“WE ARE HERE TO STAY” SAYS PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU” by Fern Sidman

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

Introduced by Pastor John Hagee, the founder and chairman of Christians United For Israel (CUFI), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed a gathering of thousands of ardent Christian Zionists via satellite from Jerusalem on Tuesday afternoon, July 19th at a special “Middle East Briefing” session at the sixth annual CUFI national summit in Washington.

Greeted with over 10 minutes of applause and enthusiastic cheers, Mr. Netanyahu extended his appreciation to Pastor Hagee for his “unwavering support and commitment for Israel” and for those Christian supporters of Israel who have the “courage to stand up and speak the truth.” Sharing the same sentiments that he did in his speech before the Joint Sessions of Congress in late May, Netanyahu said, “Israel is not what’s wrong with the Middle East; it’s what is right about it. Israel is a country that draws from the same well as you. Both America and Israel were forged on the same principles, the same ideas and so we have shared values and common hopes for the future.”

Drawing the largest applause was Netanyahu’s reference to the biblical connection of the Jewish people to their ancestral homeland. “The Jewish people are not occupiers in the land of Israel. We have returned to the land of our forebearers; of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David and Solomon and we are here to stay.” Speaking of Israel as America’s only reliable ally in the Middle East. Netanyahu underscored Israel’s initiatives at the peace table. “This conflict is not about Israel refusing to accept a Palestinian state. Israel wants peace with the Palestinians, but we can’t build a peace based on lies.”

Also addressing the “Middle East Briefing” session was Malcolm Hoenlein, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Speaking of the significance of Shiva Asar B’Tammuz (the 17th of Tammuz), he said, “Today we begin a three week period of mourning for the Jewish people as we remember the destruction of our Holy Temple and other calamities that befell us throughout history.” Speaking of the Torah portion that examines the narrative of the “miraglim” (spies) who represented the 12 tribes of Israel, he asked his biblically well versed audience; “If I would ask you to provide the names of those spies who returned from the land of Israel with a negative report, would you remember their names? The answer is no because those who stand with Israel are remembered for posterity and those who decry Israel are forgotten.”

Spotlighting the nefarious international campaign to abrogate the biblical and religious heritage of the Jewish people and the land of Israel that are so inextricably intertwined, Mr. Hoenlein said, “Those who would dismiss our past also risk our future. For example, there are those who question Judaism’s undeniable ties with Rachel’s Tomb and thus would like to transform it into a mosque. There are those who say that our temples never existed. Our bible tells us that Abraham purchased the city of Hebron, in broad daylight, in full view of all, because he knew that in the future its ownership would be challenged. Today there are regular archeological discoveries which serve as concrete proof of the fact that when you open your bibles, the land of Israel comes to life. We must ask ourselves; why did G-d give this generation the privilege of uncovering this Jewish connection. What does it mean for us in the future?”

Mr. Hoenlein concluded by telling the members of CUFI that when they stand for Israel, they stand for America. He called them “an army of truth” who also stands “with their their forefathers and foremothers and will be thanked by their grandchildren for doing so.”

Elliott Chodoff, an American born political and military analyst and an IDF reserve major delivered an erudite account of the history of radical Islamism during the briefing. Replete with a plethora of hard facts, Mr. Chodoff outlined the genesis of such organizations as the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and Hezbollah. “The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 and its leader imbibed the Nazi ideology that focused on the extermination of the Jews.” Noting that Iranian cleric Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran who came to power during the Islamic revolution of 1979 was active in disseminating the Muslim Brotherhood ideology to school children said that it was he (Khomeini) who was the first to label Americas as “the great satan” and referred to Christians as the enemies while declaring that America is run by Jews.

American perception of Khomeini was skewed according to Mr. Chodoff, who revealed that at the time, the US representative at the United Nations Andrew Young said that Khomeini was “a great humanitarian” and dismissed his flagrant hostility. He added that Hezbollah (the party of G-d) that was founded in 1980 is currently “the most dangerous organization on earth” and is responsible for developing the terrorist strategy of suicide bombings with most of them directed at American targets. Recalling the Hezbollah orchestrated bombing of the US Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1982 in which 241 American military personnel were killed, Chodoff said that it was weakness on the part of the US as manifested by their decision to leave Lebanon in the throes of terrorism that emboldened the enemy. “When Hezbollah saw that Americans were taking leave of Lebanon they knew they could push us out”, he said.

Citing Israeli military intelligence, Chodoff was quite forthright in his analysis of both the position of Israel and America during a possible attack by Iran. “Israel cannot survive a nuclear attack. You cannot trust a nuclear deterrent. Israel cannot wipe out Iran’s nuclear arsenal but the US can.” Prompting the US to take the lead in the war against the nascent Iranian nuclear buildup, Chodoff added that the Iranian regime has been developing bombs that have the capability of hitting US cities on the East coast

The briefing session also included an informative address by Colonel Ben Tzion Gruber of the Israel Defense Forces who is also a renowned motivational speaker. Offering a hands-on glimpse into the scrupulous ethical and moral code of conduct that the IDF is predicated upon, Col. Gruber took his audience through a real-time video and slide presentation that concretely described how the IDF takes great pains to avoid civilian casualties during military strikes and during wartime. He said that the nomenclature of the code of ethics can be divided into three categories. “Necessity”, he said, means that force is only employed for accomplishing the mission, and “Distinction” means that every measure is taken so that innocents will not be harmed, and “Proportionality” means that collateral damage is only used in proportion to the threat.

“AMBASSADOR JOHN BOLTON TAKES ON THE UNITED NATIONS” by Fern Sidman

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

John Bolton, former United States Ambassador to the United Nations, had some strong words for the world body on Monday evening, July 18th as he delivered a broad-based foreign policy speech during the Chairman’s Club dinner at the sixth annual Christians United For Israel (CUFI) national summit in Washington, DC.

Speaking from the podium of the Washington Convention Center, Ambassador Bolton addressed the upcoming vote, scheduled for September at the United Nations General Assembly in which the Palestinian Authority will call for nation states to cast their vote for the establishment of an independent state.

“This effort is an attack on Israel’s legitimacy”, said Bolton adding that it comes as no surprise because “for the last two and half years, President Obama has been negotiating on behalf of the Palestinians.” Supporting Israel’s right to live in “peace and security”, Bolton said that the solution to the seemingly intractable Israeli-Palestinian conflict must by resolved by the “parties of conflict” and not by the machinations of the United Nations. He called on Congress to “pass a law taking the wind out of the Palestinian sails; and should get Obama to be an honest broker in Middle East peace negotiations and get his thumb off the pedal of the Palestinians.”

Reminding his audience over of 600 that this is not the first time in modern history that the Palestinians have attempted to declare their own state, he said, “In 1988, they (the Palestinians) did the same thing and then joined specialized agencies of the United Nations to further their agenda.” He also noted that the intended vote reflects a repudiation of US foreign policy and is direct contravention of UN resolutions 242 and 338.”

Calling for the US to employ strong measures against the UN if it does something “profoundly wrong” by de-legitimizing Israel, Bolton said the US should tell the Europeans that if they adopt this resolution, there will be no funding for the UN. Back in 1988, former Secretary of State James Baker threatened any UN agency that funded the PLO, Bolton added. The US must state unequivocally that “we’re not going to give the UN legitimacy or authority in this matter and we’re not going to allow the UN General Assembly to have an effect on Middle East policy,” intoned Bolton.

Turning his attention to the rapidly unfolding political ramifications of the “Arab Spring”, Bolton said that while former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was no “Jeffersonian democrat”, he was loyal to the maintenance of the Camp David accords and to the US and added that he “was thrown under the bus” by President Obama. Reviewing the political path that Egypt has taken since the January 25th revolution, and the trouble it could spell with for Israel, Bolton said, “Even though Mubarak is gone, the military is still in control in Egypt and they have lifted the embargo in Gaza and have strengthened the Hamas/Fatah government. Egypt will still have full diplomatic relations with Iran and now candidates running for the presidency of Egypt have called for the Camp David accords to be ‘revised’.

Bolton also chided the current US administration for “losing our strategic vision in the Middle East” and called for Libyan strongman Muammar Qadaffi to be overthrown. “He (Qadaffi) has a nuclear, chemical and biological weapons program and his commitment to terrorism has made him a great danger to the United States.” Taking note of the fact that monarchies in the Arabian peninsula have expressed concern about securing President Obama’s support in the face of violently pro-Islamist demonstrations that have swept the region , Bolton said, “Iran has attempted to use the turmoil in Bahrain to their advantage and will not stop there.”

Concerning the burgeoning nuclear threat emanating from Iran, Bolton weighed in on this issue by saying, “Diplomacy and economic sanctions are just not working. Pointing to North Korea he said, “The US imposed sanctions against them and they have exploded two nuclear devices in the last 10 years.” Making several oblique references to the fact that overthrowing the Iranian regime would be in the best interests of the United States, Bolton said the unacceptable US attitude vis-a-vis Iran has been, “We don’t want Iran to have nuclear weapons, but we can live with it.” Stating that the long-range agenda of Iranian nuclear proliferation is exclusively for purposes of terrorism and launching an attack on Israel, he said that the US cannot “accept Iran even having a small nuclear arsenal.”

“Even if Iran could be deterred from furthering their nuclear objectives”, said Bolton, “it is inherently an unstable regime that is not sustainable and no one is willing to address that.” Urging his audience to “take back our government and assert leadership”, he concluded by declaring that, “the most powerful force on earth is not nuclear weapons but an aroused American public.”

“GLENN BECK; JOHN HAGEE STIR CROWD AT CUFI SUMMIT” by Fern Sidman

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

Receiving numerous rousing ovations and thunderous applause, FOX television personality Glenn Beck told an audience of over 5000 gathered at the Christians United For Israel (CUFI) national summit in Washington that if the pernicious trends in global anti-Semitism culminate in another genocide “then count me as a Jew, and come for me first”. Mr. Beck delivered these remarks as part of his keynote address at “The Night to Honor Israel” gala banquet at organization’s sixth annual convocation on Tuesday evening, February 19th.

Having just returned from a trip to Israel where he addressed the Knesset Committee on Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs at the invitation of Deputy Knesset Speaker Danny Danon, Mr. Beck opened his speech by announcing his donation of $10,000 to the “CUFI On Campus” student organization that battles anti-Israel propaganda on hundreds of college and university campuses across America. Referencing his emotional trip to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, he stated his of-repeated belief that the inherent rights of the US Constitution and those delineated in the Declaration of Independence were a mandatory requirement for the prevention of evil of this magnitude from occurring. “The founding fathers had the answer 150 years before Hitler showed up,” he said, but reminded his audience that for two millennia, the Jewish people were not accorded those rights in the countries in which they resided.

Until the modern State of Israel was established in 1948, he said the Jews “have had no home base” and added that “this is why the nation of Israel is vital.”. Recalling the painful history of the Jewish nation, he intoned, “”They have been smeared. They have been maligned. But to our shame as human beings most of all, they have been forgotten in times of need.” Speaking directly to the Jewish people he said, “No one can protect your rights better than you. To rely on others is to ensure economic slavery at best, and death camps at worse.”

Spotlighting the existential siege that the Jewish state finds herself under by the looming Iranian nuclear threat and the forces of radical Islam in the Middle East and throughout the world, Mr. Beck concluded his address by issuing stern warnings to the enemies of Israel and the Jewish people that “times have changed” and the Jews would no longer stand alone in any potential confrontation.

“This is still America 2011. We are not the Christians of the Crusades. We are Christians United For Israel,” he declared.

Reiterating Mr. Beck’s sentiments was Pastor John Hagee, founder and chairman of Christians United For Israel who also delivered an impassioned address. “Mr. Ahmadinejad: Do not threaten the people of Israel and the people of America”, he said. Citing those miscreants throughout history who have sought to eradicate the Jewish people, he noted, “Look at Pharoah of Egypt and Haman of Persia in the story of Purim and you will have some idea of G-d’s punishment for you,”

Quoting Winston Churchill who said, “Courage is the first of qualities; courage is everything”, Pastor Hagee exhorted his acolytes to “dare to be yourself in the face of adversity; to have the courage to admit the truth.” Acting on his words Pastor Hagee then declared, “President Obama is not pro-Israel and he has broadcast that around the world. President Obama has told Israel not to build homes in Jerusalem. He has no right or authority to tell the Jewish people what to do.”

Advising the President to vent his rancor at those nations that are adversarial to the United States, he said, “Go tell Iran, China and Russia what to do. Israel is not a vassal state of the United States. It is free to determine their borders and their destiny. They are free to retaliate against anyone who attacks them.”

Speaking of the “toothless sanctions” that have been imposed on Iran, he proffered his belief that “Iran will become nuclear” and if attacked, “the liberal media would blame Israel for starting a war with Iran.”

Taking on those who have attempted to revise the Jewish narrative with statements geared towards separating the Jewish people from their religious and historical connection to the land of Israel, Pastor Hagee said, “We are still one nation under G-d, and it was G-d who gave the land of Israel to Abraham and it belongs to the Jewish people forever. The Jewish people are not occupying this land; they own this land.”
Addressing former White House Correspondent Helen Thomas who achieved dubious notoriety in June of 2010 when she told an interviewer that “Jews should get the hell out of Palestine” and to “go home to Germany, Poland and the United States”, Pastor Hagee said, “Helen, the Jews are not going anywhere. They are home.”

Also addressing the assemblage was Michael Oren, the Israeli ambassador to the United States who spoke of the meritorious deeds of such righteous gentiles as Major-General Orde Charles Wingate, a British Army officer and creator of special Jewish military units in British mandated Palestine in the 1930s and in World War II. Ambassador Oren said that as a devoutly religious Christian, Wingate became an ardent supporter of Zionism, seeing it as his religious duty to help the Jewish community in Palestine form an independent Jewish state.

Also lauding the multifarious accomplishments of the late Washington state senator, Henry “Scoop” Jackson, Oren said, “As a child Senator Jackson was taught to respect Jews in the Christian home he grew up in” and credited him with sponsoring legislation aimed at freeing Jews from the former Soviet Union. In 1974, while in the Senate, Jackson co-sponsored what has come to be known as the Jackson-Vanik amendment with Charles Vanik sponsoring it in the House. The amendment was intended to help refugees, specifically Jews, to emigrate from the former USSR. He recalled that such celebrated Soviet prisoners of conscience such as Natan (Anatoly) Sharansky who currently holds the position of chairman of the Jewish Agency in Israel, praised Jackson as a “defender of Israel; a torch bearer of faith.”
