University’s Ban on ‘Christ’ Challenged as Violation of 1st Amendment

Friday, December 21st, 2007

This statement from the university president pretty well sums up what they think of Christmas:

[Southwestern Oklahoma State University President, John M. Hays], said employees may be “asked in some offices to be careful about what they put up.” And he suggested that a supervisor, for example, may tell employees they could not put a “pornographic material,” or erect a monument to “Wicca.”

So now, according to University President Hays, Christmas is equated with pornography.

A Midwestern university has mandated “Merry —–mas” as a holiday greeting, banning “Christ” in apparent violation of the U.S. Constitution, according to Liberty Counsel, which works to advance religious freedom and the traditional family.

The events have developed at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla.

“The controversy began when the university’s director of human resources recently visited various departments and said that decorations featuring the word ‘Christmas’ in any areas of the university must be immediately removed,” the organization said. “He also instructed the employees not to say ‘Christmas’ while on the job. As a result the employees cannot respond ‘Merry Christmas’ to other employees or visitors to the University.”

University President John M. Hays denied the school “has a policy” that employees cannot say “Merry Christmas,” but admitted that a “supervisor” may have given instructions regarding holiday wording.

He blamed it on “an attempt to be respectful of the diverse religious population at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.”

That effort, he said, “has been misinterpreted as an attempt to ban Christmas on the Weatherford campus. … The university attempted to prevent the appearance as a state agency of endorsing any particular religion.”

He said employees may be “asked in some offices to be careful about what they put up.” And he suggested that a supervisor, for example, may tell employees they could not put a “pornographic material,” or erect a monument to “Wicca.”

But Mathew D. Staver, founder and chief of Liberty Counsel, said the circumstances were documented before the organization raised the issue, sending the school a letter suggesting an immediate abandonment of such a policy.

He also said Liberty Counsel had been told the university issued the policy on the legal advice from Oklahoma Attorney General W.A. Drew Edmonson.

The complaint came through several channels to Liberty Counsel, including from a city commissioner whose daughter works at the school and was given the instructions directly.

“Also other employees, in an employee-wide meeting … were told that,” Staver said.

One college official visited a university office used for registering students, and told workers that “Christ” in the word “Christmas” had to be covered up, he said.

“This censorship specifically includes exchanging greetings of ‘Merry Christmas’ among employees or with non-employees, whether initiated by a university employee or not,” Liberty Counsel said. “Christmas remains a legal holiday for state employees, including those at SWOSU. The directive does not include any other legal holidays such as Thanksgiving or New Year’s.”

Such demands “are in direct violation of the United States Constitution and other federal law. The First Amendment prohibits government from being hostile to religion. Selecting one legal holiday for negative treatment and special restrictions solely because it has religious aspects clearly demonstrates hostility toward religion,” Liberty Counsel said.

“Moreover, the free speech rights of employees at the university are infringed when their speech is censored solely because of a religious viewpoint or perceived religious viewpoint.”

Hundreds of Scientists Reject Global Warming

Friday, December 21st, 2007

The global warming farce is finally being debunked by sound scientific methods and common sense.

A new U.S. Senate report documents hundreds of prominent scientists – experts in dozens of fields of study worldwide – who say global warming and cooling is a cycle of nature and cannot legitimately be connected to man’s activities.

“Of course I believe in global warming, and in global cooling – all part of the natural climate changes that the Earth has experienced for billions of years, caused primarily by the cyclical variations in solar output,” said research physicist John W. Brosnahan, who develops remote-sensing instruments for atmospheric science for clients including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NASA.

However, he said, “I have not seen any sort of definitive, scientific link to man-made carbon dioxide as the root cause of the current global warming, only incomplete computer models that suggest that this might be the case.

(Story continues below)

“Even though these computer climate models do not properly handle a number of important factors, including the role of precipitation as a temperature regulator, they are being (mis-)used to force a political agenda upon the U.S.,” he continued. “While there are any number of reasons to reduce carbon dioxide generation, to base any major fiscal policy on the role of carbon dioxide in climate change would be inappropriate and imprudent at best and potentially disastrous economic folly at the worst.”

The report compiled observations from more than 400 prominent scientists from more than two dozen nations who have voiced objections to the so-called “consensus” on “man-made global warming.”

Many of the scientists are current or former participants in the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, whose present officials, along with former Vice President Al Gore, have asserted a definite connection.

The new report comes from the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee’s office of the GOP ranking member, and cites the hundreds of opinions issued just in 2007 that global warming and man’s activities are unrelated.

“Even some in the establishment media now appear to be taking notice of the growing number of skeptical scientists,” the introduction to the Senate report said. “In October, the Washington Post Staff Writer Juliet Eilperin conceded the obvious, writing that climate skeptics ‘appear to be expanding rather than shrinking.'”

“Many scientists from around the world have dubbed 2007 as the year man-made global warming fears ‘bite the dust,'” the introduction said.

And there probably would be many more scientists making such statements, were it not for the fear of retaliation from those aboard the global-warming-is-caused-by-SUVs bandwagon, the report said.

Islamic Bloc Scores ‘Defamation of Religions’ Resolution at UN

Friday, December 21st, 2007

The Islamist continue to try to make it an international crime to criticize their religion. They are one step closer thanks to that unless entity housed in New York City, the United Nations.

(CNSNews.com) – Alongside a resolution adopted by the U.N. General Assembly this week calling for a moratorium on the death penalty, the world body passed a raft of other human rights-related motions. One of them, introduced by Islamic nations, focuses on combating the “defamation of religions.”

Resolutions on the human rights situation in North Korea and Iran also passed, although dozens of countries — including human rights violators Cuba, Sudan, Syria and Zimbabwe — voted against the motions.

An annual resolution on “the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination” also passed by an overwhelming margin, with only the United States, Israel, and three small Pacific island nations voting “no.” There were four abstentions.

The motion on defamation of religions has been a priority for the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) since 9/11. It took on new impetus following a Danish newspaper’s publication in 2005 of cartoons satirizing Mohammed.

Introduced by Pakistan on behalf of the OIC, it passed on Tuesday by a 108-51 margin, with 25 abstentions. As with many of the other votes, the U.S. lined up with democracies in Europe, Asia and elsewhere against developing nations, including repressive regimes.

Although the resolution refers to defamation of “religions,” Islam is the only religion named in the text, which also takes a swipe at counter-terrorism security measures.

It expresses alarm about “discrimination” and “laws that stigmatize groups of people belonging to certain religions and faiths under a variety of pretexts relating to security and illegal immigration.”

Muslim minorities are subjected to “ethnic and religious profiling … in the aftermath of the tragic events of 11 September 2001,” it says.

The resolution decries “the negative projection of Islam in the media” and voices “deep concern that Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism.”

OIC secretary-general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu earlier this month addressed an international conference on “Islamophobia,” held in Turkey, and told the gathering that freedom of expression was being used as a cover in the West to promote anti-Islam sentiment.

The OIC soon will release its first-ever annual report on “Islamophobia.”

Numerous Nativity Scenes Vandalized Nationwide

Friday, December 21st, 2007

The secular people continue to feel the need to attack our holiday. They seem to have a real problem with just letting us enjoy our holiday and celebrate it the way we want to.
This attitude has always confused me. Why do the atheist feel the need to spend so much time and energy disparaging something they claim not to believe in?
I mean really. I don’t believe in leprechauns, yet you don’t see me spending countless hours arguing with people who choose to do so. It’s completely irrelevant to me if they believe or not.
But not so with the atheist. They must attack Christians at every opportunity. They must fight this “thing” that they choose not to believe.
Doesn’t make much sense.

(CNSNews.com) – With Dec. 25 only days away, a central image in the celebration of Christmas – the manger scene featuring replicas of Joseph, Mary and the baby Jesus – has become the focus of attacks by vandals and leaders of “the secular Left,” Christian groups charged on Wednesday.

While the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights was erecting a nativity scene in New York City’s Central Park, the group issued a news release condemning three dozen instances in which manger scenes were vandalized or stolen from Antioch, Calif., to Leesburg, Va., this Christmas season.

“In perhaps the sickest incident, a public school coach in Marietta, Ga., drove students around the area in his pickup truck, instructing them to thrash Christmas displays after dark,” League said.

During their Dec. 8 vandalism spree, 46-year-old John Hayes and several middle school students damaged a number of Christmas displays, let the air out of inflatable figures and rearranged plastic reindeer into X-rated sexual positions.

According to the WGCL TV, Hayes has been charged with trespassing, contributing to the delinquency of minors and reckless conduct.

In addition to physical attacks, nativity scenes are “part of a larger war that the secular Left is waging on all things Christian,” said Gary McCaleb, senior counsel with the conservative Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) – which describes itself as “a legal alliance defending the right to hear and speak the Truth through strategy, training, funding, and litigation” – in a news release.

During the past week, ADF attorneys have offered to defend free of charge two cities in Wisconsin that faced legal action from the secularist Freedom from Religion Foundation (FRF) if those governments did not remove nativity scenes from their public holiday displays.

“Kites and Other Cultural Baggage: What Muslim Immigrants Pack” Dr. Phyllis Chesler

Friday, December 21st, 2007

Last night I finally saw the film based on Khaled Hosseini’s novel The Kite Runner. I loved it—yes, even if it captures a pre-Taliban country more mythical than real. Nevertheless, the musical soundtrack, the recitation of classical poetry, the innocent kite-flying competitions in Kabul, (not to mention Homayoun Ershadi who strongly resembles Marcello Mastroianni), all comprise utterly charming scenes and characters carefully chosen and calibrated to help us distinguish between sophisticated and westernized Afghans who are non-violent, (I know many), and the barbarians amongst them.

I think that the film is also brave. First, it depicts a tall, thin, slightly effeminate, incredibly brutal pederast (“Assef”) who, although he is an Afghan through and through, reminds one of none other than Osama bin Laden. Both figures walk languidly; both teach “harsh” lessons. The film also shows us how the Taliban publicly stone a sobbing woman in a pink burqa to death and how they kidnap or purchase Afghan orphans, mainly girls, but sometimes also boys, as “dancing” sex-objects.

True, as shown, wealthy and western-educated Afghans did have private, gender-integrated dancing parties in the 1970s in Kabul—but the nature of Afghan society is better represented in both the novel and the film in how they depict Afghan marriage and family customs in America. Even those immigrants who live in San Francisco guard their women, expect would-be suitors to ask a father for his daughter’s hand in marriage. (The film has a wonderful Afghan Wedding scene every bit the equal of any Bollywood Indian Wedding.) And, Afghan immigrants continue to live with or geographically near to their parents and to center their adult social lives together with them.

Not a bad idea at all.

Ah, but now I come to the hard part. Daily, I receive news of Islamic gender and religious apartheid, both in the Islamic East and as it has steadily penetrated the West. I write about this at length in my latest book The Death of Feminism.

But, the same continent (North America) and culture (the West) which is so proud of its multi-cultural sensitivity and tolerance—and whose people have embraced books such as The Kite Runner and Reading Lolita in Tehran, are all more eager to embrace the immigrant “Other,” (which is commendably open-hearted), and reluctant to take into account the cultural “baggage” that most immigrants bring with them into their new lives.

Although fewer immigrants arrive in the West from Iran or Saudi Arabia, these two countries have exported their versions of Islam to Muslims in very effective ways. For example, in the last month:

IRAN
A top Muslim cleric, Hojatolislam Gholam Reza Hassani said that Muslim women who do not wear the hijab “should die.” He went further: “These women and their husbands and their fathers must die.”

The use of the word “women” has just been banned from Iranian state TV. They have begun using the word “family” instead. In recent weeks, Iran’s Center for the Participation of Women changed its name to the Centre for Family Matters.

Two Kurdish women’s rights activists, Ronak Safazadeh and Hana Abdi, were just arrested in Teheran and charged as “terrorists.” These two feminists were collecting “a million signatures for equality” but have, instead, been charged with a car bomb.

PAKISTAN
Seventy one percent of the men polled in Pakistan “justify beating women.” The survey documents that 80% of Pakistani women are the “victims of domestic violence.” The report claims that “Women in Pakistan face death by shooting, burning, or killing with axes” in shame and honor murders.

Also, a former Muslim in Pakistan who converted to Christianity has been receiving “death threats from his Muslim siblings” and is now in hiding together with his wife, their four daughters and son.

IRAQ
Religious vigilantes have killed at least 40 women in the southern city of Basra because their dress “violated Islamic teachings.” Maj General Jalil Khalaf said: “The women of Basra are being horrifically murdered and then dumped in the garbage with notes saying they were killed for un-Islamic behavior.”

SAUDI ARABIA
The parents of a nineteen year-old Saudi girl chained her by the feet in order to prevent her from meeting her fiancée whom her family would not accept.

Saudi women are not allowed to drive or change the color of their clothing or shake a man’s hand (which some mullahs view as “adultery of the hand.”) She cannot marry without permission, retain custody of her children after a divorce, or “annoy” her husband. She is also forbidden to “speak in public.” A popular Saudi television preacher has stated that “a girl who is not beaten from an early age grows up to be a rebellious woman, difficult to control” and that “a woman who leaves her home without a veil is like a woman who goes out naked.”

Those who emigrate into the West from these countries take these attitudes and customs along with them. So far, the West has been slow in noting or in trying to prevent what for us are crimes. On the other hand, the West has also offered refuge to and published the work of Islamic dissidents; appointed and elected pro-woman and anti-violence Muslims to public office; offered police protection and shelter to those in flight from Islamist violence in the West. Thus, also in the last month:

BRITAIN
The daughter of an imam who herself has converted to Christianity, is under serious police protection after receiving death threats from her family. She has, so far, had to move 45 times since she converted 15 years ago. She did so after she ran away from home to escape an arranged marriage.

Waris Dirie, who herself underwent female genital mutilation in her native Somalia has, together with Corinna Milborn, published a new book in Britain. They estimate that 500,000 girls and women have been genitally mutilated in Europe—even though it is illegal to do so. Dirie considers the “difficulties of bringing such cases to court, the culture of silence that keeps affected women quiet, and the muddled association of circumcision with Islam.”

NORWAY
Norwegian author, Tor Erling Staff has published a book in which he calls for “reduced sentences for honor murders.” In his view, such Muslim men who kill are “betrayed by Norwegian society. They come from places where equality is an unknown concept. Where the thought of equality is a humiliation. Suddenly they land here, in the middle of equality paradise. It is clear there is stress…”

HOLLAND
Dutch Minister of Integration, Ella Vogellar, admitted that the emancipation of immigrant women is expected to lead to more cases of honor related violence. A special task force has received about 470 such cases this year. Men are also the victims, either because they are homosexuals or because they try to help their sisters.

Not everyone is keeping their heads firmly down. In Amsterdam, Ehsan Jami, the founder of the Committee for Former Muslims is about to release a film about The Life of Mohammed. He says: “I show how violent and tyrannical Mohammed was. This man murdered three Jewish tribes, killed people who left the faith, and married a 6 year-old girl with whom he had sex when she was 9.” Jami remains under heavy police protection and has offered EUR 50,000 to “anyone who can refute these facts.”

Too many people in the West are misguided and believe that telling the truth about Islam is “Islamophobic” or simply dangerous. May we all begin to have the courage of Ehsan Jami (or Khaled Hosseini) because we are going to need it.

Georgia Town Threatened with Lawsuit Over Nativity Scene

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Satan will keep on trying to remove Christianity from sight if we let him. The laws of this country do not support the stance of people trying to suppress religious expression.

An attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund says a small Georgia town is being targeted by a liberal group that is trying to intimidate city officials into removing a nativity scene.

“The problem that Americans United for Separation of Church and State have is that any time you have any symbol or public display that has a religious connotation, they’re opposed to it,” explains [Senior legal counsel for ADF, Mike Johnson].

Johnson says that Americans United has a “very radical, anti-American vision” for the U.S., and that vision “goes against our deep religious heritage.” He also accuses the group of “misleading public officials” as they try to convince them to quit traditional Christmas displays. The senior legal counsel says officials need to fight back and tell groups like Americans United that they are not going to give in to the group’s “radical demands.” The American people, common sense, and the Constitution, says the attorney, are winning the battles against Christmas staged by the liberal left.

Hamas Broadcasts from Temple Mount on Jewish Holiday, Police Ban Jews & Christians From Site

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

It is completely beyond my comprehension how this can happen.

JERUSALEM – The Hamas terror group today broadcast live from the Temple Mount – Judaism’s holiest site – and announced it would commence daily programming from the site while Israeli police banned all Jews and Christian from ascending the Mount.

Jewish Temple Mount groups had wanted to lead tours this morning, which marked the start of Jewish fast day of the Tenth of Tevet, mourning the First Temple’s destruction and the siege placed on Jerusalem leading up to Temple’s destruction during the reign of the Babylonian ruler Nebuchadnezzar.

“Our broadcast is a victory for the Al Aqsa Mosque, which is suffering from Judaization efforts imposed by the Zionist government. Broadcasting daily radio is a way to bring Al Aqsa to the Gaza Strip and challenge the siege imposed on us by the Zionist entity,” said Rami Kaoud, a manager at Al Aqsa Radio, Hamas’ official radio network.

Along with the Jewish fast day, today also marked the start of Muslim holiday of Ein ul-Adhaa, which commemorates the Islamic belief of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael for Allah. According to Jewish and Christian tradition, Abraham nearly sacrificed his son Isaac, not Ishmael.

WND broke the story Monday that Hamas was planning to exclusively broadcast the Ein ul-Adhaa morning prayers and sermons from the Al Aqsa Mosque.

“Value Voter” Issues Still a Large Factor in Campaign

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

I would hope that they are. Some days I wonder, but I keep praying that people will vote their morals.

An article in USA Today contends that “the urgency of issues such as war, terrorism, and the economy” have “overrun ‘family values’ on the campaign’s agenda.” Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council (FRC), disagrees and says political pundits and the media are only wishing that “value voters” would go away since George W. Bush was re-elected in 2004.

“Candidates like Governor Mike Huckabee, Governor Mitt Romney — [those] who hit these issues head on — are the ones who are attracting the most support. In fact, [since] Governor Huckabee … began in October really addressing these core value issues that reach to the hearts of value-voters, his support has skyrocketed,” Perkins points out.

The FRC president says value voters do care about the economy and the war on terror, but their core value is the family — and that is an issue that will not go away, Perkins adds. During a Monday appearance on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, former presidential adviser David Gergen agreed with Perkins that family values were still high on the agenda of evangelical Christian voters.

Top Iranian Cleric Says Women Without Veils Must Die

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

The true colors of Islam continue to be highlighted by the actions of their top religious leaders.

Tehran, 19 Dec. (AKI) – A top Muslim cleric in Iran, Hojatolislam Gholam Reza Hassani said on Wednesday that women in Iran who do not wear the hijab or Muslim headscarf, should die.

“Women who do not respect the hijab and their husbands deserve to die,” said Hassani, who leads Friday prayers in the city of Urumieh, in Iranian Azerbaijan.

“I do not understand how these women who do not respect the hijab, 28 years after the birth of the Islamic Republic, are still alive,” he said.

“These women and their husbands and their fathers must die,” said Hassani, who is the representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in eastern Azerbaijan.

Hassani’s statements came after two Kurdish feminists in Iran were accused of being members of an armed rebel group and of carrying out subversive activities threatening the security of the state.

It is believed that his statements and the arrests could spark a fresh crackdown on women who do not repect the Islamic dress code in Iran.

Thousands of women in Iran have already been warned this year for their “un-Islamic dress” such as wearing tight, short coats and skimpy headscarves.

Nearly 7 in 10 Mexican Migrants Enters U.S. Illegally, Says Mexico

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

This continues to be an ever growing problem that our government, to this day, chooses to overlook.

MEXICO CITY — The Mexican government reported the results of recent studies on Tuesday showing that 68 percent of Mexicans who migrate or try to migrate to the United States do so without documents and 55 percent of them hire immigrant smugglers.

The report, timed to coincide with the U.N. International Migrants Day, also noted that the Mexican-born population living in the United States increased from about 800,000 in 1970 to more than 11 million in 2006.

The majority of Mexicans now living in the United States — 6.2 million — are undocumented, according to the report, which was based on surveys of migrants and information from the government’s National Population Council.

Almost 30 million people in the United are direct descendants of Mexico migrants, the report stated.

In contrast, the report said the immigrant population in Mexico is quite small and has not experienced rapid growth.

The number of foreign residents in Mexico grew from 340,000 people en 1990, or about 0.42 percent of the population at the time, to about 493,000 in 2000, or about 0.5 percent, the last year for which data is available.

More than two-thirds of the foreign residents are from the United States, and many of those are of Mexican extraction.

Gun Free Zones vs. The Right to be Protected

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

I am going to ask you to join me in starting a grass roots effort.
I believe that it is the right of every citizen to carry a firearm if they have passed the approved classes and gotten the correct certifications from law enforcement officials.
In light of the recent shootings at schools, malls and churches, I would like to propose the following.
If malls, schools, churches and public buildings are going to be declared “Gun Free Zones”, then I believe that the law should require that the people in charge of these places be required to provide adequate armed security, since the average gun carrying citizen will be required to leave his/her firearm behind.
We have a right to be protected or to protect ourselves. The only people who will respect a “Gun Free Zone” will be the law abiding people. All a “Gun Free Zone” does is tell a criminal that he has free reign to enter this area and begin a killing spree with impunity.
Doug Giles at Townhall makes some excellent points in this article, but I don’t totally agree with the “tone” of the article, so I will not post it here. If you want to read it, you can see it here.
Please post comments and let me know what you think about this idea.
Thank you,
-Steve

Markell Sees Strong World Delusion in Funding Enemies

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

It amazes me as well that the world continues to fund people, who are at best, corrupt and at worse, terrorist.

At a donor’s conference in Paris, the world rallied to support the Palestinian government as it sought $5.6 billion for a plan to ease a serious budgetary crisis. But thanks largely to the efforts of Mideast envoy Tony Blair, they exceeded expectations with nearly $7.5 billion in pledges over the next three years, with nearly $3 billion earmarked for 2008. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice pledged $555 million for 2008, however that figure includes about $400 million that the White House announced but has not approved by Congress.

Jan Markell, founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries, believes the world is delusional. “My bottom-line question to all of this is, how many chances do such renegade outfits get to continually be funded by the entire world?” questions Markell. “And I think that’s the key … that Blair has asked the entire world to make this their cause.”

The ministry leader says such aid never goes to the people who really need the help. “They just pocket it and put it in Swiss banks and leave their people in poverty,” she continues. “Why is this not a no-brainer that the leadership of these so-called Palestinian people [are] corrupt to the core? I don’t understand why that is so difficult to grasp.”

Eyebrows Raised Over $10 Million Saudi Gift to Clinton Library

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

More sleaziness from the Clintons.

Terrorism analyst Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, who left the Islamic faith to become a Christian, is raising concerns about the large sum of money former President Bill Clinton has received from the royal family of Saudi Arabia. He suggests that the multi-million-dollar donation has the potential to influence Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s Mideast policy if she were to win the White House.

“Saudi Arabia has been donating a great amount of money to a number of different U.S. institutions. In particular, they’ve been endowing a number of university chairs in Islamic studies. That’s of concern because in general they get what they pay for in these Islamic study programs; that is, one of the most pernicious ideologies when it comes to contemporary Islamic extremism is wahabism — the ultra-conservative brand of religion that is predominant in Saudi Arabia.”

The terrorism analyst says when the Saudis endow chairs of Islamic studies at universities, those study programs will be “more amenable” to Saudi Arabia’s role in the world, as well as “much more willing to serve as apologists for the wahabi brand of Islam.”

Spending Bill ‘Guts’ Border Fence, Critics Say

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

It looks like the government never intended to build the border fence.

(CNSNews.com) – The House passed a large omnibus spending bill late Monday that included a provision which some conservatives say would “gut” plans to build a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The provision would eliminate requirements for a double fence and would give the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) more discretion on where and how the fence can be built.

“By eliminating the double-fence requirement, the Democratic Congress is going to make it easier for drug and human smugglers to cross our Southern land border,” said Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) in a statement. “This goes against the interests of any family that has been touched by illegal drugs or any American who has seen their job taken by an illegal alien.

“The success of the San Diego Border Fence demonstrates the overall effectiveness of the double-layered approach and the importance of extending this infrastructure across our Southern land border,” said Hunter, who is running for the GOP presidential nomination. “Vehicle barriers that are five feet high will do little, if anything, to stop illegal entry.”

The double-layer fence in San Diego runs 14 miles along the border with Tijuana, Mexico. The primary layer is a high steel fence, and the secondary layer is a high anti-climb fence.

The double-fence has produced some improvement in the area, according to a 2005 Congressional Research Service report that said illegal alien apprehensions along the fence region dropped from 202,000 in 1992 to 9,000 in 2004.

Concerning the proposed 700-mile fence, Hunter also noted that “pulling back from the double-fence mandate is a prescription for failure that will only allow more smugglers, criminals and illegal aliens to enter the United States through our land border with Mexico. If enacted, this legislation would represent a significant step backwards in the effort to secure our borders.”

“The Logic of the Spirit” by Jack Kinsella

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Some time back, the Salvation Army refused to hire an atheist on the grounds that a person couldn’t work for a Christian organization if he didn’t believe in Christ.

The New York Civil Liberties Union launched an immediate lawsuit charging the organization with religious discrimination.

The case arose after The Salvation Army began to require all employees in its Social Services for Children division to fill out a form on which they:

a) identify their church affiliation and all other churches attended for the past decade,

b) authorize their religious leaders to reveal private communications to the Salvation Army; and

c) pledge to adhere to the religious mission of The Salvation Army which, according to The Salvation Army, is to “preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

The mainstream media went ballistic. Headlines like “Non-Christians Need Not Apply” gave way to “the Salvation Army’s War on the Poor” and “A Tale of a Greedy Charity.”

When the ACLU isn’t going after the Salvation Army for religious discrimination, it is going after the Boy Scouts for sexual discrimination.

It sounds like the punch line for a joke: “What are you gonna do? Sue the Salvation Army for being religious?”

Or maybe a challenge . . . “Sure. I’ll believe that when the Boy Scouts get sued for not having gay scoutmasters.”

I mean, it sounds crazy. The Salvation Army being sued for expecting its employees to concur with the organization’s mission statement.

The employee who filed the lawsuit said she worked for the Salvation Army for 25 years and was ‘blindsided’ by the organization’s ‘new’ rules.

(Gasp! The Salvation Army is Christian??? So THAT’S what that ‘Salvation’ part stands for. . . who knew?)

It is difficult to imagine a more ridiculous lawsuit.

The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 by William and Catherine Booth and was dedicated from its inception to the mission of “bringing Christian salvation to the poor, destitute and hungry by meeting both their physical and spiritual needs.”

But the plaintiff in the suit worked for the Sally Ann for a quarter century, starting on that job more than a hundred years after that organization wrote its mission statement, and complained in her suit that she was ‘blindsided’ to learn it was dedicated to the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

On the other side of the spectrum, a Christian biologist has filed a lawsuit against the federally-funded Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

Nathaniel Abraham was fired in 2004 because he did not believe in evolution. Abraham is a ‘zebrafish specialist’ (whatever that means) and he claims his civil rights were violated by his firing.

He claims that shortly after he told his supervisor that he believed the Bible presented an accurate account of creation, he was dismissed for his beliefs.

Abraham, who was dismissed eight months after he was hired, said he was willing to do research using evolutionary concepts but drew the line at the choice between accepting Darwin’s theory of evolution as scientific fact or losing his job.

The Woods Hole group said in a statement it firmly believed its actions and those of its employees in the case were “entirely lawful” and that it does not discriminate.

The reason that Abraham was forced to file a lawsuit was because the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination dismissed his complaint, ruling in favor of Woods Hole.

It argued (perfectly logically) that it would be difficult for Woods Hole to employ someone to advance a theory that the employee disagrees with — and upheld his firing.

I say it was ‘perfectly logical’ to dismiss Abraham under these circumstances because it IS perfectly logical.

The Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination concluded that Abraham knew, or should have known, that Woods Hole’s biology was rooted in the theory of evolution.

Once again, that is completely logical. If I was planning to hire an editorial assistant, I wouldn’t hire a Buddhist, or a Muslim, or even just any old Christian.

Since the Omega Letter approaches Scripture from a premillennial, Dispensational perspective, I wouldn’t hire a preterist, for example.

That isn’t discrimination — I don’t care WHAT they believe. I just care what they teach in my name.

Abraham’s argument makes as much sense logically as a high-school French teacher complaining about being dismissed for opposing French classes.

So why is it so hard for the courts to apply the same logic when it comes to Christian ministries or issues of Christian faith? If Woods Hole can require a belief in evolution, why is it discriminatory for the Salvation Army to require a belief in God?

Or for the Boy Scouts to refuse to hire adult supervisors who may view young boys as sex objects? There is no corresponding effort to legitimize men as Girl Scout leaders for the same good and logical reasons.

Why does this same logic reverse itself when the target is a Christian organization?

Things that are natural are natural, that is to say, they follow a natural, logical progression. So logically, a creationist would make a lousy researcher on evolution, and, if one continues to follow the logic, dismissing him makes as much sense as would the Salvation Army dismissing an atheist.

But while the courts can see the logic in the Wood’s Hole case, they cannot grasp it when it comes to the Boy Scouts or the Salvation Army. This is evidence of both the existence of God and the Divine truth of the Scriptures.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1st Corinthians 2:14)

Children in U.K. Targeted by Terror Teaching Sing-Along DVD For Would-Be Suicide Bombers

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

In my opinion, the people doing this truly deserve the deepest pits of hell. Be sure to follow the original link and look at the photos in the article.

A shocking sing-along children’s DVD which glorifies suicide bombing is being investigated by anti-terrorist police after being found on sale in one of Britain’s terrorist hotbeds.

The disc – part of an Egyptian-made series – is on sale in West Yorkshire, where three of the July 7 bombers lived, and is aimed at youngsters from the local Muslim community.

Introduced by a cute cartoon chicken, it contains three songs in Arabic which are illustrated with a video story. But any impression of its being an innocent music DVD is immediately dispelled by a song with English subtitles about two children who lose their mother when she blows herself up in a suicide bomb attack.

The song, sung as if told by the bomber’s daughter, ends with the young Arabic girl vowing to follow in her mother’s footsteps.

It is believed to have been inspired by Palestinian Reem-al-Reyashi, a 22-year-old mother of two who killed four Israelis when she blew herself up at a Gaza Strip checkpoint on January 14, 2004.

In the DVD an Arab woman is seen playing with her two children. She then makes a bomb out of sticks of dynamite in the bedroom as her young daughter enters. The woman leaves home with dynamite tucked into her dress and blows herself up after being challenged by soldiers leaving her children and husband to learn of her death on TV.

To the sounds of haunting music there are graveyard scenes, along with pictures of the dead bomber looking serene and dressed in white.

Her daughter finds a stick of dynamite in her mother’s wardrobe. The girl, aged about five or six, turns to the camera with the subtitles: “My love will not be by words. I will follow my mother’s steps.”

Detractors Searching for Faults with Huckabee, See Bookshelf as Cross in Ad

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

It’s really sad when detractors are so desperate to disparage someone that they have to invent controversy. So is the case with the latest ad from presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee.
In his latest Ad, he wishes everyone a Merry Christmas. That’s it.
But his detractors have to find something wrong. What’s that? No, that…the thing behind his right shoulder. Is it a cross? Did the Christian politician dare to put the image of a cross in his ad? It must be!! It has to be blatant attempt to ram his faith down our throats!! How dare a Christian show us a cross!!!
Um…hello? Actually, it’s just a shelf. Do you see the bowl of Christmas balls sitting on it? One does not typically put a bowl of Christmas balls on one arm of the cross. We have shelves to do that with. Not crosses, but shelves. One more time…We put bowls of Christmas balls on shelves, not crosses. Got it?
I doubt it, but one may hope.

Mike Huckabee Ad

In a new television ad debuting Tuesday in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee does the unthinkable – he wishes early voters “Merry Christmas.”

Wearing a red sweater and standing before a glowing Christmas tree as “Silent Night” plays in the background, the former Arkansas governor asks viewers if they’re “about worn out of all the television commercials you’ve been seeing, mostly about politics.”

Behind Huckabee appears to be a white cross, which may be intersecting shelf lines or a window pane and slowly moves to the right on the screen until it’s behind his head.

But the ordained Baptist minister, who has been riding a wave of evangelical support with his open religious appeals, said Tuesday that it’s just a bookshelf and defended the ad.

“If we are so politically correct in this country that a person can’t say ‘enough of the nonsense with the political attack ads could we pause for a few days and say Merry Christmas to each other,’ then we’re really, really in trouble as a country,” Huckabee said, speaking in Houston, Texas.

In the ad, Huckabee says, “At this time of year, sometimes it’s nice to pull aside from all of that and remember that what really matters is the celebration of the birth of Christ.”

“I hope you and your family have a magnificent Christmas season. God bless you and Merry Christmas.”

Catholic League president Bill Donahue said Huckabee went beyond wishing people a joyous holiday. Donahue said he was especially disturbed by the cross-like image created in the background of the ad, saying he believed it was a subliminal message.

“What he’s trying to say to the evangelicals in western Iowa (is): I’m the real thing,” Donahue said Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends. “You know what, sell yourself on your issues, not on what your religion is.”

Huckabee said the bookshelf is “nothing more than a bookshelf” and shrugged off the controversy: “I will confess this: If you play the spot backwards it says, ‘Paul is dead. Paul is dead.”‘

He was joking about the Beatles’ recording of “The White Album” and the urban legend that if a portion of the album is played backwards, the words “Paul is dead” is heard, a reference to the very much alive Paul McCartney.

Meanwhile, rival Mitt Romney launched a new TV ad yesterday slamming Huckabee, the ex-Arkansas governor, for commuting the sentences of 1,033 criminals – including 12 convicted murderers. “Huckabee granted more clemencies than the previous three governors combined,” says the 30-second Romney attack ad.

“The difference between us is that I did something he never had to do. I carried out the death penalty 16 times, more than any other governor in my state’s history,” Huckabee told reporters in Los Angeles before attending a Beverly Hills fundraiser. “That’s hardly soft on crime when you make that tough decision and actually carry it out.”

Romney’s state of Massachusetts does not have capital punishment.

Muslim Brides Undergoing Painful Vaginal Surgery to ‘Re-virginize’ for Wedding Nights

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Another example of the dangers of Islam.

On her wedding night, Aisha Salim will hand her blooded sheets to her in-laws as proof of her virginity, according to a story in The Daily Telegraph of Australia.

But there’s one problem. Being a modern English university graduate, she is far from the traditional untouched Muslim bride.

Like most woman her age, Salim has smoked, drank, had sex and even lived with one of her past boyfriends.

However, if the devout Muslim family of her soon-to-be husband – or even her own family – knew this, she could be murdered.

Aisha has opted to have her virginity surgically restored in a delicate but painful surgery called hymenoplasties — where the hymen is re-created from the already torn tissue, or a new membrane is inserted.

“If my husband cannot prove to his family that I am a virgin, I would be hounded, ostracised and sent home in disgrace,” Salim told England’s Daily Mail.

“My father, who is a devout Muslim, would regard it as the ultimate shame. The entire family could be cast out from the friends and society they hold dear, and I honestly believe that one of my fanatically religious cousins or uncles might kill me in revenge, to purge them of my sins. Incredible as it may seem, honour killings are still accepted within our religion.

“Ever since my family arranged this marriage for me, I’ve been terrified that, on my wedding night, my secret would come out. It has only been since my surgery last week that I’ve actually been able to sleep properly. Now, I can look forward to my marriage.”

Salim is far from alone in seeking such drastic — and almost barbaric — surgery.

The rise in Islamic fundamentalism has seen 24 women in the U.K. have the procedure between 2005 and 2006.

“We Will Not Tolerate Honor Killings in the West…” by Dr. Phyllis Chesler

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Aqsa Parvez, the tragic sixteen year old slain by her father in an honor killing in Canada, was buried secretly and privately. Her teenage friends arrived hours too late at the Islamic Center where they had been told her funeral would take place. The kind of family and culture capable of honor murder (she and her family are all Pakistani immigrants) is also quite capable of denying her Canadian friends the opportunity of paying their last respects.

Perhaps Aqsa’s family did not want a western-style “scene” at her funeral. Perhaps they viewed Aqsa’s westernized friends as enemies who stole their daughter from them. No doubt, as Pakistani immigrants, they are deeply invested in the subordination of women as the very sign and symbol of their religious and cultural identity—the bedrock of which consists of female obedience to male authority. Obviously, from Aqsa’s father’s point of view, he had no choice. A Muslim girl whose hair or face is uncovered is viewed as a prostitute or as an out-of-control female who, for the sake of her family’s honor, must be killed.

Thus, while I understand the wrenching, cultural conflict involved, including the rejection of a shallow secular culture which condemns women in yet another way—I must, on behalf of the martyred Aqsa and on behalf of so many other girls who have suffered her fate, still say: Enough! We will not allow such criminal barbarism to gain a foothold in the West.

Now is the time for all good multi-culturalists to reconsider their views and for everyone who judges Israel and America harshly for its alleged human rights abuses of Palestinians and terrorists, to begin to judge Islam just as harshly for its criminal subordination of Muslim girls and women.

Aqsa Parvez could have been saved. Apparently, she had twice fled her home and had moved into a shelter. However, following a classic pattern, her family wrote to her, claimed that they could not “sleep without her home,” told her that she would not have to wear the hijab, and persuaded her to return home.

In The Death of Feminism: What’s Next in the Struggle for Women’s Freedom, I recount examples of Muslim families both in the West and in the Islamic East who trick their daughters into returning home so that they can kill them.

In Aqsa’s case, within weeks, she ran away from home a second time.

At this point, she really might have been saved—but only if the western shelter had understood that Aqsa needed the equivalent of a federal witness protection program to protect her from her family for the rest of her life. Nothing less would do since her father and brother would have murderously stalked her for the rest of her life. And, Aqsa would also have needed a warm and understanding alternative family to adopt her. Yes—adopt her. Life without a protective family is not a life most Muslim immigrants would deem worth living.

Is Canada prepared to invest in such programs? Are America or Europe?

While we may or may not be able to abolish honor killings in Muslim lands, we are absolutely responsible for the proliferation of Islamic gender Apartheid—or its abolition—in the West.

Honor murders, daughter- and wife-beating, female genital mutilation, female illiteracy, and polygamy are crimes in the West and must be prosecuted as such.

Yes, I favor cultural “sensitivity.” Therefore, I know that Islam is a political and military movement and not just a religion. Yes, I understand that Islamic religious beliefs may seemingly be at odds with modernity and women’s rights, but I also know that other great religions have managed to find a way to straddle the Great Divide between religious belief and modern, democratic public life. Islam must do no less if its followers wish to live in the West or in the modern world. The “sensitivity” must be in both directions.

According to the Toronto Star, Aqsa Parvez’s friends attended an anti-violence vigil at the Mississauga Civic Centre which was organized by the Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations. (In my experience, in the United States, and as one commentator has pointed out, CAIR essentially fights for civil rights for shar’ia law.) At the CAIR event, “One speaker explained they would say a prayer to comfort those who weren’t able to attend the funeral.’Take mercy on Aqsa,’ the prayer went, ‘and on us who are left behind.’ “

Canadians might consider creating an Aqsa Parvez Shelter for Muslim women who are being battered or threatened with honor killing.

I would go further. It is time for Western democracies to start screening potential immigrants in their home countries as to their views about women. If we did so, at the very least, we might have an opportunity to educate would-be immigrants in the ways of the West long before they actually take up residence amongst us.

Girl, 10, Arrested for Using Knife to Cut Food at School

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

More stupidity from our school administrators, who use the so-called “zero tolerance” to punish students who haven’t done anything wrong. I would like to advise you to inundate this school with emails telling them to start judging students for who they are and what they have done, and throw away the farce of “zero-tolerance”.

A 10-year-old Florida girl faces felony weapons charges after bringing a small steak knife to school to cut up her lunch, according to a report on WFTV.com.

School officials say the Ocala 5th grader had brought a piece of steak for her lunch, and had brought a steak knife. According to the report, a couple of teachers took the utensil and called authorities, who arrested the girl and took her to the county’s juvenile assessment center.

“She did not use it inappropriately. She did not threaten anyone with it. She didn’t pull it out and brandish it. Nothing of that nature,” explained Marion County School Spokesman Kevin Christian, who added that it made no difference what the knife was being used for, they had no choice but to call police.

“Anytime there’s a weapon on campus, yes, we have to report it and we aggressively report it because we don’t want to take any chances, regardless,” Christian said.

The girl now faces a felony charge for possessing a weapon on school property and has been suspended from school for 10 days. The parents of the girl could not be reached for comment, WFTV.com reported.
