‘John Doe’ Amendment: Still Not Dead

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM

I Am John Doe - Sue Me!

There may still be a chance that the “John Doe” amendment will be attached to the Homeland Security funding bill, despite efforts by the Democrats. Let your congress people know that you support this amendment, and that you will be angry with them if they don’t.

WASHINGTON — A provision aimed at providing whistleblower protection to Americans who report suspicious activity has advanced on Capitol Hill despite opposition from some Democrats, as top Republicans announced an agreement last night.

The House Republican leader, Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, and Rep. Peter King, a Republican of Long Island, said last night that they had reached agreement to include what has become known as the “John Doe” amendment in the final version of a major homeland security bill to implement the recommendations of the commission established to investigate the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The bill is currently in a House-Senate conference committee, and a deal will be announced today.

The homeland security legislation mandates tighter inspections on cargo coming into America on passenger planes and ships, and it could help direct more anti-terror funds to New York by adjusting the funding formulas in favor of high-risk areas.

Disagreement over the “John Doe” amendment had been the last sticking point of the broader legislation, which the Democrats had pegged as one of their top priorities in taking control of Congress this year.

Mr. King first introduced the amendment earlier this year after the Council on American-Islamic Relations filed a lawsuit on behalf of six imams who were removed from a US Airways flight in November over allegations of suspicious activity.

The measure would offer civil immunity protections to individuals who tip off the police to such activity.

The amendment won House approval in March and a majority of senators, including Senators Schumer and Clinton of New York, supported a similar measure sponsored by Senator Collins, a Republican of Maine, when she tried to attach it to an education bill last week. But it fell three votes shy of the 60 it needed to pass.

Some Democrats had raised civil liberties concerns, saying the legislation would lead to unfair targeting of people based on their appearance, religion, or ethnicity.

The measure has gained momentum, however, amid the recent reports of terrorist plots, including one to attack Fort Dix in New Jersey in May and another, more recently, to blow up fuel tanks at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

A leading Republican presidential candidate, Mayor Giuliani, is also weighing in. In a statement yesterday, he criticized Democrats who opposed it, saying they “just don’t get the terrorists’ war on us.”

He also praised Mr. King, who has endorsed his candidacy as someone who puts “national security first and political correctness run amok second.”

Victory! The King Amendment is saved!

(Washington, D.C.): The Center for Security Policy is gratified that its efforts, those of innumerable bloggers, radio talk show hosts and other public-minded citizens translated into an important legislative victory late last night. Thanks to the leadership of Sens. Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins, the chairman and ranking minority member, respectively, of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and especially that of Rep. Pete King, Sen. Collins’ counterpart on the House Homeland Security Committee, legislation along the lines of that adopted by an overwhelming bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives last May at Rep. King’s initiative will shortly become law.

The language will provide protection against the sorts of harassment lawsuits filed by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) after several unidentified individuals reported six Muslim imams engaged in suspicious – and frightening – behavior prior to boarding a USAir flight in November 2006. CAIR has been identified as a front organization for the Muslim Brotherhood and is an un-indicted co-conspirator in an alleged terrorism-financing plot.

Airports Warned About Terror Dry Runs

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

These would be the Islamic terrorist, who are sworn to kill you and me, making dry runs at U.S. airports, to test the abilities of the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) employees.
The report, which lacked a lot of details, talked about things like blocks of cheese, with wires running from them (block cheese has a density similar to plastic explosives) and cell phones taped to blocks of cheese, things like that.
Are people being overcautious and silly? Considering just how fanatical these Islamic terrorist are concerning bering about our pending deaths, I’d say not.

Michelle Malkin said it well:

Every vigilant traveler–every once and future John Doe–should take a look at the TSA warning. And if you see something cheesy, say something. At the very least, you’ll offend a cheddar-lover. At best, you could save thousands of lives. Quite worth the risk, I think.

See the rest of her post, with photos, at “Blocks of cheese with wires sticking out”.

Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs makes this point:

So they noticed four of these rehearsals. How many incidents did the geniuses of the TSA fail to notice? We have no way of knowing, of course.
Don’t panic. This happens all the time. Just roll over, and go back to sleep.

Charles is known for his sarcastic remarks, especially when people say really silly things. He also post of a security director at Sky Harbor International Airport who was “placed on leave” after a major security hole was noted at that airport.
Read his post here: “TSA Warns Airport Security About ‘Dry Runs'”.

WASHINGTON – Airport security officers around the nation have been alerted by federal officials to look out for terrorists practicing to carry explosive components onto aircraft, based on four curious seizures at airports since last September.

The unclassified alert was distributed on July 20 by the Transportation Security Administration to federal air marshals, its own transportation security officers and other law enforcement agencies.

The seizures at airports in San Diego, Milwaukee, Houston and Baltimore included “wires, switches, pipes or tubes, cell phone components and dense clay-like substances,” including block cheese, the bulletin said. “The unusual nature and increase in number of these improvised items raise concern.”

Security officers were urged to keep an eye out for “ordinary items that look like improvised explosive device components.”

The 13-paragraph bulletin was posted on the Internet by NBC Nightly News, which first reported the story.

A federal official familiar with the document confirmed the authenticity of the NBC posting but declined to be identified by name because it has not been officially released.

“There is no credible, specific threat here,” TSA spokeswoman Ellen Howe said Tuesday. “Don’t panic. We do these things all the time.”

Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke described the notice as the latest copy of a routine informational bulletin for TSA workers, airport employees and law enforcement officials.

A statement posted late Tuesday by the TSA on its Web site confirmed that “a routine TSA intelligence bulletin relating to suspicious incidents at U.S. airports” had leaked to news organizations. The statement added, “During the past six months TSA has produced more than 90 unclassified bulletins of this nature on a wide variety of security-related subjects.”

The bulletin said the a joint FBI-Homeland Security Department assessment found that terrorists have conducted probes, dry runs and dress rehearsals in advance of previous attacks.

It cited various types of rehearsals conducted by terrorists before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon; the July 7, 2005, London subway bombings; the Aug. 2, 2006, London-based plot to blow up trans-Atlantic flights using liquid explosives and the 1994 Bojinka plot in the Philippines to blow up multiple airliners over the Pacific Ocean.

The bulletin said the passengers carrying the suspicious items seized since September included men and women and that initial investigation had not linked them with criminal or terrorist organizations. But it added that most of their explanations for carrying the items were suspicious and some were still under investigation.

The four seizures were described this way:

• San Diego, July 7. A U.S. person — either a citizen or a foreigner legally here — checked baggage containing two ice packs covered in duct tape. The ice packs had clay inside them rather than the normal blue gel.

• Milwaukee, June 4. A U.S. person’s carryon baggage contained wire coil wrapped around a possible initiator, an electrical switch, batteries, three tubes and two blocks of cheese. The bulletin said block cheese has a consistency similar to some explosives.

• Houston, Nov. 8, 2006. A U.S. person’s checked baggage contained a plastic bag with a 9-volt battery, wires, a block of brown clay-like minerals and pipes.

• Baltimore, Sept. 16, 2006. A couple’s checked baggage contained a plastic bag with a block of processed cheese taped to another plastic bag holding a cellular phone charger.

Taliban Hostage Deadline Looms: South Korean Christians Face Death

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

We need to continue to pray for Christians who face very real and deadly persecution for their faith. As usual, Islam seems to be the root of the problem.

Michelle Malkin has more:

Update 11:40am Eastern. Taliban wants an 8-for-8 hostages for jailed jihadis trade.

I know I shouldn’t been stunned by the lack of attention being paid to this story, but I am. The 23 South Korean Christians, including 18 women, kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan are scheduled to be put to death tonight. The hostages are mostly medical workers and teachers. The ultimatum has been pushed back three times now:

Qari Yousef Ahmadi, who claims to speak for the Taliban, said the militants had extended the deadline on the fate of the kidnapped South Koreans another day after the Afghan government refused to release any of the 23 Taliban prisoners the insurgents want freed. The militants have pushed back their ultimatum at least three times.

The Independent reports on the underground Afghan Christian movement. Apostates, as you’ll remember from the Abdul Rahman case, are subject to the death penalty for abandoning Islam:

The kidnapping of South Korean church volunteers by the Taliban has sparked vigils in Seoul, and shone the spotlight on Afghanistan’s small, underground Christian community. In Mazar-e-Sharif, home to one of Islam’s most revered shrines, Ahmedi, 33, says he would be killed instantly if his faith were exposed. In this staunchly traditional society, conversion from Islam remains reviled by many Afghans – and by government officials. “If the war had not happened, if the Americans and foreigners had not come to Afghanistan, we would not have this freedom and we would not have this office,” says Ahmedi, who was fearful of giving his full name. The “office” is a community centre set up by a Christian charity, and Ahmedi is one of 100 or so Christians living in the northern city.Rumours abound here that many aid organisations are used as a cover by foreigners to indoctrinate people into Christianity. And in Ahmedi’s case, there is an element of truth – he converted from Shia Islam three years ago after meeting an American evangelical. Now his wife and four children are also Christian, and he is the priest of a local church. He has even helped convert other Afghans.

The 23 South Koreans were kidnapped last week at gunpoint from a bus in Ghazni province, and belong to the Saemmul Church in Bundang, which says they are working as volunteer nurses and English teachers. However, boasts from some evangelical church leaders in South Korea about unofficially sending missionaries to Afghanistan has muddied the water between Christian volunteers doing humanitarian work, and those whose primary mission is to seek converts overseas.

In Mazer-e-Sharif, a recent convert called Abdullah recalled how his family reacted when he revealed his change of faith. “When I received Jesus, I went to my house and I didn’t say prayers any more like other Muslims,” he said. “One night my father asked me to get up and pray, but I told him I can’t. He asked me why, and I told him I was a Christian. He started to fight with me.”

Abdullah’s parents have come to accept his religion, but his oldest brother continues to ostracise him, and most other people do not even know he has converted. “If I go out and say I am a Christian they will curse me, hit me and kill me,” he said, matter of factly…Despite the dangers they face, Afghan Christians refuse to give in to the fear that they will be found out. “If I am afraid I will never receive Jesus,” said Abdullah.

As of 8:30am, there is nothing on the front page of the Human Rights Watch website about the plight of the South Korean Christian volunteers. Instead, the lead story is an article lambasting U.S. mandatory deportation laws regarding convicted criminal aliens. I kid you not.

Update: Reader Ken writes that he lived in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan “for most of 2002 and the Christian Charity there is called ‘Samaritan’s Purse’ based in North Carolina. They did wonderful things with very few resources unlike much better-funded organizations like ‘Save the Children.’ I am not surprised to hear they’ve converted 100 Muslims to Christianity as they simply do good things everyday. They give out shoes and food to the endless orphans abandoned by Islam to the backdrop of their revered ‘Blue Mosque.’ I specifically remember ‘Nina’ bravely walking through the streets of MeS (that what we called Mazar-i-Sharif) minus even her head scarf. Men glared at her but she was very strong and carried herself with the full knowledge men can only kill her body but not her spirit.”

Seattle Airport Officials Propose Ban on ‘Religious’ Christmas Decorations

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

They just don’t get it. I’ll say it yet again…it is not against the law to show religious decorations in public.

Unless history repeats itself, Christmas may be canceled at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport as holiday decorations are once again the subject of a proposed ban.

The Port of Seattle’s Holiday Decorations Advisory Committee says the airport should be decorated for Christmas this year, but without any religious symbols. Last December, nine trees decorated with red ribbons and bows were removed after a rabbi threatened to sue unless a menorah was added. However, the trees were put back on display after the rabbi said he never wanted them removed.

Mat Staver is founder of Liberty Counsel, which intervened in the dispute last year. He says legal action may be necessary again. “Obviously, Liberty Counsel will get involved as we did last year with this airport,” the attorney explains. “We sent a letter [last year] demanding that they return the Christmas decorations to the airport — and with the public outcry, the airport did. This year, obviously, we’re back to the battleground again, and we’re certainly going to go to bat for protecting Christmas.”

Staver says it is absurd that government officials in Seattle are once again trying to censor Christmas in public. “I think it’s ridiculous in a country where we have December 25 as a state and federal holiday to celebrate and honor Christmas — something that’s rooted in the history of America — that governmental entities would come to censor it out,” he says.

Staver predicts that legal action is likely if the panel does not revamp its proposal to accommodate religious symbols.

“A Climate of Greed Never Changes” from Overlawyered

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

As if the sue happy, “something for nothing”, “entitled” people of this country will actually do the right thing. I’m sure they will sue as long as the day is long.

Among the nightmare scenarios of global warming, there’s one only now coming into view – and it’s definitely manmade: As predictable as the rising seas, we can expect a flood of class-action lawsuits trying to cash in on the issue.

Climate change promises to be “a lucrative new field” for the tort bar reports the Newark Star-Ledger. A Rutgers law professor predicts that global warming will make for “one of the biggest legal practices in the next 20 years.” (The Star-Ledger, 7/8/07)

The opinion is shared by the president of the World Resources Institute: “Companies that generate significant carbon emissions,” he warns, “face the threat of lawsuits similar to those common in the tobacco, pharmaceutical and asbestos industries.” (The Toronto Star, 4/29/07)

And if you thought asbestos and tobacco litigation were profitable, try to imagine all the “mass tort” cases that global warming will inspire. Energy companies, coal mines, any firm at all that generates carbon dioxide – these industries and many more can expect to find themselves accused of causing climate change.

Some law firms already have “climate-change groups” studying the possibilities. Another hint of things to come was a class action suit was filed on behalf of Mississippi residents against oil and coal companies after Hurricane Katrina – arguing that company emissions caused the climate change that caused the hurricane. (Star-Ledger, 7/8/07).

In Alaska, the Inuits claim that their island is sinking because of global warming. The aggrieved islanders haven’t decided who to sue yet – but they’ve got a Houston trial lawyer working on it. (Star-Ledger, 7/8/07)

All of which proves nothing at all about the actual causes or dangers of global warming. It’s just more evidence of a climate of greed and opportunism in the trial bar. And that’s one climate that never changes.

New Haven First City in U.S. to Offer ID Cards to Illegal Immigrants

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

I’ve said it before, and I’m sure I’ll say it again…what part of “illegal” are people having a problem understanding??

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — This city is becoming the first in the nation to offer identification cards to illegal immigrants, trying to bring them out of the shadows even as many municipalities crack down on them.

Beginning Tuesday, New Haven will offer the ID cards to all of its 125,000 residents, including some 10,000 to 12,000 illegal immigrants.

The cards will allow immigrants to open bank accounts and use other services that may be unavailable without driver’s licenses or state-issued IDs. If they can open bank accounts, immigrants will be less likely to carry large amounts of cash, a practice that makes them easy targets for robbers.

City officials say the cards will also encourage immigrants who are crime victims or witnesses to cooperate with police.

“The simple straightforward purpose here is to build a stronger community,” Mayor John DeStefano said Monday. “You can’t police a community of people who won’t talk to our cops.”

Opponents say the cards will encourage more illegal immigration.

“It’s going to be a welcome mat for illegal aliens to come to the region, flood the labor market and dry up working-class and middle-class jobs,” said Bill Farrel, coordinator of the Southern Connecticut Immigration reform.

DeStefano said that wasn’t true.

“Work draws it, not a piece of plastic,” the mayor said.

He said the federal government has failed to address immigration-related issues, forcing cities to find ways to manage them.

The ID cards stand in contrast to new laws or proposals in more than 90 cities or counties around the nation prohibiting landlords from leasing to illegal immigrants, penalizing businesses that employ them or training police to enforce immigration laws.

New Haven already offers federal tax help to immigrants and prohibits police from asking about their immigration status. The new ID cards cost $5 for children and $10 for adults.

Days after city officials approved the program, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents conducted raids that led to about 30 arrests. City officials said the raids appeared to be retaliatory, but ICE officials have said the raids had nothing to do with the city’s approval of the ID program.

They would not comment on the prospects of more raids.

“ICE is mandated by Congress to enforce a wide range of immigration and customs laws and we will continue to enforce those laws in Connecticut and throughout the U.S.,” the agency said in a statement.

DeStefano acknowledged that some immigrants may be reluctant to apply for an ID card because of the raids, but predicted most will still seek the ID cards.

Junta For Progressive Action, an advocacy group for Latinos, quickly ran out of 50 applications for the cards on Friday, executive director Sarahi Almonte said.

“The benefits outweigh the risks,” she said.

“Forgetting Pearl Harbor” by Jack Kinsella

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

On December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese government launched a sneak attack against the United States, striking without warning and scoring a devastating blow against a nation that thought it was at peace. When asked what he thought the Japanese sneak attack against the US Sixth Fleet had accomplished for the Japanese Imperial war effort, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto offered a surprisingly glum assessment.

It was surprising because the Imperial Japanese Navy had scored an uncompromising victory.

The Japanese strike force had succeeded in destroying five battleships, a minelayer, and had sunk or severely damaged three battleships. One hundred and eighty-eight aircraft were destroyed on the ground, and the US Navy suffered 2,333 dead and 1,139 wounded.

By contrast, Japan’s losses were negligible: five midget subs, 29 aircraft and 64 men. Instead of jumping for joy at the victory, Yamamoto said instead, “I fear that all we have accomplished is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

On December 7, 1941, the United States was nowhere near ready for war. It’s fleet was antiquated, its military forces were still at peacetime levels, it had no air force to speak of, and those forces that it did have were poorly equipped.

Some new recruits, in the first few months following the attacks, trained using wooden rifles and mock weapons because there weren’t enough to go around.

But Yamamoto was right. The battle cry, “Remember Pearl Harbor” struck deep into the hearts of every American, and the “terrible resolve” it imbued resulted in the utter destruction of the Japanese war machine just over three and a half years later.

On September 11, 2001, forces loyal to Islam launched a sneak attack against US civilian targets within the homeland, using US civilian aircraft as improvised bombs.

Both of the towers of the World Trade Center were destroyed: the 110 story structures collapsed from the heat of the fires, killing 2,752 innocent American civilians — an even greater death toll than those lost at Pearl Harbor.

A second attack, this one launched against the heart of the US military in the heart of the American capital, destroyed a significant part of the Pentagon’s outer wall and killed another 189 Americans.

And yet a third attack, this one aimed at the US Capitol Building, or perhaps the White House, was thwarted by the passengers aboard Flight 93, who forced that plane down into a farmer’s field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

In total, 2, 974 Americans died on September 11, 2001. Unlike Isoroku Yamamoto, the mastermind of this attack, Osama bin-Laden, danced with glee.

In a grainy videotape smuggled out of Afghanistan months later, Osama is chortling about how pleased he was at the carnage, which he said was much greater than he had expected.

Osama bragged that he inflicted that carnage with only 19 losses to his side, most of whom, Osama chuckled, didn’t know they were on a suicide mission until after the planes had taken off.

Osama had no fear of having ‘awakened a sleeping giant’. And he had already long before reached the conclusion that American resolve was a myth.

It will be six years this September since 19 hijackers armed with box knives killed more Americans than the fleet of 20 Japanese ships of the Imperial Navy inflicted at Pearl Harbor.

As Osama expected, the sleeping giant quickly rolled over and went back to sleep. American resolve evaporated as quickly the Democrat’s promises not to politicize the war for partisan purposes.

Within months, Democrats were solemnly declaring the war in Afghanistan was a “quagmire” and that George Bush had “dragged the nation into another Vietnam.”

Teddy Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, the New York Times, etc., were all reminding us that Afghanistan defeated the mighty Soviet Union after a twelve year conflict and prognosticating that same fate for America.

When that prediction failed to materialize, they dusted off the same rhetoric, replacing “Afghanistan” with “Iraq.”

Three and a half years after the fall of Saddam, (about the same length of time necessary to destroy the Imperial Japanese war machine) the Democrats in Congress forced an all-night debate over the issue of surrendering — to the same al-Qaeda terrorists that attacked us on 9/11.

Colin Powell, in a National Public Radio interview, predicted current U.S. troop levels can’t be sustained past the middle of 2008.

“We have to get us out of a middle of a civil war,” said Joe Biden. The debate was over a bill that would require the US to begin to withdraw its forces from Iraq within 120 days, finishing the withdrawal by April 30, 2008, leaving al-Qaeda’s forces in possession of the battlefield.

“We can’t win,” says Senators Carl Levin and Jack Reed. “We’ve already lost,” moans Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. “President Bush has embroiled us in a quagmire!” the Democrats chant in unison.

“This bill will deprive us of the opportunity to destroy the American forces which we have caught in a historic trap,” lamented Democratic ally, Ayman al Zawahiri.

Pearl Harbor? Pearl Harbor? Isn’t that a beach somewhere in Hawaii?

Youth Hockey Coach, Former Deputy Nabbed In Sex Sting

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

For those who think we do not have a problem with pornography and sexual predators in this country, think again.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Polk County deputies and state investigators arrested 22 men for allegedly using the Internet to solicit sex with children. Among those arrested in the undercover sting were a youth hockey coach and a former Marion County deputy.

Polk County deputies and state investigators set up shop at a house, went online and pretended to be children. More than 20 men thought they were going to meet kids for sex, but instead they met up with deputies.

The sting was called “Operation Guardian.” Polk County investigators, pretending to be girls between the ages of 13 and 15, began a series of online chats with numerous men. With surveillance cameras rolling, deputies watched as suspect after suspect arrived, thinking they were going to have sex with children.

“They lie to us. They tell us such stories, like they came to take the child out to explain how dangerous this is. We all know that isn’t true,” said Sheriff Grady Judd of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Among the men arrested were 22-year-old Nathan Galbraith, a youth hockey coach from Orlando, 42-year-old David Ronan, a former volunteer Osceola County firefighter, and 51-year-old Joseph Cioffi, a Department of Homeland Security employee at Orlando International Airport who used to be a Marion County deputy.

Deputies also arrested 59-year-old Arthur Auld, of The Villages. He’s a registered sex offender in Ohio and told investigators he was about to go a mission trip with kids from the Eagle’s Nest Baptist Church in Fruitland Park.

“This is shocking. It absolutely is frightening that the people we trust to keep our children safe are violating the law,” Judd said.

The sting was the third such operation in Polk County and deputies said the numbers of arrests are increasing. Despite heavy media coverage, these operations are yielding more and more suspects looking to take advantage of children.

“We are going to continue these operations. We will lock these predators up in jail and we mean for them to go to prison for a long time,” Judd added.

Deputies also arrested a man who rented strollers at Universal Studios. One man even paid $75 to travel from the Rosen Plaza to Polk County to meet with a child. Among other things, all of the suspects face charges for soliciting a minor via the Internet and attempted lewd battery.

Judge Drops Rape Charges Against Liberian Over Lack of Interpreter

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

This is one of those “over ride the brain and common sense” moments in our defunct judicial system. Sure, let’s put a rapist back on the streets because no one speaks Liberian, his native language. Let’s also forget the fact that he speaks English!!

ROCKVILLE, Md. — The prosecutor in the case of a Liberian native charged with repeatedly raping and molesting a 7-year-old girl said Monday that he is filing an appeal of a controversial judge’s ruling that dismissed all charges because an interpreter who spoke the suspect’s rare West African dialect could not be found.

Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy called the ruling last Tuesday by Judge Katherine Savage “improper,” adding that his office has “requested that an appeal be taken to reverse the court’s order.”

Savage ruled on July 17 that Mahamu Kanneh, a Liberian who received asylum in the U.S. and attended high school and community college here, was denied a speedy trial after three years awaiting a court-appointed interpreter who could speak the tribal language of Vai. Linguists estimate that only 100,000 people speak Vai.

Savage called her decision one of the most difficult she’s had to make in a long time, especially since she was aware of “the gravity of this case and the community’s concern about offenses of this type.”

Det. Omar Hasan wrote in the charging document that the victim “attempted to physically stop the behavior from the defendant, but was unsuccessful,” the Washington Post reported. Kanneh threatened the young girl “with not being able to leave the apartment unless she engaged in sexual behavior with the defendant,” Hasan wrote in his report.

McCarthy charged the delays cited in Savage’s order to dismiss the “result of the court locating a qualified interpreter,” and not the fault of the prosecutor.

“The fact is on four separate occasions this court provided Vai interpreters,” McCarthy said, adding that one of the interpreters had agreed to participate in further proceedings.

Court records, meanwhile, show that an interpreter was “sworn” by a Maryland court on the same day Savage dismissed the case, FOXNews.com has learned.

Loretta Knight, a clerk with the court system in Montgomery County, Md., claimed she had been unable to find an interpreter to stay on the case, even after an exhaustive search that included the Liberian Embassy and courts in 47 states.

But a look at the court docket for July 17, the day the case was dismissed, shows the entry “Interpreter sworn.” Several items below in the docket, Judge Savage “grants defendant’s oral motion to dismiss case based on a speedy trial violation.”

A review by FOX News of the audio from that hearing shows, however, that an interpreter was present throughout the entire court proceeding, during which time Kanneh’s lawyer, Theresa Chernosky, argued that her client had not been able to get a good job because of unresolved rape charges.

Chernosky is heard also telling Savage that her client works at a gas station, and has not signed up for school because of the uncertainty about his future.

The translator can be heard throughout the entire hearing.

Savage, however, notes to that the events in the case were “unforeseeable, truly difficult in terms of the interpreter issue.”

She then tells the court that “in spite of herculean efforts on the part of the state’s attorney … time has become the enemy.”

“What we come back to, then … too much time has passed, is that it’s the defendant who hold speedy trial rights.”

The Washington Post reported, however, that Kanneh had waived his rights to a speedy trial.

Why Savage dismissed the case when records indicate an interpreter had been sworn is just one of several questions raised by an examination of records by FOXNews.com.

Tisha B’Av, Israel, Mourn the Holy Temple of Jerusalem

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

The Lord has rejected his altar
and abandoned his sanctuary.
He has handed over to the enemy
the walls of her palaces;
they have raised a shout in the house of the LORD
as on the day of an appointed feast.

Lamentations 2:7 (New International Version)

Tisha B’Av (Hebrew: תשעה באב or ט׳ באב), or the Ninth of Av, is an annual fast day in Judaism. Its name denotes the ninth day (Tish’a) of the Jewish month of Av, which falls in July or August. It has been called the “saddest day in Jewish history”.
Tisha B’Av From Wikipedia.

After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time—if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol, doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God and provoking him to anger, I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you this day that you will quickly perish from the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess. You will not live there long but will certainly be destroyed. The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which the LORD will drive you. There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell. But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him. For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers, which he confirmed to them by oath.

The Lord Is God
Ask now about the former days, long before your time, from the day God created man on the earth; ask from one end of the heavens to the other. Has anything so great as this ever happened, or has anything like it ever been heard of? Has any other people heard the voice of God speaking out of fire, as you have, and lived? Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation, by testings, by miraculous signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, or by great and awesome deeds, like all the things the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes?

You were shown these things so that you might know that the LORD is God; besides him there is no other. From heaven he made you hear his voice to discipline you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire. Because he loved your forefathers and chose their descendants after them, he brought you out of Egypt by his Presence and his great strength, to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you and to bring you into their land to give it to you for your inheritance, as it is today.

Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the LORD your God gives you for all time.
Deuteronomy 4:25-40 (New International Version)

The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread, and he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.

And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.

Many of them will stumble; they will fall and be broken, they will be snared and captured.”

Bind up the testimony and seal up the law among my disciples.

I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob.

I will put my trust in him.

Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.

When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.

Isaiah 9
To Us a Child Is Born
Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan-

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing the plunder.

For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.

Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.

He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.

The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

The Lord ‘s Anger Against Israel
The Lord has sent a message against Jacob; it will fall on Israel.

All the people will know it—Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria—who say with pride and arrogance of heart, “The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the fig trees have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.”

But the LORD has strengthened Rezin’s foes against them and has spurred their enemies on.

Arameans from the east and Philistines from the west have devoured Israel with open mouth.

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.

But the people have not returned to him who struck them, nor have they sought the LORD Almighty.

So the LORD will cut off from Israel both head and tail, both palm branch and reed in a single day; the elders and prominent men are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail.

Those who guide this people mislead them, and those who are guided are led astray.

Therefore the Lord will take no pleasure in the young men, nor will he pity the fatherless and widows, for everyone is ungodly and wicked, every mouth speaks vileness.

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.

Surely wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briers and thorns, it sets the forest thickets ablaze, so that it rolls upward in a column of smoke.

By the wrath of the LORD Almighty the land will be scorched and the people will be fuel for the fire; no one will spare his brother.

On the right they will devour, but still be hungry; on the left they will eat, but not be satisfied.

Each will feed on the flesh of his own offspring:

Manasseh will feed on Ephraim, and Ephraim on Manasseh; together they will turn against Judah.

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.
Isaiah 8:13-9:23 (New International Version)

HaShem our G-d, console the mourners of Zion and the mourners of Jerusalem, and the city that is mournful, destroyed, shamed, and desolate. Mournful without her children, destroyed without her residences, shamed without her honor, and desolate without inhabitant. She sits with her head covered, like a barren woman who does not give birth. She has been devoured by the legions, and conquered by the worshipers of foreign powers, and they put your people, Israel, to the sword and willfully murdered the devout [servants] of the High One. Therefore Zion cries bitterly, and Jerusalem raises her voice, “My heart! My heart [aches] on the slain! My stomach! My stomach [aches] on the slain!” For You, HaShem, with fire you burned her, and with fire you will rebuild her, as it is said, “And I will be for her, says HaShem, a wall of fire around her, and I will be a glory within her.”(Zechariah 2:9) Blessed are You, HaShem, Who consoles Zion and builds Jerusalem.

Christians, join me in praying for G-d’s Chosen People, the Jews and His Nation, Israel, that He will protect them, guide them and save them. Ask for His Blessings on His Chosen Ones.

US – Iran Talks Set for Tomorrow

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Can anyone say “Waste of time”? There is no such thing as a civil discussion with these people. Time to stop talking and act before they take action against Israel.

The United States and Iran have set a date for ambassador-level talks in Baghdad on the deteriorating security situation in Iraq—the first such meeting since late May, U.S. and Iraqi officials said Sunday.
The two sides will sit down together on Tuesday, according to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari and U.S. Embassy spokesman Philip Reeker, amid U.S. allegations that Tehran is supporting violent Shiite militias in the country.

Zebari told The Associated Press by telephone that the discussions would be at the ambassadorial level and would focus on the situation in Iraq, not U.S.-Iran tensions.

Iraq’s fragile government has been pressing for another meeting between the two nations with the greatest influence over its future, and Iran has repeatedly signaled its willingness to sit down. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said last week that Washington was also ready to hold new talks with Iran on the security situation in Iraq.

The May 28 meeting marked a break in a 27-year diplomatic freeze between the U.S. and Iran and was expected to have been followed within a month by a second encounter. But following that meeting, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other U.S. officials said Iran had not scaled back what the United States claims is a concerted effort to arm militants and harm U.S. troops.

Olmert Still Intends to Give Away Judea and Samaria

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Olmert has no clue whatsoever.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert reiterated his belief that Israel “needs to withdraw” from the biblical Jewish provinces of Judea and Samaria.

Speaking at a gathering of farmers in the Jezreel Valley, Olmert maintained that Israel would have to make “tough decisions” with regard to territorial compromise.

According to the Prime Minister, anyone who thinks Israel can continue to hold onto the provinces captured in the defensive Six Day War of 1967 is “living in a dream.”

“Everyone understands that the State of Israel can’t exist without a guarantee of a Jewish majority,” Olmert added.

Although many in Israel believe the question of Jewish majority to be a fundamental problem, recent research suggests otherwise. A major demographic study published in 2005 by Bennett Zimmerman, Roberta Seid and Michael L. Wise revealed that the status of a Jewish majority between the Jordan River and Mediterranean Sea is much more stable than previously reported, with Jews representing at least 60 percent of the total population.

The data further suggests that the numbers of Arabs living in Judea and Samaria (commonly referred to as the West Bank) in particular have been grossly overstated.

Olmert added in his address that any territorial compromise to giveaway all or parts of Judea and Samaria would not occur unilaterally—as was the withdrawal from Gaza 2005—but rather through a negotiated solution with the Palestinian Authority.

The statements came on the eve following Olmert’s release of 255 convicted terrorists serving terms in Israeli prisons, back into the general population of Judea and Samaria, a move which drew the criticism of many throughout the country. Olmert did not demand any information on the whereabouts of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit in exchange for the release of the terrorists, but rather said that letting the terrorists out of jail was a “goodwill gesture.”

“JUSTICE, JUSTICE SHALT THOU PURSUE” (Deuteronomy) An Interview with Dr. Phyllis Chesler by Fern Sidman

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

So, how does a nice Jewish girl from Boro Park become a prominent leader in the Second Wave feminist movement of the 1960’s and an internationally renowned left-wing ideologue and icon? And more to the point, how does she renounce the falsehood and totalitarian thinking of those ideologies that were once such an integral part of her core being? How does she become a Bush supporter, a neo-conservative thinker who has the respect of the political and religious right?

Only Dr. Phyllis Chesler can answer that. Dr. Chesler, who also happens to be a Boro Park native, prolific author, psychotherapist and feminist dissident, is a person who does not mince words. And while we may or may not agree with her on all of her positions, she is one voice that is worth listening to. And as with all tenacious individuals who dare speak the truth, who sound a clarion call against injustice; comes a unique and fascinating personal story. Her curriculum vitae reads as a veritable cornucopia of academic and personal achievements:

Dr. Chesler is an Emerita Professor of Psychology and Women’s Studies at City University of New York. She has lectured and organized political, legal, religious and human rights campaigns in the United States and in Canada, Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. A popular guest on campuses and in national and international print, television, radio and online media, she has been an expert commentator on the major events of our time. She has lived in Kabul, Afghanistan, and in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Dr. Chesler has appeared on The Today Show, The O’Reilly Factor, Oprah, Nightline, CSPAN, 700 Club, CNN, Court TV, The Dennis Prager Show, Donahue, Geraldo, The History Channel, Israel National Radio, Al-Hurrah, The MacNeil-Lehrer Report, MSNBC, NPR, and Washington Journal and on network and local radio and TV programs all over North America and Europe. For three years, she was a regular contributor to NPR’s program At the Opera. In the last few years, she has been interviewed hundreds of times in the media about anti-Semitism, Jihadic terrorism and Islamic gender and religious apartheid and has delivered many lectures on these subjects.

Over the years, Dr. Chesler has been published and interviewed in the Washington Post, the International Herald Tribune, the New York Times, the Washington Times, the London Guardian, The Times of London, Science Magazine, etc. More recently, she has published steadily in FrontPagemag.com, The Jewish Press, The National Review, The Washington Times and The World Jewish Digest. Her archives reside at Duke University.

Dr. Chesler’s thirteen books and thousands of articles and speeches have inspired people on many diverse issues. Her books include: Women and Madness; Women, Money and Power; About Men; With Child: A Diary of Motherhood; Mothers on Trial: The Battle for Children and Custody; Sacred Bond: The Legacy of Baby M; Patriarchy: Notes of an Expert Witness; Feminist Foremothers in Women’s Studies, Psychology, and Mental Health; Letters to a Young Feminist; Woman’s Inhumanity to Woman; Women of the Wall: Claiming Sacred Ground at Judaism’s Holy Site; The New Anti-Semitism. The Current Crisis and What We Must Do About It; and The Death of Feminism. What’s Next in the Struggle for Women’s Freedom.

Phyllis Chesler was born on October 1, 1940 to working class Orthodox parents in Boro Park. As a young child, she rebelled against her faith and joined the Socialist-Zionist, anti-religious youth movement, HaShomer Hatzair. Her parents were nonplussed and appalled at her decision and called in a bevy of Rabbis to counsel young Phyllis. They informed her that her involvement in such an organization was tantamount to committing heresy. Phyllis then joined an even more radical and even further left-wing Zionist youth movement called Ain Harod.

Her college years saw her at Bard College, the second most liberal college in the country and one that has traditionally attracted artists and performers. It was there that she met her college sweetheart, Ali, a thoroughly Westernized Muslim man from Afghanistan. He had spent 14 years in private schools in Europe and the United States. Both intellectuals of the highest caliber, they enjoyed discussing the works of Proust and Fellini and other acclaimed authors.

Phyllis was eager to set out for a “big adventure” and Ali provided that opportunity. Before departing for a European tour, they married in a civil ceremony in 1961 in New York State. Phyllis really didn’t want to get married but Ali told her that his parents, devout Muslims, would not tolerate him traveling with a girlfriend. After journeying throughout Europe, they arrived in the Middle East and visited Beirut and Teheran before arriving in Ali’s birthplace, Kabul, Afghanistan.

Upon arriving in Kabul, her US passport was confiscated and she was never to see it again. It was in Kabul that Phyllis lived in what she termed, “a posh purda” existence. It was in Kabul that she witnessed horrific abuse of women and girls, a polygamous father-in-law and a bitter and resentful mother-in-law who would often beat the female servants. She also witnessed the forced veiling of women, the calamitous effects of arranged marriages and the oppression of women’s psyches. Her once beloved “Westernized” husband, Ali, suddenly morphed into a Muslim man; cynical, overbearing and tyrannical. As Phyllis stated in her book, The Death of Feminism (page 94), “I had been sent back to the tenth century and placed under house arrest.”

Phyllis was forced to wear the traditional garb of the Muslim woman, including the veil. She expressed her vehement opposition to this form of dress and was met with tremendous pressure to conform by her husband and his family. Her mother-in-law attempted to convert Phyllis to Islam, yet Phyllis would not hear of it. She was still a Jew and would not submit to the religious coercion that was foisted upon her.

She desperately tried to escape the confines of Kabul, with no help at all forthcoming from the US Embassy in Kabul. Finally, it was through the efforts of her father-in-law, who so resented her, that she attained the freedom to leave.

After returning to the United States, she returned to college and pursued her Masters and Doctorate degrees. The year was 1967, and Phyllis immersed herself in the nascent Second Wave feminist movement. The catalyst of her personal political trajectory was precisely the abuse of women that she had witnessed first hand during her captivity in Afghanistan. She began to speak and write about the oppression of women both in the Middle East and in the United States as well, with a zeal and fury. She organized conferences, seminars, protests and teach-ins to help spotlight the cause that she felt so passionate about. As a result, she began to emerge as a prominent and sought after feminist leader. She also became an advocate for a whole host of other anti-colonialist, anti-imperialist and anti-racist causes and could often be found at anti-Vietnam war demonstrations as well as speaking out vociferously for the civil rights of America’s minorities.

Throughout it all, something pressing was gnawing away at Phyllis. She was always proud of being a Jew, proud of being a supporter of Israel and often wore a big Jewish star to the many feminist and left-wing events that she attended. The reaction of her left-wing comrades to her overt Jewishness and her support of Zionism was indeed troubling to Phyllis. Over time, she took notice of an increasing hostility towards Israel, as voiced by both American and European academics and intellectuals and from her contemporaries in the feminist and anti-war movements. She began to take heed of the half-truths, gross distortions and outright lies directed against Israel that were being extolled by those individuals and organizations with whom she shared a close alliance.

Phyllis stoically challenged the dogma of the left, liberal dominated world of academia and began to expose the hypocritical “totalitarian groupthink” that pervaded their ranks. By rejecting cultural relativism and political correctness and speaking about the “hijacking” of the causes that she championed, she was verbally attacked in the most brutal form, threatened and shunned by her esteemed colleagues.

Phyllis was now considered to be a persona non-grata in her once formidable circle of feminist academics. As she states in The Death of Feminism, “I often held the minority position among feminists on most issues and was never a true-blue Marxist-Leninist. My kind did not prevail in the (feminist) academy or in the media. Today, what young people and outsiders may think feminism is really about is not the feminism that many of us once fought for.”

Her truth telling did not stop there. Concerning the dangers of Islamic terrorism and her support for Israel in this post-9/11 world, she states, “I think al Qaeda is only an annihilating force that has nothing to do with justice but instead represents a totalitarian war against western ideals such as freedom and democracy; we are in the cross-hairs of the Islamist desire to rule the world. I view Osama bin Laden and the late Yassir Arafat and their minions of mullahs as radically evil, not as noble representatives of their own people – people whom they themselves have tortured, tyrannized and impoverished.”

“Saying things like this, coupled with my spirited defense of Israel, has gotten me into trouble with nearly every politically correct good person I know and has resulted in my being severely ignored or criticized in the liberal, left, secular, and feminist media and led to my being perceived as a right-wing, conservative, reactionary turncoat.”

“The way I see it: Everything is at stake, it is all up for grabs, this is no time for nihilistic rhetoric and tedious party lines. This is not the time to think in ways calculated to please or to least offend one’s peers. My goal is quite the opposite. I do not want to offend my good feminist friends; on the contrary, I would like to bring women and men together – from both the right and the left – in order to make a real difference. This is a time when we, the good people, have to think clearly, creatively, boldly and morally.”

Her views on the latest version of anti-Semitism, as outlined in her 2003 book, The New Anti-Semitism: The Current Crisis and What We Must Do About, also drew a substantial criticism from former colleagues and associates.

As Dr. Chesler states: “This is a book about the new anti-Semitism – a virulent epidemic of violence, hatred, and lies that are being touted as politically correct. Islamic reactionaries and western intellectuals and progressives who may disagree on every other subject have agreed that Israel and America are the cause of all evil. Israel has fast become the Jew of the world – scorned, scapegoated, demonized, and attacked.”

“Now Israel is the Jew of the world; its citizens are being ghettoized and isolated just as Jews once were in Europe and under Islam. The Jews of Israel are facing the gravest danger, but Jews elsewhere – especially in Europe, but also in South America, Africa, and Asia – are also increasingly at risk. Today, the new anti-Semitism speaks a hundred languages. The mob’s infernal, heart-stopping chants, flag burnings, bombings, and executions are shown on television over and over again. The demonization of the Jews and of Israel has created an atmosphere in which the unthinkable and the horrific are becoming possible.”

“I knew it from the moment the two Israeli reservists were lynched in Ramallah in the fall of 2000. The Palestinian crowds cheered when the smiling murderers proudly displayed their hands smeared with Jewish blood. I saw them dancing in the blood of my people, partying, like ghouls. No one on the airwaves drew back in horror; they showed these scenes but did not condemn them. International human rights activists and intellectuals remained silent, as did the United Nations. I wept because I understood that Jewish history was, once more, repeating itself. How foolish I’d been to think that we had finally escaped it. But will six million more have to die before the bloodletting stops?”

Over the last several years, Dr. Chesler’s writings have found a new home in more right-wing, conservative web sites and publications. Her articles appear regularly on David Horowitz’s (a former left-wing academic) web site, FrontPageMag.com as well as IntellectualConservative.com, The Jewish Press, The National Review, The Washington Times and The World Jewish Digest. Dr. Chesler has also spoken at events sponsored by Americans For a Safe Israel and the National Women’s Republican Club as well as a wide variety of other right-wing and religious functions.

Speaking the truth and expressing support for Israel in the bellicose world of those who ostensibly profess to adhere to the tenets of “tolerance, diversity and freedom of speech” requires a thick skin and great intestinal fortitude. Dr. Phyllis Chesler does not shirk from her responsibilities in the realm of intellectual honesty and speaks in a voice that is unequivocal, as her message exudes the kind of clarity and forthrightness that is rarely displayed.

I sat down with Dr. Chesler to discuss her book, The New Anti-Semitism: The Current Crisis and What We Must Do About It (Jossey Bass -2003) and her other writings.

Ms. Sidman: Could you tell us about the genesis of this book? Did you encounter any resistance to its publication?

Dr. Chesler: My editor at Jossey Bass challenged me. Are you sure you ought to say this? Are you really sure that you’re right? And I said, yes. I’ve understood that in the past one can criticize Israel and many people have done so and they weren’t necessarily anti-Semitic, but now the way in which Israel has been completely demonized and the attempts to isolate and punish only Israel in a world filled with so much greater evil prompted me to write this. And it’s the evil doers who are telling big lies about Israel. Anti-Zionism today is anti-Semitism. So it took from the time I wrote this book in 2002, until it was published in 2003 in the summer to about the spring of 2007 for Jewish organizations to begin to say this. This is too slow. This is not fast enough.

Ms. Sidman: What is your opinion of how Iran’s nuclear capability will affect Israel and the West?

Dr. Chesler: Iran has to be stopped. There is a threat from Iran which is right near Israel’s border in terms of Hizbollah and Hamas, both. I would only wish for an Entebbe like action, which I’m assured is not quite possible because the nuclear plants that are in the process of being built in Iran, and there are at least 100, are buried all over the country in heavily populated areas.

Ms. Sidman: Do you feel that the United States should engage in direct negotiations with Iran to help curtail the threat of a potential nuclear holocaust?

Dr. Chesler: Think of it from a woman’s point of view, or a psychologist’s point of view. If a man is a batterer you want him arrested and removed and sentenced, or do you want to sit down and talk to him? Sometimes, talking, which I don’t think is going to work, is something you have to do. Is there another way to deal with Iran, without a nuclear holocaust? I don’t know. I don’t think so.

Ms. Sidman: What are your views on the US policy of defeating terrorism?

Dr. Chesler: The enemy is not terrorism. The enemy of today is Jihad, fundamentalist Islam. That’s the enemy. Terrorism is an effective tactic that they’ve been using and they’ve not been made to pay the slightest consequence. If you really want to stop terrorism you do terrible things. You do terrible, terrible things. And that’s a question that Jews, especially have to wrestle with. Do you wipe out cities? Do you wipe out villages? You know, for every one of ours that’s taken, we take a hundred of theirs. All the terrorists in Israeli jails never had it so good. First, they have each other and they all pray together, and they hang out together. They don’t have to work and they have three meals a day and they have visitors. I think, what’s wrong with this picture?

Some people say that these monsters who hate us so were so deprived of a real childhood and Israeli shrinks are studying them. Will they change anyway? No, I don’t think so. Maybe you have to kill them instead of giving them a hundred life sentences, because then what they remain is perennial bargaining chips.

Ms. Sidman: In your opinion, are there any Arabs or Muslims who truly want peace with Israel and are willing to speak out against Islamic terrorism?

Dr. Chesler: There are Arabs who are pro-Israel and strongly so. Let me praise Nonie Darwish who’s written a book called Infidel and whose father was a leading military man. You have Walid Shoebat for Israel. You have Bridget Gabriel, an Arab Christian for Israel. You have Wafa Sultan. But we can’t count on these individual charismatic figures popping up with a movement, who are just for themselves. We have Ibn Wariq with whom I’ve been working. That’s a pseudonym. Now, I know people who not only have bodyguards and live in exile or live in hiding, but they have to write under pseudonyms. When you tell the truth about Islam, you’re a marked person, especially if you were once a Muslim. They’re all pro-Israel and we have Israeli Jews who are so savagely critical of Israel. We have American Jews on the unbalanced left of the left who are so against Israel. We, therefore, have to recognize our friends and we have to risk making, at least conversations, if not making alliances with friends from the Muslim and Arab world and friends from the Christian world. For Jews to begin to make alliances, serious alliances with Christian Zionists is very important. I’ve been on the Pat Robertson show (The 700 Club) twice and I took holy hell for it from my former feminist friends.

Ms. Sidman: What is your opinion of those feminists and western intellectuals who have criticized and shunned you?

Dr. Chesler: Once you stand up for the Jews and for Israel, and once you tell the truth about Islam which includes the mistreatment of women and independent thought under Islam, then you are libeled or you’re slandered or you’re branded a racist, neo-conservative reactionary, right-wing nut. And so you’ve got a choice. You have to either sign on to the entire liberal left-wing agenda which demonizes Israel or at least blames Israel first and then you have a whole set of women’s rights issues that I have pioneered.

Then, you have the liberal Jews, my people the feminists, who care more about the right to an abortion than the right not to have a second Holocaust. I’m serious. This is the balance and this is wrenching. There are wonderful feminists who are doing such important work for women. I mean, frum feminists, totally frum feminists. I just recently met the director of the shelter for battered women in Jerusalem. She had heartbreaking stories and she’s doing G-d’s work in my opinion. She is not frum, but there are others who are, who are similarly looking for gender justice for women within Judaism here and in Israel.

Concerning feminists, there is such a phobia about the Republican Party, about the Christian right wing, about the Jewish right wing and the phobia mainly comes from a secular world view as well as being Palestinianized, sort of mentally hijacked. So secular people have a very different world view. One feminist reviewer of this book happens to a Jewish woman. She wrote that I grossly exaggerate the danger coming to us from Islam which is not really the problem in her opinion. The real problem is her opinion, get ready to laugh, because it’s true, is the danger that Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and the Lubavitcher Rebbe pose. Now, where is she coming from? She’s a well educated woman. She’s a secular Jewish person and she really sees the anti-abortion agenda as so heinous, as so atrocious, so horrifying. These people are not going to care about Israel. To them there is no G-d. They don’t care about Israel.

I do think that the work that has been done in terms of rape, battering, incest, employment discrimination, prostitution, pornography and the trafficking mainly of women and children is holy work. It’s holy work and it’s being done, historically by mainly totally secular women. Totally secular. And with the secularity comes interesting beliefs such as human beings can make a perfect society and then you get communists and they believe you can kill hundreds of millions to try to make it really perfect. That’s the problem.

Ms. Sidman: In your book and your writings you speak of a concept called multicultural relativism that is espoused by the media and the world of academia. Can you expound on that?

Dr. Chesler: It’s easy to say, yes, the Muslims are against everyone who is not a Muslim. And it’s true. I mean, that’s part of what Jihad is about, that’s part of the history of Islam. But, it also doesn’t account for the feuds among the Muslim tribes, amongst the religious, bloody, deadly – Here’s the thing. The West, and that means Jews and Israelis, we would like to lead sweet lives and peaceful lives. We’re up against an enemy now that is dying to kill us and lives to kill and lives to fight at its best, that wishes to impose the most triumphal imperialism to dominate the entire world.

Now I see this very clearly. I turn to people like Amy Goodman of WBAI or people who are tenured professors at universities in the West which are our Achilles Heel, our Trojan Horse. I turn to people on the airwaves and tell them what I just said. They say I’m a lunatic. Completely biased, completely racist. Their point of view is that America is to blame and that the way we make up for our many errors in crimes is to become multicultural relativists, meaning that all cultures, you see, are equal or should be treated equally and we should have equal rights to cannibals.

Ms. Sidman: What is your opinion of the recent influx of Sudanese refuges seeking political asylum in Israel? In your book you speak of gender apartheid in the Sudan. Notwithstanding, do you think Israel should absorb these refugees?

Dr. Chesler: What a good and difficult question. First, there is gender apartheid in every Muslim country; it’s not just in the Sudan. In the Sudan they’re doing what I call gender cleansing and it’s Muslim on Muslim violent crime and it’s Muslim on Muslim genocide. The Arab Muslim militia is repeatedly raping women and children who have been genitally mutilated, which means that it is torture upon torture and they are often outcast and shunned by whatever might be left of the ability to have a family. This kind of apartheid is characteristic of Islam. What should Israel, already so burdened, so under siege with its own settlers still unsettled from the Gaza pullout do? What should we, the bearers of the light and the truth of G-d, what should we do with these terrible refugees. Perhaps many of whom hate Jews and hate Israel.

We, who were slaves in Egypt, we who were liberated from slavery, obviously the ethical thing, the Jewish thing, the right thing would be to throw wide our doors to everyone in flight from Islamic persecution. Alas, who’s going to pay for it? Can Israel afford to do it? Can it do it only symbolically or for hasbarah purposes, so that it’s good propaganda that the Jews are helping their enemies. Jews are very good at that. We’re very good at subsidizing those who are trying to kill us, giving them a second chance. We’re practically Christian in this turning of the other cheek, still bent on negotiation.

Ms. Sidman: You’ve commented on and written articles about films and documentaries that are exceptionally biased against Israel and the effects they have as propaganda. Can you tell us more about that?

Dr. Chesler: One of the things that I speak and write about is the war of ideas, the cultural war. It is a propaganda war and I don’t understand why the West – and now it’s bigger than the Jews, it’s bigger than just the Israelis, why the West is not winning this war. I mean, one answer is that the West to some extent has been hijacked by its own beliefs about poverty justifying terrorism. Misery, which is presumably caused by America and Israel is then leading to the so-called resistance of terrorism against us, as if Bin Laden is poor. As if the 9/11 hijackers were uneducated, illiterate, poor men, which is not the case.

Films and visuals are used as such sophisticated propaganda. The prime example of what the new anti-Semitism is all about includes a film done by Mohammed Bakri, entitled, Jenin, Jenin. This film is a fake documentary with plenty of doctored footage. So maybe Muhammed Aldurar wasn’t killed by the Israelis, for sure he wasn’t. Maybe he was definitely killed by Palestinians. Absolutely. Maybe Palestinians killed him on purpose. No, wait. Maybe they staged the whole thing as a piece of political theater which is now what the evidence seems to lead us to.

There are hundreds of examples of visual propaganda. I was just thinking about the new film about Daniel Pearl (the Wall Street Journal reporter who was kidnapped and beheaded by al Qaeda). The film is not really about Daniel Pearl, it’s really – he’s missing from the film and the name of the film is called A Mighty Heart. It’s a woman’s film. It’s about Daniel Pearl’s wife waiting for him, while he’s been kidnapped to return, and one has the feeling of being in an intimate family like setting. Angelina Jolie who plays, Mrs. Pearl, Marianne, I think her name is, has very pro-Palestinian politics in a Third Worldish point of view. This movie, in my opinion is very dangerous propaganda which I write about in my review called A Mighty Big Lie.

Then there was the film, Paradise Now, which was a brilliant movie. So here was a hugely funded film by a Palestinian who lives in exile in Europe and it presents two would be suicide terrorists. They’re both so sympathetic, they’re so cute, I mean, we really like them and the Israelis are only in the shadows, helmeted with bayonets, with guns, anonymous and Nazi-like. The bad guys who are really almost off camera are these really soulful characters, one of whom blows up a bus and himself ultimately. Now, it won all kinds of awards, people raised it, and I viewed it as a really very good film as a film goes, therefore very dangerous because it presents a whole series of lies and omissions.

There is a film that is not out as of yet, in which I interviewed terrorists who are intercepted and who are in jail, women as well as men. These people are not poor, and they’re not crazy. They are merged with a culture which is empowering them to unleash hatred against the other, the woman, the Jew, the modern Western outsider, lethal hatred.

Ms. Sidman: You’ve edited a book, an anthology entitled, Women of the Wall – Claiming Sacred Ground At Judaism’s Holiest Site. Could you tell us what inspired you to become involved in this project?

Dr. Chesler: I was in Jerusalem in 1988 for a feminist conference and I heard, like on the wind, I don’t know how I heard, that women are going to daven with the Torah at the Kotel in the Ezrat Nashim in the morning. Right away, I found the woman whose idea it was and she’s been my chavruta ever since. She was one of the leaders of the Orthodox women’s tefilla groups and she thought, well, why not do it at the Kotel. They do it everywhere else. Instead of doing it at a hotel in Jerusalem, do it at the Kotel. So I thought it was psychologically historic and religiously historic and we formed a committee to support the women who wanted to continue to pray. Now, most of the women, the core group were far more learned than me and were far more religious than I was and they were not political types. They wanted to pray. It’s unbelievable. For nearly 20 years, three Supreme Court lawsuits and we’ve witnessed terrible mistreatment of holy women, of sincere women, of religious women.

This book came out in 2002, when I’m busy with the work on anti-Semitism. I made a decision that I couldn’t promote the book because I could easily have gotten into the pages of all the mainstream media criticizing Israel and its failure and I didn’t want to do that. The book is dedicated to the State of Israel.

The women are not asking to be counted as a minyan. They’re not trying to pray with the men. They’re not part of a particular denomination. They follow Orthodox guidelines for women’s prayer only in the women’s section. I happen to daven in an Orthodox shul now with a balcony as the women’s section. I trust their politics on Israel. I love the Rabbi. Life does strange things, you know.

Ms. Sidman: Concerning the 2005 disengagement from Gaza, you’re aware that thousands of evacuees from Gush Katif are still homeless, living in caravans and are destitute. What would you say to the Jews living on other settlements in Judea and Samaria, such as Elon Moreh, near Schechem, who could also suffer the same fate?

Dr. Chesler: I think the settlement movement was idealistic and ideological, akin to the pioneering spirit of the first kibbutzniks. In the past I had demonstrated against the “occupation”, I will not do so now. If we owe the settlers anything, it’s Schechem. If we have a history anywhere it is Schechem among other places. We see more clearly what the unilateral withdrawal from Gaza has revealed and it could ultimately be a good thing because the world is forced to see who Hamas is.

Ms. Sidman: How can the readers of this interview, contact you or obtain your books and other publications?

Dr. Chesler: I welcome all comments and inquiries. Anyone can reach me by going to my web site at: www.phyllis-chesler.org

Solution to Immigration Problem? Enforce the Laws!

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Makes perfect sense.

An activist group advocating legal immigration paths into the United States wants an investigation into the nation’s failure to enforce what immigration laws it already has.

“We need Congress and the press to do their jobs, by launching investigations to find out why our existing laws are not being enforced,” said William Gheen, a spokesman for Americans for Legal Immigration PAC.

“Presidents do not get to decide which laws they will or will not enforce on behalf of their big business friends. That’s what kings do, not presidents. If our existing laws go un-enforced, then we no longer live in a functioning Republican for which our flag stands,” he said.

Gheen, in an earlier analysis of the issue of illegal aliens, said the issue isn’t all that complicated.

“A Gathering of Wolves” by Hal Lindsey

Friday, July 20th, 2007

According to the most recent intelligence reports, former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s gesture for peace – disengagement from Gaza – may have set the stage for the next phase of war.

A senior IDF officer said this week that the weapons Hamas is smuggling into Gaza have become significantly more sophisticated now that they have a free hand to do so without Israeli interference. Since the Gaza takeover by Hamas, it has reportedly smuggled in 20 tons of explosives via the Philidelphia Corridor from the Sinai into the Strip. According to the officer, Israel currently has a limited time frame to address the findings.

“There is today an opportunity since the world has not yet become accustomed to the new Hamas entity, and Hamas has not yet fully completed strengthening it’s military capabilities,” according to the Jerusalem Post, quoting the unnamed official.

“The Gaza Strip is a boiling pot, the fire underneath is fueled by economy and ideology, and the lid over it is Israel. Hamas is currently not acting against Israel because it is not in the group’s interest, but one must not mistake this with the organization’s ultimate goals.”

Hamas has gone from being a terrorist group to becoming a full-fledged army, with four brigades made up of battalions and platoons. They are in possession of anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons, Katyusha rocket battalions, and Hamas boasts an infantry numbering more than 13,000 recruits.

It is Israel’s nightmare scenario: a fully-equipped enemy military force in Hamas, another fully-equipped Hezbollah military force in Lebanon, and an increasingly belligerent regime in Syria poised for war.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has repeatedly promised to wipe Israel from the map, has traveled to Damascus for meetings with Syria’s Bashar Assad, who was sworn in this week for another seven-year term as Syrian president.

In addition to meeting with Assad, Ahmadinejad is also planning to meet with Hamas and Hezbollah officials.

Israel has every reason to be concerned. Asked about the possibility of another war breaking out in the region, the Iranian president replied, “We hope the summer will bring victories to the region’s nations and failures to their enemies.”

The Iranian president called on the region’s states to be alert in the face of Israel’s attempts to rehabilitate itself after what he defined as its “failure” in the Second Lebanon War.

Ahmadinejad warned that Israel may take action to compensate itself for those failures.

“The Zionist regime has lost its ideology of existence and will therefore try to compensate for its failures,” Ahmadinejad told the Syrian press. “This issue should lead to a state of high alert among the region’s nations, particularly among the Palestinians and Lebanese.”

Nowhere in the Middle East is there a nation on a higher state of alert than Israel.

However, according to the Bible, it is Damascus that should be worried. I realize I have written about this prophecy recently, but the situation in that area seems to be moving into the perimeters of its predictions so rapidly, that it bears repeating.

The Prophet Isaiah was given a burden concerning the city of Damascus, which he recorded in Isaiah 17:1:

“The burden concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.”

Damascus is the oldest continuously inhabited city on earth. Many historians date the city back to the dawn of human civilization.

Damascus has been conquered many times; by the Assyrians, the Persians, the Seleucids, the Romans, Byzantines, Omayyeds, Seljuks, Mamelukes and the Ottoman Empire.

But through all its long history, Damascus has never been destroyed. It has never been ‘taken away from being a city’ and it has never been left a ‘ruinous heap.’

Ahmadinejad Hopes For ‘Victories’ This Summer

Friday, July 20th, 2007

More threats from the ultimate terrorist.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lashed out Thursday at the region’s enemies and called for Lebanese unity during meetings in Damascus with his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad and Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
“The enemies of the region should abandon plans to attack the interests of this region, or they will be burned by the wrath of the region’s peoples,” the hardline Iranian leader said at a joint press conference with Assad.

Both Iran and Syria face U.S. accusations of fueling violence in Iraq and supporting Hizbullah. They are also accused of supporting anti-Israeli militant Palestinian groups, like the Islamic Hamas.

In a joint statement, the two leaders said that it “is necessary to consolidate national unity and harmony among all Lebanese to assure the stability and security of Lebanon.”

They expressed their “support for all decisions taken by all Lebanese,” and called on the international community to help “stop repeated Zionist aggression against Lebanese sovereignty.”

Palestinian Children Starve While Money Flows to Arm Hamas Terrorist

Friday, July 20th, 2007

In usual Islamic terrorist style, it is more important to get weapons to kill innocent Israeli civilians with than it is to feed their families. After all, women and children are only property to the Islamic man. If one or two dies of starvation, what’s the big deal? The pali terrorist are only going to strap bombs on them and blow them up in Israeli bus stops, malls, coffee shops and hospitals anyway.

Palestinians in Gaza appeal for more aid

GAZA (Reuters) – Children raced to help parents collect food from U.N. aid distribution centers in the Gaza Strip as women sat in the shade near trucks, waiting for their names to be called to receive their food rations.

The enclave’s isolation has deepened since the Islamist Hamas group routed their Western-backed rivals to seize control last month. Israel, effectively at war with Hamas, has sealed off key border crossings, stifling trade and forcing thousands of Palestinians to seek handouts from U.N. aid bodies.

The U.N. aid agency for Palestinian refugees says that up to 825,000 of Gaza’s 1.5 million inhabitants, classed as refugees, currently receive food rations, and the U.N. World Food Program aids a further 200,000 people.

As U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon prepared to meet fellow members of the Quartet of mediators in Lisbon on Thursday, Palestinians urged the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to widen its program to feed more people.

“We now have only God and then UNRWA,” said Ahmed al-Jammal, a father of five, inside an aid centre in Gaza City. “We have no other source of income,” he said as he received sacks of flour and rice and bottles of cooking oil.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Karen AbuZayd also urged the Quartet powers to act to ease an effective trade embargo on the Strip and send their new envoy Tony Blair to visit.

“If the economy doesn’t work … then we will have to have food for many more people,” she said in an interview.

Families used vehicles and donkey carts to transfer the supplies to their homes. Palestinians in Gaza say they receive similar aid packages every three months.

Saeed Darwish, a father of 10, said U.N. food aid had become the “lifeline” for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.

“There are many families who are in need of your help and they do not get it,” Darwish said as sacks of flour piled in front of him.

Israel has kept the crossings on its border with Gaza under tight control since it pulled out of the territory in 2005.

But a refusal to deal with Hamas by Israel, Egypt and the Palestinian Authority led by President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank has meant major crossing points, including the main freight terminal with Israel at Karni, have been effectively closed since June’s fighting between Hamas and Abbas’s Fatah faction.

Israel says it cannot ensure its security at the crossings.

It would actually be very easy for the pali’s to get as much aid as the want…all they need to do is stop all attempts at terrorist attacks against Israel. It really is that easy.
But they won’t. And they never will.

‘Israel on collision course with Hamas’

Claiming that Hamas has jumped light years ahead militarily since Israel’s disengagement from Gaza, a high-ranking IDF officer on Thursday called for a large-scale military operation to be mounted in the Strip within “a limited window of opportunity” that might close in less than a year.

He said Hamas now had 13,000 men under arms, had dramatically increased weapons smuggling since its violent takeover of the Strip last month, and was working to attain a Katyusha rocket capability.
“There is an opportunity today since the world has not yet become accustomed to the new Hamas entity, and Hamas has not yet fully completed strengthening its military capabilities,” the officer said, adding that Israel was on a “collision course” with the radical Islamic group.

The Egyptians, Americans and Europeans could not be counted on to stop Hamas, the officer said, adding: “The final job will have to be done by no one else but us.”

Hamas, the officer revealed, has established a full-fledged military force in Gaza consisting of four brigades, corresponding to the different sections of the Gaza Strip. The brigades are made up of a number of battalions and platoons and include special forces. In addition, Hamas had smuggled in 20 tons of explosives via the Philadelphi Corridor from Sinai over the past two months, he said.

Furthermore, the officer claimed that the group had obtained a large number of advanced antitank missiles, as well as an unknown number of antiaircraft missiles. Hamas, he said, was working to obtain long-range Katyusha rockets, and was also investing to improve the range of its cache of Kassam rockets, he said.

“They have an organized military,” the officer said, adding that Hamas’s infantry now had some 13,000 recruits. “They have the manpower, they have the training, they have the motivation; the principle is creating a balance of deterrence against Israel.”

The officer also noted that over the past two years since Israel’s disengagement from Gaza, several hundred Palestinians had traveled from Gaza to Iran to receive training. On average, he said, each Palestinian who trained in Iran was capable of training 400 Palestinians upon his return.

He said that Israel was basically helpless when it came to stopping Palestinian terrorists from entering or leaving Gaza through the Rafah Crossing, despite the presence there of European Union monitors.

Democrats Kill Legislation that Would Protect “John Does”

Friday, July 20th, 2007

See Something? Report Something

OK, here’s the recap:
Back in March, we blogged about legislation that was introduced to help protect people, who in good faith, reported suspicious activity. This legislation was brought about by a lawsuit against the “John Does” who tipped off airline officials about the “six flying imams”, who were removed from a flight after displaying suspicious activity.
The sole purpose of this lawsuit is to intimidate future “John Does” from reporting suspicious activity, thus making it easier for terrorist to carry out terrorist acts.
This legislation would have prevented lawsuits against people, who in good faith, reported something suspicious.

Now, thanks to your Democrats, the legislation is now dead.

Did you get that? The very people you put in control of congress, are not interested in protecting you from being sued for doing your civic duty and reporting suspicious activity. (Sarcasm on) Good Job!! (Sarcasm off)

Michelle Malkin has more:

Andy McCarthy and Audrey Hudson report that Democrats are attempting to water down the “John Doe” amendment–the legislation sponsored by Rep. Peter King that would protect citizen whistleblowers who act to protect our national security and who are threatened by lawsuits from CAIR and their grievance-mongering ilk. Time is short. You need to make your voice heard in Congress now.

Hudson writes:

Democrats are trying to pull a provision from a homeland security bill that will protect the public from being sued for reporting suspicious behavior that may lead to a terrorist attack, according to House Republican leadership aides. The legislation, which moves to a House and Senate conference committee this afternoon, will implement final recommendations from the 911 Commission.Rep. Pete King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, and Rep. Steve Pearce, New Mexico Republican, sponsored the bill after a group of Muslim imams filed a lawsuit against U.S. Airways and unknown or “John Doe” passengers after they were removed for suspicious behavior aboard Flight 300 from Minneapolis to Phoenix on Nov. 20 before their removal.“Democrats are trying to find any technical excuse to keep immunity out of the language of the bill to protect citizens, who in good faith, report suspicious activity to police or law enforcement,” Mr. King said in an interview last night.“This is a slap in the face of good citizens who do their patriotic duty and come forward, and it caves in to radical Islamists,” Mr. King said.

“I don’t see how you can have a homeland security bill without protecting people who come forward to report suspicious activity,” Mr. King said.

6:58 pm Eastern update and bumped. Audrey Hudson reports the Dems have successfully stripped out the John Doe amendment:

Congressional Democrats today failed to include a provision in homeland security legislation that would protect the public from being sued for reporting suspicious behavior that may lead to a terrorist attack, according to House Republican leaders. “This is a slap in the face of good citizens who do their patriotic duty and come forward, and it caves in to radical Islamists,” said Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee.

Who is responsible? Bryan Preston observes:

[The Dems] scuttled this amendment in committee in a way that makes them difficult to track down individually. That’s sneaky but it’s how Washington often works. Rep. Bennie Thompson is the most likely culprit, but it’s unlikely that he’s flying solo here.

The fight’s not over, as Audrey Hudson notes:

While the conference is not likely to meet again, Mr. King noted the conference report has not been written and says he will continue discussions with Sen. Joe Lieberman, Connecticut independent and chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, to insert the “John Doe” language. Sen. Susan Collins, Maine Republican and ranking member of the committee, announced afterward she will attempt to attach a similar bill to an education measure currently under debate on the Senate floor.

Keep calling Nancy Pelosi’s office to protest.

And start hounding your Senators.

“Brand Name Salvation?” by Jack Kinsella

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Store brand toasted oat ring cereals aren’t really Cheerios. They are made from oats, by the same processes, oftentimes in the same factories by the same employees, but they come in a different box, and therefore, they cost about a third the price.

When you pour them in your bowl at breakfast time, they look like Cheerios. They taste like Cheerios. But stores can’t call them Cheerios, so they aren’t Cheerios.

If they called them Cheerios, they’d have to charge the higher price for them to help General Mills pay that cute little bee’s salary for buzzing around the box.

General Mills Inc., tells you their brand of Cheerios are superior to the store brand. That’s why they cost so much more. Exactly how they are superior isn’t clear, but millions of people walk right by the store brand and buy the more expensive box.

But nobody eats the box. The nutritional value isn’t in the packaging, it is in the product. It isn’t the contents you are paying for.

It’s the box they come in.

According to a recent document signed by Pope Benedict XVI, God is like General Mills.

It isn’t the message that Jesus Christ was crucified for our sins, rose again on the third day, and extends an offer of pardon to all who repent of their sins and trust Him for their salvation that is important.

It’s the messenger.

The Pope explicitly said that non-Catholic Christians aren’t true Christians and that non-Catholic churches are not true churches.

Christ ‘established here on earth’ only one church,” said the document.

Other Christian communities such as Protestants “cannot be called ‘churches’ in the proper sense” since they don’t have what’s known as apostolic succession – that is, the ability to trace their bishops back to the original 12 apostles of Jesus.

It was “difficult to see how the title of ‘Church’ could possibly be attributed to them,” said the statement from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, purporting Roman Catholicism was “the one true Church of Christ.”

The Vatican statement said that non-Catholic denominations, since they can’t really be churches, “do not have the means of salvation.”

What is this statement really saying? In a nutshell, it is saying that the “means of salvation” is a church, not faith in Christ.

It can’t be understood to mean anything else. It can’t be twisted to mean anything else. If the ‘means to salvation’ is restricted to the Catholic Church, then it is church membership, not Jesus.

———-

Catholic apologists argue that the Church is constantly in the process of re-evaluating its positions on plenary indulgences, baptism, purgatory, etc., or that it doesn’t teach those positions today.

The fact is, the Vatican DOES teach those positions, and if it changes its mind, it is either the equivalent of God changing His mind, (which the Bible says is impossible) or it MUST be a case of the Vatican dictating the terms of salvation to God.

Neither of which makes any sense.

This is a good place for the chicken and the egg question. Which came first? Salvation or the Church? Was the thief who was crucified beside Jesus a Catholic? (Even Peter wasn’t a Catholic yet.)

Yet Jesus said to him, based on the thief’s confession of faith, “This day thou shalt be with Me in Paradise.”

Catholic dogma elevates Peter to the position of the first Pope based on his answer to a question Jesus posed to His disciples.

“When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, He asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that Thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.” (Matthew 16:14-15)

Since that was the wrong answer, a buzzer sounded, and then Jesus asked the Double Jeopardy Question.

“He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)

“That’s absolutely correct! You win the Double Jeopardy Round. Tell the audience what he’s won, Johnny.”

“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18)

“That’s right! For being the first one to correctly answer the Double Jeopardy Question, you win the Ring of the Fisherman! You are officially the First Pope.”

The fact that Jesus is the “Christ, the Son of the Living God” was NOT the Rock upon which He would build His Church, the Vatican teaches. Instead, the Vatican claims that PETER is the Rock upon which the Church would be built.

The whole “Christ, the Son of the Living God” part is therefore irrelevant.

Since Peter is “the Rock” — and not Christ’s Deity that the Church would be built on, Christ was addressing Peter, (and his successors) and NOT those who put their faith in Christ, when He said,

“And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 16:19)

If this were the correct reading of these passages, that the Lord was giving Peter the keys to heaven and the power to bind or loose in heaven, then the context of the next verse would mean the Church would never consist of any more than those present on that day.

“Then charged He His disciples that they should tell no man that He was Jesus the Christ.” (Matthew 16:20)

The Vatican argues that this particular verse was negated by His subsequent giving of the Great Commission.

But they also deny that His claim that He, Jesus, was the only way to heaven (“I am the way the truth and the life, and no man comes to the Father but by Me”) has any bearing on Peter’s (and his successor’s) authority to let people in, or exclude them from heaven.

It’s all quite convenient.

Only three verses after Jesus Christ elevated Peter to the position of Pope, giving him God-like power and authority, Jesus specifically calls Peter “Satan.”

“But He turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto Me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” (Matthew 16:23)

That’s not quite so convenient. So, therefore, it is irrelevant.

Please understand this: I am NOT saying that no Catholic can be saved, even though the Pope says no non-Catholic can be saved. One can be a Catholic and be saved, if one puts their faith in Christ for their salvation and merely attends a Catholic Church.

What I AM saying is that nobody can be saved solely by membership in the Catholic Church or that membership is the Catholic Church is necessary for salvation.

Nobody can be saved by keeping the rules the Catholic Church. Paul says anyone who seeks to be justified by the Law will be judged by the Law.

Both the Bible and honest self-evaluation make it clear that nobody can keep every single tenet of the Law. And “whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” (James 2:10)

The idea that God divides sins into minor (venial) and major (mortal) is not supported by Scripture. And if He does, which sins are which is a closely guarded cosmic secret.

If breaking the Ten Commandments qualify as mortal sins, then the Vatican is in violation of the prohibition on graven images. Therefore, the Catholic version of the Ten Commandments omits that one.

(Don’t take my word for it. Look it up for yourself. The official Vatican version omits Exodus 20:4 and then divides Exodus 20:17 into two parts so as to still add up to ten.)

The pronouncements of the Vatican CANNOT be the “means to salvation.” Salvation is a “gift of grace through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Faith in Peter does not qualify. Keeping Church Law does not qualify. Doing good works does not qualify.

Being baptized does not qualify. Going to confession does not qualify. Receiving communion does not qualify. Receiving last rites does not qualify. Obtaining plenary indulgences does not qualify.

The Bible outlines the qualifications for salvation.

“But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For HE is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in His flesh the enmity, EVEN THE LAW OF COMMANDMENTS CONTAINED IN ORDINANCES; for to make in Himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that He might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:” (Ephesians 2:13-16)

The Pope is a man. The ordinances of the Vatican are not Biblical, but the ordinances of men. The Vatican’s legacy from Peter IS Biblical, but it isn’t that Peter is “the Rock”.

It’s legacy is from three verses down: “Thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.”

There is but ONE Rock upon which Jesus Christ built His Church; the confession of faith that Jesus “is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” It isn’t the messenger that saves us.

It is the Message.

San Diego Proclaims Gay Pride Month

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Month? It used to be week or day, now we are celebrating what God calls an abomination for a whole month at a time? All we hear from the gay community is that they just want to be treated like everyone else. Ever heard of “Straight Pride Month”? No. Enough said.

After hearing fervent opposition, the San Diego City Council unanimously adopted a resolution introduced by Mayor Jerry Sanders to designate July as “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Month.”

Previous resolutions have honored the “gay pride” festival held each July in San Diego, but this apparently is city’s the first to designate an entire month, according to festival representatives. The council did approve a Lesbian and Gay Archives Month” in 1992. President Clinton declared June 2000 to be “Gay and Lesbian Pride Month” is the U.S.

Council President Scott Peters and member Toni Atkins introduced the resolution along with the mayor.
