“General Pace: Collision at the Crossroads of Morality” by Michael Craven

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

In comments reported March 13, 2007 by the Chicago Tribune, Marine Corps General and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Peter Pace, compared homosexuality to adultery, saying he believed both were immoral. In response to questions regarding the military’s current policy toward gays, Pace said, “I do not believe the military is well served by a policy that says it is okay to be immoral in any way… I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts… Saying that gays should serve openly in the military, to me, says that we, by policy, would be condoning what I believe is immoral activity…”

The swift and condemning reaction to General Pace’s comments demand that we each know how to correctly respond to the rhetoric being thrown around, which is attempting, albeit indirectly, to establish a new morality. To be clear, General Pace said he thought “homosexual acts” were immoral thus he limited his comments to the behavior and did not condemn persons as he has been repeatedly accused of doing. Furthermore, General Pace placed homosexual acts in the same moral category as adultery, so he was not singling out “gays” or suggesting that homosexual acts are worse than any other immoral behavior.

The reactions to General Pace’s comments reveal a critical shift in the moral consensus that the Church, in particular, but also everyone concerned with a free and healthy society should be concerned with. At issue is the basis upon which we as a society determine and enforce the moral order. Those opposed to Pace’s comments accuse him of bigotry and hate – accusations which clearly represent absolute moral distinctions. Additionally, Jo Wyrick, Executive Director of the Stonewall Democrats said, “It is immoral to send our service members into battle without the proper equipment or plan. It is immoral to deny them proper medical care upon their return and it is immoral to revoke support for our troops…” I would agree, however Ms. Wyrick demonstrates the arbitrary nature of her morality and herein lies the problem – she clearly still holds moral convictions but she, like her counterparts in the gay lobby, selectively chooses which moral positions to which she will adhere.

A society of chaste people, in which sex is limited to monogamous couples of the opposite sex within a socially reinforced relationship, (i.e. marriage in which the societal expectations of fidelity, complimentarity, provision and parenthood are encouraged), experience more stable families, less crime, more children, economic growth and a greater sense of personal responsibility. In effect, these societies are the most successful. Conversely, the prevailing body of historical and sociological evidence demonstrates that those societies which tolerate and/or promote sexual activity apart from monogamous marriage have less family stability, more crime and fewer children. This then necessitates more government intervention and results in a diminished sense of personal responsibility giving rise to the “nanny state.” Increased public assistance discourages private enterprise and inhibits the economy. The socialized democracies of Western Europe are a living testimony to this fact.

Ironically, in all of the responses to General Pace’s comments, there is not one argument offered to advance the moral equality, much less superiority, of homosexual acts and the subject of adultery is ignored altogether. Instead those looking to legitimize homosexual behavior carefully avoid the morality of homosexual acts and instead redirect the issue to one of “civil rights.” Utilizing carefully crafted language, which is intended to portray gays as victims, serves to make all who agree with General Pace feel “intolerant, bigoted, or narrow-minded.” This is taken directly from the infamous “manifesto” of gay activism, After the Ball by Kirk and Madsen in which they write, “In any campaign to win over the public, gays must be portrayed as victims in need of protection… The purpose of victim imagery is to make straights feel very uncomfortable…” The result of this rhetorical misdirection and ideological manipulation is, in effect, the imposition of a new morality that will inevitably produce disastrous societal effects.

Psalm 119:89-96 (New International Version)

ל Lamedh

89 Your word, O LORD, is eternal;
it stands firm in the heavens.

90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations;
you established the earth, and it endures.

91 Your laws endure to this day,
for all things serve you.

92 If your law had not been my delight,
I would have perished in my affliction.

93 I will never forget your precepts,
for by them you have preserved my life.

94 Save me, for I am yours;
I have sought out your precepts.

95 The wicked are waiting to destroy me,
but I will ponder your statutes.

96 To all perfection I see a limit;
but your commands are boundless.

Hirsi Ali Under Threat in US

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Former Dutch MP (Member of Parliament) and an outspoken critic of Islam, Hirsi Ali, moved here to the United States after life in the Netherlands became too dangerous.
Although things improved for her after her arrival here, once again the death threats, that drove her from her from the Netherlands have resumed.
So here we have it. Islamist, in the United States, are threatening to kill Ms. Ali because, by choosing to exercise her freedom of speech, she has insulted the thin skinned islamic terrorist who are already here.
Ms. Ali has as much right as anyone to live freely in this country, without having to fear for her life because she chooses to exercise her first amendment right. But Ms. Ali cannot do that. The the so-called peaceful, loving and tolerant islam has found her, and given a chance, will kill her.
America, when are you going to wake up?

AMSTERDAM – Former MP Ayaan Hirsi Ali is now in danger in the US as well. Her security has been stepped up for the past three weeks. Because of concrete threats, she is now receiving the same level of protection as she previously needed in the Netherlands, the Volkskrant reports.

Hirsi Ali had more freedom of movement when she first arrived in the US last September. Her lack of freedom in the Netherlands was one of the reasons for her move.

The forced isolation made it impossible for her to continue in her position as MP at the time, she said. The Liberal VVD politician had to travel by armoured car in the Netherlands, accompanied by six bodyguards. In the US just two security workers, who kept an eye on her from a distance, sufficed.

Hirsi Ali’s protection is carried out by American security personnel commissioned by the Dutch Justice department. Hirsi Ali works at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington DC, a think-tank that has close ties with the Republican party.

As in the Netherlands, the threats against her come from Muslim extremists. They are in connection with the lectures and media appearances Hirsi Ali has been making since the publication of the American version of her autobiography, “The Infidel,” in January.

The book has sold 148,000 copies over the past two months and led to heated debate in the US.

Besides glowing reviews in The New York Times and other media, Hirsi Ali is also coming up against opposition because of her uncompromising criticism of Islam.

Gaza: At Least Six Dead In Flooding From Sewage Breach

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

This is a terrible disaster. I hope that not only can they help the people effected by it now, but that they can also help them keep from getting the potential diseases that will most certainly come along with this sewage.
I have to wonder though, maybe if the pali authorities were spending more money on maintaining the local infrastructure and less on arming terrorist and trying to kill innocent Israelis, maybe this never would have happened.

Palestinian medical officials said at least six people were killed when the wall of a large cesspool collapsed on Tuesday, flooding the northern Gaza village of Umm Naser with mud and raw sewage.

The officials said dozens were injured and missing, with some saying up to 10 people were killed. The rest of the village’s 3,000 residents fled or were evacuated by rescue crews.

A 70-year-old woman, two toddlers and a teenage girl died in the sudden flood, and 25 people were injured, said Dr. Muawiya Hassanin of the Palestinian Health Ministry. At least 25 houses were completely submerged.

Some 250 houses were damaged by the sewage, some of which were completely destroyed. Up to 4,000 people are being affected by the flooding, officials said.

Rescue crews and Hamas gunmen rushed to the area to search for people feared buried under the slide of sewage and mud.

An official in Gaza City said the raw sewage was presenting a particular danger to health and that the situation was not yet under control.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society and the International Red Cross are handing out some 250 tents to the displaced.

Officials say all local and international institutions are coordinating their relief efforts and are working at a high emergency status.

The cause of the collapse was not immediately clear.

A local Palestinian official blamed the disaster on shoddy infrastructure and UN officials said they had been warning of a catastrophe for more than two years.

A 2004 United Nations report warned that the sewage facility was at its maximum capacity and flooding was inevitable unless a new waste treatment plant was constructed. It said that even without overflowing, the effluent lake posed a serious health hazard, providing a breeding ground for mosquitoes and waterborne diseases.

Stuart Shepard, of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said the wave of waste released Tuesday sent the health risks even higher.

“It is an extremely serious situation,” he said.

Shepard said that since the report was published, international funding for a new plant had been secured but construction had not been able to go ahead because of the high security risks in the area.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum blamed international “sanctions against Palestinians, including Gaza and the West Bank” for the condition of Gaza’s infrastructure. Most foreign donors froze aid to the Palestinian government after Hamas swept to power in a 2006 general election, but Shepard said the Umm Naser project had not been affected by the boycott.

‘Indoctrinate U’ Film Alleges Repressive Climate on Campuses

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

The liberal education system is anything but open to new ideas, especially if those ideas even hint at being “right” leaning.

( – Watch out, Michael Moore and Al Gore. A young filmmaker is preparing to release a full-length documentary that will “tell the story of how, in the name of education, schools from coast to coast ruthlessly compel conformity of thought.”

“When we think of college, we think of intellectual freedom. We imagine four years of exploring ideas through vigorous debate and critical thinking,” filmmaker Evan Coyne Maloney told Cybercast News Service Friday regarding his upcoming movie, “Indoctrinate U.”

“But the reality is very far from the ideal,” he said. “What most of us don’t know is that American college students surrender their rights to free thought and free speech the minute they set foot on campus.”

Maloney spent two and a half years investigating what he called “jaw-dropping incidents of political persecution” directed at students and professors at more than 20 schools across the country, ranging from elite Ivy League campuses to the largest state universities and the smallest community colleges.

The filmmaker’s interest in the subject began when he was an undergraduate student at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. “What I noticed was that basically, from the first day you set foot on campus, the notions of tolerance and diversity were drilled into your head,” he said. “But there wasn’t a lot of tolerance for diverse points of view.”

At the time, Maloney thought the political imbalance was unique to his campus. “But instead, this assault on free thought is taking place all over America — right now — on our nation’s campuses,” he noted.

“It occurred to me that the best way to illustrate the problem was to hear from the people who had been affected by it,” he said, but “I noticed this topic didn’t fit into the Al Gore-Michael Moore worldview,” so “I decided I had to do it on my own.”

One of the stories Maloney recounts in his film involves Steve Hinkle, a student at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo on Nov. 12, 2002, when the College Republican posted flyers on campus promoting a speech by conservative African-American author Mason Weaver entitled “It’s OK to Leave the Plantation.”

As Cybercast News Service previously reported, Hinkle was accused of disrupting a campus event while posting the flyers in the school’s multicultural center and ordered to write letters of apology to any students who were offended by his actions. Hinkle refused to do so.

The impasse continued until September of 2003, when Hinkle sued the university over its refusal to clear his record of any charges related to the incident.

In the end, Maloney noted, “the university had to pay Hinkle’s $40,000 in legal fees, which by the way came from the taxpayers because that’s a public campus.” Still, he said that a school “harassing a student for 18 months is completely unacceptable.”

Confident Turkey Looks East, Not West

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

And continuing to fulfill Biblical prophesy:

Disillusion with the EU has deepened since Brussels part-suspended talks in December after a row over Cyprus. The hostility, as seen from Ankara, of French presidential candidate Nicolas Sarkozy and the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, has poisoned the pot further.

But anger and frustration is slowly giving way to a new, more assertive idea: that perhaps Turkey does not really need Europe after all … – … and the EU will come to regret its insultingly complacent chauvinism as Turkey goes its own way.

“Europeans underestimate the importance and influence of Turkey,” said Fuat Keyman, professor of international relations at Istanbul’s Koc university. “If they are serious about the future of Europe as a power in global affairs, they need to change their thinking.”

Turkey’s increasingly important regional leadership role is also changing the way it views the EU. As a vital transit hub, it provides much of Europe’s oil and gas from the Caspian basin, Russia and, prospectively, the Turkic republics of central Asia. This is leading to closer cooperation with Moscow and reviving ideas of a Turkic Commonwealth from Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan.

The “reformed Islamist” government in Ankara is also cultivating the Arab and Muslim world. It signalled a new strategic relationship with Egypt this week. It sent peacekeeping troops to Lebanon last year. It talks to Iran when many will not or cannot. Close links to Israel have not prevented the building of ties with Hamas and the Palestinian Authority. And despite tensions with the Kurds, Turkey is northern Iraq’s main economic partner. Istanbul is the likely venue of next month’s Iraq summit.

Rising ultra-nationalism and “neo-Ottoman” thinking, Islamist extremism and political instability are the acknowledged dangers of Turkey’s rise. But its strength is its 70 million people’s drive and energy, a dynamic resource that flabby, middle-aged western Europe lacks.

And then, there is fierce pride. “Ours is the only country to reconcile Islam with a fully functioning, multiparty democracy in a modern, secular republic,” said opposition MP Sukru Elekdag. “Our experience shatters the myth that Islam cannot accommodate democracy.”

Group Says ‘Hate Crimes’ Bill An Impending Threat To Christians

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Here is additional information on the pending “hate crimes” bill that will make it illegal for Christians to teach that homosexuality is a sin. I wonder if you Christians who voted Democrat in order to “punish” the Republicans, had any idea that your party was going to do this type of thing? If you didn’t, you certainly haven’t been reading this blog.
Be sure to write to your congress person expressing your opposition to this bill. Write them today. You are running out of time.

The head of a Washington-based pro-family group is urging opposition to federal “hate crimes” legislation she fears will soon be approved by the Democrat-led Congress — and that bill, she believes, threatens the free-speech rights of those who strongly oppose homosexuality.

Representatives John Conyers (D – Michigan) and Mark Kirk (R – Illinois) have reintroduced the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act. The bill would include crimes against homosexuals, bisexuals, and transgenders in federal hate crimes statutes. Andrea Lafferty, executive director of the Traditional Values Coalition (TVC), contends the ultimate goal of the bill is to silence anyone who believes homosexuality is a sin.

“People need to understand that the hour is very, very late,” Lafferty urges. “We now have a bill that give special protections to people who are homosexual, bisexual, transgendered, cross-dressers.” She describes transgenders as individuals “who have had sex-change operations and are clearly very disturbed.”

According to Lafferty the bill would elevate homosexuals to a special protected status. “So if a pastor stands up in the pulpit and says homosexuality is a sin … it will be considered hate speech,” she says; “and if this law passes, the federal government will go after people who say those kinds of things.”

The TVC executive director contends there is not an epidemic of hate crimes in the U.S., as the bill’s sponsors claim, nor are large numbers of homosexuals fleeing across state lines to buy goods and services they cannot in their home states because of persecution.

The bill is likely to sail easily through the House, says Lafferty. That is why she is urging Christians to begin calling on President Bush to issue a veto threat.

Immigration reform group blasts amnesty-friendly STRIVE Act

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I still don’t understand what part of “illegal” congress doesn’t get. People in this country do not illegal aliens given amnesty. Period.
Be sure to contact your congress person about not supporting this bill.

An immigration reform organization says the latest immigration bill introduced in the House is nothing more than an amnesty for millions of illegal aliens already in the United States.

The STRIVE Act of 2007 (Security Through Regularized Immigration and a Vibrant Economy), introduced by Congressmen Luis Gutierrez (D – Illinois) and Jeff Flake (R – Arizona), is similar to the Senate bill put forward last year by Senator Ted Kennedy and John McCain. Kennedy even praised the Gutierrez-Flake bill, and said he was optimistic a new Senate bill will follow.

An overview of the Act promises to secure the U.S.-Mexico border, strengthen interior enforcement of immigration laws, bolster employment verification of immigrants, and provide what it calls “earned legalization for qualified, hardworking individuals.” In Flake’s words, it also creates a “temporary worker program that’s enforceable and fair.”

But Ira Mehlman of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) takes issue with that assessment. Mehlman says despite promises of tougher enforcement, all the STRIVE Act does is give millions of illegal aliens what they want.

“Really what it does is it grants amnesty to just about everybody who’s been in the country illegally before June 1, 2006,” Mehlman explains; “so that encompasses just about everybody who’s in the country illegally right now.”

The FAIR spokesman says the legislation proposes what he describes as a “monumentally silly and pointless exercise” of requiring all illegal aliens to go the nearest border and “turn around and come right back — as though that is going to solve the problem and make it okay with the American public.” Mehlman says the sponsors must think the American people are completely stupid.

“So not only is it the same old amnesty bill that the American public rejected last year,” he says, “but on top of that they’re now going to try to insult the intelligence of the American people.”

Mehlman says he is content for lawmakers to haggle over this latest legislation as long as they wish because Gutierrez has admitted that if the Senate and House do not get their bills passed by July, the approaching election cycle will make it much more difficult to get it through.

Psalm 119 – Kaph

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Psalm 119:81-88 (New International Version)

כ Kaph

81 My soul faints with longing for your salvation,
but I have put my hope in your word.

82 My eyes fail, looking for your promise;
I say, “When will you comfort me?”

83 Though I am like a wineskin in the smoke,
I do not forget your decrees.

84 How long must your servant wait?
When will you punish my persecutors?

85 The arrogant dig pitfalls for me,
contrary to your law.

86 All your commands are trustworthy;
help me, for men persecute me without cause.

87 They almost wiped me from the earth,
but I have not forsaken your precepts.

88 Preserve my life according to your love,
and I will obey the statutes of your mouth.

“Distress and Perplexity” by Jack Kinsella

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” directed by Davis Guggenheim, was released in May and took in more than $46 million, making it one of the top-grossing documentaries.

The companion book by Al Gore quickly became a bestseller, reaching No. 1 on the New York Times’ list.

Gore depicted a future in which temperatures soar, ice sheets melt, seas rise, hurricanes batter the coasts and people die en masse. “Unless we act boldly,” he wrote, “our world will undergo a string of terrible catastrophes.”

The film’ success, together with the adulation, if not outright worship he received at the hands of the Beautiful People in Hollywood, have some speculating that Al Gore may throw his hat into the 2008 presidential ring.

Al Gore is scheduled to make an appearance before Representative John Dingell’s (D-Mi) Energy and Commerce Committee this week.

After that, its over to the Senate where Gore will address Senator Barbara Boxer’s (D-Ca) Environment and Public Works Committee.

But Gore won’t get the rock star treatment over his film “An Inconvenient Truth” that he got from Hollywood at the Oscars. It seems that the Congress has actually looked at the science, instead of all the pretty charts and graphs.

They’ve consulted with genuine scientists, climatologists and astronomers, and evidently, now they’d like to know what is really going on.

Even James Hansen, an environmental scientist, director of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (and a top adviser to Gore), is beginning to question some of Gore’s scientific conclusions, admitting the former VP’s work may have a few ‘technical flaws’.

Gore’s global warming argument won over many converts in the scientific community in the wake of the 2004-2005 hurricane seasons, which he predicted was just the beginning of what Gore maintained was a permanent cycle of increasing hurricane activity.

Until last season, when the Atlantic hurricane season produced only half as many storms as forecasters predicted, none of which made landfall in the United States.

This past January, while America was enjoying what seemed to be one of the warmest winters on record, Gore’s stock was riding high; everywhere you turned, Somebody Famous was quoting Al Gore and noting darkly,

“The cherry blossoms are blooming in Washington. People are jogging in Central Park in shorts and T-shirts. Surely this is PROOF of global warming.”

The House scheduled emergency hearings to discuss global warming. (They had to be subsequently canceled due to an ice storm)

The whole country suddenly plunged into a deep freeze that saw snowstorms in Malibu, California, hard freezes in Florida, and caused an estimated $1 billion in damage to the nation’s citrus crops.

Last week, a group of activists, intending to highlight the global warming threat by walking to the North Pole, had to cancel their journey due to the cold.

The explorers, Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen, on Saturday called off what was intended to be a 530-mile trek across the Arctic Ocean after Arnesen suffered frostbite in three of her toes, and extreme cold temperatures drained the batteries in some of their electronic equipment.

“Ann said losing toes and going forward at all costs was never part of the journey,” said Ann Atwood, who helped organize the expedition.

In Northhampton, Mass last Friday, a group of global warming activists planned to walk across the state to draw attention to global warming. They made it eight miles through snow so deep that one demonstrator said she felt like she was ‘breaking a trail’ before they called a halt to the walk until the weather cleared.

And now, even the New York Times is beginning to question Gore’s conclusions, (an event roughly analogous to the Pope publishing a paper questioning the existence of God.)

Noted the NY Times; “a report last June by the National Academies seemed to contradict Mr. Gore’s portrayal of recent temperatures as the highest in the past millennium. Instead, the report said, current highs appeared unrivaled since only 1600, the tail end of a temperature rise known as the medieval warm period.”

The Times’ continued: “Geologists have documented age upon age of climate swings, and some charge Mr. Gore with ignoring such rhythms.”

“Nowhere does Mr. Gore tell his audience that all of the phenomena that he describes fall within the natural range of environmental change on our planet,” Robert M. Carter, a marine geologist at James Cook University in Australia, said in a September blog.”

“Nor does he present any evidence that climate during the 20th century departed discernibly from its historical pattern of constant change.”

I am eagerly awaiting answers from Gore to some of the questions that are expected to be put to him by House investigators on both panels.

I found a few sample questions on the Drudge Report that I would really love to hear Gore tackle in public.

For example, Gore has linked global warming to human activity and overpopulation. He is expected to be asked what, in his opinion, would be a sustainable global population?

Since it would, by definition, have to be less than the current global population, I’m more than curious about Gore’s plans to reduce the surplus population to sustainable levels.

Senator James Inhofe, (R-Ok) is expected to question Gore on his science. Recent interplanetary observations indicate that Mars, Jupiter and Pluto are also showing signs of increasing surface temperatures. Earth is the only inhabited planet.

Researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Germany note that the sun has seemed to be burning more brightly for the last 60 years, which may account for the increase of 1 degree.

The only thing all three planets have in common is they are all heated by the same sun.

So how does human activity account for that?

In his movie, “An Inconvenient Truth” Gore warns of a 20-foot rise in sea levels. The UN’s IPCC panel, whose latest report sparked global outrage against the United States for refusing to sign the Kyoto Treaty, concluded “that the world’s seas in this century would rise a maximum of 23 inches – down from earlier estimates.”

(That’s a difference of eighteen feet, one inch. Does is being off by 90% fall within the range of scientific certainty? Enquiring minds want to know.)

Marlo Lewis, senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, prepared a Congressional working paper on global warming in advance of Gore’s House testimony.

(You can read the entire Lewis report at this link:

Lewis’ paper concludes that Gore “vastly overstates carbon dioxide’s importance” in climate change, noting that the 1930s were warmer than current temperatures. (Remember the Depression-era Oklahoma “Dust Bowl”?)

According to Lewis’ research, “Nearly every significant statement that Vice President Gore makes regarding climate science and climate policy is either one-sided, misleading, exaggerated, speculative or wrong.”

“Gore calls global warming a ‘moral issue,’ but for him, it is a moralizing issue — a license to castigate political adversaries and blame America first for everything from hurricanes to floods to wildfires to tick-borne disease,” Lewis said.”

“Somehow, he sees nothing immoral in the attempt to make fossil energy scarcer and more costly in a world where 1.6 billion people have never flipped a light switch and billions more are too poor to own an automobile,” he said.”

Pretty scathing stuff, given it was published by the New York Times!

Gore intends to bring to Congress some 300,000 electronic ‘signatures’ on a petition demanding Congress “do something” about global warming.

Gore said the signatures demonstrate “that hundreds of thousands of people share my sense of urgency” on climate change.

(According to my calculations, 300,000 works out to a fraction of one percent of the US population of 360,000,000. In contrast, according to a 1981 Roper Poll, 2.9 million Americans –1.4% — of the US population believe they’ve been abducted by aliens)

According to Gore, members of Congress have “failed to act, because they have not yet faced a sufficient expression of political will on the part of the American people demanding they confront our climate crisis head on.” (Translation: Not enough people have been “scared green” yet.)

In the 1970’s “Newsweek” published an article under the title, “The Cooling World” in which it pointed to “ominous signs that the Earth’s weather patterns have begun to change” and pointed to “a drop of half a degree [Fahrenheit] in average ground temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere between 1945 and 1968.”

The article claimed that “[t]he evidence in support of these predictions [of global cooling] has now begun to accumulate so massively that meteorologists are hard-pressed to keep up with it.”

Not to be outdone, TIME Magazine issued its own report on the coming Ice Age in it’s June, 1974 issue:

“However widely the weather varies from place to place and time to time, when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe they find that the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing. Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age.”

“Telltale signs are everywhere —from the unexpected persistence and thickness of pack ice in the waters around Iceland to the southward migration of a warmth-loving creature like the armadillo from the Midwest.Since the 1940s the mean global temperature has dropped about 2.7° F. Although that figure is at best an estimate, it is supported by other convincing data.”

In His outline of the signs of the times that would signal His imminent return, Jesus told His followers:

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth DISTRESS of nations, with PERPLEXITY; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” (Luke 21:25-26)

I set off two words in all-caps because those words are very specific in their meaning.

“Perplexity” according to one dictionary, means: “to puzzle or confuse somebody, especially causing doubt.” Another defines it as “to make confusedly intricate; complicate.”

A third defined it by posting a picture of Al Gore. (Ok, I made that one up)

“Distress” is defined as “to cause strain, anxiety or suffering”, or, “great danger or difficulty, with a need for immediate assistance.”

It is significant to note that even the most vocal Congressional critic, Senator James Inhofe, does not deny the current warming trend. He just doesn’t believe it is being caused by human activity.

Inhofe (and others) have been paying attention instead to recent solar activity — signs in the sun — that indicate the sun is warming up — hence the warming patterns detected in Mars, Jupiter, etc.

During the Tribulation Period, the Bible says that the world will definitely see some catastrophic climactic shifts.

“And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat. . .” (Revelation 16:8-9)

“And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.” (Revelation 16:18-19)

But Jesus is addressing the signs of His Return, not the Tribulation judgments.

He warned of ‘signs’ that would perplex and distress NATIONS, with men’s hearts failing them for FEAR at the PERCEPTION of what is COMING on the earth (future, not present) from some celestial threat (“powers of heaven shall be shaken”), a perception not yet realized.

Al Gore is bringing to Congress some 300,000 electronic ‘signatures’ from those so distressed by his “Inconvenient Truth” that has so perplexed the world’s scientific community that they are demanding that ‘something must be done’ to prevent the predicted sea level rises that will flood the world’s coastlines and put most of Florida underwater. (the sea and the waves roaring).

If it seems is as if Al Gore, the global scientific community and the US Congress are following a preordained script, it is because that is exactly what is happening.

Jesus explained the purpose for Bible prophecy for the last days, saying, “And now I have to you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.” (John 14:29)

Because, Jesus said, “When these things BEGIN to come to pass” we are to, “look up, and lift up our heads,” because our redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21:29)

There is no evidence that global warming is either a permanent trend nor is there evidence to support Gore’s contention that fifty years from now, Arizona will be beachfront property.

Thirty years ago, the same evidence predicted we were about to enter a new ice age.

At best, there is evidence that there has been a brief period of unusual sun spot activity, accompanied by a slight warming of the solar system, similar to the warming period responsible for the Dust Bowl phenomenon in the 1930’s.

I am not saying that the planet isn’t warming. Neither I am I a trained scientist qualified to say that the IPCC is categorically wrong. (Other trained scientists are, however.)

What I am saying that they say the best evidence so far proves only that the last decade or so has been warmer than the preceding two decades.

But the ENTIRE world is perplexed and distressed to the degree that there is a global concensus that ‘something must be done’ despite the fact nobody knows either what is wrong or how to fix it.

“So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.” (Luke 21:31-32)

Al Gore wasn’t the first to predict the warning signs of impending climactic catastrophe. Jesus Christ was.

But the signs don’t indicate catastrophic global warming that demand immediate human intervention.

They indicate that the King is coming! And He is coming soon.

“Behold, I have told you before.” (Matthew 24:25)

“A Sucker’s Bet” by Todd Strandberg

I’m very keen to read ever-negative email sent to Rapture Ready. Reading all the letters that disagree with the site helps me better understand why people have trouble with the end-time message. I use this information to help me refine the advice we offer to the public.

At the heart of many emails is content I identify as the “Sucker’s Bet.” These people view us “Doomsday Christians” as wasting our lives by endlessly waiting for a Lord who is never coming. They base their view on the idea that Jesus hasn’t come in 2000 years, so this complete lack of activity should prove that He is not coming at all.

Some of these people bet they will have the satisfaction of watching me squander my life on a meaningless quest. But I’m not sure where they see the payoff. If I outlive them, there is no payoff. The only wager I see is their hope that Jesus doesn’t come back and bring their carefree existence to a premature end.

What is a “Sucker’s Bet”? A “Sucker’s Bet” is a gamble that someone makes based on a false view of the odds. Someone believes he has a higher likelihood of winning than he actually does. I can think of two popular games of chance that perfectly illustrate this.

If you have ever been to a carnival, you may have seen the “milk bottle toss.” The game may have other names, but it usually involves trying to use three or four beanbags to knock down six small metal bottles that are stacked in a pyramid. What makes this a sucker’s bet is the fact that the three bottles on the bottom of the pyramid are much heavier than the ones on top. While the three lighter-weight bottles on the top row can be easily knocked over, toppling those on the bottom requires a direct hit.

Another “Sucker’s Bet” is the claw vending machine you might see at a mall or at the entrance of a supermarket. The game features prizes–usually plush toys such as teddy bears–heaped inside a clear case. The player puts coins into the machine, activating a joystick that controls the claw for a short time. The catch is that the player can move the claw back, forth and sideways–but not up or down.

As popular as the machines are, they are commonly considered to be rigged. In many cases, the claw lacks the mechanical strength to extract a prize. Inside these one-hooked-bandits is a control box that controls the grip strength and “pay-out” odds. A survey by a British group found that a typical machine is set to offer only a reasonable chance every fourth try. Having played one of these games before, I’ve noticed my chances were comparable with what they would be if I were blindfolded.

I believe people who scoff at prophecy are making a “Sucker’s Bet” because they fail to realize that prophecy is in an advanced state of fulfillment. Everything the Bible refers to as a major sign of Jesus’ return began with the end-time avalanche in 1948 when Israel became a nation. The rise of China as a world power, global terrorism, integrated financial markets, and the diplomatic struggle over who should control Jerusalem are just a few more indications that the odds favor the Lord’s soon return.

Ironically, the Bible prophesies that one of the signs of the end-times is people making “Sucker’s Bets.” The more these people mock, the more they are pushing the prophetic clock closer to doomsday.

“Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with {their} mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? Forever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation'” (2 Pet. 3:3-4).

When I respond to people, I reply to the real issue they are secretly addressing. People normally write me because they are bothered by events that confirm Bible prophecy. I point out to them that prophetic fulfillment is the real reason they’re mad at me, and I warn them by saying, “If my luck with the end-time signs doesn’t run out soon, yours will.”

“Shariah in Minnesota?” By Katherine Kersten

Monday, March 26th, 2007

MINNEAPOLIS–The land of 10,000 lakes and that welcoming attitude we call “Minnesota Nice”–is becoming a window on America’s potential future. Here in Minneapolis, one of the nation’s most livable cities, hard-line Muslim activists are injecting an element that is anything but nice.

Troubling incidents began several years ago, when taxi drivers at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport–about three-quarters of whom are Muslim–started refusing to transport passengers carrying alcohol. One woman, returning from France with wine, was turned away by five cabs in succession. Refusals of service now number about 100 a month, and heated altercations have erupted.

In September 2006, the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) proposed a two color top-light pilot project to indicate which drivers would accept passengers with alcohol. The proposal, later dropped, would apparently have marked the first time that a government agency in the U.S. officially recognized Shariah law, and distinguished individuals who follow it from those who don’t.

In November 2006, the six “flying imams” bumped the taxi drivers from the headlines. In Minneapolis for a conference, the imams were detained after engaging in what an airport police report called “suspicious” activity. Some prayed loudly in the gate area, spoke angrily about the U.S. and Saddam, switched seats and unnecessarily requested seat belt extenders with heavy buckles that could be used as weapons, according to witnesses. They were questioned and released later that day. The imams denounced the incident as racial and religious profiling. “If up to now, [Americans] don’t know about prayers, this is a real problem,” said Omar Shahin, one of the detained men and head of the North American Imams Federation. Twin Cities imams demanded a separate Muslim prayer room at the airport.

Earlier this month, the six imams filed suit in U.S. district court in Minneapolis against US Airways and the Metropolitan Airports Commission, claiming discrimination and defamation. Now some Muslim cashiers at Twin Cities Target stores have begun refusing to scan pork products, like bacon and pepperoni pizza, and insisting that other cashiers or the customers themselves do it.

What’s going on? It appears that both local circumstances and activists with a big-picture agenda play a role. Take the taxi drivers. Minnesota is home to tens of thousands of Somalis, most recent immigrants. Behind the scenes, moderate local Somali leaders are engaged in a power struggle with national Muslim organizations that seek to exploit this vulnerable population. Islam prohibits the consumption of alcohol but not its transportation, say Somalis who reject the taxi drivers’ stance. Yet in June 2006, the Muslim American Society’s (MAS) Minnesota chapter issued a “fatwa” forbidding drivers here from carrying alcohol to avoid “cooperating in sin.”

Hassan Mohamud, one of the fatwa signers, praised the two top-light proposal as a national model for accommodating Islam in areas ranging from housing to the workplace. But according to Omar Jamal of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center in St. Paul, MAS is “trying to hijack and radicalize the Somali community for their Middle East agenda.”

Ahmed Samatar, a recognized expert on Somali society at Macalester College in St. Paul notes that “There is a general Islamic prohibition against drinking, but carrying alcohol for people in commercial enterprise has never been forbidden.” Similarly, Islam prohibits consuming pork, but not touching or scanning it, according to Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf of the American Society for Muslim Advancement in New York. It is, or should be, “a nonissue.”

In Washington, the Democratic leadership is likely to seek passage of the End Racial Profiling Act, of which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called herself, in 2004, a “proud” cosponsor. Both MAS and CAIR are stumping for the bill, which would bar airport security personnel from disproportionately questioning Muslims or people of Middle Eastern descent. Minnesota’s Keith Ellison, the nation’s first Muslim Congressman, told me that the imams’ situation reflects a misunderstanding of Muslim prayer and will be sorted out in court, while the other matters stem from the normal process of immigrant adjustment.

The events here suggest a larger strategy: By piggy-backing on our civil rights laws, Islamist activists aim to equate airport security with racial bigotry and to move slowly toward a two-tier legal system. Intimidation is a crucial tool. The “flying imams” lawsuit ups the ante by indicating that passengers who alerted airport authorities will be included as defendants. Activists are also perfecting their skills at manipulating the media. After a “pray-in” at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., one credulous MSNBC anchor likened the flying imams to civil rights icon Rosa Parks.

The comparison is misplaced: Omar Shahin, leader of the detained imams, has helped raise money for at least two charities later shut down for supporting terrorism. From 2000 to 2003, he headed the Islamic Center of Tucson, which terrorism expert Rita Katz described in the Washington Post as holding “basically the first cell of al Qaeda in the United States.” CAIR has long been controversial for alleged terrorist ties, while the Chicago Tribune has described MAS as the American arm of the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood, which “preaches that religion and politics cannot be separated and that governments eventually should be Islamic.”

So far, Minnesotans have said a resolute “no” to Muslim activists’ agenda; in an informal Star Tribune poll, 92% of respondents blamed the imams’ own behavior for their airport detention. And Target–after unsuccessful attempts to accommodate Muslim cashiers–is reassigning them to other jobs. Still, there is a sense that we’ve seen just the opening skirmishes. As MAC spokesman Patrick Hogan put it, “I think people are afraid there will be a chapter two.”

Islamic Moderates Threatened

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Here is the reason that we don’t hear more from anyone who might want to actually be an Islamic Moderate.

OTTAWA–Toronto police have launched a hate crime investigation into a phone call from a man who vowed to “slaughter” members of a local Muslim group unless they stop speaking publicly about Islam.

A message left Monday on the voice mail of the secretary general for the Muslim Canadian Congress warned that organization members must “cease from your campaign of smearing Islam” or “I will slaughter you.” (typical muslim message of peace, love and tolerance. -ed.)

The message mentioned congress founder Tarek Fatah and current president Farzana Hassan-Shahid by name. Both have openly criticized the politicization of Islam and alleged influence of Iran and Saudi Arabia in Canadian mosques.

It’s not the first time they’ve been threatened. Hassan-Shahid said since publishing her book Islam, Women and the Challenges of Today, she has been heckled and had her home vandalized.

“But swearing by God that ‘I will do this and slaughter all of you,’ that’s pretty chilling,” Hassan-Shahid said yesterday.

Canada’s Secretary of State for Multiculturalism said he was deeply disturbed by the threat and had notified Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day about the case.

“Threats of violence against individuals for their political or religious views have no place in this country,” Jason Kenney told reporters here yesterday.

“It’s totally unacceptable and I would hope the whole community – both the Muslim communities and the broader community – would stand in solidarity with those who are being threatened.”

Fatah is well-known for his opposition to Sharia law, having campaigned against a 2005 effort to introduce the religious arbitration courts into Ontario law. The Muslim congress has also lobbied for the right of women to lead prayers in mosques and against mandatory requirements to don the hijab.

Those who oppose his views accuse Fatah of monopolizing the media’s attention and fostering Islamophobia.

He said a threat last August persuaded him to resign as communications director for the Muslim Canadian Congress, but he still writes newspaper editorials, hosts a current affairs show and is writing a book.

Fatah says both he and Hassan-Shahid will continue to speak out but are frustrated with the lack of public debate and the inability to air their views without the threat of violence.

“It’s the youth I’m trying to reach out to with respect to providing a different perspective on Islam and women’s rights and progress in general and nobody seems very interested in even entertaining another viewpoint,” Hassan-Shahid said yesterday.

“It does surprise me a bit because Canada is a very open society and has always tolerated dissent. I feel that the subculture among traditional Muslims within Canada seems to be extremely insular, seems to not want to integrate at all.

Toronto police Sgt. Jim Hogan, former head of the Hate Crime Unit, said crimes motivated by hatred for religious or ethnic groups tend to fluctuate year by year and often relate to current events either in Canada or abroad. The unit tallied 15 reports of anti-Muslim hate crimes last year. That’s up from only one in 2000, but down from the spike in 2001 after the 9/11 attacks.

I wonder why it’s not considered a “hate crime” when the islamic religious leaders preach hate, death and destruction against Westerners?

Psalm 119:73-80 (New International Version)

י Yodh

73 Your hands made me and formed me;
give me understanding to learn your commands.

74 May those who fear you rejoice when they see me,
for I have put my hope in your word.

75 I know, O LORD, that your laws are righteous,
and in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

76 May your unfailing love be my comfort,
according to your promise to your servant.

77 Let your compassion come to me that I may live,
for your law is my delight.

78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause;
but I will meditate on your precepts.

79 May those who fear you turn to me,
those who understand your statutes.

80 May my heart be blameless toward your decrees,
that I may not be put to shame.

Complaint Cites Abortion Judge’s Money Ties

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Well, this could explain a lot about how the infanticidal abortion doctor got away with breaking the law.

A Kansas state lawmaker has filed a formal complaint against a district judge for refusing to disclose his financial ties to the attorney of notorious late-term abortionist George Tiller and others while ruling in Tiller’s favor in a criminal case.

State Sen. Tim Kuelskamp has submitted the complaint against District Judge Paul W. Clark, which was co-signed by several leaders of national pro-life organizations, to the Kansas Commission on Judicial Qualifications.

At issue are Clark’s repeated rulings that prevented former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline from pursuing a case involving 30 criminal counts against Tiller, who was accused of performing illegal late-term abortions and failing to provide the medical documentation the state requires for those procedures.

The links, as WND has reported, were exposed during an investigation by the pro-life Operation Rescue, which is based in Wichita, Kan., like Tiller’s abortion business.

The complaint concerns events and “irregularities” that “raise substantial suggestions of partiality” on the part of Clark, who while ruling to dismiss the 30 criminal counts against Tiller, failed on three occasions to disclose his “funding relationships” with Tiller’s attorney, Dan Monnat, and Sedgwick County District Attorney Nola Foulston, who submitted the request through which Clark dismissed the counts.

The complaint states that Clark acted improperly when he did not disqualify himself from the Tiller case and asks for the KCJQ to “take appropriate disciplinary action, and thereby preserve and protect the public trust in the judicial system of the State of Kansas.”

The state senator was joined in the complaint by national pro-life leaders including Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue; Dr. Gary Cass, executive director of Reclaiming America; Rev. Patrick Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition; Janet Folger, president of Faith2Action; Rick Scarborough of Vision America Action; and Phillip L. Jaurequi, president of Judicial Action Group.

“Judges must be held to a high standard of ethics, and we believe that Clark violated those ethics by making a ruling that showed obvious partiality,” said Newman. “The appearance of corruption has shaken the public confidence in the justice system. Americans from around the nation have come to question whether Kansas is currently capable of enforcing its own laws.”

He said Clark “should be held accountable for his unethical actions in order for that confidence to be restored.”

Leaders with Operation Rescue earlier filed their own complaint with state health regulators, asking that Tiller’s license be revoked for “committing illegal late-term abortions.”

The group filed a complaint with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts last October, and just weeks ago submitted a series of seven additional documents in support of that request, including a copy of the 30 criminal charges filed by the state’s former attorney general against Tiller.

“Our own investigations revealed that Tiller was likely doing illegal abortions. The former attorney general came to that same conclusion,” said Newman.

The criminal complaint ended up being dismissed by Clark on Foulston’s request on jurisdictional grounds, and the merits of the actual allegations never have been challenged, OR said.

In fact, two state judges reviewed the investigation and resulting complaint and approved it even before Kline filed the case, officials said.

Kansas law bans abortions past 22 weeks gestation, allowing exceptions only if the woman’s life is in danger or if the pregnancy will cause a “substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function,” officials said.

However, many of the late-term procedures are done with a justification of “depression,” and Operation Rescue noted that while former Attorney General Carla Stovall, an abortion supporter, allowed such mental conditions to be considered a “major bodily function” under state law, “depression” does not rise to the level of “substantial and irreversible.”

Shelly R. Wakeman, the disciplinary counsel for the healing arts board, responded that the review could take some time. “You will likely be contacted by an investigator for more information. Kansas law requires that the Board keep matters under investigation confidential. This means that unless public disciplinary action is taken against the licensees, we will be unable to advise you of the progress or of the findings of our investigation.”

Also named in the complaint was Ann Kristin Neuhaus, a Tiller associate who had been listed as a witness in the state’s case that Kline assembled against Tiller

After Clark dismissed the counts, Kline appointed a special prosecutor to handle the case, but his actions were stymied when the new attorney general, Paul Morrison, took office and fired him and requested a dismissal of the special prosecutor’s action in the state Supreme Court.

German Judge Rules Koran Allows Wife Abuse

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

It’s good to know that the we in the U.S. are not alone in the fact that our judicial system has run amok.

BERLIN (AFP) – A German woman judge has refused a Moroccan-born woman permission to file for divorce by interpreting the Koran as allowing husbands to beat their wives.

“Where are we living? Woman judge allows beating in marriage… and invokes the Koran,” said a front-page headline in Germany’s top-selling Bild newspaper, reflecting the widespread angry reaction on Thursday.

“This Moroccan woman has the same right to protection from a violent husband as any German woman. Anything else would be misconceived sensitivity to the benefit of the husband and would amount to racist discrimination against the wife,” said the Tageszeitung daily.

The Central Council of Muslims in Germany also condemned the decision.

“The judge should have made a decision based on the German constitution instead of the Koran,” said spokeswoman Nurhan Soykan, who said that violence and mistreatment, regardless of the gender of the victim, were also grounds for divorce in the Islamic world. (yeah right. -ed)

A court in the western city of Frankfurt on Wednesday upheld a complaint of bias against the judge lodged by the lawyer of the 26-year-old woman, who has two children.

The woman had filed for immediate divorce on the grounds that the husband, also of Moroccan origin, regularly beat her and threatened to kill her. The claims were backed up by a police report.

But the female judge, who has not been named, made clear in a letter that the wife’s bid had little chance of approval because, according to her, Islamic law allowed a man to strike his wife.

German politicians from all parties were united in disgust at the judgement.

“When the Koran takes precedence over the German Basic Law, then I can only say: Good night Germany,” Ronald Pofalla, the secretary general of the conservative Christian Democratic Union of Chancellor Angela Merkel, told Bild.

Hans-Christian Stroebele, of the opposition Greens, said the kind of abuse suffered by the woman should be punished by German criminal law.

Hamas TV Shows 4-Year-Old Girl Vowing Suicide Bombing

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

And there we have it, folks. The so-called wonderful, sensitive and caring folks who run pali-land have once again shown how well they can instill hate and radicalism into their children. Once again, they have shown just how much they love their property…um, I mean children.

“Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us.”
-Golda Meir (1898-1978), Prime Minister of Israel (March 17, 1969 – June 3, 1974) the National Press Club, Washington D.C., 1957.

“But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”
-Yeshua bar Josef (≈8–2 BC to ≈29–36 AD), Son of God, (see more titles here)…(-∞ BC to +∞ AD), to his disciples, Capernaum area, ≈3 AD.

Jerusalem ( – Hamas television broadcast a video dramatization on Wednesday in which the four-year-old daughter of female suicide bomber vows to do what her mother has done.

The child is an actress, but the point was clear.

According to Palestinian Media Watch, the child actress, playing the part of a real child named Duha, finds her mother preparing explosives in her bedroom and sings, “Mommy, what are you carrying in your arms instead of me?”

The mother tries to hide the bomb. Later, Duha sees a television news story about her mother’s suicide bomb attack. “Instead of me, you carried a bomb in your hand,” Duha sings. “Only now, I know what was more precious than us.”

Duha asks her mother to tell the Muslim prophet Mohammed that she sends her love — and that she will be following in Mommy’s footsteps. The last image shows Duha finding explosives in her mother’s bedroom drawer.

The video is based on real people. Duha’s mother was Reem Riyashi, who, at the age of 21, blew herself up at the Erez crossing, killing four Israelis. Hamas and the Al Aksa Martyrs Brigades of the Fatah faction claimed responsibility for the 2004 attack.

Palestinian Media Watch Director Itamar Marcus told Cybercast News Service that there have been other programs where young teens express their desire to become martyrs, but he has never seen a child as young as the actress playing Duha serve as an advocate for suicide bombing.

“This is Hamas’ ideology,” said Marcus. Reem Riyashi was said to be the first female suicide bomber employed by Hamas.

After she killed herself and others, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, the spiritual leader of Hamas, praised her for setting an example for other women to die in the fight against Israel.

In an unrelated story on the same topic, Iraqi police said on Wednesday that two children were used as decoys to help a bomb-laden car make it through a U.S. checkpoint in northern Iraq.

Both children died when the car blew up. According to press reports, the driver of the car was allowed to park in a busy shopping area after he made it clear that he was leaving his kids in the back seat.

“Children in the back seat lowered suspicion,” Major General Michael Barbero was quoted as saying. “We let it move through. They parked the vehicle. The adults run out and detonate it with the children in the back.”

Our Amazing Son

Luke 21:25
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring…….

Hinode, the newest solar observatory on the space scene, has obtained never-before-seen images showing that the sun’s magnetic field is much more turbulent and dynamic than previously known.

Hinode, Japanese for ‘sunrise’, was launched on 23 September 2006 to study the sun’s magnetic field and how its explosive energy propagates through the different layers of the solar atmosphere.

“For the first time, we are now able to make out tiny granules of hot gas that rise and fall in the sun’s magnified atmosphere,” said Dick Fisher, director of NASA’s Heliophysics Division. “These images will open up a new era of study on some of the sun’s processes that effect Earth, astronauts, orbiting satellites and the solar system.”

Hinode’s three primary instruments, the Solar Optical Telescope, the X-ray Telescope and the Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer, are observing the different layers of the sun. Studies focus on the solar atmosphere from the photosphere – the visible surface of the sun, to the corona – the outer atmosphere that extends outward into the solar system.

Thanks to coordinated measurements from the three instruments, Hinode is already showing how changes in the structure of the magnetic field and the release of magnetic energy in the low atmosphere spread outward through the corona and into interplanetary space.

“The release of magnetic energy is at the base of space weather,” says Bernhard Fleck, ESA’s SOHO and Hinode Project Scientist. “Complementing the SOHO data with those of Hinode will allow us to improve our understanding of the violent processes on the Sun that drive space storms. The synergies between the two missions will clearly boost our space weather forecasting capabilities.”

Space weather involves the production of energetic particles and the emissions of electromagnetic radiation. These bursts of energy can black out long-distance communications over entire continents and disrupt the global navigational system.

Thank you, Lord, for the signs.

Gore Refuses Energy Pledge

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Al Gore, the self-proclaimed ‘environmental prophet’, has refused to commit to using no more energy than the average American. Does anyone else see the irony here? He is making a mint off of selling the world a lie, but is not willing to practice what he preaches. Gore’s double-talk is exactly the reason we did not and still do not need him in the White House.

Al Gore, who has a mansion in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, has rejected a senator’s request that he take a pledge to use no more energy than the average American.

As WND reported earlier, the former vice president’s home consumes more electricity each month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to data compiled by the Tennessee Center for Policy Research from the Nashville Electric Service.

The request was put to Gore by Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., who is the ranking member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, during a congressional hearing this week at which Gore was asking Congress to impose new taxes to address global warming.

Inhofe showed Gore a film frame from “An Inconvenient Truth,” Gore’s award-winning film about the cause of global warming, where it asks viewers: “Are you ready to change the way you live?”

“There are hundreds of thousands of people who adore you and would follow your example by reducing their energy usage if you did. Don’t give us the run-around on carbon offsets or the gimmicks the wealthy do,” Inhofe told Gore.

Illiegal Immigrants Require 6 Arrests to Warrant Federal Prosecution in Texas

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

OK, here’s the understatement of the day:
“Let’s be honest, there isn’t enough jail space to incarcerate everyone who crosses that border,” said Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council. “If everyone demanded hearing in front of an immigration judge, it would bring our system to a grinding halt in a matter of days.”
Well duh!! Of course their aren’t enough jail cells to hold the number of illegal immigrants coming across our borders. That why we need CLOSED AND SECURE BORDERS!!
I’m not faulting Mr. Bonner or the border patrol in any way. They are being asked to do an impossible job. They are undermanned, out gunned and attempting to secure thousands of miles of border with nothing to stop the illegals. It’s a Herculean task and just not possible. Now if there was a “barrier” (read that as at least two really tall electric fences with razor wire at the top and a deep ditch, with sharp metal spikes in the bottom of it, between them) along the WHOLE border, then maybe they could do it.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Guidelines issued by U.S. attorneys in Texas showed that most illegal immigrants crossing into the state had to be arrested at least six times before federal authorities would prosecute them, according to an internal Justice Department memo.

The disclosure provides a rare view of how federal authorities attempt to curb illegal immigration. The memo was released this week in response to a congressional investigation of the dismissals of eight U.S. attorneys.

The Border Patrol makes more than 1 million arrests a year on the U.S.-Mexico border. T.J. Bonner, head of a union representing Border Patrol agents, said it’s unrealistic to prosecute all violators.

“Let’s be honest, there isn’t enough jail space to incarcerate everyone who crosses that border,” said Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council. “If everyone demanded hearing in front of an immigration judge, it would bring our system to a grinding halt in a matter of days.”

It is unclear when the memo was written, but the Justice Department reviewed the guidelines sometime after a February 2005 performance review of Carol Lam, the top federal prosecutor in San Diego from 2002 until she was fired last month. Some Republican lawmakers had complained that Lam failed to aggressively prosecute immigration violations.

Guidelines vary by office, but migrants with no criminal records who have not been deported by an immigration judge will almost certainly be turned back to Mexico “numerous times” before getting prosecuted, according to another Justice Department memo dated Nov. 22, 2005. Those “voluntary returns” are booked on administrative, not criminal, violations.

Parts of the other memo are blacked out, so it’s unclear whether the document refers to U.S. attorneys in Houston or San Antonio.

The memo says one Texas district prosecutes migrants if the Border Patrol catches them at least six to eight times. The other district prosecutes after someone is caught at least seven times.

In late 2005, the government created a 200-mile zone near Del Rio, Texas, in which every adult arrested for illegal immigration would be prosecuted and jailed before being deported.

The San Diego office, which covers an area stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the Arizona state line, does not prosecute “purely economic migrants” as a general rule, according to the memo.

The Arizona district, the nation’s busiest corridor for illegal crossings, “almost certainly” declines to prosecute on a first or second offense, the memo says. The New Mexico district makes decisions based on criminal records in the U.S.

Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, who advocates a crackdown on illegal immigration, said the Texas guidelines underscore a lax enforcement attitude. He said the federal government should contract for more jail space, perhaps with local governments.

“If you made it a priority of the department, you would see a reduction,” Tancredo said.

Arizona’s Paul Charlton and New Mexico’s David Iglesias were also among the eight U.S. attorneys abruptly fired. Justice Department officials have said they were concerned about the prosecutors’ approach to immigration cases.
