Christians Arrested for Praying

Monday, July 9th, 2007

I feel sure that if the roles were reversed, the gays would not be arrested for standing on a sidewalk at a Christian festival.

Christians have been arrested recently at “gay” festivals for nothing more than having a protest sign that is “wider than their torso,” but now police have gone even further, targeting Bible-carrying ministers for praying on public property and for standing on a public sidewalk near a “gay” festival.

One of the new cases comes from Elmira, N.Y., where police arrested seven Christians who went into a public park where a “gay” fest was beginning and started to pray, faces down, while holding their Bibles.

They were cited for “disturbing the peace,” and Assistant Police Chief Mike Robertson told WND that the seven are accused of a “combination” of allegations under that statute, which includes the “intent” to cause a public inconvenience, any “disturbance” of a meeting of persons, obstructing vehicular or pedestrian traffic, or taking part in “any act that serves no legitimate purpose.”

The Crucifixion – A Bible Story Mural

Monday, July 9th, 2007

As they led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ Then ” ‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!” ‘For if men do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”

Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.”

The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”

There was a written notice above him, which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!”

But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”

It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.” When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away. But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
Luke 23:26-49 (New International Version)

“I didn’t think the mural should focus on the gruesome nature of Christ’s suffering – Children don’t need to see that, but I did want them to sense the dramatic, life changing nature of the crucifixion.”

Gore’s Live Earth Labeled Foul-Mouthed Flop

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Yesterday I read that the stars who performed at Gore’s Live Earth concerts flew a combined total of over 220,000 miles to reach their concert destinations. That alone tells me it’s all about the money not the planet. Apparently the stars were pretty raunchy and the shows didn’t generate as much cash as was predicted. Hate that.

Live Earth has been branded a foul-mouthed flop.

Organisers of the global music concert – punctuated by swearing from presenters and performers – had predicted massive viewing figures.

But BBC’s live afternoon television coverage attracted an average British audience of just 900,000.

In the evening, when coverage switched from BBC2 to BBC1, the figure rose to just 2.7million.

And the peak audience, which came when Madonna sang at Wembley, was a dismal 4.5million. Three times as many viewers saw the Princess Diana tribute on the same channel six days before.

Two years ago, Live 8 drew a peak television audience of 9.6million while Live Aid notched 10million in 1985.

The BBC blamed the poor figures on Saturday’s good weather and said its Wimbledon tennis coverage had drawn away afternoon viewers.

Critics said however that the public had simply snubbed what they saw as a hypocritical event.

Musicians including Bob Geldof, Roger Daltrey and the Pet Shop Boys pointed out that a concert highlighting climate change had itself generated huge carbon emissions.

Performers were criticised for flying to concerts that were staged simultaneously on seven continents.

The BBC’s coverage, which ran for 15 hours from 12.30pm on Saturday to 4am yesterday, also sparked dozens of complaints about bad language.

The swearing started at 1.30pm when Phil Collins, the first act on in London, used the f-word while singing with his band Genesis.

Razorlight singer Johnny Borrell used the same expletive a few minutes later in one of his songs. And Chris Rock swore while introducing fellow comic Ricky Gervais, who soon followed suit.

Syria Threatens Resistance by September

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Isaiah 17:1: Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

GOLAN HEIGHTS – If Israel doesn’t vacate the strategic Golan Heights before September, Syrian guerrillas will immediately launch “resistance operations” against the Golan’s Jewish communities, a top official from Syrian President Bashar Assad’s Baath party told WND.

The Baath official, who spoke on condition his name be withheld, said Damascus is preparing for anticipated Israeli retaliation following Syrian guerrilla attacks and for a larger war with the Jewish state in August or September. He said in the opening salvo of any conflict, Syria has the capabilities of firing “hundreds” of missiles at Tel Aviv.

“Syria passed repeated messages to the U.S. that we demand the return of the Golan either through negotiations or through war. If the Golan is not in our hands by August or September, we will be poised to launch resistance, including raids and attacks against Jewish positions (in the Golan Heights),” the Baath official said.

The Golan Heights is strategic mountainous territory looking down on Israeli population centers captured by Israel after Syria twice used the territory to attack the Jewish state.

Sheehan Back and May Run Against Pelosi

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Several months ago we told you that Cindy Sheehan, war protester with an over-emphasized self-importance, was retiring from ‘all things anti-war’. It is with great regret we now inform you that she lied.

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) – Cindy Sheehan, the soldier’s mother who galvanized the anti-war movement, said Sunday that she plans to seek House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat unless she introduces articles of impeachment against President Bush in the next two weeks.
Sheehan said she will run against the San Francisco Democrat in 2008 as an independent if Pelosi does not seek by July 23 to impeach Bush. That’s when Sheehan and her supporters are to arrive in Washington, D.C., after a 13-day caravan and walking tour starting next week from the group’s war protest site near Bush’s Crawford ranch.

“Democrats and Americans feel betrayed by the Democratic leadership,” Sheehan told The Associated Press. “We hired them to bring an end to the war. I’m not too far from San Francisco, so it wouldn’t be too big of a move for me. I would give her a run for her money.”

Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly said the congresswoman has said repeatedly that her focus is on ending the war in Iraq.

“She believes that the best way to support our troops in Iraq is to bring them home safely and soon,” Daly said in an e-mail to the AP. “July will be a month of action in Congress to end the war, including a vote to redeploy our troops by next spring.”

The White House declined to comment on Sheehan’s plans.

She plans her official candidacy announcement Tuesday. Sunday wrapped up what is expected to be her final weekend at the 5-acre Crawford lot that she sold to California radio talk show host Bree Walker, who plans to keep it open to protesters.

“The land itself has historical value,” Walker said. “It is the first people’s movement of the 21st century, and it needs to be kept as the hallowed ground that it is.”

Sheehan announced in late May that she was leaving the anti-war movement. She said that she felt her efforts had been in vain and that she had endured smear tactics and hatred from the left, as well as the right. She said she wanted to change course.

She first came to Crawford in August 2005 during a Bush vacation, demanding to talk to him about the war that killed her son Casey in She became the face of the anti-war movement during her 26-day roadside vigil, which was joined by thousands. But it also drew counter-protests by Bush supporters, many who said she was hurting troop morale.

“Kowtowing to Islam Doesn’t Work” by Todd Strandberg

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Let’s play a little guessing game that I like to call “Guess who’s behind the bombing.” You turn your TV to the news and find live coverage of a bombing at a crowded public place. Now, who would you guess is responsible for this attack?

If you’re stumped, I’ll give you another clue. The bomber died in the attack, and the victims were innocent civilians.

Over the past few years, I’ve been playing this game several times, and each time I have correctly guessed that the attacker was a member of a Muslim extremist group. God has not blessed me with special powers. I’ve based my answers on a rather strong historical pattern.

I knew right away what type of group planted the two car bombs that were found in London’s nightclub and theater district. The next day when a car crashed into the Glasgow Airport and burst into flames, it was no surprise to me that the Islam would be connected to that attack.

The world would become a strange and unfamiliar place if all the facets of the Islamic faith suddenly decided to stop trying to kill people. You would no longer need to arrive at the airport an hour and half before your flight time, the national guard would be back in the US attending to natural disasters, there would be no need for a Department of Homeland Security, and terrorism experts would all be on welfare.

With Islamic groups having such a predictable track record, I’m puzzled by efforts to defend this faith. London Mayor Ken Livingstone has urged Britons to restrain from demonizing the Muslims in the wake of a foiled double car bomb plot.

“In this city, Muslims are more likely to be law-abiding than non-Muslims and less likely to support the use of violence to achieve political ends,” he told BBC Radio. “All I am interested in as mayor is that we try to prevent all acts of violence whether it is by a disaffected young member of the (far-right) British National Party, or by an Islamist or a Wahhabist supporter,” he said (“Don’t Demonize Muslims,” Yahoo News, July 2, 2007).

Like a lot of conservative Christians, I’ve just about lost all respect for President Bush. History will probably rank his administration somewhere next to the catastrophic Carter years. The breaking point for me has been his endless kowtowing to Islam.

President Bush has given such frequent praise to the followers of Mohammed, some Evangelicals have started to wonder if apart from being the Commander in Chief, he is also the Theologian in Chief. Here are a few choice quotes from the Muslims For Bush website:

“The Islam that we know is a faith devoted to the worship of one God, as revealed through The Holy Qur’an. It teaches the value and the importance of charity, mercy, and peace.” November 15, 2001

“Because this great nation of many religions understands, our war is not against Islam, or against faith practiced by the Muslim people.” January 5, 2002

“Islam is a faith that brings comfort to a billion people around the world. It’s a faith that has made brothers and sisters of every race. It’s a faith based upon love, not hate.” President Bush, September 10, 2002

“I do say that freedom is the Almighty’s gift to every person. I also condition it by saying freedom is not America’s gift to the world,” Bush replied. “It’s much greater than that, of course. And I believe we worship the same God,” November 2003

” America believes that as a European power, Turkey belongs in the European Union. Your membership would also be a crucial advance in relations between the Muslim world and the West, because you are part of both. Including Turkey in the EU would prove that Europe is not the exclusive club of a single religion, and it would expose the “clash of civilizations” as a passing myth of history.” June 29th, 2004

In his latest move to appease Islam, President Bush said he will name a special envoy to the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), which represents 57 Muslim countries. Bush would be the first president to make such an appointment. He made the announcement at a ceremony honoring the 50th anniversary of the Islamic Center of Washington. It was Bush’s third trip to the mosque.

State Department spokesman Gonzo Gallegos said, “The important thing is that we all know and understand that belief is central,” says Gallegos. “Belief in God is central to our existence on earth, and … the president is working to ensure that Muslims know and understand that our faith and their faith coincide and that we live together in harmony.”

All this kissing up to Islamic nation has gotten us nowhere. Polls show unprecedented levels of anti-American feeling in the Muslim world. In Saudi Arabia, 79 percent had an “unfavorable view” of the US . In Jordan and Pakistan , 65 percent of the population has a negative view of America. Iran, surprisingly, was one of the friendlier countries with only 52 percent of the folks there giving us the thumbs down.

The mayor of London, President Bush, and the folks at the State Department are clearly way off base. I wonder if they have ever picked up the Koran and read it, talked with a former Muslim, or considered the fact that Israel has been dealing with them since 1948? In case any of them are reading this article, here is a good place to start:

8:12 …make firm those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.

9:005 …slay the idolaters wherever you find them…take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush…

9:14 Fight them, Allah will punish them by your hands and bring them to disgrace, and assist you against them and heal the hearts of a believing people.

47:4 …when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make (them) prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom (themselves) until the war terminates…(as for) those who are slain in the way of Allah…

47:35 Be not fainthearted then; and invite not the infidels to peace when ye have the upper hand: for God is with you, and will not defraud you of the recompense of your works…

Despite what President Bush says, the god of Islam is not the God of Christians. In my opinion, Islam is not a religion, but rather a way of life. As long as Islam exists, Muslims will never get along with anybody except other Muslims, and even they have fought among themselves for centuries.

You can’t placate someone who is willing to blow himself up for some trivial cause. When you add the demonic dimension to this problem, the chance to fail rises to 100 percent. Prophecy indicates there will be no lasting solution to the Arab/Israeli problem, the key cause of most Islamic terror, until the Prince of Peace comes to put an end to all conflict.

“What Michael Moore Left on the Cutting Room Floor” By Helen Evans

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Michael Moore’s denunciation of America’s health-care system is about to hit the silver screen. In the film’s trailer, a desk attendant at a British hospital smiles while explaining that in Britain’s National Health Service, “everything is free.” But for free hospital care, Britons pay an awfully high price.

Just ask the nearly 1 million British patients on waiting lists for treatment. Or the 200,000 Britons currently waiting merely to get on NHS waiting lists. Mr. Moore must have missed those folks.

Curiously, though, many American policymakers seem to think that a government-managed, NHS-style system is the answer to all of America’s health-care woes. Before heading down that road, however, America’s leaders ought to actually investigate Britain’s experience with state-sponsored medical care.

Upon launching its state health service in 1948, the British government promised that it would provide its citizens with all the “medical, dental and nursing care” needed, so that “everyone — rich or poor — [could] use it.” To make good on its plans, the government nationalized more than 3,000 independent hospitals, clinics and care homes.

But today, after nearly six decades of attempting to make socialized medicine work, the NHS is in a perilous state.

Consider waiting lists. Across Britain, patients wait years for routine — or even emergency — treatments. And many die while waiting.

Indeed, the NHS cancels around 100,000 operations because of shortages each year. In a growing number of communities, it is increasingly difficult for people to simply get an appointment with an NHS general practitioner for a regular checkup.

Further, when it comes to keeping patients healthy, NHS hospitals are notoriously unfit. After admittance to state hospitals, more than 10 percent of patients contract infections and illnesses that they did not have prior to arrival. And according to the Malnutrition Advisory Group, up to 60 percent of NHS patients are undernourished during inpatient stays.

Consequently, many Britons have turned to outside practitioners for treatment, and the private health-care market has boomed. Today, more than 6.5 million people have private medical insurance, 6 million have cash plans, 8 million pay out-of-pocket for a range of complimentary therapies, and 250,000 self-fund each year for private surgery. Millions more opt for private dentistry, ophthalmics and long-term care.

Meanwhile, despite the state’s continued claims that it can deliver quality health care to all, government ministers are increasingly willing to quietly outsource health care to the private sector. In other words, instead of directly providing health care through the NHS, the British government is shifting to simply paying the bills.
