Houston Hurricane Update for Tuesday, September 16, 2008 – Photos

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Here are some photos of the large tree that fell on our property. I wish I had the presence of mind to take pictures of it before the gentleman came by and cut if off the car, but I was operating on no sleep and lots of Mt. Dew.
The car is in the same place, so visual the top of the tree laying across it. If you have read the earlier blog post, I mentioned that only the top leafy portion of the tree hit the car. It broke off the radio antenna and left some scratches, but other than that, there were no further damage to it.

Houston Hurricane Update for Tuesday, September 16, 2008

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Conditions in Houston continue to deteriorate badly as many enter their third day without power.
It was my understanding that FEMA could call in the military if necessary to bring in supplies, yet there are only about two dozen distribution centers running only 12 hours a day servicing two million people. These POD’s (point of distribution) are manned by volunteers, the very people who are effected!!
I remember how we had 24 hour news coverage when Katrina caused flooding in New Orleans, yet the mainsteam media is doing good to put us in a news brief.
We truly had the Hand of God on us. Our ZIP code only has 50% of the homes with power. The town I work in has almost 100% power loss. We are so very blessed.
There are vast shortages that will eventually effect us. Gas and food are in short supply. People from the effected parts of town are making their way into our area looking for supplies (the same thing I would do if I was in their shoes). The moment the few stores that are open have items, they are sold out the same day. This situation is only going to worsen.
We are trying to conserve our gas, so we have not ventured out much (and I forgot to take the camera when we did). I have some pictures of the damage at my house, which was actually quite minimal. I will post them in the next blog post.
Keep praying for us. We need it very much.
