Moses and the Burning Bush

Burning Bush

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”

When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
And Moses said, “Here I am.”

“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

The LORD said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”

Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”

God said to Moses, “I am who I am . This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”

God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.

“Go, assemble the elders of Israel and say to them, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—appeared to me and said: I have watched over you and have seen what has been done to you in Egypt. And I have promised to bring you up out of your misery in Egypt into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—a land flowing with milk and honey.’

“The elders of Israel will listen to you. Then you and the elders are to go to the king of Egypt and say to him, ‘The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Let us take a three-day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the LORD our God.’ But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him. So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.

“And I will make the Egyptians favorably disposed toward this people, so that when you leave you will not go empty-handed. Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her house for articles of silver and gold and for clothing, which you will put on your sons and daughters. And so you will plunder the Egyptians.”

“Scientists: Biblical Plagues Really Happened” by Michael G. Mickey

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Scientists are saying the ten plagues that fell upon Egypt, which led to Moses freeing the children of Israel from slavery as recorded in the Book of Exodus, really happened. Well, sort of – or not so much.

The Telegraph is reporting the following, in part (emphasis added mine):

Researchers believe they have found evidence of real natural disasters on which the ten plagues of Egypt, which led to Moses freeing the Israelites from slavery in the Book of Exodus in the Bible, were based.

But rather than explaining them as the wrathful act of a vengeful God, the scientists claim the plagues can be attributed to a chain of natural phenomena triggered by changes in the climate and environmental disasters that happened hundreds of miles away.

They have compiled compelling evidence that offers new explanations for the Biblical plagues, which will be outlined in a new series to be broadcast on the National Geographical Channel on Easter Sunday.

Typical ‘scientific proof’ of what the bible records, isn’t it? Sure, the ten plagues may have happened, but it wasn’t the wrath of God! No way! It was just climate change of all things! How convenient of science to conclude that at a time like this when climate change is under such tremendous scrutiny, huh? And look at the date the National Geographic Channel has chosen to air this doubt-inducing propaganda on the spiritually immature and blind – Easter Sunday! What better time to cast a shadow on the accuracy of God’s Word than on a day when the vast majority of the Christian world will be celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord? If you listen closely, you can almost hear Satan giggling, can’t you?

Who knows? Based on this, given enough time, scientists may someday find ‘compelling evidence’ Christ actually rose from the grave as depicted in the scriptures. If they do, their discovery will probably link the Roman empire passing an unpopular healthcare reform package into law, one so great it led to doctors in Jerusalem being able to do amazing things like miraculously heal people who appeared to be dead. (The surrounding storyline of a scientific discovery like that could suggest that the disciples may have rushed a doctor to Jesus’ tomb shortly after his crucifixion – just in case. The rest, as they say? Well, it would be history. Sort of.)

Assuming for a moment that the scientists’ “compelling evidence” of natural phenomena being the explanation for the ten plagues of Egypt occurring is factual, why would evidence to that effect preclude Almighty God from having brought about same to achieve His purposes? Of course not! Their scientific case would still have a few gaping holes to fill.

How did Moses, for example, hundreds of miles away from where the ‘natural phenomena’ took place that led to the biblical plagues, know about them all in advance? Was he a climatologist? Did Al Gore, the creator of the Internet, also secretly create a time machine and utilize it to show Moses an advanced screening of “An Inconvenient Truth” or what? We’re left to wonder.

How was Moses so accurate in seeing what was taking place around him that he was literally able to raise his hands toward heaven, at precisely the right moment no less, after which a “thick darkness” fell over Egypt for three days as recorded in Exodus 10:22 – a darkness that oddly weaved its way to and fro throughout the land, managing to fall everywhere but upon the dwellings of the children of Israel? (Exodus 10:23) We’re left to wonder.

One of the examples of science explaining the ten plagues deals with the following plague, recorded in Exodus 11:4-7:

And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:

And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.

And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.

But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

Moses forewarned Pharaoh of what was to come, but Pharaoh hardened his heart. In doing so, he brought terrible pain upon his household and all his people’s as well as recorded in Exodus 12:29-30:

And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.

And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.

How are scientists explaining the plague that befell Egypt’s firstborn? From the article:

The cause of the final plague, the death of the first borns of Egypt, has been suggested as being caused by a fungus that may have poisoned the grain supplies, of which male first born would have had first pickings and so been first to fall victim.

Almighty God, the master of heaven and earth, couldn’t have used something as simple as a fungus or as massively powerful as a volcanic eruption to bring about the ten plagues of Egypt as recorded in scripture? No. Not according to science which brings us to a teaching moment.

Is that sulfur I’m smelling?

What we are expected to believe when science finds an explanation, whether factual or merely theoretical in content, is that those who wrote the bible, Moses himself among them, took artistic license of real events and turned them into what we today believe to be the divinely inspired Word of God. (Don’t buy the hype, skeptics!)

Science is forever looking to explain away the teachings of scripture, plain and simple. In doing so, however, science completely misses the point of same, as Dr Robert Miller, associate professor of the Old Testament, from the Catholic University of America concludes at the end of the article whom I’m going to paraphrase in conclusion.

The point of the scriptures in question is that the children of Israel didn’t come out of Egypt by natural causes, but by the hand of God! Whether God used a fungus to kill the firstborn of Egypt or a volcano to bring darkness upon the land of Egypt doesn’t change a thing! He is God after all! All things were possible through Him in the days of Moses and all things remain possible with Him today.

Each and every time an unfulfilled bible prophecy is fulfilled from this point forward, which we know is going to occur? Skeptics and scientists alike are going to line up to dismiss it all as coincidence or merely natural phenomena. Regardless, God’s Word will still be relevant and perfectly accurate, fulfillment of same being His signature as the driving force behind its authorship.

‘Chilling’ New Video: How to Slit Throats

Monday, March 29th, 2010

A new video released by the Christian Action Network shows Muslim women at a compound in New York state practicing throat-slitting techniques and assault weapons attacks.

The video was distributed by the makers of the movie “Homegrown Jihad: The Terrorist Camps Around the U.S.,” which documents how a jihadist group has developed dozens of training camps across the nation.

WND reported at the time how Jamaat ul-Fuqra has built 35 compounds – mostly in the northeastern corridor of the U.S.

Now the organization has posted on YouTube a “chilling” training video provided to CAN by an unnamed law enforcement source about the Muslims of America headquarters in Hancock, New York.

Muslims of America reportedly is the name Jamaat ul-Fuqra, believed to have been involved in the beheading of reporter Daniel Pearl, uses in the U.S.

The video includes segments of training exercises in which one person appears to practice a maneuver that would slit the throat of a victim. There are episodes of what appears to be automatic weapons fire at a target and incidents in which a handgun is held point-blank at a “victim’s” head:

The video shows women marching in military formation, scaling walls, engaging in hand-to-hand combat and also reveals a Muslim confirming that the organization’s own census revealed that Muslims are a majority in the United States and they are claiming it as their own.

The speaker states, “We are 100 percent sure that Muslims are the majority in America.”

He continues, “Our Islamic political party has based its manifesto on this fact. We want to declare once and for all that America is our country.”

According to CAN, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in 2005 warned about Jamaat ul-Fuqra, a Pakistani-based organization that “had the capacity to attack” America.

The U.S. State Department’s 1998 “Patterns of Global Terrorism” report notes the organization “seeks to purify Islam through violence.”

The report continued, “Members have purchased isolated rural compounds in North America to live communally, practice their faith and insulate themselves from Western culture. Fuqra members have attacked a variety of targets that they view as enemies of Islam.”

CAN, led by Martin Mawyer, has researched Muslims of America for years and has provided its video to the FBI, State Department and Homeland Security.

To date, there has been no response from the government, the group said.

Mawyer told WND the political correctness America has adopted ultimately will be costly.

The hands of law enforcement and investigators are tied at this point, he said, because members of the organization are part of “a minority religion,” “they are African-American” “and in this particular case, are women.”

“Gilani has stated he is preparing his members to the Soldiers of Allah, and he’s set up the most advanced guerrilla warfare training camps,” he said. “He’s being true to his word.

“If the evidence is right in front of our face and we have the words from the leader,” Mawyer said. “I don’t know how we continue to close our eyes and be blinded by such obvious affront to American values, the Constitution and our way of life.”

The organization’s “Homegrown Jihad” video includes a chilling scene of Jamaat ul-Fuqra’s leader Sheikh Mubarak Gilani telling followers to “act like you’re his friend. Then kill him.”

According to the Religion of Peace website, there have been more than 250 jihad attacks by Muslims around the globe – including two inside the U.S. – in just the last two months.

The death toll from the attacks has surpassed 1,400, the report says.

Democratic Senator: Health Care Law to Address ‘Mal-Distribution of Income’

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Ah yes, the socialist’ show their true colors, again.

As Democrats tout the moral underpinnings of the federal health care system overhaul — ensuring health care coverage for nearly all Americans — one senator appeared to go off message when he said the legislation would address the “mal-distribution of income in America.”

After the Senate passed a “fix-it” bill Thursday to make changes to the new health care law, Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., chairman of the influential Finance Committee, said the overhaul was an “income shift” to help the poor.

“Too often, much of late, the last couple three years, the mal-distribution of income in American is gone up way too much, the wealthy are getting way, way too wealthy and the middle income class is left behind,” he said. “Wages have not kept up with increased income of the highest income in America. This legislation will have the effect of addressing that mal-distribution of income in America.”

That contrasted with the arguments Democrats have been making in the past year for reinventing the health care system: to expand health care coverage to 32 million uninsured Americans and tighten regulations on insurance companies while reducing the federal deficit.

But some Republican critics have suggested the overhaul is taking the country down the path to socialism. The nearly $1 trillion legislation pays for itself in large part through new taxes on the wealthy — Americans who make $250,000 and more.

A spokeswoman for Baucus did not respond to an e-mail seeking more information on the statement.

Baucus’ statement could give Republicans ammunition as they seek to repeal the law and regain control of Congress in the November elections.

Democrats have rejected Republican charges that they are trying to take over the health care system.

In Iowa this week to trumpet the benefits of the legislation, President Obama said, “We made a promise. That promise has been kept.”

“From this day forward, all of the cynics, all the naysayers — they’re going to have to confront the reality of what this reform is and what it isn’t,” the president said. “They’ll have to finally acknowledge this isn’t a government takeover of our health care system.”

GOP strategist Matt Schlapp, the White House director to former President George. W. Bush, told that Baucus’ statement reflected the “duality” of a responsible Democrat who understands the ramifications of tax policy on Americans but has a “foot in the camp of the most radical and rabid big government activists that are advocating for some breathtaking policies.”

“It’s interesting,” he said. “He’s not the senator I would use as the poster boy for radical and misunderstanding of market dynamics.”

But Schlapp said he’s not surprised by anything said by a member of a political party that, he said, seeks “to take money away from people who are achieving and give it those who aren’t.”
