“Immigration Issue Reveals Prejudice of Leaders” by Carol Platt Liebau

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Last week, the immigration issue told voters a lot about the men leading Great Britain and its erstwhile colony, the United States. Unfortunately, most of it wasn’t very good.

Hapless British Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s re-election campaign was shaken to its roots when a live microphone broadcast him calling Gillian Duffy, one of his constituents, a “bigoted woman.” The basis for Brown’s claim? The grandmotherly Duffy had asked him, “You can’t say anything about the immigrants, because you’re saying that you’re… but all these Eastern Europeans what are coming in, where are they all flocking from?” That was all.

Here in the United States, President Obama has been lucky enough to evade open microphones. Even so, he’s made his views clear when it comes to those who favor stemming the tide of illegal immigrants into the Southwest. After Arizona passed a law empowering state and local police to determine people’s immigration status if there is “reasonable suspicion” they are in the United States illegally, Obama immediately denounced the law as “misguided” and slammed the “irresponsibility” of the Arizona legislature.

In southwestern states, overcrowded schools, jam-packed emergency rooms, teeming prisons and congested highways have become the norm, all as a result of the federal government’s ongoing refusal to enforce the immigration laws on the books. It’s unreasonable – and unfair – to believe that everyone who objects does so only for invidious reasons.

Ultimately, perhaps the greatest failing of Brown and Obama – and those in the governing classes more generally – is one of imagination. As governments in both countries grow by leaps and bounds, every new layer of bureaucracy further insulates and isolates the rulers from the everyday existences of those they rule. If the Prime Minister and the President honestly can’t discern any reason but bigotry for their fellow citizens’ concerns about immigration, perhaps it means they’ve been living a life of privilege, courtesy of the taxpayers, for just a little too long.

“Christian Arrested for Saying Homosexuality is a Sin” by Michael G. Mickey

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

According to a report by the Telegraph, a Christian street preacher in the United Kingdom, Dale McAlpine, was arrested by a “homosexual police community support officer” because McAlpine was “reciting a number of “sins” referred to in the Bible, including blasphemy, drunkenness and same sex relationships”, which is apparently grounds for arrest under a law referred to as the “Public Order Act”.

According to the report, the Public Order Act was introduced in 1986 to deal with “violent rioters” and “football hooligans”, but today? It is being used to combat religious free speech as seen in this incident. Alarming? Yes, but this is the world we live in.

The following is an excerpt from the report that explains, apparently from McAlpine’s perspective, the events that led to him being arrested and held in jail for seven hours before he was released on bail:

Mr McAlpine was handing out leaflets explaining the Ten Commandments or offering a “ticket to heaven” with a church colleague on April 20, when a woman came up and engaged him in a debate about his faith.

During the exchange, he says he quietly listed homosexuality among a number of sins referred to in 1 Corinthians, including blasphemy, fornication, adultery and drunkenness.

After the woman walked away, she was approached by a PCSO who spoke with her briefly and then walked over to Mr McAlpine and told him a complaint had been made, and that he could be arrested for using racist or homophobic language.

The street preacher said he told the PCSO: “I am not homophobic but sometimes I do say that the Bible says homosexuality is a crime against the Creator”.

He claims that the PCSO then said he was homosexual and identified himself as the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender liaison officer for Cumbria police. Mr McAlpine replied: “It’s still a sin.”

The preacher then began a 20 minute sermon, in which he says he mentioned drunkenness and adultery, but not homosexuality. Three regular uniformed police officers arrived during the address, arrested Mr. McAlpine and put him in the back of a police van.

Not only is it shocking to hear that a man was arrested simply for expressing his religious beliefs, none of which were based on his personal opinion but on the clear teachings of the Holy Bible, he has been effectively barred from expressing his religious faith publicly by the conditions set forth in his bail. To be freed from jail, he had to agree to surrender his freedom of religion and speech, at least until he is tried for his ‘crime’ of being Christian in public. God help us! While this didn’t take place in the United States, we would be naive, as I believe time will reveal, to think that similar events won’t take place here as well, potentially in the near future.

I know what some people are going to say. “Mike, that’s absurd. There is no reason to suspect that whatsoever!” If you think that, you’re in for a surprise, in my humble opinion, if the Lord delays His return much longer.

It’s likely no one imagined a man of God would be arrested for preaching God’s Word publicly in the United Kingdom when the Public Order Act was introduced in 1986, but it has happened and let’s not forget that we have a new federal law on the books that many believe may be utilized to oppress religious free speech here in the United States in the future, the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which was signed into law by President Obama in October of 2009.

While there is nothing in the new hate crimes law that specifically addresses religious free speech as a hate crime in and of itself, an extraordinary effort is underway in the United States of America to legitimize the homosexual lifestyle as healthy, normal and sinless. If you think for a moment that activists supportive of the homosexual agenda want anything less than to impose their beliefs on everyone, to include silencing the Word of God’s teaching of homosexuality as a sin, you are sadly mistaken.

If there is a manner through which supporters of the homosexual agenda can utilize the current law to intimidate and persecute bible-believing Christians, they will do so, just as the Public Order Act is presently being utilized in the United Kingdom in a manner it was never intended to! If there isn’t presently a way to do so, rest assured these same individuals will continue to seek the means to do so. Why? For the same reason that atheists wish to see every symbol of God removed from public view and relentlessly fight to that end. Unrepentant mankind hates to be reminded that there is a God, that He has rules and they are all going to be held accountable by Him!

Be Prepared

Christians have been arrested in Canada, Australia and now the United Kingdom for merely referring to homosexuality as a sin. It has happened in other nations as well, but these stand out in my memory because those nations are similar to our own in many regards. Expect the trend to continue.

John 15:20, the words of Christ (emphasis added mine):

Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

We are today living in the end times spoken of in bible prophecy. As such, we’d do well to make note of Christ’s words and steel our minds because what we’re presently documenting taking place in other nations around the globe? It’s just a matter of time until it begins happening here.

How are we going to respond when it does?

U.S. Revises Tack on Mideast Arms

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Obama is preparing to hang Israel out to dry again.
This time, it’s over making the entire Middle East a nuclear free zone. Sounds good, huh?
Many will make the point that Israel should not be exempt from this agreement. My response is, “you’re dead wrong”. Let me explain why.
Israel is the only nation in the Middle East which is under constant threat of annihilation from its neighbors.
You see, in a conventional war, Israel troops and weapons are outnumbered almost 100 to 1, if every neighboring Arab nation was to contribute to a war against them. These same Arab nations have either overtly proclaimed (or quietly declared it to other Arab countries) their intention of wiping Israel off the face of the earth.
Therefor Israel’s nuclear weapons are one of the few deterrents they have to make the surrounding Arab nations pause in any attempts to destroy them.
One could very logically make the point, when a nation is faced with the constant threat annihilation and genocide, all weapons should be available, including nuclear weapons.
None the less, I fully expect Obama to slap Israel (and by extension, God) yet again.

The U.S. is negotiating with Egypt a proposal to make the Middle East a region free of nuclear weapons, as the U.S. seeks to prevent Iran from derailing a monthlong U.N. conference on nuclear nonproliferation that begins Monday.

U.S. officials familiar with the move call it an important step in assuring countries that Washington—criticized by some for its silence about Israel’s undeclared nuclear arsenal—will equitably address weapons proliferation across the region, as Iran seeks to shift focus away from its own nuclear program.

Washington also reassured Israel it won’t foist a nuclear-free zone on the region until all parties agree to it and significant progress has been made on Mideast peace.

The U.N. conference on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which is held every five years, is expected to begin with a bang Monday with an address by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has condemned the West for its refusal to disarm and for tacitly accepting Israel’s nuclear capability.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will follow the Iranian leader in the afternoon.

The U.N. talks come at a time when Iran is believed to be heading toward a nuclear capability and the U.S. and allies have been pressing for new, tough Security Council sanctions to curb Tehran’s program.

“The Iranians are clearly intending to spoil the party,” said a senior U.S. official involved in the nuclear diplomacy. The official highlighted the importance of raising Mideast nuclear-free zone issues.

The designation of the region as a zone free of weapons of mass destruction was a nonbinding agreement that emerged from a 1995 U.N. review of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, a 1970 pact to limit the spread of nuclear weapons. That 1995 agreement was pivotal because it won the indefinite extension of the treaty, but no action on the zone has been taken since.

NYPD Seek Man Captured on Video Near Failed Bomb

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Over the weekend, there was a failed terrorist plot to set off a bomb in Times Square. The crude bomb didn’t explode and was defused. If it had gone off, the loss of life would have been terrible.
At this time, no one is taking credit for the bombing attempt and authorities do not have anyone in custody, although they do have a video of someone who may be involved.

NEW YORK — Police investigating a terror attack that could have set off a deadly fireball in Times Square focused Sunday on finding a man who was videotaped shedding his shirt near the SUV where the bomb was found.

Police said the gasoline-and-propane bomb was crude but could have sprayed shrapnel and metal parts with enough force to kill pedestrians and knock out windows on one of America’s busiest streets, full of Broadway theaters and restaurants on a Saturday night.

The bomb “looks like it would have caused a significant fireball” had it fully detonated, police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

A large amount of fertilizer rigged with wires and fireworks was found with the bomb, but police said it was not the ammonium nitrate grade that can explode.

The surveillance video shows an unidentified white man apparently in his 40s slipping down an alley and taking off a shirt, revealing another underneath. In the same clip, he’s seen looking back in the direction of the smoking vehicle and furtively putting the first shirt in a bag, Kelly said.

May 1: Armed NYPD officers talk to each other as police and fire personnel close off the area in New York’s Times Square.

New York City police close down parts of Times Square after a ‘failed incendiary device’ was found in car.

The homemade bomb was made largely with ordinary items, including three barbecue grill-size propane tanks, two 5-gallon gasoline containers, store-bought fireworks and cheap alarm clocks attached to wires.

“Clearly it was the intent of whoever did this to cause mayhem, to create casualties,” Kelly said.

Authorities didn’t know how deadly the bomb could have been, how it failed or who was responsible.

Police had already identified the registered owner of the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder — which didn’t have an easily visible vehicle identification number and had license plates from another car — and were looking to interview him. Police also were searching more video, believed to be in the possession of a Pennsylvania tourist, of a person spotted near the car.

The bomb at Times Square, one of the flashiest and best-known places on Earth, was found at the height of dinner hour before theatergoers headed to Saturday night shows.

Timers were connected to a 16-ounce can filled with fireworks, which were apparently intended to set the gas cans and propane afire, Kelly said. The vehicle would have been “cut in half” by an explosion, and people nearby could have been sprayed by shrapnel and killed, he said.
