Dems in Congress Vacation While Oil Prices Drive Up Food Costs

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

WASHINGTON – Gas prices might actually be dropping at the pump, but higher energy prices are pushing food costs through the roof, according to the Siena Research Institute.

That’s one more reason to keep Washington’s feet to the fire on repealing oil-drilling bans, says WND Editor Joseph Farah, who stepped outside his comfort zone as a journalist and launched an unprecedented campaign to get Congress to act before adjournment at the end of September.

Both houses took a recess last week for the month of August, but Republican members of the House of Representatives stayed on the floor to protest inaction on drilling by Democratic leaders.

According to the Siena report, concerns by New Yorkers about grocery bills rose 9 percent from June, with 81 percent saying they feel the effects of higher costs. More than 60 percent of state residents expect food prices to increase over the next six months, while only 8 percent anticipate a decrease.

“Make no mistake about it,” says Farah, “this is still a petroleum-based economy and rising prices for every other commodity are directly tied to skyrocketing energy costs. You need to let your representatives and senators know they can run but they can’t hide. Oil prices come down as a direct result of greater supplies. It’s time for America to start drilling again. You need to let them know.”

Farah’s campaign was energized last week when Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said in a campaign speech America could save as much oil by properly inflating its tires than it could from increased production.

“There are things you can do individually, though, to save energy,” Obama said. “Making sure your tires are properly inflated – simple thing. But we could save all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling – if everybody was just inflating their tires? And getting regular tune-ups? You’d actually save just as much!”

Oil has doubled in price over the past year, triggering inflation and pinching U.S. consumers who are dealing with a depressed housing market, job uncertainty and soaring food costs.

Farah is calling on Americans to flood Congress with e-mails, phone calls, letters and text messages demanding action that can lead the country in the direction of energy independence. Those communications can be directed to home district offices during the recess.

Farah’s plan is simple: “I want to bring Congress to its knees,” he says. “I want to melt down their phones. I want to flood their e-mail boxes. I want to hold them as political hostages. The ransom demand is to unleash the free market to begin exploring and pumping domestic crude oil and getting it to market as fast as possible. We’ve got two months days to make our voices heard. Let’s make history by bringing this recalcitrant body of elitists into compliance with the will of the people and the rule of law.”

Farah says it’s a national emergency and needs to be treated as such.

Farah says he is convinced Congress will act only if the people steamroll members into action. He points to the way the Dubai port deal and amnesty for illegal aliens disguised as so-called “comprehensive immigration reform” were killed by popular uprisings in recent years.

“We can make this happen, again,” he says. “But this time, we won’t just be stopping something bad from happening. We will be doing something that is very good for the country – something that will improve the lives of all of us, something that will improve national security, something vital for the future of the nation.”

San Francisco Fest Features Public Sex With No Arrests

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Nude men engaged in multiple instances of public sex on a municipal street while police officers, on foot and bicycle, congregated nearby making no attempt to enforce public indecency regulations, according to a report on the latest homosexual-fest in San Francisco.

The behavior was documented in photographs of an event called “Up Your Alley,” which is sponsored by the same group that organizes the city’s fall “gay”-fest, the Folsom Street Fair, on which WND has reported.

“Consider how liberal government authorities like Mayor [Gavin] Newsom have corrupted the men in blue by stipulating that police not prosecute public nudity and indecency at homosexual festivals,” said a report from Americans for Truth on the graphic activities documented at the event.

“What honor can there be in protecting the public practice of heinous perversions and nudity in the city’s streets? The shame of pandering politicians is transferred to the cops who were intended to be guardians of the law and public order,” said the organizer’s chief, Peter LaBarbera.

His organization is one of the few in the country to call officials from San Francisco on the issue of the obscene behavior, including public acts of sex, documented during the festival in late July.

Americans for Truth previously worked to raise the nation’s awareness of the Folsom Street Fair, which last fall broke into the headlines with its promotional image mocking the Last Supper scene of Jesus Christ and his disciples, replacing the biblical leaders with leather-adorned men and the bread and wine with sex toys.

LaBarbera, who had to edit photos to conceal full nudity in images from the public street festival before he could post them as part of his report, said there were exhibitionists who “walked around baring their genitals, with no fear of being arrested.” Other websites, to which WND is unable to link because of their graphic content, published fully explicit photographs of various public acts of sex and nudity. They featured explicit photographs of oral and anal sex between men and men urinating on each other, among other activities.

The Americans for Truth report follows the July 27 event, “one of the city’s two open-air celebrations of sadomasochism (euphemistically called the ‘leather’ lifestyle by practitioners),” AFT said. “It is telling to us that the same city whose mayor, Gavin Newsom (D), ignited the ‘same-sex marriage’ crusade in California by illegally issuing ‘gay marriage’ licenses – openly tolerates and celebrates gross perversions, nudity and sexual lawlessness on its streets.”

Saudis to Christians: Get out!

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

More than a dozen Christians in Saudi Arabia who were accused by government officials of worshipping in their homes have been ordered deported.

According to a report from International Christian Concern, the Christians will be expelled tomorrow for their part in a home worship service in Taif in April.

The deportation conflicts with the message stated just weeks earlier by Saudi King Abdullah, who called for interfaith dialogue and held a summit in Spain with a representatives from several major religions.

“Deporting Christians for worshipping in their private homes shows that King Abdullah’s speech is mere rhetoric and his country is deceiving the international community about their desire for change and reconciliation,” said Jeff King, the president of ICC.

Pro-life Demonstrators Arrested in Maryland

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Pro-life demonstrators recently ran into problems in Maryland. At first, they were challenged by state troopers. Operation Rescue spokesman Troy Newman says the pro-lifers moved a distance away to Bel Air but “eighteen young people and older people alike were arrested on a street corner just for holding these graphic pictures of aborted babies.”

Newman believes officers would do well to read the U.S. Constitution and become educated on Supreme Court decisions.

“These Christians were standing right on the public sidewalk, which the Supreme Court has said over and over again is the place to express our deeply held religious and political beliefs. Looks like they’re going to be charged with disorderly conduct, of all things, when they weren’t even told what they were being arrested for,” Newman explains. “They were barely even warned. This is the sort of thing you’d expect in Beijing, China — not in Maryland.”
