President-Elect Obama, Egomaniac Extraordinaire

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

It’s becoming apparent to me that our next president is most likely just a showman, full of hot air and lacking on any ideas of substance. I make this claim now, so that sometime next year, I’ll be able to do a “I told you so”.
In the meantime, enjoy the show as he add more props to make him look “presidential”.

President-elect Barack Obama is looking very presidential these days. When he makes an announcement, he is ringed by American flags and stands behind a lectern that has a very presidential-looking placard announcing “The Office of the President-Elect.”

But the props are merely that. Under the Constitution, there is no such thing as the Office of the President-elect. Technically, Obama will not even become the president-elect until the Electoral College convenes after the second Wednesday in December and elects him based on the results of the Nov. 4 general election, as stated in the Constitution.

So what is Obama’s executive authority in the weeks leading to Jan. 20?

In the 11 weeks between Election Day and Inauguration Day, the next president must ensure a smooth transition by selecting political appointees to manage key agencies and offices within the Executive Branch, and by creating the policies that will define the new administration — all while respecting the authority held by the current president.

The Presidential Transition Act — created in 1963 and amended in 2000 — establishes formal provisions for the transition period by outlining training and other assistance that the president-elect and his team of advisers can receive as they prepare to assume office.

The amended bill — co-sponsored by lawmakers including former Sen. Fred Thompson, Sen. Joe Lieberman, and Sen. Dick Durbin — calls for the “training and orientation of high-level presidential appointees,” among other things, as well as more efficient background checks to ensure individuals are properly vetted and confirmed for office.

“New administrations face a series of hurdles they must overcome to accomplish this essential task before they can begin to govern,” Lieberman told Congress in 1999 while arguing in favor of the amended legislation.

The original bill also allowed the president-elect and vice president-elect certain “services and facilities,” like suitable office space to conduct transition operations, public funds to pay their staff’s salaries and money to transport workers to and from Washington.

Obama has employed over 500 staffers to assist in his transition operations — working from a nondescript office building in downtown Washington and from locations in his hometown of Chicago.

His transition team has received a budget of $12 million — $5.2 million of which was allocated by Congress, and the rest from private donations of under $5,000.

As president-elect, Obama is also given the same highly classified intelligence briefings that President Bush receives on a daily basis. And Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden get full Secret Service protection, which Obama also received during the Democratic primaries and general election campaign.

But the “Office of the President-Elect,” while critical in building the future government, has no official power — which Obama himself acknowledged during his victory speech in Chicago on Election Night.

“It is an office — it’s just a quasi-government office for planning the takeover of the government,” said Stephen J. Wayne, a professor at Georgetown University’s department of government.

“Standing Against the King” by Ron Graham

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell,” Matthew 10:28.

In the book of Daniel we’re told a very interesting story that involved three young Hebrew men who were taken from their families when King Nebuchadnezzar conquered their homeland of Israel. These three devout, godly men stood against their new King and with boldness refused to bow to his false idol. Their names were Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. The chief of the eunuchs of Babylon gave these three young men new names. Hananiah’s name was changed to Shadrach, Mishael to Meshach, and Azariah’s new name was Abednego.

In the beginning of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s captivity in Babylon they were made to endure a time of preparation before coming before the king. Finally, when it was time, they were brought to the king and after he had interviewed them, King Nebuchadnezzar was well pleased with them finding the young men to possess ten times the knowledge and wisdom than that of his own magicians and astrologers. God gave them the knowledge and wisdom the king witnessed and after some prompting by Daniel himself the king set them over the affairs of the province.

After a while, King Nebuchadnezzar became so full of himself that he commissioned a golden image to be set up which stood approximately ten stories high. Nebuchadnezzar commanded everyone, “that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.” Daniel 3:5

Now the king received word from certain people of the province that his three favored young Jews, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, were being disobedient to his command, refusing to bow down and worship the golden image. So the King sent for the three young men and explained to them that if their disobedience continued they would be thrown into a fiery furnace. In other words the king gave them one last chance to change their minds and bow down to the golden image.

They responded with the following declaration. “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that [is] [the case], our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver [us] from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.” Basically the three young Jews were telling King Nebuchadnezzar in no uncertain words, “Up yours, O King”.

As you can well imagine this infuriated the king all the more and he had the furnace heated seven times hotter than normal. Then he commanded certain mighty men of valor to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and cast them into the fiery furnace. The heat was so intense that the mighty men, by obeying the King’s orders, were each consumed by the fire. Ultimately, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into what was supposed to be their fiery grave.

The Fiery Furnace

Most of us know the outcome of that extremely hot day. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were supernaturally delivered unharmed and unscorched from the flames and intense heat of the furnace. We know that Jesus was right there in the midst of the furnace walking alongside the three young Jews, and keeping them from harm.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego aren’t the only ones who were miraculously assisted through terrible trouble. Daniel also had his time in the depths of peril because he refused to halt his prayer time to God, even for a thirty-day period. Because Daniel remained true to God, he was cast into the lion’s den for a night. The mouths of the lions were supernaturally shut up, and Daniel was saved just like his three young friends. Why? What gave them the ability to withstand evil, to completely with all boldness, and without fear, hold fast to their faith?

Daniel in the Lion's Den

How many times have we read in our Bibles of various individuals being supernaturally escorted through what could have been terrible disasters? Many more than I dare try to fit within this commentary. If I were to place a few more within the lines of this text I’d certainly have to mention all of the patriarchs of the Old Testament. Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, David are all men who were joined by Jesus Himself as they traversed the perilous lives God had set before them.

Consider Noah and his family. Noah was given instructions by God to build an ark, a huge floating zoo, and God told Noah that He would allow man one hundred and twenty more years to repent. While building that ark, Noah and his family remained obedient to God even though they spent days, weeks, months, and even decades surrounded by hordes of satanically evil, corrupted people who undoubtedly persecuted that small godly family over and over again. Imagine, if you will, being one of eight people surrounded by millions of hate filled demonically controlled mongrels. It must have been similar to an older lady I read about recently in Palm Springs, California, who was just carrying her cross one day and found herself in the middle of a horde of crazed homosexuals who smelled blood. She was certainly terrified for a short while. Remember, Noah and his family endured one hundred and twenty years of it.

Noah's Ark

Certainly we too have this supernatural covering as we face adversities in our walk with Jesus. In “Foxe’s Book of Martyrs” we can read of numerous occasions where Christians were being put through the most horrible of deaths, and eye witnesses exclaimed as they watched the faces of those being put to death “Their faces seemed as angels smiling to the end.” How is that possible? Only through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit can we Christians stand in the face of such horrendous tortures and persecutions.

I’m not saying I believe we are going to experience anything like those I’ve mentioned, but I do believe persecution of the Christian Church is coming. It would be quite arrogant of us Christians living here in the U.S. to think we are immune. What kind of persecutions are coming you might ask? Well, certainly, we are already witnessing some of it today. Watch the news and you’ll see the agenda of the homosexuals hard at work persecuting the Church. Laws are being formulated and progressed to systematically eliminate God’s Holy Word from all venues in our public arenas. Never in the history of the English printed Bible has there been such a determination to remove it and deliver it to its final resting place, a heap of burning Bibles.

Around the world today Christians are being persecuted, abused, discriminated against, and martyred for adhering to their faith in Jesus Christ. Freedom of religion is of the past, intolerance toward Christians is the order of the day. Most country’s governments today are involved in silencing the Christian’s voice in one way or another. No, they won’t admit it. Nonetheless, they are hard at it and won’t be satisfied until their satanic mission is complete.

Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and the others mentioned did not bend or bow to evil pressures, or influences. They stood on God’s inerrant word. They were bold in their response to the king. They knew for sure that God would see them through whatever evil obstacle was placed before them. Believers can take heart in knowing that many Christian brothers and sisters have gone through countless trials and hardships, but God, through His Holy Spirit, went with them through their adversity. He will be right beside us as well.

I know you’ve heard it a million times; Jesus said “I will never leave you nor forsake you” Hebrews 13:5. But after reading about the escapades of Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and Daniel, along with all the others, shouldn’t we be even more fully assured that He means what He says? Jesus did not leave them to the evil intent of their captors, and He won’t leave us to the evil intent of a government bent on destroying this nation.

God will not be mocked, and if this new administration coming soon on the scene believes it can run the United States of America without God, they certainly have another thing coming, and I’m being very serious when I say this. God is in control and, with His Church being under such pressure to assimilate into the new culture being promoted, He will take drastic measures to free us from such bondage. Don’t be fooled into believing the lie of our newly-elected president that we need change. When he makes that statement he’s talking about changing our current Christian nation into an atheistic, socialistic, humanistic, Satan-following nation of fools.

Christians, hold on to God’s promises. Be as steadfast as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were in their time and don’t let an evil king sway you in your beliefs. Our only King is King Jesus and we adhere to His word for our lives. Pray for our nation and our newly-elected presidential administration, but don’t be lulled to sleep; stay vigilant in your walk with Christ.

Jesus Christ

How do we believers occupy ‘til He comes? By holding fast to our faith in Christ. Never stop studying God’s word. Just as important, and imperative, is our continued witnessing to the lost. Even though we are growing closer to the Rapture of His Church, we are aware that Jesus is still saving lives and He will continue to, with or without a God-fearing U.S. President.

God bless you all,
Ron Graham

“Why Reporters — and Judges and Professors — Are Biased” by Dennis Prager

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

That the news media were biased in the 2008 presidential election is now acknowledged by fair-minded people, left or right

As Time Magazine’s Mark Halperin said this weekend at a Politico/USC Conference on the 2008 election: “It’s the most disgusting failure of people in our business. … It was extreme bias, extreme pro-Obama coverage.”

Given how obvious this bias is, the question is not whether liberals in the media tend to offer biased reporting. The question is why? Why can’t liberal news people report the news without any slant?

The answer is that for people on the left, all — I repeat, (set ital) all (end ital) — professions are a means to an end, not ends in themselves. That end is the social transformation of society, meaning the promoting of “social justice” as the left understands that term.

For most liberal news reporters, therefore, the purpose of news reporting is not to report news as objectively as possible. The purpose of the media in general and of reporting specifically is to promote social justice and the social transformation of society.

For most liberal judges, the primary purpose of being a judge is to promote social justice and transform society. That is why liberal judges are so much more likely to be judicial activists than conservative judges. Most liberal judges do not see their roles as merely adjudicating a dispute according to the law. They see their role primarily as using the law and their power to rule on the law to promote social justice.

For most university professors — and many high school teachers, as well — outside of the natural sciences and math, the same holds true. The task of a teacher is to teach, i.e., to convey the most important information as honestly as possible. But, again, this conflicts with the social justice goal of the left. History teachers who merely teach history are of little use to the left. History — and English and political science, and sociology and other liberal arts — teachers must use their classroom to produce young people who will wish to engage in society-transforming work for social justice.

“ON HIS 18TH YAHRZEIT: TRIBUTES TO RABBI MEIR KAHANE THROUGHOUT ISRAEL” by Fern Sidman

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

The Heichal Dovid Hall in Jerusalem was filled to capacity on Monday evening, November 10, as followers of Rabbi Meir Kahane, ZTK”L gathered to pay tribute to his legacy on the occasion of his 18th yahrzeit and to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Jewish Defense League. Gunned down at a midtown Manhattan hotel on November 5, 1990 (18 Cheshvan) by Egyptian born convicted terrorist, El Said Nosair, Rabbi Meir Kahane was remembered as a man “who spoke the truth, despite the often ominous repercussions.” Founder of the Jewish Defense League, the Kach political party in Israel, and The Yeshiva of The Jewish Idea in Jerusalem, Rabbi Kahane was memorialized by those who maintained close personal ties to him and many shared recollections of the man behind the political persona.

The featured speaker of the yahrzeit was Rebbetzin Libby Kahane, his wife of over 34 years who recently authored a meticulously researched biography of his life, replete with numerous personal stories entitled, “Rabbi Meir Kahane: His Life and Thought – Volume One 1932-1975”. Referring to him by his first name, Rebbetzin Kahane said, “Meir had a special gift for relating to people. He inspired many to believe in Hashem and His Torah. Every word Meir said came from his heart and it was clear to everyone that he was completely sincere.” As to the impact that Rabbi Kahane had on an assimilated generation of Jews in the 1960s and 70s, Rebbetzin Kahane recalled, “One man, who joined JDL when he was a teenager, said, “He inspired me and many of my generation to stay Jewish.” When I was interviewing people for my book, the most meaningful praise for Meir were the words: “I am raising my children the way the Reb would have wanted.”

Other speakers at the yahrzeit included former JDL security chief, Garth Kravat who regaled the audience with his personal memories of the early years of the JDL and the various demonstrations and actions that took place in the defense of poor and elderly inner city Jews. Meir Weinstein, current chairman of the JDL in Canada spoke of how Rabbi Kahane taught him, “never to back down” in the face of rabid Jew hatred and detailed of the proliferation of vehement anti-Israel activism on such college campuses as York University in Toronto.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the evening was the presentation of a documentary style film utilizing old black and white footage of a young Rabbi Kahane at age 38 speaking about the ideological origins of the Jewish Defense League and why the formation of this seminal movement was “an idea whose time had come.” Rabbi Kahane’s prescience, wisdom and foresight leaped forth from the screen as he described the objectives of the JDL. “We are not seeking to create a new Jew, but rather to re-create the old Jew, the Jew of the Torah, the Jew who is devoted to G-d, to Torah and mitzvos, but who also rises up to defend himself and his people. We wish to create a generations of Jews who emulate Moshe Rabbeinu, King David and Shimshon HaGibor.”

Other events organized to mark the yahrzeit of Rabbi Kahane included a gala concert organized by Mike Guzofsky at the settlement of Tapuach in the Shomrom, which was home to the late Binyamin Ze’ev Kahane, ZTK”L, son of Rabbi Kahane and his family. The younger Kahane and his wife Talia were also murdered in an Arab terrorist attack in December of 2000. The Kahane Tribute Concert took place on Motzei Shabbos, Parshas Vayera and included such performers as Shlomo Katz, Gavriel Sachs, Ron Weissman, Yerachmiel Ziegler of the Optimystical Band, Ari Ben Yam, Ben Levine and Yosef Hasdiel. The crowd of over 350 people, comprised mostly of young American and Israeli yeshiva students also listened to words of praise for Rabbi Kahane, as several featured speakers took the podium.

Rabbi Baruch Kahane, an erudite Torah scholar and the only surviving son of Rabbi Kahane urged the bochurim to make a Kiddush Hashem and to honor Rabbi Kahane’s memory by consistently being “B’Osek in Torah” (making Torah their daily business) and thereby transforming themselves in to exemplary Torah students and outstanding Jews. “My father was a man of truth, as he knew that the hallmark of Hashem is truth and it is up to us to emulate truth every single moment of our lives, despite the ramifications” said his son.

Other JDL leaders and prominent Jewish activists also weighed in on the significance of Rabbi Kahane’s legacy and the eternal lessons of his message. Shelley Rubin, wife of the late JDL chairman Irv Rubin, of blessed memory, who traveled to Jerusalem to attend these events but did not speak at the yahrzeit dinner said, “Rabbi Kahane and the other early leaders of JDL saw the necessity and viability of an organization that would boldly and unapologetically advocate authentic Torah values, Jewish strength and Jewish pride, and buck the trend of the establishment.” Former Jewish Press columnist and founder of Victims of Arab Terror, Shifra Hoffman said, “In his last speech, Rabbi Kahane advocated an emergency aliyah program for all Jews. The grim realities of the current world economic crisis makes the Rabbi’s message even more crucial for Jewish survival. I implore all Jews to come home to Israel before it is too late.”

“The Case of the Missing Honor Killing” by Dr. Phyllis Chesler

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Psychologically, we tend to believe that what we see with our own eyes, especially if it is “acted out” for us, is the “truth.” Our brains are wired so that visual images assume a permanent reality–even if that reality is a computer-generated or photo-shopped Big Lie. Mohammed al-Dura did not die in his fathers’ arms even though that carefully staged image was seen round the world. Israel did not massacre anyone in Jenin even though that Big Lie has also taken on a life of its own.

I’m glad that America’s Most Wanted chose to dramatize the honor killing of Sarah and Amina Said in Dallas on Jan 1, 2008 by their father Yaser Abdul Said, who has been missing ever since. I hope the program helps aid in his capture. I applaud on-camera narrator John Walsh, who has turned his own grief at the loss of his child into something positive for so many others.

However, the dramatization was oddly, perhaps even purposefully misleading. Key figures were either fatally mischaracterized or were entirely missing in action. Malevolent motives, which had no basis in fact, were attributed to the innocent girls and yet their mother, Patricia, was not presented as the collaborator in their murder which she surely was. Their older brother, Islam, a foul-mouthed man who bullied his mother, harassed and monitored his sisters, and ultimately justified their being honor murdered, was not in the TV picture

Why would America’s Most Wanted do this?

Patricia, the girls’ mother, is and was a white, brownish-blonde, blue-eyed Texas-born Christian woman, a child really, when Yaser first married her. The dramatization chose to portray her as an Arab- or Hispanic-looking woman. Although the program has an on-camera interview with the real Patricia, their choice of an Arab-looking actress to play Patricia accomplishes the following:

Viewers might think that the girls really were rebelling against their culture when, in fact, their mother and her extended family are Christian-Americans whose customs the girls were choosing. Second, by failing to show the real Patricia as she enticed her daughters to come home, promised them that their father only wanted to make up, the program blurs, renders indistinct, the fact that this was a classic honor killing, one which always involves a family collaboration. That is probably why they did not include the girls’ older brother Islam. He would have also visually and verbally confirmed the concept that an honor killing is characterized by family collaboration. Of course, Islam may also have cursed the producers and threatened to kill or sue them if he was included. Nice guy.

In other words folks, the producers did not want to inflame any white “ethnic” or “racist” passion by showing an Arab Muslim male tyrant dominating a white Christian American woman (his wife) and their daughters. The program wanted no part of the long, historical stench which has attended the usually false, but sometimes true allegations about “Indians” or “blacks” raping white women, and the terrible lynchings that have occurred thereafter.

But, even more: The producers did not want to be charged with ‘Islamophobia” by showing what a real, full-blown honor killing looks like. Further, they wanted to appear and present a “balanced” re-creation even if they had to make things up in order to do so. Thus, they showed the two girls as plotting revenge or preemptive self-defense against their father. If only Sarah and Amina had followed through on this imaginary course of action, they might be alive today. But, knowing how American law works, they might also be in jail for life.

While the program tried to pack a lot of information into a limited amount of time, they did not show how brutally and continuously Yaser physically and verbally assaulted his daughters, tapped their phone lines, monitored their computers, watched them and had them watched.

Finally, to be extra careful, the program chose an exceptionally soft-spoken Muslim boy, Zohair Zaid, the girls’ friend, who said some strong, true things but who also presented such a peaceful face of Islam. It does exist and yet–what a perfect foil to Yaser Said’s cold-blooded murderousness. One cancels the other out and we are left with … confusion.

Zohair advised the girls to take their fathers’ threat to kill them seriously and to go to the police. He also told them that “once you run away, you can never come back. He will become totally insane once he’s lost control of you…His honor and dignity (will be) scarred.”

What a shame they did not listen to Zohair but instead listened to their murderous mother. On camera, a subdued, soft-spoken Patricia, actually defends Yaser. She says that when she would punish or ground the girls, that Yaser would try to protect them, go easy on them. When she was asked whether Yaser was upset when he discovered that his daughters were dating Christian boyfriends, Patricia says: “I don’t think so. He always said that we could work (everything) out as a family.”

Either Patricia is dull-witted, exceptionally passive, even mentally retarded; was battered, brainwashed, primed to turn against her own daughters; is one hellava cunning criminal; or, long ago, converted to Yaser’s brand of Arabian-Egyptian Islamism, shares Yaser’s view that disobedient daughters should be punished, even killed. A typical Islamist mother.

I want to know why the police have not arrested her and why America’s Most Wanted has failed to portray her accurately.

I asked Gail Gartrell, the girls’ great-aunt, what she thought of the program. Viewing it made her angry and it broke her heart. Gartrell feels that the program failed to present this double homicide as a full-blown honor killing. She quotes John Walsh who said: “Some people say this was an honor killing. But, there’s no honor in this.”

“How dare he.” Gartrell said. “I have worked hard to educate and get the word out about honor killings and he diminished what honor killings entail. You know, they are usually well planned out in advance and others in the family involve themselves as well. How about this? Yaser shoots the girls, gets out of the cab without a single drop of blood on him, after 11 shots were fired at close range, and simply walks away. Who picked him up? He did not leave there on foot. Someone picked him up and fled with him.”

How about it? Who could have driven Yaser away?

I have to give them credit for one thing. They had the means (Was it money? Or attention?) to get the otherwise reclusive Patricia to talk to them on camera. Check her out for yourselves. As I said she’s soft-spoken, passive, subdued.

But this is also how an honor killer looks.

Perhaps this is also another face of jihad. Think about it. What if an American-despising Yaser was also interested in marrying Patricia in order to get a green card, become a citizen–and biologically produce American citizen jihadists? Might the fifth column we have long feared, come from such a source? Yaser is known to have owned many knives and guns, known to have taken his family to “Jihad military camps.” At least, they are posed wearing keffiyehs and brandishing weapons. Maybe he was only joking. Maybe his annual visit back home to Egypt was only to visit another wife and family. Maybe Yaser is just a petty criminal and woman-hater.

But what if Yaser married as a form of jihad? What if his daughters were in turn expected to marry other Egyptian jihadists who would pay dowries for them?

I hope the FBI is considering all these questions.

California to Investigate Mormon Aid to Gay Marriage Ban; Ignores Hate Crimes Against Churches, Christians

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

It’s no secret that I don’t agree with the tenets of the Mormon Church. But I find it odd that the California government is able to move so quickly to investigate the Mormon’s role in helping Proposition 8 pass, yet they haven’t gotten around to charging anyone who has attacked churches and Christians.
Are these not also “hate crimes”?
As a matter of fact, a cross carrying elderly lady was attacked while being interviewed on TV. To my knowledge, no one has yet to charged in that attack, let alone charged with a hate crime. Law enforcement officials have these people on tape attacking this lady and yet they can’t seem to find anyone to charge.

SAN FRANCISCO — California officials will investigate whether the Mormon church accurately described its role in a campaign to ban gay marriage in the state.

The California Fair Political Practices Commission said Monday a complaint by a gay rights group merits further inquiry.

Executive director Roman Porter says the decision does not mean any wrongdoing has been determined.

Fred Karger, founder of Californians Against Hate, accuses the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of failing to report the value of work it did to support Proposition 8, which amended

California’s constitution to define marriage exclusively as a union between a man and woman.

A representative from the Salt Lake City-based church could not be reached for comment.
