The Passover

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, “This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household. If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat. The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the people of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast. Do not eat the meat raw or cooked in water, but roast it over the fire—head, legs and inner parts. Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it. This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the LORD’s Passover.

“On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn—both men and animals—and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.

“This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD -a lasting ordinance. For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast. On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must be cut off from Israel. On the first day hold a sacred assembly, and another one on the seventh day. Do no work at all on these days, except to prepare food for everyone to eat—that is all you may do.

“Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because it was on this very day that I brought your divisions out of Egypt. Celebrate this day as a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. In the first month you are to eat bread made without yeast, from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day. For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses. And whoever eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off from the community of Israel, whether he is an alien or native-born. Eat nothing made with yeast. Wherever you live, you must eat unleavened bread.”

Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb. Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. Not one of you shall go out the door of his house until morning. When the LORD goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.

“Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance for you and your descendants. When you enter the land that the LORD will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony. And when your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ then tell them, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.’ ” Then the people bowed down and worshiped. The Israelites did just what the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron.

At midnight the LORD struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well. Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead.

The Exodus
During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested. Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me.”

The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. “For otherwise,” they said, “we will all die!” So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing. The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing. The LORD had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.

The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children. Many other people went up with them, as well as large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds. With the dough they had brought from Egypt, they baked cakes of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.

Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years. At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the LORD’s divisions left Egypt. Because the LORD kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the LORD for the generations to come.

Sex Infection Gonorrhea Risks Becoming “Superbug”

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Hummm…let me see. I know I’ve blogged before about this really good method of preventing sexually transmitted diseases. What was it called again??
Oh yeah, abstinence, that was it. Yeah, you remember abstinence, don’t you?
What? You say that you’ve never been taught anything about abstinence?
Well, let me fill you in on it. It is the only 100% proven affective method of preventing sexually transmitted diseases, like the gonorrhea superbug.
The liberals take a different approach. You see, they don’t believe you are any better than an animal, with no self control. They believe you are “going to do it anyway”, so they prefer to encourage you to get sick with gonorrhea and herpes; things you will carry with you (and spread) for the rest of your life.
We Christian conservatives have a much better idea. Why not just do what God says to do and wait to have sex until you get married. That way neither one of you will have any sexually transmitted diseases and you can live a happy, healthy life and not have to fear the gonorrhea superbug at all.
Novel concept, huh? Give it try.

Catherine Ison, a specialist on gonorrhea from Britain’s Health Protection Agency said a World Health Organization (WHO) meeting in Manila next week would be vital to efforts to try to stop the bug repeatedly adapting to and overcoming drugs.

“This is a very clever bacteria. If this problem isn’t addressed, there is a real possibility that gonorrhea will become a very difficult infection to treat,” she said in a telephone interview.

Gonorrhea is a common bacterial sexually-transmitted infection and if left untreated can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy and infertility in women.

Globally, the WHO estimates that there are at least 340 million new cases of curable sexually transmitted infections — including syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomoniasis — every year among people aged 15 to 49.

Ison said the highest incidences of gonorrhea were in south and southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, but as yet the WHO has no breakdown by individual infection type.

Current treatment for gonorrhea in most countries consists of a single antibiotic dose of either cefixime or ceftriaxone.

But Ison, who is due to speak on the issue at a Society for General Microbiology conference in Edinburgh on Tuesday, said strains of the Neisseria gonorrhea bacteria were starting to become resistant and could soon become impervious to all current antibiotic treatment options.

“Ceftriaxone and cefixime are still very effective but there are signs that resistance, particularly to cefixime is emerging and soon these drugs may not be a good choice,” she said.

Instances of gonorrhea being resistant to multiple drugs — the definition of a “superbug” — have started to appear in Japan, where health authorities had decided to up the dose to treat the disease, but stick with the same antibiotic, she said.

Other reports of rising gonorrhea drug resistance had also come from Hong Kong, China, Australia and parts of Asia.

Ison said the best way to try to reduce the risk now — beyond encouraging the use of condoms which halt the spread of sexually transmitted diseases — would be to treat gonorrhea with two different antibiotics at the same time.

This is a technique used in the treatment of some other diseases like tuberculosis and one that makes it more difficult for the bacteria to learn how to conquer the drugs.

“There are few new drugs available. So using more than one at the same time is probably what should happen in the first instance,” said Ison. “We also need to set up good lines of communication between countries so that we can all talk to each other about what’s happening in gonorrhea and make sure we change treatment strategies when we need to.”

A WHO spokeswoman said its experts would discuss drug-resistant gonorrhea at a meeting in the Philippine capital Manila next week.

Judge: Same-Gender ‘Marriage’ Not a ‘Fundamental Right’

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

This is an interesting situation. Apparently two lesbians decided to get married in June of 2009. Since their state, Pennsylvania, does not offer marriage to gay people, they traveled to Massachusetts, where homosexual “marriage” is legal and got “married”.
Less than a year later, they decided it wasn’t working out for them (big surprise there) and wanted to get a divorce. Unfortunately, divorce is a much bigger deal than getting married. Since their state, Pennsylvania, does not recognize homosexual “marriage”, they tried to get their divorce in Massachusetts, but Massachusetts requires people seeking to get a divorce to be legal residents of that state, which these two lesbians are not; they live in Pennsylvania.
In order to get the divorce, they decided to try to get a court to rule that marriage is a fundamental right which would then allow them to get a divorce in Pennsylvania.
The court said “No”. Better luck next time, homosexual activist.

Carole Ann Kern and Robin Lynn Taney were married in June 2009 in Massachusetts, where homosexual “marriage” is legal. When they did not meet the residency requirements to file for divorce in that state, they returned to their home state and filed there. But Berks County Judge Scott Lash ruled as “unsupportable” the couple’s argument that same-sex marriage passes the test for being a “fundamental right.”

“This is a plea for social change,” the judge wrote. “If homosexuals had a fundamental right to be married to each other, this plea would be unnecessary.”

Diane Gramley of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania reacts to the judge’s ruling. “Well, I think we have at least one good judge in Pennsylvania,” she comments. “It was encouraging that he ruled that this lesbian couple could not get a divorce in Pennsylvania, because Pennsylvania does not recognize their marriage to begin with.”

“What Would Jesus Do about Healthcare Reform?” by Todd Strandberg

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Now that the Democrats in Congress have passed a healthcare overhaul by a vote of 219 to 212, the big question is what will happen next. A majority of the American people are not happy with this bill being rammed down their throats. The Republicans are vowing to fight it in the courts.

I have noticed a large amount of prophecy lingo tied to the healthcare bill. On the heels of the vote, a new Harris poll reveals Republican attitudes about President Obama: 24 percent say he may be the Antichrist. Obama didn’t help his AC numbers by mocking Republicans for acting as if the bill would lead to Armageddon. “After I signed the bill, I looked around to see if there were any asteroids falling, some cracks opening up in the earth,” Obama said, adding it turned out to be a nice day and “birds were chirping, folks were strolling down the mall.”

One of the most irritating events of last week was the liberal media coming to the Democrats’ aid. The press wasted no time capitalizing on claims that House Democrats have faced violent threats after the healthcare vote. Immediately, the blame was placed on Tea Party members and Republicans.

The liberal media turns a blind eye whenever Republicans are threatened. Alaska’s former governor, Sarah Palin, has recently received death threats against herself and her family. House Minority Whip Eric Cantor was allegedly shot at while he was at his campaign office in Richmond, Virginia–an act that far surpasses telephone threats. The coverage of this event has been minimal.

People have been sending letters to the White House to vent their anger, but it’s almost a worthless effort. Each week, our beloved leader typically gets 15,000-25,000 letters, 20,000-25,000 faxes, 120,000-150,000 e-mails, and 10,000-12,000 phone calls. His staff says that he only reads ten items each day. Since we have to naturally assume that 60 to 100 percent of the letters are of a supportive tone, the chance of getting the president’s ear is extremely remote.

It is very aggravating to watch our nation being guided down a path towards financial destruction. I’ve already said in several NM updates that America is headed for bankruptcy. Even before the vote, Social Security had $15.1 trillion in unfunded liabilities. The tab for Medicare is an even more staggering $36.4 trillion. Why would a couple more trillion dollars matter?

GOP strategists are looking to the upcoming November 2 as their best chance repeal the healthcare bill. Even if they get a majority, it’s unlikely they will gain enough seats to override an Obama veto. They could forward their hopes to the 2012 presidential election, but it’s questionable whether there will be something worth saving by the time the next president would take office in January 2013.

With all this gloom, it is important to ask ourselves what Jesus would do about this mess. I don’t see the Lord becoming politically involved in the debate. I just can’t envision Him outside Capitol Hill, waving a “Don’t tread on me” flag.

Jesus never once said what the Roman Empire should be doing for its citizens. When Jesus walked the earth, He personally fed the hungry and healed the sick. He didn’t ask anybody for his or her health insurance card, and he didn’t lobby Romans to establish affordable healthcare. If mankind had trusted God for good health, the average life span might still reach the upper hundreds.

The last time I checked, old age still had a 100 percent fatality rate. The healthcare crisis will never be solved because there is no remedy for the corrupt nature of our bodies. We shouldn’t spend all our time worrying about Blue Cross. Our focus should be on the true cross.

“He healed all that were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying: Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses” (Matthew 8:16-17).

Global Warming Advocates Threaten Blizzard of Lawsuits

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Having lost out to common sense in the legislative arena, the environmental whackos are going to their liberal, activist judges for help. More frivolous lawsuits to tie up our judicial systems and millions of dollars to line the pockets of blood sucking lawyers.

Environmentalists, unable to squeeze “cap and trade” rules through the U.S. Senate, have a new strategy for combating what they believe is man-made global warming:

They’re going to sue.

They’re revving up their briefs and getting ready to shop for judges who will be sympathetic to their novel claim that the companies they believe contribute to global warming are a “public nuisance.”

The environmentalists allege that individual companies are responsible for climate change because they have emitted greenhouse gases during the course of their operations. Those gases, they say, have “harmed” them by fostering Hurricane Katrina, eroding the shorelines of America’s coasts and causing global warming.

“People have a right to sue for redress of grievances,” said Lee A. DeHihns III, a partner with law firm Alston & Bird’s environmental and land development group and a former associate general counsel with the EPA. He said global warming is a “public nuisance,” just like a neighbor with a loud stereo. “You can sue for an intentional infliction of harm, a nuisance,” said DeHihns, whose firm is consulting with plaintiffs pursuing these cases.

The lawyers seek a “consent decree,” an agreement from the defendants to stop causing global warming — even though the theory that mankind causes global warming is hardly settled science.

“There is some dispute whether greenhouse gas is a source of global warming at all,” said John Heintz, chairman of the Washington D.C. law firm Kelly Drye Warren. “Even if these defendants were to stop emitting greenhouse gases altogether, it is exceedingly unlikely that the severity or frequency of hurricanes will be affected. Or that the sea coasts of Alaska will change.”

Militia Accused of Plotting War on U.S. Gov’t

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Make no mistake about it; these people may believe themselves to be true “Christians”, but they have most certainly lost sight of the teachings of Jesus. There is very little to no difference between these groups and the Muslim terrorist groups.

WHEATLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich.– A ninth alleged member of a Christian militia group that prepared to battle the Antichrist and the U.S. government was arrested after the FBI played recorded messages from family and friends, who urged the man to give himself up, over loudspeakers outside a home in rural Michigan.

Joshua Matthew Stone peacefully surrendered to heavily armed authorities Monday night. His father and seven others believed to be part of the Michigan-based Hutaree appeared in court earlier on charges they plotted to kill a police officer and slaughter scores more by bombing the funeral — all in hopes of touching off an uprising against the government.

Most of the arrests came during weekend raids in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. FBI agents moved quickly against Hutaree because members planned an attack sometime in April, prosecutors said. Authorities seized guns but would not say whether they found explosives.

The arrests dealt “a severe blow to a dangerous organization that today stands accused of conspiring to levy war against the United States,” Attorney General Eric Holder said.

In an indictment, prosecutors said the group began military-style training in the Michigan woods in 2008, learning how to shoot guns and make and set off bombs.
