Massive Tax Day Tea Party, CNN: Fools Again and Fox News Channel “a Little Too Overzealous”
Message to the Federal Government – Don’t Tread on Me (Click Here to Learn More)
Michelle Malkin has more coverage on the Tea Parties. Also a CNN reporter calls the protests “not fit for family viewing” because of an “offensive” anti-Obama sign that compares Obama to a fascist, but showing CNN’s duplicitous reporting, Newsbusters catches the same reporter at an anti-Bush rally in New Orleans in which she refers to a huge Bush puppet with horns and a Hitler mustache as a “lookalike”. And at America’s Right, Jeff Schreiber says “I do think that Fox News Channel’s coverage was a little too overzealous at times”, but follows up with my sentiments exactly, “I’m fine with Fox News being a little overzealous in tea party coverage, as it nearly compensated for the complete blackout from the rest of the mainstream press.”
“Massive: Tax Day Tea Party USA” By Michelle Malkin
I just have one word: Wow. More than 800 tea parties across the country. Here’s your first photo/vid round-up from the events across the country, large and small, every corner of this great nation (hit your refresh button often…I’ll keep updating…11:20pm…just added tons more crowd pix and vid…trying to keep ‘em all in one post to give you the full breadth and scope of the protests — not just the size, but the reach, a true sense of which is missing from the MSM coverage. More coming…):
“CNN Beclowns Itself” By Michelle Malkin
So, the Tea Party protests are “not fit for family viewing” according to one very unhappy CNN reporter, Susan Roesgen, who also fumes over what she calls an “offensive” anti-Obama sign that compares Obama to a fascist. (And yes, I told you this was going to happen.)
But guess what? Newsbusters caught the same indignantly indignant Susan Roesgen covering an anti-Bush rally in New Orleans in which she blithely refers to a huge Bush puppet with horns and a Hitler mustache as a “lookalike.”
“President Bush “Look-Alike” a Cross Between Satan and Hitler?” from NewsBusters
Does President Bush resemble Adolf Hitler and Satan? That seemed to be the implication during the 9am half hour of CNN’s American Morning. A protester wearing a George W. Bush mask, complete with a colored in Hitler-esque mustache and red horns attached to the forehead was deemed a Bush “look-alike” by reporter Susan Roesgen. In her report on how the bureaucracy at FEMA is delaying federal funds for rebuilding New Orleans, Roesgen highlighted a group of female Catholic school students demonstrating for money to repair the city’s levees. The students, as Roesgen noted, “hoped the President would stop by” the protest. It was then that the demonstrator wearing the Bush mask was highlighted on camera, while Roesgen narrated, “But while a look-alike showed up with a wad of cash, Mr. Bush did not.” The “wad of cash” in the demonstrator’s hand was actually several phony dollar bills mocking the Bush administration.
Susan Roesgen: “City officials aren’t the only ones wondering when federal money will materialize. Catholic school girls marched on Jackson Square. They and their teachers say more money is needed to fix the levees, and they hoped the President would stop by after his meeting with business leaders. But while a look-alike showed up with a wad of cash, Mr. Bush did not.”
“Unbelievable” by Jeff Schreiber at America’s Right
You know, when my daughter is old enough to be snide with me, I think the proper response would be something along the lines of “watch your tone, young lady.”
That seems appropriate here.
I could go on for hours about how the reaction to the tea party protests served as a bellwether for bias in the mainstream press, but it’s nearing 3:00 a.m. and I’ve still got some more studying to do before hitting the pillow. So, fill in the blanks yourselves here, folks. It certainly doesn’t take a master of perception to see what’s going on — the overt bias here sticks out like Rosie O’Donnell’s thonged posterior in a Victoria’s Secret catalog.
Incidentally, I do think that Fox News Channel’s coverage was a little too overzealous at times. In fact, since the election, the network has indeed made a big jump to the right (though it’s still closer to the center than either MSNBC or CNN). Honestly, with regard to the network’s rightward jump or its blanket coverage of the tea party protests, I don’t have a problem with it at all. Like the folks over at Ace of Spades said today, I’m fine with Fox News being a little overzealous in tea party coverage, as it nearly compensated for the complete blackout from the rest of the mainstream press.
That’s “the other side” of the story he gives you for balance, in a “to be fair” type one paragraph diversion. The main side he pushes is that FoxNews is too much the cheerleader for tea parties — arguably true, yes, but given that FoxNews’ mission is to be a tonic and corrective to the lapses and biases of the MSM, ought we not dwell on the MSM black-out of the movement rather than FoxNews’ “overcaffeinated” reportage?
I know for a fact that when 50 or so professional leftist protesters congregate to protest, say, the Asian Dawn (“I read about them in Time Magazine”), the MSM covers the story, often prominently. CNN’s top headlines never fail to include some small potatoes lefty protest. And yet when millions of amateur protesters get together, the MSM deems it unworthy of mention.
steve_in_hb made that point to me yesterday: the left protests on a near-daily basis, because they’re students or permanent casualties of the acid-fueled Summer of Love. As a general matter, they are underemployed; they don’t usually have to get away from the office to protest. Furthermore, it’s largely the same people week-in, week-out protesting; as such, these are largely social gatherings, street parties with placards.
By the way, the Hans Gruber quote . . . phenomenal.
