Seek Good, Not Evil

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

For I know how many are your offenses
and how great your sins.
You oppress the righteous and take bribes
and you deprive the poor of justice in the courts.

Therefore the prudent man keeps quiet in such times,
for the times are evil.

Seek good, not evil,
that you may live.
Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you,
just as you say he is.

Hate evil, love good;
maintain justice in the courts.
Perhaps the LORD God Almighty will have mercy
on the remnant of Joseph.

Therefore this is what the Lord, the LORD God Almighty, says:
“There will be wailing in all the streets
and cries of anguish in every public square.
The farmers will be summoned to weep
and the mourners to wail.

There will be wailing in all the vineyards,
for I will pass through your midst,”
says the LORD.

Lawmakers Trying to Circumvent California Proposition 8 Outcome

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

[California Family Council] spokesman Everett Rice tells OneNewsNow the legislation is Senate Bill 54. The bill was authored by Mark Leno (D-California), according to Christian Newswire.

“It would require California to validate and recognize same-sex ‘marriages’ performed outside of the state prior to November 5 of 2008,” Rice explains.

That date is when more than 52 percent of California voters approved Proposition 8 to amend their state constitution to only recognize marriages between one man and one woman. “And the legislature has systematically attempted to undermine their vote and systematically attempted to find wiggle room to expand their agenda despite the law,” Rice adds.

“Russia and Israel Talk In Secret” by Michael G. Mickey

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

It was reported earlier this week, on September 7th, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had mysteriously gone missing for some ten hours in what Israeli sources originally indicated was a visit to “a security installation inside Israel.” Three days later, however? A source inside the Kremlin said that wasn’t the case at all. Where had Netanyahu been in reality? If the Kremlin source is trustworthy, he was on a clandestine trip to Russia to meet with Russian officials, the definitive topic of discussion being an unknown.

Why So Secretive?

Why would the Israeli Prime Minister travel in secret to Russia? Could it be that Israel has made a decision to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities? It’s certainly a possibility but I suspect the tight-lipped meeting may have been related to something else that made a slight bit of news lately before quietly fading into obscurity. Let’s consider the latter for a moment.

ABC News reported the following yesterday:

There are reports that Israel may have been involved in the mysterious disappearance of a Russian cargo ship last month.

Israeli media says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went on a secret trip to Moscow earlier this week.

There is speculation that his visit may be linked to the peculiar story of the cargo ship, the Arctic Sea, which disappeared during its trip from Finland to Algeria.

The Russian government then announced that the ship, with its cargo of timber, had been hijacked and that the Russian navy had rescued the crew.

Now, one senior Israeli figure close to the intelligence services has told the BBC that the Arctic Sea was in fact carrying an advanced Russian air defence system bound for Iran.

Israel involved in state-sanctioned piracy of ships loaded with timber? That doesn’t make sense, but if Russia was smuggling advanced weapons systems into Syria, Iran or both that could hamper or prevent Israel from defending its national interests? That’s an animal of a whole different variety! Think about it.

If Israeli Mossad agents played an active role in the reported hijacking of the Arctic Sea, particularly if Russia was caught red-handed aiding Israel’s enemies, tensions between Israel and Russia are undoubtedly very high right now. Could this be why the two sides elected to sit down for a quiet heart-to-heart talk they’re apparently more than content to keep between themselves? Quite possibly. A Haaretz story seems to corroborate the ABC story linked above on several key points.

According to Haaretz, rumors persist that the Arctic Sea was carrying advanced S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems that were en route to either Syria or Iran.

According to Haaretz, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in keeping with the story as told to us by ABC, has indicated there was nothing on board the ship but a load of timber, an odd cargo for a group of pirates to seize a ship for weeks and relocate it “thousands of kilometers” from what was to be its original destination, not to mention the fact that Russia dispatched an enormous force to recover the ship, its crew and its alleged cargo of wood.

TIME magazine is reporting the following concerning Russia’s rescue mission, raising questions I can’t help but suspect, based on everything I’ve read on the topic and shared in this commentary, could only be answered by high-ranking Israeli and Russian government officials (which I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for):

“On orders from the Kremlin, Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov sent a completely disproportionate force, including destroyers and submarines, to look for the vessel. It took five days for them to find it, the Defense Ministry said, even though the Foreign Ministry later announced that it was fully aware of the Arctic Sea’s coordinates the entire time. To fly the alleged pirates and the crew back to Moscow — a group of only 19 men — Russia dispatched two enormous military-cargo planes. And then on their arrival, the ship’s crew was detained along with the alleged hijackers for days of questioning, with no access to their families or the media.

“Even from the basic facts, without assumptions, it is clear that this was not just piracy,” says Mikhail Voitenko, editor of the Russian maritime journal Sovfrakht, which has been tracking unusual incidents on the high seas for decades. “I’ve never seen anything like this. These are some of the most heavily policed waters in the world. You cannot just hide a ship there for weeks without government involvement.”

If I’m reading Voitenko’s opinion correctly, he doesn’t believe any group of pirates, short of being the nationally-sponsored variety if you catch my drift, could pull off an operation like the one pulled off against the Arctic Sea for a host of reasons.

All of the above reads like something out of a Tom Clancy novel, doesn’t it? It certainly stirs the imagination if nothing else.

Unanswered Questions

Did the Mossad grab a payload of advanced Russian anti-aircraft systems headed for Iran, Syria or both and make off with them for a few weeks? If so, what was the mission’s goal other than to keep the weapons out of Iranian and Syrian hands? Did the Mossad think it was merely intercepting some black market Russian military equipment on its way to the Middle East when it boarded the ship but subsequently realized it had intercepted a legitimate covert Russian military operation instead? Could it be, God forbid, there was something aboard the Arctic Sea far more deadly than S-300 anti-aircraft systems? We will likely never know the answers to these questions with any clarity but TIME raises some questions I think one would be hard-pressed to believe have been answered in Russia’s official version of the events in question, the three following being prime examples:

  • Why, with so many other ships carrying much more valuable cargo, would the hijackers target the Arctic Sea and its small load of timber?
  • Why didn’t the ship send out a distress signal?
  • Why did Israeli President Shimon Peres pay a surprise visit to Russia a day after the ship was rescued?

That’s right, folks! We now know that both Israeli president Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have met with high-ranking Russian officials in peculiar manners since the Arctic Sea incident took place.

Of Prophetic Interest

It’s common knowledge here that bible prophecy indicates Russia is going to be up to its armpits in involvement with Iran in the last days, particularly where the Gog-Magog attack described in the 38th and 39th chapters of the book of Ezekiel is concerned. As such, the possibility that there was far more to the hijacking of the Arctic Sea than we’re being told should come as no surprise to those of us waiting and watching for the fulfillment of bible prophecy to occur on this front.

Assuming for a moment there absolutely was Israeli involvement in the incident in question, blatant falsehoods being told to the public by Russia and Israel to cover the entire incident up may have been an agreed upon ending to a potentially deadly confrontation as this outcome would permit both Moscow and Jerusalem to save face publicly, neither side having won or lost anything but credibility with the other. Such an end game scenario would be especially beneficial to the Russians at a time when the Russian government is standing in the way of the entire world punishing Iran for pursuing what I believe we can all safely assume is nuclear weaponry at this point. Just today, for example, the BBC is reporting that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is warning everyone against attacking Iran militarily or even imposing any additional sanctions on Iran that might slow its nuclear program.

Conclusion

The Middle East is, in typical form, a powder keg ready to explode at any moment. As in times past, in keeping with the ways of the former Soviet Union and bible prophecy’s predictions for the future, Mother Russia is up to her eyeballs in aiding Israel’s enemies and their plots to destroy the Jewish nation from the face of the earth. Essentially, all I’m trying to convey here is God’s prophetic plan remains perfectly on course to fulfillment, particularly if what we’ve been told by the Russians in their official story concerning the hijacking of the Arctic Sea is what experts seem to believe it is, namely one whopper of a lie!

Keep looking up, not for S-300 anti-aircraft missiles but for Jesus Christ, our Lord! Surely His return draws near!

9-13-09 UPDATE: Could Israeli PM Netanyahu’s secret visit with Russian leaders have been a diversionary tactic? (Does anyone other than me sense we are on the brink of something BIG taking place?)

“Obama Lied, His Credibility Died” By J. Matt Barber

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

On Wednesday night President Obama threw a universal healthcare Hail Mary. The call? Incomplete pass.

His much anticipated address to a joint session of Congress promised to finally – for real, this time – provide details about his “healthcare reform plan” (the government takeover of about 20 percent of America’s once free market).

Instead, the President regurgitated the same worn-out talking points, tired platitudes and baseless rhetoric he’s been spouting for months, generating more confusion than clarity.

As his approval ratings sink faster than an Olds off the bridge Chappaquiddick, the speech-giver-in-chief’s latest lecture was a transparently desperate attempt to salvage his signature issue and, by extension, the very presidency he’s wagered on it. He even went so far as to breathlessly suggest this time that a failure to implement his governmental healthcare scheme means that “more Americans will die.” It was embarrassing.

This was Obama’s umpteenth healthcare homily amid an average of more than one speech per day since he’s taken office. True, it’s better he should run his mouth than actually attempt to govern, but, nonetheless, it’s become annoying that he continues to stubbornly refuse America’s, “Not only no but h— no,” answer to his persistent “pretty please.”

“I am not the first president to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last,” he proclaimed. To that end he may succeed. Indeed, in light of America’s boisterous rejection of his socialist vision, future presidents may avoid – like Harry Reid avoids Nevada – the polarizing issue altogether.

As for the speech: I’ll leave it to other pundits to tackle the President’s arrogantly partisan, condescending and less-than-convincing Windy City tough-guy tone. Instead, I want to address – at the risk of being “called out” by chief thug, Rahm Emanuel (scary, I know) – the fact that Obama, with a straight face, repeatedly lied to the American people (the teleprompter made him do it). I was reminded of my eight year-old, standing before me with chocolaty crumb covered cheeks, saying, “Cookie? What cookie?”

The presidential untruths were plentiful, ranging from “death panel” denials to promises of illegal immigrant exclusions. But, for now, let’s focus on one POTUS’ double whopper:

During his speech the President assured us: “Under our plan no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.” So, naturally, Planned Parenthood, NOW, NARAL and all the other lefty pro-abort wactivist groups are up in arms today, decrying the President for discriminating against women and setting back “reproductive rights” by decades.

Yeah, right. Not a peep. And the silence is deafening. Obama – in a clear attempt to placate the vast majority of Americans who refuse to allow their hard earned money to go toward dismembering the smallest of their fellow citizens – made the disingenuous claim with the standard winky-winky-noddy-nod to his pro-abort, man-hating feminist toadies.

However, as Cybercast News has pointed out: “The House bill mandates that government-run insurance exchanges where people would buy insurance with government subsidies include at least one plan that covers abortion. Also, committees in both the House and Senate rejected amendments that would have explicitly forbid (sic) federal money from going to pay for abortion under the plan.”

The Capps Amendment even affirmatively permits taxpayer funded insurers to cover abortions, requiring “that at least one insurer in the federal insurance exchange” does so. Furthermore, the Secretary of Health and Human Services – pro-abortion radical Kathleen Sebelius – gets “to decide if the public option itself would provide abortion coverage.” (Wonder how that’ll work out for the unborn?)

Then there’s Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD). She successfully lobbied the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee to adopt an Amendment that would require insurers accepting federal tax dollars to cover services provided by groups such as Planned Parenthood. (Last time I checked, they weren’t performing skin exfoliations.)

In fact, when specifically asked by Utah Sen. Orin Hatch whether the plan will require taxpayer funded abortions, Mikulski was forced to admit that “it would provide for any service deemed medically necessary or medically appropriate.”

When additionally asked to include language that would expressly prohibit abortion coverage, Mikulski responded: “No. I would not be willing to do that at this time.”

The abortion mandate alone is a deal breaker for the majority of Americans and Obama knows that. So he had to lie. It’s just too bad for him that the American people aren’t nearly as stupid as he gives them credit for.

Obama’s School-‘Safety’ Chief: Use ‘Safety’ to Force Homosexual Agenda on Students

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

President Obama’s choice to monitor school safety once boasted that he introduced homosexual advocacy into the school system in Massachusetts by manipulating the message presented to lawmakers.

The revelations about Kevin Jennings, who was named assistant deputy secretary for the office of Safe & Drug Free Schools in the U.S. Department of Education, come just as several of Obama’s “czars” have come under scrutiny for their actions, opinions and affiliations.

Environmental adviser Van Jones resigned last weekend after revelations of his links to communism and his advocacy for the movement that contends the U.S. government conspired to allow or cause 9/11. Harvard professor Cass Sunstein, confirmed this week by the Senate as the administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs at the Office of Budget and Management, was exposed for his belief that animals should be given legal rights like humans.

Technically, Jennings is not one of Obama’s “czars,” who are special advisers to the president accountable to no one but the president. Jennings was named to a post in the Department of Education. However, his hiring did not require legislative oversight, such as the Senate vetting process required for other appointees.

Jennings is the founder and former executive director of the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network, which “works to make schools safe for all students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity,” according to the government announcement of his appointment.

In his position, he’s responsible for oversight of programs that involve “safety” for public schools across the nation.

In 1995, he gave a speech in which he described how he has used the concept of “safety” in schools to promote homosexual advocacy in public schools in Massachusetts. He gave a speech called “Winning the Culture War” at the Human Rights Campaign Fund Leadership Conference on March 5 of that year.

Excerpts have been posted on the website of MassResistance, where chief Brian Camenker has worked to oppose the demands of homosexual activists.

In the speech, Jennings described how he was concerned about being described as promoting homosexuality, so he chose to campaign on the idea of “safety” instead.

“If the radical right can succeed in portraying us as preying on children, we will lose. Their language – ‘promoting homosexuality’ is one example – is laced with subtle and not-so-subtle innuendo that we are ‘after their kids,'” he told the conference.

“We must learn from the abortion struggle, where the clever claiming of the term ‘pro-life’ allowed those who opposed abortion on demand to frame the issue to their advantage, to make sure that we do not allow ourselves to be painted into a corner before the debate even begins.”

He continued, “In Massachusetts the effective reframing of this issue was the key to the success of the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth. We immediately seized upon the opponent’s calling card – safety – and explained how homophobia represents a threat to students’ safety by creating a climate where violence, name-calling, health problems, and suicide are common. Titling our report ‘Making Schools Safe for Gay and Lesbian Youth,’ we automatically threw our opponents onto the defensive and stole their best line of attack. This framing short-circuited their arguments and left them back-pedaling from day one.”

Camenker called Jennings’ work the “landmark” speech on how to portray the promotion of homosexuality as a “safety” issue in order to gain favor in the eye of the public.

Said Jennings, “Finding the effective frame for your community is the key to victory. It must be linked to universal values that everyone in the community has in common. In Massachusetts, no one could speak up against our frame and say, ‘Why, yes, I do think students should kill themselves’: this allowed us to set the terms for debate.”

MassResistance also has reported that it was Jennings’ group that in 2000 held a seminar for public school teens on the benefits of “fisting.” The group handed out a document called “The Little Black Book” to young teens, a pornographic homosexual how-to that includes a directory of homosexual bars.

Patrick Swayze Dies of Pancreatic Cancer at 57

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

As a cancer patient, any time someone I know or have heard of, dies of cancer, it hits fairly close to home. Pray for Mr. Swayze’s family and friends during this difficult time.

LOS ANGELES — Patrick Swayze personified a particular kind of masculine grace both on and off screen, from his roles in films like “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost” to the way he carried himself in his long fight with pancreatic cancer.

Swayze died from the illness on Monday in Los Angeles, his publicist said. He was 57.

“Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months,” Annett Wolf said in a statement Monday evening. She declined to give details.

Fans of the actor were saddened to learn in March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from an especially deadly form of cancer. He continued working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting “The Beast,” an A&E network drama series for which he had already made the pilot.

Swayze said he chose not to use painkillers while making “The Beast” because they would have taken the edge off his performance. The show drew a respectable 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran this year, but A&E said it reluctantly decided not to renew it for a second season.

When he first went public with the illness, some reports gave him only weeks to live, but his doctor said his situation was “considerably more optimistic” than that. Swayze acknowledged that time might be running out given the grim nature of the disease.

“I’d say five years is pretty wishful thinking,” Swayze told ABC’s Barbara Walters in early 2009. “Two years seems likely if you’re going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I’d better get a fire under it.”

And that’s exactly what he did. In February, Swayze wrote an op-ed piece in the Washington Post titled, “I’m Battling Cancer. How About Some Help, Congress?” in which he urged senators and representatives to vote for the maximum funding for the National Institutes of Health to fight cancer as part of the economic stimulus package.

He also appeared in the September 2008 live television event “Stand Up to Cancer,” where he pleaded: “I keep dreaming of a future, a future with a long and healthy life, a life not lived in the shadow of cancer, but in the light. … I dream that the word `cure’ will no longer be followed by the words `is impossible.”‘

Senate Votes to Cut Off ACORN Housing Funding

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

As we umpires say in baseball: “strike three, you’re out”.

WASHINGTON — The Senate voted Monday to block the Housing and Urban Development Department from giving grants to ACORN, a community organization under fire in several voter-registration fraud cases.

The 83-7 vote would deny housing and community grant funding to ACORN, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

The action came as the group is suffering from bad publicity after a duo of conservative activists posing as a prostitute and her pimp released hidden-camera videos in which ACORN employees in Baltimore gave advice on house-buying and how to account on tax forms for the woman’s income. Two other videos, aired on the FOX News Channel, depict similar situations in ACORN offices in Brooklyn and Washington, D.C.

The Senate’s move would mean that ACORN would not be able to win HUD grants for programs such as counseling low-income people on how to get mortgages and for fair housing education and outreach.

Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb., said that ACORN has received $53 million in taxpayer funds since 1994 and that the group was eligible for a wider set of funding in the pending legislation, which funds housing and transportation programs.

Just last week, the Census Bureau severed its ties with ACORN, saying it does not want the group’s help in outreach efforts on the decennial count.

In recent months, Republicans have become increasingly critical of the census’ ties with ACORN. The group, which advocates for poor people, conducted a massive voter registration effort last year and became a target of conservatives when some employees were accused of submitting false registration forms with names such as “Mickey Mouse.”

Just last week, prosecutors in Miami-Dade County, Fla., arrested 11 people for falsifying hundreds of voter applications during a registration drive last year. ACORN tipped the authorities off to the problem.

On the hidden camera controversy, ACORN says it has fired the employees involved but lashed out at FOX News.

In a statement, Bertha Lewis, ACORN’s chief organizer, claimed the tapes had been doctored and violated Maryland’s wiretapping laws. She promised to sue FOX News.

Another ACORN spokesman, Scott Levenson, said the group believes the voices of the couple in the video shot in the Brooklyn office were dubbed over to alter the conversation and make the interaction appear more objectionable than it may have been.

ACORN sent a letter to FOX News President Roger Ailes, stating that the videotape was deceptive and had been dubbed over, and asking the network to stop showing the videos, Levensen said.

FOX News spokeswoman Dana Klinghoffer said the tapes were vetted editorially before they were aired.

The video was created by James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles and posted on BigGovernment.com, where O’Keefe identifies himself as an activist filmmaker.

Breitbart.com, which owns BigGovernment.com, did not immediately respond to a call and e-mails seeking comment.

On Monday, Lewis called the Senate’s vote a “rare and politically convenient step” but noted that the group gets most of its funding from “its members and other supporters, so the decision will have little impact on overall operations.”

The Senate measure is scheduled to pass this week and must be reconciled with a companion House measure that passed in July before becoming law.
