NYC Ads Target Gay Couples

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Is it really necessary for New York City to use taxpayer dollars to urge gays to visit their city?

City officials for the first time are specifically targeting gay and lesbian travelers, to help meet Mayor Bloomberg’s goal of drawing 50 million visitors to the Big Apple by 2015, The Post has learned.

NYC & Company, the city’s tourism arm, took out a three-page ad in the December/January issue of Out, a popular gay- and lesbian-interest magazine.

The agency also has launched a $30 million, 19-country campaign called “This is New York City.”

Commercials have also been placed on LOGO, a national cable network that tailors its programming to gay viewers. They will be aired over the coming weeks.

There will also be ads on similarly themed gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Web sites – and advertising will be stepped up next year around Valentine’s Day.

NYC & Company said it is reaching out to the demographic because it contains a large number of big spenders, usually with two incomes and no children. They are “highly desirable and considered a dream market due to high incidence of travel and discretionary income,” said one Bloomberg administration official.

“What we’re saying is, ‘This is New York, and it’s for everyone, whether you are a family or you’re just here with your lover.’ ”

Similar campaigns have been successful in Philadelphia, Chicago and Phoenix. Airlines and hotel chains have used advertising targeted at same-sex couples.

Temple Institute Announces High Priest’s Crown Ready

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Thought this was interesting.

The Temple Institute in Jerusalem announces the completion of the Tzitz, the High Priest’s headplate – now ready for use in the Holy Temple.

The tzitz is made of pure gold, was fashioned over the course of a more than a year by the craftsmen of the Temple Institute, and is ready to be worn by the High Priest in the rebuilt Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

The words “Holy for G-d” are engraved on the headplate, in accordance with Exodus 28:36. A short video clip presenting the tzitz can be viewed here.

Rabbi Chaim Richman, International Director of the Temple Institute, explained to Arutz-7 that until it can actually be used, the tzitz will be on view in the Institute’s permanent exhibition display, together with other vessels and priestly garments fashioned for use in the Holy Temple by the Institute.

Legal Aspects: Impurity and Hekdesh
Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, Director of the Institute, explained some of the Halakhic [Jewish legal] aspects of the fashioning of the vessels for the Temple. “For one thing,” he said, “they are made in impurity – for now we are impure, and will remain impure until we are able to have a Red Heifer whose ashes can be used in the Torah-prescribed purification ceremony. If no Red Heifer is available, then the High Priest must even serve in the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur in a state of impurity.”

Roe IQ – What Do You Know About the Abortion Debate?

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

With the 35th anniversary approaching, take this quiz to find out just how much you know about Roe vs. Wade.

January 22, 2008 marks the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling that dramatically changed our nation.
In spite of its impact, true understanding of Roe and what it accomplished remains relatively vague in the public consciousness.
We can expect both sides in the abortion debate to ratchet up arguments in the coming months as we mark this anniversary. It is imperative that we, as citizens, understand the facts about what Roe does and does not do.

We have created the Roe IQ Test to measure the current awareness of Roe and its effects, as well as to provide detailed information about the ruling. It only takes a few minutes to complete the test. Your answers and results will remain 100% confidential.

We hope you will take the IQ Test and invite your friends to do the same. If you think you know Roe, we think you’ll be surprised!

‘Olmert gave us the Temple Mount,’ say Palestinians

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Olmert is going to give up so much of God’s land that Israel will be in an indefensible position. They truly will have to depend on the direct intervention of God to save them from complete annihilation.

A senior Palestinian negotiator says Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert lied last week when he said Israel’s control of Jerusalem’s Temple Mount is not up for negotiation.

Speaking to WorldNetDaily, the Palestinian official revealed that Olmert has already all but signed away the holy site.

“What Olmert said (regarding the Mount) is absolutely false. I think he’s not yet ready to tell the Israeli public and is waiting for the right time,” said the negotiator. “We had intense debates on many topics, which remain open and unsettled, but the Harem Al-Sharif (Temple Mount) is not a sticking point. The Israelis didn’t argue with us.”

According to the deal Olmert reportedly agreed to on the Temple Mount, the site would be surrendered to joint control by Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority.

Israel, Vatican Close to Historic Accord

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

We know, from the Bible, that in end times, the Anti-Christ will arise out of a revitalized Roman Empire. I see this accord, between the Vatican and Israel, just one more step in that direction.

Israel and the Vatican are close to concluding a historic bilateral accord on the legal and financial status of the Roman Catholic Church in Israel, the country’s ambassador said Monday.

“We are very close to the conclusion of this historic accord,” Oded Ben Hur was quoted as saying by Italy’s ANSA news agency at a debate organised by a pontifical university in Rome.

The text under negotiation is the economic section of the fundamental agreement on relations the Vatican and Israel signed in December 1993.

“About 85 percent of the text has been examined and approved by the representatives of Israel and the Vatican,” said the ambassador.

Negotiations on the text resumed in 2004 after a 10-year hiatus, and Ben Hur said the next round of talks will take place on December 13 in Israel.

Israel Frees Palestinian Prisoners As Gesture to Abbas

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

And as usual, the pali terrorist give Israel nothing in return…

Jerusalem (CNSNews.com) – Israel freed 429 Palestinian security prisoners on Monday as part of the ongoing effort to bolster Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Israel made the decision to release only those prisoners who have not killed Israelis. Nevertheless, some of them are linked to attempted terror attacks.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said the peace process goes beyond summit meetings and “has to be reinforced by practical measures on the ground.”

P.A. Minister of Prisoner Affairs Ashraf Al-Ajrami said in a radio interview in Hebrew that while the P.A. welcomed every prisoner release, it wanted to see thousands of Palestinians released from Israeli jails as a result of negotiations on a permanent status agreement.

Israel is holding some 9,000 Palestinians in prison for terror-related offenses, and Abbas reportedly wanted 2,000 of them freed.

Releasing thousands, not hundreds, of Palestinian security prisoners would be an important step in strengthening Abbas and everyone who wants peace, Al-Ajrami said.

Most of the prisoners released on Monday belonged to Abbas’ Fatah faction and will return to the West Bank.

This is Israel’s second prisoner release in the last few months.

One Israeli commentator said Israel is most concerned about the freed prisoners committing additional terrorist acts, as has happened in the past. (See earlier story)

Attorney: Case on Texas Monument not Closed Yet

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Keep praying about this one, folks.

The monument, donated by Star of Hope Mission and prominently featured a King James Bible, was placed outside of Houston’s Harris County courthouse in 1956 in honor of local businessman and philanthropist William Mosher. But now the Mission and Harris County are appealing a district court ruling that accuses them of illegally promoting religion. However, a full panel of a federal appeals court declared the case moot because renovations had put the statue in question in storage.

David Cortman of Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) believes the high court’s justices will consider the case based on its merit. He says the question of whether or not the offended plaintiff’s attorney’s fees should be paid by the County on a moot case was the only issue the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear.

“So what’s interesting about this case [is] it will be back,” says Cortman. “When this monument gets [put back in place] — which my understanding is it will when all the renovations are done — I am fairly certain the plaintiff will come once again and cry foul and say that she is offended.”

The ADF attorney says the woman who filed the complaint had to walk out of her way to get to the monument and then look down to view its Bible in order to be “offended.” Cortman calls that an abuse of what the Constitution permits, and a loophole in the law that needs to be fixed.

Family Activist Says Studies Show Damaging Effects of Porn Use

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

I feel that Pornography is going to be “the straw that breaks the camel’s back” for our country. If one takes time to examine the root cause of most (if not all) of societal extinctions, one can see that sexual immorality played a significant role.

According to the study, published in the Journal of Research in Personality, 60 percent of males said that if they thought they would not get caught, they would be willing to force a woman to do something against her will, or even rape her. Mary Anne Layden, co-director of the Sexual Trauma and Psychopathology Program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Cognitive Therapy, attributes those findings to prolonged pornography exposure.

Pat Trueman is with the Alliance Defense Fund. He says the wide availability of pornography has been especially harmful to college students. “College kids have been consuming large amounts of it on a daily basis. Many college kids are spending more time on the Internet looking at porn than they are studying or going to class. It’s changing their behavior,” says Trueman. “What the studies are showing is they view sex as recreation. It’s not at all about intimacy, it’s not at all about love, caring, or respect; it’s only a recreation.”

Trueman says those who use porn as young adult have a tough time with faithfulness and intimacy if they get married. Individuals who have a porn addiction, he says, are prone to mistreating their spouse.

Border Patrol Chief: Mission is Only to Stop Terrorists, Terrorist Weapons

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

This just might have something to do with the fact that we can’t keep up with the illegal immigration problem.

Judicial Watch (JW) says it obtained the videotape and transcript of an August 15, 2007, town hall meeting in Laredo, Texas, through the Freedom of Information Act. JW president Tom Fitton says Laredo Sector Chief Carlos Carrillo told the audience that the Border Patrol’s job is not to stop illegal aliens, narcotics, or criminals, but to keep the nation safe by stopping terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the U.S.

Such a limitation on the Border Patrol’s range of responsibilities is “absurd,” says Fitton. “This official’s description of what the Border Patrol is supposed to do is absolutely crazy,” he offers. “[Of course] we want the Border Patrol to stop terrorists. And the best way to do that, we think, is to stop virtually everyone from crossing the border in an unauthorized manner.”

But Fitton wonders if Carrillo inadvertently exposed the true attitude of other officials at the Border Patrol. “My concern is that [he] is kind of incorporating an informal attitude of top officials at the Border Patrol,” says the Judicial Watch leader. “The question is, is he speaking for anyone else there?
