Lutherans Urged to Accept Homosexual Ministers

Monday, August 13th, 2007

The leadership of the Lutheran Church continues to reject Biblical teachings and accept the world view of homosexuality. Please continue to pray for the people of this fellowship, that they will be able to compel their leadership to do what the Bible teaches and reject the normalization of homosexuality and calling this sin “good”.

A national assembly of Evangelical Lutherans urged its bishops Saturday to refrain from defrocking gay and lesbian ministers who violate a celibacy rule, but rejected measures that would have permitted ordaining gays churchwide.

Still, advocates for full inclusion of gays were encouraged, calling the resolution a powerful statement in support of clergy with same-gender partners. The conservative group Lutheran CORE, however, said bishops will now feel more secure in ignoring denomination policy.

The 538-431 vote came on the final day of a weeklong meeting in Chicago — and after emotional debate over how the denomination should interpret what the Bible says about homosexuality.

Like other mainline Protestant groups, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has been struggling for decades to reconcile differences on the issue. An ELCA task force is near the end of an eight-year study on human sexuality, which is expected to culminate in the 2009 release of a social statement that will heavily influence church policy.

The assembly voted to refer proposals on ordaining gays and blessing same-sex couples to the task force so the panel can make policy recommendations part of its report.

The current clergy standards require ministers to “abstain from homosexual sexual relationships.” Earlier this year, Bradley Schmeling, an ELCA pastor in Atlanta, was removed from the clergy roster after he told his bishop that he was in a relationship with a man. However, even before Saturday’s vote, liberal-leaning bishops had refused to enforce the rule.

In the adopted resolution, the assembly “urges and encourages” bishops to either refrain from or “demonstrate restraint in disciplining” ministers who are in a “mutual, chaste and faithful committed same-gender relationship.”

“This is huge,” said Phil Soucy of Lutherans Concerned/North America, which lobbies on behalf of gays and lesbians. “More than half of the people in the Churchwide Assembly have said don’t punish anyone for what is a simple violation of the policy, where the offense is simply that they have a partner.”

At the Chicago gathering, dozens of gay and lesbian ministers and congregants defiantly proclaimed their sexuality. They distributed a prayer booklet that included first-person essays on the pain of being forced to choose between ministry and a lifelong partner. Theological liberals believe that the overarching message of Scripture is full acceptance for all people.

But Jaynan Clark Egland, president of the conservative WordAlone Network, said the resolution “leaves the ELCA with inconsistent patterns of discipline and standards.”

Conservatives believe the Bible bars gay relationships. “To refrain from discipline in the home is bad parenting, but we’re about to do so in Christ’s Church,” Egland said.

Lutheran CORE scheduled a September meeting to plan its next step. But the Rev. Mark Chavez of WordAlone says conservatives aren’t planning a split from the denomination.

Membership in the 4.8 million-member ELCA, like other mainline churches, has declined over the last two decades; only 30 percent of Evangelical Lutherans attend worship weekly.

The 2.5 million-member Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, based in St. Louis, believes the Bible is literally true and does not ordain gays.

US Distributes Millions To Purchase Street Cameras

Monday, August 13th, 2007

It seems that cameras have been installed on every street corner of our town (and the surrounding towns). I have heard at least 10 people say that they were sent a speeding ticket that included a picture of them in their car. I am all for police catching people who violate laws, but this is going too far. This is setting the stage for the antichrist’s government to be able to monitor people to make sure they are in ‘compliance’.

The Department of Homeland Security is funneling millions of dollars to local governments nationwide for purchasing high-tech video camera networks, accelerating the rise of a “surveillance society” in which the sense of freedom that stems from being anonymous in public will be lost, privacy rights advocates warn.

Breaking News Alerts Since 2003, the department has handed out some $23 billion in federal grants to local governments for equipment and training to help combat terrorism. Most of the money paid for emergency drills and upgrades to basic items, from radios to fences. But the department also has doled out millions on surveillance cameras, transforming city streets and parks into places under constant observation.

The department will not say how much of its taxpayer-funded grants have gone to cameras. But a Globe search of local newspapers and congressional press releases shows that a large number of new surveillance systems, costing at least tens and probably hundreds of millions of dollars, are being simultaneously installed around the country as part of homeland security grants.

In the last month, cities that have moved forward on plans for surveillance networks financed by the Homeland Security Department include St. Paul, which got a $1.2 million grant for 60 cameras for downtown; Madison, Wis., which is buying a 32-camera network with a $388,000 grant; and Pittsburgh, which is adding 83 cameras to its downtown with a $2.58 million grant.

Small towns are also getting their share of the federal money for surveillance to thwart crime and terrorism.

Mystery at Goose Creek: Who Are the Accused Pipe Bomb Boys?

Monday, August 13th, 2007

This has totally fallen off the Mainstream Media radar. Not sure what is going on here, but we should keep an eye on it.
Michelle Malkin has this to say:

Last weekend, I noted the arrest of Yousef Megahed, 21, and Ahmed Mohamed, 24, in the vicinity of the Naval Weapons Station, located in Goose Creek, South Carolina. National media scrutiny since the men were charged with possession of pipe bombs has been scant. Some MSM reports read like CAIR press releases. The AP dispatch carried in the Miami Herald concludes: “Some have suggested the men were targeted because of their ethnicity. Mohamed is a native of Kuwait and Megahed is Egyptian. Both are in the country legally. The arrests were ‘absolutely wrong,’ said Chaudhry Sadiq, director of the South Carolina chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.”

Fortunately, local Florida media and bloggers have kept a close eye. And there have been some very newsworthy developments. The Tampa Tribune reports today that the FBI has raided a home in connection with the accused Pipe Bomb Boys:

The FBI searched a Temple Terrace home Saturday morning in connection with the two University of South Florida students jailed in South Carolina on charges of possessing a pipe bomb.

Authorities had a search warrant for 12402 Pampas Place, FBI special agent Dave Couvertier said. He would not say what authorities were looking for, what was removed or how the house is connected to the two students.

The house is owned by Noor and Ana Salhab, according to the Hillsborough County property appraiser’s Web site.

Ahmed Bedier, executive director of the Tampa office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said late Saturday he and the family of one of the students, Youssef Megahed, were unaware of the search warrant.

Bedier spoke to Noor Salhab, who is a Realtor and owns the home. Salhab told Bedier the Pampas Place home has been for sale for a year. Bedier said Salhab said the house is rented to college students until it’s sold.

A friend of the other jailed student is a tenant of the house, Salhab told Bedier. Ahmed Mohamed was looking to move and was invited by the friend to move in. Salhab told Bedier he never met Mohamed.

Mohamed had moved some of his belongings to the house but never fully moved in or paid anything, Salhab told Bedier. Salhab told Bedier he didn’t know Mohamed had moved things in until the search warrant by the FBI.

Okay, now what the Tampa Tribune doesn’t tell you is that 12402 Pampas Place just happens to be the address of a home that had been rented previously to WISE (World and Islam Studies Enterprise), one of two groups founded by convicted jihad supporter Sami Al-Arian, who was a professor at University of South Florida–the same university that Megahed and Mohamed attend. Dan Riehl has much more. Tampa’s Fox 13 shows investigators removing PVC piping from the home:

“Anything For a Vote” by Michael G. Mickey

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Some politicians absolutely make me sick, particularly when it comes to doing anything to get votes, even if those votes come from those actively engaged in forwarding the homosexual agenda, the end result of which, if allowed to happen, will see the United States of America looking more like Sodom and Gomorrah than ever before.

Thursday night the Human Rights Campaign held a Democratic presidential debate. For starters, as seen in a Cybercast News Service article, all the candidates pledged to repeal the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy that bars homosexuals from openly serving in the military.

Ultra-liberal Hillary Clinton, according to CNS, had the following to say on the topic of repealing ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Thursday night – an example of how far the Left has drifted from the will of God: “I want to get [the repeal] done when I’m president. I want to do it, and I want to be successful. We’re talking about what steps we can take to lay the groundwork so that when we do have a change in the White House … we will be able to move on that. It is one of my highest priorities.”

Did you get that, Christians? Forwarding the homosexualization of the United States military is one of Hillary Clinton’s highest priorities in a time of war. If you didn’t have a good reason not to vote for her before, there’s one!

Matt Barber, policy director for cultural issues for Concerned Women of America or CWA, offered the following retort to Mrs. Clinton’s position as seen in the article: “We should all be grateful that Sen. Clinton has recognized the need to repeal certain initiatives her husband spearheaded during his administration. Apparently, allowing homosexual men and women in the military to advertise their chosen lifestyle represents the only ‘troop surge’ liberals will support.”

Amen to that!

Barber also said, “It’s very disturbing that liberals are preparing, during a time of war, to ramp up efforts to inject their San Francisco brand of moral relativism into one of the last sound corners of a morally misguided and politically correct society.”

From my perspective, while it’s disturbing to see the liberals being just what they are, the worse part of reading their words spoken is what this trend on their part is symbolic of concerning the declining spirituality of our nation where adherence to the Word of God is concerned.

Truly we are living in the last days when men and women running for the highest office in the land can openly advocate a lifestyle that God has forbidden without any fear whatsoever that doing so will completely eliminate their opportunity to ever occupy 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as a long-term resident!

Not only that, have any of the Democratic candidates heard of how God dealt with the people of Sodom due to their sinfulness – sinfulness from which the word ‘sodomy’ originated?

2nd Peter 2:6 tells us that the Lord, “turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly.”

I don’t know about any of you but I think, if we truly believe in the Word of God, we should take Him at His word when He says He made an example of Sodom and Gomorrah for others to see and think long and hard before we support anyone who would endanger our nation as the Democrats seem willing to.

Young Girls Going Wild, But at What Consequences?

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Many of us have been saying for years that glamorizing sex, especially in our young people, is not a good thing, for many reasons. Now it appears that the APA (American Psychological Association) may have actually caught up with common sense.

“Role models” like amateur porn star Paris Hilton and her underwear-challenged cohorts Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan are prompting more and more young girls to “go wild,” but with negative consequences.

Mental health experts say more and more youngsters are being influenced by the “sexualization of girls,” a term coined in a report released earlier this year by the American Psychological Association.

The research analyzed the content and effects of virtually every form of media, including television, music videos, music lyrics, magazines, movies, video games and the Internet. It also examined recent advertising campaigns and merchandising of products aimed toward girls.

What they found was a sort of “Girls Gone Wild” effect in which young girls are succumbing to the pressure of sexualization by posting nude pictures of themselves on the Internet, allowing boyfriends to photograph them in the nude and making their own amateur porn videos.

“The consequences of the sexualization of girls in media today are very real and are likely to be a negative influence on girls’ healthy development,” said Eileen L. Zurbriggen, PhD, chairwoman of the APA Task Force and associate professor of psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, earlier this year in reference to the report.

As a result of an over-sexed society, young girls are reaping the following mental health issues:

Cognitive and Emotional Consequences: Sexualization and objectification undermine a person’s confidence in and comfort with her own body, leading to emotional and self-image problems, such as shame and anxiety.

Mental and Physical Health: Research links sexualization with three of the most common mental health problems diagnosed in girls and women—eating disorders, low self-esteem, and depression or depressed mood.

Sexual Development: Research suggests that the sexualization of girls has negative consequences on girls’ ability to develop a healthy sexual self-image.

“As a society, we need to replace all of these sexualized images with ones showing girls in positive settings—ones that show the uniqueness and competence of girls,” said Zurbriggen. “The goal should be to deliver messages to all adolescents—boys and girls—that lead to healthy sexual development.”

Abortionist Kill Babies in Womb to Avoid Possible Criminal Prosecution

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Abortion is worth a lot of money to these doctors, so don’t expect them to give it without it being outlawed. But in the terms of the so-called “partial birth abortion”, since this procedure has now been outlawed, doctors are making sure to kill the baby, while it is still in the womb, so make sure they don’t come under possible liability of performing a “partial birth” abortion.
People, how have we fallen so far from the people of integrity we used to be in this country?

In response to the Supreme Court decision upholding the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, many abortion providers in Boston and around the country have adopted a defensive tactic. To avoid any chance of partially delivering a live fetus, they are injecting fetuses with lethal drugs before procedures.

That clinical shift in late-term abortions goes deeply against the grain, some doctors say: It poses a slight risk to the woman and offers her no medical benefit.

“We do not believe that our patients should take a risk for which the only clear benefit is a legal one to the physician,” Dr. Philip D. Darney, chief of obstetrics at San Francisco General Hospital, wrote in e-mail. He has chosen not to use the injections.

But others, although they do not perform the banned procedure, feel compelled to do all they can to protect themselves and their staff from the possibility of being accused. Upheld in April, the federal ban is broadly written, does not specify an age for the fetus, and carries a two-year prison sentence.

In Boston, three major Harvard-affiliated hospitals — Massachusetts General, Brigham and Women’s, and Beth Israel Deaconess — have responded to the ban by making the injections the new standard operating procedure for abortions beginning at around 20 weeks’ gestation, said Dr. Michael F. Greene, director of obstetrics at Mass. General.

“No physician even wants to be accused of stumbling into accidentally doing one of these procedures,” Greene said.

Boston Medical Center, too, has begun using injections for later surgical abortions, said Dr. Phillip Stubblefield, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Boston University Medical School. The decision came “after a lot of anguish about what to do,” he said.

The banned method involves partially delivering a live fetus, then intentionally causing its death. Even before it was banned, the procedure was exceedingly rare, accounting for a fraction of 1 percent of all abortions.

Instead, doctors typically cause the fetus’s death surgically while it is still inside the womb and then remove it.

But now, if the fetus is not dead as it begins to emerge, a provider may be accused of violating the law. So the lethal injections beforehand, carefully documented, are aimed at precluding an accusation and prosecution.

Greene said that in the experienced hands of hospital staff, the injections add no risk and are “trivially simple,” compared with other obstetrical procedures. The main downside, he said, is that “it is yet another procedure that the patient has to endure.”

Patients have not objected to the injections, he said.

“They all are appreciative of what we do for them and understand the circumstances under which we work,” Greene said.

The injections are generally done in abortions after 18 or 20 weeks gestation. (Massachusetts bans virtually all abortions at and beyond the 24th week, except to protect the life or health of the mother.) Medical staff inject either the heart drug digoxin or potassium chloride, a potentially poisonous salt also used in state executions.
