Saudi Arabia: Sale of pet cats and dogs banned

Friday, September 8th, 2006

The religious police of Saudi Arabia have decided that one cannot buy pet cats and dogs anymore. These folks have way too much time on their hands. May I suggest a hobby or maybe a career in computers?

Saudi Arabia’s religious police, normally tasked with chiding women to cover themselves and ensuring men attend mosque prayers, are turning to a new target: cats and dogs.
The police have issued a decree banning the sale of the pets, seen as a sign of Western influence.
The prohibition on dogs may be less of a surprise, since conservative Muslims despise dogs as unclean. But the cat ban befuddled many, since Islamic tradition holds that the Prophet Muhammad loved cats, even in one instance letting a cat drink from his ablutions water before washing himself for prayers.
The decree – which applies to the Red Sea port city of Jiddah and the holy city of Mecca, bans the sale of cats and dogs because “some youths have been buying them and parading them in public,” according to a memo from the Municipal Affairs Ministry to Jiddah’s city government.
“One bad habit spreading among our youths is the acquisition of dogs and showing them off in the streets and malls,” wrote Aleetha al-Jihani in a letter to Al-Madina newspaper. “There’s no doubt that such a matter makes one shudder.”
“Then what’s the point of dragging a dog behind you?” he added. “This is blind emulation of the infidels.” (That’s you and me, by the way. -ed.)

Report: Released Prisoners Later Carried Out Fatal Attacks

Friday, September 8th, 2006

If there is any question as to what released terrorist do, this should shed some light on it. They remain slimy terrorist who go back to “do it up right” against Israeli Women and Children.

A terror victims group published a report Thursday on Arab security prisoners “without blood on their hands,” who were released by Israel and returned to prison with “much blood on their hands.”
The report, by the Almagor Terror Victims Association, demonstrates that at least 14 of the major terrorist attacks in recent years were carried out by terrorists released from prison in the context of various “good will gestures” and Israeli prisoner deals. All of them were released with assurances to the public that they did not have “blood on their hands,” – a euphemism for those prisoners whose deadly attacks failed to prove fatal.
Between the years 1993-1999, in the context of “confidence building measures” and prisoner deals, Israel released 6,912 terrorists. 854 of them (14%) were arrested subsequently for murder, attempted or otherwise. There are no statistics available for those who returned to non-fatal terrorist activities, instruction or logistical support.
“The mass killing due to these attacks included 123 murdered Israeli citizens, a huge number of victims with disabilities due to the attack and many other victims,” the report concludes. “In all the previous death-bargains, the overwhelming majority of those released returned to terrorist activities, at the cost of a huge destruction of life.”

Plan would allow medical experimentation on uninformed patients

Friday, September 8th, 2006

People have said for years that once we start down the path of minimizing human life (with abortions and death for the mentally ill) that it is a small step toward other devices that will further minimize life. This is just one more step.

Medical experiments could be carried out in the United States on uninformed patients under a rule change proposed by the Food and Drug Administration, charges a California pro-family group..
The plan is in a rule proposed by the FDA regarding “emergency research” that scientists and doctors could conduct on unconscious or otherwise incapacitated patients, said Richard Ackerman of the Pro-Life Law Center.
The proposed rules, known as “Guidance for Institutional Review Boards, Clinical Investigators, and Sponsors: Exception from Informed Consent for Emergency Research,” are scheduled for a public hearing next month.
The proposal would allow the use of any “investigational new drug application” or “investigational device” on people who have a life-threatening medical condition for which other treatments are unsatisfactory. It applies in situations where the patients are unconscious and cannot give consent and none of their representatives is available.
“Such ’emergency research’ could be conducted without any informed consent from the patient or their designated representative,” Ackerman noted.
“Informed consent is a touchstone in regards to human freedom in medical issues,” he said. Pro-Family Law Center, told WorldNetDaily yesterday. “It’s been held in common law for hundreds of years.
“The minute you allow a doctor to cross that line, between the patient or patient’s representive being in the know, you’ve given over complete control to the doctor,” he said.

-snip-

This new battle over the value of life is very important, Ackerman said.
“If a human being can be experimented on with absolutely no consent, we have lost all sense of human dignity. While our nation long ago lost much of its respect for preborn children, we attempted to hold on to the principles of informed consent and human dignity for adults. These new regulations would chip away at the little remaining respect that our nation has for human life.”

Abortion lessons for schoolchildren

Friday, September 8th, 2006

In U.K. schools, children as young as five will be able to learn how nice it is to have an abortion.

Schoolchildren should be given compulsory lessons about the benefits of abortion, ministers’ advisers on sex education claim.
Abortion should be included in teaching about sex to ensure that girls who become pregnant ‘can make an informed decision’ about whether to have one, they said.
And the abortion teaching should combat ‘myths’ that turn teenagers away from terminating their pregnancies, a report for ministers said.
It cited the idea that abortion can lead to infertility as misleading.
The recommendation from the Independent Advisory Group on Teenage Pregnancy would mean – if accepted by the Government – that pupils would be taught about abortion from the age of 11.
But they could also have abortion lessons in primary schools that teach children from the age of five.
The group, which reports to Education Secretary Alan Johnson and Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt, has repeatedly called for sex education classes to be made compulsory and to include testing for all pupils down to the age of five.

Charm Offensive

Friday, September 8th, 2006

Cox and Forkum once again get it right in regards to former Iranian President Muhammad Khatami’s visit to Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. His topic of discussion: “The Ethics of Tolerance in the Age of Violence.” For one of the most intolerant men in the world, from the most intolerant nation in the world, governed by the most intolerant religion in the world to talk on the “Ethics of Tolerance” is laughable!!

Charm Offensive at Cox and Forkum

University rabbi Hirschy Zrachi said yesterday. “People are shocked and offended. This man has no place speaking at a place like Harvard.”
He added: “It is unfortunate that some people don’t have the moral compass to condemn evil.”

-snip-

Cognizant of the deceptive “charm offensive” by Iran’s theocrats, U.S. Representative Brad Sherman, D-CA, appealed to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to deny Khatami a visa to the U.S. In his letter to rice Sherman pointed out, “ A visit by the so-called reformist president would no doubt be utilized for maximum propaganda benefit by the Iranian government in the current standoff over Iran’s nuclear program.” Sherman added:
Khatami was president of a country labeled the number one state sponsor of terrorism by the State Department every year during his presidency…Khatami showed no interest in curtailing his country’s support for terrorism during his tenure as president, and certainly has not shown any now. He was and is a strong proponent of Iranian government material support for such terrorist organizations as Hezbollah, HAMAS, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Terrorist activity, including providing material support for terrorist organizations, is grounds for denying a visa.

2. During this turbaned fascist’s watch, many students’ lives were extinguished for daring to express their opposition to the stone-age regime. Shamelessly, during the 9 July of 1999 students demonstration, for instance, this man called the Tehran university students “A bunch of hooligans,” while his storm-trooper hooligans, with police support, brutally attacked students in their dormitories throwing some students out of the windows of the dorm’s third floor. Now, he is welcomed at Harvard University to lecture its “hooligans” and faculty on practicing tolerance.

A journalist beheaded: Guess why?

Friday, September 8th, 2006

Michelle Malkin has details as to why an Islamic journalist was beheaded. Being that Islam is the Religion of Peace (NOT!!) you can probably guess why he was beheaded.

Mohammed Taha, editor-in-chief of the Sudanese private daily Al-Wifaq, was found decapitated on a Khartoum street Wednesday. He had been kidnapped by masked gunmen. A few arrests have been made; the BBC reports “no-one has claimed responsibility but suspicion will immediately turn to Sudan’s hardline Islamic groups.”
What did Taha do that cost him his life? He insulted Islam, and dared to question Muslim history and other Muslims. (Emphasis mine. -ed.)

Democratic Party Wants to Censor “Path to 9/11”

Friday, September 8th, 2006

Both Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs and Michelle Malkin are reporting on a move by Democrats (apparently successful) to have the ABC docudrama “The Path to 9/11” edited in order to have the failures of the Clinton administration, to stop Bin Laden, minimized. As Johnson points out, the show is none to kind to the Bush administration either, but at this point, only the Dems are complaining and in some cases threatening Disney (the owners of ABC) with loss of their broadcast license if they don’t do as the Dems demand.

In other news concerning this miniseries/docudrama, the AFA is protesting it on the grounds that it uses inappropriate language in the prime time window. They claim that once this show is allowed to be aired in prime time, that it will allow the networks to up the level of bad language and pornography in all shows, but using a “it’s needed for context” argument (which is the argument they used for this one). This is a catch-22 for me. Some local stations have decided to preempt it and show it later in the evening. Let me just say, use some sense, parents, and don’t let your kids watch this show. But I do believe that it could be an eye opener for many adults.

According to what I have read, it is made almost entirely from public record and has members of the 9/11 Commission as consultants. If the Dems don’t like it, then it must have some truth in it.

Update:
Variety.com is saying the ABC may pull the show completely due to growing pressure from congressional Democrats.

Bill Clinton loyalists are demanding wholesale changes to the upcoming miniseries — and while ABC is making some snips, the alterations, insiders say, may not please the Dems.
But a bombshell decision may happen anyway: Sources close to the project say the network, which has been in a media maelstrom over the pic, is mulling the idea of yanking the mini altogether.
