Hamas Says It’s Reached Cease-Fire with Israel

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

“Hamas says it’s reached cease-fire with Israel”…except for rocket attacks, homicide bombers and sniper fire, I’m sure. Wonder how many hours this one will hold before the Pali terrorist break it.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Gaza’s Hamas rulers on Tuesday said they have reached a long-awaited cease-fire with Israel meant to end months of Palestinian assaults on Israeli border towns and bruising Israeli retaliation.

The announcement came shortly after Egypt, which has been trying to broker the truce for months, said the cease-fire would go into effect on Thursday. Israel refused to confirm a deal, but said a “new reality” would take hold if Palestinian attacks end.

In a last-minute jolt, Israeli aircraft attacked three targets in the southern Gaza Strip. One of the airstrikes destroyed a car, killing six militants inside.

A large crowd gathered around the car’s smoldering remains, and a puddle of blood was visible on the asphalt. Gaza militants then fired four mortar shells at Israel, the first of the day, the military said. No one was hurt.

Hamas officials accused Israel of trying to undermine the truce, but said they would not let the violence derail the Egyptian efforts.

“We are going to commit ourselves to the start time that Egypt is going to declare regarding the calm,” said Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri. However, the group’s television station said the movement would respond to “any Zionist aggression,” underscoring the delicate situation.

Egypt’s powerful intelligence chief, Omar Suleiman, has been meeting separately with Israeli and Hamas officials for months in hopes of brokering a truce.

Israel has been seeking a halt to rocket attacks launched from Gaza nearly every day, an end to Hamas’ weapons buildup, and the release of an Israeli soldier held by Hamas for two years.

Hamas, meanwhile, wants an end to Israel’s military activity in Gaza and the lifting of an Israeli blockade that has caused widespread destitution in the already impoverished coastal strip.

Groundswell of Opposition Against Surrendering Golan Heights

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

( The number of Israelis who oppose surrendering the Golan Heights to Syria is growing, according to a new Teleseker poll published in the Hebrew-language newspaper Ma’ariv on Tuesday.

Some 85 percent of the Israeli public is opposed to ceding the Golan Heights to Syria, according to the poll.

Barely half of those living in the strategic area said they would leave their homes voluntarily if the government agreed to turn the Golan over to Syria.

Only 56 percent of respondents living in the Golan Heights agreed they would leave in return for money or equivalent property in the Galilee or Negev.

The statistics did not change significantly even when residents were offered double compensation in exchange for leaving their homes in the Golan Heights.

Criminal Crackdown Targeting Christians

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

When a Christian pastor in Canada wrote a commentary on the Bible’s perspective on homosexuality, a government commission ordered him to renounce his faith and apologize. When a family owned photography studio in New Mexico refused, on religious grounds, to take pictures at a same-sex ceremony, the fine for such “discrimination” was $6,600. Now the experts say Colorado is joining in the repression of the practice of Christianity.

“Getting beyond the bathroom and locker room issue, the biggest danger this law poses is to the religious or moral consciences of small business owners who may object to doing business with people whose lifestyle they do not want to promote,” Bruce Hausknecht, a spokesman with Focus on the Family, told WND about Colorado’s new law, SB200.

WND reported earlier when the chief of Focus on the Family, James Dobson, criticized Gov. Bill Ritter for signing the law because of its dangerous implications for anyone who provides a “public accommodation” because they no longer will be able to discriminate based on sexual orientation or even “perception.”

“Who would have believed that the Colorado state legislature and its governor would have made it fully legal for men to enter and use women’s restrooms and locker-room facilities without notice or explanation?” Dobson said at the time.

“Henceforth, every woman and little girl will have to fear that a predator, bisexual, cross-dresser or even a homosexual or heterosexual male might walk in and relieve himself in their presence,” Dobson said.

Conservatives Happier Than Liberals

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

A New York Times best-selling author claims his new book debunks the liberal stereotyping that conservatives are angry, uneducated, and narrow-minded.

In his book Makers and Takers, Peter Schweizer says the evidence that conservatives are actually happier than liberals is quite clear. “Conservatives are happier. They’re more productive. They’re more generous with their money. They have closer families,” he explains. “Essentially I contend that conservative ideas are good for you, and modern liberal ideas often bring out the worse in us.”

Schweizer says he chose the title of the book to illustrate a major difference between conservatives and liberals. “… [C]onservatives are the ones who are making and producing in our country, and liberalism creates a mindset of taking or a sense of entitlement,” he elucidates.

ACLU to Attack Values in Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

My friend, Jen Rast, once coined the ACLU (The American Civil Liberties Union) as the “Anti-Christian Litigation Union” for their almost constant attacks against Christian values.
The ACLU has decided to raise funds to spearhead increased operations in Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas, traditionally conservative states.
Pray that God will put a stop to their attempts to make the United States a godless country.

The ACLU has announced a major fundraising drive to expand its operations in traditionally conservative states — and the head of a conservative law firm in one of those states responds: Bring it on!

The American Civil Liberties Union is has already raised $258 million through what the Associated Press calls “behind the scenes” solicitations, including $12 million from liberal billionaire political activist George Soros. The liberal legal group wants to expand operations in Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, and other traditionally conservative states.

“We certainly will be waiting for them,” [Kelly Shackelford, chief counsel of the Liberty Legal Institute in Plano, Texas] announces. “We just cleaned their clock in a case over the Bible in Texas, and if they think they’re coming to receptive ground in Texas — I think they’ll be slightly surprised.”
