‘Iran Moves Uranium Above Ground’ by Chris Schang

Monday, March 1st, 2010

In a most unusual move the Jerusalem Post is reporting that Iran has moved their stockpile of enriched uranium above ground in a move that is seen as trying to possibly tempt the Israelis to strike militarily. The Jerusalem Post article reports:

Iran recently moved almost its entire stockpile of low-enriched uranium to an above-ground facility, The New York Times reported on Saturday. According to a recent report by International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors, roughly 4,300 pounds (1,950kg) of low-enriched nuclear fuel was moved all at once from storage deep underground to a facility where they can be enriched to 20 percent. 80 to 90 percent enrichment is required for nuclear weapons.

Iran’s inexplicable action, which has confused Western officials, exposes the material to an airstrike or even ground-based sabotage. The Times quoted one official as saying the move was tantamount to painting a bull’s-eye on the stockpile.

As we can see here the move by Iran to basically move most of its enriched uranium to above ground facilities exposes the material to Israeli aerial attacks as well as possible sabotage from Israeli special forces commandos should they decide to make a move on Iran. The article went on to give several possible explanations for why the Iranians may have moved the material to above ground storage facilities:

Several hypotheses were raised by the paper: Iran may be taunting Israel to attack, as this would rally Iranians in support of the regime and silence voices of dissent which have plagued the streets since last years disputed election; Teheran may be using the move as leverage against the West – a threat to further enrich its entire stockpile should the world not lower the pressure on the Islamic Republic; or – the theory held by many in the Obama administration – Iran may have simply run out of suitable storage containers for the radioactive material and was forced to move it all at once.

Whatever the reason, the paper said, it provides Israel with a very tempting window to attack – something the Obama administration will want to prevent.

If Iran is trying to taunt Israel into striking they could very well find out that they have made a bad decision because by moving the enriched uranium from underground storage to above ground storage as it makes an Israeli hit much more likely to be successful thereby encouraging the Israelis to move ahead and order a military strike. As many of us know from previous news reports, Iran has built an extensive underground network of nuclear facilities buried under many hardened layers of concrete. If Iran is indeed taunting Israel, this could be an excuse for Iran and the rest of the nations in the region to attack Israel given that they would make the first move with the their own strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. It is also possible that Iran is wanting to taunt Israel so that they can make Israel out to be the aggressor in the eyes of the international community as a result of the aftermath of such a strike on Iran. Anything that happens after an Israeli strike could and would be blamed on Israel. This would help to further turn the rest of the world against Israel, as they are already showing increased signs of anti-semitism across the globe.

Another possibility is that the Iranians are hoping that an Israeli strike would speed up the arrival of the Islamic “Mahdi” figure. However, Islamic prophecy has absolutely no weight to it as it is not inspired by God Almighty. God Almighty’s prophecies are only contained in the Holy Bible. I would think that if this is the intention of the Iranians as they are terribly deceived and that they will be sorely disappointed when this Mahdi figure doesn’t show up and Israel obtains supernatural help from God in fending off her invaders. It is easy to see that such as a strike on Iran could pave the way for retaliation by Iran through their proxy terrorist organizations that are currently operating on the borders of Israel. If indeed Pslam 83 and Isaiah 17 are fulfilled by the foolish actions of the terrorists and Syrian President Bashar Assad, we could see the table being set for the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38-39 thereafter.

In another article by the Haaretz news agency it was suggested that an alternate reason Iran could be using the move of enriched uranium above ground is to invite an Israeli attack in order to unite the country after the past 8 months have seen unprecedented internal turmoil and opposition. The Haaretz new article reports:

One of the explanations analysts have used to explain the about-face is that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards are “inviting” an Israeli attack to deflect attention from the eight months of post-election violence that have divided the country. One senior European diplomat told the New York Times on Thursday that an Israeli military strike could be the “best thing” for the Iranian regime, because it would rally Iranians around the government and against a common enemy.

Whatever the reason for the recent Iranian move, the fact remains that this is an ideal opportunity for Israel to strike Iran and rid itself of the current nuclear problem concerning Iran. Even if a military strike doesn’t remove the problem altogether, it will perhaps buy time for the Israelis in addition to giving sanctions and the Iranian opposition time to push for regime change. I think we need to monitor this situation in the Middle East with intense observation as it appears that a new window of opportunity has opened for Israel, and they could very well take advantage of it.

Keep looking up, our redemption is drawing nigh!!

God bless.

“Another Massive Earthquake” by Todd Strandberg

Monday, March 1st, 2010

A huge earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 has hit the west-central coast of Chile, killing more than 700 people. The quake struck at 1:34 EST about 200 miles southwest of the capital, Santiago.

The epicenter was just 70 miles from Concepcion, Chile ‘s second-largest city, where more than 200,000 people live, and the coastal city Valdivia, with a population of 140,559, which is was at the greatest risk of the quake’s tsunami.

It will take several days to get a full measure of the devastation caused by the quake. Because Chile has much better building codes than Haiti, it’s unlikely that we’re going to see a death toll into the tens of thousands.

The Chile earthquake is already one for the record book. It is seventh on the list of greatest earthquakes ever recorded. In the past 250 years, there have only been two other mass casualty quakes with a greater magnitude.

Chile is no stranger to large earthquakes. In 1960, the most powerful earthquake ever recorded struck Valdivia. It had a magnitude of 9.5 and destroyed buildings from the earthquake can still be found today.

The news of the Chile quake is amazing when you realize it came just a month after the devastating 7.0 quake that struck Haiti, killing 230,000. Of course, this tremor is vastly more powerful. One geologist said it released 500 to 700 times more energy. Luckily, it occurred at sea and several miles from a major population center.

In my January 25, 2010, “Nearing Midnight” commentary, I took note of the narrowing time scale for several recent super earthquakes. It seems bizarre to reminisce about something I wrote just four weeks ago, but that is how strange events have become. Here I am saying the historic odds would tell us that another major quake is unlikely, yet I knew another factor was at work:

Normally, we could say by the frequency of earthquakes in the past that it will be many years before we suffer another super quake. There have been times when there weren’t ever major quakes. The Rapture Ready Earthquakes Timeline shows that between 1950 and 1960, there was no major loss of life from seismic activity. There was another gap between 1960 and 1970.

I don’t think we are going to see any let-up in the number of destructive earthquakes. We have reached the point at which every year is visited by some form military conflict, economic unrest, or natural disaster.

The upsurge in earthquakes has geologists and news reporters wondering what is going on. “Relative to the twenty-year period from the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s, the earth has been more active over the past fifteen or so years,” said Stephen Gao, a geophysicist at Missouri University of Science and Technology. “We still do not know the reason for this yet. Could simply be the natural temporal variation of the stress field in the earth’s lithosphere.” A Fox news reporter asked a seismologist, “What’s wrong with Mother Nature?”

I believe the “birth-pang” prophecy is why earthquakes are increasing in number. Jesus said the calling card of His return would be a spike in calamitous events: “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places, there will be famines; this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs” (Mark 13:8, RVS).

It certainly seems like the Lord is pressing a series of warning buttons. From 2004 to 2008, we had a historic number of tropical systems in the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Ocean basins. In 2009, we had the global financial meltdown. Here we are in 2010 with two historic earthquakes.

Any Bible prophecy worth its salt would point to the Haiti earthquake as a warning of our own need to be ready for eternity. Now that it seems we’ve had a double warning, it is all the more important for Christians to have a sense of priority in their witness to the world. God is very patient, but He is no fool. He is not going to send an endless number of warning signs. This event could very easily be the last one before the Rapture.

Arab Protesters Leave Temple Mount, Muslims Call for War

Monday, March 1st, 2010

The Pali terrorist are still looking for a way to start problems again. Eventually they will find a way.

( Twenty Arabs, who had barricaded themselves on a Temple Mount mosque since Saturday, left the holy site on Sunday after police took the unusual action of entering the controversial area. Seven Arabs were arrested, and four policemen were lightly injured by rock-throwing protesters.

As quiet returned to the Temple Mount, louder voices escalated the Arab war of words that included incitement for more violence. The Qatari daily Al-Watan called for a new Palestinian Authority-led Intifada with the support of Muslim countries.

The Hamas minister of religious affairs urged violence to “protect our Islamic holy places” from Jewish claims. Nabil Abu Rdainah, an aide to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, accused Israel of preventing the PA from resuming talks on establishing a new PA state and trying to “affect the American efforts and destroy them.”

An Arab Muslim cleric from Jerusalem accused “extremist groups” of “storming” the Temple Mount.

Israeli police usually try to remain outside of the Temple Mount but were forced to surround it and enter part of it on Sunday to remove the protesters and to ensure the safety of tourists in the wake of increasing violence. Masked Arab threw stones at police as part of continuing rage following Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s declaration that the Patriarchs Cave in Hevron and Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem are designated Jewish heritage sites to be renovated.

Arab sources said that police used tear gas and rubber bullets in clashes with Arabs. At least four policemen were treated for wounds inflicted by rock-throwing Arabs.

The PA announced it will hold a Cabinet meeting in Hevron on Monday as a sign of opposition to the Israeli decision to include the holy places as Jewish “heritage sites.” Israel has kept the Patriarchs Cave open to Muslims since the city was restored to the Jewish State in 1967 during the Six-Day War. Jordan had occupied the city since 1948 and prohibited Jews from entering.

“Presbyterians Usher in the Jewish Holiday of Purim” by Dr. Phyllis Chesler

Monday, March 1st, 2010

The Presbyterian Church in the United States (PCUSA) is about to release a report which denounces Israel as a “racist” nation which has absolutely no historical, covenantal, or theological right to the Holy Land. The report calls for the United States to withhold financial and military aid to Israel and for boycotts and sanctions against Israel. That’s not all. The report also endorses a Palestinian “right of return” and “apologizes to Palestinians for even conceding that Israel has a right to exist.” According to the press release, it also states that Israel’s history begins only with the Holocaust and that Israel is “a nation mistakenly created by Western powers at the expense of the Palestinian people to solve the ‘Jewish problem’.”

In addition, PCUSA has also resolved to divest in companies that supply military equipment to the American Army, e.g. Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, etc.

In 2004, this Church became the first mainline Protestant denomination in America to “approve a policy of divestment from Israel.” This was rescinded, but in 2008 the Church “created a committee dominated by seven activists holding strong anti-Israel beliefs. The lone member sympathetic to Israel, quit in protest when he saw their radical agenda.”

The Simon Wiesenthal Center notes that 46 members of the US Congress and Senate are Presbyterians and fears potentially “significant repercussions in the political domain” as well as a negative “impact on interfaith relations.” They urge us all to protest directly to the top leadership of the PCUSA “to stop this dangerous campaign which denies the legitimacy and security of Israel,” and to “reach out to your Presbyterian friends.”

Amalek (the eternal enemy of the Jews) has arrived, right on time for the Purim festival. The war against the Jews is precisely what Purim is about. We read the classic indictment against the Jews for the first time in full in the haunting story of Esther. Haman, the Persian King’s advisor, tells him this: “There exists a particular people, far-flung, widespread among the peoples in all the colonies of your realm. Their customs differ from those of all peoples, and they do not abide by his majesty’s bylaws; his majesty has nothing to gain by tolerating them.” Haman also points out that the Jews are wealthy and offers the King the lion’s share of the spoils.

The Jews have been looked at suspiciously, murderously before — in Egypt for example, where their prosperity, fertility, and potential of becoming a fifth column greatly worried the new Pharaoh. But even Pharaoh did not propose what Haman (and Hitler after him) proposed: send the same edict everywhere, “to devastate, slaughter, and annihilate all the Jews (Yehudim), from the youngest to the oldest, children, women, in a single day…with their booty to be despoiled.”

Esther, known for her grace and charm, as well as for her beauty, is the Queen. Esther was forcibly “taken,” and the King was “taken” with her; she did not freely choose to compete in the beauty contest to become the new Queen, especially since the King had killed her predecessor, Queen Vashti, for refusing to appear “naked” before her drunken husband and his drunken guests.

Pelosi: Lawmakers Should Sacrifice Jobs for Health Care

Monday, March 1st, 2010

In a prime example of how out of touch the Democratic leadership is with the American people, and bordering on derangement, in my opinion, Pelosi told fellow Democrats that they should force the health care “reform”, shoving it down American’s throats, even if it means that they will be voted out of office by doing so.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged her colleagues to back a major overhaul of U.S. health care even if it threatens their political careers, a call to arms that underscores the issue’s massive role in this election year.

Lawmakers sometimes must enact policies that, even if unpopular at the moment, will help the public, Pelosi said in an interview being broadcast Sunday the ABC News program “This Week.”
“We’re not here just to self-perpetuate our service in Congress,” she said. “We’re here to do the job for the American people.”

It took courage for Congress to pass Social Security and Medicare, which eventually became highly popular, she said, “and many of the same forces that were at work decades ago are at work again against this bill.”

It’s unclear whether Pelosi’s remarks will embolden or chill dozens of moderate House Democrats who face withering criticisms of the health care proposal in visits with constituents and in national polls. Republican lawmaker unanimously oppose the health care proposals, and many GOP strategists believe voters will turn against Democrats in the November elections.

Pelosi, from San Francisco, is more liberal than scores of her Democratic colleagues. But she generally walks a careful line between urging them to back left-of-center policies and giving them a green light to buck party leaders to improve their re-election hopes.

Her comments to ABC, in the interview released Sunday, seemed to acknowledge the widely held view that Democrats will lose House seats this fall — maybe a lot. They now control the chamber 255 to 178, with two vacancies. Pelosi stopped well short of suggesting Democrats could lose their majority, but she called on members of her party to make a bold move on health care with no prospects of GOP help.

“Time is up,” she said. “We really have to go forth.”

Her comments somewhat echoed those of President Obama, who said at the end of last week’s bipartisan health care summit that Congress should act on the issue and let voters render their verdicts. “That’s what elections are for,” he said.

The White House says Obama, perhaps on Wednesday, will announce a “way forward” on health care. He, Pelosi, and Senate Democratic leaders have left little doubt that they hope to pass a Democratic-crafted bill under “budget reconciliation” rules that would bar Republican filibusters in the Senate. It’s unclear whether Pelosi can muster the needed votes in the House.

White House officials say they will redouble efforts to remind voters that the Senate passed an Obama-backed health care bill in December, with a super majority of 60 votes. The new plan calls for the House to pass that bill and send it to Obama’s desk, and then use Senate budget reconciliation rules to make several changes demanded by House Democrats.

Following a Republican victory in Massachusetts last month, Democrats now control 59 of the Senate’s 100 seats, one vote short of the number needed to block GOP filibusters.

Pelosi told CNN that “in a matter of days” Democrats will have specific legislative language on health care to show to the public and to wavering lawmakers. She predicted voters will warm up to the bill once they understand its details.

“When we have a bill,” she said, “you can bake the pie, you can sell the pie. But you have to have a pie to sell.”

A pie the American people have rejected with a resounding “NO”, again and again.
