Mother, Who Delayed Cancer Treatments so Baby Could Live, Dies

Friday, January 25th, 2008

What a selfless person. Talk about living the life God wants us to live, this wonderful woman personified it. Please join me in praying for her family and friends.

Lorraine Allard

Expectant mother Lorraine Allard learned the devastating news that she was in the advanced stages of liver cancer when she was four months pregnant, according to the Daily Mail.

Allard, of St. Olaves in the U.K., had a choice: Delay treatment to save her baby, or terminate the pregnancy to save herself.

She chose the former, waiting until the fetus was viable before scheduling a Caesarean section.

“If I am going to die, my baby is going to live,” Allard told her husband, Martyn, according to the Mail.

The baby came a week early and Allard, 33, gave birth on Nov. 18 to a healthy but premature boy she named Liam.

Exactly two months later, Allard died. She’d begun chemotherapy just after her son’s birth. But in the end, it was too late.

Doctors believe Allard had bowel cancer that had gone undetected for years, eventually spreading to her liver. She realized something was wrong after she began suffering from stomach cramps, and tests revealed that her liver was covered with malignant tumors, the Mail reported.

“The doctors said they couldn’t do anything because she was pregnant,” Martyn Allard, 34, told the Mail. “She told them straight away they were not going to get rid of it. She’d have lost the will to fight.”

The courageous and selfless mother was able to get out of bed and hold her tiny son several times beside his incubator before her death. Liam is the Allards’ fourth child and first boy; his sisters are Leah, 10; Amy, 8; and Courtney, 20 months.

“Lorraine was positive all the way through,” Martyn Allard told the paper. “She had strength for both of us. I can’t begin to describe how brave she was. Towards the end we knew things weren’t going well, but she was overjoyed that she had given life to Liam.”

“Traumatic Brain Injury and the Permanent Intifada” by Dr. Phyllis Chesler

Friday, January 25th, 2008

The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) relentlessly grinds on. They and fellow travelers have planned their annual Hate Israel follies and have called it “Israel Apartheid Week.” Rallies outside the Israeli Consulates and Embassies began on January 24th in Boston, January 25th in Philadelphia, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Seattle, on Shabbos, January 26th in New York City, Cleveland and Anaheim, and on January 29th, in Chicago.

The ISM has moved off campus and is now appearing in nine cities in six days in order to present their brand of Big Lie political theatre. Stand With Us has put out a call for pro-Israel signs and bodies to be there.

Meanwhile, the students at De Paul University have announced an Academic Freedom Conference for February 1st and 2nd. They write that people are still in a state of shock because Norman Finkelstein, the Holocaust-mocker, was denied tenure. They note that “prominent scholars ,” such as John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt (of the University of Chicago and Harvard), have been “silenced.” By whom? Their publisher, Farrar, Strauss who gave them an $850,000.00 advance? By the media, bookstores, and their own universities where they continue to speak? They also cite the “controversial tenure decisions” of Nadia Abu El-Haj and Joseph Massad (of Columbia). But both received tenure. What are these students protesting?

Oh, the thin-skinned shame of imposters, the righteous indignation when purveyors of the Big Lie are challenged.

Nevertheless, in the name of academic freedom, these students have invited the most prominent liars—alright, the most savage critics— of only-Israel: Professors Sara Roy, Bill Ayers, Robert Jensen, Mark Ellis, Juan Cole and Joel Kovel. They did not invite Rachel Ehrenfeld who is battling the Saudi “libel tourist” and billionnaire, Bin Mafouz, on behalf of our First Ammendment rights nor did they invite anyone who might have a positive view of America, Israel, and the West or a negative view of let’s say, Sudan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, or Congo.

Only speakers who are obssesed with Israel’s allegedly essential evil are qualified to represent what now passes for courageous concern with “academic freedom.”

Meanwhile, the United Nations Council on Human Rights just passed a resolution demanding that Israel lift its week-long blockade of Gaza. (I wonder if they will condemn Hamas for blasting their way into another sovereign nation. Why do I bother to ask?) Needless to say, this august Council did not condemn Hamas for firing 250 Kassam rockets upon Israeli civilians who live in Sderot within that same week.

There is something wrong with how these propagandists think. It is almost as if their brains have been altered by poisoned prejudice.

But, in addition to these (and many more) non-stop and ongoing propaganda campaigns against Israel, we have the living civilians of Sderot who are, daily, being “collectively punished” by the Kassam rockets that Hamas rains down upon them from Gaza. (The phrase is Bradley Burston’s writing in Ha’aretz).

Which leads us to the subject of brain injuries. The new issue of “Science” magazine (Vol 319, no 5862, dated January 25th), describes the work of John Hopkins neurologist, Ibolja Cernak, who, with teams in Belgrade, China, and Sweden has documented a neurological basis to what was once called “shell shock.” She describes both “immediate” and “lasting” neurological consequences with attendant psychiatric symptomatology to those, (mainly soldiers) who have not themselves been physically injured but who have been in the vicinity of repeated “blasts.”

Dr. Cernak is careful not to conflate physical injuries with the measurable, neurological damage sustained by enduring (fearing, seeing, hearing) the repeated “blasts” alone. She calls this: “Traumatic Brain Injury” (TBI). Symptoms include: Dizziness, speech problems, unexplained weeping, irritability, attention deficit disorders, insomnia, depression—some or all of the symptoms of what has previously been called Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. This time, it has a neurological basis.

So, are the civilians of Sderot suffering from TBI? Whom can they turn to for redress and for compensation for their medical treatment and for their considerable pain and suffering?

Trust me: if we don’t answer this question for Sderot residents, we will eventually be asking it about ourselves.

In the beginning, only Israel had metal detectors and extra security at its airports and embassies. Now everyone does.

The world did not stop the 2000 Intifada against Israel (the Israel-constructed security wall did that)—but now that same Intifada has gone global; weekly, terrorist attacks against European capitals are being discovered and thwarted.

The Kassam rocket blasts, unchecked, that are being endured by Israeli civilians may soon be inherited by civilians elsewhere—everywhere.

Appeasement of Muslim Terrorist Breeds More Terrorist

Friday, January 25th, 2008

To further prove that there is no making peace with the Muslims and that appeasement of them doesn’t work, a terror plot in Spain was uncovered recently.
Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs made this observation:
“Wait a minute; Spain withdrew all her troops from Iraq after the Madrid train bombings, and Spanish politicians have been doing their best to bash Israel and appease resident Islamists ever since. So why the suicide bombing plot?”

MADRID, Spain – Police acting on a tipoff that a radical Islamic group was plotting suicide attacks in Barcelona moved against the cell last week even though it had not amassed enough explosives to make bombs, Spain’s police chief said Thursday.

“They had the will but not the means,” National Police chief Joan Mesquida said a day after a judge in Madrid sent 10 suspects to jail pending further investigation.

Judge Ismael Moreno said the cell had been planning suicide attacks last weekend on the public transport network in Barcelona, Spain’s second-largest city.

The 10 suspects are nine Pakistanis and one Indian. They were among 14 men arrested Saturday; police freed two and the judge two more.

“In the case of Barcelona, the existence of a suicide profile is what made us take steps immediately in the operation,” Mesquida told Spanish Television. “We can’t take the risk of carrying out the investigation with suicide bombers and in any given moment there is an attack.”

The judge said that of the 10 people he is ordering kept in custody, three were planning to stage suicide attacks. Two others were described as ideologues and operational chiefs of the group. The others were jailed on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organization.

In a 72-page ruling, the judge said the cell was operational in terms of manpower and “very close to achieving full technical capacity in terms of explosive devices.”

The cell allegedly had detonators and a small amount of explosives — not enough to carry out a major attack, but perhaps enough for “the teaching of how to handle homemade explosive devices that would limit risk to the safety of the handlers.”

“The members of the terrorist cell that was broken up planned to carry out several suicide terrorist attacks last weekend against public transport in the city of Barcelona,” Moreno wrote.

Israel Bars Jews from Moving Lips in Prayer on Temple Mount

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Our friend, Jennifer Rast, over at the Scriptorium, has good information concerning the treatment of Jews at Temple Mount.

The Temple Mount is the holiest site in Judaism, and only the THIRD holiest site in Islam. Jerusalem didn’t even become important to Muslims until the 7th century when Caliph Abd el-Malik commissioned the best architects to build the Dome of the Rock on the conquered Temple Mount, after a successful invasion of the Jewish Holy Lands. His plan was based upon a Fourth Century Christian shrine on the Mount of Olives marking the site of Jesus’ Ascension. The Caliph’s new shrine was deliberately built as a political, economic, and religious counter attraction to Mecca. Medina and Mecca, the two cities holy to Islam, were under the control of a rival Caliph. Abd El-Malik sought to build up the importance of Jerusalem as an Islamic center for pilgrimage and worship. The holiest site in Judaism was only then identified with the spot where Mohammed’s horse ascended to heaven.

There is a great deal of evidence proving that Islam never considered the Temple Mount to be a holy site until it became politically important to the Arabs, and an excuse to wage war on the Jews. Their revisionist history has been so successful that Jews aren’t even allowed to give the APPEARANCE of praying on the Temple Mount, and anything even remotely related to Judaism is banned from being taken onto the site during the limited times when Jews are even allowed to go there. It’s not uncommon to see Jews being stoned by Palestinian youths, or arrested by Wafq police who determine the site has somehow been desecrated by their presence.

Anywhere else in the world, it would be considered totally unacceptable, and a violation of human rights, to forbid a person from praying whenever and wherever they want. The United States condemns China for their persecution of Christians (although they do little about it), and free speech laws in countries around the world would be quickly enforced if such restrictions were placed on any other religion (with the exception of Christianity, or course). Muslims would be the first to scream discrimination and Islamophobia if their right to pray five times a day were in any way hindered. Yet, the world is silent and sees absolutely no problem with religious persecution when it’s directed at Jews. Even more perplexing, a large percentage of the Jewish population sees no problem with it either. They might change their mind, though, when the Palestinians are given the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and the rockets currently being fired at them from Gaza are suddenly coming at them from all sides. Or, maybe not.

Muslim opening prayer at Iowa Statehouse Prays for “Protection From the Great Satan”

Friday, January 25th, 2008

OK, for those of you who might not have picked up on this fact yet, Muslims typically refer to the United States as the “Great Satan”.
So what we have here is a Muslim, praying at the opening of the Iowa legislature, to be protected from the United States, who he disparages with the moniker “the Great Satan”.
Does anyone else besides me have a problem with this?

The Iowa Legislature started just over a week ago and some people were upset before the first issue was every addressed.

When the session began, a Muslim Imam began the prayer in the Iowa Legislature. This is where the controversy begins. The prayer asked for “victory over those who disbelieve,” and “protection from the great Satan” among other things.

Pastor Steve Smith of the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City is among those concerned about the Muslim prayer. Rev. Smith admits that he doesn’t know about all the levels of Muslim but knows that the Jihadists believe those in the U.S. are the great Satan.

Rev. Smith also wants to point out the mention of “victory over those who disbelieve.” He feels “this is a request in the Iowa Legislature for God to grant the Muslims victory over every non-muslim. Not a request for salvation.” Smith takes it as a gesture not of prayer but more as a political statement, especially with the wars that have been going on in the Middle East.

“I’m not concerned about a Muslim Imam opening the Legislature in prayer but it concerns me with the statements that were made. He interpreted this prayer from his understanding of Islam.”

Here is the text of the opening prayer, as transcribed by Radio Iowa:

Imam Muhammad Khan of the Islamic Center of Des Moines spoke first in Arabic.

“I seek refuge in God against the accursed Satan in the name of God, most gracious, most merciful,” Khan said in English. Khan made no specific mention of the war in Iraq or foreign affairs, but he called God the “master of the day of judgment” and asked for “victory over those who disbelieve.”

“As we begin this new year…in a world with trials and tribulations, we ask you to open the hearts of our legislators and policy makers to make the right decisions for the people of Iowa,” Khan said. “…We ask that you guide our legislators and give them the wisdom and knowledge to tackle the difficult problems that face us today in order to eliminate the senseless crimes on humanity. Help them, Lord, to solve the complicated problems in the State of Iowa so that we can be a model to the world.”

Three Pigs Story Ruled ‘Offensive to Muslims’

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Everything is offensive to Muslims. Welcome to the Islamic Caliphate of the United Kingdom.

A children’s story based on the tale of the Three Little Pigs was rejected for an award after judges became concerned that it would offend Muslims, the Times of London reported.

The animated virtual book for primary school children, The Three Little Cowboy Builders, was also criticized for its potential to offend builders.

The row centered on the Bett awards, which were supported by Becta, the Government’s technology agency for schools. The judges’ remarks, reported on the education technology Web site Merlin John Online, included: “Is it true that all builders are cowboys, builders get their work blown down, and builders are like pigs?

“The idea of taking a traditional tale and retelling a story is fine, but it should not alienate parts of the workforce. Judges would not recommend this product to the Muslim community in particular.”

Ann Curtis, whose company, Shoo Fly Publishing, produced the CD-Rom, said the criticisms were unjustified and could even “propagate a racist stance”. She said: “I felt disbelief, to be honest. As a small company, we have a strong ethical and moral grounding. We support the rights of all children in the world to have access to education.

“To be told that we cynically set out to alienate minority groups is a very narrow-minded view.” She said the group had had messages of support from the local community, including Muslims. The book had already won an award in a separate competition.

But the Bett award’s backers — Becta, the Besa trade association and Emap Education — said that the book was rejected for a range of reasons. In a joint statement, they said: “The reason The Three Little Cowboy Builders was not shortlisted was that it failed to reach the required standard across a number of criteria. The . . . issues highlighted were a small selection from a much broader range of comments.

“In particular, the product was not sufficiently convincing on curriculum and innovation grounds to be shortlisted.”

The statement said the competition aimed to “reward inclusive and accessible designs” and was judged by a panel of 70 people, including many teachers.

Investors May Regret Tuesday Sell-Off, Says Financial Expert

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Art Ally, founder and president of The Timothy Plan, says Wall Street’s recent sell-off and panic resulted from traders and the media over reacting to negative news — and he’s advising Christians to be a better example of market wisdom.
Wall Street SignThe Dow Jones fell more than 400 points after the opening bell on Tuesday. Investors were reportedly reacting to big losses in global markets over the long weekend. Uncertainty in the U.S. economy — by stock traders in New York and investors around the world — drove the market down, analysts say.

The Timothy Plan is a Christian-owned mutual fund company. Its founder believes investors may regret Tuesday’s panicked reaction. “There are times in market history when it goes into feeding frenzy, and that’s what’s happening right now — they are feeding on fear,” Ally maintains.

Ally warns that Christians should be able to stay confident, however, even without the Federal rate cut and economic stimulus promises that the U.S. government is mulling. He says Tuesday was good practice for people of faith, who unfortunately tend to react like the world reacts. “We tend to have all of our sense of security and comfort and well-being tied to the almighty dollar instead of to the Almighty,” he observes.

Life on Mars?

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

It’s amazing what people are willing to believe. The Great Deceiver, otherwise known as Satan, plays on this natural urge of ours constantly.

Life On Mars?

Perched on a rock, she could be waiting for a bus. But if so, she could be in for an awfully long wait.

This photo of what looks remarkably like a female figure with her arm outstretched, was taken on Mars.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it has set the Internet abuzz with claims that there really is life on the red planet.

Others may well feel that it is simply an optical illusion caused by a landscape.
The image was among many sent back to Earth by Spirit, Nasa’s Mars explorer vehicle which landed there four years ago.

Initial inspections revealed nothing unusual, but closer examination by amateur astronomers has thrown up this intriguing picture.
As one enthusiast put it on a website: “These pictures are amazing. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw what appears to be a naked alien running around on Mars.”
Another, dismissing cynicism about the somewhat stony look of the “alien”, wrote: “If you show me another rock in another photo from Mars, or Earth, that naturally looks like that, I will reconsider.”
A third contributor, who might have come closer to the majority view, said: “Ah, the human eye can be tricked so easily.”

“An All-American Hero: Jody Williams, a Former Sex Slave” by Dr. Phyllis Chesler

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

According to Las Vegas ex-prostitute Jody Williams, founder of Sex Workers Anonymous, we should compare the “promotion of prostitution with the way the tobacco companies market cigarettes. “They’re taking advantage of your ignorance of the industry,” she told the Pahrump Valley Times on September 7, 2007 at a press conference.

Williams said ex-prostitutes came to her organization suffering from a variety of physical and emotional disorders. “Women in prostitution suffer from the same combat stress that Vietnam and combat vets do, but they have fewer services than vets do,” she said.

The illegal pimps are replaced by “the legal pimps” in the brothels, Williams charged.

“The current law in Nevada which allows legal prostitution and talks about wanting them to use their earnings to generate tax dollars for the state of Nevada actually makes the state of Nevada a third pimp for these women,” Williams said.

I do not believe that any Presidential candidate has been seriously questioned about this issue—not in the recent Nevada primaries, and not elsewhere. They should be—because the issue is that of slavery. It is easy to decry historical examples of the human slave trade but we have an even bigger global slave trade currently underway: that of sexual slavery.

This is the saddest subject for me and one about which I know too much. I have been writing about this subject from the mid 1970s on and I continued to soldier on during the great feminist Sex Wars when feminist anti-prostitution abolitionists /anti-pornography activists were demonized as puritanical man-haters who were willing to endanger abortion rights, the First Ammendment, and woman’s sexual freedom . In turn, the anti-Censorship activists were also demonized as faux-feminists, heartless Stalinists, and First Ammendment fanatics.

Neither side took any prisoners. Both sides made important points. I made it a point not to demonize anyone and to try to keep working with everyone. Outsiders often under-estimate the ferocity of this struggle among American feminists. In the short run, the abolitionists lost, both in the universities and in feminist movement circles.

Now, thirty-three years later, most feminists on both sides of the aisle understand that sexual slavery (or “trafficking”) cannot be confused with sexual freedom. And many feminists work on legislation for the American government that is meant to enforce the laws against pimps and sometimes against Johns. Some of these feminists are also God-fearing conservatives; some are not. Some are abolitionist refugees from the great feminist Sex Wars or from the domestic violence shelter movement.

In the early 1990s, I read every study and every book about prostitution and about serial murder that I could find. Why? Because I was putting together a “dream-team” for Aileen Carol Wuornos, the so-called first woman serial killer in Florida. (This is the woman whom Charlize Theron brilliantly impersonated in the film Monster). Although Wuornos had wanted us to testify, her lawyer, a public defender named Trish Jenkins, never called my “dream team .” This omission became one of the grounds upon which her death sentence was appealed. Of course, after a decade on Death Row, the same state that had executed Ted Bundy executed Wuornos too. I wrote a book about her but I never published it. That’s a story for another day but suffice it to say: I told the story through her eyes. And yes, I corresponded with and met her and an incredibly sordid cast of Florida scavengers and pirates.

I learned how dangerous “the (prostituted) life” really is, how prostituted women become third- and fourth-class citizens, isolated, practically invisible, and how hard it is to ever return to “straight” life. Prostituted women turn to drugs and drink in order to endure the soul-scorching “work.” They do not become rich. Girls are also no longer as desirable or as marketable once they look older than twenty five. Twelve-year olds (or those who can pass for twelve) are in high demand.

Prostituted women are also the ones whom serial killers prey upon and whom college-age men and kinky Johns gang-rape, torture, rob, and kill. Despite all the myths and lies, there is nothing glamorous about this life. If this were truly desirable work, the daughters of millionnaires would swell the ranks—and this is not the case.

I do not favor legalizing prostitution. It is not a “victim-less” crime. The prostitutes are the victims. (Of course, I do not favor fining or jailing prostitutes; Johns, perhaps, but not prostitutes).

The real heroes are the prostituted women who have themselves miraculously escaped from slavery and who turn right around and help other girls and women to do so. Even the Biblical Moses was reared as a Prince of Egypt; liberators may require just such training in order to endure what a struggle for liberation entails. Slaves—? They turn on each other and on their liberators too. A slave-liberator? They are rare.

Jody Williams is one such incredible hero. How many of us would dare to return to Hell over and over again, risking everything? And, where is “north” for a sex slave on the run? Jody insisted on using her real name for this interview. She lives in Las Vegas. Once Jody began organizing, helping other prostitutes escape, and naming names, she endangered herself in terrifying ways. According to Williams, police and other state officials in Las Vegas personally profit from both legal and illegal prostitution.

Hence, her phone lines were cut as were her computer cable wires. Her electricity and water were mysteriously shut off—and were only restored with the intercesson of a sympathetic elected official. Her daughter was run down in broad daylight by a car and sustained many broken bones.

These things all happened within 24-60 hours after she participasted in a press conference about sex trafficking last fall in Las Vegas. Jody’s own health has been seriously compromised. Despite this, she soldiers on against extraordinary odds.

Here is part of an interview I conducted with her on the phone and via email. If you are moved by reading this and wish to make a donation to her work, please contact me at my Blogsite and I will put her in touch with you.

Phyllis: How old are you? What is your educational background?

Jody: I’m 47 years old now. I left high school at 15 and started community college at 16. I dropped out at 19 to be in the sex industry. I’m now a few classes away from my BA degree.

Phyllis: Where did you grow up? What is your family background?

Jody: I grew up in Los Angeles and left home because I could not cope with living with my mentally ill abusive mother any longer. I got a job as a cocktail waitress so I could continue on with college after my father ripped off my college money. It was there I met the people who indoctrinated me into the sex industry. This was in Tarzana, CA about 1980.

Phyllis: What do you tell people who insist that prostitution is a “choice?”

Jody: One could argue that when a man says he’ll kill your kids in the other bedroom if you scream for help while he rapes you and you decide to protect the children to cooperate—that this means you were not raped. For a long time when I thought about quitting, I knew it would mean I could potentially be hurt and/or killed or set up with the police if I did so. This may mean I “chose” not to take that kind of punishment by continuing—but I wouldn’t call that a choice. Choice means having “other options.” Sometimes you don’t have other options even when a gun isn’t pointed directly at your head.

Phyllis: How did you finally manage to escape from the sex industry?

Jody: I tried for years to find help to get out of the sex industry – but found I could not do it without help and I couldn’t find the help I needed. I did not abuse drugs and the only programs offered at that time were drug programs. I was lucky enough to meet a group of Veterans who were able to help me through the adjustment through the 12 steps of Narcotics Anonymous and through their understanding of PTSD.

Phyllis: What set you on your current path of helping other women who want to escape?

Jody: When I went back to some old friends to do “amends” I found everyone was either dead, dying or in prison and I was the only one left basically. I realized we needed to make help more available.

Phyllis: Why do women return to the sex industry after they’ve tried hard to leave it behind?

Jody: I don’t believe women “change their mind” to return. I think they sometimes second guess their decision out of fear that someone may come to harm if they don’t return. I think sometimes the drugs wear off and it’s the detox talking. Sometimes it’s depression setting in which makes you doubt everything. Sometimes it’s the brainwashing kicking in the pimps have programmed there to return the women like homing pigeons. So when a woman starts talking about “returning” I say we need to carefully examine where those feelings are coming from. It’s never been really them wanting to go back either.

Phyllis: What is happening for you right now, after the fallout from going public last fall?

Jody: After being hit by that car, my daughter has been confined to total bedrest. So my finances are non-existent right now. This gives me a choice – either stop my work helping these women or start reaching out to outside funding sources for help. Actually this is a blessing in disguise. If I were to have died – then my work would have ceased entirely.

I realized after being so sick like this that I need to set up a system that will go on after I die to help these women – so that’s what I’m working on now. I’ve had more difficulties with the police than I can tell you about. I had trouble with the police when I was in the business and now that I’m out of it trying to help women.

Phyllis: How do you financially manage to do rescue work?

Jody: I used to fund everything out of my paychecks – but the last couple of years I’ve been on SSI and can’t do that anyone. I’ve had to look into fund raising and it’s not something people want to donate to usually. I’m between a rock and a hard place with funding right now because of this problem.

Phyllis: Thank you so much for your time and for your amazing work.

Minuteman Spokesman: Incursions Across Border Violate U.S. Sovereignty

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

I say it’s time to put the military on our border. Not some toothless unarmed military, but the real one, armed to the teeth with a standing order to shoot.

Al Garza with the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps says a recent report by a watchdog organization confirms what he has personally witnessed — numerous incursions by Mexican soldiers and police across the U.S. border.

Garza, national executive director of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, has seen the Border Patrol report obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act. That report confirms 29 incursions of Mexican police or military personnel during the fiscal year 2006. Garza says he has personally witnessed incursions in several border states.

“I’ve seen them in Arizona, where I currently reside; I’ve seen them in New Mexico, and I’ve also seen them in Texas,” he shares. But no one wants to report the incursions, he says, because they do not wish to “insult” Mexico. Garza takes issue with that concern.

Ex-N.Y. Prosecutor Charged with Teen Sex

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Another case in the ever growing list of sex crimes against teens.

NEW CITY, N.Y. – An ex-prosecutor and former PTA president who is also the wife of a suburban police chief has been charged with having sex, smoking marijuana and drinking with high-school-age children.

Beth Modica, 44, a former assistant district attorney in Rockland County and Queens, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to counts including statutory rape, sex abuse and endangering children.

Her hands were cuffed in front of her in court, where the indictment was unsealed. She later posted $75,000 bail.

Her husband is police chief of Spring Valley. He is “not implicated whatsoever,” Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said.

The 35-count indictment says that, beginning in July, Modica had intercourse with a 16-year-old, as well as oral sex with that boy and a 15-year-old. The judge issued orders of protection for the boys.

Modica, a former PTA president at Sloatsburg Elementary School, also is accused of drinking with many other children at her home and smoking marijuana with them in her car.

Modica would face a prison term of 1 1/3 to four years if convicted.

U.S. Pledge of Allegiance Under Attack Once Again

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

It would be nice if we didn’t have to go through this every year!!

The disputed suit was filed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation against Congress on behalf of several students in New Hampshire who object to the voluntary recitation of the Pledge in school. Under dispute is whether the phrase “one Nation under God” violates the Constitution.

Drue Ryan with the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) says the lawsuit is “another attempt to remove one of the foundational beliefs that our society … is built on … an acknowledgment of God.”

“As we see in the Declaration of Independence — [which refers to] ‘nature and nature’s God’ — that the founders actually gave credence to the fact that they believed there was something superior to them,” argues Ryan. “And they actually … spelled it out that it was the God of the Bible.”

City Sued for Arresting Pastor on Public Sidewalk

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

I predict that as time goes on, we are only going to see more and more of this type of persecution.

A lawsuit has been filed against the city of Wichita, Kan., and several of its police officers on behalf of a Christian pastor arrested just for being on public property.

The civil-rights suit was filed by the Alliance Defense Fund, an advocacy organization that defends constitutional rights, on behalf of Mark Holick, pastor of Spirit One Christian Center.

Spirit One also has been threatened by the Internal Revenue Service with an audit for posting messages on its marquee dealing with the value of human life, based on dozens of Bible references.

Holick’s arrest happened last summer when a homosexual festival was being held in a public park in Wichita. He went to share his Christian faith on public property, and it took only a little longer than three minutes after his arrival for police officers to arrest him.

The trespassing charges later were dropped, but that doesn’t solve the issue, according to the ADF.

“Exercising your First Amendment rights is not a crime,” said Joel Oster, ADF senior legal counsel. “Arresting Christians simply because they choose to exercise those rights in a public place is unconstitutional.”

Thompson Out

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I really thought that Thompson would fare well in this race. I think his failure proves that you cannot ride the fence or take the backseat and still get elected. Thompson never took a firm stand on anything as far as I can see (except maybe the war – maybe). America is looking for a man who stands up for what he believes in and Thompson didn’t really step up to the plate.

Republican Fred Thompson, the actor-politician who attracted more attention as a potential presidential candidate than as a real one, quit the race for the White House on Tuesday after a string of poor finishes in early primary and caucus states.

“I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort,” Thompson said. “Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people.”

Thompson’s fate was sealed last Saturday in the South Carolina primary, when he finished third in a state that he had said he needed to win.

In the statement, Thompson did not say whether he would endorse any of his former rivals. He was one of a handful of members of Congress who supported Arizona Sen. John McCain in 2000 in his unsuccessful race against George W. Bush for the party nomination.

Thompson, best known as the gruff district attorney on NBC’s “Law & Order,” placed third in Iowa and South Carolina, two states seemingly in line with his right-leaning pitch and laid-back style, and he fared even worse in the four other states that have held contests thus far. Money already tight, he ran out of it altogether as the losses piled up.

An Anniversary to MOURN: Roe v. Wade

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Fifty million babies have been killed since January 22, 1973. Picture that in your mind. We find it hard to believe that terrorists killed around 3,000 of our people on Sept. 11th, yet we say nothing about the fact that we, ourselves, are killing that many babies everyday. These are babies that God created. Sure, there are some who say they got pregnant accidentally, but I assure you, those babies are no accident to God. Each one knit together in his/her mother’s womb by Almighty God – each one with a purpose for his/her life.
All the arguments such as ‘life does not begin at conception’ and ‘it’s a fetus not a baby’ may stand up in court here on earth, but they will not stand in the High Court where Jesus Christ is the judge. On Judgement Day, those who perform the abortions and those who have fought for ‘a woman’s right to choose’ will realize just how wrong they were.
America has made many mistakes as a country in its history, but I believe Roe v. Wade is one of the (if not THE) biggest mistake ever. We will be required to pay for our ‘choice’ and I fear the price will be extremely high – more than we ever imagined. God help us.

Nearly 50 million unborn children have been killed through the abortion process since the notorious Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision on January 22, 1973, according to National Right to Life.

That averages out to more than 3,000 abortions every day since that ominous date – worse than suffering a Sept. 11 death toll daily for 35 years. But these deaths are not the work of ruthless terrorists; they come at the hands of our own medical practitioners.

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the landmark ruling, but do the majority of Americans really support what the court found?

“The pro-abortion mantra is that the public supports Roe,” said Senior Legal Counsel Michael Johnson of the Alliance Defense Fund, a legal group that works to defend religious freedoms. “That presumption is on shaky ground.”

ADF states that even though polls show a slim majority of Americans favor the controversial decision, an overwhelming majority supports some kind of restriction on abortion – an allowance not afforded in Roe v. Wade.

A number of pro-family organizations contend that most Americans are unaware of what the ruling allows.

They argue that the more people know about Roe v. Wade, the less likely they are to support it.

“The abortion industry has waged a decades-long deception campaign to suppress the truth about abortion,” Johnson said. “If Americans knew the truth about Roe, they wouldn’t be as supportive.”

Do You Know Roe?

The Alliance Defense Fund, Focus on the Family, Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America have worked together to produce the “Roe IQ Test,” which was designed to show that most people don’t truly understand Roe v. Wade.

The pro-family groups say that Americans were rudely awakened after taking the survey, when they discovered the true colors of Roe v. Wade.

Bill Clinton Asleep During MLK Memorial Service

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I am sorry to all you Billary fans, but this is just too funny to overlook! You have to go to the original link and see the picture. Is this guy a narcoleptic or what?

Bill Clinton showed yesterday why he made it into the book “The Art of Napping.”

During an appearance at the Convent Avenue Baptist Church in Harlem, the former president was caught nodding off.

Clinton was there during a service to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., while his wife was nearby at Abyssinian Baptist Church, where she was endorsed by its minister, Rev. Calvin Butts.

Clinton has had napping episodes before. Among others, he nodded off at a Mets game and at Ronald Reagan’s funeral.

Russia Delivers 5th Fuel Shipment to Iran

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

The Bible tells us that Russia will play a large role in end time events…..

Russia delivered on Tuesday the fifth fuel shipment to the Bushehr nuclear power plant it is building in southern Iran, the country’s mass media said, citing Iranian nuclear officials.

Russia has so far supplied a total of 55 metric tons of low-enriched uranium to the plant, which has been the focus of international attention over fears Iran is developing nuclear weapons.

The remaining three shipments will be delivered under contract and according to a previously agreed timetable.

Sergei Kiriyenko, the director general of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, earlier said Russia will complete fuel supplies to the Bushehr NPP in late February.

“In February we will complete the supplies, and actual work with the fuel at the plant will start in July-August,” he said.

The first delivery to the plant, being built by Russian contractor Atomstroyexport, came on December 16, 2007 following months of project delays that Moscow attributed to payment arrears, but which Iran blamed on pressure from Western nations.

Under a bilateral intergovernmental contract, Russia is set to deliver a total of 82 metric tons of fuel divided into eight shipments. Deliveries are monitored by the United Nations nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

United States President George W. Bush, who has led international calls for sanctions against

Iran over its refusal to freeze its nuclear program, said last month that he supported the start of Russia’s enriched uranium deliveries to the Islamic Republic, and that Tehran no longer has any excuse to develop its own enrichment capabilities.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov echoed Bush’s comments in late December, saying it would not be economically viable for Iran to continue its uranium enrichment program.

However, Iranian spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali-Hamenei insisted earlier this month that Tehran would continue enriching uranium for future nuclear power plants.

Tehran plans to hold tenders for the construction of 19 new nuclear

“Exactly Who are the Barbarians? Female Genital Mutilation as Pictured in the West” Dr. Phyllis Chesler

Monday, January 21st, 2008

The Grey Lady editors just slipped it right in there—the magazine spread was so big (eight pages, with eight huge color photos), and so unbelievable, that I actually missed it. I am talking about the Sunday New York Times magazine article about female genital mutilation in Indonesia.

Not until Dr. Andrew Bostom called it to my attention, did I stop, look, and let the headline sink in: “A Cutting Tradition.” I probably thought it was a rather long article about a recipe—not for a lifetime of agony, but for another way to cut and prepare a meal. Something Asian, maybe Fusion. The women’s faces were Asian faces.

But, the article is essentially a National Geographic-style photo essay subtitled: “Inside a female circumcision ceremony for young Muslim girls.” The photos are by Stephanie Sinclair, the brief text is by Sara Corbett.

What is a human rights atrocity with life-long and life-threatening consequences is here being presented as a “tradition,” often a harmless one, sometimes not, but always a well-intentioned one.

According to the article, there is “little blood involved”—well, how bad can that be? And, “antiseptic is used”— well, this is not dangerous at all, is it? Finally, afterwards, the child is given a “celebratory gift”—what, am I the kind of westerner who, Grinch-style, would deny the child her gift in order to make my twisted, “racist” argument? As the article states , the child clutching (or drinking) her gift “has now joined a quiet majority in Indonesia.”

These photographs were taken in 2006 on a day where 200 girls were genitally mutilated . In honor of the “prophet Mohammed’s birthday,” the Assalaam Foundation subsidized both the mutilation—and the “gift.” According to the Foundation’s chairman of social services, the cutting/mutilation will “stabilize her libido;” “make a woman look more beautiful in the eyes of her husband’; and “will balance her psychology.”

Ninety six percent of all Indonesian families have sliced their daughters’ clitorises right off.

No orgasms for you, you naughty, wicked hussy of a child.

In the article, an Italian physician who is also a World Health Organization official states: “To judge them (the female mutilators) “harsly is to isolate them. You cannot make change that way. These mothers believe they are doing something good for their children.”

The Indonesian “cutting” is presented as less severe, less “extreme” than African versions. Oh yeah? Then why does one photo show us a child in extraordinary pain. Yes, right there in the New York Times. The caption is: “A girl cries as she is circumcized. ” Well, its like being vaccinated, right? And there is a second photo of a highly anxious child just before the mutilation. This one is captioned: “A girl is soothed by an attendant before her circumcision.”

The photographer has captured a live human rights atrocity in progress and we are seeing it in color with our morning coffee and croissants. Or bagels. Or muffins. Whatever.

Who exactly are the barbarians here? Those who genitally mutilate their daughters or those who deem the atrocity as something of a soft core “tradition” to be “enjoyed” at Sunday brunch?

And why has no one commented upon the fact that it is only women who perform such mutilations? The psychological trauma of undergoing such a painful procedure, (albeit with very different consequences), among both male and female children and adolesecents, is unbelievable. How can a girl ever trust an older woman again? (Actually, she can’t).

I will let Dr. Bostom, who is a physician and the author of the forthcoming book, “The Legacy of Islamic AntiSemitism” (a daunting, compelling, and indispensable book), have the last words. He has written a passionate article titled “Clitoral Relativism-Female Genital Mutilation in ‘Tolerant” Islamic Indonesia. ” Quoting from the British Medical Journal on the subject, he reminds us that:

“Female genital mutilation, also misleadingly known as female circumcision, is usually performed on girls ranging in age from 1 week to puberty. Immediate physical complications include severe pain, shock, infection, bleeding, acute urinary infection, tetanus, and death. Long-term problems include chronic pain, difficulties with micturition [urination] and menstruation, pelvic infection leading to infertility, and prolonged and obstructed labor during childbirth. ”

He notes that FGM is illegal in the United States. He views the above article as “misleading.”

The Origins and Obligations of Sharia Law

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Sharia is the body of Islamic religious law based on the Koran and the words and actions of the prophet Mohammed and his followers.

In the West sharia has become synonymous with the brutal punishments meted out in Islamic states, but the majority of laws are to do with everyday issues, ranging from personal hygiene to banking.

Hardline Muslim leaders claim that sharia is eternal and can never be changed, while moderates argue that it is not a strict set of laws but should be open to interpretation.

Sunni and Shia Muslims follow different schools of thought in interpreting the sharia laws, but all Muslims are required to live according to sharia wherever they are.

Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iran have implemented sharia as the legal system of the country, but in Britain it has no legal standing, despite the introduction of sharia-compliant banking and food.

In sharia courts, or councils, once an imam has reached a decision, he will issue fatwas, or rulings, on issues such as inheritance and divorce.

Divorce law is particularly complicated – a man can end his marriage by uttering the word talaq. He can take his wife back after a three-month break (iddat) but the third time he uses the word the divorce is final.

The prophet Mohammed has said what could be translated as: “The women who seek divorce (khula) without good reason are hypocrites.”

Some parts of sharia law are obligatory, while others are recommended or optional

Examples of obligatory laws

• Earnings must be lawfully obtained

• Food must be halal

• Personal hygiene must be of a very high standard

• Couples must have a full bath in flowing water after intercourse

• The body must be covered modestly

• Prayers must be said five times a day

• Believers must fast during Ramadan

Strongly recommended laws

• Hands should be washed upon waking up (because one does not know where the hands have been during sleep)

• Believers should wash with water after going to the toilet

• Eating should be done while seated

• The right hand should be used for eating and the left for cleaning oneself

• People should lie down on the right side when going to sleep

• The right shoe should be put on first, followed by the left

• The mouth and nose should be covered when yawning or sneezing

• Food should not be eaten when very hot but left until it has cooled a little
