Paul and Silas in Prison

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.

When the owners of the slave girl realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities. They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice.”

The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten. After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. Upon receiving such orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody’s chains came loose. The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!”

Paul and Silas in Prison

The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were baptized. The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole family.

When it was daylight, the magistrates sent their officers to the jailer with the order: “Release those men.” The jailer told Paul, “The magistrates have ordered that you and Silas be released. Now you can leave. Go in peace.”

But Paul said to the officers: “They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out.”

The officers reported this to the magistrates, and when they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they were alarmed. They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city. After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia’s house, where they met with the brothers and encouraged them. Then they left.

“Channel the Anger Taking to the Streets into a Force for Conservative Change” by Terry Paulson

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

On April 15th, we interrupted my vacation in Tahoe to participate in a rousing tax-day tea party in Carson City, Nevada. We joined over two thousand souls who were tired of watching President Obama chip away daily at our individual liberties and bankrupt the country we love. To the dismay of liberals and their mainstream media supporters, Americans showed up in the tens of thousands across the United States. These were no parties of the rich gathering in their finery for fundraising tea parties. These were average Americans coming together to take a stand for individual liberty! In doing so, they came face to face with a reassuring reality—they were not alone!

The media coverage underestimated the numbers and focused their video segments to reinforce the stereotypes it loves to convey—just a bunch intellectually-challenged, gun-supporting, abortion-hating extremists. To be sure there were signs of protest against gun control and abortions, but what came together was a cross-section of America. It was laughable when one ABC correspondent reported that those attending were a “front for corporate interests.” They would have rather tar and feathered any executive now living in the lap of luxury as a result of tax-funded bailouts.

To the left-leaning media, it was good for the country when people went to the streets by the thousands in support of Obama’s “hope and change.” They all but passed out palm leaves to wave at their ”messiah” and let supporter after supporter extol his virtues without a single challenging question.

Now, to support their liberal “savior” in the face of critical demonstrators, they worked overtime to turn those gathered at the tea parties into aberrant extremists. Watching CNN correspondent Susan Roesgen rudely interrupt and attack one of the protestors for his views and slam the event for being “anti-government,” “anti-CNN,” and “not really family viewing,” was all one needed to understand how embarrassingly biased mainstream political media coverage has become.

After seeing a large demonstration, one moderate friend asked, “That was amazing to watch! When do you get that many people out demonstrating when it isn’t even an election year?” It’s easy to explain! These Americans know what President Obama’s rapid race to socialism means to America’s future, and they realize that the time for action is now.

Whether those who elected him to office can see what is happening, the euphoric cult of personality that helped get Obama elected is giving way to the realistic fear that our economy and our country is sinking into the quicksand Obama and his friends are creating. The president and his family are easy to like as people, but it’s the future he’s creating that more and more Americans fear.

The tea parties gave Americans an opportunity to voice those concerns. Signs were everywhere. Here are some of my favorite slogans and a quick comment I can’t resist adding:

Free markets not free loaders! You don’t build a stronger economy by punishing the productive and funding those in our midst who would rather be dependent than free. Free markets are painful at times, but they still work better than big government interventions and runaway entitlements.

When Obama runs out of rich people to tax, he’ll be coming after YOU! You can take all the money from the top 5% wealthy Americans and it wouldn’t pay for the debts and entitlements Obama is creating. The rest of the taxpayers and our children are next.

Barney Frank—Bernie Madoff…And the Difference Is? Obama’s blamed Bush, greedy business executives and lack of regulatory oversight, but he keeps forgetting to include Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and all those Democrats who created the push for unwise loans that greed could use, took campaign funds and vehemently resisted Republican efforts to increase regulatory oversight over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Don’t take my money; take my work ethic! What Americans need are not more bailouts that reward failure—we need more tough love and a return to self-reliance and true community support.

Time to read the bill before you sign it. Speed is not a virtue when you are spending taxpayer money and creating deficits that will bankrupt America. Obama campaigned on transparency, but he’s governed with a blind “Father Knows Best” paternalism on steroids. When the blind lead the blind in Washington, watch your wallet.

Honk if you don’t want your tax dollars spent on illegal aliens! It’s a big “YES” for Immigrants who make the American mosaic rich and strong. It’s a resounding “NO” to illegal immigrants who take jobs and services taxpayers have pay for. Go home and help transform your own country.

Stop spending my grandson’s future. Most parents are upset when you take their money, but when you pass budgets and programs that will saddle their children and grandchildren with debts that will bankrupt them, they’ll fight with everything they have until their dying breath!

Read my lipstick—Give me my money and keep the change! Every improvement is the result of change, but not all changes are improvements. Obama’s changes are producing a man-made disaster for America far worse than global warming!

Simply with Fair Tax—Tax consumption not production! Your definition of simplifying taxes means fewer and fewer Americans will be paying more and more of the taxes. Unite us by treating us all the same—trade income taxes for a consumption tax where you exempt necessities and then everyone pays the same fair share on everything they consume!

Attention Washington: You have run out of our money! The piggy bank is empty, and you want to keep adding programs. We can’t afford the entitlements we already have. Public employee pension costs are bankrupting many cities. States are increasing every tax they can find to avoid default. Businesses are folding or leaving. Foreign governments are not jumping to fund our debt because they no longer trust our future either. It’s time to say NO to more spending and entitlements!

‘How Hate Crimes Laws Forced Me Into Exile’

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Many people believe this type of thing can’t happen in the U.S. I used to hang on to that dream, but I no longer do. I see a time when Christians will be prosecuted for preaching the Bible. This type of law is only the precursor.

Julio Severo, a prominent Brazilian pro-family activist, has been forced into exile because of the “hate crimes” laws that are being implemented in his native land, perhaps providing a preview of what Christians can expect in the United States should similar “hate crimes” proposals be implemented.

And several organizations are reporting Congress could begin adopting measures similarly draconian to Brazil’s as early as this week.

“It is imperative that we contact all members of the House and demand that they vote against this bill as it will not protect a pastor, Bible teacher, Sunday School teacher, youth leader or anyone else from prosecution if he or she teaches against homosexuality if an individual who hears their message then goes out and commits a crime against a homosexual,” wrote Pastor Rick Scarborough of Vision America Action, which as a website link to make that contact.

“Hate crimes laws that include sexual orientation are a bad idea, because they elevate homosexuality to the same status as race and do nothing to prevent violent crimes. All crimes are motivated by hate,” said Mathew Staver, chief of Liberty Counsel, which also is alerting people to the congressional plans.

“Hate crimes laws will not be used to punish the perpetrators but will be used to silence people of faith, religious groups, clergy, and those who support traditional moral values,” Staver said.

Severo reports he was forced to flee his homeland after federal prosecutors there recently charged him with “homophobia’ for his statements about the nation’s “Gay” Parade in 2006.

Get “The Marketing of Evil: How Radicals, Elitists, and Pseudo-Experts Sell Us Corruption Disguised as Freedom”

Severo told WND that while Brazil does not criminalize Christianity, it does regulate what biblical principles can and cannot be preached, and it bans biblical citations that disapprove of the homosexual lifestyle.

“Brazil grants freedom to preach Christianity, provided that the sermons avoid negative mentions of state-protected behaviors and cultural trends,” Severo said. “The Brazilian government is establishing more and more categories of protected behaviors, banning negative mentions. So Brazilian preachers need to get updated on the latest political changes and preach a Gospel according to the state interests.”

He said, “Today it is risky to preach a complete Gospel in Brazil. Because of the diversity politics, you cannot say anything negative about witchcraft, especially when such practices are from Africa.”

He cited an example of what is happening.

“In Rio, a Pentecostal minister led a criminal to Jesus and convinced him to deliver himself to police. Rev. Isaías da Silva Andrade accompanied the former criminal to police and when they asked how his life had been changed, the minister answered that the former criminal lived under the influence of demons from Afro-Brazilian religions which inspired him to criminal conduct, but now he found salvation in Jesus. Because of this innocent account, Rev. Andrade is now being prosecuted for discrimination against the Afro-Brazilian ‘culture’! If condemned, he will serve between two and five years in jail,” Severo said.

Severo reported on his blog that prosecutors were working to find him by demanding his address from friends and acquaintances.

So he said he took matters into his own hands to protect himself and his family, as well as his friends, from further discrimination.

‘”I was forced to leave the country with my family: a wife in the advanced stages of pregnancy and two little children,” he reported on his blog. “We are now in a place that is completely foreign to us. What choice did we have?”

He said Brazil has no law stating that the broadly interpreted “homophobia” – a term used derogatorily against those who choose to follow biblical precepts and not endorse homosexuality – is illegal.

But he said case rulings show that it is considered a crime. In fact, he said Brazil is one of a growing number of countries cracking down on “homophobia.”

Severo said an influential homosexual activist attempted to publish his name and contact information, which he believes was an attempt to intimidate him. He said he became alarmed and concerned for his own safety and that of his family.

“Because of the fierce opposition of gay militants and their charges against me, I had limited freedom to appear openly in Brazil,” Severo said. “The most important homosexual leader in Brazil tried to publish my complete name, physical address and telephone number, in a stealth way of intimidating me. Yet, even now I have to be careful.”

WND has reported that the Obama administration has stated its dedication to strengthening “federal hate crimes legislation” and expanding “hate crimes protection.”

Gary Cass of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission was among those raising the warning of impending “hate crimes” legislation in the United States.

“One of the gravest threats to religious liberty and freedom of speech is proposed hate crime legislation. Even while national attention is focused is on the economy and Obama’s radical economic and foreign policy, the far left is at work undermining our First Amendment rights at home with hate crime legislation,” he said.

“In other countries where these types of laws have been implemented, pastors and Christians have been jailed and fined for their faithful adherence to the Scriptures,” he said.

He reported Barney Frank, an openly homosexual congressman, announced Thursday that the House Judiciary Committee will be considering “hate crimes” legislation, H.R. 1913, this week.

“Frank is expecting the committee to pass the bill which would leave it in the House to vote on later this spring, according to a news release issued by Barney Frank on his website last week,” Cass said.

As reported earlier by CADC, the bill, H.R. 1913, is named the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act. The bill already had 42 co-sponsors. The bill was introduced into the House on April 2 by U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

“All freedom loving Americans must voice their opposition to this bill. If this bill passes it lays the foundation for censoring Christians. In other countries, like in Canada and Sweden, where these types of hate crime laws have been implemented, pastors and Christians have been jailed and fined for their faithful adherence to biblical values,” he said.

Also raising the alarm was the Traditional Values Coalition, where Executive Director Andrea Lafferty said, “the so-called hate crimes bill will be used to lay the legal foundation and framework to investigate, prosecute and persecute pastors, business owners, Bible teachers, Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, Christian counselors, religious broadcasters and anyone else whose actions are based upon and reflect the truths found in the Bible.”

The organization warned based on a broad definition of “intimidation,” even “a pastor’s sermon could be considered ‘hate speech’ … if heard by an individual who then acts aggressively against persons based on any ‘sexual orientation.'”

The organization noted during markup of the plan in a 2007 committee hearing, Rep. Artur Davis, D-Ala., admitted that the law would not protect a pastor from prosecution.

Scarborough reported the U.S. plan is to be voted on in the House Judiciary Committee Wednesday.

“Hate crimes laws are actually ‘thought crimes’ laws that violate the right to freedom of speech and of conscience,” warned Liberty Counsel. “Hate crimes laws will have a chilling effect on people who have moral or religious objections to homosexual behavior. Evidence of a person’s beliefs will be used against any individuals who are even suspected of criminal activity.

“Hate crimes laws are unnecessary, as criminal laws already provide criminal penalties for the violent crimes,” the organization continued. “Additional penalties will subject individuals to scrutiny of their beliefs, rather than focusing on a person’s criminal actions, and will do nothing to prevent crime.”

Severo said, “If they wish to continue with their absurd acts against me for ‘homophobia,’ I state that I am no longer in Brazil. Leave my friends in peace.”

But that doesn’t mean people won’t hear from him.

“I will not be silenced. The voice that God gave me will continue to be used to alert Brazil, whether I am in India, Kenya, Nicaragua, or any other country in the world,” he said.

“In the Fray: The Battle for Marriage” by Harry R. Jackson, Jr.

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Anderson Cooper is one of the class acts on cable news. He is bright, personable, and very thorough as a journalist. Therefore, on occasion I will compare the coverage of major stories on CNN with both the network news outlets and Fox News. Although I have always liked Cooper’s personal style, I often disagree with his slant on the news.

As I flipped through the channels last Friday night, I was offended by the content of the show. It seemed to me that overt propaganda was masquerading as news on Cooper’s “360” show. As I have already stated, typically my concerns with Cooper are minor and I hardly ever resort to “fussing” at the screen. Well, this segment got me riled up.

Let’s start with the back story. Eleven-year old Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover was found hanging by an extension cord on the second floor of his Springfield home last week. His mother, Sirdeaner Walker, said that her son had been taunted and threatened by classmates at the New Leadership Charter School for weeks. Walker described how her 6th-grade son had been targeted by students, calling him “gay,” making fun of his clothing, and threatening to kill him. The mother had continually asked for school officials to step in to mediate on her son’s behalf every week over the course of the last six months.

In a recent incident, Walker said that a girl began to threaten Carl when had bumped a TV with his backpack, which in turn bumped into the girl.

Featuring Carl’s unfortunate death was appropriate. Sirdeaner Walker had no doubt hoped to give her son the best education money could buy. She concluded that the gay accusation was the straw that broke the camel’s back, causing the child to plummet into an emotional abyss. Ms. Walker said that the administration’s only attempt to solve the problem was to have Carl and the girl eat lunch together for a week – to try to dispel the conflict between them. But this obviously did not produce positive results.

When I heard about the death, I naturally empathized with the mother’s plight. Unfortunately, Cooper’s interview with the bereaved mom did not stay with the facts of the case. His producers seized the opportunity to preach the gospel of radical gay inclusion through out the program. As the program went on, I suddenly saw a familiar face – Mel White, director of SoulForce (a radical gay activist group). This organization has led sit-ins and protests in Bible schools and mega-churches around the country. In fact, Mel’s group came and worshiped at our church last Memorial Day. White immediately went into his typical song and dance. He accused mainstream, evangelical churches of preaching bigotry. Next, he blamed ministers for misinterpreting the scriptures, and stated unequivocally that the religious culture of the nation is most responsible for the prejudice against gay people.

All of those comments may have been appropriate, if evangelical or Catholic ministers had figured prominently in young Carl’s life. They did not. What ensued was a gross example of yellow journalism. White depicted this unfortunate hazing incident as though it were the most heinous hate crime since the beginning of the last century.

FBI Spied on Tea Parties

Message to the Federal Government – Don’t Tread on Me (Click Here to Learn More)

This is very scary if it’s true. Sorry this is so long, but I thought y’all needed to see it.

This is no joke. They want to scare us into submission. Where is our leadership?

FBI spied on TEA Party Americans hat tip Anne

Exclusive to the Northeast Intelligence Network & Canada Free Press

Douglas J. Hagmann, Director & Judi McLeod,

19 April 2009: Even as average Americans were planning to get out in towns and cities to demonstrate against Big Government and Big Taxes, Federal Bureau of Intelligence Investigation (FBI) surveillance was being unleashed upon them. In fact, unsuspecting Tax Day TEA Party participants were being closely watched during the demonstration planning stages in a covert operation that began on or about March 23, 2009.

If you one of the estimated 750,000 Americans who attended one of about 600 TEA parties last week, you might have seen media cameras covering the event. Media cameras, however, were not the only cameras taking video at these events, something that has at least one current FBI agent concerned over the future of America. According to this agent – the same agent who provided the Northeast Intelligence Network (NEIN) exclusively the unreleased photographs of the 11 missing Egyptian students who were the subject of a FBI BOLO in August 2006–placed his concerns for true patriots of the U.S. over his own career when he confided that covert surveillance was “planned and performed” at each of the TEA parties that took place last Tuesday.

“Listen to what I am saying,” stated the source during an interview with Doug Hagmann, founder (NEIN). “The Department of Homeland Security Intelligence Assessment that is receiving so much attention is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, and the true patriotic citizens of this country are on the Titanic. This is what bothers me. But is goes far beyond that assessment. There have been very significant changes made over the last few years that redirect the focus and assets of the intelligence community internally. These changes have greatly accelerated under this administration, and the threats have been redefined to include those who used to be patriots. It’s not only chilling but absolutely insulting to God-fearing Americans.”

According to this unimpeachable source, a single-page confidential directive issued by the FBI headquarters in Washington, DC (FBIHQ) was sent to each of the 56 field offices located across the United States on or about March 23, 2009, instructing the Special Agents in Charge (SACs) of those offices to verify the date, time and location of each TEA Party within their region and supply that information to FBI headquarters in Washington. The source stated this correspondence termed the TEA parties “political demonstrations,” and added that the dissemination of the directive was very tightly controlled. “Not all agents were privy to this correspondence,” stated the source, who compared the dissemination to an older “Do Not File” classification.

In addition to obtaining or confirming the location and time of each “demonstration,” each field office was instructed to obtain or confirm the identity of the individual(s) involved in the actual planning and coordination of the event in each specific region, and include the local or regional Internet web site address, if any. The information collected by region was then reportedly sent to FBI Headquarters.

The source alleges that a second directive was issued on or about April 6, 2009 that reportedly instructed each SAC to coordinate and conduct, either at the field office level and/or with the appropriate resident agency, covert video surveillance and data collection of the participants of the TEA parties. Surveillance was to be performed from “discreet fixed or mobile positions” and was to be performed “independently and outside of the purview of local law enforcement.”

Although the level of detail collected from each operation is unclear, the information was reportedly submitted to Washington, where, “at the level of the National Security Branch (NSB), this information was to “include the office of the Directorate of Intelligence (DI), and integrated with a restricted access database, one that reportedly is accessible to only two agencies” [of the 14 agencies that comprise the U.S. intelligence community, according to the source.

“The implications to the citizens of the U.S. are ominous. It seems that there is a hostile political agenda coming from Washington that characterizes the supporters of our constitutional freedoms as threats to our domestic security, which is totally absurd. The redirection, the refocusing of domestic threats from al Qaeda cells to ‘flag waving right-wingers’ is something that has gone from a murmur a few years ago to a roar today.”

Training government-issued cameras on ordinary citizens, many of whom brought their children to an estimated 600 Tax Day TEA Parties is a page torn out of George Orwell’s 1984 and makes the term “God Bless America” more meaningful than ever.

The Northeast Intelligence Network and Canada Free Press expect the government’s denial of the surveillance of the TEA Parties to go viral as soon as this story is posted.

Go read it all. This is not your mom’s America.

UPDATE Disgusting KAPO alert:Axelrod suggests ‘Tea Party’ movement is ‘unhealthy’ hat tip Randall

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Senior White House adviser David Axelrod on Sunday suggested the “Tea Party” movement is an “unhealthy” reaction to the tough economic climate facing the country.

Axelrod was asked on CBS’s “Face the Nation” about the “spreading and very public disaffection” with the president’s fiscal policies seen at the “Tea Party” rallies around the country last week.

“I think any time you have severe economic conditions there is always an element of disaffection that can mutate into something that’s unhealthy,” Axelrod said.

UPDATE: Lid reminds us:

First Amendment to the Constitution: Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Fourth Amendment to the Constitution: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Rick Saunders & Jeff Schreiber at America’s Right have this to say:

Yesterday, White House adviser David Axelrod suggested that the “TEA Party” phenomenon which started sweeping the country last week was an “unhealthy” reaction to tough economic times.

Given the leftist pedigree Axelrod flaunts, that statement should come as no surprise, if not an outright compliment to the many concerned Americans who took time off from work to voice their opinions. Regardless of how taken, it only further underscores the fundamental intellectual hostility toward America and Americans who love their country and Constitution recently demonstrated by folks like Axelrod, DHS Commandante Janet Napolitano and, of course, The Chosen One himself.

Those who attended these gatherings, or even merely supported them from the sidelines, were Americans from all walks of life who are simply trying to regain control of their government from hijackers who now seem bent on ransoming the Constitution and burdening present and future generations with taxes, debt and deficits which, according to Peter Orszag, Obama’s own budget guru (is he still employed there?) “are ultimately not sustainable.”

Apparently fearing that the arguments of these “rightwing domestic terrorists” will actually gain traction with the larger population, they are now being vilified–with the help of the propagandists and juvenile potty-mouths at CNN, MSNBC and other media outlets–as somehow constituting a threat to the nation. A more pathetic inversion of logic and deflection of responsibility for the current state of the union would be difficult to conceive. After all, one would think that an administration as narcissistic as the one now in office would at least have periodic occasion–say, hourly–to gaze into a mirror and see the truth, however dimly.

Ominously, Pamela Geller’s excellent Web blog, Atlas Shrugs, now reports that late last month, a confidential directive was issued by the FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C. to each of the 56 FBI field offices located across the United States instructing the Special Agents in Charge of those offices to verify the date, time and location of each Tea Party within their region and supply that information back to headquarters. More troublesome, the directive is asserted to have instructed each field office agent in charge to obtain or confirm the identity of the individuals involved in the actual planning and coordination of the events in each specific region, and include the local or regional Internet Web site address, if any. Could instructions to videotape the events and the attendees have also been included? The FBI has apparently neither confirmed nor denied the report, so whether it is accurate or not, only time will tell.

However, if true, know that when the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security begin instituting measures against everyday Americans that come straight out of 1984, you can bet the farm that something is rotten in D.C. Very rotten. It is bad enough that The Chosen One and his sycophants believe him to be new Messiah; it would be far worse if that status actually evolved into Big Brother and/or Big Brother-worship. The world has seen enough of that already.

This is absolutely chilling, and along with the underlying sentiments evidenced in the DHS assessment released last week, shows how much the tide has turned and just how quickly it has done so. American citizens simply concerned for the future of their nation, not to mention the future of their own children and grandchildren, are doing everything they can to make their opinions known, a critical component of a represenative republic like this one.

After all, for a republic like ours to function correctly, the representatives must truly be representing their constituents, and given the amount of reckless spending and damaging policy we’ve seen over the past 90 days alone, this is not a properly functioning republic.

Were similar FBI directives issued with regard to Code Pink rallies? For Lyndon LaRouche pamphlet-o-ramas? For the traveling throngs of the unshowered who followed former President Bush to nearly every appearance outside our nation’s capital? We certainly can hope so. Still, given the inequity with regard to how “rightwing extremists” and “leftwing activists” were treated in the DHS assessments, the chances are truly slim.

In the meantime, try not to think about how taxpayer dollars were spent on FBI surveillance of people who want the federal government to be more responsible with taxpayer dollars. That’s enough to make your head explode.

(NOTE: I spoke with Pam Geller this morning. Besides being a very nice woman–she and I share the honor of being on DHS’ list of right-wing extremists–she reiterated her confidence in her sourcing on this. These are indeed scary times we live in. — Jeff)

Carrie Prejean Says ‘God Was Testing My Faith’ With Gay Marriage Question

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

It’s nice to see her stand up for what she believes in, no matter how politically incorrect it may be.

Carrie Prejean is the most famous runner-up in Miss USA history.

In an exclusive interview with FOXNews.com’s Courtney Friel, Miss California says her phone has been ringing off the hook with people offering her support after she took on a question about gay marriage on Sunday night’s Miss USA telecast.

“I have no regrets about answering [judge Perez Hilton] honestly,” she said in one of her first interviews following the show, where she answered that she was against gay marriage becoming legal in California. “He asked me for my opinion and I gave it to him. I have nothing against gay people and I didn’t mean to offend anyone in my answer.”

In her interview, Prejean talks about being “tested” by God, the outpouring of support, and the first thing she and her family did after the show. (Hint, it involves ketchup and mustard.)

FOXNews.com: How are you feeling today?

Carrie Prejean: Honestly, happy. This happened for a reason. By having to answer that question in front of a national audience, God was testing my character and faith. I’m glad I stayed true to myself.

FOXNews.com: Have a lot of people been trying to get in touch with you?

Carrie Prejean: Yes, lots of phone calls. I’ve gotten over 500 facebook friend requests, hundreds of messages from people I don’t know, saying how proud of me they are that I stood my ground. That made me the real winner of the night.

FOXNews.com: Did your stomach sink when you first heard you picked Perez Hilton’s question?

Carrie Prejean: I had a gut feeling. I knew he was controversial, and so was the question. Out of all the topics I studied up on, I dreaded that one, I prayed I would not be asked about gay marriage. If I had any other question, I know I would have won.

FOXNews.com: Did you think right away your answer may have killed your chances of winning?

Carrie Prejean: Yeah, I thought I was going to be 4th runner up for sure. I was surprised I made it to first runner up!

FOXNews.com: Before “the question,” did you think you would win Miss USA?

Carrie Prejean: There was a lot of talk about me, people saying I was the frontrunner. During the whole two-week experience leading up to the pageant, I was very confident and relaxed. Not too nervous.

FOXNews.com: Were you sad you didn’t win? Did you go to the party afterwards, or go home and cry?

Carrie Prejean: No, I got together with my family. I ate my first hamburger in a long time!

FOXNews.com: Has the Miss Universe organization contacted you at all? What about your Miss California USA directors?

Carrie Prejean: I haven’t been told anything. I didn’t even see the Miss California directors after the pageant.

FOXNews.com: Are you upset that Perez Hilton called you a “b**ch” in his blog rant?

Carrie Prejean: Yes, but I have no regrets about answering honestly. He asked me for my opinion and I gave it to him. I have nothing against gay people, and I didn’t mean to offend anyone in my answer.

FOXNews.com: So what about Perez’s offer to take you out for coffee to “talk”?

Carrie Prejean: No comment!

“Thou Shall Not Question Barack Obama” by Austin Hill

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Perhaps they just don’t want to think through the details. Then again – – maybe some of them don’t have the capacity to think through the details.

I’m referring to the apparent plethora of partisan, passionate, “see-no-evil” Obama minions, who become outraged should any of the rest of us ask questions about the forty-fourth President.

I continually encounter the minions both as callers on talk radio, and as mailers responding to my various editorial columns. Whereas last year during the election cycle when I would dare to ask questions of the dear leader Obama, the minions’ first line of attack would be to call me a “racist” (or as one talk show caller put it to me last October, “you just can’t handle the idea of being under the authority of a black man, Austin”), today the line of attack is different. And while each talk show call and each email message are unique, the minions nonetheless typically follow a predictable pattern.

These days, the minions’ first line of attack on those of us who dare to ask questions about the dear leader seems to be to change the subject back to President George W. Bush. I heard plenty of this in March when I was back at my Washington, D.C. radio home, 630 WMAL, during the fiasco with the AIG Corporation and their executives. When I posed the question “why did President Obama hand-over $30 billion of our tax dollars to AIG in the first place?,” the responses frequently followed this pattern.

“This whole bailout mess got started with Bush” one caller stated to me (this is true, of course – – but it didn’t answer the question about Obama’s bailout behavior). “Obama wouldn’t have to bailout AIG had Bush not destroyed it,” and “if you think things are bad now, let’s go back and review the previous eight years” were some of the other subject-changing comments I got on talk radio. And after authoring a column entitled “Is Obama The Moral Alternative to Capitalism?” wherein I detailed the President’s propensity to control private corporations, and determine who their CEO’s and board members will be, one simple-minded minion emailed “I suppose you think things would be better if Bush and his cronies were in charge…”

After attempting to change the subject, and get the focus of the conversation OFF of dear leader Obama, the second line of attack from the minions seems to be to demonize the talk show host, and talk radio generally. I got an earful of this during a recent show I hosted at Phoenix, Arizona’s NewsTalk 92-3 KTAR. Noting President Obama’s plans to set earnings limits on corporate executives, I posed the question, “should President Obama determine how much money you’re allowed to earn?”

“You all can’t do anything but hate on this guy” a caller said in response. “All you talk radio guys know how to do is trash Obama” another caller said.

Oh really? I was “hating on” the dear leader, and “trashing” him? I pressed further with one caller, saying “seriously…should President Obama set the limit on how much money you’re allowed to make at your job – – just to make certain that you don’t make ‘too much’?”

“He’s not proposing to limit my pay, you idiot” the minion replied. “He’s only limiting the salaries of corporate CEO’s, which he should be doing.”

“So, are you saying that some of your fellow Americans deserve less freedom that you do?” I asked. “You should be free to make as much money as you can, but your fellow American should not – – is that your point?”

“That’s not what I’m saying, you idiot!” the angry minion replied.
