At the first light of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the lions’ den. When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?”

Daniel answered, “O king, live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, O king.”

The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
Daniel 6:19-23 (New International Version)

“What a wonderful example of God’s faithfulness. Daniel was faithful in honoring and praying to his God and God was faithful to deliver him from the Lions’den.”

Israel Braces for July War With Up to Five Enemies

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Christians, if you are not looking up, now is the time.

JERUSALEM — Israel is preparing for an imminent war with Iran, Syria and/or their non-state clients.

Israeli military intelligence has projected that a major attack could come from any of five adversaries in the Middle East. Officials said such a strike could spark a war as early as July 2007.

On Sunday, Israeli military intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin told the Cabinet that the Jewish state faces five adversaries in what could result in an imminent confrontation. Yadlin cited Iran, Syria, Hizbullah, Hamas and Al Qaida.

“Each of these adversaries is capable of sparking a war in the summer,” Yadlin was quoted as saying.

[On Monday, Al Qaida’s No. 2 Ayman Zawahiri endorsed the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip, Middle East Newsline reported. The Al Qaida statement came after Zawahiri repeatedly criticized Hamas for tolerating Palestinian Authority cooperation with the United States.]

Yadlin said Hamas could be planning a major attack to divert attention away from efforts by the Palestinian Authority to isolate the Gaza Strip. He said Syria might be promoting such an attack.

Officials said Iran has direct influence over Syria, Hizbullah and Hamas. He said Al Qaida has increasingly come under Iranian influence and was being used by Iran and Syria in such countries as Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon.

Already, military intelligence has assessed that Hamas acquired more than 50 missiles with a range of 22 kilometers. Officials said this would allow Palestinian missile strikes on any part of Ashkelon, the largest city in southeastern Israel and which contains strategic sites.

Hamas has also deployed at least 20 SA-7 anti-aircraft systems, officials said. They said the missiles threaten Israeli combat helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft that conduct missions over the Gaza Strip.

On Monday, Palestinian gunners continued missile fire into Israel. Hours earlier, the Israel Air Force struck an Islamic Jihad squad said to have been driving toward the northern Gaza Strip to launch missiles toward Israel. One Jihad operative was killed and two others were injured.

Israeli military intelligence has assessed that Hamas was being quietly supported by neighboring Egypt. Officials said that despite Egypt’s announced ban, Cairo has continued to allow Hamas leaders to enter the Sinai Peninsula from the Gaza Strip.

Over the weekend, officials said, a Hamas delegation led by former PA Interior Minister Said Siyyam entered Sinai. They said the 15-member delegation was escorted by Egyptian security forces to Cairo for a flight to Damascus, where they were scheduled to meet Hamas political bureau chief Khaled Masha’al.

On Monday, Egypt was scheduled to host a regional summit meant to support PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. Israel, Jordan and Abbas were expected to attend the meeting in the Sinai resort town of Sharm e-Sheik.

People Born Homosexual, Say Local School Officials

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Well there you have it. School officials at the Montgomery County Board of Education in Maryland have been able to accomplish what some of the most brilliant genetic scientist in the word have not been able to prove, people are born homosexual.
I’m looking forward to seeing their publications on this matter, what test where used, what part of the human genome the homosexual gene appears in and other scientific details.
Oh wait…they don’t have any of that information. Actually they know that some people are born homosexual because…well, because they (the school officials) say so.

The Montgomery County Board of Education in Maryland has accomplished what science and medicine have been unable to confirm, simply declaring in its newly approved school curriculum for children that some babies are born homosexual.

Activists are appealing the decision and former homosexuals are claiming discrimination due to the decision by the school board to pilot a controversial new sex education curriculum – against the advice of hundreds of practicing physicians in the county.

Developed by its own staff, the educational materials were given a test run in six schools in the county district at the 8th and 10th grade levels. Now they are supposed to be implemented in all schools soon.

But since its decision on Jan. 9, 2007, the school board has garnered a barrage of criticism.

A strong opponent of the curriculum is Citizens for a Responsible Curriculum, a non-profit Maryland-based group formed in response to the board’s decision. According to its website, the group believes in the parental right to have “ultimate authority to guide the moral direction of their children without interference by an increasingly activist public school system.”

Another organization leading the charge against the curriculum, “Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays,” recently released a statement that, “According to the American Psychiatric Association, there are no replicated scientific studies supporting any specific biological cause for homosexuality. But now the Montgomery County Board of Education has done what science and medicine could not do by declaring in its newly approved curriculum that homosexuality is ‘innate’ or inborn.”

Unit 8:2 of the new 8th grade textbook includes a definition of innate from the 2006 edition of the Merriam Webster’s Dictionary as meaning “determined by factors present in an individual from birth.” The curriculum then instructs teachers to “Say to students, ‘Sexual orientation is innate and a complex part of one’s personality.”

But the same text contradicts itself later when asking, “What causes sexual orientation? Almost certainly there is no single reason why some people are homosexual, heterosexual, or bisexual. According to the American Psychological Association, sexual orientation results from an interaction of cognitive, environmental, and biological factors.”

Parents and doctors object to the text as inaccurate, unscientific, and discriminatory. The board received an objection to the material signed by more than 270 practicing physicians in Montgomery County, stating that the information in the curriculum was inaccurate and possibly dangerous to students on the grounds that it did not disclose health risks associated with minority sexual behavior.

The board did not return a WND message requesting comment.

PFOX lodged its complaints on the basis that the newly approved curriculum discriminates against ex-gays and, according to PFOX representative Peter Sprigg, it “fails to tell the students that specific sexual acts can be far more harmful to them than other sexual acts…. it fails to tell students that some individuals experience a change in sexual orientation in the course of their lives.”

Legal issues are also involved. According to PFOX Executive Director Regina Griggs, “The board’s own policy states that citizen advisory committees are required by Maryland law in order ‘to ensure that local school boards will be informed by a variety of opinions from citizens.’ The school board placed a PFOX representative on the committee in order to receive viewpoints from all segments of the community, yet our input to the board is continually blocked by gay activist groups and others who serve on this committee and deny equality for ex-gays,” said Griggs. “The committee has failed to serve its purpose.”

WND has documented a number of earlier cases in which educators have been shown to be promoting a homosexual lifestyle to children.

Just a week earlier, WND reported that California Supt. of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell, under whose supervision hundreds of thousands of children are being educated, has used his state position and taxpayer-funded stationery to praise a “gay” pride event that has been used in the past to expose children to sexually explicit activities.

That drew vehement objections from several, including Priscilla Schreiber, the president of the Grossmont Unified High School District governing board. “I am outraged that a person in this high-ranking elected position would advocate an event where diversity is not just being celebrated, but where pornography and indecent exposure is being perpetrated on the young and innocent children of our communities,” she said.

WND also covered the issue when officials in Boulder, Colo., held a seminar for students where they were told to “have sex,” including same-sex experiences, and “take drugs.”

And another school event promoted homosexuality to students while banning parents and at still another, WND reported school officials ordered their 14-year-old freshman class into a “gay” indoctrination seminar after having them sign a confidentiality agreement promising not to tell their parents.

Hate Crimes Law: A Real Threat to Your Religious Freedom

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Another alert from AFA on the “Hate Crimes Law”, pending in the senate and house, that will elevate homosexuals to the same protected status as race.
If you have not contacted your legislature member to oppose these bills, time is running out. You must do so now.

As we reported last week, Congress is considering a “hate crimes” law that would authorize enhanced punishments for crimes committed because of various reasons, including sexual orientation. If the law passes in the near future the federal government will be empowered to investigate and punish politically incorrect speech and thoughts.

Think it can’t happen here? Consider what has happened in Oakland, California, where the following words disseminated through the government’s open email system and employee bulletin board have been deemed inflammatory and perhaps even a hate crime: “Marriage is the foundation of the natural family and sustains family values.”

Please take a few minutes to read the insightful commentary about the Oakland case by columnist George Will titled, “When marriage became a ‘hate crime.'”

The federal “hate crimes” legislation – H.R. 1592 and S. 1105 – appears on a fast track to passage unless you act today. It is a threat to your freedom of speech and your freedom of religion.
Take Action

We are looking for one million Americans willing to take a stand and not allow a small group of homosexual activists to take away our freedoms. Can we count on you? Click on the link below to sign our Petition to Congress in Defense of Religious Freedom.

Please forward this to others, especially your pastor, and ask them to get involved in protecting our freedoms of speech and religion. This threat to our religious freedoms is real!

Olmert: “We’ve Turned Fatah’s Downfall into Opportunity for Peace”, Agrees to Release Prisoners

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

He just doesn’t tell us how. Especially when he returned from the Sharm el-Sheik summit without any “tangible agreements” or mo solutions “to combat the increasing Hamas-driven terrorism in Gaza.”
He is also going to release terrorist prisoners. Sure Olmert, now that Hamas has captured all the weapons you gave to Fatah, what better way to grow an army of people set on killing all Israelis, than releasing their prisoners.
Does this guy even live on the same planet as the rest of us?? I don’t think so.

SHARM EL-SHEIKH – After delivering a speech laden with messages of peace and regional cooperation, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was satisfied on his way back from the from the Sharm el-Sheik summit.

“Within eight days Olmert has managed to turn the downfall of Fatah in the Gaza Strip into an opportunity for peace. He’s got the backing of the United States, the Quartet and now the moderate Arab states as well,” said a senior aide to the prime minister after the summit.

Despite the declarations of satisfaction however, it should be noted that no tangible agreements emerged from the summit, no solution to combat the increasing Hamas-driven terrorism in Gaza.

Olmert came to the summit armed with several surprise gestures for Abbas to take home as dowry on the heels of one of the most trying times for the Palestinian Authority. Besides the release of 250 Fatah prisoners Olmert also pledged Israel would provide equipment to Fatah forces and open roadblocks in the West Bank to ease restrictions on the Palestinian public.

This in addition to the gestures reported by Palestinian official Saeb Erekat, that Israel would grant immunity to wanted Fatah men in the West Bank and retreat its forces to the September 2000 lines in the region.

“The prime minister proved that his intentions to promote peace talks with Abbas are serious,” said an Israeli State official, “however in private talks Olmert demanded that Abbas also prove his sincerity to combat terror and lead the Palestinian Authority towards a peace process with Israel.”

Seven Who Could Stop Amnesty

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

The senate is going to try to shove the amnesty bill down our throats again today. You need to contact your senator and voice your opposition to this bill.
Michelle Malkin list seven senators who could bring this whole mess to an end. If one of them is your senator, please contact them immediately and tell them to oppose this bill.

Stopping amnesty is entirely within the power of senators who oppose it. Later today, the Senate will vote on whether to proceed on the bill. To revive the once-stalled bill will require 60 votes, which means that if the senators who vote no and the senators who don’t vote add up to 41, the bill is dead. The best vote count now has 33 no votes plus the non-vote of the ill Sen. Tim Johnson. Assuming this count is accurate, only seven more are needed to stop amnesty.

Those votes are available from a bipartisan group of senators who say they oppose the amnesty bill. They are Sens. Kit Bond, Sam Brownback, Richard Burr, Thad Cochran, Norm Coleman, John Ensign, and Jim Webb. If any of these senators votes to revive the bill, his professions of opposition to amnesty should no longer be taken seriously. He will have done his crucial bit, when the amnesty bill was most vulnerable, to help shepherd it to passage. We know how senators who claim to oppose amnesty will try to explain away a vote to revive the bill. They will rely on procedural obfuscation: They didn’t want to obstruct the process, they wanted to get a vote on an amendment, etc. But amnesty is staying in the bill — no amendment to strike the bill’s central features has any chance of passage — and it deserves to be obstructed.

Swedish Scientist Accuses Global Warming Activist of Falsifying Data and Destroying Evidence

Monday, June 25th, 2007

This is a very interesting article and even though it is long, it is written so that most people will be able to understand it. It is an interview of Swedish paleogeophysicist Nils-Axel Mörner, who’s been studying and writing about sea levels for four decades and Gregory Murphy of Executive Intelligence Review.
This from NewsBusters:

If you listen to the global warming alarmists working for the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or folks like soon-to-be-Dr. Al Gore, sea levels across the globe are rising at a rate that will eventually doom us all.

According to Swedish paleogeophysicist Nils-Axel Mörner, who’s been studying and writing about sea levels for four decades, the scientists working for the IPCC have falsified data and destroyed evidence to incorrectly prove their point.

Mörner was recently interviewed by Gregory Murphy of Executive Intelligence Review, and began by making it clear that the sea level claims made by the IPCC are a lot of nonsense.

The bottom line is this:
Ocean levels do not back up the claim that global warming is meting the ice caps.
There are many good statement in this article, but I like this one the best:

EIR: These scare stories are being used for political purposes.

Mörner: Yes. Again, this is for me, the line of demarcation between the meteorological community and us: They work with computers; we geologists work with observations, and the observations do not fit with these scenarios. So what should you change? We cannot change observations, so we have to change the scenarios!
Instead of doing this, they give an endless amount of money to the side which agrees with the IPCC. The European Community, which has gone far in this thing: If you want a grant for a research project in climatology, it is written into the document that there must be a focus on global warming. All the rest of us, we can never get a coin there, because we are not fulfilling the basic obligations. That is really bad, because then you start asking for the answer you want to get. That’s what dictatorships did, autocracies. They demanded that scientists produce what they wanted.

“Embracing Dhimmitude” by Jack Kinsella

Monday, June 25th, 2007

The Pakistani Minister of Religious Affairs, Mohammed Ijaz ul-Haq, voiced his disapproval of Queen Elizabeth’s decision to confer knighthood on Salman Rushdie, saying:

“The West is accusing Muslims of extremism and terrorism,” ul-Haq said, as if it were a completely unfounded charge, before going on to say;

“(But) If someone exploded a bomb on his body, he would be right to do so unless the British government apologizes and withdraws the “Sir” title.”

Salman Rushdie is the author of a book published in the 1980’s entitled, “The Satanic Verses.” The book so inflamed tender Islamic sensibilities that Iran’s Ayathollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a 1989 fatwa ordering Rushdie’s murder.

The fatwa resulted in Rushdie’s spending the next decade in hiding under a kind of ‘witness protection program’ — complete with a British security team charged with keeping the guy alive.

In the eastern city of Multan, Muslim students burned effigies of the Queen and Rushdie. About 100 students carrying banners condemning the author also chanted, “Kill him! Kill him!”

Legislators in Pakistan’s lower house of parliament on Monday passed a resolution proposed by Sher Afgan Khan Niazi, the minister for parliamentary affairs. Now Rushdie is, by official resolution of the Pakistani parliament, a ‘blasphemer’.

Niazi told the Pak National Assembly, “The ‘Sir’ title from Britain for blasphemer Salman Rushdie has hurt the sentiments of the Muslims across the world.”

He then went on to say that Rushdie should be stripped of the title, on the grounds that, “Every religion should be respected.”

To demand respect for a religion whose adherents chant “Kill him,” because they feel insulted is nothing short of comical.

Advocates of murder don’t deserve respect. Neither does a worldview that could countenance such barbarism.

Contrast “Kill Him” with Romans 12:20: “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.”

Islam makes insulting Christianity and Christians an article of faith under the doctrine of ‘dhimmitude.”

“Dhimmi” is the Arabic term that refers to its non-Islamic embracing population that has suffered the dishonor of living in Islamic conquered lands.

A ‘dhimmi’ is a distinctly subjugated second class non-citizen almost slave who is subjected to dictatorial deprivation of any legal and human rights since he is a non-Muslim permanent resident in a Muslim state.

Throughout earliest Islamic history, the conquered peoples by advancing Muslim armies were given the choice of either converting, being killed, or living as a conquered people, a dhimmi.

These subjugated people were suspended in time and space, for dhimmitude meant being barely tolerated in your dispossessed land.

Rules are formulated to deny the dhimmi due process of the law. Discriminatory and restrictive dress and behavior codes are severely enforced to reduce the dhimmi into a state of despair and poverty.

Dehumanization of the dhimmi is generally the rule. Various forms of physical abuse were common.

Merely passing a Muslim on the wrong side can justify a beating that could leave a dhimmi mortally wounded. Since dhimmis are denied the ability to testify against a Muslim, there can be absolutely no recourse.

Islam doesn’t demand ‘respect’. It demands fear.

What is fascinating is the reaction from the West to Islamic anger at Rushdie’s knighthood.

Personally, I am not particularly impressed with knighthood. Elton John, Paul McCartney and Bono are all Knights of the British Empire, making knighthood the British equivalent to a Grammy Award.

But while most of the Western world doesn’t take knighthood very seriously, they definitely take Islamic anger seriously. There were more than 800 newspaper articles worldwide this morning lamenting the Queen’s ‘regrettable’ decision.

Let’s revisit ‘dhimmitude’ once more. A ‘dhimmi’ is one who subjects himself to Islamic rule and accepts the limitations placed on non-Muslims when it comes to Islam.

A ‘dhimmi’ may not defend himself against Islamic attacks, however, Muslims may attack dhimmis on a whim. Death threats, under Western law, are a crime.

If I were to threaten a person with death, I would go to jail, and rightly so. In a civilized world, a person has the right to live his life free of fear. That is the very definition of ‘civilized.’ Pakistan is allegedly ‘civilized’.

So when a Pakistani lawmaker advocates suicide bombing as a justifiable response to Salman Rushdie’s knighthood, one would expect the rest of the civilized world to say something like, “Hey, wait just a doggone minute! That ain’t right!”

Or something. Anything. But silence?

What kind of reaction is silence? It is the reaction Islam expects of dhimmis.

The British government’s reaction was not ENTIRELY silent. A lone article in the South Asia News reported that, “The British government has expressed its ‘deep concern’.”

What would the British government’s reaction be if the US Senate passed a resolution calling for the death of, say, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed?

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed didn’t INSULT Americans. He KILLED them. More than three THOUSAND of them. But the British government is on record opposing his execution. The Brits call such a sentence ‘barbaric’ — even if ordered after a legal trial and conviction.

What makes Islamic reaction to an INSULT less egregious than America’s reaction to mass murder?

If Britain’s assessment of America as barbaric were rooted in moral principles, then one would expect a considerably stronger reaction to Pakistan than ‘deep concern.’ What is the difference?

Dhimmitude.

What did the US State Department have to say about the Paki government’s resolution that Salman Rushdie is a ‘blasphemer’ worthy of death?

I don’t know. Can’t find it anywhere.

Now that Hamas has placed the Gaza Strip under Islamic law, Christians in Gaza who engage in “missionary activity” will be “dealt with harshly.”

“I expect our Christian neighbors to understand the new Hamas rule means real changes. They must be ready for Islamic rule if they want to live in peace in Gaza,” said Sheik Abu Saqer, leader of Jihadia Salafiya, as quoted in Worldnetdaily.

What is the price for ‘peace’? Dhimmitude.

“Jihadia Salafiya and other Islamic movements will ensure Christian schools and institutions show publicly what they are teaching to be sure they are not carrying out missionary activity. No more alcohol on the streets. All women, including non-Muslims, need to understand they must be covered at all times while in public,” Abu Asqer told WND.

“Also the activities of Internet cafes, pool halls and bars must be stopped,” he said. “If it goes on, we’ll attack these things very harshly.”

What is the ‘civilized’ world’s reaction? I don’t know. There aren’t many Western news organizations who will even mention it, let alone express a reaction to it. Apart from WND, (and the Omega Letter), I’ve not been able to find a single story on the subject.

Just silence. Dhimmitude.

ABC News reported this week that an Islamic training camp in Pakistan has graduated a 300-strong class of suicide bombers with orders to infiltrate and launch attacks against the US, Canada, Great Britain and Germany.

No action, diplomatic or otherwise, is either advocated or contemplated against Pakistan. After all, it isn’t Islam that’s responsible.

It’s global warming.

“Which Bible are YOU reading?” by Michael G. Mickey

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Sometimes I feel like asking some of my brethren in Christ, “Which Bible are YOU reading?” Such was the case last night when I read the following headline: “World Council of Churches denies Israeli claim to God-given land.”

According to the article attached to that headline, the World Council of Churches is representative of over 560 million Christians in more than 110 countries. Let the record reflect that it does NOT represent this Christian! Why? Because the article indicates that it is going to “launch a global initiative to have churches worldwide rally for an end to Israel’s occupation of Arab lands seized in the 1967 Mideast war.”

Christian churches rallying against the apple of God’s eye in favor of the Arab world which hopes to wipe Israel from the face of the earth? Unthinkable and yet it’s going to happen. God help us! Which Bible are these people reading? Seriously!

The descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, according to the Word of God, are not ‘occupying’ one inch of land that isn’t theirs. Quite the contrary!

Genesis 15:18: In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

There are a number of possibilities concerning what is referred to in the above passage as “the river of Egypt.” Some believe this is a reference to a branch of the Nile river while others believe it is a reference to the Wadi El-Arish, which is near Al’ Arish.

The Euphrates river? Well, most everyone knows where that is at this point.

At any rate, as we look at the biblical text, there is no cause whatsoever for the World Council of Churches to state that Israel is ‘occupying’ anyone else’s lands! None whatsoever and yet it is doing so, in spite of the clear teachings of God’s Word.

The Bible states in Genesis 17:8 and Genesis 48:4 that the lands Israel presently exists in (and far more) are given to the children of Israel as an everlasting possession! The diaspora of the Jewish people having been over since 1948, the Jewish people are back in possession of their ‘everlasting possession’ and this time, although a period of unprecedented darkness lies ahead as evidenced in part by the content of this commentary, they’re going to keep it this time!
In the Bible we’re told there will be a falling away from the faith in the days leading up to Christ’s return. Surely we are living in those days when ‘Christians’ (and I use that term loosely in this instance) from all over the world are gathering in one accord to pressure the nation of Israel into giving up its covenant lands, especially to those whose allegiance lies with a god whose goals directly oppose those of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – the God of the Bible!

Which Bible are these people reading?

CDC Releases Report on Sexual Behavior and Drug Use

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Some very grim statistics from the CDC in regards to sexual behavior and drug use.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 96 percent of Americans over the age of 20 have had sex.

This is just one of the findings in a report issued Friday by the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics about American’s sexual behavior and drug use.

The report uses data collected from 1999 to 2002 from 6,237 people aged 20 to 59. Participants submitted computer-assisted self-interviews about the use of cocaine, crack, freebase, and other street drugs, but marijuana was not included. Sexual behavior was defined as vaginal, oral or anal sex.

In previous federal surveys on these topics, participants were asked questions in face-to-face interviews; the CDC believes that caused underreporting of behaviors that might be viewed negatively.

“This is the first time we’ve used this technique,” said Dr. Kathryn Porter, who served as medical officer for the survey. “The participants have a headset on, they hear questions, they touch the screen with responses. There’s no one else in the room and they can take as long as they want.”

Porter said the findings would provide grist for further studies, notably on the prevalence and patterns of sexually transmitted diseases.

Highlights from the report include:

• Twenty-nine percent of men reported 15 or more female sexual partners in a lifetime compared with 9 percent of women who reported having 15 or more male sexual partners in a lifetime.

• Of all race or ethnic groups, Mexican Americans had the highest percentage of persons never having sex at almost 12 percent.

• Sixteen percent of adults first had sex before the age of 15.

• Only 6 percent of non-Hispanic black persons abstained from sex until age 21 years and older compared with 17 percent for Mexican Americans and 15 percent for non-Hispanic white persons.

• The proportion of adults who first had sex before the age of 15 was highest for persons with less than a high school education

• The median number of lifetime female sexual partners for men was seven and the median number of lifetime male sexual partners for women was four.

• One out of every five adults between 20 and 59 has tried cocaine or street drugs sometime in their life.

• Non-Hispanic white persons had a higher percentage of ever using cocaine or other street drugs while non-Hispanic black persons had a higher percentage of past year use.

• Married adults were less likely to have used cocaine or other street drugs in their lifetime or in the past year.

Michelle Malkin Challenge to Rosie O’Donnell and Her Ilk: “Speak Up About The Human Rights Outrage in Iran”

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Today I am joining blogs Gateway Pundit, Ali Eteraz, and Iran Focus in reprinting the latest batch of Iranian repression photos being distributed by the regime’s state-run FARS News agency and ISNA. The innocent young men in the photos were beaten, humiliated, and arrested for wearing Western clothing and hairstyles. It is in the public interest to spread these photos far and wide. The images should be seared onto the global conscience…

Question: Will these photos be blared across the front pages of the international media with as much disgust and condemnation as the photos of Abu Ghraib or the manufactured Gitmo Koran-flushing riots?

Answer: Fat chance.

Question: What do leftist apologists for the Iranian regime have to say about the brutal, appalling, and escalating crackdown on human rights? Yeah, you, Rosie.

Answer: Nothing.

Question: Will the same moral cowards who sat silently while Mohammad Khatami, former President of Iran, advocated executing gays during a Harvard lecture stand up now against this barbarism?

Answer: Of course not.

So what does Amnesty International USA have to say about the Iranian human rights debacle on its homepage today? Nothing. Instead, the site promotes two campaigns for Darfur and a lead story about the campaign to secure habeas corpus rights for terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay…

A challenge to Rosie and Amnesty International USA members and America’s progressive left (I know there are a few on the story, but they are far between): How about taking a day off from Bush-bashing and America-blaming to raise your voices against the mullahcracy’s brutal human rights abuses?

How about posting the FARS/ISNA photos on your blogs and calling attention to the innocent Iranian men being bloodied to a pulp for the crime of embracing Western dress?

Or how about spreading the word about the work of Nazanin Afshin Jam on behalf of Iranian minors sentenced by sharia courts to death for defending themselves against rape or for crimes against “chastity?”

Or how about joining the campaign to stop public stonings?

Or how about embedding these videos so that the cries of Iranian women and girls don’t go unheard…

Go to Michelle’s blog to see images of the human rights abuses Iran is currently engaged in (warning some images are graphic).

Christian Persecution in the U.K.

Monday, June 25th, 2007

A British court is considering a case in which a Christian student was told that her purity ring, symbolizing her commitment to premarital chastity, was against the dress code. Her suit against the school maintains that Sikh and Muslim pupils were permitted distinctive dress to show their religious identity, but in her case she was prohibited from showing her religion.
It will be interesting to see how the British court rules.

LONDON, June 22 — At a time of passionate debate over religious clothing and emblems, a 16-year-old member of an evangelical Christian movement protested in court on Friday because her school has refused to allow her to wear a so-called purity ring, symbolizing her commitment to premarital chastity.

The case offered a counterpoint to a broader discussion concerning Muslim women who wear the full-face veil known as the niqab. But it also revealed stirrings of resentment among some members of Britain’s Christian majority, who say they are the victims of discrimination over how they display their faith.

The young woman, Lydia Playfoot, said her school, at Horsham, south of London, had told her that the ring broke the school’s rules on uniforms and jewelry.

But Ms. Playfoot argued that the prohibition breached her right to express a religious belief. Not only that, she said in a statement to the court, Sikh and Muslim pupils were permitted distinctive dress to show their religious identity.

Ms. Playfoot belongs to a British branch of an American-based evangelical movement known as Silver Ring Thing. Both her parents work for the branch, according to its Web site, www.silverringthing.com.

“The real reason for the extreme hostility to the wearing of the S.R.T. purity ring is the dislike of the message of sexual restraint, which is ‘countercultural’ and contrary to societal and governmental policy,” Ms. Playfoot said in a written statement to Britain’s High Court.

“It is this message from the Judeo-Christian position that is suppressed: exemptions are allowed or permitted for other messages,” she said, arguing that her school “doesn’t offer equal rights to Christians.”

Her remarks showed another aspect of a tangled debate here that has largely centered on concern among British leaders that the Muslim full-face veil has become what Prime Minister Tony Blair called a “mark of separation.” That led some Muslims to say they were the object of discrimination.

But Ms. Playfoot’s remarks suggested that Christians like her see themselves as being treated unfairly.

Much of the debate hinges on whether the purity ring is a religious requirement.

In a statement to the court, Leon Nettley, principal of the school, Millais, said, “It is not a Christian symbol, and is not required to be worn by any branch within Christianity.”

“It is never simple to draw boundaries,” he continued. “If we allow one set of pupils to wear rings symbolizing one particular message, when that item of jewelry is not required by their religion, then doubtless other pupils will then demand to be able to wear jewelry symbolizing other messages.”

Mr. Nettley acknowledged that Ms. Playfoot had been punished for wearing the ring in May 2005 by being separated from other students for an afternoon. And, he said, he had permitted students of other faiths to wear items like a Muslim head scarf, known as a hijab, and kara bangles, worn by Sikhs.

But, he said, he believed that such items were a religious requirement, while Ms. Playfoot’s ring was “just one of several methods of publicizing a specific view within the Christian faith.”

In an interview with BBC Television before the court hearing, Ms. Playfoot said the ring “says that I’m not going to have sex until I’m married and I’m going to stay sexually pure until I’m married.”

“In the Bible it says you should remain sexually pure,” she said, “and I think this is a way I want to express my faith.”

The ring is engraved with a reference to a biblical verse enjoining believers to “keep clear of sexual sin.”

Israel to Release Funds to Fatah, Hamas Founder Says “Thank You”

Monday, June 25th, 2007

OK, does anyone else have a problem with this? You should. Let me explain:
Last week we posted about weapons, purchased with aid money to the so-call “moderate” Fatah organization, falling to the hands of the radical “kill all Israelis” group, Hamas.
This week, as things continue to get crazier and crazier in the region of the world, we have Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, agreeing to release more aid funds to Fatah. At the same time, we have Mahmoud Zahar, a founder of Hamas, thanking the U.S. for cost of bullets, down from 3.50 Euros, to 35 cents per bullet.
Is there any doubt that anything given to the terrorist of Fatah will eventually end up in the hands of the even worse terrorist of Hamas? Not in my mind.
Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs had this to say:

It doesn’t matter how many times the strategy of arming Fatah to fight Hamas has failed. It doesn’t matter that Mahmoud Abbas openly stated, many times, that he would never act against Hamas. It doesn’t matter that Fatah “security” men turned tail and ran when Hamas staged their coup. And it doesn’t matter that Hamas is openly bragging that any aid money that goes to Fatah will end up in their hands.

It apparently doesn’t even matter that Fatah is still, on this very day, trying to murder random Israeli civilians: Fatah faction, Islamic Jihad claim Kassam attack.

A Fatah faction and the Islamic Jihad both claimed responsibility for Sunday morning’s Kassam rocket attack on Sderot, which damaged a home and left three people lightly wounded.

Ehud Olmert is going to hand over hundreds of millions of dollars to the terrorists: Israel agrees to release funds to Abbas.

It doesn’t take a genus to figure out what is going to happen here. It defies logic why Israel is putting themselves in an indefensible position. I understand why they are doing it, from a prophesy standpoint, but it still makes me sad for them.

Israel agrees to release funds to Abbas

JERUSALEM – Israel agreed Sunday to begin releasing hundreds of millions of dollars in frozen tax funds to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, a gesture to bolster the moderate Palestinian leader in his standoff against the Islamic militant group Hamas.

The decision came a day before Prime Minister Ehud Olmert heads to Egypt for a high-profile summit with Abbas, President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and Jordanian King Abdullah II.

The gathering is meant to give Abbas a high-profile display of support against Hamas, which violently seized control of the Gaza Strip in a bloody rout of Abbas’ Fatah movement earlier this month.

But Olmert cautioned against high expectations for the summit.

“We have an interest in having this meeting, but I don’t want anyone to think we’re on the brink of a dramatic breakthrough,” Olmert told his Cabinet, according to a meeting participant.

Abbas, however, said he received U.S. and Israeli assurances that Israel was ready to make progress at the summit. The Palestinian president, who met with King Abdullah II in Jordan, said he would ask Israel to free Palestinian prisoners, in addition to easing restrictions at crossing points and releasing the tax money, the official Jordanian news agency Petra reported.

Ismail Haniyeh, the deposed Palestinian prime minister, dismissed the summit as a “mirage,” saying resistance was the only hope for Palestinians.

“The Americans won’t give anything. Israel won’t give us anything. Our land, our nation will not come back to us except with steadfastness and resistance,” a code word for attacks against Israel, he said in Gaza.

The Palestinian infighting has left the Palestinians with two governments — Abbas’ new Cabinet in the West Bank, and the Hamas rulers in Gaza. Israel and moderate Arab leaders have joined to support Abbas and isolate Hamas, a radical group pledged to Israel’s destruction.

‘We Will Try to Form an Islamic Society’

Mahmoud Zahar — a founder of Hamas, and one of its most militant hardliners — has called for an Islamic state in the Gaza Strip. After the Hamas takeover of the territory last week, he’s also threatened Fatah with more violence in the West Bank.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Last week there were street battles in the West Bank between Fatah and Hamas militias. Fatah maintained the upper hand. How will Hamas loyalists defend themselves in the event of any new fighting?

Zahar: Let me ask you: How have we defended ourselves so far against the Israeli occupation?

SPIEGEL ONLINE: With bombs and attacks?

Zahar: Exactly. But you said that, not me.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: The split between Hamas and Fatah has never been wider. Are you still in contact with one another?

Zahar: Yes, we speak to each other. But we’re looking for the true Fatah so its members can take part in our new organization and plans for the future. The true, pure Fatah is the real loser (in this conflict) because its party in the West Bank is collaborating with Israel. In Gaza we have beaten those elements that collaborate with Israel. We have beaten everyone who represented an obstacle — the ones who wanted to keep us from defending ourselves.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: The militant wings of Fatah and Hamas have been fully armed over the last few months. Are these weapons still in circulation?

Zahar: There are naturally very many weapons around now. Two years ago, one bullet in Gaza cost around €3.50 — now it would cost 35 cents. The American aid money has been translated into weapons. Thank you, America!

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Isn’t such a large number of weapons in the hands of militias — some controllable, some not — a huge security risk? What would happen if splinter groups started to shoot at each other?

Zahar: So far we haven’t confiscated any weapons. If there are problems with splinter groups, we will disarm them and take the weapons for ourselves.

Jesus Walks on Water – A Bible Story Mural

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

“Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.
Matthew 14:22-36 (New International Version)

Palestinian Official: Women Must Martyr Themselves

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Pali Terrorist Leaders: “Now we know you are running away from us in droves, because you’re afraid we will kill you for now particular reason, but you still need to blow yourself up in the midst of innocent Israeli civilians, even though they are helping you and giving you refuge.
Is there no end to the pail’s ability to hate?

News stories of female suicide bombers – young women in the prime of life, sometimes pregnant or with their children – blowing up themselves and dozens of innocent bystanders with explosive belts, have shocked the world in recent months.

It’s well known that young Muslim men are taught they will be rewarded with 72 virgins in the afterlife. But what is the appeal of martyrdom to women?

A Palestinian member of parliament representing Hamas explained the answer on Al-Rafidein TV last Sunday.

Here, translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute, or MEMRI, are excerpts of what Al-Astal said about Muslim women’s “duty” to engage in violent jihad.

Yunis Al-Astal: “The most exalted form of jihad is fighting for the sake of Allah, which means sacrificing one’s soul by fighting the enemies head-on, even if it leads to martyrdom. Martyrdom means life next to Allah.

“… When jihad becomes an individual duty, it applies to women too, because women do not differ from men when it comes to individual duties. …”

Interviewer: “What are the purposes behind women’s participation in the jihad of conquest and invasions?”

Yunis Al-Astal: “I have mentioned some of these purposes. [Women] prepare food, they bring water, they tend to the wounded and convey them from the battlefield, they protect the [soldiers’] possessions, and so on. But in many cases, women participated in combat, especially if the Islamic army was weakening, and you could see that the enemy was about to gain the upper hand. In such cases, a woman would draw out her sword, or pull out a pole from her tent, and would resist to the best of her ability.

“… Let’s take another example. Safiyya, the aunt of the Prophet Muhammad, used a pole to kill a Jew in the Battle of the Trench. Likewise, in the Battle of Hunayn, Umm Sulaym had a dagger, and when asked about it, she said: ‘If an enemy of Allah comes near me, I shall stab him with this dagger.’ History has recorded, in shining letters, the fact that Al-Khansaa sacrificed her four children at the battle of Al-Qadisiyya. She inflamed their emotions and she herself incited them to fight until they attained their martyrdom, and then she thanked Allah for honoring her with the killing of them all.”

Full Hillary ‘Smoking Gun’ Video Released

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

The sleaziness of Bill Clinton apparently runs in the family. Read on, my friends, read on…

The full, five-minute videotape touted as “smoking gun evidence” of two felonies committed by Sen. Hillary Clinton has been released to WND.

As WND reported, the tape was submitted as evidence to a California appeals court yesterday in a civil fraud suit against the New York Democrat and her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

WND reported in April the tape indicates Clinton – despite denials throughout six years of investigation – was directly involved with business mogul Peter Franklin Paul in producing a lavish Hollywood fundraiser in August 2000 that eventually cost Paul nearly $2 million.

Clinton’s participation in the planning of the event would make Paul’s substantial contributions a direct donation to her Senate campaign rather than her joint fundraising committee, violating federal statutes that limit “hard money” contributions to a candidate to $2,000 per person. Knowingly accepting or soliciting $25,000 or more in a calendar year is a felony carrying a prison sentence of up to five years.

Paul’s complaint charges President Clinton destroyed his entertainment company to get out of a $17 million deal in which Clinton promised to promote the firm in exchange for stock, cash options and massive contributions to his wife’s 2000 campaign. Paul contends he was directed by the Clintons and Democratic Party leaders to foot the bill for the Hollywood event.

In the tape, Clinton is heard via speakerphone thanking Paul, business partner Stan Lee and other colleagues for their efforts in putting together the fundraiser.

She also describes the role of longtime aide Kelly Craighead as assisting in day-to-day involvement in preparation for the event as her liaison with Paul and his producers.

Craighead, Clinton says, “talks all the time” with Paul, “so she’ll be the person to convey whatever I need.”

The aide’s hands-on role is significant, because the law also implicates a candidate if any of his or her agents are involved in coordinating expenditures with a donor.

In another portion of the tape, Clinton is heard discussing her direct solicitation of a large contribution from the entertainer Cher. Paul’s legal team argues the value of Cher’s performance alone vastly exceeded the FEC limits.

The tape was one of 90 Paul was ordered to turn over to the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York in 2001 as part of the investigation in a related securities case against him. But it has never been used as evidence, despite its relevance to the key question of Sen. Clinton’s involvement in the Hollywood fundraiser.

Sen. Clinton has claimed through her spokesman Howard Wolfson that Paul gave no money to her campaign, and her supporters have denied she had any anything to do with coordinating the fund-raiser or soliciting contributions directly from donors.

Clinton’s campaign has counted the more than $800,000 of in-kind contributions it reported in a 2006 amended FEC report for the Hollywood Gala as indirect, or “soft money,” given to the New York Senate 2000 Committee, a state account that was run jointly by Clinton, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the New York State Democratic Party.

The Clintons’ longtime attorney David Kendall has not replied to WND’s request for comment on Paul’s videotape. Kendall previously has declined comment on the case, saying only to WND regarding the felony assertion, “Any such allegation is totally false and totally unsupported.”

Sex, Drugs and Alcohol Permeate Teens’ Online Chat, Study Says

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

This is why it is so important to know what your children and teens are looking at on the internet. Not only do most “photo blogs” and “personal webspace” reflect the sex, drugs and alcohol mantra, but teens fail to realize that everything they post is going out to an international audience and is permanent. Now by permanent, what I mean is that even if the material is taken down, someone, somewhere has downloaded this material. It is very possible that this material will come out sometime in the future.
In addition to the sex, drugs and alcohol, there is also the predator aspect.
Please, parents, know what your kids are doing on the internet.

(CNSNews.com) – Online message boards, forums, and social networks aimed at teens frequently feature posts in which youngsters discuss drug and alcohol use and associated sexual encounters, according to a report by a drug and alcohol rehabilitation organization.

The report by Caron Treatment Centers cited a survey of 10.3 million posts made by teenagers on popular sites such as Myspace.com, teenspot.com, and ym.com. Of these, 160,000 contained keywords that matched contemporary teenage slang vocabulary, catalogued by Caron.

The report said that 80 percent of the highlighted posts refer to alcohol, marijuana, cocaine and LSD use. In posts related to marijuana use, teens frequently related destructive behavior, including self-mutilation, conducted while under the influence.

Ten percent of messages that mentioned alcohol featured teens talking about drinking at parties. Women who posted alcohol-related messages talked more about sexual encounters while inebriated, where men more often shared stories about non-sexual activities while drunk.

Some forums also include topics relating to premarital sexual encounters, shaving pubic hair and pregnancy.

Dr. Harris Stratyner, regional vice president of Caron’s New York Recovery Center, told Cybercast News Service he believes such online chatter reflects both an established culture of drug use, and an incubator of further deviance.

“I hear in my practice a lot of teenagers speaking exactly in the way the study describes, but I also think that they’re being inculcated by information that is oftentimes incorrect on the Internet.”

Bob Walifzewski, a media specialist with Focus on the Family, said he believes many teenagers are inspired by popular music artists to consume drugs, “Many kids may say, ‘I know what my parents have said about [doing drugs], but, wow, this looks really fun!”

He added that online questionnaires on teen websites asking how often respondents have used drugs or alcohol may pressure teens to engage in that behavior. “Parents would be up in arms if they knew what their children had publicly said [online].”

“It’s not surprising that teens discuss among themselves subjects which they may be uncomfortable discussing with parents, or about which they disagree with the adult perspectives they’ve heard,” said Bruce Mirken of the Marijuana Policy Project, which advocates removing criminal penalties for marijuana use – although not for teens – told Cybercast News Service.

Recently, law enforcement officials were reported to be monitoring photos and material posted on the discussion boards of facebook.com, in efforts to deter illegal drug and alcohol consumption.

Facebook.com is a popular website used mostly by college students and high schoolers. Registered members can place personal information in their profiles, post pictures, talk to others in discussion pages, and create common-interest groups.

Facebook members frequently post pictures of themselves consuming alcohol and encourage their friends to do likewise. Some postings encourage cannabis culture, and some users have also announced that their sexual encounters were facilitated by Facebook’s networking capabilities.

Though representatives from ym, Facebook, and teenspot did not return requests for comment by press time, they do have mechanisms for monitoring and moderating user comments. “Please use good judgment and taste when posting your messages,” ym asks its members. “This is a community, and you’re a member of it.”

Facebook provides a link for users to flag objectionable content and alert the site’s administrators. Other websites and forums hire moderators to enforce the policy and standards of their administrators.

But Stratyner said that is not enough.

“We need to focus more on what teens are teaching other kids,” he said. “I don’t think these monitors are doing an effective enough job. I haven’t seen anything in the study that would say [the efforts at topic moderation] are adequate.”

Stratyner said parents are not knowledgeable enough of how their children interact with their friends and peers through technology.

The ease of Internet access has become the hallmark of the millennial generation, he said, along with “the ability to spread information to wider and wider circles with unsupervised eyes.”

“Perhaps the most important thing that parents can do is to communicate with their kids honestly and make sure they have accurate information,” said Mirkin. “Parents certainly have a right and duty to be concerned and to try to keep their teens safe.”

Walifzewski, added, “The ‘Just Say No’ years of Nancy Reagan are over … kids have always been sneaky, and will for all eternity continue to be sneaky. But parents have to be parents [and set] some very clear boundaries when it comes to 21st century technology that influences our kids.”

“The forgotten victims of Planned Parenthood” by Michelle Malkin

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

What kind of a person would wear a “I had an abortion” t-shirt?

Not everyone gets to walked out of the clinic with the “I had an abortion” t-shirt and a smile on her face. The San Jose Mercury News reports today that the mother of a young woman who died at a Riverside, Calif., Planned Parenthood clinic has sued the abortion provider blaming malpractice for her daughter’s toxic shock syndrome death:

Aletheia Meloncon filed the Superior Court lawsuit this week, claiming her daughter Edrica Goode, 21, died Feb. 14 because cervical dilators used in advance of second-trimester abortions were left in too long.

Goode allegedly went to a Planned Parenthood clinic in Riverside for an abortion on Jan. 31 and a nurse inserted the dilators, which are usually left in overnight before an abortion.

The suit said Goode, who didn’t return to the clinic to have the dilators removed, had an infection and the dilators became a conduit, spreading it throughout her body.

“My daughter made a choice, but she didn’t choose to die,” Meloncon said. “A lost dog gets more attention than my daughter did. This has really torn at my family.”

She is not alone:

Vince Hall, director of communications for Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside counties, refused to comment on the lawsuit to the Times and claimed that the “health and safety of our patients is our highest priority.”

However, Goode is the third woman to die at Planned Parenthood abortion centers in the last four years.

The first was Holly Patterson, an 18 year-old from Livermore who died after she received a lethal bacterial infection after using the abortion drug she obtained at Planned Parenthood Golden Gate. Diana Lopez, a 25-year-old Huntington Park woman, bled to death after an abortion she had punctured her cervix.

Will the predators of Planned Parenthood get away with it again? Not if Aletheia Meloncon can help it.

Iran ‘Unable to Take Australians’

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Even if they don’t want to admit it, many U.K. citizens look down on the Aussies. They find them to be “crass”, “difficult” and “uncivilized”.
In an article in the BBC this morning, we find out that the Iranians had attempted to capture an Australian boarding team before their successful attempt on a British boarding team.
Apparently being “crass”, “difficult” and “uncivilized” was exactly what was needed to avoid being wrongly captured, imprisoned and paraded by a terrorist nation with a madman leader.
We could all take lessons from the Aussies.

Iranian naval forces in the Gulf tried to capture an Australian Navy boarding team but were vigorously repelled, the BBC has learned.

The incident took place before Iran successfully seized 15 British sailors and Marines in March.

The lessons from the earlier attempt do not appear to have been applied in time by British maritime patrols.

The 15 Britons were searching a cargo boat in the Gulf when they were captured over a boundary dispute.

‘Having none of it’

When Iranian Revolutionary Guards captured the British sailors and Royal Marines in March, it was not exactly their first attempt.

It turns out that Iranian forces made an earlier concerted attempt to seize a boarding party from the Royal Australian Navy.

The Australians, though, to quote one military source, “were having none of it”.

The BBC has been told the Australians re-boarded the vessel they had just searched, aimed their machine guns at the approaching Iranians and warned them to back off, using what was said to be “highly colourful language”.

The Iranians withdrew, and the Australians were reportedly lifted off the ship by one of their own helicopters.

The circumstances for the Britons in March were slightly different in that they were caught so much by surprise that, had they attempted to repel the Iranians with their limited firepower, they would doubtless have taken very heavy casualties.

But military sources say that what is of concern is that the Royal Navy did not appear to have taken sufficient account of the lessons of the Australian encounter.

In an oblique reference to the threat from Iran, Britain’s First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Jonathon Band, has recently admitted there was a need for greater strategic awareness in the northern Gulf.
