An Ongoing Cultural Autopsy

The information is so overwhelming and so awful that even the mainstream media has increasingly been forced to describe the plight of women in Muslim lands. Over the weekend, Nicholas D. Kristof (who has always been good on this) tells the story of a new Pakistani hero: Sixteen-year-old, Assiya Rafiq, who was kidnapped, sold, beaten and raped for a solid year—and then raped again when she went to the police to press charges. She, her supportive parents and siblings now live in hiding as she prepares to prosecute both the gang-members and the police.

Today, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal both have articles about the return of the Taliban to the Swat Valley in Pakistan and about what that means: The increased kidnapping and indoctrination of children into becoming jihadic warriors and the parallel brutalization of women, infidels, and civilians through beheadings, acid attacks, forced, harsh veiling, and bans on women shopping.

Islam Watch has just reported an increase in the caning of women in Bangladesh (a dangerous and crippling punishment). The same article also discusses the typical nightmare of one battered Afghan wife whose husband and in-laws kept trying to kill her—and whose own brothers are now trying to kill her because she dared flee and divorce the human monster. This one particular woman has lost custody of her nine children and lives in hiding with the help of an American charitable NGO. This is a picture of Afghanistan today.

Which brings me to the Afghan-Canadian family which has just been charged with the mass murder of four of its female members. We in the West had better start factoring in the international and cultural realities that govern the histories and psychologies of immigrants from Muslim countries.

When a story is breaking and I’m on deadline, I try to do the best I can—but sometimes, I get important details, as well as minor details, wrong. And, I do not always draw certain conclusions right away.

For example, the Canadian Kingston police did not describe the cold-blooded murder of three innocent Afghan-Muslim girls (Zainab, Sahar, and Geeti Safi) and one innocent Afghan-Muslim woman (Rona Amir Mohammed) as a “Muslim honor killing.” The Canadian radio announcer did so as did other journalists. The police were very careful, and rightly so, to refrain from explicitly saying this.

More ‘Home Grown’ Terrorist Arrested

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

WASHINGTON — A father, his two sons and four other men living in North Carolina are accused of military-style training at home and plotting “violent jihad” abroad, federal authorities said.

Officials said Monday the men were led by Daniel Patrick Boyd, a married 39-year-old who lived in an unassuming lakeside home in a rural area south of Raleigh, where he and his family walked their dog and operated a drywall business.

But court records indicate Boyd was a veteran of terrorist training camps in Pakistan and Afghanistan who fought against the Soviet Union.

“These charges hammer home the point that terrorists and their supporters are not confined to the remote regions of some far-away land but can grow and fester right here at home,” U.S. Attorney George E.B. Holding said.

The seven men made their first court appearances in Raleigh on Monday, charged with providing material support to terrorism. If convicted, they could face life in prison.

The indictment said Boyd, a U.S. citizen, trained in Afghanistan and fought there between 1989 and 1992 before returning to the United States. Court documents charged that Boyd, also known as ‘Saifullah,’ encouraged others to engage in jihad.

Boyd’s faith was so brash that, this year, he stopped attending worship services in the Raleigh area and instead began meeting for Friday prayers in his home.

“This is not an indictment of the entire Muslim community,” Holding said. “These people had broken away because their local mosque did not follow their vision of being a good Muslim.”

In 1991, Boyd and his brother were convicted of bank robbery in Pakistan — accused of carrying identification showing they belonged to the radical Afghan guerrilla group, Hezb-e-Islami, or Party of Islam.

They were each sentenced to have a foot and a hand cut off for the robbery, but the sentenced was later overturned.

The wives of the men told The Associated Press in an interview at the time they were glad the truth about their husbands had finally become known. The wives said the couples had U.S. roots but the United States was a country of “kafirs” — Arabic for heathens.

Jim Stephenson, a neighbor of Patrick Boyd in Willow Spring, said he saw the Boyd family walking their dog in the neighborhood. He said the indictment shocked the residents.

“We never saw anything to give any clues that something like that could be going on in their family,” Stephenson said.

Two of the suspects are Boyd’s sons: Zakariya Boyd, 20 and Dylan Boyd, 22. The others are Anes Subasic, 33; Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, 22; and Ziyad Yaghi, 21.

Hysen Sherifi, 24, a native of Kosovo and a U.S. legal permanent also was charged in the case. He was the only person arrested who was not a U.S. citizen.

The suspects face charges of providing material support to terrorism and “conspiracy to murder, kidnap, maim and injure persons abroad.”

All were residents of North Carolina. No attorneys for the men were listed in court records.

Reached at her home in Silver Spring, Md., Boyd’s mother said she had not heard of their arrests and knew nothing about the current case.

“It certainly sounds weird to me,” Pat Saddler said. “That’s news to me.”

Hassan’s father declined to comment Monday night while others did not have listed numbers or did not return calls.

It’s unclear how authorities learned of the activities, although court documents indicate that prosecutors will introduce evidence gathered under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

Prosecutors say Boyd’s time in Pakistan included terrorist training that he brought back to North Carolina, where over the past three years he recruited followers willing to die as martyrs waging jihad. Prosecutors would not detail what the group was targeting overseas.

The indictment said they provided money, training, transportation and men to help terrorists. Boyd and some of the others traveled to Israel in June 2007 intending to wage “violent jihad,” but returned home without success, the document said.

Boyd also was accused of trying to raise money last year to fund others’ travel overseas to fight. One of the men, Hysen Sharifi, allegedly went to Kosovo to engage in violent jihad, according to the indictment, but it’s unclear if he did any actual fighting.

Several of the defendants, including Boyd, were also charged with practicing military tactics on a private property in Caswell County in June and July of this year.

In 1991 in Pakistan, Daniel Boyd and his older brother denied they were guilty of stealing $3,200 from the bank. When the sentence was imposed, Boyd shouted: “This isn’t an Islamic court. It’s a court of infidels!”

The brothers had become the first foreigners to be convicted and sentenced by special Islamic courts set up by the conservative federal government to impose speedy trials for so-called “heinous” crimes.

About a month later, when their convictions were overturned, Daniel Boyd said, “The truth has finally come out.”

The men’s wives, also Americans, refused to answer questions about their husbands’ links to the Afghan mujahedeen, or Islamic holy warriors, though they did say their husbands embraced Islam nine years earlier.

Boyd’s wife, Sabrina, had three sons with her in Pakistan at the time of the sentencing: 3-year-old Zakariya, 1-year-old Luqman and 5-year-old Mohammed. The indictment filed in North Carolina says Dylan Boyd is also known as Mohammed.

Muslim Mob Targets Christians for Building Church

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

JERUSALEM – Hundreds of Muslims over the weekend tried to set a local Egyptian Christian’s home on fire after he announced he would turn the structure into a church, an Egyptian security source and local Christians told WND.

At least four Christian Copts and two Muslim policemen were wounded in the clashes that ensued this past Friday after about 500 local Muslims descended upon the small Christian village of Al-Hawasiliya, vowing to burn down the house.

Local Christians told WND the Muslim mob was provoked at local mosque services.

“The imams deliberately worked up the congregants against us,” a local Christian told WND yesterday.

The Muslims accused the Christian home owner of attempting to build a church without the proper local permits. Islamic Shariah law, not explicitly accepted by the Egyptian government, forbids the construction of any new churches in a Muslim state. Existing churches are allowed to remain but cannot be expanded and cannot conduct public ceremonies or ring church bells.

Egyptian police eventually stepped in to stop the Muslim crowd, but not before they first set several nearby Christian farms on fire, a security source in Egypt told WND.

This was not the first time Egyptian Christians were targeted on suspicion they might build a church. In 2007, WND reported Muslims in Egypt attacked local Christians and set fire to their shops and homes after the Christian community was accused of attempting to build a church. The Egyptian government heavily restricts the construction or enlargement of churches, requiring permits for any Christian building.

Coptic Christians constitute between 8 and 15 percent of Egypt’s population. They are regularly targeted by the country’s Muslim majority.

In April, WND quoted local Christian leaders charging an Egypt government policy to slaughter the country’s pigs as a stated precaution against swine flu was also aimed at targeting and weakening Egypt’s long-persecuted Christian community. Almost the entire pig farming community in Egypt is run by Coptic Christians.

Egypt that month started seizing and slaughtering herds of pigs in a bid to rid the country of its swine, explaining it was a safety precaution against swine flu. The move was heavily criticized by the United Nations, which put out a statement that the mass cull of up to 400,000 pigs was “a real mistake” since the new flu strain has not been found in pigs.

Christians are effectively restricted from senior Egyptian government, military or educational positions, and any worship services require the permission of the government.

The Coptic Church, a major Christian community in Egypt, reportedly dates back to the origins of Christianity. Christians were the majority in Egypt until several centuries after the Arab conquest of the 7th century.

Nurse ‘Forced’ to Help in a Late-Term Abortion

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

A New York nurse claims she was forced to choose between her religious convictions and her job when Mount Sinai Hospital ordered her to assist in a late-term abortion against her will.

The hospital even exaggerated the patient’s condition and claimed the woman could die if the nurse, a devout Catholic, did not follow orders, the nurse alleges in a lawsuit.

“It felt like a horror film unfolding,” said Catherina Cenzon-DeCarlo, 35, who claims she has had gruesome nightmares and hasn’t been able to sleep since the May 24 incident.

The married mother of a year-old baby was 30 minutes into her early-morning shift when she realized she had been assigned to an abortion. She begged her supervisor to find a replacement nurse for the procedure. The hospital had a six-hour window to find a fill-in, the suit says.

Bosses told the weeping Cenzon-DeCarlo the patient was 22 weeks into her pregnancy and had preeclampsia, a condition marked by high blood pressure that can lead to seizures or death if left untreated.

The supervisor “claimed that the mother could die if [Cenzon-DeCarlo] did not assist in the abortion.”

But the nurse, the niece of a Filipino bishop, contends that the patient’s life was not in danger. She argued that the patient was not even on magnesium therapy, a common treatment for preeclampsia, and did not have problems indicating an emergency.

Run with Perseverance

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

North Korea Publicly Executes Christian Woman for Distributing Bible

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Please continue to pray for Christians who are persecuted and oppressed.

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea publicly executed a Christian woman last month for distributing the Bible, which is banned in the communist nation, South Korean activists said Friday.

Ri Hyon Ok, 33, was also accused of spying for South Korea and the United States and organizing dissidents. She was executed in the northwestern city of Ryongchon near the border with China on June 16, according to a report from an alliance of several dozen anti-North Korea groups.

Ri’s parents, husband and three children were sent to a political prison camp in the northeastern city of Hoeryong the following day, the report said, citing unidentified documents it says were obtained from North Korea. It showed a copy of Ri’s North Korean government-issued photo ID. It is virtually impossible to verify such reports about secretive North Korea, where the government tightly controls the lives of its citizens and does not allow dissent.

On Thursday, an annual report from a state-run South Korean think tank on human rights in the North said that public executions, though dropping in number in recent years, were still carried out for crimes ranging from murder to circulating foreign movies.

North Korea claims to guarantee freedom of religion for its 24 million people but in reality severely restricts religious observances. The cult of personality surrounding national founder Kim Il Sung and his son, current leader Kim Jong Il, is a virtual state religion.

The government has authorized four state churches, one Catholic, two Protestant and one Russian Orthodox, but they cater to foreigners and ordinary North Koreans cannot attend. However, defectors and activists say more than 30,000 North Koreans are believed to practice Christianity secretly.

The U.S. State Department reported last year that “genuine religious freedom does not exist” in North Korea.

“North Korea appears to have judged that Christian forces could pose a threat to its regime,” Do Hee-youn, a leading activist, told reporters, claiming public executions, arrest and detention of North Koreans are prevalent.

Health Officials Say 40 Percent of Americans Could Get Swine Flu This Year

Monday, July 27th, 2009

ATLANTA — In a disturbing new projection, health officials say up to 40 percent of Americans could get swine flu this year and next and several hundred thousand could die without a successful vaccine campaign and other measures.

The estimates by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are roughly twice the number of those who catch flu in a normal season and add greater weight to hurried efforts to get a new vaccine ready for the fall flu season.

Swine flu has already hit the United States harder than any other nation, but it has struck something of a glancing blow that’s more surprising than devastating. The virus has killed about 300 Americans and experts believe it has sickened more than 1 million, comparable to a seasonal flu with the weird ability to keep spreading in the summer.

Health officials say flu cases may explode in the fall, when schools open and become germ factories, and the new estimates dramatize the need to have vaccines and other measures in place.

A world health official said the first vaccines are expected in September and October. The United States expects to begin testing on some volunteers in August, with 160 million doses ready in October.

The CDC came up with the new projections for the virus’ spread last month, but it was first disclosed in an interview this week with The Associated Press.

The estimates are based on a flu pandemic from 1957, which killed nearly 70,000 in the United States but was not as severe as the infamous Spanish flu pandemic of 1918-19. The number of deaths and illnesses from the new swine flu virus would drop if the pandemic peters out or if efforts to slow its spread are successful, said CDC spokesman Tom Skinner.

“Hopefully, mitigation efforts will have a big impact on future cases,” he said. Besides pushing flu shots, health officials might urge measures such as avoiding crowded places, handwashing, cough covering and timely use of medicines like Tamiflu.

Because so many more people are expected to catch the new flu, the number of deaths over two years could range from 90,000 to several hundred thousand, the CDC calculated. Again, that is if a new vaccine and other efforts fail.

In a normal flu season, about 36,000 people die from flu and its complications, according to the American Medical Association. That too is an estimate, because death certificates don’t typically list flu as a cause of death. Instead, they attribute a fatality to pneumonia or other complications.

Well-Preserved Ancient Roman Shipwrecks Found in Mediterranean

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Here’s another cool archeological find.

ROME — Archaeologists have found five well-preserved Roman shipwrecks deep under the sea off a small Mediterranean island, with their cargo of vases, pots and other objects largely intact, officials said Friday.

The ships are submerged about 330 to 490 feet off Ventotene, a tiny island that is part of an archipelago off Italy’s west coast between Rome and Naples.

The ships, which date from between the 1st century B.C. and the 4th century, carried amphorae — vases used for holding wine, olive oil and other products — as well as kitchen tools and metal and glass objects that have yet to be identified, Italy’s Culture Ministry said. The spot was highly trafficked, and hit by frequent storms and dangerous sea currents.

The discovery is part of a new drive by archaeological officials to scan deeper levels of the sea and prevent looting of submerged treasures.

Discoveries of shipwrecks are not unusual in the Mediterranean, but these ships are far better preserved than most, which are often found scattered in fragments, said Annalisa Zarattini, the head of the ministry’s office for underwater archaeology. Because the ships sank at a deeper lever than most known wrecks, they were not exposed to destructive underwater currents, she said.

The ships also sank without capsizing, allowing researchers to observe their cargo largely as it had been loaded, Zarattini said.

“It is like an underwater museum,” Zarattini said. The finding also sheds light on the trade routes of ancient Rome, marking the area as a major commercial crossroads, she said.

Treasure hunters usually dive down to about 30 meters (about 100 feet) underwater, but new and fast-spreading technology will make it increasingly easier for them to dive deep, Zarattini said. “It’s important to arrive first,” she added.

The ships were found during explorations concluded earlier this month by the ministry and the AURORA Trust, a U.S. group that gathers maritime researchers and provides equipment to explore the sea.

The researchers used sonar technology to provide imagery of the seabed and then employed remotely operated vehicles, the Culture Ministry and the AURORA Trust said.

The oldest of the ships has a cargo of wine amphorae from southern Italy, some stacked in their original position, AURORA said. Another one was carrying moratoria, large bowls used to grind grains. Another was loaded with African amphorae carrying garum, a fish sauce that was a delicacy in ancient Rome.

The largest wreck measures more than 20 meters (65 feet).

A handful of objects were taken out to be studied and will be put on display in Ventotene.

Comments on Obamacare

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Jeff Mazzella of the Center for Individual Freedom has this to say about Obamacare, and in my opinion, they are right on target.

“[T]he Energy and Commerce Committee will try again … to start marking up the health care bill. They’re going up to the White House … to be lobbied by Obama, which means [White House Chief of Staff] Rahm Emanuel is going to be there with a loaded gun. … This is not a time to start thinking victory. This is a time to keep mounting up even more heat.”

The words above were spoken by radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh when he issued a stern warning that despite what the mainstream liberal media may want you to believe, ObamaCare “is not dead.”

As Rush said:

“They’re going to be working with the White House to make another run at health care. It is not dead. We need to be on our toes. They’re going to regroup. They are going to pretend to be addressing the public’s concerns. They’ll up the lies, they will up the rhetoric.”

Indeed, lies and rhetoric are all the American people have gotten from President Obama during his push for government-run, rationed health care.

You undoubtedly have heard Obama’s oft-repeated statement:

“If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.”

Well, based on the language of what is currently moving at lightning speed through Congress, nothing could be further from the truth.

If ObamaCare passes, you can kiss your private health insurance goodbye… maybe your doctor, too… and you can certainly say adios to the best health care system the world has ever known.

As a matter of fact, Obama’s ultimate goal is to force all Americans into a single-payer government-run health care system… a huge bureaucracy that will decide which doctor you can see, when you can see him and which treatment that doctor is allowed to render onto you.

Syndicated Columnist George Will, writing in the Washington Post, exposed Obama’s monumental lie.

“Why does the president, who says that were America ‘starting from scratch’ he would favor a ‘single-payer’ – government-run – system, insist that health-care reform include a government insurance plan that competes with private insurers? The simplest answer is that such a plan will lead to a single-payer system.”

“Conservatives say that a government program will have the intended consequence of crowding private insurers out of the market, encouraging employers to stop providing coverage and luring employees from private insurance to the cheaper government option….

“The Lewin Group estimates that 70 percent of the 172 million persons privately covered might be drawn, or pushed, to the government plan…. The president characteristically denies that he is doing what he is doing – putting the nation on a path to an outcome he considers desirable – just as he denies any intention of running General Motors.”

Don’t let Obama slick-talk Congress and millions of Americans into giving up their freedom to make their own health care decisions.

A government-run system will bankrupt the nation while reducing the quality of care in America.

And Then… When They Thought You Weren’t Looking… They Tried To Pass A Single-Payer System.

Did you hear what was in the health care bill that House Democrats recently proposed… deceptively titled; America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 (H.R. 3200)?

According to Congressman John Shadegg (R-AZ), a leader in the fight against Obama’s government-run health care experiment:

“Passage of the Democrats’ Affordable Health Choice Act of 2009 will guarantee one thing – choice in health care will cease to exist. Don’t be fooled. If enacted, this legislation will restrict the health care options you have today. If there are any changes whatsoever made to your plan, the government will say no.”

In other words, the bill effectively makes private health insurance illegal!

On page 16 of the House bill, a provision entitled “Protecting The Choice to Keep Current Coverage” reads:

“Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day” of the year the legislation becomes law.”

Investor’s Business Daily clarified for all of us just want that provision truly means:

“So we can all keep our coverage, just as promised — with, of course, exceptions: Those who currently have private individual coverage won’t be able to change it. Nor will those who leave a company to work for themselves be free to buy individual plans from private carriers.”

And here’s Congressman Shadegg again, summing up the provision:

“If you have coverage now and your insurer wants to change your plan in any way, for example, to give you a premium discount for not smoking or quitting smoking, too bad. If an insurer makes such a change, the policy can no longer be sold. If this bill becomes law, choices will go away. So much for the President’s claim, that if you like it, you can keep it.”

Sure, if you already have private insurance, you can keep it… as long as the company that employs you doesn’t fold… or cancels the health insurance it offers in favor of the government plan… or as long as your private plan doesn’t change… or as long as you don’t change jobs.

That’s just about everybody.

But wait a minute… we’re not done yet.

Leaving no stone unturned, the House legislation has a special surprise for the literal handful of people that may miraculously escape the above provisions.

A few paragraphs later, the House bill states:

“The Commissioner shall establish a grace period whereby, for plan years beginning after the end of the 5-year period beginning with Y1, an employment-based health plan in operation as of the day before the first day of Y1 must meet the same requirements as apply to a qualified health benefits plan under section 101, including the essential benefit package requirement under section 121.”

In plain English… if you somehow manage to keep your private plan – if any private plans even exist in five years – the government is going to start calling the shots… your private plan will essentially be “private” in name only.

In short, everyone will eventually be forced on to ObamaCare.

The President himself has all but admitted he hasn’t read or doesn’t know all of the details of what’s in the House bill.

Yet, he continues to look the American people in the eye and claim: “If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.”

Perhaps he should read the legislation for himself, because nothing could be further from the truth.

Oh Canada…

If you want to get an idea of how ObamaCare will affect you, look no further than Canada.

Oh, the Canadian system is great – as long as you don’t get sick. The sicker you get, the worse treatment you receive.

And if your illness is life-threatening and requires immediate attention, you might as well start pricing cemetery lots.

Did you hear the Canadian woman on Mike Huckabee’s show talking about her excruciatingly painful back condition? She needed surgery, and she couldn’t even get an appointment with a surgeon. Estimated waiting period – 3 years.

One doctor told her that she was too young to qualify for the operation – that she hadn’t suffered enough.

When it got to the point where she was using a walker and wearing diapers, she scraped up enough money to travel to wicked, capitalistic America and got her back fixed skillfully and quickly.

And you’ve probably seen the television ad featuring the Canadian woman who had a malignant brain tumor and was told she couldn’t be treated for six months. In six months she would have been dead. She came to the United States and survived..

By the way, after four decades, is the Canadian system chugging along like The Little Engine That Could?

Claude Castonguay – the former health minister and chief champion of public health insurance in Canada – recently chaired a committee that reviewed the system in Quebec.

Guess what! He reported that the system is in “crisis” – the same word Obama has used to characterize our health care system.

Here’s what Castonguay’s committee concluded. (And we’re not making this up):

“We thought we could resolve the system’s problems by rationing services or injecting massive amounts of money into it…. We are proposing to give a greater role to the private sector so that people can exercise choice.”

In other words, they’ve been down that same dark road Obama wants us to travel, and now they’re on their way back.

Maybe Obama could learn something from Castonguay’s report?

Coverage for Illegal Aliens Too…?

Did you know that Congressman Dean Heller proposed an amendment that would have prevented 12-20 million illegal aliens from receiving benefits under ObamaCare?

But liberals shot down the amendment.

Here’s how Columnist Michelle Malkin described the situation in a recent column:

“Big Nanny Democrats want to ration health care for everyone in America – except those who break our immigration laws. Last week, the House Ways and Means Committee defeated an amendment that would have prevented illegal aliens from using the so-called ‘public health insurance option.’ Every Democrat on the panel voted against the measure.”

That’s right. Our so-called elected leaders in Congress, who claim to want to “bend the cost curve” on rising health care costs, want to give taxpayer funded health care to as many as 20 million illegal aliens.

Apparently Senator Max Baucus, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, was either naïve or lying when he said: “We’re not going to cover undocumented aliens, undocumented workers. That’s too politically explosive.”

You better believe it’s explosive.

A recent Rasmussen poll found that a whopping 80 percent of Americans oppose covering illegal aliens.

And here’s the kicker: When Obama and his radicals talk about the 46 million uninsured, the U.S. Census Bureau tells us that 15 percent to 22 percent of those 46 million are illegal aliens.

So, is that part of the plot… the Big Lie… just say you won’t include illegal aliens in the plan… and then, do it anyway and force American taxpayers to foot the bill?

Rationing Care and Government Bureaucracy Making Health Care Decisions for You and Your Family…

Last month, five governors actually used the word “rationing” in discussing proposed health care legislation making its way through Congress.

Obama was quick to clap his hand over their mouths. Don’t use that term. We don’t want the American people to think about having to cut back on procedures now available to them.

Then The New York Times – which apparently hadn’t gotten the word from the White House – published a lengthy article called “Why We Must Have Rationed Health Care.”

The truth is that ObamaCare is rationed care. Long waiting lines for government-approved treatments dictated by bureaucrats in Washington.

ObamaCare is not dead. It is time, however, for the American people to kill it once and for all.

Art Show Encourages People to Deface the Bible, Write Obscenities

Monday, July 27th, 2009

A publicly funded exhibition is encouraging people to deface the Bible in the name of art — and visitors have responded with abuse and obscenity.

The show includes a video of a woman ripping pages from the Bible and stuffing them into her bra, knickers and mouth.

The open Bible is a central part of ‘Made in God’s Image,’ an exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow. By the book is a container of pens and a notice saying: “If you feel you have been excluded from the Bible, please write your way back into it.”

The exhibit, Untitled 2009, was proposed by the Metropolitan Community Church, which said that the idea was to reclaim the Bible as a sacred text. But to the horror of many Christians, including the community church, visitors have daubed its pages with comments such as “This is all sexist pish, so disregard it all.” A contributor wrote on the first page of Genesis: “I am Bi, Female & Proud. I want no god who is disappointed in this.”

The Church of Scotland expressed concern, the Roman Catholic Church called the exhibit infantile, and a Christian lawyers’ group said that the exhibition was symptomatic of a broken and lawless society.

The exhibition has been created by the artists Anthony Schrag and David Malone, in association with organizations representing gay Christians and Muslims. Mr Schrag, the gallery’s artist in residence, said that he did not believe in God, but that his research for the show had underlined his respect for people of faith.

The community church, which celebrates “racial, cultural, linguistic, sexual, gender and theological diversity,” had suggested the “interactive” Bible and pens and Mr Schrag, 34, said he had been intrigued.

Knowledge of God

My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,

turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding,

and if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,

and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,

then you will understand the fear of the LORD
and find the knowledge of God.

Health Plan Provision Demands ‘End-of-Life’ Counseling

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

The version of President Obama’s universal health care plan pending in the U.S. House would require “end-of-life” counseling for senior citizens, and the former lieutenant governor for the state of New York is warning people to “protect their parents” from the measure.

At issue is section 1233 of the legislative proposal that deals with a government requirement for an “Advance Care Planning Consultation.”

Betsy McCaughey, the former New York state officer, told former president candidate Fred Thompson during an interview on his radio program the “consultation” is no more or less than an attempt to convince seniors to die.

“One of the most shocking things is page 425, where the Congress would make it mandatory absolutely that every five years people in Medicare have a required counseling session,” she said. “They will tell [them] how to end their life sooner.”

The proposal specifically calls for the consultation to recommend “palliative care and hospice” for seniors in their mandatory counseling sessions. Palliative care and hospice generally focus only on pain relief until death.

The measure requires “an explanation by the practitioner of the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice, and benefits for such services and supports that are available under this title.”

It also recommends a method for death: “the use of artificially administered nutrition and hydration.”

Then there’s a third reference that sets out reporting requirements for doctors to monitor how such end-of-life orders are followed.

Under “QUALITY REPORTING INITIATIVE,” the bill says, “For purposes of reporting data on quality measures for covered professional services furnished during 2011 and any subsequent year, to the extent that measures are available, the Secretary shall include quality measures on end of life care and advanced care planning that have been adopted or endorsed by a consensus-based organization, if appropriate. Such measures shall measure both the creation of and adherence to orders for life-sustaining treatment.”

McCaughey said she was stunned.

“As a patient advocate I am so shocked at the vicious assault on elderly people and the boomer generation,” she told Thompson. “I hope people listening will protect their parents from what is intended under this bill.”

She cited the federal provision that such counseling sessions must be administered every five years. If there’s a significant change in the person’s health or status during that time, such as an ordinary move to a nursing home because of declining physical abilities, the counseling must be administered again.

The message, she said, is “to do what’s in society’s best interests, and cut your life short.”

“Can you imagine the response of the American people (when they find out)?” Thompson asked..

McCaughey is a health policy expert who founded to stop hospital-acquired infections as well as concerning the proposed nationalization of health care.

The law also allows preferences that treatment levels set up by patients “may range from an indication for full treatment to an indication to limit some or all … interventions.”

McCaughey also said the Obama administration is suggesting that medical care be withheld from seniors based on the expected years they have left to live. Such a program already is in effect in the United Kingdom, where patients losing their eyesight to age-related macular degeneration cannot be given an eyesight-saving medication until they lose sight in one eye.

Muslim Activists Blocked Jews From Moving In

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Newfound boldness follows Obama’s demand to halt Jewish construction

In a nearly unprecedented move, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party this week worked in an official capacity to block an attempt by Jews to move into a home in Jerusalem.

The incident took place just days after the U.S. protested a legal Jewish construction project in Jerusalem and Fatah showed a newfound boldness to solidify an Arab hold of the city. The Palestinians claim eastern sections of Jerusalem as their future capital.

“We are permitted to resist any existing illegal settlement activity whether it’s in Jerusalem or anywhere else,” Dmitri Ziliani, a spokesman for the Jerusalem section of Fatah, told WND.

According to Israeli law, however, the PA cannot officially act in Jerusalem, although Israeli police this week did not arrest the Fatah activists.

On Tuesday, Ziliani and about a dozen Fatah activists, including PA Minister for Jerusalem Affairs Hatem Abdul Qader, holed themselves up inside a home in the Sheik Jarra neighborhood of eastern Jerusalem to block an attempt by Jews to move into the house.

The home was originally Jewish, but its occupants were chased out during countrywide anti-Jewish Arab riots in 1929. Arabs then squatted on the property, with one family, the Hejazi family, becoming the de facto occupants until recently.

Jewish groups say they legally purchased the property from the Hejazi family but that following Fatah pressure the family denied selling it back to the Jews despite documentation and even video evidence showing the sale went through.

Fatah the past few months has executed four Arabs for selling land to Jews.

The case is being disputed by the Arab family in an appeals court, although one court, whose ruling is legally binding, ruled in favor of the Jews. Those Jews showed up at the property Tuesday, backed up by Israeli police, only to find the Fatah activists inside.

Ziliani told WND it was not the first time Fatah acted in Jerusalem the past few weeks to thwart Jews from moving into homes in the city.

“There has been more than one house in the past four to five weeks where groups of settlers tried to break in to the house and form a new reality on the ground. We resisted and will continue to act,” Ziliani said.

Fatah is not the only agency actively working to thwart Jewish residency in eastern sections of Jerusalem.

The State Department last weekend summoned Israel’s ambassador to Washington to demand a Jewish construction project in eastern Jerusalem be immediately halted, it has been confirmed.

The Obama administration has called for a halt to Jewish construction in eastern Jerusalem and the strategic West Bank in line with Palestinian claims on eastern Jerusalem as a future capital, even though the city was never a part of any Palestinian entity.

The construction project at the center of attention, financed by Miami Beach philanthropist Irving Moskowitz, is located just meters from Israel’s national police headquarters and other government ministries. It is a few blocks from the country’s prestigious Hebrew University, underscoring the centrality of the Jewish real estate being condemned by the U.S.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly rejected the State Department demand, telling a cabinet meeting Sunday that Israel’s sovereignty over Jerusalem was not a matter up for discussion.

“Imagine what would happen if someone were to suggest Jews could not live in or purchase [property] in certain neighborhoods in London, New York, Paris or Rome,” he said.

“The international community would certainly raise protest. Likewise, we cannot accept such a ruling on East Jerusalem,” Netanyahu told ministers.

Historically, there was never any separation between eastern and western Jerusalem. The terminology came after Jordan occupied the eastern section of the city, including the Temple Mount, from 1947 until it used the territory to attack the Jewish state in 1967. Israel reunited Jerusalem when it won the 1967 Six Day War.

While the U.S. strongly protests any Jewish construction in eastern Jerusalem, it has been actively aiding Palestinians building illegally on Jewish-owned land in eastern sections of the city, WND has exposed.

NBC’s Snyderman: ‘I Was Rooting for the President to Hit a Home Run’

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Yet another stellar example of why I refer to the Mainstream Media as “Obama’s Department of Propaganda”.

NBC’s medical correspondent, Dr. Nancy Snyderman, was “rooting” for President Barack Obama to do well in selling his health care takeover during his Wednesday night press conference: “As a physician, you know, I felt like I understood the complexity of the problem. As an American citizen, I was rooting for the President to hit a home run.”

On the 10 PM EDT Hardball an hour after Obama wrapped up, Snyderman, who hosts the noon EDT weekday hour on MSNBC, fretted that he had “whiffed” in not making some persuasive points, such as using “plain talk to take the scare out of things like rationing, which basically is what’s going on now — some people get medicines, some people don’t. It didn’t come through tonight.” She also ominously warned of disaster if Obama does not prevail: “We’re going to pay big time if we don’t get this. I don’t think we’re going to be a great world power.”

Obama Nominee, Cass Sunstein : Animals Can Sue People

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

OK, that’s just plain weird. And crazy. And totally unbecoming of cabinet appointee. Can you imagine how the Obama Department of Propaganda (aka the Mainstream Media) would have treated this if it had been a Bush nominee? It would have made the front page and first 15 minutes on practically every network.

Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) has placed a hold on the nomination of legal scholar Cass Sunstein to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs at the Office of Budget and Management. Cornyn is worried that the Harvard professor may push an aggressive animal-rights agenda in the White House. Sunstein has argued in favor of outlawing sport hunting and meat-eating, and written that animals should be allowed to file lawsuits “with human beings as their representatives.”

“If Cass Sunstein is ultimately confirmed to be the regulatory czar, having an animal-rights zealot in that position for the first time could be problematic for Americans who love to hunt, who like seeing circuses, [who like] having animals, who like taking their kids to the zoo, who like feeding their children meat and milk at lunch time,” [David Martosko with the Center for Consumer Freedom] warns.

“This is a guy who I would think will use every means at his disposal to push the radical animal-rights agenda.”

Hundreds to Attempt Temple Mt. Ascent

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Well, this will make the Muslim Temple Mount squatters really angry.

Hundreds of right-wing activists are intending to attempt to march up to the Temple Mount next Thursday morning, Tisha Be’Av, in protest of the US demand to cease construction in east Jerusalem.

March organizer Gershon Salomon told the Jerusalem Post that as opposed to previous years when only a few dozen participants at most tried to go up to the mount, this year he was hoping for hundreds to protest the “US pressure to stop settlement activity, and east Jerusalem construction in particular, and also the apparent weakness of our leaders,” which he said he feared would lead to a “division of Jerusalem and the loss of the Temple Mount.”

“We’re concerned that in the end, the Temple Mount will be part of a Palestinian state, with US backing,” he told the Post. “We will say to [US President Barack] Obama, ‘Get your hands off Jerusalem and the land of Israel!”

He said flyers about the protest contained the message that “we’ll let Barack Hussein Obama and Binyamin Netanyahu know that we’re not moving from here,” as well as the words: “Go to the Bible to find out to whom this land belongs!”

Salomon expressed hope that unlike in previous years, this time, the security forces would allow the group to ascend the mount.

“What a tragedy that police have made it off limits to Jews,” he bewailed, “There is no [Israeli] flag, no talit, no siddur – and our requests to hold a reading of Megilat Eicha there on Tisha Be’av were turned down.”

He said that the site had effectively been taken over by the Wakf.

Salomon said that the demonstration was set to begin at the gates of the Temple Mount at 11:30 on Tisha Be’Av morning (Thursday), while the attempted ascent would begin at approximately 1:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon added to the pressure on Israel to freeze east Jerusalem construction.

“I urge the government of Israel to commit fully to its obligations, including to freeze settlement activity and natural growth,” said Ban in a message to a United Nations meeting in Geneva on the Middle East. “If Israel continues settlement activity, it will not only be acting contrary to international law but also to a strong international consensus.”

He said if Israel did freeze settlement activity, it would “facilitate a new environment of cooperation and common purpose from the countries in the region.”

Jesus, the Christ, the Son of the Living God

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.

US Policy: Jews in Eastern Jerusalem are Unwanted ‘Settlers’

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Get ready for more disasters to hit the U.S.

The United States State Department made it clear Tuesday that Jewish neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem are “settlements,” which U.S. President Barack Obama has called “illegitimate.”

U.S. officials previously have used the term “settlement” to describe the Har Homa neighborhood, opposite the neighborhood of Gilo on the southern end of Jerusalem. Like French Hill, Ramot and eastern Talpiot, it was restored to Israel in the Six Day War in 1967 and officially annexed to Jerusalem in 1980. Approximately 300,000 Jews live in these neighborhoods.

The Obama administration has not stated whether it makes a distinction between building in Har Homa and the other neighborhoods.

Reporters covering the daily State Department press briefing have recently asked tough-than-usual questions concerning what they see as the United States trying to determine the future borders of a Palestinian Authority state instead of allowing Israel and the PA to negotiate directly.

In Tuesday’s session, reporters peppered State Department assistant spokesman Robert Wood with questions on how the Obama administration can continue to insist on a halt to all building for Jews in eastern Jerusalem as well as Judea and Samaria in light of solid support from within Israel for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

Netanyahu told the Cabinet this week that Israel has complete sovereignty over all of Jerusalem and decides issues such as building permits. Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon declared on Tuesday, “Israel will continue to operate in accordance with its vital national interests… Our right to rule and develop Jerusalem is irrefutable.”

Even Intelligence Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor, one of the most dovish Likud Knesset Members, who previously has favored the idea of surrendering the strategic Golan Heights to Syria, took up the cause for Jerusalem Tuesday.

He asserted that the U.S. is obligated by informal commitments by former President George W. Bush, who wrote to then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon that large population Jewish centers, such as Gush Etzion and Maaleh Adumim, will remain part of Israel in any final agreement with the PA. Washington recently has lumped eastern Jerusalem with Maaleh Adumim as “settlements.” The Obama administration has rejected any commitment to the promises because they were not part of a formal agreement.

“It is of great importance to us that what the [previous] U.S. administration agreed to is not overlooked,” Meridor told reporters. “This is how countries take upon themselves obligations.” He added that the “oral understandings” are “binding on us and them.”

Survey Shows Majority Resists Paying for Cap-and-Trade

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Speaking of polls, this survey shows that we, the average working American, have very little interest in being taxed, yet again, in order to pay for junk science global warming.

Almost half of the Americans who responded to a new poll say they have concerns about the impact of carbon dioxide on the climate, but two out of three say they have no interest whatsoever in opening their wallets to pay for any mitigation.

Asked whether they “believe that man-produced carbon dioxide and other so-called greenhouse gases will induce catastrophic climate change” if unaddressed, 49.6 percent of the respondents said yes. Twenty-seven percent said no, and 23.4 percent were uncertain. The concern from Democrats and Republicans was reversed with Democrats saying 10-1 yes and Republicans saying 2-1 no.

However, when asked if they were willing to “pay significantly higher energy bills in the hope of heading off what some scientists believe to be impending climate change,” 63.6 percent said no. That included Democrats by a margin of almost 3-1 and members of the GOP by 12-1.

The WND/Wenzel survey was conducted July 12-17 using an automated telephone technology calling a random sampling of listed telephone numbers nationwide. The survey included 16 questions and carries a 95 percent confidence interval. It included 807 adult respondents. It carries a margin of error of +/– 3.4 percentage points.
