies that Governor Schwarzenegger performed in).

(AgapePress) – A pro-family activist warns that California’s State Assembly will likely pass a bill tomorrow that will turn every government-run school in the state into a sexual indoctrination center.
The bill, sponsored by lesbian state senator Sheila Kuehl, would have required public schools to study homosexual historical figures. But Kuehl and her supporters, fearing a certain veto from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, have now amended SB 1437 to prohibit teachers and textbooks from “reflecting adversely” on individuals because of their sexual orientation. The Los Angeles Times reports, however, that even with the changes, the governor has provided “no encouraging signal that he would change his mind” about vetoing the legislation. Schwarzenegger’s press secretary stated the governor will not sign a bill “that micromanages curriculum that is better left to the state Board of Education.”
Randy Thomasson, who heads the Sacramento-based Campaign for Children and Families (CCF), says recent amendments — which Kuehl says gutted about 90 percent of the “import” of the bill — are merely window dressing. SB 1437, he says, “continues to require every textbook, all instructional materials, all school-sponsored activities to positively portray transsexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality, including homosexual marriages, to six million California schoolchildren” — some as young as kindergarten.
Thomasson has described Keuhl’s legislation as a “sexual-agenda bomb dressed up as a child-caring Easter egg.” He contends that pro-homosexual legislators, such as Keuhl, want voters to believe SB 1437 merely updates school anti-discrimination policies by incorporating such terms as “gender” — which the CCF leader says includes transsexuality and transvestitism — and “sexual orientation” — which means bisexuality and homosexuality, he notes.
“But the bill is ultimately about requiring transsexual, bisexual, and homosexual textbooks, instruction, and school activities,” says Thomasson, “because not promoting these sexual lifestyles would ‘reflect adversely’ on them.”
According to the family advocate, Californians have more than just one education bill to be concerned about. “The State Assembly of California will likely pass SB 1437 and SB 1441, the second bill, which will force Christian colleges and universities in California to promote transsexuality, bisexuality and homosexuality,” he says. “It’s a torrid flood of immorality that’s being pushed by the Democrats in California.”
CCF is also calling on Governor Schwarzenegger to veto AB 606 and AB 1056, which Thomasson describes as two more “school sexual indoctrination” bills — both of which were expected to pass out of Senate committee this week. But the governor may decide not to veto any of the pro-homosexual legislation if he does not hear from pro-family Californians, notes Thomasson.
AB 606 would authorize the state superintendent of education to withhold state funds from any district that does not adequately promote transsexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality in its school policies. AB 1056 would authorize expenditure of a quarter-million taxpayer dollars to promote those aberrant sexual lifestyles under the banner of “tolerance education.”
