Hamas Proposes Year-Long Truce with Israel

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Koran 47:36 says “Therefore do not falter or sue for peace when you have gained the upper hand.”

So it will take them that long to rearm and start shooting at Israel again? I doubt it. I predict they will begin shooting within weeks, if not days.

CAIRO, Egypt — Hamas officials in Cairo proposed Sunday a year-long truce with Israel and an opening of the crossings into the Gaza Strip, in the latest round of diplomatic meetings to build on a fragile cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas official Ayman Taha told reporters in Cairo that his delegation was briefed by the Egyptians on an Israeli proposal for a year-and-a-half long truce with only partial opening of the border, which they rejected.

Instead, Taha says the group made a counter offer of a year with open borders, which they now must discuss with their leadership in Damascus.

“We will study the matter again and it will be brought back to the Egyptians,” he told MENA, the official Egyptian news agency, without elaborating on the other provisions of the possible deal. Hamas has said in the past that it will only maintain a truce if Israel ends its blockade of the Gaza Strip and opens the crossings.

“Nancy Pelosi: Unborn Babies Burden on Economy” by Jennifer Rast

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Nancy Pelosi is busy pushing The One’s agenda, and has hit the talk show circuit to explain how fewer babies will save the economy. When confronted with the exorbitant amount of money Congress is allocating to family planning (aka sex ed and abortion), Pelosi’s reply was that we have to deal with this economic downturn, and one one of the ways to do that is to fund family planning that leads to fewer babies. Wow, Nancy. Maybe all conservatives should just be asked to offer up their first born as a sacrifice to Obama’s trillion dollar spending extravaganza. How much more can we devalue human life? Now babies are just an expendable burden on on the state, and something to be prevented so Washington can spend more money? These people really are sick. Maybe Pelosi would like to bring back the forced sterilizations of the 1920’s and 30’s and weed out the “unfit” to save a buck. Eugenics is alive and well in America, thanks to the godless liberals.

I guess it makes sense to give a huge chunk of that change going to Planned Parenthood. The founder of PPA, Margaret Sanger, was a staunch supporter of Eugenics, and the board of PPFA was made up of the same people who sat on the board of the Eugenics Society of America. My, how history repeats itself when you stop teaching history, and begin revising it. I guess she’s only following in her President’s footsteps. Speaking of his daughter during the campaign, he said “If she makes a mistake…I don’t want to punish her with a baby!” So, babies are punishments, and now an unnecessary tax burden on the government. But, hey, population control is working out great for China…..Unless you’re the mother who wants to have more than two children. No choice for you! Come back, 30 year!

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi boldly defended a move to add birth control funding to the new economic “stimulus” package, claiming “contraception will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.”

Pelosi, the mother of 5 children and 6 grandchildren, who once said, “Nothing in my life will ever, ever compare to being a mom,” seemed to imply babies are somehow a burden on the treasury.

The revelation came during an exchange Sunday morning on ABC’s THIS WEEK.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?

PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?

PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.

Girls Basketball Team Wins 100-0, Seeks Forfeit

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I have a problem with this. Why should the girls give up a win that they earned fairly? Why do we, as a society, teach and reward mediocrity instead of excellence? This is an example of what is wrong with this country.
If any blame should be levied in this instance, it should be levied against the association making the rules. It is their fault that no “mercy-rule” is in effect.
The girls won the game. They won it fairly. They didn’t cheat, they merely played much better than the other team.
Why didn’t the coach of the loosing team go ahead and forfeit when it became apparent that the score was going to be a blow-out?
Or better yet, why don’t they use this occasion as an example to compel their players to learn and play the game harder? The best way to avoid a blowout at a sporting event is to play the game better. If the team is unable to do so, perhaps there is a different level within the association that would match other teams of similar play experience and “even the field”, so to speak.

Update at the bottom.

DALLAS — A Texas high school girls basketball team on the winning end of a 100-0 game has a case of blowout remorse.

Now officials from the winning school say they are trying to do the right thing by seeking a forfeit and apologizing for the margin of victory.

In a statement Thursday on The Covenant School’s Web site, the head of school said, “It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened.” He went on to say that Covenant has made “a formal request to forfeit the game recognizing that a victory without honor is a great loss.”

Last week Covenant, a private Christian school in Dallas, defeated Dallas Academy 100-0. Covenant was up 59-0 at halftime.

A parent who attended the game told The Associated Press that Covenant continued to make 3-pointers — even in the fourth quarter. She praised the Covenant players but said spectators and an assistant coach were cheering wildly as their team edged closer to 100 points.

“I think the bad judgment was in the full-court press and the 3-point shots,” said Renee Peloza, whose daughter plays for Dallas Academy. “At some point, they should have backed off.”

Dallas Academy coach Jeremy Civello told The Dallas Morning News that the game turned into a “layup drill,” with the opposing team’s guards waiting to steal the ball and drive to the basket. Covenant scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and “finally eased up when they got to 100 with about four minutes left,” he said.

Dallas Academy has eight girls on its varsity team and about 20 girls in its high school. It is winless over the last four seasons. The academy boasts of its small class sizes and specializes in teaching students struggling with “learning differences,” such as short attention spans or dyslexia.

There is no mercy rule in girls basketball that shortens the game or permits the clock to continue running when scores become lopsided. There is, however, “a golden rule” that should have applied in this contest, said Edd Burleson, the director of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools. Both schools are members of this association, which oversees private school athletics in Texas.

“On a personal note, I told the coach of the losing team how much I admire their girls for continuing to compete against all odds,” Burleson said. “They showed much more character than the coach that allowed that score to get out of hand. It’s up to the coach to control the outcome.”

Update 10:52 on 1/26/09:
The coach of the winning team has been fired. He refused to apologize for the win, citing some of the same reasons I did.

Activists to Obama: Go Watch an Abortion

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Christians who voted for Obama; you need to read this…

President Obama, who as an Illinois state lawmaker objected to requiring doctors to provide medical care for infants who survive abortions, has been issued a challenge by March for Life officials, who today rallied in Washington to mark the 36th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade U.S. Supreme Court ruling striking state bans on abortion.

Obama had been invited to address the annual march on the mall in Washington, which typically has attracted hundreds of thousands every year since 1974. Instead of participating, Obama issued a statement affirming his support for abortion, calling it a “woman’s right to choose” and encouraging finding “common ground” to expand contraception, health information and preventative services.

Former President Bush addressed rally participants during his tenure, often by telephone, encouraging them in their efforts to build a nation in which every life is protected, including the unborn.

Just a year ago, Bush said, “We aspire to build a society where each one of us is welcomed in life and protected in law. We haven’t arrived, but we are making progress.”

He continued, “This America is nurtured by people like you, who speak up for the weak and the innocent. This America is the destiny of a people whose founding document speaks of the right to life that is a gift of our Creator, not a grant of the state.”

March for Life officials confirmed they invited Obama for the 2009 event, but absent his participation, they posted a challenge on the Internet.

“As a candidate, President-Elect Obama made two important campaign promises: first, that he will be president of all of the people, and also that he will make change. Then, as president of all the people, which includes preborn humans, he must educate himself about the evils over-flowing our American culture from Roe v. Wade,” the challenge said.

“They are the evils of denying worth to a whole class of innocent preborn humans. They are the evils of denying protection of the unalienable right to life of preborn humans in existence at fertilization. They are the same evils which America suffered by having to put down slavery and the holocaust.”

The campaign said Obama must learn that on his inauguration day alone an estimated 3,000 pregnant mothers were “brutalized physically and emotionally by surgical abortion, and 3,000 innocent preborn human boys and girls … killed intentionally.”

The challenge states to be president “of all of the people”:

1. “He must watch the evil deed of a surgical abortion to know what it looks like to pull off the head, arms and legs of a preborn human – there is a commercial killing site within a few blocks of the White House.

2. “He must learn about abortion evil by talking with suffering post-abortion mothers and fathers.

3. “He must talk with an adult who survived the violations of abortion.

4. “He must learn about the love and work of selfless pro-lifers who provide free services for pregnant mothers.

5. “He must join with us volunteer March for Life defenders who stand up for change which overturns Roe vs. Wade because we cannot tolerate that our beloved country continues to participate in the intentional genocide of an estimated 50,000,000 innocent preborn human boys and girls since Roe v. Wade.”

March for Life officials pulled no punches in their challenge.

“The purpose of the 36th annual March for Life is to educate Washington Officialdom and the entire American citizenry and media that the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade opinion is illicit because it attempts to authorize the intentional killing of innocent preborn humans with impunity,” they wrote. “But, as we learn from the principles of the Nuremberg Trials, the intentional killing of innocent humans is a crime against humanity which neither a public official nor any human person has the authority to legalize. Nevertheless, in Roe v. Wade, our Supreme Court unfortunately decriminalized the intentional killing of preborn children— for now.”

The organization said in its statement, “President-Elect Obama must learn that no one owns the right to life of another human in existence at fertilization because we Americans are governed by self-evident truths ‘that all Men are created equal … endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life . . .'”

The explanation said a pregnant mother and/or her preborn child could die in trauma, “but no one may intentionally kill either innocent born or preborn human to save the life of the other. Abortion is never therapy.”

Nellie J. Gray, president of March for Life, delivered to Obama an invitation to the rally.

“We request that would come to speak to us,” she wrote. “Why? Because America needs your strong leadership as president of all of the people to stop the intentional killing of an estimated 3,000 preborn boys and girls each day.

“Abortion evil in America is error which officials and citizenry of both church and state have a duty to stop and can unite to stop. The dreadful killing goes on because abortionists and media keep the innocent blood of preborns out-of-sight, which keeps many Americans so passive to the evil of killing that they tolerate or even support a choice to murder preborns,” she told Obama.

“Mr. Obama, we hear about genocide in far-off lands, and America is asked to help stop that evil. Certainly America wants to help stop all genocide evil – foreign and domestic. Since the illicit Roe v. Wade, America suffers genocide of an estimated 50,000,000 preborn boys and girls. And, since the March for Life Rally last year, an estimated 1,300,000 preborn humans have been intentionally killed out-of-sight,” she told him.

“Robert Reich: Keep Stimulus Money Away from Skilled Workers and ‘White Male Contractors'” By Michelle Malkin

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Reich’s proposal exposes the lie that the Obama administration is actually interested in revitalizing basic infrastructure for the good of the economy. No, what Team Obama really wants is to ensure that the least skilled, least qualified workers get jobs based on their chromosomes and pigment.

Reich wrote on his blog:

The stimulus plan will create jobs repairing and upgrading the nation’s roads, bridges, ports, levees, water and sewage system, public-transit systems, electricity grid, and schools. And it will kick-start alternative, non-fossil based sources of energy (wind, solar, geothermal, and so on); new health-care information systems; and universal broadband Internet access.

It’s a two-fer: lots of new jobs, and investments in the nation’s future productivity.

But if there aren’t enough skilled professionals to do the jobs involving new technologies, the stimulus will just increase the wages of the professionals who already have the right skills rather than generate many new jobs in these fields. And if construction jobs go mainly to white males who already dominate the construction trades, many people who need jobs the most — women, minorities, and the poor and long-term unemployed — will be shut out.

What to do? There’s no easy solution to either dilemma…

People can be trained relatively quickly for these sorts of jobs, as well as many infrastructure j0bs generated by the stimulus — installing new pipes for water and sewage systems, repairing and upgrading equipment, basic construction — but contractors have to be nudged both to provide the training and to do the hiring.

I’d suggest that all contracts entered into with stimulus funds require contractors to provide at least 20 percent of jobs to the long-term unemployed and to people with incomes at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. And at least 2 percent of project funds should be allocated to such training. In addition, advantage should be taken of buildings trades apprenticeships — wich must be fully available to women and minorities.

Reich made similar comments in his Jan. 7 congressional testimony on economic recovery. Naked Emperor News uploaded the video:

Partial transcript:

REICH: …”I am concerned, as I’m sure many of you are, that these jobs not simply go to high-skilled people who are already professionals or to white male construction workers…I have nothing against white male construction workers, I’m just saying there are other people who have needs as well.”

Yes, God forbid the jobs go to people with track records and experience. God forbid we judge stimulus recipients on the content of their resumes as opposed to the color of their skin.

There are other people who have needs as well.

Spoken like a true-blue wealth redistributor. The “needs” (read: demands) of politically protected minorities trump the need for competently build roads and bridges.

Rep. Charlie Rangel then chimes in to kvetch about how governors need to be “forced” to comply with formulas that earmark the stimulus money based on color-coded “needs.”

I quote Rangel: “Remove the discretion! Identify the ‘need.’ Do numbers.”

Translation: Screw qualifications. Quota-monger America out of its recession.

And here’s the kicker: Rangel tells Reich that he doesn’t have to worry about middle-class opposition to their social engineering plans for the stimulus. Why? Because they’re too busy working! It’s at the 2:33 mark of the video:

RANGEL: And one thing you can depend on, you don’t have to be worried about what the middle-class is gonna do. Things are so bad. They have to put food on their tables. Clothes for their kids. Get them in school. I think this is a tremendous opportunity for a stronger America.

Rangel wraps up by advocating that Reich “force” and “mandate” his social engineering “criteria” for stimulus spending.

So much for “post-racialism.” So much for “setting aside childish things.” The Age of Obama has resurrected the same old bean-counters.

Palestinian Journalists: Death Toll Inflated

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

One of the terrorist weapons of choice; the media. The terrorist say it, the media reports it as fact, even though terrorist lie most of the time.

While most of the media was reporting a final toll of the Gaza war, an Italian reporter visiting many hospitals in the strip says the casualty rates were far, far lower, and that Palestinian journalists know it. The Jerusalem Post explains

The number of Palestinians killed in Operation Cast Lead did not exceed five or six hundred, Lorenzo Cremonesi, a correspondent for Italy’s Corriere Della Sera reported on Thursday.

Cremonesi based his report on tours of hospitals in the Gaza Strip and on interviews with families of casualties. He also assessed the number of wounded to be far lower than 5,000, the number quoted by Hamas and repeated by the UN and the Red Cross in Gaza.

“It is sufficient to visit several hospitals [in the Gaza Strip] to understand that the numbers don’t add up,” he wrote.

In the European hospital in Rafah, one of the facilities which would presumably be filled with wounded from the “war of the tunnels,” many beds were empty, according to Cremonesi. A similar situation was noted in the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, and in the privately-run Amal Hospital Cremonesi reported that only five out 150 beds were occupied.

YNet News notes that Palestinian reporters were aware of the inflated numbers, confirming this to Cremonesi:

The reporter for the Italian newspaper also quoted reporters in the Strip who told of Hamas’ exaggerated figures, “We have already said to Hamas commanders – why do you insist on inflating the number of victims?”

These same reporters mentioned that the truth that will come out is likely to be similar to what occurred in Operation Defensive Shield in Jenin. “Then, there was first talk of 1,500 deaths. But then it turned out that there were only 54, 45 of which were armed men,” the Palestinian reporters told the Italian newspaper.

The IDF claims 500 Hamas gunmen killed during the war; Hamas says a mere 48.

How is it that the same Palestinian reporters telling the West of 1,330 deaths are acknowledging a different reality and simply waiting for the truth to “come out” like in Jenin?

Turkish Muslims Attempt to Seize 1,600-Year-Old Christian Monastery

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

ISTANBUL, January 22 (Compass Direct News) – Syriac Christians in southeastern Turkey say a land dispute over the historic Mor Gabriel Monastery is part of a larger system of discrimination against the religious minority in this overwhelmingly Islamic country.

Muslim residents of southeastern Turkey dispute the boundary lines of an ancient Christian monastery dating to the fourth century as being unnecessarily large for the needs of a religious community. Islamic village leaders from Yayvantepe, Eglence and Candarli are attempting to confiscate one-third of the monastery’s property, claiming it was wrongfully appropriated and that they need it for their livestock.

Area Muslims also say the land in question is forest and thereby registered as land belonging to the State Treasury.

“Our land is being occupied by the monastery,” [coat tailing on the same “logic” used to justify terrorist acts in Gaza and the West Bank. -ed.] said Ismail Erlal, village leader of Yayvantepe, according to Cihan News Agency. “We make use of the forest there and pasture our animals; we won’t give up our rights.”

Among the most contentious issues are the monastery walls built around its perimeter, rebuilt 15 years ago. Village leaders complain in a lawsuit to obtain the land that the monastery has gone beyond its rightful bounds. In August the land survey office of Midyat said it had determined that 270 hectares of the monastery’s 760 hectares were government property, including land inside and outside the monastery’s walls.

A court in Mardin originally scheduled a hearing for Friday (Jan. 16) to determine the legal status of the monastery walls, but it was rescheduled to Feb. 11 to allow the court more time to examine the case. At the February hearing the court will determine if the 270 hectares of land belong to the government or the monastery.

Metropolitan Timotheos Samuel Aktas, leader of the monastery, answered in a report that the monastery has the right to leave its land uncultivated and has paid taxes on the property since 1937.

The state originally charged the monastery with being founded illegally, but it dropped those charges by canceling a hearing originally schedule for Dec. 24. Rudi Sumer, the attorney representing the monastery, said that the claim was groundless since the monastery has foundation status dating back to modern Turkey’s origins, not to mention centuries of existence beforehand.

The mayors of Yayvantepe, Eglence and Candarli also charged the monastery with attempting to proselytize young children (illegal in Turkey) and carrying out “anti-Turkish” activity.

Metropolitan Aktas said in a report that these claims were groundless and of the same provocative nature that has historically sparked violence against Turkey’s Christians.

“All the allegations are frivolous and vexatious, devoid of any logic or evidence, solely aimed with the malicious intent of rousing anti-Christian sentiments by the surrounding Muslim villages,” he said.

“They’re Poor Winners Too” by David Limbaugh

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Leftists are always lecturing Republicans and conservatives on the importance of civility and bipartisanship yet revealing, whether winner or losing, that they are the ones who need lessons in manners and collegiality.

If you aren’t convinced of the left’s nonpareil arrogance and nastiness from observing their behavior toward President Bush and Vice President Cheney for the past eight years, then contrast the behavior of Mr. Bush’s staff leaving office and that of Mr. Clinton’s, who literally trashed the White House like juvenile delinquents.

Fast-forwarding to this week, did you see Obama supporters booing President Bush at the inauguration, singing, “Na, na, na, na, hey, hey, hey, goodbye”? Pure class.

The Washington Times reported that these same Obama supporters mocked Mr. Cheney “with derisive laughter when he appeared on huge TV screens by the Capitol grounds, rolling down a ramp in a wheelchair after suffering a back injury moving out of his Naval Observatory home. ‘Good riddance!’ one man yelled.”

Nor was it just rude mobs at the parade. “Hardball” host Chris Matthews wasn’t content to bask in his euphoria over Obama’s assumption of office. Like many of his colleagues, he needed to kick Bush as he was going out the door. “There’ll be no more bullying of the world, no more acting like one of the bad guys on occasion. We’re going to try again to be the good guy of the world and to get along with our fellow democracies. It is a dramatic change that’s to come.” Dramatic, indeed, Chris.

Then we saw the surviving Dean of Network Broadcasters, Tom Brokaw, tackily, nay, sadistically remarking, “It’s unfortunate for Vice President Cheney to have had this accident, obviously, because there will be those who don’t like him who will be writing tomorrow that he had a Dr. Strangelove appearance as he appeared today in his wheelchair.” Well, Tom, the only writing about this I’ve seen is in reference to your snide comment.

In case you think this was uncharacteristic of Brokaw’s general attitude, then perhaps you didn’t hear about his other comparison. NewsBusters reported that he likened the mood of the inauguration crowd to what he’d observed at the fall of the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia. “It reminds me of the Velvet Revolution,” he said. While he “charitably” conceded that Bush’s administration was not a communist regime that had been overthrown, he remarked, “An unpopular president is leaving, and people have been waiting for this moment. And there’s that same sense of joyfulness and possibility, even though, as in Czechoslovakia, they had enormous problems, and we do, as well.” (And these clowns accuse my brother of being over-the-top.)

If you have a particular masochistic streak and want to overdose on the liberal media’s bias, run a quick LexisNexis search and read the comments from “journalists” accompanying the inauguration of President George W. Bush or Ronald Reagan. Ann Coulter’s recent column contained a few choice examples.

One might think the new post-partisan president himself would have broken from this trend and exuded the singular kind of collegiality for which he is celebrated. But in the midst of his lofty speech, he couldn’t pass up a few digs at the exiting administration, either: “The time has come to set aside childish things. … Our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions, that time has surely passed.”

Obama also couldn’t resist a jab at the knuckle-dragging science-averse, apparently for failing to swallow the left’s uncompromising faith-based opinion, which has come under increasing scientific challenge (31,000-plus scientists and counting), that human activities are leading to apocalyptic global warming. “We will restore science to its rightful place,” he said. I assume “its rightful place” is in service to leftist propaganda.

Unfortunately, this superior, blame-assigning attitude was not just inaugural rhetoric; it has made its way onto the new White House agenda Web site. Under “Katrina,” it boasts: “President Obama will keep the broken promises made by President Bush to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. He and Vice President Biden will take steps to ensure that the federal government will never again allow such catastrophic failures in emergency planning and response to occur.” They also take a shot at the Bush administration on military contracts. They will “develop a strategy for determining when contracting makes sense, rather than continually handing off governmental jobs to well-connected companies.”

For further proof of how bipartisanship and tolerance will work under Democratic rule, just read the news, hot off the presses, of Connecticut Democrats demanding an apology from Sen. Joe Lieberman for criticizing and failing to support Obama.

As events of the past week have shown, liberals are every bit as bad at winning as they are at losing.

“Islamic Fundamentalism, Coming to a City Near You” by Jeff Schreiber

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Here’s how it’s going to happen:

First, at some point this year, the home for enemy combatants currently in use at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba will be shuttered pursuant to the executive order signed today by President Obama, and the terrorists and sworn enemies of the United States held there will be transferred from the detention facility in Raul and Fidel Castro’s backyard to a detention facility in yours.

Then, with help of funding secured from various sources by groups like the Council for American Islamic Relations, the ACLU, and the Arab-American Action Network–the latter founded and operated by long-time Obama friend and associate Rashid Khalidi–many of these detainees will retain top-notch, left-leaning defense attorneys and, due to a technicality in the way the detainee was captured, or a problem with the change in legal status from enemy combatant to God-knows-what, or some obscure violation of the Federal Rules of Evidence, these sworn enemies to western civilization will walk. Perhaps onto American soil, as most of their home countries understandably don’t want them back.

Far-fetched? Hardly. In fact, this scenario took two steps–leaps, really–toward reality today, first when Barack Obama signed the executive order despite lacking a concrete plan on where the detainees were to go, and again when Pennsylvania Rep. John Murtha told reporters that, sure, he’d be prepared to welcome the terrorists in his own district.

“They’re no more dangerous in my district than in Guantanamo,” said Murtha, a former Marine who just last summer blasted U.S. Marines currently serving in Iraq, calling them “murderers.”

So, as far as Murtha is concerned, our own Marines are dangerous and murderous — but actual Islamic terrorists caught in the act of attempting to kill Americans are somehow so innocuous that, sure thing, he’d welcome them to the very part of western Pennsylvania where hijacked Flight 93 crashed on September 11, 2001? While it’s doubtful that Murtha finds the detainees completely harmless, he did add when talking to reporters today that he sees “no reason not to put ’em in prisons in the United States and handle them the way they would handle any other prisoners.”

Nobody on Capitol Hill or in the various newsrooms across the country seem to understand that these people are not innocent goatherders, they weren’t just nabbed by lazy American soldiers while delivering falafel sandwiches to caves and training facilities along the Afghani border. Nobody gets it. And, as a result, the clock is now ticking on Obama’s first executive order, and the only plan in place for the future of our sworn enemies is to distribute them among an American prison population filled with burglars, carjackers, and run-of-the-mill crack addicts. No reason to treat them any differently, Jack? Just thinking of that crisp, clear Tuesday morning in September, seven years ago, I can think of about three thousand.

Furthermore, if it wasn’t enough that Murtha showed he is willing to put the safety of his constituents and security of his nation at risk for no other reason than hoping he can secure taxpayer money for the construction of a new prison in his district, the most disgusting thing that happened in Washington, D.C. today was the signing of the executive order itself. Here we are, still only about 48 hours into Barack Obama’s presidency, and he is already disregarding perhaps his most important duty as president of the United States — to keep the American people safe.

America, today, is less safe than it was yesterday. Obama’s new executive order sends a clear message to Islamic fundamentalists everywhere that America doesn’t take its security seriously, a message which will undoubtedly foster much of the same reaction from Muslim terrorists worldwide that we saw from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in the courtroom last year — grinning out of disbelief that the very people whose throats he would still cut in an instant were actually stupid enough to allow him a trial.

Even worse, the closure of Gitmo wasn’t the only thing on Obama’s mind today. Showing complete naivete and displaying unfounded confidence that Hamas, fresh off what it insists was a victory, would of course do the right thing and not continue to smuggle Qassam rockets–if not something devastatingly worse–into the Gaza Strip, he asked Israel to open its borders in a show of faith in the possibility of lasting peace. Here in the States, he also issued orders that all agencies immediately stop use of any so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques” and only use those authorized in the U.S. Army Field Manual (in other words, be nice and maybe these folks might be nice right back and tell us where the roadside bomb is), and that the CIA shutter, “as expeditiously as possible,” any secret overseas facilities used for interrogation and detention. Obama’s goal was that we comply, immediately and unequivocally, with Common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention, which enjoins any “humiliating” or “degrading” treatment of prisoners.

In doing all of this, Obama cited the need for America to take the “high moral ground.” The new president, like so many on the left side of the political aisle, are obsessed with how America is perceived by those overseas, and this shows that they will stop at nothing, including putting American people at risk here at home, to burnish that perception as best possible.

It’s one thing to desire “high moral ground,” but it is another thing altogether to explain it as policy to the widowed wife and fatherless children of a businessman killed in the next terrorist attack on American soil. Similarly, it’s wonderful and nice to use the coffee-and-donuts approach to interrogation, an approach grounded in a tiptoe-through-tulips, feel-good effort to avoid anything which could be reasonably seen as humiliation or degradation, but what happens when only a little pressure could have garnered information needed to save innocent American lives?

How can President Barack Obama honestly argue that he is doing everything in his power to keep America secure and Americans safe? Will he still tout that “high moral ground” when we’re burying dead American children six feet beneath it after former Gitmo detainees, fresh off their release on a technicality from the shiny new prison in Murtha’s district, decide to repeat a Beslan-type attack on American soil?

“High moral ground” means absolutely nothing to a man willing to strap explosives to his chest and kill himself in a Manhattan coffee shop. “High moral ground” means absolutely nothing to those who sawed off the heads of Nick Berg and Daniel Pearl, or those who burned captured American soldiers to death before dragging their charred, lifeless bodies through the streets and dangling them from a bridge.

We’re not fighting against uniformed soldiers of old here; these aren’t the kind of people who lay down their weapons and meet at the center of a snow- and blood-covered Belgian battlefield for a Christmas dinner celebration before returning to the rifles and the mortars and the trenches in time for sun-up. These people aren’t looking to push back our borders or plunder a town; they wake up every morning from dreams of our destruction — and slowly but surely, in the name of political correctness and “high moral ground,” we’re going to hand them our own severed, infidel heads on a silver platter.

Barack Obama’s ultimate job as the American president is to keep the American people safe from harm. It isn’t to curry favor of those abroad. It isn’t to appease hopeless idealists and champions of political correctness on the left. His duty is plain and simple — keep us safe. Today, he breached that duty, and smiled and shook hands in the process.

Levitt: Banks Will Be Nationalized

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

This is the worst possible solution to our current financial problems!!

Some experts have argued that U.S. banks should be nationalized.

Arthur Levitt, a former Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chairman goes a step farther: He says our banks will be nationalized.

“The whole question of ringing banks, of having good banks and bad banks doesn’t make sense. Clearly we’re moving toward nationalizing banks,” Levitt, a senior advisor to private equity firm Carlyle Group, told Bloomberg TV,

The government has to choose winners and losers among the banks, Levitt says. “Nothing less will work.”

That’s not the favored policy of the Obama administration, but “it’s being pushed toward that,” he says. “The whole idea of forcing banks to lend is a populist notion. To whom are they going to lend? I don’t think there’s demand from borrowers out there.”

The government can’t force banks to lend, Levitt says. “At most, the government can jawbone.”

Levitt sees the regulatory structure changing radically.

“There is no longer a brokerage industry for the SEC to regulate,” he says. “The SEC and the CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission) are likely to be merged.”

Levitt fears over-regulation. “You can’t carry this too far,” he says. “Businesses already are choked by lack of funds. You can’t choke them more with regulations.”

Stock price declines make nationalization more likely, note others.

While bank nationalization is a last resort, “that last resort doesn’t seem so far removed at this point, particularly because of valuations,” James Smith, chief executive of Webster Financial Corp. in Waterbury, Conn., told The Wall Street Journal.

Watch The Ad Showing ‘Unaborted Obama’ in the Womb

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

A pro-life ad is celebrating President Barack Obama’s mother’s decision not to abort the first black American president, and the video has already caught the attention of more than 200,000 viewers.

The commercial begins with an ultrasound image of a baby moving in his mother’s womb.

“This child’s future is a broken home,” it says.

“He will be abandoned by his father.”

“His single mother will struggle to raise him.”

“Despite the hardships, he will endure,” the ad states. “This child will become the first African American president.”

It features a photo of President Obama and concludes, “Life. Imagine the potential.”

The ad comes just as a number of events are scheduled in Washington to mark the 36th anniversary of the 1972 U.S. Supreme Court Roe vs. Wade opinion that struck down state restrictions on abortion, essentially installing that “right” in the Constitution.

The promotion is sponsored by, a faith-based educational program. The organization website states that it launched its “Life: Imagine the Potential” campaign “to reach Americans who are either indifferent, or who have not yet thought about the great potential of every human life.”

President Obama’s agenda regarding “reproductive choice” has been posted on the White House website.

It states, Obama “has been a consistent champion of reproductive choice and will make preserving women’s rights under Roe v. Wade a priority in his Adminstration.”

More Media ‘Fawning’ Furing Inauguration

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

This is certainly no surprise to me. I have been very harsh (and rightly so) on the media for their continued bias in favor of a political pundit. They have collectively lost all regard for objectivity and are really nothing more than President Obama’s “Department of Propaganda”.

“An ABC reporter talked about how in spite of the fact that it was a cold day, the national pride can make a freezing day feel warmer…[and that] even the seagulls must have been awed by the blanket of humanity,” Noyes shares.

“Andrea Mitchell on NBC talked about how the mass of flickering cell phone cameras on the Mall seemed like stars shining back at Barack Obama. [And] ABC Nightline called it America the Beautiful.”

“Tom Brokaw referred to Dick Cheney [who was] in the wheelchair because of a pulled muscle as looking like Dr. Strangelove,” says the MRC spokesman. “You had Chris Matthews talking about how the Bush family leaving town was like the Romanovs fleeing the Communist revolution of 1917. And of course, the Romanovs were executed when they fled the communists.”

Change We Never Imagined

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Not to toot my own horn, but I not only imagined it, I knew it was going to happen. I must admit that I thought it would take him more than one day to get it announced, but I knew it was coming.

Lynchburg, VA – Literally within minutes after President Obama took the oath of office yesterday, the official White House webpage was updated – under the heading of “Civil Rights” – to detail Obama’s wholesale “support for the LGBT (homosexual activist) community.” His stated plans include the following:

  • Defeating all state and federal constitutional efforts to defend the millennia-old definition of natural marriage;
  • Repealing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) signed by Bill Clinton – the only line of defense keeping all 50 states from being forced to recognize so-called “same-sex marriages” from extremely liberal states like Massachusetts and Connecticut;
  • Repealing the military’s “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy;
  • Passing constitutionally dubious and discriminatory “hate crimes” legislation, granting homosexuals and cross dressers special rights – denied other Americans – based on changeable sexual behaviors;
  • Passing the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) which would force business owners (religious and otherwise) to abandon traditional values relative to sexual morality under penalty of law; and,
  • Creating intentionally motherless and fatherless homes and sexually confusing untold thousands of children by expanding “gay adoption.”

Matt Barber, Director of Cultural Affairs with both Liberty Alliance Action and Liberty Counsel, released the following statement today in response to Obama’s stated pro-homosexual agenda:

“Well, the high-sheen veneer and ‘cult of personality’ euphoria surrounding Barack Obama looks to be dissolving rather quickly. While millions had hoped for a political ‘messiah,’ it’s rapidly becoming evident that, instead, we’ve stuck ourselves with an extreme leftist ideologue whose brand of ‘change we can believe in’ is, in reality, ‘change we never imagined.’

“For all the talk of ‘hope,’ ‘change’ and ‘coming together,’ it’s becoming abundantly clear that Barack Obama’s administration will likely be the most leftist, divisive and discriminatory in recent memory. I suspect the immediate, stark and ‘in your face’ changes made to the White House website are a metaphor for what we can expect, in terms of policy, from his administration.

“The gravity of this situation cannot be overstated. Right out of the shoot, Obama has told the world that he is signing off, without exception, on every demand of the extremist homosexual and transsexual lobbies. The radical homosexual agenda and religious and free speech liberties cannot occupy the same space. It’s a zero-sum game. When 1 – 2 percent of the population is granted special rights based on deviant sexual proclivities and changeable sexual behaviors, to the detriment of everyone else, that’s called tyranny of the minority. People of faith and those of you with traditional values: hold on to your hats – it’s going to be a bumpy four years,” concluded Barber.

“That Concludes the Evil Deception” by Jennifer Rast

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

The coronation ceremony is over, and it looks like American Idol was more popular with many Americans. It was the most watched inauguration since Reagan, but Reagan still got far more viewers. You’d think Obama could grab the idol worshippers in droves, being the Messiah and all.

Many Obama worshipers, and of course the MSM, were offended by hearing the name Jesus uttered in public, because, apparently, a prayer is not inclusive if it is directed at the majority of Americans who are Christians. Prayers not including any mention of Christianity are, however, considered inclusive, and far less offensive to moonbat ears.

Some attending the inauguration didn’t need the prayers, though. They felt the presence of God the minute The One stepped up to the microphone. One such attendee gushed, “You Feel God is Speaking to You“, when asked about her experience.

The experience of one foreign correspondent wasn’t quite that Grand. He dubbed Obama’s acceptance speech his “worst ever“. Could this be the beginning of actual criticism for the anointed one? Or, is this gentleman, perhaps, just not enlightened enough to understand the nuanced approach of our benevolent community organizer in chief?

The Biden gaff machine is just warming up, and Obama’s very first phone call this morning was to the President of the Palestinian Authority, not our ally Israel. I’m sure he was simply beginning his magic dialogue that will convince all Arabs to be more discrete about pushing Israel into the sea. Iran can’t wait to have it’s face to face with The One to discuss throwing Israel under the bus. Just O’s presence in the Oval Office led Israel to remove all troops from Gaza, so I’madinnerjacket needs to have Obama part the Red Sea, since their weapons smuggling tunnels are now toast.

Meanwhile, the BDS enraged left took time out from the Messiah’s big day to deface a Bush Memorial. Isn’t that a federal crime? I’m sure it was done in the spirit of bipartisanship, and they were only emphasizing that the change has come.

It’s going to be a long two years, and we’ll probably see a few terrorist attacks. At least we won’t have another Kennedy spouting off in Congress.

Obama Blows Off Medal of Honor Recipients

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

I didn’t figure he would choose to hang out with the military when he could rub elbows with his liberal supporters and get lots of good press for his efforts.

According to TSO who was at the “Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball”, this newly sworn-in President for the first time in 56 years blew off the ball (that’s 14 Inaugurations).

Some background on the ball;

The American Legion sponsors the ball, which recognizes recipients of Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award. It started in 1953 for President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s first inauguration.

Event co-sponsors include 13 other veterans service organizations, among them the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Bionic Hand Gives Student New Lease on Life

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

This is too cool!!

A student who lost his left hand in an accident three years ago has been fitted with the world’s most sophisticated prosthetic limb.

Evan Reynolds, 19, took only minutes to learn how to manipulate the i-LIMB, which is operated by tiny sensors resting against his arm muscles.

With his new hand he can now pick up a paper cup filled with water, peel a carrot or walk down the street eating chips, all activities he could only dream about before.

The $15,000 i-LIMB was developed by the Scottish company Touch Bionics and Reynolds is only the second person in the U.K. to be fitted with one. Unlike previous prosthetics, the hand can tell how tightly it is gripping, allowing the user a large degree of control.

Reynolds, a sports biology student at University of the West of England, was in a friend’s car hanging his hand out of the window when it was taken off by a wooden gate post. His life was saved by his quick-thinking friends who applied a tourniquet and stopped him bleeding to death but the accident wrecked his dreams of joining the British Army.

The i-LIMB was introduced in 2007 and has won awards for its innovative technology. About 450 people, most in the United States, have been fitted with the prosthetic hand so far. Reynolds said it has given him a new lease on life.

“The accident was very nasty. My hand was amputated in a second,” he said.

“After the accident I’d resigned myself to never being able to use it again. But it truly has changed my life. It truly is incredible.”

Each finger of the i-LIMB is controlled by its own individual motors allowing a much more sensitive grip than previous prosthetics, which were limited to a claw-like action. It is fitted to the stump with a socket that contains the rechargeable battery and sensors that detect currents in the muscles which would have controlled the hand.

”It’s so sensitive I can grip a bottle of water or a paper cup without crushing it and even swing a racket,” Reynolds said.

”All I have to do is imagine picking something up or gripping it and the fingers and thumb move automatically.”

Gay Mayor’s Teen Sex Affair to Be Investigated

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

PORTLAND, Oregon– The state’s attorney general agreed Wednesday to investigate claims made by the mayor of Portland that he lied to cover up a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old boy.

Portland Mayor Sam Adams admitted this week that he lied to cover up his relationship with a teenage legislative intern because a potential mayoral candidate had spread rumors that Adams had sex with a minor.

Adams, who is 45, said the teen was 17 when they met in 2005, and that the relationship did not turn sexual until the boy turned 18. He said he lied because he was afraid voters wouldn’t believe that his young lover had turned 18 before they started having sex.

Adams became mayor on New Year’s Day, making Portland the largest U.S. city with an openly gay mayor.

Oregon Attorney General John Kroger agreed to an investigation after Multnomah County District Attorney Michael Schrunk and Portland police Chief Rosie Sizer asked Kroger to look into the affair.

Also on Wednesday, three Portland newspapers and the city police union called for Adams to resign.

Adams had said he would resign if staying was not in the city’s best interest.

The publisher and editorial board of Just Out, a newspaper serves the gay and lesbian community, said in a statement that “Adams has failed to show the principled character that this publication feels is a basic requirement for an elected official.”

“Right now one of the big things we in government need is credibility with the public,” Schrunk told The Oregonian, another newspaper calling for Adams to resign. The police chief said it would be inappropriate for her department to investigate the mayor.

City commissioner Nick Fish said the commissioners met Wednesday and joined the request for an investigation by the attorney general. They decided to withhold comment until that investigation was completed.

“This is clearly a distraction, but people need to know we are getting work done,” Fish said.

Unless Adams bows to pressure and resigns or there is evidence of a crime, he will remain in office for the first half of 2009 because state law bars any mayoral recall until after six months.

As the mercury precipitously dropped, demonstrators from the Coalition For Peace organization braved the biting cold and sub freezing temperatures in the nation’s capitol on January 20th in order to send a clear message to President Barack Hussein Obama on his inauguration day. With calls to “protect the free world from radical Islam”, the 30 demonstrators staged a peaceful protest in Lafayette Park, directly across the street from the White House. The Coalition For Peace is a nascent movement comprised of Hindu, Jewish and Christian organizations who are sounding a clarion call to the western world of the imminent dangers that jihadists represent.

Spearheaded by Satya Dosapati of the Hindu Human Rights Watch and Arish K. Sahani of the Indian American Intellectuals Forum, the Coalition For Peace has brought their message to the proscenium of the political arena by forging alliances with Jewish and Christian organizations; who have firsthand knowledge of the baneful and pernicious ideology of radical Islam.

Coalition for Peace

Since the announcement of the protest rally, such organizations as the Zionist Organization of America, Americans For a Safe Israel, the Jewish Action Alliance, Christians’ Israel Public Action Campaign, Christians and Jews United For Israel and the Maccabean Resistance Movement have stepped forward and endorsed this event. Events leading up to the Inauguration Day protest included a meeting of both Jewish and Hindu community leaders that took place in a private residence in Highland Park on Sunday, January 18th. Representatives of the Jewish Community Relations Council were also present as members discussed the political and religious commonalities of the two communities and explored avenues of cooperation in working towards embracing tolerance and celebrating diversity.

Mr. Dosapati, an erudite and voluble spokesman addressed the assemblage on the dangers of Islamic extremism and how it impacts on both communities. “In the name of world peace, we must call upon our new president to reform radical Islamist madrassas so that these schools stop teaching hate. Jews and other “infidels” are referred to as apes and pigs and other chilling epidemiological metaphors that are reminiscent of Nazi incitement”, he ruefully observed. In a reference to the 9/11 attacks Mr. Dosapati asserted that the free world must demand that “Saudi Arabian assets must be seized in order to pay for the Islamists’ crimes against humanity” and on the subject of the vitriolic hubris being incessantly spewed forth by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he said, “Iran must be forced to halt its nuclear weapons program that has directly threatened Israel. Right now, Iran is engaging in a proxy war against Israel by bankrolling its chief surrogates, namely Hamas and Hezbollah.”

Concerning the heinous slaughter that was perpetrated against Indians and Jews in the recent Mumbai massacre, he stated, “We must recognize that Pakistan has played a double-game with the US; presenting itself as a friendly ally of America, while, at the same time, hosting terrorists who are plotting to murder all non-Muslims, especially targeting their next door neighbors in India.”

Coalition for Peace

Carrying signs and placards saying, “Protect Israel From Rocket Attacks”, “Our Demand For Gas Indirectly Funds Hamas and Hezbollah”, “Denuclearize Iran and Pakistan”, “Protect India From Terrorist Attacks”, and “Stop the Islamic Conquest of The Promised Land” the protestors, mainly composed of Hindus from the Central New Jersey area along with a cadre of exceptionally devoted Christians and several Jews gathered in Lafayette Park and raised their collective voices in outrage and indignation against a “multiculturalist relativism” that gives free license to forces of evil as manifested in radical Islam.

“Islamist terrorism is a problem not just for Israel and India, but for the entire Free World. It is also a problem for Muslims who yearn for freedom of thought, as opposed to the tyranny imposed on them by Islamist theology,” said Narain Kataria, of Queens, one of the organizers of the protest. The demonstrators argue that radical, political Islam, fueled by oil revenues, “is nothing short of a threat to humanity and freedom of thought. It is absolutely essential for the US, the world’s only Super power to take the lead in exterminating terrorism from the face of the earth. Mr. Obama, yes, you can,” said Mr. Kataria.

Coalition for Peace

The demonstrators point out that the same ideology that led to the terrorism that struck Mumbai in November and during the last ten years resulted in the murder of some 18,000 Indians (in 60,000 terror incidents), has plagued Israel for decades. The same ideology that threatens to wipe out Israel has been brutal to minorities in Islamic countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh where in the last 60 years the minority population was reduced from 25% to 1% in Pakistan and 30% to 7% in Bangladesh.

Linda Rivera, a Christian supporter of Israel and staunch advocate of eradicating Islamic terrorism said, “We cannot forget the 3.5 million Christians slaughtered by the Jihad in the Sudan. We cannot forget the fact that coptic priests and other Christian clergy has been murdered by Islamic fanatics. It is imperative to remain cognizant of the fact that Jihadists would love nothing more than to force every non-Muslim to live under the draconian Sharia Law where basic human rights will be expunged.”

Richard Hellman of the Christians’ Israel Public Action Campaign, the largest Christian pro-Israel lobby group on Capitol Hill made his presence known at the demonstration by stating, “We support peace, justice and freedom in the Middle East and as such we work assiduously in Congress to lobby against a two-state solution, the fallacious concept of “land for peace” as the panacea for Israeli-Palestinian tensions and we work to abrogate the any “road map to a purported peace” that will see Israel engaging in any more territorial compromises.”

Coalition for Peace

Sandra and Ed Warmoth of the Maccabean Resistance Movement and the Builders of Zion organization traveled from Orlando, Florida to attend. “The world must understand that the Islamist hegemony is an obdurate and implacable enemy of freedom. Jerusalem and the entire Promised Land is under attack by Arab-Muslim forces fighting an Islamic war by proxy under the guise of “Palestinian self-determination. The “Palestinan” myth began taking root after 1967 as a means to garner world support for the Islamic goal of ridding the Middle East of the Jewish Nation. It is a way of eradicating Israel through propaganda because the Arab-Muslim bloc has failed to accomplish their collective goal militarily. Over the years, this propaganda, along with the weapons of oil and terrorism, has been increasingly securing international support, including support at the highest levels of the United States government.’, they said.

Matt Abelson, 28, of Manhattan said, “As a Jew, I’ve come here to join this coalition with the Hindus and Christians not because, ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’ but because we have a commonality of cultures. We are peace seeking peoples who wish to live in a world with mutual respect for one another and the forces of radical Islam represent the complete antithesis of this concept.”

Coalition for Peace

Incensed by the lack of a formidable Jewish presence at the protest, one person who wished to remain anonymous declared, “What I’m totally outraged about is that at this demonstration has a pitiful Jewish turnout. The Christians and Hindus are here pleading the case for Israel, speaking truth in the face of slander directed at Israel and none of the Jewish organizations who ostensibly endorsed this protest are here. Where are the members of the ZOA, of AFSI, of the Jewish Action Alliance? Are these organizations only paper tigers, are they moribund remnants of Jewish activism? They knew of this important demonstration and yet they are not here. This is beyond shameful.”

The protestors eventually left their stations behind the iron fences that surrounded them in Lafayette Park and took their banners and signs out in the street where scores of inauguration attendees and onlookers looked with curiosity to the demonstrators. Most appeared unaware of the issues presented on the signs, others seemed bewildered, while yet others perceived them as an inauguration novelty and stopped to take photographs. There were some who queried the protestors and engaged in spirited and sometimes bellicose debate, while others muttered imprecations under their breath. Said Jim Melton, 58, a self described liberal, “Can anyone blame the Palestinians in Gaza for launching “fire crackers” in to Israel? After all, Israel started this conflict by closing off the border crossings in to Gaza and causing a horrific humanitarian crisis. The wholesale slaughter of innocent Palestinian civilians; women and children in a UN school was deplorable and Israel should be charged in an international court with war crimes.”

In response to Melton’s comments one parade attendee who was in earshot of what he said commented that “the irony of it all is that the calumnies being promulgated against Israel by the Saudi owned US media, prompts someone like him who is obviously abysmally ignorant of the truth to make such comments. That is exactly why these protestors are here today; to set the record straight; to debunk these egregious myths about Israel and I applaud their efforts.”

Freedom of Speech Dead in the Netherlands

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

The freedom of speech is truly dead in the Netherlands. Who is the murderer who killed free speech, you might ask? You don’t need Interpol for this case; the perpetrator is none other than Islam, the so-called peaceful and tolerant Muslims.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands — A right-wing lawmaker should be prosecuted for inciting racial hatred with anti-Islamic statements that include calling the Koran a “fascist book,” a Dutch court ruled Wednesday.

Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders made headlines around the world in March 2008 with his film “Fitna,” which juxtaposed Koranic verses against a background of violent film clips and images of terrorism by Islamic radicals.

In 2007, Wilders called for a ban on the Koran “the same way we ban ‘Mein Kampf.”‘ He said both Adolf Hitler’s work and the Muslim holy book contain passages that contradict Western values.

The Amsterdam Appeals Court called Wilders’ statements in his film, newspaper articles and media interviews “one-sided generalizations … which can amount to inciting hatred.”

The court’s ruling reverses a decision last year by the public prosecutor’s office that said Wilders’ film and interviews were painful for Muslims but not criminal.

Wilders told Dutch media it was a “black day for myself and for freedom of speech.”

The decision set the stage for what will likely be a highly charged trial touching on the declining Dutch tolerance toward a large immigrant population from Muslim countries, mainly Morocco and Turkey. Dutch attitudes shifted markedly after the 2004 murder of filmmaker Theo van Gogh by a radical Dutch Muslim.

Wilders, whose party has nine lawmakers in the 120-seat lower house of Dutch Parliament, has built his popularity largely on tapping into fear and resentment among Dutch voters of Muslim immigrants.

“I’ve had enough of Islam in the Netherlands; let not one more Muslim immigrate,” he wrote once in national newspaper De Volkskrant. “I’ve had enough of the Koran in the Netherlands: Forbid that fascist book.”

The three judges said they had weighed Wilders’ anti-Islamic rhetoric against his right to free speech, and ruled he had even gone beyond the normal leeway given to politicians.
