Christ the Wisdom and Power of God

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”

Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.

Jeasus Wisdom

Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

Palestinian Officials ‘Surprised by’ US Peace Plan

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Palestinian Authority officials said on Wednesday that they had been “surprised” to hear about US President Barack Obama’s new peace plan from the Israeli media, noting that Washington had not informed the PA leadership about the initiative.

The officials said that PA President Mahmoud Abbas, who is scheduled to visit Washington later this month, would seek clarifications from Obama about the peace plan published in Yediot Aharonot and Ma’ariv.

One PA official said Abbas and his aides were currently studying the plan, which, he added, included “several positive points.” The official stressed, however, that some of the proposals mentioned in the plan were completely unacceptable to the Palestinians.

These proposals, he said, included the talk about resettling Palestinian refugees in Arab countries, swapping lands between the future Palestinian state and Israel, creating a demilitarized state and granting the Old City of Jerusalem the status of an international city.

“This Changes Everything?” by Michael G. Mickey

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Yesterday someone sent me a link to a History Channel web site page featuring the following headline: THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING

Below the headline, right after I opened the page, an animation started to play that read:

I have to confess my interest was piqued a bit by the drama of it all.

The person who sent me the link pondered what the countdown clock on the page at the end of the animation was leading to. What is the History Channel planning to present to us at 9 p.m. Eastern on May 25, 2009 that is going to, well, change everything? It HAS to be incredible to do THAT, right?

Perhaps we are being primed for a disclosure of findings supportive of extraterrestrial life existing in the universe, proving we are not alone. Perhaps the History Channel is going to reveal that the moon landings of our astronauts was faked or maybe that 9/11 was an inside job or that Barack Obama’s birth certificate has finally been disclosed to the public and he is not a natural born U.S. citizen! What could it be?

Ida, the amazing lemur monkey human girl

If you haven’t heard by now, a number of paleontologists are suggesting they have found the ‘missing link’ that proves Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution is true. Sky News is reporting it like this, in part:

The search for a direct connection between humans and the rest of the animal kingdom has taken 200 years – but it was presented to the world today at a special news conference in New York.

The discovery of the 95%-complete ‘lemur monkey’ – dubbed Ida – is described by experts as the “eighth wonder of the world”.

They say its impact on the world of palaeontology will be “somewhat like an asteroid falling down to Earth”.

Researchers say proof of this transitional species finally confirms Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, and the then radical, outlandish ideas he came up with during his time aboard the Beagle.

Sir David Attenborough said Darwin “would have been thrilled” to have seen the fossil – and says it tells us who we are and where we came from.

Yes, you read right! Finally, after striving to prove Charles Darwin’s fairy tale is true forever it seems, the Darwinists have found the long-sought ‘missing link’ (again) and they are just giddy! One starry-eyed dreamer is seen in a video embedded on the Sky News page looking at Ida’s little fossilized monkeyness while saying, “Wow!” Another Darwinist is seen placing a hand on his comrade’s shoulder in the video as he looks at the fossil, the two of them sharing the emotional, everything-changing moment together.

Question: Did everything around you just change upon reading the above? When I read it, the only thing that changed here was my mood, but if you want to tune in and see the big May 25th event on the History Channel so you won’t miss the most incredible find EVER (Ida, the fossilized lemur not related to a human being in any fashion), flip the channel over there for a bit. Watching the Darwinists and narrator try to sell this find to us as proof of evolution will be every bit as humorous to watch as an episode of ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ if you believe the Word of God as thoroughly as I do which could, in an odd sort of way, hold some entertainment value.

Will I watch some of the show? Honestly, I’ll probably watch a bit of it, at least long enough to hear some well-learned, scholarly genius tell the whole (gullible) world that the bones of a four-legged, long-tailed primate the size of a small cat is a distant cousin of ours. Why? That’s comedy. Pure comedy.

If we evolved, there should be remains of millions, maybe even billions, of transitional species to be found and yet they can only find one? One little Ida, the amazing lemur monkey human girl? Give me a break. They should have warehouses full of ‘missing links’ by now as hard as the practitioners of the religion of Darwinism, yes religion, have been trying to make their case, but they don’t, mostly because God’s Word is true and there are none to be found, but I digress.

Bring on the haters!

Undoubtedly, as soon as I post this commentary, I am going to be deluged with a pile of hate mail from those who believe Darwin has finally been proven correct as the Sky News article seems to state as fact, but I’m far from alone in dismissing the findings as significant.

Ken Ham, president of the apologetics ministry Answers in Genesis, is quoted as saying the following, in part, on the issue in a article:

“Because the fossil is similar to a modern lemur (a small, tailed, tree-climbing primate), it’s unlikely that creationists need any interpretation of the ‘missing link’ other than that it was a small, tailed, probably tree-climbing, and now extinct primate — from a kind created on Day 6 of Creation Week.”

While I was pleased to read that Ken Ham is addressing Ida head on, I’ve never needed to have an interpretation of any purported ‘missing link’ provided me. Common sense is something I was blessed with, not to mention a little thing called FAITH that keeps me grounded in the truth as recorded in God’s Word. Then there’s all the evidence I’ve been documenting here for years indicating that everything foretold in the prophecies of the Bible are currently posturing for fulfillment at an ever-quickening pace, something way more conclusive of where the truth concerning our existence rests than a pile of rotting monkey bones!

Conclusion: This fossil the grave diggers have named Ida? It isn’t going to “change everything!” It is going to change absolutely nothing as time and the fulfillment of Bible prophecy will bear witness to, but here is a link to a video teaser of the big May 25th event for you to chew on until nauseous: NON-MISSING LINK TO HISTORY CHANNEL VIDEO

Come quickly, Lord Jesus! I’ve got a headache!

Obama in Gitmo Pickle After Senate Blocks Closure Funds

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

The Emperor is angry. How dare anyone oppose his plans, especially people who are supposed to be his supports. Fools!! They will feel the wrath of his most (self)-Exalted Immensity. Oh yes, they will.

President Obama is trying to keep Democratic unrest from derailing his plans to close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp after the Senate voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to yank money for shuttering the prison.

The president is delivering a speech Thursday meant to shed light on how the administration expects to transfer 240 detainees off the island by January 2010.

The address appears overdue, considering the resistance and mixed messages coming from top-ranking Democrats over the issue on Capitol Hill.

By a vote of 90-6, the Senate approved an amendment to a war funding bill Wednesday that not only blocks supplemental funds from being used to close Guantanamo and move detainees to U.S. soil, but also orders that no funds already in U.S. coffers be redirected toward that purpose.

The Senate also overwhelmingly approved an amendment offered by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell that requires a classified threat assessment of each detainee at Guantanamo. It was a severe blow to the impassioned opposition of Sen. Dick Durbin, (D-Ill.), who argued that the release of that sensitive information might jeopardize the prosecutions of the detainees.

Sen. Dan Inouye, D-Hawaii, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said the vote to strip the $80 million Obama had wanted should not be seen as a rebuke to the administration but a “wake up call.”

He said it is “up to the administration to fashion a plan that can win the support of the American people and members of Congress.”

The amendment Wednesday also precludes the upgrade of any U.S. facility or the building of any new facility to house detainees. The supplemental bill on which senators are voting lasts until the new budget year, which starts on Oct 1.

The amendments complicating Guantanamo closure don’t stop there. This afternoon, the Senate is expected to vote on an amendment from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., that would mandate a U.S. threat assessment for every single detainee at Gitmo.

Republicans used Wednesday’s vote to build momentum against the prison’s closure. GOP senators held a press conference immediately after the vote to warn that U.S. prisons are not equipped to hold the dangerous detainees now in Cuba. Plus they said the Guantanamo facility is best for the detainees themselves, arguing that it provides superior health care and special accommodations to practice Islam.

“If you were to close Guantanamo and move these people somewhere in the United States, you could not duplicate what is available there,” said Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb. “I would suggest to you that they would receive worse treatment than they are receiving at Guantanamo.”

Homegrown Islamic Terrorist Wanted to Commit Jihad Against Jewish Temple, Shoot Down Airplanes

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

A group of homegrown Islamic (Muslim) terrorist, have been arrested in New York for planning to blow up a Jewish temple and shoot down airplanes at a nearby military air base.
Thanks to the skill of New York law enforcement, the group was arrested before they could carry of their threat.

NEW YORK — DEVELOPING: The New York City police commissioner says four men wanted to commit jihad when they plotted to bomb a Jewish temple and shoot down military planes in upstate New York.

At a news conference outside the Bronx temple Thursday, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly quoted one of the men as saying, “If Jews were killed in this attack … that would be all right.”

Fox News Article.

AP/MYFOX – The FBI arrested four men in New York City on Wednesday evening in an alleged plot to detonate a bomb outside a Jewish temple. Officials told The Associated Press the arrests came after a long-running undercover operation that began in Newburgh, N.Y.

The defendants planned to “destroy a synagogue and a Jewish community center with C-4 plastic explosives,” Acting U.S. Attorney Lev L. Dassin said.

The religious targets were the Riverdale Temple, founded in 1947, and the Riverdale Jewish Center on Independence Avenue in the Bronx, authorities said.

“I want to congratulate the men and women of the NYPD, the New York State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Joint Terrorism Task Force who tonight foiled a terrorist plot that targeted Riverdale Temple and Riverdale Jewish Center in the Bronx for bombing,” Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement. “[T]his latest attempt to attack our freedoms shows that the homeland security threats against New York City are sadly all too real and underscores why we must remain vigilant in our efforts to prevent terrorism.”

The investigation had been under way for about a year.

James Cromitie, David Williams, Onta Williams and Laguerre Payen, all of Newburgh, were charged with conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction within the United States and conspiracy to acquire and use anti-aircraft missiles, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

The men had planned to detonate a car with plastic explosives outside a temple in the Bronx neighborhood of Riverdale and to shoot military planes at the New York Air National Guard base at Stewart Airport in Newburgh with Stinger surface-to-air guided missiles, authorities said.

In June 2008, the informant met Cromitie in Newburgh and Cromitie complained that his parents had lived in Afghanistan and he was upset about the war there and that many Muslim people were being killed in Afghanistan and Pakistan by U.S. military forces, officials said.

Cromitie also expressed an interest in doing “something to America,” they said in the complaint.

Report Shows Air Quality Improved During Bush Administration

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Well, how about that?

As the Obama administration considers further steps to fight air pollution, a recent report from a Washington think tank shows that air quality in the United States has improved significantly over the last decade.

The American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research analyzed data collected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and concluded that levels of numerous gases linked with air pollution have fallen off since 2001.

Among the findings: Carbon monoxide decreased by 39 percent, ozone by 6 percent, and sulfur dioxide by 32 percent.

“Pick any category you want and pollution levels are generally lower than they were seven years ago,” said Steven Hayward, the policy analyst who authored the report, titled “Index of Leading Environmental Indicators,” for the conservative think tank.

“(Environmental groups) said air pollution was out of control, but this was always more about politics than it was fact,” Hayward said.

Environmental groups agree that tremendous progress has been made since the 1980s, when cities like Houston and Los Angeles were thick with smog and acid rain devastated lakes and forests across the U.S.

But they add that the progress reflects “strong legislation,” and they say the nation needs more of it.

“The reason we’ve had success over the last 40 years is because strong laws like the Clean Air Act work on pollution,” said John Walke, an attorney with the Natural Resources Defense Council.

“But we have a long way to go. We’ve learned more. The science is better today than it was in 1980 or 1990. We now know we need stronger definitions of clean air to truly protect Americans.

“Over 150 million Americans live in areas with unhealthy air,” Walke said. “If we can pass effective laws, we can reduce the problem.”

In an e-mailed statement, the EPA said that it has seen success by a number of measures, but there are still key areas of the country “not meeting EPA’s air quality standards.”

President George W. Bush drew the ire of environmental groups throughout his eight years in the White House, perhaps the loudest in 2003 when he announced that he would end a Clean Air Act program that required older power plants, refineries and industrial sites to install pollution control devices when they expanded their operations.

But in looking over the data on air quality from the Bush years, Hayward notes that levels of most air pollutants decreased at a faster rate than they did during the Clinton administration.

“Mostly of it’s technological change. Quite a bit of it’s been forced by regulation, but a lot of it has been the marketplace,” Hayward said. “The EPA has models that project an 80 percent decline in auto emissions. Nothing Bush could have done was going to change that.”

Responding to Hayward’s report, the EPA said it did not correlate drops in pollution levels to specific presidential decisions.

“Air quality regulations and progress overlap administrations,” the agency said in a statement. “For example, ozone reductions that began in the East in 2004 resulted from a rule the agency issued in 1998.”
