Sharia [Islamic Law] – ‘The Root of the Problem’

Robert Spenser, director of Jihad Watch, speaks out on the root cause of honor killings.

The case in point is the “honor killing” of 16-year-old Aqsa Parvez, a Canadian Muslim girl. According to The Globe and Mail, the girl’s father, 60-year-old Muhammad Parvez and her 29-year-old brother Waqas Parvez recently pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

The paper went on to say the teenage girl fought her parents for the right to wear Western clothing and refused to wear the “hijab” (Islamic head covering) they wanted her to wear. The girl wanted to apply for a part-time job against her father’s wishes and she ran away from home twice. Her father vowed he would kill her if she ever ran away again. He followed through on his threat, with the help of his son.

How on earth this is second degree murder, when it most certainly appears to be premeditated, first degree murder, is beyond me. Must have been a plea agreement.

“It’s a good thing that Aqsa Parvez’s father was convicted and will serve, along with her brother, a life sentence,” [Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch] remarks. “But it’s not enough because it is something that’s going to continue in Muslim communities in the United States and Canada until we confront the root of the problem.”

And the root of the problem, he says, is Islamic sharia law, which condones such honor killings. “This is something that the American press has gravely omitted in its coverage of such events in the United States and in Canada and elsewhere in the West,” says the Jihad Watch director. “But the unpleasant reality is that many Muslim countries — notably Syria and Jordan — actually have it on their books.”

Spencer refutes the claims by the Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations that Aqsa’s murder was nothing more than an act of domestic violence that could have happened in any religion.
