Controversial CA Law Skirts Parents

Nanny state, California, continues to cut parents out of parental decisions, somehow feeling they can raise your children better than you can.

Last week, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law S.B. 543 — a bill which will allow students to be taken off-campus for mental health treatment without parental consent. Penny Harrington, legislative liaison for Concerned Women for America of California, says the bill will undermine the role and authority of parents over their children who are minors.

“We believe that the parents need to be involved [in that decision],” says Harrington. “Often children are very confused at this time of life for any number of reasons, and that’s why the parents — who have their [children’s] best interests at heart — need to be involved in their mental health, their physical health, and all the aspects of their children’s lives and education.”

According to Harrington, the bill — which has been pushed by many lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender (LGBT) groups — could promote alternate lifestyles as part of mental health treatment. The Christian activist believes those groups are pushing a radical agenda.
