‘Meathead’ Endorses Hillary

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Okay, I couldn’t resist this one. Rob Reiner, the original meathead, and many other Hollywood meatheads will be plugging for Billary.

Hillary Clinton is picking up the key endorsement of director Rob Reiner, giving her campaign a further boost in the race for key Hollywood politicos as she solidifies a commanding lead in many polls.
Reiner, one of the entertainment industry’s most politically active figures, says that he waited until now to endorse Clinton after meeting with all of the candidates except Mike Gravel.

“Based on the experience I have had in politics, and I have been on the front lines in a lot of these fights, I came around to realizing that we do need the most experienced and most qualified person to run the country,” Reiner said on Wednesday

His nod sends a further signal that Clinton is locking up her entertainment industry support after an unexpectedly strong challenge earlier this year from Barack Obama.

Along with celebrities such and George Clooney and Matt Damon, Obama does have the endorsement of Oprah Winfrey, who helped raise more than $3 million for him at a recent fund-raiser, but it’s not yet clear how or whether that will translate into votes. Although it has been rumored, the campaign has not as yet announced any plans for Winfrey to go out on the campaign trail for Obama.

Because of Reiner’s political involvement, his endorsement may have resonance within the industry, particularly among those who are undecided or who have yet to contribute to a campaign.

In addition to his advocacy of early childhood health care and education, Reiner has stumped in the past for John Kerry, Howard Dean and Al Gore. He said that he has no plans as yet to go out on the trail for Clinton, but “I am going to do whatever the campaign asks me to do.”

First up will be a Clinton fund-raiser that he and his wife, Michele, will have at their home on Oct. 21. That event will double as a 60th birthday celebration for the New York senator (she celebrates the milestone on Oct. 26).

While Reiner has longtime ties to the Clintons, he is close friends with Gore, and the director admitted that he had at one point held out hope that Gore would get into the race.

Bush Takes Up for Israel to U.N.

Friday, September 28th, 2007

I am glad that someone has the guts to stand up for Israel.

United States President George W. Bush urged the United Nations to reform its Human Rights Council Tuesday, criticizing the body for ignoring abuses in places like Iran “while focusing its criticism excessively on Israel.”

“The American people are disappointed by the failures of the Human Rights Council,” Bush said. “The United Nations must reform its own Human Rights Council.”

In the course of his speech, Bush pointed out several regimes which he termed “brutal” and “cruel.” He announced new sanctions against the military dictatorship in Myanmar (Burma), accusing it of imposing “a 19-year reign of fear” that denies the basic freedoms of speech, assembly and worship.

“Americans are outraged by the situation in Burma,” the president said in an address to the U.N. General Assembly. He purposely used the country’s old name, Burma: the military junta renamed the Asian country Myanmar but the U.S. refuses to recognize the change.

“Basic freedoms of speech, assembly and worship are severely restricted,” he said. “Ethnic minorities are persecuted. Forced child labor, human trafficking and rape are common. The regime is holding more than a thousand political prisoners, including Aung San Suu Kyi, whose party was elected overwhelmingly by the Burmese people in 1990.

“The ruling junta remains unyielding, yet the people’s desire for freedom is unmistakable,” Bush said.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sat in the chamber and checked his watch during Bush’s remarks. First Lady Laura Bush, also present for the president’s speech, walked by the seated Iranian president without making contact, and Israeli Ambassador Danny Gillerman, too, made a point of avoiding Ahmadinejad.

Dozens in Mexican City Sick With Avian Flu

Friday, September 28th, 2007

I have to wonder how long it will be before this avian flu becomes an epidemic here in America.

Dozens of people in a Mexican city are gravely ill with what is being treated as a possible outbreak of avian flu, according to a new report from a Spanish-language website.

According to El Universal, authorities in a neighborhood in Guanajuato say 45 patients have been given medical attention at the area’s hospital after they reported symptoms including extreme headaches, stomachaches, vomiting and diarrhea.

The cases have developed over the last two weeks and “feel [like] death,” according to Silvia Villalobos, one of the victims who spoke to El Universal correspondent Xochitl Alvarez in Spanish

Ben Stein to Battle Darwin in Major Film

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Ben Stein, the lovable, monotone teacher from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “The Wonder Years” is back in the classroom in a major motion picture release slated for February 2008.

But this time, the actor will be on the big screen asking one of life’s biggest questions: “Were we designed, or are we simply the end result of an ancient mud puddle struck by lightning?”

That’s right. Evolution – and the explosive debate over its virtual monopoly on America’s public school classrooms – is the focus of the film “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed.”

Intelligence Expelled

In the movie, Stein, who is also a lawyer, economist, former presidential speechwriter, author and social commentator, is stunned by what he discovers – an elitist scientific establishment that has traded in its skepticism for dogma. Even worse, say publicists for the feature film, “along the way, Stein uncovers a long line of biologists, astronomers, chemists and philosophers who have had their reputations destroyed and their careers ruined by a scientific establishment that allows absolutely no dissent from Charles Darwin’s theory of random mutation and natural selection.”

“Big Science in this area of biology has lost its way,” says Stein. “Scientists are supposed to be allowed to follow the evidence wherever it may lead, no matter what the implications are. Freedom of inquiry has been greatly compromised, and this is not only anti-American, it’s anti-science. It’s anti-the whole concept of learning.”

As “Expelled’s” official website asks: “What freedom-loving student wouldn’t be outraged to discover that his high school science teacher is teaching a theory as indisputable fact, and that university professors unmercifully crush any fellow scientists who dare question the prevailing system of belief? This isn’t the latest Hollywood comedy; it’s a disturbing new documentary that will shock anyone who thinks all scientists are free to follow the evidence wherever it may lead.”

“Expelled” is produced by Premise Media, and being marketed by Motive Entertainment, which has spearheaded major previous Hollywood blockbusters, including “The Passion of the Christ,” “Polar Express” and “The Chronicles of Narnia.” It will be distributed by Rocky Mountain Pictures, with numerous box-office successes to its credit.

“Expelled” documents how teachers and scientists alike are being ridiculed daily, denied tenure and even fired believing there is evidence of “design” in nature and challenging the current orthodoxy that life is entirely a result of random chance.

‘DREAM Act’ Unfair to Legal U.S. Citizens, Says Immigration Reform Group

Friday, September 28th, 2007

I’ve taken a lot of criticism about this issue lately.
I still have to stand by what I’ve been saying. The main question to ask is “what part of illegal do people not understand?”
I’ve said many times that the immigration system is broken. There is no reason why it should take up to ten years for an immigrate to be granted legal entry into our country. This system needs to fixed.
But with that said, there still is no justification for breaking the law. There are many “bad” laws in this country. Knee-Jerk reactions by politicians in order to bring home “pork” or trick people in to believing they deserve to be re-elected. But these laws are still laws, and we should obey all laws. If enough of us don’t like them, we use our voices to tell our elected representatives to change them. If our elected officials refuse, then we vote them out of office; replace them with someone we feel will do what we ask. This is how democracy works.
The latest liberal Democrat “feel-good” ploy is to allow illegal aliens reduced college tuition, a service not offered to citizens.
Did you all get that?
People coming to our nation illegally will be granted reduced college tuition, while our citizens and legal nationals are not. The illegal immigrant are being treated better than the citizens of this country.

An immigration reform organization says a bill that would give in-state college tuition benefits to illegal aliens anywhere in the U.S., without affording the same rights to legal immigrants and citizens, is completely unfair.

Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) has reintroduced the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act, which is referred to as the “DREAM Act.” Senate Bill 2075 would provide illegal aliens who crossed the border, when they were 15 years or younger, a fast track to citizenship as well as the in-state tuition rates. Durbin and his bipartisan contingent of co-sponsors refer to such individuals as “undocumented students” who cannot attend college without legal immigration status. Many of those people, they point out, “had no choice in the matter, coming to the United States with their parents at a young age.”

“A legal immigrant or an American citizen, say in Nebraska coming into Los Angeles, California, today, has to pay out-of-state tuition,” [Mark Cromer, a senior writing fellow for Californians for Population Stabilization] explains. “Yet an illegal immigrant coming illegally into the United States from a foreign country gets in-state tuition. The American citizen is actually penalized for essentially being a citizen,” states Cromer.

Kennedy, Smith Succeed in Tying ‘Hate Crimes’ Measure to DoD Bill

Friday, September 28th, 2007

The liberal dems are still trying to create a “two tiered” legal system where people of certain sexual preferences (homosexuals) are given a special protected status. Two tiers of laws: a harsh set of penalties for offenders of homosexuals and a lesser set of penalties for those who harm the rest of us. How fair is that?
Of course, the only way to even stand a chance of getting it pushed through is to attach it to a defense spending bill.

A pro-family activist in Washington, DC, is decrying the Senate’s passage earlier today of a bill that would federalize the prosecution of so-called “hate crimes.”

By a 60-39 vote, the Senate passed a controversial amendment to the Defense Authorization bill sponsored by Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Massachusetts). The Kennedy amendment expands hate crime law to include crimes motivated by gender, “sexual orientation,” or disability of victims.

It angers Barber (Matt Barber, policy director for cultural issues at Concerned Women for America) that the Massachusetts lawmaker “would hold our soldiers hostage” with the defense spending bill by attaching what he describes as a “totally unrelated, dangerous” hate crimes amendment. “[He’s trying] to force President Bush’s hand,” says the CWA spokesman, “and the president has signaled that he will veto this bill because they are trying to attach this very dangerous amendment.”

Christians Boycott Beer Giant as Company Sponsors SF Fetish Fair

Friday, September 28th, 2007

More news concerning San Francisco’s Folsom Street “Fair”.

A Catholic group is calling for a boycott of the Miller Brewing Co. after the beer giant failed to have its logo removed from a “gay”-festival promo mocking the iconic Last Supper scene of Jesus Christ and his disciples.

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, wants Miller to go much further and rescind its sponsorship of San Francisco’s Folsom Street Fair, which has featured blatant displays of public nudity and performances by the anti-Catholic group Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

“Never have we experienced greater corporate arrogance than in this dispute with the Miller Brewing Company,” Donohue said on this morning’s “Fox and Friends” show on the Fox News Channel.

Calling it an “incredibly outrageous and palpably anti-Christian event,” Donohue posted photographs of past Folsom Street Fairs, warning that the images are graphic.

This year’s fair is scheduled for Sunday.

As WND reported, the Last Supper poster promoting the fair replaces the bread and wine with sex toys and depicts Jesus Christ and his disciples as “half-naked homosexual sadomasochists.”

Donohue said Miller “leaves us with no options.”

“We are calling on more than 200 Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu organizations to join with us in a nationwide boycott of Miller beer,” he said.

San Francisco … ‘No’ to Marines, ‘Yes’ to debauchery

Friday, September 28th, 2007

I am at the point where I actually fear for Christians living in San Francisco. Pray for them.

The Silent Drill Platoon of the U.S. Marine Corps has been touring the country shooting a commercial called “America’s Marines,” with stops in October planned for Kentucky, Tennessee, Colorado, and Arizona. Recently, the unit was filmed marching in the heart of Times Square in New York City during the morning rush hour. But when a request was made to film a segment along California Street in San Francisco, the city’s Film Commission told the Marines no, saying “traffic control was the issue.”

The city’s denial of the Marines’ Silent Drill Platoon has angered local conservatives and military veterans, as well as several pro-family leaders, among them Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality. LaBarbera says traffic control does not appear to be a problem for an event known as the “Folsom Street Fair,” taking place in the City by the Bay this weekend.

“It’s a street festival blocked off by the police, and it’s just incredible. You wouldn’t believe it unless you actually saw it,” he explains. “There are people whipping each other on the streets. It’s a celebration of sadomasochistic perversion.” And it is like any other street fair with city blocks blocked off, he says — except for one major difference. “This one is dedicated to perversion,” he shares. “You see men walking around barely clad or semi-nude; we have documented evidence of sex acts on the street.”
