Israel on high alert for direct Syrian attack

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Damascus figures into end times very closely. This could be an indicator of things to come.

For the first time in years, Israel has received intelligence regarding a possible Syrian attack launched from Syrian soil, the Galil Report has learned.
Usually when Damascus wants to instigate conflict in the Israeli-Palestinian arena, it uses surrogates, such as Syria- and Iran-backed Hezbollah along Israel’s northern border or the various Palestinian terror groups to which it funnels aid and directions through Hezbollah agents.
Israel also has intelligence indicating Damascus has activated Hezbollah and has ordered the Palestinian terror groups it aids to commit a major attack within the next seven days.

La. UMC Delegates Deny Petition to Renounce Racism, Sexual Sin

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

This is a fairly common issue within the United Methodist Church. They refuse to stand up for what the Bible teaches over the world view stance on issues.
No matter how people want to spin it, homosexuality is still a sin according to the Bible. The UMC (and all other Christian denominations) need to teach what the Bible says. We are to love all people, we are to accept them into our fellowships, but we are not to accept or endorse any kind of sin. This includes homosexuality.

(AgapePress) – Louisiana United Methodists have rejected a proposal that would have required members of the church to renounce racism, adultery, and both heterosexual and homosexual sex outside marriage.
The petition submitted by New Orleans pastor Dr. Woody Hingle would have affirmed that “local church membership in the United Methodist Church is open to all persons and requires repentance of sin, which includes racism, heterosexual sexual relations outside the marriage bond, and the practice of homosexuality.” However, the measure was overwhelmingly rejected by delegates from the Louisiana UMC Annual Conference.
Hingle believes the petition failed because United Methodist delegates were uneasy about declaring that homosexuality is “incompatible with Christian teaching.” But if they balked at that, he wonders what other biblical standards will be called into question.
“What other sins then don’t have to be repented of for membership?” the pastor asks. “You know, if someone’s in an adulterous relationship [or] unrepentant about having a lifestyle of lying or thievery or whatever — where are you going to draw that line?”
Repentance and inclusiveness are two major components of disciple-making, Hingle contends. “And so, the heart of the petition really is, how do we define what it means to make disciples of Jesus Christ?” he says.
But while it is essential to look to scripture to reconcile these components, the United Methodist minister adds, the Louisiana conference delegates demonstrated the same low view of God’s Word modeled by leaders in the Episcopal Church and the Presbyterian Church USA.
“We have this statement in the Book of Discipline from General Conference, that the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching,” Hingle points out. But to the delegates at the Louisiana UMC gathering, he notes, “it is as though those authorities didn’t matter.”
Apparently, what mattered to the delegates instead, the New Orleans pastor asserts, was their own experience and reasoning. It is the idea that “those authorities trump scripture and what we have in our Discipline that concerns me,” he says.
Hingle feels the rejection of his petition by the Louisiana Annual Conference of the UMC is a reflection of the denomination’s current state of chaos. He says he was prompted to submit the petition after the top court of the UMC reinstated a pastor who was originally suspended for denying church membership to an unrepentant homosexual.

Hollywood Stars Fasting with Sheehan

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

I wonder if a few Hollywood stars and Cindy Sheehan can cause the immediate end to the war on terror by shutting their mouths. Uh, I mean, not eating. Susan Sarandon, Danny Glover and Sean Penn along with other anit-war protesters have agreed to fast in protest to the war. Sheehan has pledged to fast all summer, while the Hollywood group has only promised 24 hours without food. Maybe I am naive, but do they really think the world is going to stop because a few actors stop eating for a day?

Star Hollywood actor-activists including Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon and anti-war campaigners led by bereaved mother Cindy Sheehan plan to launch a hunger strike, demanding the immediate return of US troops from Iraq.

As Americans get set to fire up barbeques in patriotic celebration of US Independence Day on July 4, anti-war protestors planned to savour a last meal outside the White House, before embarking on a ‘Troops Home Fast’ at midnight.

“We’ve marched, held vigils, lobbied Congress, camped out at Bush’s ranch, we’ve even gone to jail, now it’s time to do more,” said Sheehan, who emerged as an anti-war icon after losing her 24-year-old son Casey in Iraq.

The hunger strike was the latest bid by the US anti-war movement to grab hold of American public opinion, after numerous marches, vigils and political campaigns.

Despite polls which show the Iraq war is unpopular and many Americans are skeptical of President George W. Bush’s wartime leadership, peace protests have not hit the opinion-swaying critical mass seen during Vietnam War.

“We have been continually sheltered from the actual cost of war from the beginning,” said Meredith Dearborn, of human rights group Global Exchange, explaining how anti-Iraq war protests have stuttered.

While 2,526 US soldiers have died since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, according to an AFP tally based on Pentagon figures, the impact of the deaths has rarely dominated headlines.

Religious Leaders Protest Gay Pride in Jerusalem

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Even with all the fighting that is going on in the area, religious leaders around the Holy City of Jerusalem are still concerned with the gay pride event that is scheduled to take place there next month. This gay pride day is nothing more than an assault on Christianity and Judaism. Why else pick the Holiest City to have the “Parade of Abomination”? This is an “in-your-face” move by the gay community. The people of Israel DO NOT want this event to occur. The organizers of the event know that they are unwanted in Jerusalem, but they do not care. I pray that for some reason this event will be cancelled.

Even as the ties between Palestinian and Israeli politicians strained against the current crises in Gaza, religious officials from the Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities united Tuesday to oppose a gay pride parade in Jerusalem.

More than 50 prominent religious figures visited the Knesset’s Interior Committee to urge MKs to stop the World Pride event, scheduled to take place in Jerusalem next month. Several right-wing religious MKs brought the coalition to the Knesset, asserting that “never before has the Holy Land seen such a union of religious leaders.”

Representations of the gay-rights groups, including the Jerusalem Open House and the Coalition for Gay, Bisexual, Lesbian, and Transgender Rights called the coalition “dangerous” and “ugly.”

“We will have our event, and our rights as human beings will not be trampled,” said Sol Lev, a gay rights activist promoting the event.

“Their speech, what these people are saying, is a hate crime.”
