According to combined news sources, just two days before gunman Anders Behring Breivik opened fire on teenagers participating in Norway’s ruling party youth camp on the island of Utoya, the campers met with Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere and demanded he recognize the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The Norwegian web site “Politisk” reported that in his address, Mr. Gahr Stoere told the youngsters that the Palestinians deserve a country of their own and that the Israeli occupation must end.” Several of the youths waved signs reading, “Boycott Israel” as the foreign minister further told them that Oslo is waiting for the official Palestinian proposal to be submitted to the UN in September. Earlier last week, this information was corroborated Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas visited Norway and was told that Oslo will recognize Palestine.

Eskil Pedersen, leader of the Workers’ Youth League said that the movement endorses a financial embargo on Israel, adding that they will “pursue a more active policy in the Middle East” and expressed support for the resumption of peace talks. Gahr Stoere agreed, but said a boycott was counterproductive; explaining it will turn the dialogue into a monologue.

Prior to the arrest of 32-year old Anders Behring Breivik, the Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami group, a radical Islamic organization, claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the group said the offensive was meant to be a revenge operation for Norway’s military role in Afghanistan as well as insults to Prophet Mohammad.

Norway’s Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg said he did not want to speculate on the motives for the attacks. “Compared to other countries I wouldn’t say we have a big problem with right-wing extremists in Norway. But we have had some groups, we have followed them before, and our police is aware that there are some right-wing groups,” he told a news conference. He also told reporters that he had spent many summers on the island of Utoya, which was hosting a youth retreat for his party and added that Utoya was “my childhood paradise that yesterday was transformed into hell.”

Meanwhile, Breivik made his first court appearance yesterday In a closed-door arraignment. Oslo District Court Judge Kim Heger decided on a closed-door detention hearing on a request from police, according to a statement reported by the Associated Press, denying Breivik the public platform he’d hoped for. The Associated Press has reported that Breivik’s attorney, Geir Lippestad, told the Norwegian press that his client had requested to appear at his arraignment in uniform but didn’t know what kind of uniform.

Breivik, who has confessed to dressing as a police officer and firing on youths on the Norwegian island and to detonating a bomb outside the Norwegian prime minister’s office just hours before the shooting spree insists that he acted alone. He has said that he wanted to attack Norwegian society in order to change it, according to Acting National Police Chief Sveinung Sponheim. Breivik has told his lawyer that he wanted to transform the Western world, according to reports. Prosecutors are expected to request eight weeks of pretrial detention for the suspect while they put their case together.

A few years back, I realized it’s important to have a basic understanding of people you regard as your foes. If you constantly rely on secondhand information, errors will seep into your commentary. Since we may write about an individual or a group several times over a period of time, I decided to make occasional trips to see these folks with my own eyes.

In 2010, I went to New York to get an understanding of how the liberal media works. I visited several news organizations. I had the chance to sit in the NBC news anchor’s chair, and I watched a taping of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

This year, I decided to do some research on atheists. The people who don’t believe in God have become very organized. The James Randi Educational Foundation hosts what is called “The Amazing Meeting” (TAM). It is a gathering that promotes science, skepticism, and critical thinking about paranormal and supernatural claims. Since it has a broader agenda than a regular atheist conference, I thought it would be the perfect candidate.

On the opening day of the TAM conference, I could tell the membership was different from that at the dozens of prophecy conferences I’ve attended over the years. There was a huge number of people with oddly dyed hair–bright red, blue, and purple were the most popular colors. Another thing that caught my eye were several women with very manly features such as short hair, “butch” clothes, and tattoos.

There was some useful information in many of the lectures. Several speakers debunked products that promoted all types of medical cures and mystics who claimed to have supernatural powers–and they managed to lower my opinion of the liberal media by telling how nearly everything we see on TV is fabricated.

The negative side was clearly the attacks against God. It struck me as hypocritical that they would promote the idea of free thinking and then turn around and make atheism the only conclusion to every thought process. If they don’t believe in a “Guy up in the sky,” I don’t understand why they would make such a fuss over Him.

The most disturbing part of the conference was the members’ dedication to the atheistic agenda. During the four-day event, members were given their marching orders to spread the TAM message far and wide. I sat in on one study group that taught members how to use the local media and the school board to advance Darwinism. Children were mentioned as prime targets because their fresh minds can be easily indoctrinated.

Sadly, I’ve never been to a Christian conference that offers such a detailed training program on evangelism. I would have to go back to the revival camp meetings of my early childhood to recall a time that equaled what I witnessed at the TAM gathering.

Atheists seem to be following the same game plan used by communism. During the Cold War, communists threatened to take over the world. Even though it was a hopelessly flawed system, it maintained itself by its hatred of capitalism. Atheists are unified in their opposition to religion. If the church were to suddenly disappear, the atheists would have no purpose. Of course, this scenario may soon happen.

Another huge problem is their failure to be consistent on prohibition of gods of any kind. Sure, they sneer at deities like Zeus, Apollo, and the God of the Bible, but they have no problem with gods in human flesh. Everywhere I looked, people were puffing themselves up as some type of secular savior.

I had conversations with several big names in science, and I found most of them extremely snobbish and only interested in making a name for themselves. There must have been around 30 speakers at the conference and very few of them were at their own book tables to answer questions from the members. They were all stars, and it was beneath them to serve tables.

These folks wouldn’t understand Jesus’ formula for greatness:

“But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted” (Matthew 23:11-12).

I was speaking with one member who admitted that atheism will never become a majority belief system unless it copies the methods used by Christians. I spoke with Richard Dawkins, the author of the book, The God Delusion. He was extremely optimistic about the recent upsurge in atheism, but I think his joy will be short lived. The next time we have another downturn in the global economy, I predicted the few people who have turned to his camp will come running back to theism looking for hope.

Bible prophecy forecasts very dark days for atheism. During the tribulation hour, the Antichrist will perform such spectacular miracles that there will be no room for skepticism. You will either be a dedicated follower of the Beast or a tribulation saint.

Introduced by Pastor John Hagee, the founder and chairman of Christians United For Israel (CUFI), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed a gathering of thousands of ardent Christian Zionists via satellite from Jerusalem on Tuesday afternoon, July 19th at a special “Middle East Briefing” session at the sixth annual CUFI national summit in Washington.

Greeted with over 10 minutes of applause and enthusiastic cheers, Mr. Netanyahu extended his appreciation to Pastor Hagee for his “unwavering support and commitment for Israel” and for those Christian supporters of Israel who have the “courage to stand up and speak the truth.” Sharing the same sentiments that he did in his speech before the Joint Sessions of Congress in late May, Netanyahu said, “Israel is not what’s wrong with the Middle East; it’s what is right about it. Israel is a country that draws from the same well as you. Both America and Israel were forged on the same principles, the same ideas and so we have shared values and common hopes for the future.”

Drawing the largest applause was Netanyahu’s reference to the biblical connection of the Jewish people to their ancestral homeland. “The Jewish people are not occupiers in the land of Israel. We have returned to the land of our forebearers; of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David and Solomon and we are here to stay.” Speaking of Israel as America’s only reliable ally in the Middle East. Netanyahu underscored Israel’s initiatives at the peace table. “This conflict is not about Israel refusing to accept a Palestinian state. Israel wants peace with the Palestinians, but we can’t build a peace based on lies.”

Also addressing the “Middle East Briefing” session was Malcolm Hoenlein, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Speaking of the significance of Shiva Asar B’Tammuz (the 17th of Tammuz), he said, “Today we begin a three week period of mourning for the Jewish people as we remember the destruction of our Holy Temple and other calamities that befell us throughout history.” Speaking of the Torah portion that examines the narrative of the “miraglim” (spies) who represented the 12 tribes of Israel, he asked his biblically well versed audience; “If I would ask you to provide the names of those spies who returned from the land of Israel with a negative report, would you remember their names? The answer is no because those who stand with Israel are remembered for posterity and those who decry Israel are forgotten.”

Spotlighting the nefarious international campaign to abrogate the biblical and religious heritage of the Jewish people and the land of Israel that are so inextricably intertwined, Mr. Hoenlein said, “Those who would dismiss our past also risk our future. For example, there are those who question Judaism’s undeniable ties with Rachel’s Tomb and thus would like to transform it into a mosque. There are those who say that our temples never existed. Our bible tells us that Abraham purchased the city of Hebron, in broad daylight, in full view of all, because he knew that in the future its ownership would be challenged. Today there are regular archeological discoveries which serve as concrete proof of the fact that when you open your bibles, the land of Israel comes to life. We must ask ourselves; why did G-d give this generation the privilege of uncovering this Jewish connection. What does it mean for us in the future?”

Mr. Hoenlein concluded by telling the members of CUFI that when they stand for Israel, they stand for America. He called them “an army of truth” who also stands “with their their forefathers and foremothers and will be thanked by their grandchildren for doing so.”

Elliott Chodoff, an American born political and military analyst and an IDF reserve major delivered an erudite account of the history of radical Islamism during the briefing. Replete with a plethora of hard facts, Mr. Chodoff outlined the genesis of such organizations as the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and Hezbollah. “The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 and its leader imbibed the Nazi ideology that focused on the extermination of the Jews.” Noting that Iranian cleric Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran who came to power during the Islamic revolution of 1979 was active in disseminating the Muslim Brotherhood ideology to school children said that it was he (Khomeini) who was the first to label Americas as “the great satan” and referred to Christians as the enemies while declaring that America is run by Jews.

American perception of Khomeini was skewed according to Mr. Chodoff, who revealed that at the time, the US representative at the United Nations Andrew Young said that Khomeini was “a great humanitarian” and dismissed his flagrant hostility. He added that Hezbollah (the party of G-d) that was founded in 1980 is currently “the most dangerous organization on earth” and is responsible for developing the terrorist strategy of suicide bombings with most of them directed at American targets. Recalling the Hezbollah orchestrated bombing of the US Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1982 in which 241 American military personnel were killed, Chodoff said that it was weakness on the part of the US as manifested by their decision to leave Lebanon in the throes of terrorism that emboldened the enemy. “When Hezbollah saw that Americans were taking leave of Lebanon they knew they could push us out”, he said.

Citing Israeli military intelligence, Chodoff was quite forthright in his analysis of both the position of Israel and America during a possible attack by Iran. “Israel cannot survive a nuclear attack. You cannot trust a nuclear deterrent. Israel cannot wipe out Iran’s nuclear arsenal but the US can.” Prompting the US to take the lead in the war against the nascent Iranian nuclear buildup, Chodoff added that the Iranian regime has been developing bombs that have the capability of hitting US cities on the East coast

The briefing session also included an informative address by Colonel Ben Tzion Gruber of the Israel Defense Forces who is also a renowned motivational speaker. Offering a hands-on glimpse into the scrupulous ethical and moral code of conduct that the IDF is predicated upon, Col. Gruber took his audience through a real-time video and slide presentation that concretely described how the IDF takes great pains to avoid civilian casualties during military strikes and during wartime. He said that the nomenclature of the code of ethics can be divided into three categories. “Necessity”, he said, means that force is only employed for accomplishing the mission, and “Distinction” means that every measure is taken so that innocents will not be harmed, and “Proportionality” means that collateral damage is only used in proportion to the threat.

John Bolton, former United States Ambassador to the United Nations, had some strong words for the world body on Monday evening, July 18th as he delivered a broad-based foreign policy speech during the Chairman’s Club dinner at the sixth annual Christians United For Israel (CUFI) national summit in Washington, DC.

Speaking from the podium of the Washington Convention Center, Ambassador Bolton addressed the upcoming vote, scheduled for September at the United Nations General Assembly in which the Palestinian Authority will call for nation states to cast their vote for the establishment of an independent state.

“This effort is an attack on Israel’s legitimacy”, said Bolton adding that it comes as no surprise because “for the last two and half years, President Obama has been negotiating on behalf of the Palestinians.” Supporting Israel’s right to live in “peace and security”, Bolton said that the solution to the seemingly intractable Israeli-Palestinian conflict must by resolved by the “parties of conflict” and not by the machinations of the United Nations. He called on Congress to “pass a law taking the wind out of the Palestinian sails; and should get Obama to be an honest broker in Middle East peace negotiations and get his thumb off the pedal of the Palestinians.”

Reminding his audience over of 600 that this is not the first time in modern history that the Palestinians have attempted to declare their own state, he said, “In 1988, they (the Palestinians) did the same thing and then joined specialized agencies of the United Nations to further their agenda.” He also noted that the intended vote reflects a repudiation of US foreign policy and is direct contravention of UN resolutions 242 and 338.”

Calling for the US to employ strong measures against the UN if it does something “profoundly wrong” by de-legitimizing Israel, Bolton said the US should tell the Europeans that if they adopt this resolution, there will be no funding for the UN. Back in 1988, former Secretary of State James Baker threatened any UN agency that funded the PLO, Bolton added. The US must state unequivocally that “we’re not going to give the UN legitimacy or authority in this matter and we’re not going to allow the UN General Assembly to have an effect on Middle East policy,” intoned Bolton.

Turning his attention to the rapidly unfolding political ramifications of the “Arab Spring”, Bolton said that while former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was no “Jeffersonian democrat”, he was loyal to the maintenance of the Camp David accords and to the US and added that he “was thrown under the bus” by President Obama. Reviewing the political path that Egypt has taken since the January 25th revolution, and the trouble it could spell with for Israel, Bolton said, “Even though Mubarak is gone, the military is still in control in Egypt and they have lifted the embargo in Gaza and have strengthened the Hamas/Fatah government. Egypt will still have full diplomatic relations with Iran and now candidates running for the presidency of Egypt have called for the Camp David accords to be ‘revised’.

Bolton also chided the current US administration for “losing our strategic vision in the Middle East” and called for Libyan strongman Muammar Qadaffi to be overthrown. “He (Qadaffi) has a nuclear, chemical and biological weapons program and his commitment to terrorism has made him a great danger to the United States.” Taking note of the fact that monarchies in the Arabian peninsula have expressed concern about securing President Obama’s support in the face of violently pro-Islamist demonstrations that have swept the region , Bolton said, “Iran has attempted to use the turmoil in Bahrain to their advantage and will not stop there.”

Concerning the burgeoning nuclear threat emanating from Iran, Bolton weighed in on this issue by saying, “Diplomacy and economic sanctions are just not working. Pointing to North Korea he said, “The US imposed sanctions against them and they have exploded two nuclear devices in the last 10 years.” Making several oblique references to the fact that overthrowing the Iranian regime would be in the best interests of the United States, Bolton said the unacceptable US attitude vis-a-vis Iran has been, “We don’t want Iran to have nuclear weapons, but we can live with it.” Stating that the long-range agenda of Iranian nuclear proliferation is exclusively for purposes of terrorism and launching an attack on Israel, he said that the US cannot “accept Iran even having a small nuclear arsenal.”

“Even if Iran could be deterred from furthering their nuclear objectives”, said Bolton, “it is inherently an unstable regime that is not sustainable and no one is willing to address that.” Urging his audience to “take back our government and assert leadership”, he concluded by declaring that, “the most powerful force on earth is not nuclear weapons but an aroused American public.”

Receiving numerous rousing ovations and thunderous applause, FOX television personality Glenn Beck told an audience of over 5000 gathered at the Christians United For Israel (CUFI) national summit in Washington that if the pernicious trends in global anti-Semitism culminate in another genocide “then count me as a Jew, and come for me first”. Mr. Beck delivered these remarks as part of his keynote address at “The Night to Honor Israel” gala banquet at organization’s sixth annual convocation on Tuesday evening, February 19th.

Having just returned from a trip to Israel where he addressed the Knesset Committee on Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs at the invitation of Deputy Knesset Speaker Danny Danon, Mr. Beck opened his speech by announcing his donation of $10,000 to the “CUFI On Campus” student organization that battles anti-Israel propaganda on hundreds of college and university campuses across America. Referencing his emotional trip to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, he stated his of-repeated belief that the inherent rights of the US Constitution and those delineated in the Declaration of Independence were a mandatory requirement for the prevention of evil of this magnitude from occurring. “The founding fathers had the answer 150 years before Hitler showed up,” he said, but reminded his audience that for two millennia, the Jewish people were not accorded those rights in the countries in which they resided.

Until the modern State of Israel was established in 1948, he said the Jews “have had no home base” and added that “this is why the nation of Israel is vital.”. Recalling the painful history of the Jewish nation, he intoned, “”They have been smeared. They have been maligned. But to our shame as human beings most of all, they have been forgotten in times of need.” Speaking directly to the Jewish people he said, “No one can protect your rights better than you. To rely on others is to ensure economic slavery at best, and death camps at worse.”

Spotlighting the existential siege that the Jewish state finds herself under by the looming Iranian nuclear threat and the forces of radical Islam in the Middle East and throughout the world, Mr. Beck concluded his address by issuing stern warnings to the enemies of Israel and the Jewish people that “times have changed” and the Jews would no longer stand alone in any potential confrontation.

“This is still America 2011. We are not the Christians of the Crusades. We are Christians United For Israel,” he declared.

Reiterating Mr. Beck’s sentiments was Pastor John Hagee, founder and chairman of Christians United For Israel who also delivered an impassioned address. “Mr. Ahmadinejad: Do not threaten the people of Israel and the people of America”, he said. Citing those miscreants throughout history who have sought to eradicate the Jewish people, he noted, “Look at Pharoah of Egypt and Haman of Persia in the story of Purim and you will have some idea of G-d’s punishment for you,”

Quoting Winston Churchill who said, “Courage is the first of qualities; courage is everything”, Pastor Hagee exhorted his acolytes to “dare to be yourself in the face of adversity; to have the courage to admit the truth.” Acting on his words Pastor Hagee then declared, “President Obama is not pro-Israel and he has broadcast that around the world. President Obama has told Israel not to build homes in Jerusalem. He has no right or authority to tell the Jewish people what to do.”

Advising the President to vent his rancor at those nations that are adversarial to the United States, he said, “Go tell Iran, China and Russia what to do. Israel is not a vassal state of the United States. It is free to determine their borders and their destiny. They are free to retaliate against anyone who attacks them.”

Speaking of the “toothless sanctions” that have been imposed on Iran, he proffered his belief that “Iran will become nuclear” and if attacked, “the liberal media would blame Israel for starting a war with Iran.”

Taking on those who have attempted to revise the Jewish narrative with statements geared towards separating the Jewish people from their religious and historical connection to the land of Israel, Pastor Hagee said, “We are still one nation under G-d, and it was G-d who gave the land of Israel to Abraham and it belongs to the Jewish people forever. The Jewish people are not occupying this land; they own this land.”
Addressing former White House Correspondent Helen Thomas who achieved dubious notoriety in June of 2010 when she told an interviewer that “Jews should get the hell out of Palestine” and to “go home to Germany, Poland and the United States”, Pastor Hagee said, “Helen, the Jews are not going anywhere. They are home.”

Also addressing the assemblage was Michael Oren, the Israeli ambassador to the United States who spoke of the meritorious deeds of such righteous gentiles as Major-General Orde Charles Wingate, a British Army officer and creator of special Jewish military units in British mandated Palestine in the 1930s and in World War II. Ambassador Oren said that as a devoutly religious Christian, Wingate became an ardent supporter of Zionism, seeing it as his religious duty to help the Jewish community in Palestine form an independent Jewish state.

Also lauding the multifarious accomplishments of the late Washington state senator, Henry “Scoop” Jackson, Oren said, “As a child Senator Jackson was taught to respect Jews in the Christian home he grew up in” and credited him with sponsoring legislation aimed at freeing Jews from the former Soviet Union. In 1974, while in the Senate, Jackson co-sponsored what has come to be known as the Jackson-Vanik amendment with Charles Vanik sponsoring it in the House. The amendment was intended to help refugees, specifically Jews, to emigrate from the former USSR. He recalled that such celebrated Soviet prisoners of conscience such as Natan (Anatoly) Sharansky who currently holds the position of chairman of the Jewish Agency in Israel, praised Jackson as a “defender of Israel; a torch bearer of faith.”

What many people, Democrats and liberals at the top, don’t seem to understand, is that our debt and spending are unsustainable. It doesn’t matter how admirable or “necessary” a social program may be, if the money is not available to pay for it, it can’t continue.
Our country is headed down a very deep hole. Most people seem oblivious to it.
If we don’t cut spending drastically, we are going to wreck our economy and take the world with us.
It’s time for both Democrats and Republicans to make the tough, unpopular decisions. Cut hard and deep.

WASHINGTON – House Republican leaders are giving the tea party a chance to do things its way in the latest chapter in the saga over increasing the government’s borrowing limit and avoiding a first-ever default.

The chamber will vote Tuesday on a “cut, cap and balance” plan to let the government borrow another $2.4 trillion — but only after big and immediate spending cuts and adoption by Congress of a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced federal budget.

The plan is doomed in the Democratic-controlled Senate, and the White House has promised a veto.

The cut, cap and balance measure — and the veto threat issued Monday — sparked the latest in predictable tit-for-tat exchanges between combatants of Capitol Hill and in the White House, even as it was revealed that President Barack Obama hosted House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., at the White House on Sunday.

“We’re making progress,” Obama reported.

But the White House attacked the cut, cap and balance idea as an assault on cherished programs. The measure doesn’t contain any actual spending cuts but promises they will be made in the future.

“What we are witnessing here with this measure is classic Washington posturing, kabuki theater,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney, adding that the measure would “dismantle … our social safety net: Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”

Despite the veto threat, House Republicans said they would go ahead with plans to pass the bill Tuesday. “It’s disappointing the White House would reject this commonsense plan to rein in the debt and deficits that are hurting job creation in America,” Boehner said.

After the cut, cap and balance measure stalls, Senate leaders appear likely to try to advance a bipartisan plan to get around the debt limit crisis by giving Obama sweeping powers to order an increase in the borrowing limit. The backup measure faces furious opposition among groups like the Club for Growth and activists like blogger Erick Erickson of Redstate.com, whose opinions carry weight with many conservatives, but it’s nonetheless seen as probably the most viable option for avoiding a default in two weeks.

Barring action by Congress to raise the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling, the Treasury will be unable to pay all the government’s bills that come due beginning Aug. 3. Administration officials, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and others say the resulting default would inflict serious harm on the economy, which is still struggling to recover from the worst recession in decades.

I’ve never been able to find a service that provides the current ranking of top news stories. If there is such a list, the debt crisis would have to be at or near the top. In the past few weeks, I’ve read dozens of headlines about the debt problems of both Europe and the U.S.

I’ve had many discussions with friends about the social impact of an economy collapse. Some of my friends see us headed for a Mad Max world of total lawlessness, while others see a global government resulting from the turmoil.

Economists like to reference some point in the past to see what will happen in the future. I don’t think history will be much help in this case. During the Great Depression, despite massive unemployment, we had very little unrest. People banded together and did their best to survive the hardship.

Today we are facing a great unknown. America has lost much of its moral base, and I fear even a mild depression could trigger a dog-eat-dog condition. I feel safe here in the Bible belt, but I wouldn’t want to live in an inner city when welfare checks start bouncing.

If you want to see what the future might look like, just look at copper. The shiny orange metal is the target of thieves who sell it to scrap dealers for cash. The most shocking part is the measures they go to in order to obtain it.

The problem started out with abandoned houses. Crooks would go into homes that are vacant and strip all the copper piping and utilities that contained the metal. The situation quickly escalated to the point that any form of copper was fair game.

Georgia Power lost nearly a half a million dollars worth of copper wire last year. The utility is taking extra steps to stop copper thieves who have broken into several substations to clean them out. In many cases, the thefts were conducted on live power cables. Crews would respond to reports of outages and find that wires carrying 10,000 volts had been cut from the poles.

The theft has forced power companies to create a new product called proof-positive copper. It works by embedding a code in the conductor, the copper itself that can identify the owner or the purchaser of the conductor. This system can be defeated by melting the copper before selling it.

In Jackson, Mississippi, five tornado warning sirens failed to warn residents of an approaching tornado because thieves had stripped the sirens of copper wiring, rendering them inoperable. In New Mexico, thieves stole a crucial piece of copper bonding from a train track, which could have caused a derailment.

The most despicable examples would have to be all the churches that have been hit in the last few months. In Parker County, Texas, thieves have stolen or damaged air conditioning units at seven different churches. Faith Presbyterian Church in Aledo was vandalized when a unit was pulled from the side of the building. The damage will cost the church at least $10,000. Members of a church in Mesa, Arizona, had to sweat through a service after thieves stole two of the church’s three air conditioners. Authorities say the units weighed 5 tons each.

The price of copper has risen sharply in the past year, but it’s only $4 a pound. The value of copper in an AC unit is around $25. Copper had a similar spike in the 1970s, and, adjusted for inflation, its value would be around $6 per pound. We didn’t have a problem with people stealing copper back then.

Homeowners wouldn’t have to cage up their air conditioners if everyone understood the meaning of true treasure. Thieves steal copper from churches because money is the only thing they prize. The day will come when many of these foolish souls will find themselves in a place where they could use one of those 5 ton units. I would ask any thief, “Why would you trade away eternity for a few pounds of copper, when you have the opportunity to walk on streets paved in gold?”

Deadly Church Bombing in Nigeria: Police Blame ‘Militant Islamist’ Group

“Militant Islamist”…is there any other type?

The All Christians Fellowship Mission church was bombed in Nigeria Sunday, killing 3 and wounding 7. Officials say their first priority is tending to the victims.

According to Reuters, this is not the first time the Christian community has been targeted for attack. So far, a reported 150 have died in similar incidents this year. Police are blaming a militant Islamist group. The question is: with a death toll of 150 and counting, what are authorities doing to stop further attacks?
