An interview with Joel Busner of B’Ahavat Yisrael

After moving to Israel almost 10 years ago, American Jewish activist Joel Busner never thought that he’d be spearheading a campaign to help reclaim Jewish agricultural land in the Galilee that has been commandeered by Arabs, but that is precisely what he’s doing. His charitable organization, B’Ahavat Yisrael, (with love of Israel) has focused it’s energy and resources on delivering food packages and providing essential services to beleaguered Jews in such places as Sderot and to those Jewish evacuees from Gaza, but now his motto has become, “it’s time to take our country back” as he addresses the issues of saving Jewish land in the Galilee, teaching Jews about the importance of agricultural skills and reviving the concept of Jewish labor.

I sat down with Joel Busner to hear of his program.

Q: Can you give us some background on the claim that Jewish land in Israel is being taken over by Arabs?

A: Arabs can now buy homes in Jewish villages such as Poriya, where I live, in the Lower Galilee just outside of Tiberias. All over the country, in such places as Lod, Ramle, Nazareth Elite, Acko, Yaffo, etc, Arabs are buying and Jews are leaving. The Negev is being taken over by blatant Bedouin land grabs and there are thousands upon thousands of illegal houses all over the Negev. Jewish shepherds and farmers are being driven out of business by the Bedouin thieves. Jewish farmers in the Galilee are being bullied on a daily basis by their Arab neighbors. According to a Jerusalem Post article of August 15, 2009, wealthy individuals from Arab states such as tycoons from the Gulf, who do not have diplomatic relations with Israel, have recently purchased hundreds of dunams of agricultural land in the Galilee and the Israel Lands Administration said it could not interfere with the transaction since the lands are privately owned.

Q: Are any elected officials speaking out about this problem?

A: Mayor Shimon Gapso of Nazareth Illit was recently quoted as saying, “The State of Israel’s plan was that 45% of the Galilee will be Jewish by 2010. In reality, we are less than 40%, and if the State doesn’t make sure to bring Jews here en masse, we will lose the Galilee”.

Q: Why do you think that Jews are selling land to Arabs?

A: Arab gangs are terrorizing Jewish farmers and ranchers to force them to give up their lands. There are many who are paying these Arabs protection money to be left alone. Many are selling out to Arabs fearing they will be left with nothing if they don’t, as they know full well that the Israeli police and legal system will do nothing to protect their rights. Demographically, the Galilee now has an Arab majority and the Negev is quickly following suit. What is being done by the Israeli leadership? Virtually nothing.

All over the country, if a Jews wants to build a home, you must pay for land, get permits, etc. You must pay Arnona (property tax). Land is expensive if zoned for residential construction. You pay for garbage collection, water and sewage, and an over bloated bureaucracy. That is, of course, if you live in a Jewish area. On the other hand, Arab-only-occupied cities and villages are different. They build wherever they want and whatever they want. Permits? You have to be joking. Years ago the Jews of Judea and Samaria complained about how small their housing plots were and that they had to purchase plots from the Israeli authorities (long term lease) while the neighboring Arab occupied villages did whatever they pleased. Now if you go to the Arab dominated areas throughout pre-1967 State of Israel you will see exactly the same thing. On state land, JNF land, private land owned by Jews, or whatever, you will see Arabs building huge homes and the law be damned. You will even hear them shooting their guns off at weddings at night.

Q: You mentioned the Jewish National Fund. Accusations have been leveled against them for allowing Jewish owned land to be illegally seized by Arab squatters. Can you tell us more information about that?

A: Arabs have constructed communities on some 320 acres (1,300 dunams) of Jewish-owned land in the Jerusalem area and the JNF has done nothing to prevent this illegal seizure of land. The communities of Kalandiya, Kfar Akev and Shuafat, in northern Jerusalem – was purchased by the JNF in the early 1900s from Jewish donor monies, for the sole purpose of serving as land where Jews could live. Illegal Arab construction on the land began after 1948 and has been ongoing, but that most of it was carried out in the last 15-20 years, with some apartment complexes added in 2004 and other construction is still ongoing.

Q: What can Jews in Israel do to maintain ownership of their agricultural land?

A: We must begin to promote the concept of Jewish labor. For many years, we at B’Ahavat Yisrael have recruited hundreds of Israeli youths for fruit picking and other forms of manual labor. The early pioneers understood that to be normal, Jews had to engage in various sorts of labor. By doing that they earned a country. Today Jews are discouraged from doing manual labor. Instead you have Arabs, Thais, Africans, etc, doing more and more jobs. Then you go to the States and find Itzik from Israel moving your neighbor’s furniture. Arabs who live here have less living expenses and are at an advantage. Thai workers who live 5 or 6 in a small caravan and don’t pay taxes and send every shekel back to Thailand are at a huge advantage. Take out these scab workers and you will create a slightly higher paid Jewish worker. Not everyone is suited for a computer job and not everyone can be a doctor and Israel has far too many lawyers. Personally, I’d rather pay a half shekel more for my lettuce but know that the money is staying in our economy.

Q: What are your immediate objectives in implementing this plan?

A: For the last few years we have dreamed of having a Center in the Galilee. We wanted to build a special place; a place where Jewish youths from the Diaspora could come together with Jewish youths from Israel with a common purpose; to rediscover our land, our heritage. A place that will teach real Torat Eretz Yisrael; a center that will demonstrate that Jews can use a shovel in the morning and sit and learn Torah in the afternoon. A place that will go to the olive groves and assist Jewish farmers so that the olive oil can advertise ‘Jewish Holy Land Olive Oil’. .

On November 22, 2009 in New York, Friends of B’Ahavat Yisrael will be hosting a special dinner titled ‘Save the Galilee’. Proceeds from donations will go to the building of the B’Ahavat Yisrael Torah V’Avoda Ivrit Youth Center (Jewish Youth Center for Torah and Labor) in the Lower Galilee. During the dinner there will be a presentation about a special business exhibition and a new and exciting program called ‘Buy a Piece of Israel’ which will allow Jews everywhere to purchase parts of agricultural plots in the Galilee with other Jews and have those plots managed by a Jewish owned company with Jewish laborers. Plots are either being bought from Arabs or from distressed Jewish owners who are about to sell to Arabs. Every plot purchased is another plot saved by and for the Jewish nation. Proceeds from each plot will be divided between the management and the investors. We see this as the perfect ideological investment and ask all concerned Jews to participate. The dinner will take place at the Rockwood Park Jewish Center in Howard Beach, Queens. Homosexuality ‘Not a Civil Right’

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

The chairman of the Orange County (California) Board of Education says she is “appalled” that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is asking schools to set aside a day to honor a controversial homosexual activist.

Schwarzenegger signed a bill earlier this week creating an annual day of recognition for Harvey Milk. The designation of each May 22 as “Harvey Milk Day” encourages schools around the state to commemorate the murdered homosexual politician and activist.

Last month, the Orange County Board of Education voted unanimously (5-0) to oppose the creation of Harvey Milk Day. Dr. Alexandria Coronado, chairman of that board, says she is “absolutely furious” that the homosexual community is claiming that passage of the Harvey Milk bill is a civil rights victory.

“I think it just absolutely denigrates the entire civil rights movement. Homosexuality is not a civil right,” Coronado emphasizes.

“Who’s Behind the White House War on Fox News?” by Michelle Malkin

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

White House interim communications director Anita Dunn assumed the role of lead Fox News Channel-basher this weekend. The attack was a dud. The left-leaning Nation magazine ridiculed President Obama’s press shop for turning him into the “whiner-in-chief.” AOL media columnist Jeff Bercovici called the war on Fox a “loser’s strategy” that “signals weakness.” And that’s the friendly fire.

Dunn found refuge in rival CNN’s green zone, where she blasted Fox News as a “research arm of the Republican Party.” Unhappy with headline-generating Fox News hosts who have wrested control of the news cycle from Team Obama, Dunn complained about “opinion journalism masquerading as news.”

Well, that is certainly an apt description of an Obama-sympathizing “news” segment on “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” which purported to “fact check” a Saturday Night Live skit mocking the president’s lack of accomplishments.

Yes, the “real” news fact-checked the fake news to cover for Obama’s deficiencies. Zero complaints from the White House communications office about that. Or about authentic CNN journalist Anderson Cooper using his prime-time show to make vulgar sexual jokes about Tea Party activists. Or about the joint White House-ABC News health care reform infomercial that aired earlier this summer.

Some “opinion journalism” is more equal than others.

Debates about the blurred lines between opinion and journalism are all well and good. But don’t the talking-points crafters in the Oval Office have something better to do than carp about the talking points they don’t like hearing on the one cable network that hasn’t been completely overrun by Obama sycophants? (Full disclosure: I’ve been a Fox News contributor since 2001.)

Where are the seasoned press gurus to help Nobel Peace Prize-winner Barack Obama appear more presidential and less petty and thuggish?

New York-Based Muslim’s Web Site Calls for God to ‘Kill the Jews’

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

I’m going to make two observations about this:
1) His right to post these type of messages is absolutely protected by the First Amendment.
2) Why has he not been ostracized from his local mosque and also where are all the “peace loving” Muslims condemning his behavior?

A New York bicycle cabbie who last year used his Web site to mock the beheading of journalist Daniel Pearl posted a prayer calling for the murder of Jews and exhorting Muslims to “throw liquid drain cleaner in their faces.” And there’s nothing authorities can do about it.

Yousef al-Khattab, who runs and pedals a pedicab in New York City, insists the words he has posted on his Web site are a prayer, and not a threat — and that his hatred is protected by the First Amendment.

“If it was a threat, I’d be in jail,” the 41-year-old al-Khattab told from his home in Queens. “I’m asking my God, that’s what it is. Every supporter of Israel is an enemy combatant and the immune system is not anti-Semitic for resisting disease.”

Al-Khattab removed the Oct. 7 post a “few days ago” and replaced it with a post about a mosque in Jerusalem.

An American-born Jew formerly known as Joseph Cohen who converted to Islam after attending an Orthodox rabbinical school — al-Khattab called on Allah to carry out “wrath on the Jewish occupiers of Palestine & their supporters.”

“Please throw liquid drain cleaner in their faces,” he wrote. ” … burn their flammable sukkos while they sleep … Ya Allah (Oh God) answer my duaa (prayer).” (“Sukkos” refers to the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, during which Jews build and eat their meals in outdoor huts known as “sukkahs,” which represent the huts the Jews lived in during their exodus from Egypt.)

Judge Andrew Napolitano, Fox News’ senior legal analyst, said the posting is “absolutely protected” by the First Amendment.

“All innocuous speech is absolutely protected and all speech is innocuous when there is time for more speech to rebut or address it,” he told “So even if this Web site were to call on Muslim freedom fighters to kill Jews, as long as there is time for someone else to challenge this with words, then the originals words are lawful.”

The blog post, signed by al-Khattab, notes that it should be taken only as a “prayer” and not as an incitement to genocide. But officials at the Anti-Defamation League are worried about its ability to influence others.

“Whether it’s a poem or a prayer, however he describes it, he decided to post it. And if you’re going to be posting a prayer like that, you just don’t know who’s going to read that and who might be influenced by it,” said Oren Segal, director of the ADL’s Center on Extremism. “There’s a certain amount of responsibility behind posting your own blog. We take it very seriously.”

Segal said the New York Police Department is “aware” of the blog post. Calls to Paul Browne, deputy commissioner of public information for the NYPD, were not immediately returned. has been monitored by the ADL since 2006, Segal said, and has roughly five to 10 active members who frequently distribute anti-Semitic literature in front of mosques throughout New York City.

“This is a group we’ve monitored for a while,” Segal said. “This is nothing particularly new, but then again, [the threat] has the ability to potentially influence people.”

The posting reflects the “prayer of every true Muslim,” al-Khattab said.

“Every true Muslim would say the same thing,” he continued. “Most people would agree that any occupied people have the right to defend themselves.”

FBI spokesman Richard Kolko told last year that it’s difficult to bring criminal charges against operators of Web sites like unless specific threats are made.

‘It’s usually a First Amendment right if they don’t cross the threshold of making threats,” Kolko said. “There’s nothing we should or could do.”

Gregg Zukowski, president of the NYC Pedicab Association, said al-Khattab has been riding a pedicab in midtown Manhattan “on and off” for the past several years without any reported incidents. Zukowski was unaware of al-Khattab’s Web site.

“He’s just like one of a 1,000 guys who ride a pedicab,” Zukowski told “There’s nothing that sticks out about him in particular.”

Teen ‘Muslim to Christian’ Convert Order Back to Ohio by Florida Judge

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

This is not a good thing for Rifqa Bary, the teen who ran away from home, in fear of her life, after she converted from Islam to Christianity. Continue to pray for this brave young lady.

Fathima Bary

A 17-year old girl who fled from her home, fearing her Muslim parents would kill her for converting to Christianity, must go back to Ohio, a Florida judge ruled Tuesday.

Judge Daniel Dawson ruled Ohio has jurisdiction over the case involving the teen, Rifqa Bary.

Before the girl gets sent back, the judge says he needs immigration papers proving her status in the U.S. and proof from the state of Florida that she can continue her virtual schooling and receive credit in Ohio.

She is expected to be placed in foster care when she returns and will also be provided with psychiatric evaluations. Her parents will also receive psychiatric evaluations.

Rifqa can be back in Ohio as early as this week, or by an Oct. 23 follow-up hearing.

Rifqa fled to Florida after her parents, Mohamed and Aysha Bary, learned that she was baptized earlier this year without their knowledge. The parents reported her missing to Columbus, Ohio, Police on July 19. Weeks later, using cell phone and computer records, police tracked the girl to the Rev. Blake Lorenz, pastor of the Orlando-based Global Revolution Church.

In an emotional six-minute interview with WFTV in Florida, Rifqa, who met Lorenz through an online Facebook group, said she expects to be killed if she is forced to return to Ohio.

“If I had stayed in Ohio, I wouldn’t be alive,” she said. “In 150 generations in family, no one has known Jesus. I am the first — imagine the honor in killing me.”

But a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation found no credible threats to Bary.

Contacted by, Rifqa’a father Mohamed Bary said he has no intentions of harming his daughter.

“I love my daughter and I want her to come back to the family,” he said, declining further comment.

The Barys reportedly emigrated from Sri Lanka in 2000 to seek medical treatment for Rifqa, who lost the sight in her right eye following an accident at home.

Tom Trento is director of the Florida Security Council, an organization dedicated to the defeat of Islamic terrorism. While concerned about the prospect of young Rifqa being returned to a threatening environment, he is pleased that the judge has ordered the parents’ lawyer to turn over the appropriate immigration papers.

“Judge Dawson said [basically that] ‘custody may be a right of the state of Ohio, but this young girl is not leaving Florida until I see the immigration papers from the Barys that I have been asking for.'”

Trento says he is concerned that if young Rifqa is returned to Ohio, she might be deported back to Sri Lanka with her family, or they might take her there voluntarily.

“This intermediary step to custody of the state is just a front, just a guise,” he comments. “Our sources say that she is going to be given over very quickly to the family, and then very quickly returned to Sri Lanka where she’ll go into re-education camp.”
