Homeland Security Chief: Domestic Terrorism is Top Concern

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

WASHINGTON (AP) – Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says terrorists who are U.S. citizens or live in the country legally and plot against the U.S. are just as big of a concern as international terrorists.

She says that when she started as secretary a year ago, the focus was largely on international terrorists who want to harm U.S. interests. But in the past year, more of the violent extremism that has been seen overseas is showing up in the U.S.

She says officials need to drill down and analyze the factors that make a young person, raised in the U.S., migrate to extremist beliefs and actions. (janet, read the Koran. -ed.)

Napolitano was speaking to governors who are in Washington for their annual conference.

Are Ezekial Prophecies on the Horizon?

Friday, February 19th, 2010

We’ll see. I always hate it when people even suggest dates for Bible prophesy because people take them as “accurate”, and then criticize with then don’t happen. God will do them when he decides to, not a moment before.

The leader of a Messianic Jewish ministry believes a couple of biblical prophecies dealing with wars in the Middle East could come to fruition within the next five years.

While many biblical scholars speculate about the next two chapters of Ezekiel, as well as the war of Gog and Magog, Jan Markell, founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries, believes some other prophecies are likely to precede that cataclysmic end-times event.

“Frankly I believe 2010 is going to see some of the predicted wars that have not yet happened,” she comments. “I do think that the Psalm 83 war could take place in 2010.”

No Drilling = Higher Energy Prices

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Well this is absolutely true, but it seems that messages of common sense fall on deaf ears most of the time.

A new study indicates that energy costs for American consumers will continue to rise significantly unless the Obama administration opens previously off-limits areas to domestic oil development.

Congress and President Bush in 2008 lifted a ban on drilling along the U.S. coastline in response to high oil prices. However, most of those areas, including offshore Alaska and the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf, have still not been accessed for oil and gas exploration and development.

A study sponsored by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) finds the drilling bans will cost the U.S. economy $2.36 trillion over the next 20 years.

‘Revolutionary’ DNA Test for Cancer Hailed

Friday, February 19th, 2010

What awesome news!!

A blood DNA test that can detect whether a tumor has returned or is responding to therapy has been developed by American scientists, in an advance that could revolutionize cancer care.

The achievement promises to transform management of cancer by allowing doctors to monitor the progress of patients with any type of tumor and to adjust their treatment accordingly.

The test, which should be widely available within five years, should spare some patients chemotherapy and radiotherapy that they do not need, while ensuring that others get potentially life-saving extra treatment when the initial course does not kill all the cancer.

It should be capable of detecting even microscopic residual tumors that are missed by imaging methods such as computed tomography (CT) scans.

A further benefit could be less radical surgery, as the test could check whether cancer has spread to lymph nodes or apparently healthy tissue around a tumor, which could be left in place if not diseased. The test could also identify when a treatment is not working.

Obama Writing Health Bill to Skirt GOP Filibuster

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Well of course the All High Emperor Obama will do anything he can to avoid the democratic process. He sees the party system as merely something that gets in the way of his ultimate power.
What is sad is he still doesn’t get it. The American people don’t want health care “reform”. Period. But he’s going to do everything in his power to ram it down our throats anyway.

President Obama is working on health care legislation intended to reconcile differences between House and Senate Democrats that could be attached to a budget bill and avoid a Republican filibuster, according to a published report.

The president’s proposal, which is still being written, will be posted on the Internet by Monday morning, senior administration officials and Congressional aides told the New York Times.

By piggybacking the legislation onto a budget bill, Democrats would be able to advance the bill with a simple majority of just 51 votes, averting a Republican filibuster in the Senate.

The White House signaled Thursday that an aggressive, all-Democratic strategy for overhauling the nation’s health system remains a serious option, even as Obama invites Republicans to next week’s televised summit to seek possible compromises.

“It will be a reconciliation bill,” the Times quoted a Democratic aide as saying. “If Republicans don’t come with any substantial offers, this is what we would do.”

The administration’s stance could set the stage for a political showdown, with Democrats struggling to enact the president’s top domestic priority and Republicans trying to block what many conservatives see as government overreach.

Obama’s plan, like the House and Senate bills, would expand coverage to some 30 million, require most Americans to carry insurance or face financial penalties, and block insurers from denying coverage to people with pre-existing medical conditions, the Times reported.

One Capitol Hill Democrat told the Times abortion remains “a wild card.”

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Thursday that Obama plans to have a health proposal that “will take some of the best ideas and put them into a framework” ahead of the Feb. 25 summit.

Obama has said he is open to Republican ideas for changing the health care system. But many Democrats seriously doubt GOP leaders will support compromises that could draw enough lawmakers from both parties to create a bipartisan majority.

If next week’s meeting does not break the logjam, congressional Democrats will face a tough choice. They can pass a highly diluted health care bill or nothing at all, which would send them into the November elections with a high-profile failure despite their control of Congress and the White House.

Or they can use the aggressive and contentious tactic, known as reconciliation, to pass a far-reaching health care bill in the Senate without having to face the GOP. Democrats lost their ability to block filibusters when Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown won a Senate seat last month.

Both parties have used reconciliation rules in the past. But Republicans have practically dared Democrats to do so on health care, citing polls showing significant opposition to the legislation.

It’s unclear whether the House or Senate can muster the necessary votes. Democrats, who now hold 255 of the House’s 435 seats, drew only one GOP ally when the House passed its health care bill, 220-215, last November. Since then, one Democrat who voted for the bill has resigned, one has died and a third plans to leave office Feb. 28. Moreover, changes meant to meet Senate demands could peel away enough liberals on one end, and party centrists on the other, to cause the revised bill to fail.

In the Senate, Democrats control 59 seats, and reconciliation rules require only a simple majority. But several Democratic senators have expressed discomfort or outright opposition to using the rules to thwart filibusters on health care.

The White House has invited Republicans to bring their own proposals, but GOP leaders have treated the event warily at best.

House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio said Thursday, “a productive, bipartisan conversation on health care starts with a clean sheet of paper.” His office labeled next week’s meeting the “summit of all fears.”

Ancient Jerusalem Waterway Revealed at Jaffa Gate

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Archeology continues to prove out Biblical history.

( The excavations inside the Old City of Jerusalem at Jaffa Gate have turned up yet another fascinating revelation: A water canal, 40 meters long (44 yards) and 1.5 meters (5 feet) high.

The excavations are being conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority as part of a “rescue” operation, customary in Israel before major construction work, prior to the replacement of underground infrastructures there.

It was announced last week that the ancient precursor of today’s Old City road leading from Jaffa Gate to Mt. Zion was uncovered – precisely where an ancient and now-famous Mosaic map says it should be.

Now, it is the turn of the upper Jerusalem waterway from the 2nd and 3rd centuries C.E. to see the light of day.

Dr. Ofer Sion, director of the archaeological works at the site, explained, “During the course of the work, the wall of the waterway was revealed, and when we removed some of the large stones and looked inside, we saw before us a perfectly-designed waterway, with a flat stone roof on top. People can walk inside it, bent-over, for a length of 40 meters.”

Dr. Sion explains that the newly-uncovered section is just a part of a waterway that was once some 13 kilometers long, leading from Solomon’s Pools. “It is exciting to think that no human has set foot here for so many centuries,” he added.

The two-foot wide waterway was not uncovered totally by accident. At the end of the 19th century, the Land of Israel archaeologist and architect Dr. Conrad Schick (designer of the Meah She’arim neighborhood) described the location of part of the waterway. “His work gave us some clues that led to this discovery,” said Dr. Sion.

Originally, water was supplied to Jerusalem chiefly from the Gichon Spring. Just over 2,000 years ago, however, with the population of the city growing, a new source was sought. King Herod began work on large projects bringing water from the Hevron Mountains, using the power of gravity, to Solomon’s Pools just south of the city. From there, two waterways channeled water to the city: The upper channel brought water to the King’s palace, Hezekiah’s Pool and other areas in the higher levels of the city, while water on the lower waterway went to the Holy Temple on the Temple Mount and the lower areas. The now-revealed section is part of the upper channel.

Atheists Trained to Destroy Roadside Memorial Crosses

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

There is no length the atheist will not go to in order to destroy religion. They are one of the most thin skinned, easily offended groups in the world. They spend so much energy protesting and fighting something they don’t believe in. I wonder why their efforts to remove Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are not given as much equal time and effort? They should rate right up there with God on an atheists priorities. I mean really, to the atheist they are all imaginary creatures. So why the duplicity?

Anglican Bishop Council Nedd, who heads the organization In God We Trust, tells OneNewsNow his staff ran across the website “It’s a website sort of designed to train atheists how to do…destructive social activism,” Nedd describes. “And what caught our attention was the portion on there that dealt with tearing down roadside memorials to the deceased.”

According to Nedd, the website even includes a description of what tools a person should carry with them to cut down metal memorials. Laws regarding the signs vary, and the bishop reports that “they claimed it was against the law, but they said it presented a roadside distraction, I guess sort of like billboards do.”

The site seems to suggest people can take the law into their own hands, and it advocates defacing dollar bills and taking off the words “In God We Trust.” Nedd believes that law enforcement is right to permit the memorials because of the crosses’ significance to those who lost family members in a car wreck. Nedd concludes atheists are going too far.

Dubai Police ’99 Percent’ Sure Israel Is Behind Hamas Killing

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

The Arab nations consistently allow known terrorists to travel unmolested through their countries, and in some cases welcome them with open arms. So it’s understandable that Israel would periodically loose it’s patience with them and take matters into their own hands. Understandable, but not right.
If they are involved, they must understand that this type of operation does not help their cause.

It would be nice if the world would at least treat Israel fairly, but since Satan is the lord of this world and he hates Israel, I’m sure the world will continue to hate Israel. Not much chance of them being treated fairly. They typically feel backed into a corner, especially when the world sits on its hands and refuses to take action against people who freely admit they kill innocent Israelis and Jews. It is understandable why Israel takes matters into it’s own hands. It doesn’t make it right, but it is understandable.

Dubai police chief Dahi Khalfan Tamim said Thursday he was “99 percent certain” that Israel was involved in the killing of a Hamas militant at a luxury hotel, as Israeli diplomats played down British and Irish concerns that passports from the two countries were forged as part of the plot.

Tamim told Emirati newspaper The National that the investigation revealed Mossad, Israel’s spy agency, to be behind the murder.

But Israel played down the diplomatic disagreement following the killing of a top Hamas commander in Dubai by alleged Mossad agents caught on camera and carrying European passports.

“It is important to note that no one (formally) accuses Israel. There is no proof linking Israel to this affair,” a senior official said ahead of a meeting on Thursday to which the Foreign Office in London invited Israel’s ambassador.

Faith Leaders’ Undermine God’s Plan for Marriage

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

The falling away of the church from the values taught in the Bible continues in earnest. This is one of the signs of Jesus’ eminent return. See our article “Falling Away” of the Church.

An official with the Institute on Religion & Democracy (IRD) says it’s a sad sign of the times that a group of “faith leaders” in Iowa signed a document declaring their support for same-sex “marriage.”

“It does give cover to the proponents of same-sex marriage to pretend that they stand on equal religious ground,” [Alan Wisdom with the Institute on Religion & Democracy (IRD)] explains. “They’re going to claim…there are some Christians over there who are opposed to same-sex marriage, but [that] there are these other ones who favor it — as if it were an even division.”

That claim, notes Wisdom, is untrue. “The overwhelming majority of the church in the United States and globally affirms the marriage of man and woman,” he emphasizes.

Top U.N. Climate Official Resigning

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

The man-made global warming hoax is continuing to be dealt blow after blow. Those of you who still believe need to take a reality break.

Top U.N. climate change official Yvo de Boer told The Associated Press Thursday that he was resigning after nearly four years, a period when governments struggled without success to agree on a new global warming deal. His departure takes effect July 1, five months before 193 nations are due to reconvene in Mexico for another attempt to reach a binding worldwide accord on controlling greenhouse gases.

De Boer is known to be deeply disappointed with outcome of the last summit in Copenhagen, which drew 120 world leaders but failed to reach more than a vague promise by several countries to limit carbon emissions — and even that deal fell short of consensus.

But he denied to the AP that his decision to quit was a result of frustration with Copenhagen.

“Copenhagen wasn’t what I had hoped it would be,” he acknowledged, but the summit nonetheless prompted governments to submit plans and targets for reining in the emissions primarily blamed for global warming. “I think that’s a pretty solid foundation for the global response that many are looking for,” he said.

De Boer’s resignation comes in the wake of the continuing Climate-gate scandal — a story that began with the leak of stolen e-mails from top climate scientists and led to revelations of sloppy science, efforts to suppress dissenting opinions and ultimately flaws in the U.N.’s top climate policy document.

The embattled ex-head of the research center at the heart of the Climate-gate scandal recently dropped a bombshell of his own, admitting in an interview with the BBC that there has been no global warming over the past 15 years.

De Boer nevertheless told the AP he believes talks “are on track,” although it was uncertain that a full treaty could be finalized at the next high-level conference in November.

The partial agreement reached in Copenhagen, brokered by President Barack Obama, “was very significant,” he said. But he acknowledged frustration that the deal was merely “noted” rather than formally adopted by all countries.

“We were about an inch away from a formal agreement. It was basically in our grasp, but it didn’t happen,” he said. “So that was a pity.”

Protecting Religious Rights of Students and Teachers

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

The Public Schools Religious Bill of Rights (SB 10-089 [PDF]) would state that students can express religious beliefs in homework assignments, exchange greeting cards with religious themes, and sing religious songs in school-sponsored programs. Teachers would have the right to refuse to teach a topic that violates their beliefs.

[Senator Dave Schultheis], who proposes that schools prominently post the religious bill of rights, also believes that often schools will fold to organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union that are making demands of them simply because they do not fully understand their constitutional rights.

Most educators, he believes, are not hostile to religion. “We need to raise this awareness among the Christians, as well as members of other faiths, that there’s [sic] definitely areas where their religious freedoms can be exercised,” says the state lawmaker.

His bill would ask the Education Department to request from the state attorney general information that would indicate rights of students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Schultheis believes individuals who come under attack for expressing their religious views and convictions will make better choices if they are informed beforehand about their rights.

Obama Lies About Father…Again

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Does this man even know what truth is and how to use it? Doesn’t seem so.
Many might say “why does this matter?”
Well, by itself, it doesn’t. But if you voted for this man, I’d begin to ask the question “who did I elect?” He lied about his family history, he was ambiguous about his policies and what he was going to do, so you must ask yourself “what do I really know about this guy?”
It’s sad to say, but we still know virtually nothing about him. You folks who voted for him allowed your emotions to get the best of you, discarded rational thought and allowed yourself to be wooed by “Hope and Change” espoused by a charismatic speaker.
Maybe you don’t, but if I were you, I’d be feeling mighty embarrassed and incensed right about now.

Official documents catch Barack Obama in another apparent misrepresentation of his life story, this time challenging a claim made during his campaign that his father was part of a JFK-era airlift to bring Kenyan students to the U.S. to study in American universities.

WND research indicates Barack Obama Sr. was not brought to Hawaii in 1959 by any airlift of Kenyan students organized by baseball great Jackie Robinson, John F. Kennedy or the African-American Students Foundation
, the AASF.

Nor was Barack Obama Sr. on any of the three subsequently chartered airplanes in what became known as the “second airlift” organized by Kenyan Luo politician Tom Mboya in 1960 after the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation contributed $100,000 to AASF.

Moreover, after a thorough search of the Jackie Robinson papers at the Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress, WND can find no mention of Barack Obama Sr. in the files on deposit, either as an applicant or candidate for an airlift from Kenya to study in the U.S.

The manifest of the 81 students actually flown from Kenya Sept. 9, 1959, in a plane chartered by Jackie Robinson in conjunction with the AASF does not contain Barack Obama Sr.’s name. Robinson was assisted by singer Harry Belafonte and actor Sidney Poitier.

By the time of the Sept. 9, 1959, airlift to New York City, Barack Obama Sr. was already in Honolulu, enrolled in classes as an undergraduate at the University of Hawaii.

WND previously published official affirmation from the University of Hawaii that Barack Obama Sr. was enrolled for the 1959 fall term.

The first article documenting Barack Obama Sr.’s presence in Hawaii was by journalist Shurei Hirozawa in the Honolulu Star Bulletin on Sept. 18, 1959, only nine days after the Jackie Robinson airlift.

The article suggested Barack Obama Sr., then fully settled in Hawaii and enrolled at the university, had used personal savings to pay his travel
expenses from Kenya to Hawaii and tuition costs at the university.

“But the money [Barack Obama Sr.] saved will only stretch out for two semesters or less because of the high cost of living in Hawaii, he found out,” wrote Hirozawa. “He’ll work, he says, and possibly apply for a scholarship.”

Barack Obama Jr.’s claim that John F. Kennedy brought his father to the U.S. was made in a March 4, 2007 speech, from the pulpit of the historic Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church in Selma, Ala.

Obama declared he owed his very existence to Selma, according to a transcript of the speech and a video clip posted on

A few minutes into the speech, Obama began discussing the protests in Selma and Birmingham, Ala., that were instrumental to Martin Luther King building the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

Obama invented dialogue of Kennedy advisers, musing, “It worried the folks in the White House who said, ‘You know, we’re battling communism. How are we going to win hearts and minds all across the world if right here in our own country, John, we’re not observing the ideals set forth in our Constitution? We might be accused of being hypocrites.”

Obama continued: “This young man named Barack Obama got one of those tickets and came over to this country. He met this woman whose great-great-great-great-grandfather had owned slaves. But she had a good idea there was some craziness going on, because they looked at each other, and they decided that we know that (in) the world as it has been it might not be possible for us to get together and have a child.”

Kennedy, however, was not in the White House until Jan. 20, 1961, and he did not participate in the organization of the September 1959 airlift.

Still, the myth of JFK’s role in bringing President Obama’s father to the U.S. persisted, reported again Jan. 10, 2008, by Washington-based reporter Elana Schor of London’s Guardian newspaper.

On March 30, 2008, Michael Dobbs published an article in the Washington Post, carefully entitled “Obama Overstates Kennedy’s Role in Helping His Father,” so as not to characterize candidate Obama’s Selma remarks as a lie.

“Obama spokesman Bill Burton acknowledged yesterday that the senator from Illinois had erred in crediting the Kennedy family with a role in his father’s arrival in the United States,” Dobbs wrote. “[Burton] said the Kennedy involvement in the Kenya student program apparently started 48 years ago, not 49 years ago as Obama has mistakenly suggested in the past.”

To correct the “overstatement,” Dobbs incorrectly reported that Barack Obama Sr. had come to the United States in the Sept. 9, 1959, initial airlift organized by Jackie Robinson without the financial support of the Kennedy family.

“There was enormous excitement when the Britannia aircraft took off for New York with the future Kenyan elite aboard,” Dobbs wrote of the first airlift. “After a few weeks of orientation, the students were dispatched to universities across the United States to study subjects that would help them govern Kenya after the departure of the British. Obama Sr. was interested in economics and was sent to Hawaii, where he met, and later married, a Kansas native named Ann Dunham.”

Further corroboration that Barack Obama Sr. was not on the first airlift is provided by Tom Shachtman in his 2009 book, “Airlift to America.”

On page 9 of the book, Shachtman confirms Mboya was unable to transport Barack Obama Sr. to the United States on any of the airlifts organized by Jackie Robinson or the AASF.

WND also has reported that contrary to the president’s statements, his father did not abandon the family in Hawaii when he accepted an invitation to study at Harvard in 1962.

Documents uncovered by WND also have raised questions about whether President Obama’s parents ever lived together as husband and wife, despite Obama’s repeated assertions his parents lived together in Hawaii during the first two years of his life.

WND has reported the only documentation for Ann Dunham’s marriage to Barack Obama Sr. comes from their divorce documents that list the marriage date as Feb. 2, 1961.

In actuality, it isn’t clear Obama’s parents were married, since official records have never been produced showing a legal ceremony took place. No wedding certificate or photograph of a ceremony for Dunham and Obama Sr. has ever been found or published.

WND previously reported Michelle Obama stated at a public event that her husband’s mother was “very young and very single” when she gave birth to the future U.S. president.

Purim and the Persian Empire

A Historical, Archaeological & Geographical Perspective

(Feldheim Publishers)

By: Yehuda Landy

Reviewed by: Fern Sidman

As Jews, we are blessed to enjoy the observance of many holidays; all of which are steeped in rich meaning, symbolism and profound lessons for life. We are taught that the one holiday that will endure forever, even after the coming of Moshiach and the final redemption will be that of Purim. As we immerse ourselves in the joy and gladness of Purim, we are also cognizant of the fact that the timeless and eternal story of Purim, as told in Megillas Esther, is one that genuinely embodies the resilience of the Jewish soul as manifested in total faith and hope in Hashem and the determination to survive against all odds.

In this recently published book, “Purim and the Persian Empire – A Historical, Archaeological & Geographical Perspective” (Feldheim Publishers), Rabbi Yehuda Landy, a noted Torah scholar, lecturer, author and archaeology expert examines the enigmatic qualities of Purim and answers the litany of questions that we have all pondered as he takes us on a trenchant sojourn into the fascinating world of the Persian Empire. Megillas Esther virtually comes to life as we gain a cogent understanding and new insights as we study excerpts of the text that are laden with Talmudic, historical and archaeological scholarship as evidenced in the presentation of ancient artifacts, maps and magnificent photographs.

This book is the culmination of a four-year research project which spanned three continents, as the author explains that his inspiration for this endeavor began on a visit to a special exhibition at the British Museum in London named “Forgotten Empire”, that dealt exclusively with the material culture from the same Persian Empire with which we are familiar from the Book of Esther. While this book is not “meant to resolve any halachic issues”, says the author, “it is meant as a tool for understanding and visualizing the events of the Megillah.” Beginning with a historical backdrop of the Persian Empire in Jewish history, the author informs us that after the conquest of the Babylonian empire by the kings of Persia and Media, life improved dramatically for the Jews as their new Persian rulers permitted them to return to their land and to “rebuild the Beis HaMikdash and the wall around Jerusalem.” While the darkness of the Babylonian exile had ended and Jews lived in relative freedom from oppression, it became clear that their new Persian rulers were not immune to strains of virulent anti-Semitic proclivities as manfiested in the city of Shushan prior to the story of Purim.

The narrative is greatly enhanced by the stunning photos of original artifacts from that era which included clothing, cosmetics and furniture as well as the gold and silver tableware and drinking vessels from Achashverosh’s palace. We transform into time travelers as we embark of a guided tour of the cities of Shushan and Jerusalem in all their resplendent glory and are treated to spectacular visuals of the king’s gate, the courtyard of the women’s residence, the king’s treasuries, the inner courtyard and the king’s gardens among many other anicent sites of the empire.

The author delves into the chronology of the Persian empire according to Chazal and provides us with a historical backdrop of the reign of such Persian kings as Daryavesh (Darius the Mede), Coresh, Cambyses and Xerxes, who is also believed to have been the real Achashverosh. “Although his name was pronounced by the Greeks as Xerxes, the Persian pronunciation was Chashiarsh. Chashiarsh, when pronounced in Hebrew, turns into Achasverosh” says Rabbi Landy. A most intriguing and informative chapter on the archaeological evidence of such ancient cultures as Assyria, Babylonia and the Persian cities of Pasargadae, Shushan, Persepolis and Hamadan sheds light on the decadence of the era and the societal influences that held sway amongst the respective populations. “The earliest documented identification of Shushan appears in the diary of Benjamin of Tudela (1165). He also makes mention of the tomb of Daniel wihch is located there”, the author concludes.

Historical and archaeological material are the predicate for our study of Megillas Esther in the second part of the book. Citing numerous sources from mesechta Megillah in the Gemara as well as historical proof, we get a rare glimpse into the inner machinations of the mind of Achashverosh, the faith-based motivations of Queen Esther and Mordechai and the hatching of Haman’s diabolical scheme of annhilation of the Jewish people. Following the miracle of Purim, the author clues us in to what became of Esther and Mordechai. “The Jews of Persia had a tradition that Mordechai and Esther are buried in the city of Hamadan, which was the original capital of Media. The custom to visit their graves before Purim continues until this very day.”

This detailed account of the holiday of Purim will surely be a captivating treat for history buffs and a must read for anyone who wishes to slake their desire for Talmudic and historical knowledge of this juncture in the annals of Jewish history. We are left incredibly inspired; even breathless, as we witness Hashem’s miracles as they unfold before our very eyes and as we forge a personal connection to those who summoned up the kind of faith that has sustained our people since time immemorial.

Iran to Get Russian S-300 Missile System After Technical Problems Solved

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

The Russians are going to give the Iranian madman’s regime an advanced missile system, one that will most certainly be used to defend his nuclear weapon sites.

The Interfax news agency on Wednesday cited a top Russian defense official as saying that S-300 air defense missiles will be delivered to Iran once unspecified technical problems are resolved.

Alexander Fomin, deputy head of the Federal Military-Technical Cooperation Service, was quoted as saying “the delay is taking place because of technical problems. The delivery will take place when they have been resolved.”

The remarks come a day after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his delegation met with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and two days after Netanyahu met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

Netanyahu said it was clear to him after his meeting with Putin that the Russian prime minister was interested in quiet and stability in the region, and does not want that balance to be broken.

“Russia understands the Iranian problem, and that is obvious even more so today,” Netanyahu said.

Asked at a media conference he held with the traveling Israeli press whether he received a clear answer from Medvedev regarding the delivery of S-300 anti-aircraft missiles to Iran, Netanyahu said, “I trust what I heard from the president of Russia. I trust him because I know that in this issue, Russia is guided by concerns about regional stability.”

Israel has said in the past that the sale of S-300s to Iran, which could be used to defend its nuclear installations, would tip the strategic balance in the region.

Netanyahu’s spokesman Mark Regev, meanwhile, clarified that reports that Medvedev had promised Netanyahu that the S-300s would not be delivered to Iran were “journalistic speculation.”

A day before the prime minister’s arrival, the deputy head of Russia’s National Security Council, Vladimir Nazarov, was quoted as saying the weapons systems would be delivered.

The missiles would significantly boost Iran’s defense capacity and the contract has caused great concern in Israel.

Russia and Iran reached agreement on the contract in 2007. Some observers suggest Russia is holding back delivery to pressure Iran to cooperate with the international community in the dispute over its nuclear program.

Obama to Create Deficit Panel as U.S. Debt Soars

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Well, the panel is going to have a really easy job; all they need to do is call in Obama, Pelosi and Reid.

WASHINGTON — Determined to have a deficit commission with or without Congress’ backing, President Obama plans to announce on Thursday that he is establishing a panel similar to — although weaker than– the one lawmakers rejected.

Former White House chief of staff Erskine Bowles and former Republican Senate Whip Alan Simpson would lead the panel, a senior administration official said Tuesday. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the president’s executive order creating the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform had not been announced.

The deficit spiked to an extraordinary $1.4 trillion last year and could top that figure this year as the struggling economy puts a big dent in tax revenues. Even worse from the perspective of economists and deficit hawks, the medium-term deficit picture is for deficits to hit around $1 trillion a year for the foreseeable future.

Obama and his economic team have said repeatedly that this is not sustainable. He told lawmakers during his State of the Union address that he would go around their vote and appoint a version of a deficit commission.

Obama’s version of the commission is a weak substitute for what he really wanted: a panel created by Congress that could force lawmakers to consider unpopular remedies to reduce the debt, including curbing politically sensitive entitlements like Social Security and Medicare.

As rejected, the bipartisan 18-member panel would have worked for much of the year and, if 14 members agree, report a deficit reduction blueprint after the November elections that would be voted on before the new Congress convenes next year. The 14 would have to include at least half of the panel’s Republicans.

That idea crashed in the Senate, defeated by equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans — some of whom initially supported the idea.

Although Obama’s commission will lack any requirement for Congress to act on its advice, it will provide some political cover and big-name backing.

Bowles, the president of the University of North Carolina, served as Democratic President Bill Clinton’s chief of staff from 1996 to 1998. Simpson, a senator from Wyoming from 1979 to 1997, was the No. 2 Republican and the top GOP member of the Social Security subcommittee.

Obama planned to announce the plan on Thursday before he heads west for political events in Colorado and Nevada.

“Bipartisanship Equals Single-Payer-Ship” by David Limbaugh

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

It’s not a good idea for Republicans to accept President Barack Obama’s invitation to a “bipartisan” health care summit, because it would not advance acceptable health care reform. The only thing it likely would advance would be Obama’s propaganda message — and, thus, his socialist agenda.

Everyone knows Obama wouldn’t be considering such a move if the American people had not so resoundingly rejected Obamacare.

From the very beginning, he has approached this issue more as a dictator than one interested in hearing genuine input from the other side. Nor has he shown good faith, having broken his cynical promise to televise the debates on C-SPAN and having misrepresented his plan in a number of particulars.

When called on the C-SPAN pledge, he glibly replied that most of the process has been televised in regular sessions of Congress and committee hearings, knowing full well that’s not what anyone understood him to mean when he made his promise.

He has been as highhanded and dishonest in dealing with this issue as he has been with any other, which is quite a mouthful. He has ridiculed Republicans for their alleged obstruction and for not offering ideas of their own, when it was Republicans who first called for bipartisan talks last May and who did offer alternative plans, which Obama summarily rejected.

He looked us straight in the eye and told us, disingenuously, that in his plan, there would be no federal funding for abortion, no rationing, no interference in the doctor-patient relationship, no forcing people out of their private plans, no bill that was not budget-neutral, no single-payer plan and no decrease in patient choice with his public option.

As he waltzed unannounced into a news conference after failing to make himself available for one for some seven months, he proceeded, as usual, to decry “the political posturing that often paralyzes this town.” I wonder whether he considers himself a participant in such posturing. After all, no modern president has ever engaged in the kind of incessant sniping at his predecessor or his opponents that Obama has. None has failed to take responsibility for his own actions the way Obama has. None has debased a State of the Union address to “call out” his political opponents.

If he wouldn’t even square with us in his short statement on the proposed “bipartisan” health care summit, why should we expect him to in the meeting itself?

When he announced that he is “going to continue to seek the best ideas from either party,” what were other members of his administration saying?

One White House official told The Washington Post, “This is not starting over. Don’t make any mistake about that.” And Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that Obama will “absolutely not” reset the legislative process. “I think he sees this as a step to actually accelerating the process forward,” she said. “He wants a bill at his desk, and he sees this as kind of closing the loop and let’s go.”

He views this, just as he did his appearance at the Republican retreat, as an opportunity to use Republicans as a prop, to depict them as partisan obstructers of his magnanimous plan to save our health care system.

Obama says the American people are demanding bipartisanship and “a seriousness of purpose that transcends petty politics.”

I don’t think so. And I don’t think his primary concern is what the American people want. If he were truly listening to the people, he would hear their rejection of Obamacare and the rest of his socialist agenda. He would heed the freshly released Rasmussen poll showing that 61 percent of Americans want him to drop health care reform. Yes, the American people have spoken, but what they’re demanding is not bipartisanship. Rather, they want him to cease and desist from his socialist schemes.

Indeed, bipartisan compromise in this case would likely be very detrimental to America’s best interests. What Obama means by bipartisanship is that he be allowed to proceed with his plan to expand government control over health care with the fewest possible cosmetic changes necessary to con Republicans into signing on — a ploy right out of the Saul Alinsky street agitation playbook.

Any bipartisan action on this bill would necessarily result in further government control over health care and move us ever closer to a single-payer system. Yet the only way to improve our health care system is to roll back, not increase government’s role. It follows, then, that no reform at all would be vastly superior to so-called bipartisan reform.

Seriously, does anyone believe that Obama will agree to any plan that includes market reforms? Of course not. Republicans — on behalf of the American people — should just say “no!”

Iran Installing Weapons Grade Enrichment Centrifuges as World Sits on Its Hands – Again

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

The world is going to allow this mad man to get nuclear weapons. I can almost see them privately encouraging him, while publicly wringing their hands and agonizing over how he won’t behave. Privately, they see him as a solution to a problem. What problem might that be, you ask? Israel.
Everyone but a few of us hates Israel. They would love nothing better than to see Iran carry out it’s threat of annihilation against Israel.
But God has other plans for Israel. Just wait and see.

Iran’s president announced Tuesday that his country is installing more advanced centrifuges at its main uranium enrichment facility, even as U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned of an arms race if Iran acquires a nuclear bomb.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told a news conference the new centrifuges are not yet operational but are five times more efficient than an earlier model at its Natanz enrichment plant — news of major concern to the U.S. and its allies because at higher levels the enriched uranium they produce can be used in nuclear warheads.

Iran says its nuclear work is only for peaceful purposes in a medical reactor, but Clinton said Tuesday that if Iran acquires a nuclear device it could trigger a nuclear arms race in the Middle East, which would create “dangerous” problems in the region.

Bennie Begin: ‘We will never relinquish Temple Mount’

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

The Israelis and Jews should not have to relinquish Temple Mount. Further to that, they should be running and making the Muslims allow anyone to pray anywhere on the Mount whenever they want to. The Muslim intolerance is beyond belief.
Now with that said, the Jews shouldn’t have a problem with the Muslims or Christians being allowed to pray at the Mount either. But some do.

Minister-without-Portfolio Bennie Begin, speaking Monday at a gathering in Jerusalem, said that the city’s status as the capital of Israel has been undermined over the last few years.

“Far ranging plans have been put on the negotiating table, not only in east Jerusalem, but proposals have been made for Israel to relinquish Jewish sovereignty over Temple Mount, the Mount of Olives, and the City of David,” said Begin.

Begin went on to say that “in the name of the Israeli government, such proposals and ones like them will not be considered under any condition.”
