Blessed is the Man Who Delights in the Law of the LORD

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.

But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.

Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Girl Scouts Teaching Lessons in Lesbianism

Monday, May 18th, 2009

I thought better of the Girl Scouts than that. Guess they are going to follow right along with the homosexual agenda.

When many parents think of Girl Scouts, they imagine young girls in uniform selling Thin Mints and Tagalong cookies – not learning about stone labyrinths, world peace, global warming, yoga, avatars, smudging incense, Zen gardens and feminist, communist and lesbian role models.

But that’s exactly what many of 2.7 million Girl Scouts will learn about with a new curriculum called “Journeys” released last year.

Patti Garibay spent nearly two decades in Girl Scouts – six years as a girl member and 13 years as a volunteer. She was also a recruiter, camp coordinator and area delegate winning outstanding leader and volunteer in both councils in which she served. In Garibay’s words, she “bled green.”

But in 1993 when Girl Scouts USA decided to make God optional in its program at the national convention in Minneapolis, an idea known as “Proposal 3: Flexibility in Spiritual Wording,” Garibay chose to leave the organization.

“I had always used Girl Scouts as part of my life’s ministry, modeling my faith while serving girls,” she told WND. “However as this change became policy, mandates were made against Christmas caroling, praying at meetings and singing hymns. I had a true moral dilemma and felt that I could not uphold the GSUSA’s rules and remain a Christian never denying my Lord.”

In the Girl Scout curriculum, the organization’s promise now includes an asterisk with the following disclaimer:

Girl Scouts of the USA makes no attempt to define or interpret the word “God” in the Girl Scout Promise. It looks to individual members to establish for themselves the nature of their spiritual beliefs. When making the Girl Scout Promise, individuals may substitute wording appropriate to their own spiritual beliefs for the word “God.”

Garibay said it appears that Girl Scouts has taken a stance toward religion – the religion of the New Age – despite its proclaimed secular scouting program. WND asked Girl Scouts USA spokeswoman Michelle Tompkins if the organization is shifting its focus toward a New Age agenda.

“No, Girl Scouts isn’t headed into a New Age direction,” she said. “We’re just looking for new ways to get through to girls.”

Netanyahu to Tell Obama: Time ‘Running Out’ on Iran

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will use his meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday to stress that “time is running out” for stopping Iran’s nuclear program, so Obama must not spend more than a few months on his planned dialogue with Tehran unless real progress is achieved.

If progress is not achieved within a few months, the United States must move quickly to more aggressive measures against Iran, Netanyahu will say.

The prime minister’s aides say he is encouraged by an interview in Newsweek Sunday in which Obama says he is not “naive” about Iran and is not taking “any options off the table.” The purpose of the planned dialogue is to “offer Iran an opportunity to align itself with international norms,” according to Obama.

The president signaled that he has no intention of pursuing regime change in Iran, but stressed that Iran should be able “to maintain its Islamic character” while not being “a threat to its neighbors.”

He said he understands why Israel views Iran as an “existential threat,” and that because of this, Israelis’ “calculation of costs and benefits are going to be more acute. They’re right there in range, and I don’t think it’s my place to determine for the Israelis what their security needs are.” Obama can “make an argument” that his approach “offers the prospect of security, not just for the United States but also for Israel, that is superior to some of the other alternatives.”

Iran will be a key issue on Netanyahu’s agenda for the meeting. While he does not oppose the planned dialogue, he wants more details on how it will be conducted. Israel says the dialogue must include clear conditions, including on Iran’s nuclear activity during the talks, and a clear time limit. This view is shared by some senior American officials, including the special envoy on Iran, Dennis Ross. Israel says the time limit should be around three months.

National Security Council chairman Uzi Arad, who is accompanying Netanyahu, told reporters Sunday that “no issue is more important for Israel” than Iran, “and the U.S. administration is aware of this. There’s a feeling of great urgency, and we’re in a race against time.”

The Americans understand the timeline very well, and “neither side will dictate to the other,” Arad added.

On another key issue, Israeli-Palestinian talks, Netanyahu’s aides say he does not intend to accede to America’s request that he express support for a two-state solution, which is likely to lead to conflict.

“There may be differences of opinion” with Obama, Arad acknowledged, “but the practical approach of both parties will determine what happens.”

Netanyahu will present a series of security demands that he views as essential to any final-status agreement, including demilitarization of the West Bank and Israeli control of its airspace. He will cite Hamas’ control of Gaza as a major barrier to progress.

On the settlements, he will propose establishing a bilateral Israeli-American committee to reach understandings on reining in construction and evacuating outposts. He will also demand that such Israeli steps be matched by Palestinian progress on fighting terror.

The Palestinian Authority, the Arab states and Europe are all urging Obama to pressure Israel to stop settlement construction, and many senior administration officials and senior Democrats in Congress support this approach.

Netanyahu has said he will not build new settlements, but will permit “natural growth” in existing ones.

“Gog-Magog Materializing” by Terry James

Monday, May 18th, 2009

News that, to me, links to the prophet Ezekiel’s foretelling of the Gog-Magog war continues to bring into focus precursor stage setting for that assault on end-times Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, at the same time, is scheduled to meet with a new U.S. president whose pre-election rhetoric and post-election actions almost certainly lay groundwork that will drive a wedge between America and the people God calls His chosen. The movement away from Israel by the American administration and the international community inflicting a destructive peace process upon Israel is a prescription for disaster.

Russia, the nation to the uttermost north of Jerusalem, is making noises of intention to exert hegemony over all things pertaining to gas and oil energy within its sphere of influence. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev made his nation’s intention known in conjunction with the United Nations’ issuing a deadline for countries wanting to make claims for sea bed gas and oil deposits, particularly in the Arctic region.

The Kremlin policy position paper, signed off by Medvedev, addressed Russia’s main challenges to national security for the next decade. Russian policy in the area of acquisition and protection of its energy needs will in the next ten years be shaped by battles over energy reserves, the Kremlin document said. The Kremlin paper stated the leadership’s attitude regarding the use of military force in the problem of Russia’s energy resources.

It declared, “Amid competitive struggle for resources, attempts to use military force to solve emerging problems can’t be excluded … The existing balance of forces near the borders of the Russian Federation and its allies can be violated.” The document said the Middle East, the Barents Sea, the Arctic, the Caspian Sea, and Central Asia are considered by the Kremlin as at the heart of competing claims for resources.

Meanwhile, adding to current building tensions that have biblically prophetic overtones, King Abdullah of Jordan has called together–astonishingly, in my view—a series of meetings of Arab nations and western powers called the World Economic Forum on Middle East. The meetings opened in Jordan this past Friday (May 15) at a time Israel is celebrating it’s sixty-first birthday into modern times.

The meeting comes, ostensibly, from the Arab nations’ trepidation about how dangerous is the Iranian regime, led by a man, and by mullahs who believe they can be truly successful only if they bring about the Islamic version of Armageddon. Cynical as the history of the Arabs’ hatred for the Jews has made me, I sense the meetings are much more nefariously based than fear of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and his wanting to bring the mahti from the well to rule over an all Islamic world. I look for there to come from the World Economic Forum on Middle East greatly increased pressure against Israel to agree to a peace initiative yet to be determined.

It can’t be coincident, I’m convinced. While the above things are gyrating in the Middle East, Russia, and Iran, the same man representing Israel as prime minister who so angered U.S. President Bill Clinton when he visited the White House in 1996 that Clinton was said to have had a profanity-laced fit, is about to meet with a president that at every geopolitical turn seems to want to take America farther from the alliance that binds the two nations.

Again, the chief focus of the upcoming Obama-Netanyahu White House meeting, like the focus of the World Economic Forum on Middle East, involves Iran and its threat to introduce yet another nuclear military entity into the volatile region. And, the president has already issued a warning to the leader of our closest ally in that incendiary part of the world.

U.S. President Barack Obama has sent a message to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanding that Israel not surprise the U.S. with an Israeli military operation against Iran. The message was conveyed by a senior American official who met in Israel with Netanyahu, ministers and other senior officials…Obama did not wait for his White House meeting with Netanyahu, scheduled for next Monday, to deliver his message, but rather sent it ahead of time with his envoy.

It may be assumed that Obama is disturbed by the positions Netanyahu expressed before his election vis-a-vis Tehran—for example, Netanyahu’s statement that “If elected I pledge that Iran will not attain nuclear arms, and that includes whatever is necessary for this statement to be carried out” (“Obama warns Netanyahu: Don’t surprise me with Iran strike,” Aluf Benn and Natasha Mozgovaya, Haaretz, Reuters, 5/15/09).

The cameras, lights, and action are turned precisely on the nations and issues God’s Word foretold will be at the center of deteriorating world conditions as the time of Christ’s return approaches. Jesus told the disciples who are alive at the time these things come into view to be watchful (Mark 13:37). Certainly, there is much to watch in these troubling, though exciting days.

“Obama to Israel: No Surprise Attacks Please” by Todd Strandberg

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Sometimes when I write an article for “Nearing Midnight,” there is a rush of news the following week that makes me wish I had delayed posting my commentary. Such is the case with last week’s “Brace for Impact” article.

Prophecy is unfolding at such a fast pace, I can see Terry and I being forced to serialize our commentary for future NMU. We may also have to start posting mid-week revisions of our prophetic observations. Because we have a lot of other projects that demand our time, this is an option we hope does not become necessary.

The latest indication that America and Israel are coming into conflict with each other’s interests came when President Obama sent a communication to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanding that Israel not surprise the U.S. with a Israeli military operation against Iran. The message was conveyed by a senior American official who met in Israel with Netanyahu, ministers, and other senior officials.

Obama is clearly worried about statements made by the new Israeli leader. Netanyahu has said, “I pledge that Iran will not attain nuclear arms, and that includes whatever is necessary for this statement to be carried out.” After taking office, on Holocaust Memorial Day, Netanyahu said: “We will not allow Holocaust-deniers to carry out another holocaust.”

Three weeks ago, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Leon E. Panetta, held a secret meeting with Mr. Netanyahu in Jerusalem. The Israeli leader asked the United States to set benchmarks that would demonstrate that its diplomatic effort to resolve the Iranian nuclear conflict is working. Netanyahu made it clear that he would only give Washington a limited amount of time to show that its goodwill approach is getting results.

Iran is not the only source of friction between the U.S. and Israel. President Barack Obama is now also pressing Israel over Jewish settlements in the disputed West Bank. He plans to ask Netanyahu to freeze all new developments. Netanyahu has already confirmed that he is solidly behind the rights of Jews to settle in the West Bank.

“While it isn’t known how hard Obama will press the point or the precise outlines of his request, but by raising the settlements issue now, he’s wading into one of the most sensitive areas of U.S.-Israeli relations—one that’s confounded many of his predecessors” (Warren P. Strobel and Dion Nissenbaum, McClatchy News).

Obama has made several demands of Israel, but has yet to produce a detailed master plan for how to achieve these lofty goals that have eluded American presidents for decades. We may get a glimpse of his new strategy when Obama meets with Netanyahu, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas later this month.

The test of how well President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu will be able to work together will come this week as Netanyahu makes his first trip to Washington. I doubt Obama is going to get a promise of a warning of any Israeli attacks against Iran. There is already too much concern that the Obama administration has become too chummy with the Muslim world. I don’t see why Israel needs to tell the U.S. of its plans. If Obama has no plans to help out in the attack, and with it being vital to the survival of the Jewish state, Obama can rely on the cable news networks to learn of any strike against Iran.

An operation against Iran would change everything in the Middle East. Mohamed El Baradei, the outgoing head of the International Atomic Energy Agency said in an interview with German daily Der Spiegel that a strike “would turn the region into one great fireball, and the Iranians would immediately begin building the bomb—with the support of the entire Islamic world.”

A conflict between Israel and Iran could very well be the spark that lights the fuse to the tribulation hour. We are so close the last days, any major event will be enough of a catalyst to set events into motion. If world leaders had a basic understanding of prophecy, they wouldn’t have allowed this ticking time bomb to progress to the point it is now.

“And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it” (Zechariah 12:3).

“Unleash Heaven!” by Stan Goodenough

Monday, May 18th, 2009

“You have no idea of the kind of pressure that is brought to bear on an Israeli prime minister when he enters the White House.” (The late David Bar-Ilan, Chief of Information and Policy Planning for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a personal conversation with this writer, November 1998.)

Netanyahu flew to Washington DC at the weekend, arriving Sunday morning, a day before his scheduled series of meetings with American President Barack Obama and other administration officials.

Despite calming words and promises from administration officials that the Americans won’t be too demanding “this time,” millions of Israelis and their friends are tense with anticipation about the outcome of these talks.

The US believes it has Israel over a barrel. Netanyahu must either endorse the “two-state-solution” or be seen to be resisting the will of the whole world.

What the prime minister is being asked to do is without precedent: Never has a national leader been ordered to surrender for all time his people’s claim to their costliest and most strategic national assets. On top of this, Netanyahu knows too well the bankruptcy of “land-for-peace” – how every effort to proceed with this American-led program has painfully backfired, costing thousands more Jewish lives and increasingly endangering the security of their state.

The “two-state solution” requires the ethnic cleansing of 300,000 Jews from their biblical heartland, the cradle of their nationhood. It calls for the destruction of all their homes and communities. It will add insurmountably to Israel’s already desperate water crisis. And it will leave Israel too small, too truncated, to properly defend – and this in a neighborhood that positively churns with hatred for the Jews.

In the words of Hebron resident Gary Cooperberg: For Israel, the two-state solution is another version of The Final Solution.

Were the eyes and ears of our inner man open to what is happening today in the spiritual realm over Washington DC, we’d be aghast at the fury of the fight. The atmosphere above the American capital is surely boiling, as heaven and hell vie for dominance over the institutions of government, especially the White House, the State Department and the Department of Defense.

Prime targets for the enemy will be within the presidential residence itself: In the room set apart for a three-hour meeting between Obama and Netanyahu, where the American will be doing whatever he can to seduce or coerce the Israeli into embracing two-states; and in the media briefing room, where the world’s press will be out in force to dig and poke into the Israeli leader after the summit, hungry to expose triumphantly either his failure to withstand Obama’s demands or, in their biased estimation, his intransigence and opposition to peace.

American arrogance in dealing with Israel can be breathtaking.

As recalled in The Jerusalem Post Sunday, after President Clinton met with then first-time Prime Minister Netanyahu in 1996, the Oval Office was left seething.

Dennis Ross, a top advisor to Clinton on Middle East affairs, could barely contain himself. In his book, The Missing Peace, he fumes:

“Netanyahu was nearly insufferable, lecturing and telling us how to deal with the Arabs.”

“After Netanyahu was gone, President Clinton observed, ‘He thinks he is the superpower and we are here to do whatever he requires.’”

Of course, Netanyahu could justifiably claim to know a great deal more about the Arabs than do most American leaders – and American Jews like Ross.

What should be thrown back at Ross and Clinton, though, and what should be spelled out for Obama to consider, is this: America may think that, because it is the superpower, it can bully little Israel into going along with whatever the US considers is in ITS best interest.

In fact, there is only one Superpower, one Ruler of the Universe. It is He who raises nations, and brings them down. He has done so with numerous powers in the past, and America is set to be next.

God has destined Israel to be chief among the nations, and the United States to serve her, or die. Obama can squirm and squeal at the thought, but he should be shaking in his chair. In heaven’s eyes, it’s a done deal.

There is a time, during military campaigns, when field commanders choose to hold back their forces and wait for the moment to strike. Factors under consideration include the element of surprise; the critical role of the immediate phase of battle; available time for the execution of the attack; comprehension of the bigger picture, i.e. what other battle plans will be put into play in the coming days, etc.

As we watch the nations gathering to come against Israel, we may wonder whether to call out for heavy weaponry right now, or wait until things get worse.

In fact, God’s Hosts have been warring with the nations for centuries already – almost everywhere opposing gentile efforts – through murder, forced exile or forced assimilation – to wipe out the Jews.

Through human eyes the battle is one-sided and Israel has no chance – one small country and nation against the Globalists in the international arena, the United States, the United Nations, the European Union, Russia, China, 57 Islamic states with their 1.4 billion people, hundreds of thousands of apostate churches with their billion-and-a-half or more adherents; global jihad, worldwide secular humanism.

There is certainly no way her prime minister and his team can stand under the crushing weight of this world and its forces.

But, seen through those spiritual eyes, the opposite is true. The combined forces of opposition to Israel are outnumbered and outweighed by the heavenly hosts.

In the film ‘Gladiator,” power pumps from the screen as the Roman General Maximus thunders his horse across the front line of his troops, infusing them with passion for a fiery and devastating assault on the attacking hordes.

“When you see my signal,” he roars, “Unleash hell.” And they do.

Only God knows, as the world’s leaders have lined up, one after the other, to demand and insist that Netanyahu agree to go along with their two-state solution, how many believers – in Jerusalem and in the nations – have been fasting and praying, groaning for Him to intercede for His people and His land.

In her album ‘Always on His Mind,’ Kansas City musician Misty Edwards prays for His drastic intervention in the earth.

“Prince of peace,” she cries. “Come, make war.”

Israel feels outnumbered, as do those of us who stand with God’s purposes for her. But as Edwards continues:

“When the nations are raging against You, we want to be with You where You are.”

We may not know His timing, but we know that the moment will come. But my cry today is: “Lord, unleash heaven!”

Then the LORD will go forth
And fight against those nations,
As He fights in the day of battle.

And the LORD shall be King over all the earth.
In that day it shall be—
“ The LORD is one,”
And His name one.
(Zechariah 14:3,9)
