Obituary: Common Sense

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were lost long ago in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn’t always fair, and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student; but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know my Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I’m a Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Abortion Forum Cracks Whip on ‘Dissidents’

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

I may be completely wrong on this note, but I feel that the abortion issue is starting to tilt in favor of pro-life. Many people have started to realize just what abortion is all about. These pro-abortion people who are starting to doubt certain aspects of abortion are now coming under fire from their cohorts.

An event held in New York last week that was promoted as an abortion forum was actually designed to “crack the whip” on dissent within the pro-abortion movement. That’s according to a spokeswoman for an organization that reaches out to women and men who suffer from the after-effects of abortion.

Billed as an “international ethical discussion,” the event was titled “What’s So Bad About Abortion?” Speakers included the chief executive of British Pregnancy Advisory Service, the leading provider of abortion services in the United Kingdom, as well as officials with NARAL Pro-Choice America, National Abortion Federation, and the Reproductive Health Technologies Project — all of which, along with Catholics for a Free Choice, were sponsors of the two-hour event on August 9.

But leaders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign — the nation’s largest network of women and men harmed by abortion — say the event was not a forum or debate, but instead was a disciplinary meeting where those in the abortion movement were told to fall in line. Georgette Forney with Silent No More explains that some people in the abortion movement actually do not favor partial-birth abortion and want to care for post-abortive women. According to Forney, they are viewed as dissenters.

“They were quite aggressive in basically saying it’s an in-house meeting to [address] those who are starting to say things like ‘gosh, maybe we do need to be helping women after they have abortions, because there are some psychological after-effects,'” she explains.

Forney says leaders in the pro-abortion movement do not want that kind of information being promoted by their people. “So they’re bringing their people together to yell at them,” she adds.

The pro-life advocate contends that organizers of this event purposely posed the question “what’s so bad about abortion?” to mock anyone who expresses the slightest queasiness about ripping an unborn baby’s limbs apart or who feels remorse for a lost life.

Hamas TV’s Child Star Says She’s Ready for Martyrdom

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

The child abuse of Hamas continues to be productive in turning out children who have learned their lessons of hatred of all thing Israeli. In the latest act of barbarity, the child co-host of the hate filled program ‘Tomorrow’s Pioneers’. Sounds innocuous enough, doesn’t it? Well, it is actually a program that teaches hate of Israel and the need to attack and destroy all things Israeli, to children in Palestine. From the comments from it’s 11 year old co-host, it seems to be working.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Saraa Barhoum picked at the buttons on her pink bellbottom jeans as she twisted on a chair inside the bustling new Hamas television headquarters. The afternoon light bounced off the sparkly outlines of butterflies on her frilly top, and a colorful hijab framed her 11-year-old face.

Saraa wants to be a doctor. If she can’t, the young star of Hamas television’s best-known children’s show said, she’d be proud to become a martyr. Saraa says little Jewish girls should be forced from their homes in Israel so that Palestinians can return to their land.

With the show’s producer helpfully offering written tips during an interview, Saraa didn’t get into how she hopes to die for her cause, be it suicide bombing, fighting the Israeli military or some other way. She carefully sidestepped any suggestion that she’s subtly calling for the destruction of Israel.

”Israel says that we are terrorists,” Saraa said minutes before an interview with her was interrupted by an errant Israeli airstrike that slammed into an apartment building on the adjacent block. ”But they are the ones that must stop their attacks against us and our kids.”

Saraa is the sweet face of ”Tomorrow’s Pioneers,” a weekly, hour-long Hamas television children’s show best known for bringing the world a militant Mickey Mouse look-alike and then having him killed off by an Israeli interrogator.

With her jarring mix of innocent charm and militant rhetoric, Saraa is at the center of the militant Islamist group’s increasingly sophisticated campaign to become the dominant force in Palestinian politics.

”Hamas is fighting a political war for the hearts and minds of the West Bank and Gaza Strip,” said Robert A. Pape, a University of Chicago political science professor and the author of ”Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism.”

”They are trying to show that they are the true heart-and-soul of the community, all the way down to an 11-year-old-girl,” Pape added.

Since it went on the air last year in the Gaza Strip, the Hamas-funded al-Aqsa television has gained momentum and expanded its audience to include the West Bank.

Taking a lead from Hezbollah’s al-Manar television station in Beirut, Hamas is using al-Aqsa to promote its agenda and challenge its rivals, in this case Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and his fractured Fatah allies.

During its decisive June military showdown with Fatah in Gaza, Hamas used its television station to broadcast footage of Fatah leaders joking with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other Bush administration officials. The message was clear: Fatah is in bed with America. After Fatah lost Gaza to Hamas, Fatah forces laid siege to al-Aqsa’s offices in the West Bank and arrested several employees.

The station, which operates with a license from the Palestinian Authority, also features religious lessons, cartoons, advice shows and militant music videos. One video hailed a female suicide bomber whose young daughter vows to follow her mother’s example.

”Tomorrow’s Pioneers” sparked an international furor in April when it began featuring Farfour, the Mickey Mouse look-alike who sounded more like Iran’s firebrand President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad than a Disney character.

Mustafa Barghouti, then serving as the Palestinian Authority’s information minister, called the show a ”mistaken approach” to helping Palestinians and tried unsuccessfully to force the show off the year.

The Israeli government and activists who monitor Palestinian programming accused Hamas of poisoning the minds of young children with the show.

After two months, Farfour was beaten to death on the show by an Israeli interrogator. Nahoul, a larger-than-life bee, is now carrying his message.

”A lot of people in Palestine have died as martyrs, and lots of Palestinians hope to be martyrs,” Saraa said of Farfour’s demise. ”This is one of the ends.”

Asked if she hoped one day to be a martyr, Saraa instinctively nodded her head.

”Of course,” Saraa said. ”It’s something to be proud of. Every Palestinian citizen hopes to be a martyr.”

Saraa helps deliver similar messages to Palestinian children from a Hamas TV set filled with colorful numbers and pictures of kittens. During the show, Saraa fields calls from Palestinian children who warble songs about Islam, liberating Jerusalem and finding answers in the barrel of a machine gun.

On one show, she cut off a caller who was singing about surrendering herself, presumably to God’s will.

”We don’t want to surrender,” Saraa told the caller. ”We want to resist.”

The show has provided new fodder for Israeli activists, who say that Saraa is the true face of Hamas, an extremist group that’s using an innocent front to conceal its real agenda.

Woman Charged with Kidnap, Rape of 10-Year-Old Student

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Another case of a teacher praying on our children. Where do they get the idea that this is in any way acceptable??

A former elementary school teacher in Tacoma, Wash., is behind bars for allegedly kidnapping and raping her 10-year-old student numerous times.

Jennifer Rice, 31, is said to have met the fourth-grade boy shortly after being hired last year as a replacement teacher at McKinley Elementary School.

She was taken into custody Saturday and booked into the Pierce County Jail for investigation of kidnapping, five counts of first-degree child rape, and four counts of child molestation.

Rice pleaded not guilty yesterday as she’s being held on $500,000 bail.

Police documents indicate Rice took the boy with her when she left a party in his East Tacoma neighborhood around 3 a.m. Thursday. Authorities claim the two were headed for an amusement park in Idaho when they stopped at a rest area, napped and then had sex.

The documents also say the boy’s father told police he had asked Rice to stay away from his son a month ago when he became concerned about the interest Rice showed in his son. The father says Rice had been to their house to watch movies with the boy, had taken him on trips, and chatted often with him on the phone as well as Internet.

The boy’s family reportedly called Rice as soon as they discovered the child was missing. According to police, Rice told them she had not seen the boy, though the child called family members a short time later to let them know he was safe.

Prosecutors say the boy was then dropped off at his uncle’s house in Puyallup, Wash., after police told Rice an Amber Alert was being issued, with information on her vehicle.

Officials say Rice admitted she raped the boy at the rest stop before driving him back, and court documents indicate the pair had intercourse several times on previous occasions, including once in the boy’s home.

According to the Tacoma School District, Rice was hired last October and placed on leave in April. Her contract was not renewed after McKinley Elementary received complaints she was socializing inappropriately with students.

Rice is just the latest case in a national “sexpidemic” of women teachers having sex with their students, as WND has been documenting.

Note: The entire list of women teachers can be seen here.

Are Baseball Umpires Racist?

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

OK, Time has bunted foul on the third strike on this one and I’m calling them “out”. Yup, right hand in the “hammer” with a loud shout of “HE’S OUT”. Ahhh…that felt good…but I digress…
Having spend a significant amount of time behind the plate and working bases, I can say this about bad calls…we are human. Yup, despite what you may hear about our family linage from disgruntled parents and fans, we are all actually human and not some mutant form of bacteria.
As such, human that is, we are prone to occasionally make mistakes. That translates into bad calls.
“Time” has decided that instead of being human and actually making mistakes, we (umpires, that is) are racist. They came to this conclusion by citing a study led by Daniel Hamermesh, a professor of economics at the University of Texas at Austin. He claims that Major League Baseball umpires tend to call more strikes when the pitcher is of their same race; when they’re not, umps call more balls.
Yeah, OK…whatever. I call what I see. Period.

Bad calls by the ump are as much a part of baseball as home run records, rabid fans and watery beer, but a new study shows that an umpire’s decision may have a disturbing ulterior motive: racism.

According to the new study led by Daniel Hamermesh, a professor of economics at the University of Texas at Austin, Major League Baseball umpires tend to call more strikes when the pitcher is of their same race; when they’re not, umps call more balls. It doesn’t happen all the time — in about 1% of pitches thrown — but that’s still one pitch per game, and it could be the one that makes the difference. “One pitch called the other way affects things a lot,” says Hamermesh. “Baseball is a very closely played game.” What’s more, says Hamermesh, a slight umpire bias affects more than just the score; it also has an indirect effect on a team’s psyche. Baseball is a game of strategy. If a pitcher knows he’s more likely to get questionable pitches called as strikes, he’ll start picking off at the corners. But if he knows he’s at a disadvantage, he might feel forced to throw more directly over the plate, possibly giving up hits.

In the new study, Hamermesh’s team analyzed the calls on 2.1 million pitches thrown in the Major League between the 2004 and 2006 seasons. Controlling for all other outside factors, such as the pitcher’s tendency to throw strikes, the umpires’ tendency to call strikes and the batter’s ability to attract balls, researchers found evidence of same-race bias — and the data revealed that the bias benefits mostly white pitchers. Not surprising, since 71% of MLB pitchers and 87% of umpires are white.

The highest percentage of strikes were called when both the home-plate umpire and pitcher were white, and the lowest percentage were called between a white ump and a black pitcher. The study also found that minority umpires judged Asian pitchers more unfairly than they did white pitchers. It’s a significant disadvantage for Asian pitchers because the MLB doesn’t have any Asian umpires. Interestingly enough, Hamermesh’s research found that the race of the batter didn’t seem to matter — the correlation was only between the pitcher and the home-plate ump. Rich Levin, an MLB spokesman, refused to comment on the research findings.

“From the Arctic To The Caribbean” by Jack Kinsella

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

National union leaders from the United States and Canada are growing more vocal in their opposition to the highly-secretive Security and Prosperity Alliance between Mexico, the US and Canada.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is calling for a “National Week of Action” from August 10-16 to protest the SPP, even though hardly anyone knows what it really is.

There are endless versions of the SPP, its goals, its leadership, its Constitutionality, and all of them different. The SPP is one of those ‘hide in plain sight’ conspiracy theories.

Simply stated, the best way place hide a conspiracy is among a dozen conspiracy theories.

In the movie, “Conspiracy Theory” a few years back, Mel Gibson’s character laid out, in detail, the complete Money Trust conspiracy, from Nathan Meyer Rothschild through the Federal Reserve to the current global economic systems.

Everything Gibson’s character related was true, but it was delivered by a character who had been subjected by the CIA to mind-altering drugs and brainwashing experiments.

The film delivered a subliminal message that linked the facts about the Money Trust to the rantings a wild-eyed, delusional paranoid in the minds of the viewers. The secret of the Money Trust conspiracy is now safely hidden in plain sight.

The best way to hide a Zippo lighter sitting in plain sight on a coffee table is to surround it by fifty identical Zippo lighters. The Security and Prosperity Partnership is using the same tactics.

We were recently in Austin, Texas, where the first part of the North American Superhighway is being built along I-35. The construction — and the reasons for it — are no secret to the citizens of Austin.

We went out to dinner with Austin resident (and OL member) Barb Hvasu and several of her friends, (all of whom, as I recall, were lawyers. From our table, we could see the construction taking place on I-35.)

We discussed the construction project, the North American Corridor, the Security and Prosperity Partnership, and everybody at that table knew all the details.

But they didn’t know if it was true — or if it were just another one of the anti-Bush conspiracy theories being floated.

According to the official SPP website:

“The SPP is a White House-led initiative among the United States and the two nations it borders – Canada and Mexico – to increase security and to enhance prosperity among the three countries through greater cooperation.

The SPP is meant to:

1. Coordinate our security efforts to better protect U.S. citizens from terrorist threats and transnational crime and promote the safe and efficient movement of legitimate people and goods;

2. Expand economic opportunity for all our people by making our businesses more competitive in the global marketplace, cutting red tape, and providing consumers with safe, less expensive, and innovative products; and

3. Enhance our common efforts to combat infectious diseases, develop responses to man-made or natural disasters to enhance our citizens’ quality of life, protect our people and our environment, and improve consumer safety.

But according to the CUPE’s press release calling for a week of protests, the SPP is;” essentially NAFTA-plus-Homeland Security, firmly rooted within a colonial and capitalist framework.”

And according to Michael Medved, those who either question or protest the imposition of the Security and Prosperity Agreement are; “a shameless collection of lunatics and losers; crooks, cranks, demagogues, and opportunists” who are whipping up a “mounting hysteria over the looming menace of a ‘North American Union.’”

Medved characterizes the argument as “a secret master plan to join the U.S., Canada and Mexico in one big super-state and then to replace the good old Yankee dollar with a worthless new currency called ‘The Amero.’”

He calls the Trans-Texas Corridor is another “delusion” that “involves the construction of a ‘Monster Highway’ some sixteen lanes wide through Texas and the Great Plains, connecting the two nations on either side of the border for some nefarious but never-explained purpose.”

(We drove through endless miles of construction zones for that ‘delusion’ along I-35 earlier this summer. Seemed real enough to us.)

Jerome Corsi calls it an illegal and secret end run around the US Constitution, being planned by unknown and unelected ‘experts’ disguised as a private consortium, that will eventually lead to the creation of an EU style North American super state.

Four explanations for the same events, all different, all plausible, but only one of them can be true — the other three are there for camouflage.

The truth about the SPP is carefully hidden in plain sight.

You are probably waiting for me to tell you that I know for sure which theory is the truth and which are camouflage.

(If I told you that, I wouldn’t expect you to trust me anymore. I am an analyst, not a clairvoyant.)

But we can read the clues together, apply a little logic — plus, we have the added insight of Bible prophecy to help cut through the fog.

I think we can dismiss Michael Medved out-of-hand. Occam’s Razor slices his argument to ribbons.

The facts tell us that I-35 is under construction from Texas to Minnesota. The SPP’s official statement of purpose includes improving the movement of goods. Logic dictates this will require a highway.

The simplest explanation is that the US is constructing a superhighway along the I-35 corridor to link Canada to Mexico for the SPP.

As to the introduction of the Amero being a delusional myth, the facts tell us the dollar is sinking like a stone against the Euro.

China is threatening to crater the US economy by divesting itself of its US dollar holdings.

Venezuela and Iran are already waging economic war against the dollar by refusing to accept it as payment for oil exports.

Logic dictates that the best way to prevent an economic collapse is to introduce a new, resource-based and less vulnerable form of currency backed by the collective wealth of a North American Union.

The simplest explanation is that the SPP is planning some form of unified North American currency. (Maybe it will be called the “Amero.”)

What are some of the other clues?

One of the most inexplicable policies of the Bush administration, particularly in the post-9/11 reality, is its stubborn refusal to secure the US borders with Mexico and Canada.

Canada’s immigration policies are virtually open-door, particularly to immigrants from the Muslim world. And Mexico is a direct route into the US from Iran or Syria via Venezuela’s air corridor to Damascus and Tehran.

Logically, the borders represent our greatest vulnerability to enemy attack. Yet the Bush administration opposes any efforts to either seal the borders or tighten immigration.

Why?

Occam’s Razor says the simplest answer to any question is usually the correct one.

Given the security risks involved, not to mention the political costs associated with opposing increased border security, there must be a logical explanation for why the administration is dug in on the other side of the fence from public opinion on this one.

Were the White House and the GOP to make border security their principle campaign issue, they’d sweep the ’08 elections.

So would the Democrats. And both parties know it.

Logically, it would have to be a pretty compelling reason for both parties to pass by such a juicy political plum — some reason so big it even transcends partisanship.

If the SPP plan is to integrate Mexico and Canada as part of an EU-style federation, then there must be bi-partisan leadership agreement that sealing the borders or implementing anti-immigration measures is both counterproductive and unnecessary.

That seems to be the simplest explanation, given all the facts available.

Now, let’s analyze it through the prism of Bible prophecy for the last days.

Bible prophecy foretells the existence of four spheres of global influence in the last days: the Kings of the East, (China) the Gog-Magog Alliance (Russia, Middle East and North Africa) the Kings of the South (sub-Saharan Africa) and the revived Roman Empire of the Antichrist.

There is no mention of a fifth superpower resembling the United States. However, the antichrist’s empire is so powerful, compared to the others, that it qualifies as a global government.

The antichrist controls the global economy to the degree that he will be able to control the individual ability to buy or sell, based on membership in his system, and that system will be imposed on a global basis.

The EU fits the description given in prophecy, except it is not yet the superpower the Bible describes it to be.

According to both Daniel and John, each of the other global spheres of power come against him at some point during the Tribulation, but are easily broken by his military power.

The EU doesn’t have that power alone, but an alliance with an integrated North America would make it the undisputed and indisputable global superpower extraordinaire.

Taking both Bible prophecy and the SPP conspiracy together and applying Occam’s Razor clears most of the Zippos from the coffee table.

It also provides the simplest explanation to the question, “where is America in Bible prophecy?”

It would appear that Occam’s Razor favors Jerome Corsi’s explanation.
