California’s AG Hears from Marriage Supporters

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

[] has been protesting daily at various local McDonald’s in California in support of the pro-family boycott against the chain. But Luke Otterstad says he and fellow protestors were just several of many outraged Christians and California citizens who had learned just the day before that Attorney General Jerry Brown was primarily responsible for “hijacking the wording” of the title and summary of the Proposition 8 marriage initiative on election ballots in November.

“We’re outraged that the attorney general would change the existing title and summary…to give it a very biased title and summary that will definitely harm Proposition 8 because of how it’s worded,” says Otterstad.

The ballot title originally approved for Prop. 8 described the proposal as an amendment “to provide that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.” But Brown changed the title to describe the proposal as amending the state constitution to “eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry.” The description also claims, with no supporting evidence, that the state will lose “several tens of millions of dollars” if the measure is passed.

Underage Strip Performance Deemed ‘Artistic’

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

It’s sad to see just how depraved our country has become…

Strip clubs are illegal in the state of Iowa. But numerous such establishments operate under a loophole that allows nudity in theaters, museums and other venues featuring works of art, dance and theatrical performances.

Fremont County Judge Timothy O’Grady recently stated that law enforcement officials did not meet the burden of proof that the “Shotgun Geniez” strip club was not qualified for the exemption. Pat Trueman, special counsel to the Alliance Defense Fund and former chief federal obscenity prosecutor for the Justice Department, says the Supreme Court has unfortunately ruled strip clubs are legal in some circumstances.

Prosecutors only filed charges after learning that a 17-year-old girl, who had entered the club illegally, was allowed to strip for patrons. But the club’s owners claimed the “artistic nudity” loophole protected them and that they were not responsible for the actions of the child.

The Media Loves Obama, Do You?

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

The fact that you are reading this blog shows that you are already well ahead of the average person.
Not because this blog contains any earth shattering information that isn’t available elsewhere, but because it shows that you are going outside of the mainstream media to get your information.
If you are reading this blog, then it’s most likely that you are reading many other sources of information as well.
This makes you “above average” as opposed to the typical American who gets his/her news from the mainstream media.

The mainstream media’s “love affair” with Obama has become so pronounced that even some within the mainstream media have started to notice. Even David Letterman is getting in on it. Check out this article:

For each of the weeks between June 9 and July 13, Obama had a much more significant media presence. The Project for Excellence in Journalism evaluates more than 300 political stories each week in newspapers, magazines and television to measure whether each candidate is talked about in more than 25 percent of the stories.

Every week, Obama played an important role in more than two-thirds of the stories. For July 7-13, for example, Obama was a significant presence in 77 percent of the stories, while McCain was in 48 percent, the PEJ said.

Sure, there are some weeks Obama’s going to make more news, said Tom Rosenstiel, the project’s director.

But every week?

“No matter how understandable it is given the newness of the candidate and the historical nature of Obama’s candidacy, in the end it’s probably not fair to McCain,” he said.

The Democrat has proven an attractive commodity; TV debates involving Democrats this campaign consistently drew more viewers than the Republicans. A Time magazine cover with Obama in 2006 was the second-best-selling of the year, and a Men’s Vogue cover outsold every issue but the debut, according to circulation figures reported by Newsweek has done six covers with Obama over the past year, two with McCain. A Rolling Stone cover with Obama stopped just short of adding a halo.

Obama’s Energy Plan

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

As the tropical storm approached our area on Monday, I decided to listen to the local news station on the way home from work. As I waited for the weather update, I caught the last 20 minutes or so of the Sean Hannity radio show.
Sean had a sound bite of Obama giving his thoughts about how to get the country out of our current energy crisis. Somehow he believes that if all of us keep our tires properly inflated and our cars tuned up, we will save enough gas that we won’t need drill for domestic oil.
Can you believe that? This is what he said:

“There are things that you can do individually though to save energy. Making sure your tires are properly inflated, simple thing, but we could save all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling, if everybody was just inflating their tires and getting regular tune-ups. You could actually save just as much.”

Obama Energy Plan

You have got to kidding me!!

Jim Geraghty at NRO had this to say:

Seemingly every Republican is walking around today with a tire gauge labeled “Obama’s Energy Plan.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, holding up the tire gauge as a prop:

Now, that’s an interesting thing – – we want you to have good pressure in your tires, you know, it will very mildly add to your fuel efficiency — but checking the air pressure in your tires is not an energy policy for the United States of America.”

Liberal bloggers say they don’t understand:

[Obama] apparently said the amount of energy to be saved by routine auto maintenance is comparable to the savings we’d get from the GOP’s coastal drilling policy. I have no idea if that’s true — it may very well not be — and I’ll be happy to let energy policy experts weigh in on whether Obama exaggerated the significance of scheduled car care. If he did, Obama should obviously drop this line from his speeches.

I hope McCain and his surrogates remember the key point in this — not that checking your tire pressure has a marginal impact and that two-thirds of drivers already have the right tire pressure, but that Obama said it would generate as much as offshore drilling — roughly 1.6 trillion gallons in the OCS. We went over the math this Wednesday, and Obama’s just not right (and that’s with me using an extremely generous assessment that tire inflation would increase mileage 12.5 percent for one-third of America’s drivers). It’s not merely that Obama’s energy policy consists of recommending the minute and mundane, but that he does so while rejecting solutions that could have a dramatic impact on energy production, oil production, and gas prices. He’s either not familiar enough with the issue, or way too careless in asserting the benefits of his policies. That’s the message voters need to come away with, not just, “Ha, ha! Look, a tire gauge!”
