“What it means to live by Muhammad’s words and deeds” by Bruce Thornton

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Ambrose Bierce once quipped that war was God’s way of teaching Americans geography. He could have said “teaching us history,” for the enemy is emboldened by our ignorance not just of where he lives but of how he lives, his beliefs and values, and to understand these traditions we must understand their history. Unfortunately, in the current war against Islamic jihad we persist in ignoring the documented history of Islam and its beliefs, accepting instead the spin and distortions of various propagandists, apologists, and Western useful idiots.

This imperative to know the enemy’s beliefs is particularly important for understanding the jihadists, for Islam is a fiercely traditional faith, one brooking no deviation from the revelation granted to Muhammad and codified in the Koran, Hadith, and the sira or biography of the Prophet. As Robert Spencer shows in his invaluable resource The Truth about Muhammad, in these sources Muhammad is presented as “an excellent model of conduct,” as the Koran puts it, his words and deeds forming the pattern for all pious Muslims to follow. “Muslims,” according to Muqtedar Khan of the Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy, “as a part of religious observance, not only obey, but also seek to emulate and imitate their Prophet in every aspect of life.” The facts of Muhammad’s life, then, are paramount for understanding the beliefs that warrant and validate jihadist terror.

Presenting those facts clearly and fairly is precisely what Spencer accomplishes in his new book. Spencer has been for years a bastion of plain-speaking truth. Through books like Islam Unveiled, Onward Muslim Soldiers: How Jihad Still Threatens America and the West, and The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (And the Crusades), and as director of Jihad Watch, Spencer has courageously presented the simple facts of Islamic history and thought that too many Americans, including some in the current administration, ignore or distort. Spencer’s new book continues this important service of arming us with the facts we need in order to understand an enemy who wants nothing from us other than our conversion, death, or subjection.

As Spencer concludes, “The Qur’an . . . commands much more than defensive warfare: Muslims must fight until ‘the religion is God’s’ — that is, until Allah alone is worshipped. Later Islamic law, based on statements of Muhammad, would offer non-Muslims three options: conversion to Islam, subjugation as inferiors under Islamic law, or warfare.” So much for the protestations of tolerance and co-existence constantly peddled by jihad’s Western publicists.

Given all this evidence, as Spencer writes, “It is nothing short of staggering that the myth of Islamic tolerance could have gained such currency in the teeth of Muhammad’s open contempt and hatred for Jews and Christians, incitements of violence against them, and calls that they be converted or subjugated.” And this historical evidence is ratified by contemporary events that show modern Muslims following to the letter the example of Muhammad, from continuing persecution of Jews and Christians in Muslim lands, to the riots and calls for violence that attended (and validated) the Pope’s quotation of a Byzantine emperor’s observation that violence in the service of religion is Islam’s sole innovation.

Spencer concludes with some common-sense suggestions, most importantly demanding that so-called “moderates” condemn jihad and teach against religious intolerance in their schools and mosques. Unfortunately, this is unlikely to happen, given the power of Muhammad’s example of enmity against unbelievers, and given the arrogant intolerance and unwillingness to compromise that typify too many Muslims. The anxiety about appearing “racist” and the sentimental idealization of the “other” dominating American society make it even more unlikely that any politician will challenge Muslims about the facts of Mohammad’s words and deeds that jihadists today use to justify their actions. Unless we heed people like Robert Spencer, it seems that only another graphic example of jihadist violence within our borders has a chance of teaching us the history of the enemy.

Leading UK Imam: It’s OK To Kill Gays

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs is reporting that an Imam in the UK is preaching that it is OK to kill gays.

The leading imam in Manchester confirms that he thinks the execution of sexually active gay men is justified, the rights group Outrage reported.

Arshad Misbahi of the Manchester Central Mosque confirmed his views in a conversation to John Casson, a local psychotherapist.

Casson said: “I asked him if the execution of gay Muslims in Iran and Iraq was an acceptable punishment in Sharia law, or the result of culture, not religion.

”He told me that in a true Islamic state, such punishments were part of Islam: If the person had had a trial, at which four witnesses testified that they had seen the actual homosexual acts.“

”I asked him what would be the British Muslim view? He repeated that in an Islamic state these punishments were justified. They might result in the deaths of thousands but if this deterred millions from having sex, and spreading disease, then it was worthwhile to protect the wider community.“

”I checked again that this was not a matter of tradition, culture or local prejudice. ‘No,’ he said, ‘It is part of the central tenets of Islam: that sex outside marriage is forbidden; this is stated in the Koran and the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had stated that these punishments were due to such behaviours.’”

“Squelching Support of Biblical Marriage and Religious Freedom” by Michael G. Mickey

Nothing has changed concerning Satan since his fall, as detailed in Isaiah 14:12-14:

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

From the time of his fall until now, Satan’s singular goal has been to be like the Most High, a goal he will never achieve but will never relent in trying to reach. One of Satan’s tactics is to put his unique spin on every aspect of what God has ordained in an effort to steal it for himself. As this is true, is it any wonder that Satan is in favor of same-sex marriage, for example? Of course not!

Genesis 2:23-24: And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

As we just saw, God defined marriage from the very dawn of humanity, in the Garden of Eden no less! If God had wanted marriage to be anything other than what it presently is, albeit under attack and losing ground, he could’ve made Adam another man to be his companion, but He didn’t.

God made a woman to be man’s life companion and equipped her sexually to bear children, both male and female, that God’s institution of marriage continue from that point forward as the foundation of the family. It is for these reasons Satan, by his very nature, has been working to undermine marriage from then until now! What better way for Satan to do this than to twist marriage and the traditional composition of the family as he is today, in defiance of the Most High?

As disturbing as witnessing God’s institution of marriage being torn asunder by those who seek to create a new form of marriage is to watch, Satan has outlined an ingenious plan to go along with it – a plan to end religious freedom, particularly religious freedom of the biblical variety.

Do a Google or Yahoo search on the homosexual agenda’s efforts to stifle religious expression by making it “hate speech” to even suggest that the homosexual lifestyle is in opposition to the Word of God and you’ll find a lot of interesting reading to be sure!

Sure, you’ll get some propaganda from the homosexual and liberal community mixed in with your search results, but the discerning Christian will find plenty of ammunition to realize that Satan’s goal of making same-sex marriage the law of the land is only an opening salvo in what is rapidly evolving into a fierce fight between those under Satan’s influence, whether they believe that to be the case or not, and those who stand in alliance with God – a fight that will ultimately be decided, in this wicked world at least, by activist judges like those who continue to twist the US Constitution in whichever direction necessary to lead our nation further and further from God’s will.

The fight is on!

As we saw in the recent case of Luis Padilla, a Cargill Foods employee fired for merely asking that people support traditional marriage via a sign in the back window of his personal vehicle, people are already being harassed and even fired for expressing an opinion that isn’t pro-homosexual, even before same-sex marriage becomes widely accepted. This incident didn’t take place in secular Europe, communist China or Iran either but in Harrisonburg, Virginia! Right in the land of the free!

The original bone of contention between Padilla and his employer was, as touched on briefly earlier, a message displayed on Padilla’s personal vehicle: Please, vote for marriage on Nov. 7. Cargill Foods believed his truck, via the words on its back window, “contained a message that other employees could have “reasonably construed as a show of hostility and intolerance toward homosexuals.”

If that doesn’t have Satan’s signature all over it, I don’t know what does! “Please vote for marriage on November 7” = a show of hostility and intolerance toward homosexuals? BAH! What a bunch of baloney!

Padilla, it should be noted, has since gotten his job back as noted in a Cybercast News Service article, but there’s probably far more to the story of how he got his job back than Cargill Foods realizing his firing was “all a big misunderstanding.” Nonetheless, we see where this trend is headed – directly toward the suppression of freedom of speech and religion, particularly freedom of speech and religion that is supportive of uniquely Christian values, as this is what the powers of darkness are orchestrating in the bigger picture.

A glimpse of things to come?

The secular European Union, the revived Roman empire of Bible prophecy which will someday be led by the Antichrist himself, tends to be a looking glass into where American society is heading, in my opinion. As such, my eye was caught by an American Family Association article that indicates an American think-tank is concerned by where the EU is headed in terms of media regulation. The following are excerpts of interest from the article in question (emphasis added mine):

*The European Union is considering regulations that would impose similar restrictions on Internet sites that include audiovisual content to those currently imposed on broadcasters in the EU.

*Ross contends the initiative would present a danger when applied — that is, who decides what content is reasonable and what is not. “We have a First Amendment in this country, and I think we want to continue to adhere to that,” he says.

*Ross believes U.S.-based ministries and advocacy groups that express their opposition to abortion or homosexuality, for example, could find themselves at odds with European regulations. “It certainly could affect any group that has a position that somebody else might take offense at,” the Foundation spokesman says.

What kind of evil is going to fester in a world where one can be fined, censored or imprisoned for “offending” someone? And we’d be foolish to think that we, as born-again Christians, will be able, in any manner, to be “offended” by anyone under these guidelines!

Christians, believe it or not, there is a grand plot underway in the United States and around the world to squelch biblical marriage and religious freedom of the Christian variety! While everyone involved in these wicked schemes would say that such efforts are not specifically anti-Christian in nature, it’s interesting to note how often it is that when someone gets burned, as Luis Padilla did recently, they are found to be of Christian background, persecuted for upholding Christian principles.

Or is it just me?

The Faith of the Centurion

Friday, October 27th, 2006

5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.
6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed and in terrible suffering.”

7 Jesus said to him, “I will go and heal him.”

8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

10 When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, “I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. 11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! It will be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that very hour.

Matthew 8:5-13 (New International Version)

This is one of my favorite accounts of faith and healing.
Try to imagine the scene of Jesus and the Centurion. Here we have an office in the Roman Legion, a commander with approximately 100 men under him. Centurions were often placed in command of garrisons and their sub-garrisons. This was an important man in the local Roman hierarchy. His rank would equate to a Captain from modern times.
At that time in history, the Romans had subjugated the Holy Land region, bringing their own governors to oversee the area and appointing puppet kings to keep the indigenous populations peaceful and in line. The Romans ruled harshly when confronted by “difficult” people, which the Jews of that time were.
But here we have a Roman humbling himself before a Jew. Not even an important Jew by the standards of that day. A mere carpenter by trade.
Our Centurion was able to see past the social mores of the day, past what was apparent when meeting with the “locals” face to face. Somehow, most likely by word of mouth, he had heard that this Jesus fellow was different. He had heard of many miraculous events and healings by this Jewish carpenter turned prophet. Roman medicine had failed to heal his servant. Maybe this man could do something.
Then the Centurion did things even more out of character. He approached Jesus humbly. He called Jesus “Lord” and when Jesus agreed go to his house to heal his servant, the Centurion wouldn’t hear of it. He answered instead “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof.” Complete humility.
The Centurion then surprises us more, by showing great faith that Jesus was going to do exactly what He said He was going to do. He said:
“But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
Matthew goes on to tell us that Jesus was “astonished” at the faith of this conqueror; this man who was not even a Jew or a local, but a foreigner.
Jesus said “I tell you the truth; I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.”
Think what Jesus would do for us if we had the faith in Him that the Centurion had.
Jesus told him “Go! It will be done just as you believed it would” and Matthew writes that “his servant was healed at that very hour.”
Have faith in Jesus. Trust Him to do what He promises He will do. Go to Him humbly and with a sincere heart. He will hear you and He will respond.

Congress demands investigation of case against Border Patrol agents.

Friday, October 27th, 2006

What a complete travesty of justice!! Has our judicial system gone totally mad?
For those of you who may not have heard, back on October 20, two border patrol offices were sentenced to jail time for shooting a potentially armed Mexican drug smuggler.
Check this out:

Two U.S. Border Patrol agents were sentenced to prison terms of 11 years and 12 years for shooting a drug-smuggling suspect in the buttocks as he fled across the U.S.-Mexico border.

U.S. District Court Judge Kathleen Cardone in El Paso, Texas, sentenced Jose Alonso Compean to 12 years in prison and Ignacio Ramos to 11 years and one day despite a plea by their attorney for a new trial after three jurors said they were coerced into voting guilty in the case, the Washington Times reported.

As WorldNetDaily reported, a federal jury convicted Compean, 28, and Ramos, 37, in March after a two-week trial on charges of causing serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and a civil rights violation.

Ramos is an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve and a former nominee for Border Patrol Agent of the Year.

On Feb. 17, he responded to a request for back up from Compean, who noticed a suspicious van near the levee road along the Rio Grande River near the Texas town of Fabens, about 40 miles east of El Paso.

Ramos, who headed toward Fabens hoping to cut off the van, soon joined a third agent already in pursuit.

Behind the wheel of the van was an illegal alien, Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila of Mexico. Unknown to the growing number of Border Patrol agents converging on Fabens, Aldrete-Davila’s van was carrying 800 pounds of marijuana.

Unable to outrun Ramos and the third agent, Aldrete-Davila stopped the van on the levee, jumped out and started running toward the river. When he reached the other side of the levee, he was met by Compean who had anticipated the smuggler’s attempt to get back to Mexico.

“We both yelled out for him to stop, but he wouldn’t stop, and he just kept running,” Ramos told California’s Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. Aldrete-Davila crossed a canal.

“At some point during the time where I’m crossing the canal, I hear shots being fired,” Ramos said. “Later, I see Compean on the ground, but I keep running after the smuggler.”

At that point, Ramos said, Aldrete-Davila turned toward him, pointing what looked like a gun.

“I shot,” Ramos said. “But I didn’t think he was hit, because he kept running into the brush and then disappeared into it. Later, we all watched as he jumped into a van waiting for him. He seemed fine. It didn’t look like he had been hit at all.”

The commotion and multiple calls for back up had brought seven other agents – including two supervisors – to the crossing by this time. Compean picked up his shell casings, but Ramos did not. He also did not follow agency procedure and report that he had fired his weapon.

“The supervisors knew that shots were fired,” Ramos told the paper. “Since nobody was injured or hurt, we didn’t file the report. That’s the only thing I would’ve done different.”

Had he done that one thing differently, it’s unlikely it would have mattered to prosecutors.

More than two weeks after the incident, Christopher Sanchez, an investigator with the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General, received a call from a Border Patrol agent in Wilcox, Ariz. The agent’s mother-in-law had received a call from Aldrete-Davila’s mother in Mexico telling her that her son had been wounded in the buttocks in the shooting.

Sanchez followed up with a call of his own to the smuggler in Mexico.

In a move that still confuses Ramos and Compean, the U.S. government filed charges against them after giving full immunity to Aldrete-Davila and paying for his medical treatment at an El Paso hospital.

At trial, Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra Kanof told the court that the agents had violated an unarmed Aldrete-Davila’s civil rights.

“The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled it is a violation of someone’s Fourth Amendment rights to shoot them in the back while fleeing if you don’t know who they are and/or if you don’t know they have a weapon,” said Kanof.

Kanof dismissed Ramos’ testimony that he had seen something shiny in the smuggler’s hand, saying that the agent couldn’t be sure it was a gun he had seen.

Further, Kanof argued, it was a violation of Border Patrol policy for agents to pursue fleeing suspects.

Agents are not allowed to pursue. In order to exceed the speed limit, you have to get supervisor approval, and they did not,” she told the Daily Bulletin.

Those shell casings Compean picked up were described to the jury as destroying the crime scene and their failure to file an incident report – punishable by a five-day suspension, according to Border Patrol regulations – an attempted cover up.

The Texas jury came back with a guilty verdict. Conviction for discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence has an automatic 10-year sentence. The other counts have varying punishments.

“How are we supposed to follow the Border Patrol strategy of apprehending terrorists or drug smugglers if we are not supposed to pursue fleeing people?” said Ramos, who noted that he only did on that day what he had done for the previous 10 years. “Everybody who’s breaking the law flees from us. What are we supposed to do? Do they want us to catch them or not?”

He also noted that none of the other agents who had responded to the incident filed reports that shots were fired and, besides, both supervisors at the scene knew they had discharged their weapons.

“You need to tell a supervisor because you can’t assume that a supervisor knows about it,” Kanof countered. “You have to report any discharge of a firearm.”

“This is the greatest miscarriage of justice I have ever seen,” said Andy Ramirez of the nonprofit group Friends of the Border Patrol. “This drug smuggler has fully contributed to the destruction of two brave agents and their families and has sent a very loud message to the other Border Patrol agents: If you confront a smuggler, this is what will happen to you.

The El Paso Sheriff’s Department increased its patrols around the Ramos home when the family received threats from people they believed were associated with Aldrete-Davila.

Now a congressional group has requested that the President investigate and issue full pardons to both of these officers.

WASHINGTON – Congressmen concerned about the convictions and stiff prison sentences of two Border Patrol agents who injured a Mexican drug dealer they were pursuing say Homeland Security officials told them the pair were “out to shoot Mexicans.”

The White House and federal officials have been getting heat for offering the drug dealer immunity to testify against the two lawmen — Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean – both of whom are Mexican-Americans.

Some members of Congress, as well as National Border Patrol Council President T.J. Bonner, now say it’s time for the officials to provide the proof they promised.

Aldrete-Davila, a Mexican, is now suing the Border Patrol for $5 million for his injury and violation of his rights.

A congressional hearing on the case is being planned for Nov. 13.

a dozen members of the House of Representatives have written to President Bush demanding an investigation of the case against the Border Patrol agents.

The letter to Bush was signed by Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C., Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., Rep. Dan Burton, R-Ind., Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite, R-Fla., Rep. Gary Miller, R-Calif., Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, Rep. Virgil Goode, R-Va. and Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., the chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus.

“Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean attempted to apprehend a Mexican drug smuggler who brought 743 pounds of marijuana across the U.S. border last year,” wrote the congressmen. “The two agents were prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the smuggler was granted full immunity to testify against the agents. Both men were convicted by a Texas jury for firing shots at the fleeing smuggler, who, they believed, carried a gun.”

The letter questioned the accuracy of the charges against the agents and the conduct of the prosecutor, U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton.

“We ask that a full investigation of this case be ordered immediately,” they went on to say in the letter sent to the White House yesterday. “We are confident that during such an investigation you will find that these Border Patrol agents were acting within the scope of their duty and were unjustly prosecuted. Also, we ask that you use your power of presidential pardon, as granted by the United States Constitution in Article II, Section 2, to pardon these two Border Patrol agents. We understand these requests usually are for those that have already completed their sentences; however, we feel in this case it would be a miscarriage of justice to send these two Border Patrol agents to prison for protecting our nation’s borders from an illegal drug smuggler.”

The letter notes that both agents have been ordered to surrender themselves to federal authorities Jan. 17 unless action is taken to overturn “this unjust result.”

“This is not the message that our legal system should be giving to the drug cartels that are smuggling drugs, people and terrorists across our borders,” said Tancredo, author of “In Mortal Danger,” a book that says the insecure border and immigration enforcement policies represent the No. 1 crisis in the U.S. today.

Conservatives Predict Voter Backlash Following NJ Marriage Ruling

Friday, October 27th, 2006

I can’t tell you enough times that your participation in the election in two weeks is going to make or break the way our government deals with your Christian values. You cannot afford to sit at home.

(AgapePress) – Marriage traditionalists and pro-family leaders are predicting Wednesday’s ruling in New Jersey requiring equal rights for same-sex couples will energize Christian conservatives in eight states where, in less than two weeks, voters will decide whether to amend their state constitutions to preserve traditional marriage.

The New Jersey Supreme Court high court ruled that homosexual couples are entitled to the same rights as married heterosexual couples, and gave state lawmakers 180 days to rewrite marriage laws to include homosexual couples or else to create civil unions in the state. Matt Daniels is president of the Alliance for Marriage, a group that supports a federal amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. He predicts an Election Day backlash — in the form of an increased conservative turnout — to the pro-homosexual ruling in New Jersey.

“It will drive people to the polls in states where marriage referenda are on the ballot,” Daniels tells Associated Press. “To the extent that that spills over into races, it could have an impact on the outcome of elections.” A constitutional marriage amendment is on the ballot in eight states on November 7 — Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Daniels expects conservatives to propel those amendments to victory.

“When the people are given a chance to speak, they speak strongly in favor of the common-sense idea that marriage is a man and woman, that kids do best with a mom and a dad,” Daniels tells Associated Press. “And so, you will see increased numbers at the polls in the other states in the wake of this decision in New Jersey.”

A spokesman for a pro-marriage group in one of those states concurs. Bryan Fischer, executive director of the Idaho Values Alliance, says the court decision in New Jersey “highlights the urgency” for voters in his state to pass that state’s marriage initiative, thus “insulat[ing] marriage policy in Idaho from activist judges.”

“Our opponents have been saying all along that we don’t need a marriage amendment because we already have a state law dealing with this issue,” says Fischer. “Well, as Massachusetts and now New Jersey make clear, just having a state law is not enough to keep tyrannical judges from tampering with marriage.” Passage of Idaho’s marriage amendment, he says, will make sure that “what happened … in New Jersey never happens here.”

That is exactly what Dr. James Dobson hopes will happen in Idaho and the other seven states considering marriage amendments. He says the New Jersey ruling should convince voters what needs to be done to keep marriage “out of the hands of activist courts.” “We only hope that the residents of the eight states who will vote on such amendments … recognize that [like in Massachusetts and New Jersey] their state may be only one court ruling away from being forced to accept gay marriage,” says the Focus on the Family founder.

Dobson is also convinced that a specific objective is lurking behind Wednesday’s decision. “Nothing less than the future of the American family hangs in the balance if we allow one-man, one-woman marriage to be redefined out of existence,” he says in a press release. “And make no mistake — that is precisely the outcome the New Jersey Supreme Court is aiming for with this decision.”

Like Dobson, the president of Concerned Women for America is accusing the NJ high court of attempting to “uproot” marriage by “imposing its own form of discrimination” by declaring that marriage can reside within a relationship involving two men or two women. But in doing so, says Wendy Wright, the court has now given citizens in the eight states “greater reason” to vote on November 7 to protect marriage.

Nazi Imagery on UC Irvine’s Campus, Administrator: “One Person’s Hate Speech is Another Person’s Education”

Friday, October 27th, 2006

I wish this was only made up, but these days, in the world of academia, truth is truly stranger than fiction.

On Sunday, October 8th at 00:15 someone phoned in a complaint to the Irvine police department that went something like this: “hi, I was walking by the student housing at Vista Del Campo, and it appears that somebody has painted swastikas all over the building”. Twenty days or so days later, we finally find out about this – apparently this isn’t a big deal around these parts any more. The only reason we found out at all is because LAist linked to two articles in CampusJ about the issue. CampusJ is apparently some sort of Jewish Campus journalism outlet. We can’t figure out more than that because the site has been knocked offline (a quick glance at Technorati leads us to blame Steven Weiss for this, but there could be others). We do know that CampusJ is not the official UCI campus outlet. For one thing, the UCI paper is called the New University. For another, the author of these articles – Reut Cohen – probably couldn’t have written something like this for the New University. Some time last year the New University specifically asked Cohen to tone down her pro-Israel coverage because it was causing too much controversy (allegedly… that’s what we heard at least). So they probably wouldn’t let her publish something like this.

So this incident: the University really wants you to believe that someone was really pissed off about a student housing policy, and that they decided the way to express that was through anti-Semitic hate speech. Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Manuel Gomez even put out a statement on this question, making it one of his foremost talking points: (Google cache):

We are addressing this vandalism as a top priority and are pursuing a police investigation. Please contact the UCI Police Department if you have any pertinent information. The initial review of the police report leads one to believe that on the face of it, a person(s) is/are unhappy with Vista del Campo. The juxtaposition of the vulgar language and swastika symbol leads us to this impression. Nevertheless, the use of this symbol is disturbing, especially so when it appears where we live. We are well aware that even though this seems to be directed at the Vista del Campo, it still affects our students and campus community.

The last time we talked about Vice Chancellor Gomez, he was giving an interview to a hate group about anti-discrimination efforts targeting the UCI campus (can’t imagine what they had to be concerned about). The hate group sympathized deeply with his plight, and then went on to use the situation to launch thinly veiled threats against the Jewish students and campus leaders that Gomez supposedly speaks for. On the basis of their interview with Gomez, they threatened that “the large majority of citizens” are about to “lose patience” with “the Jews”.

And how is the University dealing with this hate speech? With these preachers brought in by the Muslim Student Union who scream about “Zionists” and then nudge-nudge wink-wink the crowd? How is the University dealing with Nazi-link statements that may or may not have led to Nazi-link vandalism? We couldn’t make this up: (Google cache):

Some of the Jewish students at the meeting revealed that they and others had been subject to verbal and physical intimidation at the hands of MSU members, and that they had previously reported these claims to campus security. In light of this, some students asked that Drake place restrictions on where MSU events are held, saying that if their events were held in classrooms as opposed to public spaces, their effect would not be as broad. However, Chancellor Drake told Jewish students at the meeting that he cannot restrict any club, that it would be “violation of law to prohibit certain speech.” Gomez emphasized that though hate speech may be present, he would not seek to curtail it, as “one person’s hate speech is another person’s education.”

That. Is. Awesome.

Here’s a hint to Chancellor Drake and Vice Chancellor Gomez: it’s no longer about you prohibiting hate speech. Sure, it’d be nice if you took some step like saying “the University does not endorse it when Muslim clerics link Jews to conspiracy theories”. But let’s not get crazy. At this point, we’re asking for no more fodder to hate groups, no more paying for hate speech, and no more pretending that you don’t have a gigantic problem on your campus.

For instance, let’s say that this vandal really was just angry with the management of the Vista Del Campo housing complex. Wouldn’t that make it worse for the UCI administration? Wouldn’t it mean that their students now, as a matter of course, find deploying anti-Semitic hate speech to be the most natural thing in the world? Because after all, as Vice Chancellor Gomez says, “one person’s hate speech is another person’s education”. Seriously, this is disgusting. That man should resign or be fired. But of course he won’t be, because “protecting academic freedom” means never having to say you’re sorry because your students have become violent anti-Semites under investigation by the FBI for terrorism.

Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs says:

The University of California Irvine has been the subject of many posts at LGF, because the school plays host to one of the most unabashedly radical Muslim Student Union groups in the US. And now the anti-Jewish incitement has reached such a fever pitch that on the weekend of October 8, a student housing building was defaced with swastikas.

What? You didn’t hear about it on the news? Apparently, deranged expressions of antisemitism on California campuses are not really news any more.

“It’s because they’re Jews – stupid!” by Stan Goodenough

The Jews of Hebron hit it right on the head Wednesday evening, when they sent a letter to the foreign policy chief of the European Union, who had arrived in Israel earlier in the day to level a fusillade of complaints at Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.

Javier Solana had demanded to know why the Israeli government had not yet uprooted “illegal” Jewish-built structures from Samaria and Judea. Israel must raze them immediately!

And, he insisted, Israel should do more to help facilitate the quick implementation of the Road Map “peace” plan – which aims to see tens of thousands of Jews uprooted from their biblical homeland in order that a new Arab state can be established in their place.

The arrogance and audacity of Solana his constituency knows no bounds.

But we all know about Europe, a continent that has been saturated for centuries with the worst manifestations of antisemitism ever seen anywhere. Its rotten fruit flourishes, camouflaged but unchecked.

I know this as a gentile student of the last 2000 years of Jewish history.

Jews everywhere, but perhaps most especially those living in Hebron – a center of Jewish existence that continued unbroken for more than 3000 years before the British helped Hebron’s Arabs slaughter its Jews in 1929 – know it first hand.

In their response to Solana, the leaders of Hebron’s Jews, Noam Arnon and David Wilder, drove a two-edged blade of truth and justice deep into his belly.

“As you are a representative from Spain, a country responsible for the expulsion of over a quarter of a million Jews from their homes and country in 1492, we demand that you immediately stop pressuring Israel to implement another expulsion of Jews from their homes and communities in the Land of Israel.”

They showed Solana the door.

“Please leave Israel, return to your own EU business and minority problems, and stop interfering with the internal affairs of the State of Israel.”

Last month, an Israeli politician who lives in one of the settlements in Judea told in my hearing of a conversation he had with a British diplomat at the UK’s consulate in Jerusalem.

He had put two questions to her:

1. If every Jew was removed (voluntarily or forcefully) from Judea and Samaria, and the EU and United Nations certified that not a single Israeli soldier or civilian remained in “occupied Arab territory” east of the 1967 border or “Green Line,” could England guarantee that Israel would be left to live in peace?

“Of course not,” was her reply.

2. And if all the Jews in the Middle East were transferred to Europe, and Frenchmen or Germans or Englishmen were transplanted into the Middle East in their place, did she believe there would be peace in the region?

Her response: “No.”

They know it, you see, these European leaders who cannot sleep at night for trying to find a “solution” for this intractable war. They know that it is not because of the settlers or the Jews that there is violence and instability in the Middle East.

They know that the fault lies with the Muslim Arabs; that the Arabs are the real obstacle to peace.

This is what makes these western nations’ sin so heinous, their behavior towards the Jewish people so black.

This is how we know that antisemitism spawned and drives the “Road Map” to their latest “final solution” to the “Jewish question.”

One western politician whose country is not chained to the oil wells of Arabia nor overly concerned with how much his nation is loved or hated by hordes of keffiyeh-wearers in the Middle East this week took a firm stand with Israel against those bent on destroying her.

When he did so, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper also demonstrated a clear-sighted comprehension of the connection between the efforts to wipe out the Jews today and those practiced by their enemies through the ages.

Explaining why his government had taken an unequivocal stand on Israel’s side during the recent war in southern Lebanon, Harper said:

“The fact is [that] those who attacked Israel and those who sponsor such attacks don’t seek merely to gain some leverage, to alter some boundary or to right some wrong.

“They seek what they and those like them have always sought: the destruction of Israel and the destruction of the Jewish people. Why? A thousand complicated rationalizations, but only one simple reason: because the Jews are different, because the Jews are not like them. And because Israel is different and alone in a complicated and dangerous part of the world.”

Referring to the Holocaust he warned: “Those who seek to destroy the Jews, who seek to destroy Israel, will for the same reason ultimately seek to destroy us all.”

Airport taxi flap about alcohol has deeper significance

Friday, October 27th, 2006

No surprise here. I like the way Cox and Forkum illustrated it.

Not in My Cab

At the Starbucks coffee shop in Minneapolis’ Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, a favorite Somali gathering spot, holidaymakers celebrating Eid, the end of Ramadan, filled the tables on Monday. Several taxis were parked outside.

An animated circle of Somalis gathered when the question of the airport controversy was raised.

“I was surprised and shocked when I heard it was an issue at the airport,” said Faysal Omar. “Back in Somalia, there was never any problem with taking alcohol in a taxi.”

Jama Dirie said, “If a driver doesn’t pick up everyone, he should get his license canceled and get kicked out of the airport.”

Two of the Somalis present defended the idea that Islam prohibits cabdrivers from transporting passengers with alcohol. An argument erupted. The consensus seemed to be that only a small number of Somalis object to transporting alcohol. It’s a matter of personal opinion, not Islamic law, several men said.

Ahmed Samatar, a nationally recognized expert on Somali society at Macalester College, confirmed that view. “There is a general Islamic prohibition against drinking,” he said, “but carrying alcohol for people in commercial enterprise has never been forbidden. There is no basis in Somali cultural practice or legal tradition for that.

“This is one of those new concoctions.”It is being foisted on the Somali community by an inside or outside group,” he added. “I do not know who.”

But many Somali drivers at the airport are refusing to carry passengers with alcohol. When I asked Patrick Hogan, Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesman, for his explanation, he forwarded a fatwa, or religious edict, that the MAC had received. The fatwa proclaims that “Islamic jurisprudence” prohibits taxi drivers from carrying passengers with alcohol, “because it involves cooperating in sin according to the Islam.”

The fatwa, dated June 6, 2006, was issued by the “fatwa department” of the Muslim American Society, Minnesota chapter, and signed by society officials.

The society is mediating the conflict between the cab drivers and the MAC. That seems odd, since the society itself clearly has a stake in the controversy’s outcome.

How did the MAC connect with the society? “The Minnesota Department of Human Rights recommended them to us to help us figure out how to handle this problem,” Hogan said.

Omar Jamal, director of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center, thinks he knows why the society is promoting a “no-alcohol-carry” agenda with no basis in Somali culture. “MAS is an Arab group; we Somalis are African, not Arabs,” he said. “MAS wants to polarize the world, create two camps. I think they are trying to hijack the Somali community for their Middle East agenda. They look for issues they can capitalize on, like religion, to rally the community around. The majority of Somalis oppose this, but they are vulnerable because of their social and economic situation.”

What is the Muslim American Society? In September 2004 the Chicago Tribune published an investigative article. The society was incorporated in 1993, the paper reported, and is the name under which the U.S. branch of the Muslim Brotherhood operates.

The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna. The Tribune described the Brotherhood as “the world’s most influential Islamic fundamentalist group.”Because of its hard-line beliefs, the U.S. Brotherhood has been an increasingly divisive force within Islam in America, fueling the often bitter struggle between moderate and conservative Muslims,” the paper reported.

The international Muslim Brotherhood “preaches that religion and politics cannot be separated and that governments eventually should be Islamic,” according to the Tribune. U.S. members emphasize that they follow American laws, but want people here to convert to Islam so that one day a majority will support a society governed by Islamic law.

Paul’s Charge to Timothy, a Charge to Us Also

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

10 You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. 12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:10-17 (New International Version)

In his closing to Timothy, Paul makes several points that are important for us to understand.

As Christians, we should expect that at some point in our lives, we will be persecuted for accepting and following Jesus. He told us this would happen. Paul reiterates that point here “In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted”. But Paul goes on to point out that “Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them” (the people who were persecuting him). When we trust in Jesus, He will rescue us from all sorts of problems when we trust in Him to do so.

Paul concludes with “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Here he points out the important point that the Bible is from God. God-breathed or inspired by Him, every letter of it is important to us in order to understand God’s will for us. Only by spending time in the Bible can a Christian be prepared for “evil men and impostors”, “deceiving and being deceived.”
But as Paul says, those who know “the holy Scriptures” will be “wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”
Read your Bible. Know what it says, or at least how to find what it says about issues we face in the world today, and have faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior!!

Christians, ‘Values Voters’ Reassured That Their Vote Is Critical

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

In this election it’s time to vote your Christian Values. I don’t agree with everything the President and Republicans have done, but when I look at the Democrats and what they stand for, there is just no way that I can support their party.
The quandary occurs when the Democrat candidate is a moderate and seems to indicate he/she will support the issues that are important to you. The problem with that logic is that, if elected, the Democrat will vote, into leadership positions, the very people who represent the core values of the Democratic Party (Kennedy, Pelosi and such) which are nothing like the values of the person you elected. The “moderate” voice of your Democrat candidate will be lost in the overwhelming voices of the liberal Democrats who control that party.
These very same leaders have made it very clear how they feel about abortion, gay marriage and Christians. Remember that they use the litmus test of abortions to decide if a person can be a Federal judge. They are all for gay marriage. As for Christians, they had no use for you, and in fact refer to us as “Fundies” and compared us to radical Islamic terrorist, up until last year when their advisors told them that they needed our vote to win, or at best to discourage us enough not to vote at all.
Please keep these things in mind when you go to vote next month. It’s not worth giving in on these moral and Christian issues in order to “punish” the Republicans. All it will be is a case of “cutting off your nose in order to spite your face”.

(AgapePress) – Do the vote and voice of one Christian really make a difference? Spokesmen for three pro-family groups believe strongly that they do — and one offers concrete examples of the positive change that can occur when thousands of those “single voices” band together to stand for what they believe in.

Dr. Kenyn Cureton serves as the vice president of church outreach for the Washington, DC-based Family Research Council. The family advocate believes it is time for those who are the Church to accept the challenge of the culture war in America and face up to their responsibility as believers. He advises, however, to do things in the proper sequence.

“We need to pray. We need to seek the face of God for our churches, for the government,” says Cureton. “And I believe the people of God, like never before, need to get on their knees.” And there is more to do after that, he says.

“After we’re on our knees in prayer, we need to get up on our feet and take a stand,” says Cureton. “We need to take a stand for the value of human life. We need to take a stand for the value of traditional marriage. And we need to take a stand for our religious freedom.”

The FRC spokesman feels the upcoming election will be crucial to the direction America takes over the next decade. And for that reason, says another Washington, DC-based activist, individuals need to pay close attention to the value of their single vote. Mike Mears, director of state legislative relations for Concerned Women for America, says those who find themselves wondering if their one vote makes a difference need to change their perspective.

“Your one vote [by itself] may not matter,” he says, “but other likeminded votes together matter a whole heck of a lot.”

Mears says history has shown that every vote counts. “In 2004, there were a couple of races, one in South Dakota — with John Thune barely beating Majority Leader Tom Daschle — where it was less than 400 votes between them,” he recalls. “So don’t tell me that your vote doesn’t matter.”

And every vote cast in the upcoming midterm elections is crucial, he says. “The Senate races seem to be very, very close — and, again, that’s where one vote very well may matter,” he urges. “We need every available values voter out there voting.”

According to Mears, when all of the “individual” votes are cast, the agenda of the nation will be finalized. There is more to this election, he says, than just the candidates.

Band Together and They Will Listen
Tim Wildmon is one pro-family leader who can attest to the difference that Christians’ votes and voices can make when it comes to social and moral issues. As president of the American Family Association, he has witnessed the enormous influence that thousands of unified voices can have on corporate conglomerates.

In a recent interview with Associated Press, Wildmon shared that, in his opinion, evangelical Christians can have enormous influence — whether it be on political or moral matters.

“Christian conservatives are among the most committed in terms of their voting and in terms of their attention to the moral issues that they care about,” says the AFA president, “and they will stop shopping with companies they feel like are violating their religious or moral sensibilities.” And when hundreds of thousands of people join together, “then you can pack a punch,” he says.

Wildmon knows of what he speaks. He believes that an AFA-initiated boycott by nearly 600,000 Christians has contributed to Ford Motor Company’s financial crisis, and that an e-mail campaign in which 750,000 Christians responded helped convince NBC to cut Madonna’s mock crucifixion scene from her upcoming TV special. He explains that the boycott against Ford centers around a moral issue.

“If Ford continues to support the gay causes, then we will continue to boycott and they’ll continue to lose money — it’s as simple as that,” he states, adding that the automaker is eventually going to have to make a decision. “We’re not asking Ford to buy ads in Christianity Today or in the American Family Association Journal or to support Christian conservative causes,” he says. “We’re just asking them to be neutral in the culture war.”

And in the case of the Madonna broadcast on Thanksgiving Eve, Wildmon says NBC has responded to Christian pressure. “They did remove the scene inside that concert special where she mocks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ,” he says, “but … only after we asked our supporters to send e-mails and also contact their local NBC affiliate.”

In a similar fashion, the pro-family leader believes “values voters” will play a critical role in the outcome of the November 7 elections, in which traditional marriage (eight states) and an abortion ban (South Dakota) appear on voter ballots. Wildmon feels that despite recent media accounts of the conservative voting bloc being “discouraged,” such issues will bring out the values voters.

“I kind of doubt that Christian conservative voters will sit out the election,” he tells AP. “They may drop off some percentage, but I don’t think [to] a large percentage because there’s too much at stake in each election now in terms of the direction the country will take.”

‘Holiday’ tree axed in favor of ‘Christmas’

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Hallelujah!! At last, people are finally figuring out there is nothing wrong or illegal about calling Christmas, “Christmas” and the associated items “Christmas _____” (fill in the blank).

City officials in Milwaukee, Wis., have uprooted a decade-long tradition and have decided to rechange the name of its “holiday tree” to a “Christmas tree.”

“Now sanity has prevailed,” Fox News host and “Culture Warrior” author Bill O’Reilly said last night, calling city officials “pinheads” for originally exchanging the name of the Christmas tree to holiday tree in 1995.

The 9-5 decision this week came after heated debate over religious tradition and political correctness at the Milwaukee Common Council.

“If we don’t have the fortitude to call the city’s Christmas tree what it is, then what do we have the fortitude to address as far as city issues?” asked Aldermen Jim Bohl.

He told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the term “holiday tree” was a product of PC attitudes, since Jews and Muslims don’t recognize evergreens as holiday symbols.

“One man’s political correctness is another man’s inclusiveness and diversity,” Ald. Mike D’Amato said.

Their colleague on the council, Michael Murphy, responded evergreens don’t have any relation to the Christian faith, since they were pagan symbols that became mixed into early Christianity.

Mayor Tom Barrett indicated he’d approve the change to be rid of the “holiday tree” term, saying through a spokeswoman, “It is what it is – a Christmas tree – but what you call it doesn’t exclude anyone from enjoying it.”

The decision prompted both praise and scorn from groups monitoring the action.

“There is no reason other than religious hostility to call a Christmas tree anything other than a Christmas tree,” said Erik Stanley of the Florida-based Liberty Counsel. “When you try to cleanse Christmas of all religious references, you demonstrate hostility to Christmas.”

But Annie Laurie Gaylor, co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, said the resolution “sounds like a very Christian-centered and very backward thing” that is “excluding Jews and other non-Christians.” She said officials “just capitulated entirely to [talk-show host Bill] O’Reilly and Fox TV.”

Gaylor’s group files lawsuits against governments it believes violate the establishment clause of the First Amendment. She told the Journal Sentinel she doesn’t sue over Christmas trees, though, as they are not inherently religious symbols, adding, “The Bible tells people not to worship trees.”

In December 2002, WND detailed how the U.S. has become the new battleground for Christmas, as communities across the nation grapple with public mention of the federal holiday, while growing numbers of Americans – including fundamentalist Christians – are claiming Jesus Christ had nothing to do with the holiday.

Since then, there have been numerous Christmas-related controversies – not only among governments, but also in the business sector with companies such as Wal-Mart, Target and Lowe’s all coming under fire for their practices during the Christmas season.

Another town gets tough on illegals

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

It’s a shame that local municipalities must foot the bills for this problem and take care of enforcement.

Another American town has decided to take matters into its own hands to help stop the invasion of illegal aliens into the U.S.

This time it’s Bridgeport, Pa., whose council has unanimously banned illegals from working or renting residences in the area.

The Illegal Immigration Relief Act came under fire from the Accion Communal Latino Americana de Montgomery County, which asked the council to reconsider the measure it calls divisive.

“It is obvious to me the ordinance could be used to foment an atmosphere of profiling,” its executive director, Eddie Cruz said.

He told the Times Herald of Norristown, Pa., that his group may file a legal challenge against the ordinance.

As WND reported in August, small cities frustrated by the federal government’s immigration policy are passing laws that make it harder for illegals to live and work in their communities.

Dozens of towns have followed the path of Hazelton, Pa., which passed an ordinance July 13 to deter housing owners from renting to illegals. Riverside, N.J., quickly passed a similar measure, which fines landlords $1,000 per day for renting to illegals and removes business licenses from employers who hire illegals.

Already, legal action has been taken by opponents who insist the new laws usurp federal authority.

The Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, which is challenging Hazelton in court, says four communities have passed similar measures and another 17 are considering them, according to

On the state level, legislatures have considered a record 550 pieces of immigration-related legislation and passed at least 77 new laws in 27 states, said, citing the National Conference of State Legislatures.

In Georgia, a massive immigration reform package passed in May sanctioned employers who hire illegals and anyone who offers them access to public services. Colorado’s legislature later passed similar measures.

In Pennsylvania, Hazelton Mayor Louis J. Barletta, an immigrant’s grandson, says he wants to make his town “the toughest place on illegal immigrants in America.”

“What I’m doing here is protecting the legal taxpayer of any race,” he told the Washington Post. “And I will get rid of the illegal people. It’s this simple: They must leave.”

While the law doesn’t take effect for another month, the Republican mayor already sees progress, according to the Post.

“I see illegal immigrants picking up and leaving — some Mexican restaurants say business is off 75 percent,” Barletta said. “The message is out there.”

* In Valley Park. Mo., earlier this month, landlords began evicting residents who don’t have legal status in the country.

Landis, N.C., unanimously passed an ordinance that requires residents to conduct business with the town in English only, the local Kannapolis Independent Tribune reported. Alderman James Furr said the reason for the ordinance is to get everyone on the same page.

“We want to welcome immigrants to Landis and want to understand them,” Furr said. “When someone comes before the board, I want to know them.”

* A nearby town, Mint Hill, N.C., is considering an ordinance that would go a step further, making English the official language but also punishing business owners that hire illegal workers or provide them services. Business owners would face loss of licenses for up to five years on the first offense, the Kannapolis Independent Tribune said.

In Escondido, Calif., city leaders voted 3-2 last week to draft an ordinance to punish people who provide jobs and housing to illegal immigrants.

Councilman Ed Gallo said the council’s charge is to “provide for the health and safety of the residents of Escondido. Is it wrong then to ask them to be here legally?”

Hispanics make up 42 percent of the town’s 142,000 people.

* In Farmers Branch, Texas, a city councilman plans to propose similar measures and also wants to stop publication of any documents in Spanish and eliminate subsidies for illegal immigrants in the city’s youth programs, according to KWTX-TV in Waco, Texas.

* In Riverside, N.J., the city council already has adjusted to court challenges, approving several amendments to reinforce an ordinance that bans hiring or housing illegal immigrants, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

* In Arcadia, Wisc., the new mayor, John Kimmel, is being accused of racism for plans to make English the official language and to create an “illegal alien task force” that would forward complaints to federal authorities and hold landlords accountable for renting to illegal immigrants, reported the Associated Press.

* The city council of Altoona, Pa., introduced an ordinance calling for fines and revocation of licenses for employers who hire illegal aliens and landlords who house them.

Officials there, however, will not include making English the official language because they fear it would not be legally defensible, the Altoona Mirror newspaper reported.

Councilman Ron Reidell said the ordinance is justifiable because illegal aliens “breaking the law sap our resources, and they show themselves unwilling to go through channels others have navigated at great expense and effort.”

Meanwhile, some employers themselves are cracking down on the hiring of illegals.

Companies in California are using the state’s unfair competition statutes to sue competitors, claiming their rivals gain an unfair advantage by hiring illegals at lower wages, without pensions or workers compensation.

Groups that oppose illegal immigration are helping finance the legal actions, the Associated Press reported, believing the tactic could prompt a wave of litigation across the country that would deter hiring of illegals.

Statistics compiled by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement show immigration law enforcement at work sites is limited. Last year, just 1,145 work site arrests were recorded, compared to 2,849 in fiscal 1999.

Federal borders agents in at least one sector also are taking initiative, cooperating with local governments to m make a 210-mile stretch along the Texas-Mexico border a “zero-tolerance zone” for illegals.

Rather than being immediately sent home, illegals caught in this area – surrounding Del Rio, Texas – are arrested, prosecuted and sometimes sentenced to prison before being formally deported, the AP reported.

Federal officials, in fact, have praised the effort as a creative combination of local and federal resources to curb illegal entry.

Other border sectors have not engaged in such a practice because of limited resources. In the Del Rio sector, however, authorities have found bed space elsewhere in the region and assigned federal agents to help prosecute cases, the AP said.

“There’s nothing we’re doing that wasn’t already on the books,” said Hilario Leal Jr., a supervisory Border Patrol agent in the Del Rio sector. “It’s nothing new. We just started enforcing the law.”

“Why Christians Must Vote in This Election” By David Barton

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

(AgapePress) – Despite the remarkable progress made in recent weeks on pro-faith and pro-family issues, virtually all the mainstream media news about Washington politics has been almost completely negative. Apparently, the liberal media does not consider progress on traditional religious and moral values to be newsworthy, but only news about the Mark Foley scandal, being bogged down in Iraq, conservative voter discouragement, etc.

Unfortunately, highlighting the negative news while ignoring the substantial progress made in the culture war tends to disengage values voters (which, by the way, certainly might be part of the reason for their selective reporting). Nevertheless, many good bills have been signed into federal law in recent weeks:

The Internet Gambling Prohibition Act…

The Broadcast Decency Act…

The Fetal Farming Ban…

The Stem Cell Therapeutic and Research Act…

The Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act…

The defunding of a $300 million grant to build a gay-lesbian center in Los Angeles.

The Freedom to Display the American Flag Act…

The Child Pornography Prevention Act…

The Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial Act…

There have also been many other good bills passed during this Congress, including bills strengthening faith-based programs, limiting judicial powers and thus restraining judicial activism, etc. Furthermore, there have been some very, very close “near misses.” For example:

The “Child Custody Protection Act” prohibits minor girls from being transported across state lines for an abortion without their parents’ knowledge. This bill passed the House twice this session, and the Senate once; yet, despite the 4-1 margin of support from the American public, the Senate has not held a Conference Committee with the House on this measure, thereby effectively killing the bill. If not for this procedural maneuver (by Democrats. -ed.), this bill would now be law.

The House passed a constitutional amendment to prevent flag desecration, and the vote in the Senate was 66-34 — one vote short of the two-thirds needed for final approval. This constitutional amendment would forever prohibit activist federal judges from addressing this issue.

The House voted (for the fourth time) to abolish the immoral Death Tax, and the Senate came within one vote of passing the repeal. Only 50 Senators are needed to rescind this outrageous anti-family tax, and 59 senators currently support the repeal; but the measure has been filibustered (by Democrats. -ed.), and the vote to break the filibuster failed by one vote as anti-family liberals hung together to keep the filibuster alive.

Furthermore, one of the most significant (and unheralded) successes in this Congress has been the confirmation of scores of strict-constructionists to the federal bench — an achievement that may be directly attributed to increased Christian voter activity in the past two elections. Over the last four years, Christian voter turnout increased 82 percent, and the result of that increase has been apparent in the changed composition of Congress.

For example, of the 94 freshmen elected to the House in those two elections, 61 were pro-life, pro-faith, and pro-family (i.e., about two-thirds of the new members). Similarly, of the 19 freshmen elected to the Senate during that time, 15 were pro-life, pro-faith, and pro-family (about 79 percent of new members). These new senators provided the margin of victory needed to confirm the appointment of two new strict-constructionist pro-life justices to the Supreme Court; and the Court has already begun to change, including this year’s decision reversing a pro-abortion policy implemented 25 years ago in 1981. In addition to these two justices, those senators have confirmed dozens of other strict-construction judges to the federal Courts of Appeal.

These are just some of the many pro-faith and pro-family measures that have recently passed through Congress — measures very encouraging to most Americans, but measures almost completely ignored by the national media. Nevertheless, be encouraged! Good things are happening! Therefore, encourage your friends in states across America to stay engaged in this election! The results of this year’s contest will determine whether America will keep moving forward in winning the culture war, or whether we will start retreating. Be active this election! Much is at stake!

In closing, while I’ve approached this article from a positive viewpoint, allow me to offer a thought for those who are better motivated by negatives than positives: What will Christians say to themselves (and to the Lord) if: (1) they don’t vote this election, (2) we lose pro-family champions in the House and Senate, (3) after the election, a Supreme Court justice announces his retirement (two-thirds of the Court is now older than 65), and (4) we no longer have the necessary votes to confirm a fifth strict-constructionist justice to the Supreme Court and thus begin bringing the culture war to its well-deserved demise? I certainly wouldn’t want to try to explain that one to my friends or family (or especially to the Lord!). Just a thought for those who might need additional motivation!

“The Throw-Away Generation?” by Michael G. Mickey

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

2nd Timothy 3:1-5 reads like a description of humanity today and it’s no coincidence as these are, as I continue to document, the last days:

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

As I prepare to update on a near-daily basis as a form of worship of my God, as well as a testimonial to His Prophetic Truth, I often find myself snagged on a particular train of thought by the Holy Spirit.

Recently, I wrote a commentary on how crime is growing at an alarming pace. As disturbing as that topic is within itself, some of the information that commentary was based on struck a nerve within my soul that I haven’t been able to shake. As you read the following excerpts from an AOL story on the surge in crime growth presently underway, I want you to bear the passage of Scripture above in mind:

*In this culture, the report explains, “arguments over seemingly minor issues escalate to the retaliatory murder of additional people.” In Trenton, N.J., for instance, an argument between two girls escalated into seven separate shootings over 24 hours. One chief said he’s frustrated with homicides in his city, and noted that they seem to be committed without any apparent motive.

“They occur for no apparent rhyme or reason. They come up over the smallest issue,” Richmond, Calif., Police Chief Chris Magnus is quoted as saying.

*Some of the police chiefs blame the exacerbation of crime on a “thug mentality” that has been glamorized in music and movies. The sheriff of Las Vegas blames gangsta rap music and its effects on young people. An Arizona chief said some of our youth has become a “throw-away generation; nobody cares for them.”

*”It appears that today there is a lower valuation of human life,” Louisville, Ky., Mayor Jerry Abramson told the authors of the report.

What darkness has come upon this generation!

How, for example, can an argument between two girls escalate into not one but seven shootings taking place in the course of a single day? It could be because of the moral decay that’s eating away at our society, the result of way too many people being lovers of themselves and pleasures instead of lovers of God! It could be because many today have no respect or even fear of Almighty God, leading them to be fierce in temperament and lacking in self-control!

How can it be that murders are literally taking place with no apparent rhyme or reason and over the smallest of issues? It could be because people are prideful to the point that they’re highminded (tuphoo {toof-o’-o}in the original Greek), which essentially means that they’re blinded with pride or conceit to the point of stupidity!

What has happened in our world that our children find “thug mentality” an appealing quality for one to possess? In my high school youth, demonstrating one’s self to be a thug didn’t make you popular! If someone had walked up and down the halls of the school I attended rapping out the violent, hate-filled lyrics that are found in a lot of mainstream music today, I can honestly say that I believe someone of virtue (and I’m not referring to a member of the adult faculty of the school either) would’ve told them to turn that garbage off! And when I say told them to turn it off, that’s just what I mean! Where I come from, we didn’t take kindly to thuggish behavior, but that was a different era. Only a few short decades ago, things were so different! It’s little wonder when you think about it.

In 1962, due largely to the efforts of atheist Madalyn Murray O’Hair, prayer was banned from our public schools by the Supreme Court. Recent Supreme Court decisions continue to undermine our children being taught anything other than the lie of evolution as theorized by Charles Darwin, who is, unless he repented of his sins, in the same dark regions that Madalyn Murray O’Hair presently abides in, that, of course, being the case unless she miraculously repented of her sins before being murdered and sawed into pieces so small her body could only be identified by her prosthetic hip and dental records. And then there are the ramifications of 1973’s Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion, which continues to curse our nation. Within all this we find why “it appears there is a lower valuation of human life” in our world today, as noted in the article by Louisville, Kentucky’s Mayor Jerry Abramson.

All of this is what happens when we strip God from our children’s consciousness in their formative school years! We create a “throw-away generation” that is so dark in spirit that all manner of wickedness is growing within it! It makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?

Teach children that their worthiness to live or die is a matter of choice and not ordained by God and it lessens their self-worth. Teach them they’re the product of random chance as opposed to created by a loving God and watch as they collectively begin to see themselves as mere animals, just another member of the food chain! Teach them that God isn’t worthy of any serious consideration in school and watch darkness flood into their lives! What is darkness, after all, but an absence of light? Amen?

If the information from the AOL story linked above didn’t tear at your heart strings, how about this? An Agape Press story indicates that a recent survey finds that many of our youth today are “alarmingly dishonest.” Here are a few facts to consider from that piece, bearing in mind 2nd Timothy 3:1-5:

*62 percent of high school students admit they have lied to a teacher about something significant within the past 12 months.

*35 percent admit they have lied to a teacher about something significant two or more times in the past 12 months!

*30 percent of high school students say they have stolen from a store in the last year.

*Over 80 percent of high school students admit that they have lied to a parent in the last year.

*23 percent of high school students admit they have stolen something from a parent or other relative in the past 12 months.

Yes, this is what happens when we strip God – and the fear of God – from our children’s consciousness in their formative school years! But, to be sure, the moral decay we’re seeing in our world today isn’t by any means solely the result of God not being educationally instilled in our children’s earliest years of life in school! The spiritual “dummification” of our children continues right on into adulthood!

Once our children get out of elementary, middle and high school, where they are not allowed to be taught about God, they head off to college where, according to an American Family Association story, many of today’s colleges and universities undermine what Christian parents have tried to teach their children, utilizing programs that are “often characterized by vehement opposition to traditional beliefs and faith-based pro-family values.” As bad as that is for Christian parents to consider occurring to their hopefully well-grounded children, imagine how terribly destructive it is for a young person who has had no Christian influences in their life to go through ALL their educational years, even into adulthood, having nothing but a godless, “scientific” explanation for their existence being fed to their young, easily-manipulated minds! And we wonder why the world is in a mess and getting worse all the time? The powers and principalities holding the reins of power in our world today are effectively turning our children into emotional and spiritual zombies by feeding them a steady diet of secularism, moral relativism, political correctness, and tolerance! May God help us as Christians to see the tremendous evil all these things represent and motivate us to work with our young people, both those in our own households and those we encounter in our daily lives, to counter these spawns from hell!

Christian parents, rise up!

As Christian parents, we need to stand boldly against the lie of evolution by telling our children the truth concerning the origins of their existence and the consequences of them not bearing that in mind at all times! There is, after all, a heaven to gain and a hell to shun! May we stand strongly in opposition to moral relativism, political correctness and tolerance as guiding principles in our children’s lives, teaching them to cast aside the moral vagueness of our times and to embrace, yes embrace, a healthy fear of God that they might obey His commandments!

New Jersey High Court Leaves Gay Marriage Rights to Legislature

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Somewhat of a misleading title from FoxNews. The court has basically uphead that gays can get married in New Jersey.

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey’s Supreme Court has left it to the Legislature to decide the rules for gay couples who want to marry in the state.

In a 4-3 ruling Wednesday, the court said the state constitution gives same-sex couples the same civil rights afforded to heterosexual couples, but the lawmakers must decide how to grant those rights.

“The Legislature must either amend the marriage statutes to include same-sex couples or create a parallel statutory structure, which will provide for, on equal terms, the rights and benefits enjoyed and burdens and obligations borne by married couples,” the court held.

Here’s more from Michelle Malkin:

Gotta go skim the opinion. Early reports on Fox suggested the court had ruled that nothing in the state constitution prevents gay marriage, but the part quoted by Instapundit says quite a bit more than that.

It sounds like they’ll let the legislature put whatever label they want on it — “marriage,” “civil unions,” etc. — but that the state’s equal protection clause requires that the incidents of marriage be made available to same-sex couples to the same degree as they are to straights.

Good news for the GOP? Probably no effect, I’d bet.

Update: Yup, that’s what they ruled — the legislature can either rewrite the marriage statute to include gays or they can leave marriage for straights and enact a separate civil union statute that grants gays the same rights as married couples.

The media’s describing this as a 4-3 decision, but that’s misleading. The three dissenters didn’t object to the main ruling that marriage rights should be extended to gay couples; on that point, it was 7-0. What they objected to is the fact that the court gave the legislature a choice of labels instead of forcing them to include gay unions under the rubric of “marriage.” I.e., the dissenters were even more radical than the majority.

Keep in mind that when this issue has come before voters, traditional marriage has won hands down every time. The only way for gay marriage to have a chance is through liberal courts.

Why Johnny is reading Islamist propoganda

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

I’ve seen this firsthand in our textbooks here in Texas.

Islam is being taught in the nation’s public schools as a religion to be embraced because “organized Islamists have gained control of textbook content,” according to an organization that analyzes textbooks.

The American Textbook Council has concluded that the situation is the consequence of “the interplay of determined Islamic political activists, textbook editors, and multiculturally minded social studies curriculum planners.”

It has gone so far that correcting the situation now becomes a problem, because “educational publishers and educational organizations have bought into claims propounded by Islamists – and have themselves become agents of misinformation.”

That comes from Gilbert T. Sewall, who not only wrote the organization’s report on Islam and textbooks, but also generated a response to the flood of criticism he encountered.

William J. Bennetta, author of The Textbook Letter and a fellow of the California Academy of Sciences, also has documented dozens of instances of advocacy for or against a belief system, and has produced a list of books where the “religion preaching” leaves them “unfit for use.”

Indeed, Middle East Forum director Daniel Pipes even has repeatedly expressed concern about the “privileging of Islam in the United States” and warns the stakes go well beyond 7th-grade texts. His opinion of Houghton Mifflin’s “Across the Centuries? Full of “apologetics” and “distortions.”

“Textbook editors seem not to recognize that a school-related Islamic agenda in the U.S. uses multiculturalism as a device to guarantee a purely favorable and uncritical view of all things Muslim. At extremes, the report suggested, multiculturalism contributes to a form of peaceable cultural jihad meant to discredit or ‘problematize’ European civilization in favor of non-Western cultures,” he wrote.

The ATC describes itself as an independent national research organization set up in 1989 to review the history and social studies textbooks used in the nation’s schools.

Also contributing to the criticism is the work of Bennetta, whose conclusions are available at He finds that textbooks from a wide range of many of the best-known publishing houses used in public schools today simply shouldn’t be there.

“When we examine the textbooks that major publishers try to sell to public schools, we sometimes find fraudulent passages that function as instruments of religious indoctrination: Religious myths are depicted as accounts of real people and events, religious superstitions are depicted as matters of fact, and the origins of religious writings are obscured or are wrapped in outright lies,” Bennetta wrote.

“These passages of religious propaganda have been devised by individuals or groups that seek to use the public schools for spreading their own sectarian doctrines and for recruiting converts. In various cases, publishers evidently have accepted material from religious pressure groups and have put the material into textbooks, even though it is laden with blatant preaching, miracle-mongering and fake ‘history,'” he wrote.

Bennetta, who is equally adamant that no religious beliefs be included as preaching in textbooks, cites a Houghton Mifflin book “Across the Centuries” as having a lot of Muslim “propaganda.” He said the 1999 version has one thing an earlier edition didn’t: an apparent source.

Listed as a consultant is “Shabbir Mansuri, Founding Director, Council on Islamic Education, Fountain Valley, California.”

Bennetta said the CIE is “a conspicuous Muslim outfit that evidently specializes in inducing schoolbook-writers to sanitize and eulogize Islam, to retail Muslim religious claims as facts, to retail Muslim woo-woo as history, and to depict Islam as an amicable religion that resembles, and is compatible with, Judaism and Christianity.”

He said other texts and publishers for which he’s found a basis for criticism include “Human Heritage: A World History” by Glencoe/McGraw-Hill; “A Message of “Ancient Days” by Houghton Mifflin; “Across the Centuries” by Houghton Mifflin; “Heath World History: Perspectives on the Past” by McDougal Littell; “Ancient World” by McGraw-Hill School Division; “Making Thirteen Colonies” by Oxford University Press, “World History: Continuity and Change” by Holt, Rinehart and Winston; and “World Cultures: A Global Mosaic” by Prentice Hall, among others.

Muslim leader blames women for sex attacks

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Here’s a real eye opening comment from a representative of the so-called religion of “peace and tolerance” (aka Islam).
Apparently it’s a woman’s fault when a Muslim man rapes her. That’s right folks, Australia’s most senior Muslim cleric, says that if a woman goes without covering up her body, or wears makeup, she is just “asking” to be raped by Muslim men. You see, according to Islam, she is a “weapon of Satan”.
So now that you ladies are afforded the title of “demon spawn” by Muslims and equated to meat left in the sun too long, you better get those skirts lengthened down to your ankles, that plunging neckline up to your chin and put something over your head, or, as far as Muslim men are concerned, you’re going to have a great big bulls eye painted on you.
Can all of you see just what Islam is all about now? This is how Islam views women. Women are property of the Muslim man. If they get “uppity”, any man, not just their husband, can beat them. This is what will happen if Muslims are allowed to force their “values” into our societies.
Time to wake up before it’s too late.

THE nation’s most senior Muslim cleric has blamed immodestly dressed women who don’t wear Islamic headdress for being preyed on by men and likened them to abandoned “meat” that attracts voracious animals.

In a Ramadan sermon that has outraged Muslim women leaders, Sydney-based Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali also alluded to the infamous Sydney gang rapes, suggesting the attackers were not entirely to blame.

While not specifically referring to the rapes, brutal attacks on four women for which a group of young Lebanese men received long jail sentences, Sheik Hilali said there were women who “sway suggestively” and wore make-up and immodest dress … “and then you get a judge without mercy (rahma) and gives you 65 years”.

“But the problem, but the problem all began with who?” he asked.

The leader of the 2000 rapes in Sydney’s southwest, Bilal Skaf, a Muslim, was initially sentenced to 55 years’ jail, but later had the sentence reduced on appeal.

In the religious address on adultery to about 500 worshippers in Sydney last month, Sheik Hilali said: “If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it … whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat?

“The uncovered meat is the problem.”

The sheik then said: “If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred.”

He said women were “weapons” used by “Satan” to control men.

“It is said in the state of zina (adultery), the responsibility falls 90 per cent of the time on the woman. Why? Because she possesses the weapon of enticement (igraa).”

Of course we have the standard mock “outrage” from the so-called “moderate” Muslims.

Muslim community leaders were yesterday outraged and offended by Sheik Hilali’s remarks, insisting the cleric was no longer worthy of his title as Australia’s mufti.

Young Muslim adviser Iktimal Hage-Ali – who does not wear a hijab – said the Islamic headdress was not a “tool” worn to prevent rape and sexual harassment. “It’s a symbol that readily identifies you as being Muslim, but just because you don’t wear the headscarf doesn’t mean that you’re considered fresh meat for sale,” the former member of John Howard’s Muslim advisory board told The Australian. “The onus should not be on the female to not attract attention, it should be on males to learn how to control themselves.”

Australia’s most prominent female Muslim leader, Aziza Abdel-Halim, said the hijab did not “detract or add to a person’s moral standards”, while Islamic Council of Victoria spokesman Waleed Ali said it was “ignorant and naive” for anyone to believe that a hijab could stop sexual assault.

“Anyone who is foolish enough to believe that there is a relationship between rape or unwelcome sexual interference and the failure to wear a hijab, clearly has no understanding of the nature of sexual crime,” he said.

Ms Hage-Ali said she was “disgusted and offended” by Shiek Hilali’s comments. “I find it very offensive that a man who considers himself as a mufti, a leader of Australia’s Muslims, can give comment that lacks intelligence and common sense.”

Followed by the usual “that’s only what I said, but it’s not what I really meant” mantra.

Yesterday, the mufti defended the sermon about “adultery and theft”, a recorded copy of which has been obtained and translated by The Australian.

Sheik Hilali said he only meant to refer to prostitutes as “meat” and not any scantily dressed woman with no hijab, despite him not mentioning the word prostitute during the 17-minute talk.

He told The Australian the message he intended to convey was: “If a woman who shows herself off, she is to blame … but a man should be able to control himself”. He said if a woman is “covered and respectful” she “demands respect from a man”. “But when she is cheap, she throws herself at the man and cheapens herself.”

Sheik Hilali also insisted his references to the Sydney gang rapes were to illustrate that Skaf was guilty and worthy of receiving such a harsh sentence.

Waleed Ali said Sheik Hilali was “normalising immoral sexual behaviour” by comparing women to meat and men to animals and entirely blaming women for being victims.

“It’s basically saying that the immoral response of men to women who are not fully covered is as natural and as inevitable as the response of an animal tempted by food,” he said.

“But (unlike animals) men are people who have moral responsibilities and the capability in engaging in moral action.”

Calm the Storm

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Mark 4:35-41 (New International Version)

Are you tossed by the storms of life? Do the “waves” and “wind” batter you, blowing you every which way except the direction you want to go?
Jesus can help.
As with the storm on the lake, threatening to swamp the boat, life can threaten to drive us under as well. But just as with the storm, Jesus can bring us peace. With just the words of “Quiet! Be still!”, Jesus can restore the calm to your life. He can calm the storm of life.
But the words “Quiet! Be still!” are not just for the storm on the lake or the storm of life, they are also for us.
Have you ever tried to listen to someone while you are talking? It’s hard, if not impossible to do. Some important fact is bound to be missed. That is why we should take to heart what Jesus told the storm, and apply it to our own lives. “Quiet! Be still!” Hear what God is trying to tell you.
There are many times, on the drive into work that I will turn off the radio and let the silence fill the car. What better way to hear God, then alone and in silence.
“Quiet! Be still!”
Hear what God is saying. Let Him calm the storms in your life.
