Pali Terrorist Attack Teen Students at Israeli School, Kill at Least Ten

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Once again, true to form, the cowardly Pali terrorist attack and kill innocent Israeli civilians, this time attacking a Torah school (a yeshiva) filled with high school aged students. At least ten are dead and many more wounded.
Unconfirmed reports are coming in, from around the blogsphere, that the Pali’s are dancing in the streets and handing out candy.
Yeah, these people really deserve their own country. NOT!!

At least seven people were killed and seven others were wounded Thursday evening when terrorists infiltrated the Merkaz Harav yeshiva in the Kiryat Moshe neighborhood in Jerusalem, a senior police official said.

Three of the injured were listed as being in very serious condition and taken to Hadassah Medical Center in Ein Karem, while the other four were taken to Sha’arei Tzedek Medical Center in the capital. MDA declared the incident a “multiple casualty event.”

At least two terrorists infiltrated the yeshiva, possibly armed with explosive belts, and began firing in every direction. Most of the students are high school age.

A large number of security and emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene, with some 20-30 ambulances summoned.

Police and Israel Defense Forces troops were searching the complex in order to determine whether one of the terrorists was still holed up inside the yeshiva, and were also going house to house in the immediate area in search of third terrorist who may have fled.

Police are having a difficult time keeping crowds of onlookers away from the scene, despite concerns there are still explosive belts at the scene that have yet to be neutralized.

Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski told Channel 2 television, “It’s very sad tonight in Jerusalem – many people were killed in the heart of Jerusalem.”

“There was a lot of gunfire and hysteria,” a woman who lives across the street from the school told the radio. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

UMC Leaders Accused of Harboring ‘Longstanding Bias’ Against Israel

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

The Bibles tells us that God will “bless” those who support Israel and “curse” those who do not.

An official with the Institute on Religion and Democracy says it’s not surprising that top officials in the United Methodist Church are calling for a denominational boycott of firms who do business with Israel.

Recently, officials from the United Methodist Church’s (UMC) Washington lobby office asked leading General Conference delegates to support church divestment from Caterpillar, Inc. — because they sold products to Israel. But UMC officials claimed the proposed divestment was neither anti-Semitic nor anti-Israel.

Mark Tooley with The Institute on Religion and Democracy says many liberal church leaders have a compromised view of the authority of scripture. “It perhaps is not a coincidence that they tend to be very critical and biased against Israel,” Tooley says of the UMC officials. “Because in many ways, spiritually, I think the continued existence of Israel is — for those who are theologically liberal — a very unpleasant reminder of God’s continued activity in the world today.”

Homeschooling May Be Declared Illegal in California

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Just when I think that California can’t do anything more to liberalize their education system, they go and do something more to liberalize their education system. This time they have the courts doing their dirty work for them.
Let me explain…
Last year, the California legislature voted on Bill SB 777 that would impose rules on the education system that no one could say anything disparaging against homosexuals or other sexually “confused” people. This, of course, was a blatant act of censorship against Christians and others who find the homosexual lifestyle to be deplorable and wish to instruct children that it’s not a good or normal thing. Surprisingly, the governor signed it into law. See our post here for details.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, California lawmakers are also attempting to make rules allowing the education system to indoctrinate children that Communism and the overthrow of the U.S. government is OK. No seriously, they want to do this. Read about it here.
With so many things going bad in the education system, many parents were considering removing their kids from public education and either putting them in private schools or home schooling them.
Well, in steps the courts. They have now ruled that homeschooling is not a valid option for parents. Only “certified” teachers can teach kids. In other words, public education will be the only education option open to parents who cannot afford private education.
This issue is on it’s way to the California Supreme Court. Let us hope that they rule that parents can continue to home school. I’m not optimistic though.

A “breathtaking” ruling from a California appeals court that could subject the parents of 166,000 students in the state to criminal sanctions will be taken to the state Supreme Court.

The announcement comes today from the Pacific Justice Institute, whose president, Brad Dacus, described the impact of the decision as “stunning.”

“The scope of this decision by the appellate court is breathtaking,” he said. “It not only attacks traditional homeschooling, but also calls into question homeschooling through charter schools and teaching children at home via independent study through public and private school.”

“If not reversed, the parents of the more than 166,000 students currently receiving an education at home will be subject to criminal sanctions,” he said.

WND broke the story of the ruling that came in a case involving the family of Phillip and Mary Long of Los Angeles.

The decision from the 2nd Appellate Court in Los Angeles granted a special petition brought by lawyers appointed to represent the two youngest children after the family’s homeschooling was brought to the attention of child advocates. The lawyers appointed by the state were unhappy with a lower court’s ruling that allowed the family to continue homeschooling, and specifically challenged that on appeal.

Justice H. Walt Croskey, whose opinion was joined by two other judges, then ordered: “Parents who fail to [comply with school enrollment laws] may be subject to a criminal complaint against them, found guilty of an infraction, and subject to imposition of fines or an order to complete a parent education and counseling program.”

The determination reversed a decision from Superior Court Judge Stephen Marpet, who ruled “parents have a constitutional right to school their children in their own home.”

As WND has reported, the Longs had their children enrolled in Sunland Christian School, a private homeschooling program.

But Croskey, without hearing arguments from the school, opined that the situation was one of a “ruse of enrolling [children] in a private school and then letting them stay home and be taught by a non-credentialed parent.”

Officials with the school said they asked Pacific Justice to work on the Supreme Court appeal because the organization “has been in full compliance with the requirements of the law for more than 23 years.”

“We’ve never been given an opportunity to represent our case in the Court of Appeal,” Terry Neven, the president of the school, said. “Consequently, we are excited that PJI will represent us before the California Supreme Court so that the rights of homeschooling families are preserved.”

The ruling, on which WND reported earlier, also issued a further warning of potential penalties for parents, this time in civil court.

It said under a section titled “Consequences of Parental Denial of a Legal Education,” that “parents are subject to being ordered to enroll their children in an appropriate school or education program and provide proof of enrollment to the court, and willful failure to comply with such an order may be punished by a fine for civil contempt.”

The school’s website notes it offers a homeschool/independent study program that is accredited. It began in Los Angeles in 1986 with 24 students and now serves more than 3,000 families.

“While SCS is a Christian program, we enroll any family desiring assistance in teaching their own children at home. All we ask is that each family respect our values,” the school said.

“The future of homeschooling (both public and private) in California requires the reversal of this decision,” Neven said.

WND also has reported on concerns expressed by Roy Hanson, chief of the Private and Home Educators of California, about the way the ruling was issued.

“Normally in a dependency court action, they simply make a ruling that will affect that family. It accomplishes the same thing, meaning they would force [the family] to place their minor children into school,” he said.

Such rulings on a variety of issues always are “done in the best interests of the child” and are not unusual, he said.

But in this case, the court said went much further, essentially concluding that the state provided no circumstance that allowed parents to school their own children at home.

Specifically, the appeals court affirmed, the trial court had found that “keeping the children at home deprived them of situations where (1) they could interact with people outside the family, (2) there are people who could provide help if something is amiss in the children’s lives, and (3) they could develop emotionally in a broader world than the parents’ ‘cloistered’ setting.”

Further, the appeals ruling said, California law requires “persons between the ages of six and 18” to be in school, “the public full-time day school,” with exemptions allowed only for those in a “private full-time day school” or those “instructed by a tutor who holds a valid state teaching credential for the grade being taught.”

For homeschoolers in California, Hanson said, “there may be everywhere from concern to panic, just based on not knowing what the [ultimate] results will be.”

United Methodist Church Leaders Accused of Bias Against Israel

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

‘The Bible commands us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), to speak out for Zion’s sake (Isaiah 62:1), to be watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem (Isaiah 62:6) and to bless the Jewish people (Genesis 12:3). How can the UMC claim to be followers of Christ and not support Israel? We know God loves Israel, they are His chosen, so how can the UMC not love them too?

An official with the Institute on Religion and Democracy says it’s not surprising that top officials in the United Methodist Church are calling for a denominational boycott of firms who do business with Israel.

Recently, officials from the United Methodist Church’s (UMC) Washington lobby office asked leading General Conference delegates to support church divestment from Caterpillar, Inc. — because they sold products to Israel. Tooley claims there has been a longstanding bias against Israel among UMC leaders, as well as among mainline Protestantism for the past 30-to-35 years as well.

The UMC General Conference takes place in April in Fort Worth, Texas. Delegates meet every four years to draft policy for the denomination.

Violence Escalates for Christians in Iraq

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

We see violence in Iraq on the news everyday. Violence is the Muslim way, regardless of the misnomer that Islam is the ‘religion of peace’. It’s easy to forget that there are Christians in Iraq. We need to be in prayer for those in Iraq who are in danger of being killed because they claim the name of Jesus Christ.

John Eibner, who heads a worldwide Christian human rights group, says although the U.S.-led military surge is reducing violence overall in Iraq, the situation for Christians is still tense and dangerous.

A Catholic archbishop was recently kidnapped in eastern Mosul, and his two bodyguards — who were both Christian — were shot and killed. This is the latest in a long line of violent acts targeting Christians throughout Iraq. Since the fall of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, more than 400,000 Christians have been forced to flee the country.

Dr. John Eibner, CEO of Christian Solidarity International, encourages believers in the U.S. to call on the government to ensure that Christians in Iraq are protected. “We have a special responsibility because we are in a position to make a difference,” says Eibner. “It’s now or never, and we have to pull out all stops if we’re going to fulfill our obligations as members of the body of Christ, to help the other parts of the body that are suffering.”

Christians are not simply caught in the middle of the crossfire, notes Eibner, but are actually targeted for death, and are also discriminated against on a regular basis. He says some Christians even receive letters that demand they convert to Islam or face death.

Eibner believes as long as U.S.-led forces are still in the country, it is the responsibility of the United States to ensure that Christians and other religious minorities are safe.

166,000 Homeschooling Parents Could Face Charges

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Doesn’t our governemnt have anything better to do than harass parents who choose to educate their kids at home? I do not homeschool – the majority of people do not homeschool, but we need to fight for the right to do so if we ever feel the need.

A “breathtaking” ruling from a California appeals court that could subject the parents of 166,000 students in the state to criminal sanctions will be taken to the state Supreme Court.

The Roman Road to Salvation

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Periodically I like to post the “Roman Road to Salvation”. What is this road I speak of, you might ask?
Well, when the Apostle Paul wrote his letter to the Christian church in Rome, he laid out a path or a “road” that will lead to salvation for those who do not know Jesus.
Check this out…

The ROMANS ROAD….is a pathway you can walk.
It is a group of Bible verses from the book of Romans in the New Testament. If you “walk” down this road you will end up understanding how to be saved.

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
We all have sin in our hearts. We all were born with sin. We were born under the power of sin’s control.
– Admit that you are a sinner.

Romans 6:23a “…The wages of sin is death…”
Sin has an ending. It results in death. We all face physical death, which is a result of sin. But a worse death is spiritual death that alienates us from God, and will last for all eternity. The Bible teaches that there is a place called the Lake of Fire where lost people will be in torment forever. It is the place where people who are spiritually dead will remain.
– Understand that you deserve death for your sin.

Romans 6:23b “…But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Salvation is a free gift from God to you! You can’t earn this gift, but you must reach out and receive it.
-Ask God to forgive you and save you.

Romans 5:8, “God demonstrates His own love for us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us!”
When Jesus died on the cross He paid sin’s penalty. He paid the price for all sin, and when He took all the sins of the world on Himself on the cross, He bought us out of slavery to sin and death! The only condition is that we believe in Him and what He has done for us, understanding that we are now joined with Him, and that He is our life. He did all this because He loved us and gave Himself for us!
-Give your life to God… His love poured out in Jesus on the cross is your only hope to have forgiveness and change. His love bought you out of being a slave to sin. His love is what saves you — not religion, or church membership. God loves you!

Romans 10:13 “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved!”
-Call out to God in the name of Jesus!

Romans 10:9,10 “…If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”
-If you know that God is knocking on your heart’s door, ask Him to come into your heart.

Jesus said, Revelation 3:20a “Behold I stand at the door and knock, if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him…”
-Is Jesus knocking on your heart’s door?

Believe in Him. Ask Him to come in to your heart by faith, and ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Open the Bible to the Gospel of John and read what God says about Jesus, about you, and about being born again.

God will help you. He loves you.

You need to look for a local church where God’s word is preached. The Bible says that we are to desire God’s word like a newborn baby desires mother’s milk. Aren’t you hungry to know the truth?

Water baptism is one of the ways you first show that you have been joined to Jesus. This is an action, and actions will not save you. However, it is an act of obedience and a symbol of commitment. The symbolism is this: When you go down in the water you show that You have been crucified and buried with Him,

And when you come up out of the water you show that you have been raised to walk with Him in newness of life. (See Romans chapter 6)

You have been born again. (See John chapter 3)

Your body has become God’s temple. Your heart is where He lives.

Forgiveness is yours in Jesus. And you belong to Him.

You were sin’s slave. But now…

You are a child of GOD!

John 1:12 “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name!”
