Israel ‘ready to act’ over Iran

Friday, July 11th, 2008

This situation could get ugly really quickly.

Israel’s defence minister has warned of his country’s readiness to act against Iran if it feels threatened.

Ehud Barak, speaking in Tel Aviv, said Israel had “proved in the past that it won’t hesitate to act when its vital security interests are at stake”.

He spoke as Iran’s testing of missiles that could reach Israel stoked tensions between the two, and with the US.

But Mr Barak added that diplomatic solutions should be pursued before other options were taken up.

“Currently the focus is international sanctions and vigorous diplomatic activity, and these avenues should be exhausted,” he said.

McDonald’s: Christian Boycotters ‘Hate’ Homosexuals

Friday, July 11th, 2008

No we don’t. We just feel we should be able to spend our money at businesses that don’t actively support the homosexual lifestyle. We many of will do exactly that.

Those who oppose homosexuality for religious reasons are participating in “hate,” according to an official for McDonald’s, the worldwide purveyor of Big Macs and Happy Meals.

“Hatred has no place in our culture,” corporate spokesman Bill Whitman told the Washington Post in response to a campaign by the American Family Association for a boycott of the burger-and-fries outlets because of the corporation’s advocacy for the homosexual lifestyle.

“That includes McDonald’s, and we stand by and support our people to live and work in a society free of discrimination and harassment,” Whitman said.

“Throwing out any pretense of being neutral in the culture war, McDonald’s has taken up the rhetoric of gay activists, suggesting those who oppose same-sex marriage (SSM) are motivated by hate,” the AFA said in a new alert about its campaign today.

“AFA has asked for a boycott of McDonald’s restaurants because of the company’s promotion of the gay agenda. AFA asked McDonald’s to remain neutral in the culture war. McDonald’s refused,” the group said.

“McDonald’s has decided to adopt the ‘hate’ theme used by gay activist groups for years,” said the AFA alert.

“Mr. Whitman has intentionally avoided addressing the reason for the boycott. This boycott is not about hiring gays or how gay employees are treated. It is about McDonald’s choosing to put the full weight of their corporation behind promoting their agenda,” the AFA alert said.

McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner said the company will promote issues they approve, the AFA said.

“Being a socially responsible organization is a fundamental part of who we are. We have an obligation to use our size and resources to make a difference in the world … and we do,” Skinner was quoted as saying.

The American Family Association’s earlier boycott of Ford Motor Co. over its promotion of homosexuality was dropped after company sales fell 8 percent per month for two years.

AFA said McDonald’s donated $20,000 to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in exchange for membership in the NGLCC and a seat on the group’s board of directors. The NGLCC lobbies Congress on a wide range of issues, including the promotion of same-sex marriage.

Court Agrees Pro-Life Protesters Also Have Freedom of Speech

Friday, July 11th, 2008

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that pro-life protesters can’t be removed from a public street adjacent to a public school just because school officials find their message offensive.

The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform admits that even many pro-life individuals consider its “Reproductive ‘Choice’ Campaign” offensive. CBR drives large trucks, displaying images of aborted babies, through cities and towns to show the public what the pro-abortion euphemism “choice” really represents. Mark Harrington is the Center’s Midwest executive director.

In 2003, CBR’s trucks were ordered off a public street adjacent to Dodson Middle School in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, by deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office. But the usually liberal Ninth Circuit ruled earlier this month that in doing so, the deputies violated CBR’s First Amendment rights.

Obama: Don’t Worry About Teaching English to Immigrants, Teach U.S. Kids Spanish Instead

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Yet another reason on an ever growing list of reasons not to elect Obama as president.
In case it has escaped everyone’s notice, this is the United States of American. The language of this nation is American English.

An English language advocate is absolutely appalled by a recent statement from Barack Obama that Americans should stop worrying about teaching English to immigrants, but instead make sure that American children learn Spanish.

Senator Obama (D-Illinois) made the statement during a campaign stop in Powder Springs, Georgia. The Democratic presidential candidate continued to say that it is embarrassing that when Europeans come to the United States they all speak English as well as other languages, but when Americans go to Europe all they can manage to say is “Merci Beacoup.”

While Obama criticized Americans for not speaking other languages in foreign countries, he did not seem to have a problem with foreign nationals who do not speak English in the United States. “Instead of worrying about whether immigrants can learn English, they’ll learn English — you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish,” he said.

“Michelle Obama’s Insult to Stay-at-Home Moms” by Charlie Richards

Friday, July 11th, 2008

A few months ago, my kids were having trouble with a particular neighborhood girl—a feisty little brunette with a short temper. Eventually, things got out of hand and it became clear I needed to get involved.

I approached the girl and her mother. As I addressed the daughter, she walked away without a word. Her embarrassed mother called after her as well. She, too, was ignored. “Get over here right now!” her mother shouted to no avail.

My wife had a hunch—and she turned out to be right: This girl’s mother works outside the home. With four children of our own, we see kids of all ages on a regular basis and it’s remarkable how easy it is to identify the struggles of children who attend daycare. I’m not without compassion. I realize that for many today, there is no choice. Yet for another segment, daycare is a very deliberate choice.

So I was disappointed to read the words of Michelle Obama as she bragged that her kids have “always known two parents to work in the household. And as long as we’re back in time for bedtime, they could care less where we are.”

Michelle and Barack’s girls are 7 and 9, the same age as my older children. Anybody with youngsters that age knows you can’t just show up at bedtime and put a satisfactory cap on a child’s day. It’s a time in a child’s life when mom and dad are everything. At 7 and 9, the kids still believe mom and dad know more than they do. They can think logically and communicate feelings. It’s a wonderful and key season when you can discuss life and see the effects of modeling good behavior and work ethic. Kids that age long for time with mom and dad. Quality and quantity matters. As a friend said recently, “You get once around this track—and that’s it.”

So who’s mentoring Obama’s children?

I read those words from Michelle and marveled at the fact that they were slapped onto the back end of several stories. Mainstream media today is so far left and so out of touch that they don’t know a significant story when they see one.

I also had to wonder: Does Michelle really believe her young children don’t care if they see her until bedtime? Does she sincerely believe her kids are just as happy with a nanny and a Secret Service agent as they are with mom and dad?

In the aforementioned speech, Michelle Obama was addressing the National Partnership for Women and Families, a left-wing group whose chairman of the board is Ellen Malcolm, a pro-abortion radical who helped form EMILY’s List—a group obsessed with getting pro-abortion Democratic women elected to office. Michelle wanted the National Partnership to know she was one of them—a mother who worked.

“I have always been, and probably will always be in one way, shape or form, a working mom,” she told them in her seven-minute speech.

Many mothers who work don’t have a choice—especially single mothers. They struggle to make ends meet and cherish every moment they have with their children. But Michelle, a millionaire, obviously does have a choice. And she has chosen work. And now she’s bragging about it.

Her comments were nothing less than a slap in the face to the millions of mothers who choose to stay at home—mothers who have put their children above their own ambition, mothers who know they are the best people to raise their children.

Stay-at-home moms sacrifice finances, a bigger house, a ski vacation, a red convertible and instead opt for a 10-year-old minivan so they can shuttle their children to and from school and baseball. They’ve traded in their slick business attire for jeans and a t-shirt, better suited to pick up a child that has a runny nose and dirty shoes.

And for this, Michele Obama, potential first lady, makes it clear she’s not one of them. She’s above them, by golly—a six-figure attorney who has left the raising of her children to the little people.
