Young People Could Bear Brunt of Insurance Mandate

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

The burden of health care “reform” become more and more evident.

Young adults are in for a wake-up call if health care reform passes.

For the first time ever, the federal government is going to require that everybody obtain health insurance coverage. For those who have insurance through their employers, the so-called individual mandate may have very little impact. But for young adults, many of whom are not currently covered, the health care bill will add a new and costly expense to their budgets.

“The Census Bureau tells us there are 18 million people between the ages of 18 and 35 who are uninsured — roughly half of the uninsured population are younger people in that age group,” said Anne Kim, with the non-profit think tank Third Way.

The individual mandate has teeth to it, and anyone who refuses to get coverage will be fined under the health care package.

In the Senate bill, the fines start low at $95 a year in 2014, and they eventually rise to between $750 and $2,250, depending on the income of the person being fined. In the House bill, the fine is calculated as 2.5 percent of the income of the person being penalized.

Jim Capretta, a fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, said the fines are “relatively low” when compared to the costs of coverage that people are being told to assume.

“Some of the costs of an individual coverage or a family policy could be as high as $10,000 or $14,000 in a few years’ time,” he said. “And so there’s thousands of dollars of premiums at stake and the fine is maybe only $750.”

The federal government wants to require young, healthy people to buy insurance because if they don’t, premiums for everyone else will go up. Insurance companies need low-maintenance, young customers on their rolls so they can raise money to cover benefits for less-healthy people the health care bill will require them to insure.

“If you don’t have a mandate that gets in the young people who are cheaper, you’re going to see average premiums rise,” said Jim Kessler, vice president for policy with Third Way. “There’s no way around that.”

Democrats to Americans, on Health Care Reform Legislation: “None of Your Business”

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Despite Obama’s lie to Americans that he would be the most “transparent” administration in history, despite the far reaching affects of the health care “reform” legislation, quite possibly the most important piece of legislation to be considered in recent history, the Democrats have just told all of us “it’s none of your business”.
In their latest version of “transparency” and “bi-partisan cooperation”, Obama and Democrat leaders have decided to work out the final version of health care reform behind closed doors.
I wonder what it’s going to take in order to convince you of the horrible mistake you’ve made by putting these people in power? Just wondering…

WASHINGTON – President Obama and congressional Democratic leaders agreed Tuesday to bypass a conference committee and keep negotiations to reconcile the Senate and House health care reform bills a closed-door affair.

They concluded that the House will work off the Senate’s version, amend it and send it back to the Senate for final passage, according to a House leadership aide, speaking on condition of anonymity in order to discuss the private meeting.

Obama held an Oval Office meeting Tuesday evening with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his No. 2, Sen. Dick Durbin joined in by phone.

Obama himself will take a hands-on role in the final health care talks, convening another meeting with congressional leaders at the White House on Wednesday, the aide said.

The aim is to get a final bill to Obama’s desk before the State of the Union policy address sometime in early February.

Democrats reacted defensively to criticism that they are taking the final, most crucial stage of the debate behind closed doors, contending they’ve conducted a transparent process with hundreds of public meetings and legislation posted online. Republicans seized on a newly released letter from the head of the C-SPAN network calling on congressional leaders to open the final talks to the public, and cited Obama’s campaign trail pledge to do just that.

Asked about that promise, Pelosi remarked, without elaboration: “There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail.” [in other words, he lied. -ed.]

There is a little bit of good news though…

OneNewsNow turned to Douglas Johnson, legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), to determine if the strategy of Democrats to bypass that can be used.

“The Democratic leadership that controls both houses of Congress can take a shortcut that avoids a conference committee, but they still need a majority of the members of the House of Representatives to vote to pass the final bill — and they still need 60 votes in the Senate to pass the final bill,” he informs. “So, there’s no shortcut that avoids those requirements.”

Johnson says that if as few as 40 House Democrats can be convinced to oppose the legislation, it will not move forward to the president’s desk, meaning the issue would not be settled in time for Obama’s upcoming State of the Union address. Establishing a formal conference would create enough time for Republicans to filibuster, though, so this movement for an informal process would eliminate any chance of Republican support in the Senate.

Michigan Muslim High School Students Wear Sweatshirts Glorifying 9/11 Jihad Attacks

Think what would have happened if an American would have done something similar. The media would still be pounding the issue to pieces. As it is, it will be ignored as soon as possible.

DEARBORN, Mich. — About 15 Arab-American students at Edsel Ford High School are in trouble over a class sweatshirt they had made over the holiday break.

The class of 2011 sweatshirt has the number 11 made to look like the World Trade Center Towers. The school’s mascot, a Thunderbird, is seen flying toward the number.

Under the graphic, a tagline reads, “You can’t bring us down.”

The students wore the hooded sweatshirts to school Monday. They were immediately sent to the principal’s office.

The sweatshirts were confiscated.

“What took place here today was an inappropriate, distasteful act,” said David Mustonen, a spokesman for Dearborn Schools. “(It was) totally inappropriate, totally disrespectful, and they just were not thinking.”

The students told the principal they didn’t mean any harm by having the sweatshirts made.

Other students who heard about and saw the shirts said they were disgusted.

“I found them very offensive and I didn’t think it was funny or fun at all,” said Brittany Johnson, a senior at Edsel Ford High.

The school has not said what disciplinary action will be taken against the students.

“If I was in charge, I would have them expelled,” said Lindsey Winstrand. “But I think suspension is the least they can do.”

The students told the principal they had the sweatshirts made at the Gibraltar Trade Center for about $25 each.

“The Lonely, Murderous Sons of Allah: A Psycho-analytic View” by Dr. Phyllis Chesler

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

One is the 17th son; the other is the 16th son. Neither are the sons of a first wife. One is an engineer; the other was an engineering student. Both have ancestral roots in Yemen. Both are educated and come from wealthy families.

I am talking about Osama bin Laden–the 17th son among 57 children whose father is Yemeni–and the Christmas Day Bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab–the 16th and youngest son, whose mother is Yemeni. Both men were born “shamed,” disadvantaged, because their mothers were not “first,” or high-status wives.

Both men are lonely sons of Allah, yearning for paternal attention, even affection, in a polygamous culture in which fathers have too many children and little incentive to pay close attention to any one of them. This is devastating, especially to sons, because the culture overly values fathers and men, and grossly undervalues mothers and women. Thus, the attention a son may receive from his mother (if she is not sent away, as Bin Laden’s mother was) does not make up for the missing and longed-for father.

I have often thought that the way many Arab Muslim brothers brutally order their sisters around not only reflects how their fathers treat everyone, but is also a measure of their frustration about not being able to bond with their absent, lordly fathers. Thus, for a number of reasons, prison-style sexuality as well as homosexuality and homosexual pederasty is as rampant as it is forbidden in Arab and Muslim culture.

Arab and Muslim sons desperately want their fathers. But their fathers are busy marrying other, younger wives, having other, newer children, and founding financial empires. They want their fathers to redeem them from the shameful fate of living in a world of mainly women–which they do when they are very young; and of course, they want their fathers for reasons of identity and inheritance.
