Addressing thousands at his much heralded “Restoring Courage” rally in Jerusalem on Wednesday evening August 24th, FOX News talk show host Glenn Beck exhorted his audience to immerse themselves in doughtiness and “to stand up for Israel” in the face of the existential siege that the Jewish state finds herself under by the international community.

Speaking from the Southern Wall excavation site in Jerusalem’s old city, Beck, an intrepid supporter of Israel and the Jewish people delivered an ominous portent of geo-political realities. “Today, the world needs courage more than ever. You don’t have to be a prophet to know that things are not going well in the world. The threats are mounting. Darkness is falling”, he intoned.

Speaking of the potentially lethal ramifications of the Arab Spring, he added, “When I saw Tunisia’s and Egypt’s rulers crack and fall and the world called it the Arab Spring, I said: Where could this be going? And behind these revolutions was a familiar force, a force that will place those nations under a new pharaoh. And that force, I said, would come up to the borders of Israel. And so it has. You see evil rear its head in our time. You see the signs again. The swastikas are on display in the street marches. This week they’re holding up signs in Cairo that say: We’re building the gas chambers. They dress their children in suicide belts. They are given the choice, and they choose death.”

Making an oblique reference to the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meeting in September in which a vote will be taken on the creation of an independent Palestinian state, Beck lambasted the world body by saying, “In New York, the so-called leaders of the world talk about abuses of human rights. But what they will do is abuse the very meaning of the phrase “human rights.” Human rights they say. But who will they focus on? Libya? Syria? North Korea? No. They will condemn Israel. Tiny Israel. Democratic Israel. Free Israel. Israel, which values life above all other things.”

Her furthered chided the world body by saying, “When the Fogel family was killed in their sleep the world barely took note. The grand councils of earth condemn Israel. Across the border, Syria slaughters its own citizens. The grand councils are silent.”

Focusing on the vehement acrimony that engulfs Israel by the international community, Beck declared to thunderous applause, “When the world turns its back on Israel and the Jewish people, the world turns its back on the source of all human rights.” Beck, a Mormon, peppered his address with religious references when illustrating Israel’s role in respecting the sanctity of human life since the dawn of time. “Without the Jewish people, humanity would not know that every individual life has dignity, that every life is sacred, that God names every star and knows every soul. That was God’s message to Abraham and Moses. It is the message of the Jewish people to the world, and by their very existence they teach it to us.”

He added, “Nowhere in the Torah or the Christian Scriptures do you see the phrase words “human rights.” But there is a lot in there about responsibilities. Everything we know about human rights and civilization came from this place. Whether you live by 613 commandments or 10 or just one golden rule, they all came from here. This throne of the Lord.”

Heaping accolades on the Jewish nation for their iron will to survive and thrive against incessant horrific adversity, Beck said, “In Israel, there is more courage in one square mile than in all of Europe. In Israel, there is more courage in one soldier than in the combined and cold hearts of every bureaucrat at the United Nations. In Israel, you can find people who will stand against incredible odds… against the entire tide of global opinion, for what is right and good and true. Israel is not a perfect country. No country is perfect. But it tries… and it is courageous.”

Speaking of the litany of vociferous condemnations that have been leveled against him for his stalwart support of Israel, Beck said, “No one wants to be on the point, the person that sticks out. My first death threat came in 2002 after my first visit to Israel and my declaration of support of the Jewish people and state. My latest death threat was today. And so I say: LO IRA. (Hebrew for “I fear not”). Condemn me. Target me. I will stand with Israel. I will stand with the Jewish people. And if they want to round us up again, I will proudly raise my hand and say “Take me first.”

Beck’s rally has generated a rancorous polemical debate in Israel with all sides weighing in. Standing outside the Dung Gate near the site of the rally, several dozen members of “Peace Now”, an arm of Israel’s radical left faction staged a vocal protest against Beck. Holding aloft signs saying, “Glenn Beck: Go Home” and “Peace Takes Courage” they called on the right-wing American broadcaster to leave Israel and take his message elsewhere.

Jerusalemite Danielle Blumenstyk, 25, said that she came to the protest because “we think Glenn Beck is a racist and an extremist. He claims to be a friend of Israel but he is only causing more and more damage to Israel’s image in the world.” She said that Israel “is unfortunately so unpopular in the world right now that the second someone says they like us we’re quick to say he’s our friend. But Beck is not our friend, he’s a lunatic.”

Danny Danon, Deputy Speaker of the Knesset and prominent member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party was one of the first Israeli legislators to embrace Beck, having invited him to address the Knesset Committee on Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs last month. Attending the rally along with other right-wing elected officials and leaders of the settler movement, Danon said, “We have too many enemies around the world, so even when true supports of the State of Israel come to visit – there are those among us who don’t know how to honor and appreciate them. Despite criticism from left wing organizations, we must say that Glenn Beck represents dozens of millions of people who support him and his opinions. We are proud of this relationship and not embarrassed by it. Anyone who supports Israel is such a brave way must be supported.”

Former Jerusalem city councilwoman, Mina Fenton also went on the offensive in attacking the “Restoring Courage” rally. Known for her outspoken criticism of Evangelical Christian aid to Israel, Fenton asserts that Beck and others like him harbor missionary motives. “The exclusivity for the source of holiness of the Temple Mount, the site of the Temple and the city of Jerusalem belongs to the Jews, and was so for about 1,700 years before anyone even heard of the idea of Christianity,” Fenton said, adding that, “Holding a Christian event near the southern wall will help in strengthening the Christian ‘Returning to Zion’ project that any Christian organization that respects itself initiates. They actually say that this area belongs to them.”

Concluding his address with an appeal for action amongst his supporters, Beck said, “You were not born so someone else could rule over you. God did not create you, endow you with rights so you could remain silent while injustice and evil grow. You have a purpose and it is rooted in love, compassion and responsibility. There are many reasons to hear my words, leave here and do nothing. We all have been trained to believe that we are not strong enough, smart enough or powerful enough. Abraham was old, Moses was slow of speech, Ruth was a widow, David was a little boy, Joseph was in prison, and Lazarus was dead. What is your excuse?”

“We are facing a new holocaust, and people of all faiths must demand that the truth be heard”, declared Oscar winning American actor Jon Voight on Monday evening, August 22nd in Jerusalem. Voight, 72, joined FOX news personality Glenn Beck as the featured speaker at the central train station in Jerusalem in an event commemorating the Holocaust. As a lead up to Beck’s “Restoring Courage” rally on August 24th, Monday evening’s event, which was carried on Beck’s new television network, featured a powerful film about Holocaust survivor Rudy Wolf’s visit to his childhood home in Germany. Other speakers at the event noted the significance of holding a Holocaust themed evening at the former Jerusalem train station after world armies did not bomb the tracks to Auschwitz in World War II.

Assuming a flinty posture on the exacerbation of terrorism aimed at Israel Mr. Voight intoned, “The Palestinian radicals have only one prayer on their lips: To remove every Jew from Israel.” He received a standing ovation when he said, “We will not bend to terrorism in any way, shape, or form for the sake of peace.”

“How have we come to a time when blowing up babies and cutting their throats are an acceptable means to a political goal?” Voight queried his audience, referring to the barbaric murders of five members of the Fogel family in the settlement of Itamar in March of this year. “I feel complete contempt for anyone not intelligent enough to see that the media propaganda portraying the Palestinians as victims endangers the state of Israel”, he continued to rousing applause.

“If you stare evil in the eye, it’s a coward,” Beck told his audience of Christians and Jews. “If you confront your biggest fear, it goes away. It’s not enough to remember the Holocaust, because it has happened time and time again. This will be the generation that stops it in its tracks and says ‘never again, we mean it.’”

Rising to prominence on the silver screen in the late 1960s with his memorable performance as Joe Buck, a would-be gigolo from Texas in the hit film Midnight Cowboy in which he co-starred with Dustin Hoffman, Voight became a Hollywood icon during the 1970s and 80s. He received critical acclaim for his portrayals of a businessman mixed up with murder in Deliverance (1972), a paraplegic Vietnam veteran in Coming Home 1(1978), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor, and a penniless ex-boxing champion in The Chamo (1979).

Born in Yonkers, New York, Voight was raised Catholic and attended Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains where he first took an interest in acting, playing the comedic role of Count Pepi Le Loup in the school’s annual musical, “The Song of Norway”. Following his graduation in 1956, he enrolled at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, where he majored in art and graduated with a BA degree in 1960. After graduation, Voight moved to New York City, where he pursued an acting career.

In December of 1971 Voight married actress Marcheline Bertrand and had two children together; a son, James Haven born in 1973, and a daughter, Angelina Jolie born in 1975 who went on to achieve stardom in Hollywood as a respected actress.

Voight has been a consistent supporter of Jewish causes throughout his career and has made annual appearances on the Chabad-Lubavitch telethon that is broadcast from Los Angeles.

“2011: Record Year for U.S. Weather Disasters” by Todd Strandberg

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:04 am by Steve

The year 2011 now holds the record for the most costly weather disasters. We still have over four months to go and this year has already surpassed 2008. Even when you adjust for inflation, the weather-related carnage still exceeds all previous years.

National Weather Service Director Jack Hayes told reporters, “I don’t think it takes a wizard to predict 2011 is likely to go down as one of the more extreme years for weather in history.” The “new reality” is both the frequency and the cost of extreme weather, said Hayes.

The NWS identified nine U.S. disasters that have caused more than $1 billion in damage. Here is the list it came up with:

• Upper Midwest flooding – summer – melting of heavy snow pack in northern Rocky Mountains flooded Missouri and Souris rivers across seven states. $2 billion cost to date.

• Mississippi River flooding – spring/summer – Rains three times normal amount in Ohio Valley flooded Mississippi River and tributaries. $2-4 billion losses; at least 2 deaths.

• Southern Plains/Southwest drought, heat wave and wildfires – spring/summer: Hit Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, southern Kansas, western Arkansas, and Louisiana.$5 billion to date.

• Midwest/Southeast tornadoes – May 22-27 – 15 central and Southern states hit by 180 tornadoes – 177 killed – 160 of those dead in Joplin twister – $4.9 billion cost.

• Southeast/Ohio Valley/Midwest tornadoes – April 25-30 – 305 tornadoes – 327 deaths – $6.6 billion cost.

• Midwest/Southeast tornadoes – April 14-16 – 160 tornadoes – $1.4 billion cost – 38 deaths.

• Southeast/Midwest tornadoes – April 8-11 – 59 tornadoes across nine central and Southern states – $1.5 billion cost.

• Midwest/Southeast tornadoes – April 4-5: Ten Midwest and Southern states hit by 46 tornadoes – $1.6 billion cost. Nine deaths.

• Groundhog Day blizzard – January 29-February 3 – hit central, eastern and northeastern states. – $1.1 billion cost – 36 deaths.

source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2027789/2011-set-worst-year-US-weather-disasters.html

Remarkable about the list is the lack of hurricane damage. In the past thirty years, there has been $726 billion in total weather-related damage. Hurricanes have been responsible for 50 percent of the damage. The tropical season doesn’t even kick into high gear until next month. Since we’ve had such a well-rounded year for weather disasters, it would also seem fitting with our luck to have a Category 5 come roaring ashore somewhere in the U.S.

The massive heat wave in the U.S. has rekindled the debate over global warming. The heat has been historic this summer, but I’m not sure global warning is to blame. The past four winters have all had periods of brutally cold temps. I read a report today that said a new computer climate simulation found that Arctic ice is likely to expand over the next decade.

Director Hayes was asked if “climate change” was to blame for the rising frequency of wild weather. He said it would be difficult to link any one severe season to overall climate change.

One reporter tried to blame all the recent weather carnage on the increase in population. The growth rate for people is too small to account for such a huge spike. The damage for this year is seven times what people saw in the eighties. The population has only grown by 20 percent during this period.

I think all these weather events would make perfect sense if people understood the birth-pangs prophecy that Jesus laid out. In Matthew 24:8, we are told that the last days will be the tail end of an exponential curve of activity. Jesus mentioned a great variety of signs—spiritual, natural, societal, and geopolitical—and then He said that these signs will be like “birth pangs.”

As the birth of a baby approaches, the birth pangs increase two ways: frequency and intensity. Thus, Jesus was saying that the closer we get to the time of His return, the more frequent and intense the signs will become. There will be more earthquakes and more intense ones. Likewise, things like famine, pestilence, and war will increase in frequency and intensity.

In the past, I’ve warned people that greater weather disasters were headed our way. In 2006, I made the following comment right after Hurricane Katrina:

“The unending avalanche of catastrophes has convinced me that they are part of the end-time warning signs called the birth pangs. The Bible predicts they will increase in frequency as we get closer to the tribulation hour. I expect the world media will soon be covering new calamities in the coming months.”

The months turned into years, and the birth pangs kept rolling in with greater frequency. It seems that we’ve reached a point where the kindness of God must be at a limit. If we can have nine calamities in less than eight months and still not get man’s attention, any more warning would be pointless. Only God knows for sure, but I think the judgment stage is very very near.

On Sunday, August 21st, former FOX News talk show host and Conservative commentator Glenn Beck delivered an address laden with palpable emotion at the Roman ampitheater in Caesarea, Israel as part of the first fixture leading up to his “Restoring Courage” rally in Jerusalem on August 24th. Speaking to over 3000 mostly American attendees, Beck exhorted his audience at the monumental venue built in the first century by Herod the Great to “not only love Israel but love the Jewish people as they are.”

Declaring that the entire world is “reentering the age of miracles of God”, he received thunderous applause when he said, “While there may not be a political solution, the good news is the God of Israel ‘aint running for office.” While not directly addressing the geo-political realities that Israel faces or his staunch opposition to the creation of an independent Palestinian state, Beck said, “Let the Jewish people know, no matter what our governments may say, we are not our governments, we stand with you. We bring truth, we bring peace, we bring support, we bring comfort.”

Simultaneously broadcast in over 80 countries throughout the world and close to 1200 viewing parties, Beck’s remarks focused on the religious teachings that inspired him in his heartfelt love for Israel, namely the Books of Esther and Ruth. “When Ruth told her mother-in-law Naomi, ‘wherever you goest I shall go, your people shall be my people and your G-d shall be my G-d’, those words were a driving force for me.”

Joining Beck on stage were Pastor John Hagee, an American evangelical icon, and founder and president of the Christians United For Israel (CUFI), American born Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, Chief Rabbi of Efrat, David Barton, a world renowned historian and Dr. Mike Evans, an award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author who has sold over 23 million books. Providing musical entertainment for the evening was Grammy nominated R&B/soul/gospel singer Vernessa Mitchell, who was joined by a vibrant cadre of Israeli singers and musicians.

“The Jews are still the apple of God’s eye, still the chosen people, still the covenant people”, declared Pastor Hagee as he received a standing ovation as he took the podium. In a powerful statement on the ubiquitous campaign aimed at delegitimizing Israel and its growing isolation in the international community he drew an analogy with the late president John F. Kennedy and his historical “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech, when he announced “Ani Yisraeli” (I am an Israeli ). He then led the rally participants in chants of: “I am an Israeli!”

Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, formerly of the Lincoln Square Synagogue on Manhattan’s upper west side, spoke of Jewish appreciation for the support of the Christian pro-Israel community, and in particular that of Glenn Beck, who, Riskin said, is a “deeply patriotic American, a true friend of Israel.” Lauding the stoic character of the Christian supporters of Israel, Rabbi Riskin said, “We are not alone. We are Jews and not Christians. You Christians, nevertheless, have the courage to love us in our otherness. We are profoundly grateful for your courage to love us and stand with us.”

Sharing a very personal story of faith and clarity on what the courage to love truly means, Dr. Mike Evans recounted a traumatic childhood of anti-Semitic taunts and his ever increasing understanding of what the survival of Israel represents to Western civilization. Imparting historical insights into the words of the Bible, Dr. David Barton shed light on their relevance and gravitas in contemporary society.

Prior to rally in Caesarea, Beck had toured the Shomron region of Israel, providing support to the settler communities and paid a special visit to the settlement of Itamar, the site of the barbaric murder of five members of the Fogel family by Arab terrorists in March of this year.

Said Beck on his radio program broadcast from Israel, “I went to Itamar in Judea and Samaria; our cameras were the first to be allowed into the home. It is empty now and they are ‑‑ they couldn’t get all of the blood off the walls. I will tell you, this was one of the most horrific, bloodiest massacres I could imagine. It was horrifying, horrifying. And yet in that community, profound hope. If you stand in their backyard, you can see the two mountains: The Mountain of Blessing and the Mountain of Curse. It is scriptural. Which do you choose? The mountain of blessing or curse. And this community has both. I can’t believe what people go through here in Israel, and the world stays silent. The media is distorting and lying, lying to you. Lying to you. And it is important that you know it.”

Meanwhile, Arab Knesset members have warned of possible violence on Wednesday as Beck holds his “Restoring Courage” rally at the Southern Wall excavation sites near the Temple Mount and an event expected to garner an audience of over 2000 at the Davidson Center in Jerusalem. According to reports in The Jerusalem Post, Hadash MK Muhammad Barakei said, “There are enough racists in Israel without importing them from the US.. The lessons from Ariel Sharon’s visit to the Temple Mount apparently haven’t been learned. This event isn’t for building coexistence, but to spark fires in a sensitive location ahead of the United Nations vote on a Palestinian state in September. There is a danger that the event will lead to people being harmed, and the police should have prevented it.”

MK Ahmed Tibi (UAL-Ta’al) called Beck “a bizarre, conservative, neo-fascist comedian who is motivated by a hatred of Islam.” He also accused MK Danny Danon (Likud), who is involved in Beck’s event, of “dancing to Beck’s flute-playing and rejoicing to every outrageous word against Arabs and Muslims.”

In an interview with The Jerusalem Post, Beck advised his critics to watch the event before casting judgment. He said that when he held his Restoring Honor event at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, last August, people said he would desecrate the site with what they thought would be a right-wing political rally, but it ended up being nothing of the kind. “Israeli control over Jerusalem is the best thing that has happened in many people’s lives among Arabs I’ve met, even though they won’t say it on camera,” Beck said. “They are protected, safe and able to live without violence. Israel has done an amazing job of adhering to love thy neighbor – and even love thine enemy. It’s hard when people are trying to kill you to protect their rights. Jerusalem is an example of coexistence working. You can’t deny truth,” he added.

“Satan Has a New Way To Get Under People’s Skin” by Todd Strandberg

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:50 am by Steve

The “mark-of-the-Beast” alarm bells were triggered last week by reports of a new electronic patch. I received dozens of emails about a news release from the journal Science. Matt Drudge had one of the boldest headlines: “Mark of the Beast? Electronic tattoo has medical, gaming, spy uses.”

The patch was developed by a team of researchers from the United States, China, and Singapore. It adheres to the skin like a temporary tattoo, and although the device is slightly thinner than a human hair, it can transmit all types of data. It would be extremely valuable in the medical field, replacing sensors that are very costly and cumbersome.

“It’s a technology that blurs the distinction between electronics and biology,” said John Rogers, a professor in materials science and engineering at the University of Illinois. “Our goal was to develop an electronic technology that could integrate with the skin in a way that is mechanically and physiologically invisible to the user.” (http://theweek.com/article/index/218290/band-aid-or-computer)

The patch is almost invisible and does not even need to be glued to the skin. It so thin, the Van der Waals force keeps it in place. If you took high school physics, you would remember this force as being the natural attraction between molecules.

The “epidermal electronic system” has a flexible electrical circuit composed of snake-like conducting channels that can bend and stretch without affecting performance. The circuits have included sensors, light-emitting diodes, transistors, radio frequency capacitors, wireless antennae, and conductive coils.

The device is so compact that it only requires a small amount of energy to fuel itself for operation. It can be powered by miniature solar collectors or by picking up transmitted electromagnetic radiation.

There are many positive uses for a patch of this type. It could monitor patients with sleep apnea and babies who need neonatal care, or it could help skin heal from wounds and burns. It could also be very effective in monitoring brain activity, an area in which current technology has many shortcomings because of its bulkiness.

Students of prophecy are naturally cautious of any new product that applies electronics to the human body. The Bible warns that when the Antichrist comes to power, he will utilize an identifying mark to control the global financial system. Unless you have the mark, you can’t buy or sell anything. Because anyone who receives the “666” mark is automatically damned, anyone on earth during the time of the mark will have to suffer martyrdom or extreme hardship to maintain his or her faith.

“And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name” (Revelation 14:11).

One of the greatest dangers regarding the mark of the Beast is complacency. As we become familiar with technology, we lose sight of its impact on our lives. I remember in the 1990s, there was a big commotion over the radio frequency identification tags developed by the Digital Angel Corporation. Several people toured the country claiming the chips would be used to “mark” everyone.

Anyone who invested in Digital Angel’s stock to profit from their IDs would have lost most of their money. The company’s stock has been in a continuous nosedive. Its share currently trades at 23 cents, down from a reverse split high of over $1,015.

The Digital Angel chip failed to catch on in human use because it required a huge needle to inject it under the skin. the puncture hole was so large, the FDA categorized the process as minor surgery. I could see people getting poked in the right hand to show their loyalty to the Beast, but the option of having the chip injected into the forehead seemed impractical.

Now that the powers that be have a prototype that is thinner than a human hair, it is possible to have an implant that is pain free. The only thing needed now is the right political scenario for the mark system to be put into action. Luckily, we Christians will be gone before the “666 system” is rolled out.

“Through cunning he shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; and he shall exalt himself in his heart, and by peace he shall destroy many. He shall even rise against the Prince of Princes; but he shall be broken without human means” (Daniel 8:23-25).

“And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, and he provides that no one can buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name” (Revelation 13:16-17).

According to a psychiatric evaluation obtained Wednesday by the Associated Press, Levi Aron, the alleged murderer of 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky has an “adjustment disorder and a personality disorder with schizoid features”. This diagnosis was rendered by a a psychiatrist and psychologist at Kings County Hospital, who also said that Aron is confused, apathetic and has a “practically blank” personality.

While giving authorities conflicting accounts of his life and his mental and physical history, he did say that his younger sister died while institutionalized with schizophrenia. Of the 35-year-old Aron, the psychologist wrote, “His mood is neutral, practically blank. The only time he seems to show any emotional response is when he is asked difficult questions about the reason for his incarceration.” The evaluation offers little details on a possible motive and does not delve much into the crime. Aron admitted knowing the charges against him are serious, and acknowledged that people are angry with him. The psychologist added that, “He states he did not wish the boy harm but that he `panicked”.

During the evaluation, Aron, dressed in regulation pajamas and “well-groomed,” gave obfuscated accounts of how many siblings he has and said he suffered a head injury as a child, though it wasn’t clear exactly when. “Mr. Aron is unable (unwilling?) to state categorically whether or not he was in prior psychiatric treatment,” the psychologist also wrote. Aron also was unclear about the voices he says he heard during and after Leiby’s death. He said he doesn’t remember anything stressful happening when he began to hear the voice. “He admitted to us that he began to hear a voice talking to him approximately one year ago, but cannot make out what it says,” according to the psychiatrist.

Currently being held without bail at a medical wing at Riker’s Island in solitary confinement, Aron has pleaded not guilty to the heinous murder and kidnapping of Leiby Kletzky, A”H, who got lost walking home from the Boyaner day camp in Boro Park on July 11. His severed feet were found in Aron’s refrigerator and the rest of his body was discovered in pieces in a suitcase elsewhere in Brooklyn.

Aron told the psychologist the voice does not command him to do anything, but he told doctors after his arrest that the voice commanded him to hurt himself and others, according to the records. The psychiatric evaluation was ordered specifically to determine whether Aron would be fit for trial. The Brooklyn District Attorney’s office had no comment.

Pierre Bazile, Aron’s attorney, said the records obtained by the AP were accurate. “The evaluators agreed with us that Mr. Aron suffers from some psychiatric disorders and right now we are investigating whether or not his disorders are sufficient to meet the not guilty by reason of mental disease or mental defect threshold,” he said.

The records filled in a few blanks about Aron’s life, which was lived mostly alone except for a few impulsive decisions, such as moving to Memphis to get married to a woman he met online and had met in person only twice. They divorced after a few years. Aron was employed as a hardware clerk, and earlier as a supermarket worker and a caterer. Aron spent much of his time online, and made a lot of audio and video recordings of himself doing karaoke. He lived alone in a home owned by his father and step mother, his brother lived in a separate apartment. His mother died about seven years ago. Both the psychiatrist and psychologist described Aron as reserved, apathetic, sad and cooperative.

A pre-trial hearing is set for October 14th.

“Beyond the Point of No Return” by Todd Strandberg

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:51 am by Steve

It is difficult to recall a time when the legislative process in Congress has reached such a level of absurdity. After months of high drama and debate over the debt ceiling, our elected leaders finally produced a bill that would have little impact on the river of deficit spending flowing from Washington .

The nearly $1 trillion in cuts are spread over a decade and are skewed toward the end of that period. We don’t start saving a single penny until after the national debt has already reached $16.7 trillion. All the bill does is slow the growth of government spending from 9 percent to 8 percent per year.

Even if Congress cuts $2.4 trillion out of the budget over the next ten years, we will still be running annual deficits of more than $1 trillion. Before the agreement, our debt was projected to reach $28.6 trillion by 2021. It is now targeting a debt of $26.2 trillion.

There is already a huge hole in the numbers being used by the government. For the current fiscal year, Washington estimates GDP growth at 4 percent. We now know the actual growth for the first half of 2011 is below 1 percent. Unless the GDP sees a dramatic turnaround, the federal budget will be off by $3.1 trillion.

John Mauldin, president of Millennium Wave Advisors, says that Congress must cut $10 trillion over the next decade. Make no mistake, a trillion a year is a huge task and it will cause pain, but doing nothing will only create more pain. “We don’t want to become Greece,” he warns. If we fail to address the problems now, we’ll have to “raise taxes to levels nobody can comprehend,” he argues.

I have zero faith in the ability of the new twelve-member debt reduction panel to have an impact on the deficit. We’ve had several of these types of panels in the past, and Congress has always ignored their recommendations. If our politicians are too cowardly to make the most minor decisions on entitlements and taxes, it’s doubtful the guidance from a “supercomittee” would be enough to spur them to action.

The key driving force behind our growing debt is our aging population. Over the next few years, millions of baby boomers will switch from “taxpayer” to “entitlement beneficiary.” In 2010, there were 3.7 workers per retiree. In 2020, there will be 2.9, and in 2030, only 2.4. Just to keep things equal, the average worker will have to endure a 35 percent rise in taxes.

This weekend, Standard & Poor’s downgraded our credit rating from AAA to AA+. I think all the ratings services are ten years too late. The downgrade we need to worry about is one that might come from the nations that hold our debt. Both China and Russia have had sharp words about America ‘s fiscal policy. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin recently said that the United States was a “parasite” on the world economy.

The road to ruination has many signposts, and we just passed one that has marked the doom of many economies. When the president signed into law the new bill, our debt shot up by $238 billion. The new borrowing caused our debt to instantly reach 100 percent of GDP. Our total public debt now stands at $14.6 trillion.

History shows that every nation with a 100 percent GDP debt load will eventually suffer a financial collapse. When a nation amasses this amount of debt, the power of compounding interest creates a gravity that is nearly impossible to escape.

The debt load is only going to get worse. If we make it to 2021, our debt to GDP will be over 180 percent. Since Greece needed its first bailout at 120 percent, there is no way we will be able continue down that path. America is the largest debtor nation in history, and there is no other big enough to bail us out. In some of the recent debt auctions, the Federal Reserve has been buying over 70-80 percent of out Treasury and bond notes. We are obviously at the point where we need to print money to fund our government expenses.

An economic implosion of the current financial system is almost required by Bible prophecy. During the Tribulation hour, the center of financial power will be in Europe and the Middle East. America has no leading role in the end-times scenario.

Knowledge of the precarious state of the world should help keep us focused on the eternal realm. True riches are not based on gold, bonds, and fiat currency. All who trust in Jesus Christ have a wealth that cannot be measured or appraised in any earthly market.

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).

According to his defense attorneys, Levi Aron, the defendant charged with the kidnapping, murder and dismemberment of 8-year old Leiby Kletzky in Brooklyn on July 12th, is competent to stand trial. On Thursday morning, August 4th, a plea of not guilty was entered for Aron at an arraignment hearing in Brooklyn. Standing outside the courthouse, Aron’s attorney, 30-year old Jennifer McCann said the finding was determined subsequent to a psychiatric evaluation that took place at New York’s Bellevue Hospital.

Aron was placed on a suicide watch since his arrest on July 13th and attorneys have been launching an insanity defense; claiming that Aron manifests psychotic symptoms such as hearing voices and experiencing hallucinations. McCann said that the finding does not preclude them from going ahead with this line of defense.

Leiby Kletzky got lost on his walk home from the Boyaner day camp in Boro Park on July 11th and asked Aron, whom he met on the street, for help, prosecutors said. It was the first time the little boy was allowed to walk alone, and he was supposed to travel about seven blocks to meet his mother but missed a turn. About 33 hours later, detectives found Leiby’s severed feet, wrapped in plastic, in Aron’s freezer. A cutting board and three bloody carving knives were found in the refrigerator. The rest of the boy’s body was discovered in bags inside a red suitcase in a trash bin. His legs had been cut from his torso.

According to prosecutors, Aron, 35, a hardware supply stock clerk, said that he panicked upon seeing fliers about the boy’s disappearance plastered all over Boro Park and his own Kensington neighborhood, and confessed to suffocating Leiby with a bath towel, but they said they were continuing to work on verifying his horrific and bizarre explanation for the boy’s death. It remains unclear why Aron took the child in the first place. The medical examiner’s office said the boy was given a cocktail of psychotropic drugs and then smothered.

In a statement, Charles J. Hynes, the Brooklyn district attorney, said, “Now that Mr. Aron has been found fit to proceed we will move forward expeditiously to bring his case to trial. I want to reaffirm that this case will go to trial and that there are absolutely no circumstances which would lead me to accept a plea bargain.” Mr. Aron’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 14, at which point Aron’s lawyers indicated that they will request a change of venue from Brooklyn. “He may not be able to get a fair trial in Brooklyn because the community’s rancor has been riled, it has been so stirred up against the defendant,” said Pierre Bazile, a member of Aron’s defense team.

According to a report filed by the New York Times, Ms. McCann drew gasps from the crowd when she told reporters that this case “was no different than the D.W.I.’s and the traffic tickets and the other murder cases,” she said. “They are defendants, they have rights and we are here to defend them.” Several members of the Hasidic observers questioned her on that point.

“Is it more emotional, more difficult because of the evidence?” she queried.. “Absolutely. This case isn’t easy for us to handle, either, but his rights are the same. When I defend those rights, I defend yours, too.” At the end of the news conference, one young Orthodox woman approached Ms. McCann. “Jennifer, do you have kids?” the woman asked. Ms. McCann said she did not want to comment.

Israel ‘Ready to Negotiate Borders with Palestinians’

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:40 am by Steve

We’ll see how this goes…

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, has bowed to US pressure by agreeing for the first time that a Palestinian state should roughly follow the contours of the 1967 ceasefire lines separating the West Bank from Israel.

The offer, which emerged tonight appeared to represent a major climb-down by Mr Netanyahu, who has consistently refused to discuss specific borders of a future state.

A government official in Jerusalem told The Daily Telegraph the offer was dependent on the Palestinians dropping their campaign for statehood at the United Nations next month and accepting Israel as a Jewish state.

The offer appears to cross Palestinian red lines, and it seemed likely to be rejected — although the onus is now likely to be placed on the Palestinians to present a counter offer.

Mr Netanyahu reacted angrily when the 1967 proposal was made by Barack Obama in May but was now said to be offering to trade Israeli territory on its side of the line for West Bank land where its main settlements were located.

“We are willing in a framework of restarting the peace talks to accept a proposal that would contain elements that would be difficult for Israel and we would find very difficult to endorse,” said an official, answering a question about the Obama proposal.

“Norway’s Shocking Complacency” by Todd Strandberg

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:03 am by Steve

Norway is struggling to come to terms with its worst peacetime massacre in modern times. Anders Behring Breivik killed 77 people and injured dozens more. This was Europe’s worst terrorist attack since the 2004 Madrid train bombings left 191 dead.

Breivik first triggered a bomb next to a building connected to the Labor Party government. He then went to a youth camp, also run by the party, on Utoeya Island, where he spent 90 minutes methodically gunning down campers.

When I saw the headlines about the massacre, my first thought was that this was yet again the work of an Islamic extremist. You would have to go back 16 years to the Oklahoma City bombing to find a similar attack carried out by a non-Muslim. Some of the first news stories pointed out this fact. Here was solid proof that the liberal media had known all these years that Muslims were the main perpetrators of terrorism and chose to ignore it.

Once the press figured out that the shooter was a militant white guy, it didn’t take long for them to start labeling him as a “Christian terrorist,” “Christian fundamentalist,” or “Christian extremist.” Outlets like the New York Times made this snap decision when they found that Breivik had categorized himself as a believer on a social network site.

In manifesto posted online, he describes himself as only being part of a Christian culture. Breivik wrote on page 1307:

“If you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and God then you are a religious Christian. Myself and many more like me do not necessarily have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and God. We do however believe in Christianity as a cultural, social, identity and moral platform. This makes us Christian.”

A large portion of the people at the camp were of Middle East descent. Breivik feared that Europe was being overrun by the Muslim faith, and he decided to strike out at what he saw as the invaders.

The most shocking part of this story is the lack of justice in Norway. Breivik is now facing murder charges that only have a maximum sentence of 21 years. Yes, after killing dozens of innocent people, this guy could be back on the streets by the time he’s 53 years old. There was some talk of charging him with crimes against humanity, which would carry a 30-year sentence.

Breivik won’t have to worry about spending his 21 years pounding rocks in some penal colony. Norway has some of the world’s most progressive prisons, where inmates enjoy cells equipped with flat-screen televisions, mini fridges, and designer-style furniture.

One of the reasons it took an hour and a half for the Norwegian police to reach the island is that they didn’t have any guns. By law, they must have authorization from their chief to gain access to a firearm. The police looked all the more like Barney Fifes when their boat broke down and they needed help from a backup unit to get to the island.

This isn’t the first time that Norway has been unprepared to deal with criminals. In 1994, robbers stole artwork by its best-known painter, Edvard Munch. The thieves left their ladder propped up against an unlocked National Gallery window, and after grabbing Munch’s “The Scream,” they had enough time to pen a mocking note: “Thanks for the poor security.”

I can already tell what will be the legacy of the Norway attack. Under the banner of multiculturalism, there will be calls for tolerance of people of the Muslim faith. You can bet the slate will now be officially wiped clean of all the past crimes committed in the name of Allah. The next time one of his followers kills a group of people, you can be sure that the press will freshly remind us of Mr. Breivik’s evil deeds.

The greatest mistake in this whole affair is Norway’s complacency about man’s evil nature. Because we live in a sinful world, you can never let your guard down. Security officer Trond Berntsen was probably the first person to be killed at the summer camp. He was unarmed, and I’m certain he wished he had a gun when he found himself staring down the barrel of riffle.

We face an enemy whose main ambition is to “steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10). Anyone who thinks he can live in crimeless utopia will eventually become the devil’s lunch.

1 Peter 5:8: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

Tomb of St. Philip the Apostle Discovered in Turkey

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:23 am by Steve

Once again, archeology proves the Bible. The finds keep coming and coming.

HIERAPOLIS, Turkey – A tomb believed to be that of St. Philip the Apostle was unearthed during excavations in the ancient Turkish city of Hierapolis.

Italian professor Francesco D’Andria said archeologists found the tomb of the biblical figure — one of the 12 original disciples of Jesus — while working on the ruins of a newly-unearthed church, Turkish news agency Anadolu reported Wednesday.

“We have been looking for Saint Philip’s tomb for years,” d’Andria told the agency. “We finally found it in the ruins of a church which we excavated a month ago.”

The structure of the tomb and the writings on the wall proved it belonged to St. Philip, he added.

The professor said the archaeologists worked for years to find the tomb and he expected it to become an important Christian pilgrimage destination.

St. Philip, recognized as one of Christianity’s martyrs, is thought to have died in Hierapolis, in the southwest province of Denizli, in around 80AD. It is believed he was crucified upside down or beheaded.

Hierapolis, whose name means “sacred city,” is an ancient city famous for its hot springs and a spa since the 2nd century.

The Turkish news agency notes a wealth of current archaeology projects underway in the country, which has seen a potpourri of cultures over the centuries: Assyrians, Phrygians, Persians, Romans, Byzantinians, Ottomans and more.

Washington Strikes Deal on Debt Ceiling

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:18 am by Steve

The public pretty well knew this would happen, in time to prevent a “crisis”. I haven’t seen the details yet, but I’m sure it doesn’t cut deep enough. Maybe it’s a start at least.

WASHINGTON — Ending a perilous stalemate, President Barack Obama and congressional leaders announced a historic agreement Sunday night on emergency legislation to avert the nation’s first-ever financial default.

The dramatic resolution lifted a cloud that had threatened the still-fragile economic recovery at home — and it instantly powered a rise in financial markets overseas.

The agreement would slice at least $2.2 trillion from federal spending over a decade, a steep price for many Democrats, too little for many Republicans.

The Treasury’s authority to borrow would be extended beyond the 2012 elections, a key objective for Obama, though the president had to give up his insistence on raising taxes on wealthy Americans to reduce deficits.

The deal, with scant time remaining before Tuesday’s debt-limit deadline for paying government bills, “will allow us to avoid default and end the crisis that Washington imposed on the rest of America,” the president said in an announcement at the White House.

Default “would have had a devastating effect on our economy,” he said.
