Iraqi Christians plead for help from White House

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Continue to pray for Christians around the world who are being persecuted.

Faced with growing repression by Muslims, Christians from an ancient tradition in Iraq are calling on American political leaders for help before their entire community is extinguished.

Christian Assyrians and some of their supporters demonstrated in front of the White House yesterday, highlighting an alarming trend reported by the U.N.: While representing just 5 percent of the Iraqi population, 40 percent of the refugees fleeing the country are Assyrians.

One of the speakers at the rally, Nina Shea of Freedom House’s Center for Religious Freedom in D.C., told WND that because of the “ethnic cleansing,” the Christians want an autonomous district in Iraq they can administrate.

The zone, called the Nineveh Plains Administrative Unit, would allow Assyrians and other Christians to practice their faith, speak and teach their language, and work their land without fear of persecution.

Unlike the Sunnis and Shiites, the Christians have no militia and are completely defenseless, Shea said.

“They need to administrate their own governmental unit to protect themselves,” she said. “Otherwise, with the chaos and violence and persecution targeting Christians for religious reasons, which the U.N. has documented, they will disappear.

Shea insisted it’s in the interest of the U.S. to take a stand.

With the loss of the highly educated and skilled Christians, she argued, Iraq is “experiencing a brain drain as well as sane drain – a force of moderation and a bridge to the West.”

“They have served the U.S. in Iraq nobly, and they will leave a real vacuum,” said Shea.

While the Christians in Iraq have been repressed for decades, Shea pointed out, they have suffered more since the war began, with kidnappings, crucifixions and dozen of churches bombed by jihadist terror.

Among the atrocities documented this year:

* Father Paulos Eskandar, of Mor Afrem Syriac Orthodox Church, was kidnapped Oct. 9 by Muslims and decapitated two days later. He was murdered despite Christians fulfilled a demand to post a text on the church doors condemning the pope’s statement about Islam.

* On Oct. 4, a car bomb detonated in a Christian area and killed nine people, including Georges Zara, member of the Assyrian Chaldean Syriac National Council.

* A 14-year-old boy was crucified and stabbed in the stomach, mimicking what was done to Jesus, in Albasra.

* On Oct. 21, in Baquba, a group of veiled Muslims attacked a workplace where a 14-year-old boy named Ayad Tariq worked. The men asked the boy for his identity card. After seeing he was Christian the men asked whether he was a “dirty Christian sinner.” Ayad answered: “Yes, I am Christian, but I am not a sinner.” The rebels yelled he was a dirty Christian sinner and continued to grab him and to scream, “Allahu, Akbar! Allahu, Akbar!” The boy then was decapitated.

* In August, 13 Assyrian Christian women in Baghdad were kidnapped and murdered.

* In January, churches were bombed in Basra and Baghdad.

Shea noted that the Kurds, who control the north, have been denying the Christian Assyrians many of the benefits that have come from U.S. largesse.

Hamas Chief Promises War Even if PA State is Established

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

From the category of “we’re not surprised”, here’s a comment from the slimy leader of the slimy terrorist organization Hamas.

Khaled Meshaal, the Damascus-based leader of the Hamas terrorist organization, makes no bones: Either Israel leaves all of Judea, Samaria and Gaza and agrees to the ‘right of return’ – or war.

Meshaal is officially the head of the diplomatic desk of Hamas, but is recognized as the #1 man in the terrorist organization. The target of a failed Israeli assassination attempt a decade ago, Meshaal told a Lebanese newspaper this week that Hamas will not hesitate to resume its armed warfare against Israel.

Specifically, he threatened, “If within six months, the international community does not come up with a plan for the establishment of a Palestinian state in the 1967 borders [i.e., on all the land liberated by Israel in the Six Day War – ed.] and for the return of the refugees, the Palestinians will turn to an armed struggle against Israel.”

“We can have an intifada even when running the Palestinian Authority,” Meshaal said, explaining that the ceasefire was not designed to bring peace, but is rather another stage in the war with Israel. “The current calm [cease-fire in Gaza – ed.], just like the escalation [before that], is part of the way we manage the conflict with Israel.”

Many Israeli military men and analysts have said that Hamas is using the current truce in Gaza to rearm and regroup towards the next round of fighting.

Hamas Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniye, visiting in Syria, echoed Meshaal’s position in a speech at a refugee camp. He said the Palestinians will not give up on “even one grain of sand of Palestine,” and that Syrian President Assad promised him that all the Palestinian [terrorist] prisoners incarcerated in Israel would be freed.

Bible Desecrated in Melbourne, Christians Riot

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Thousands of Christians poured into the streets after church services Sunday on word that a Bible had been desecrated at a nearby Islamic school. Burning cars, smashing windows, the rioters…um excuse me, the youths, chanted “Death to the wombat” and “Behead the wombat”.
At the time of this report, it has not been determined what role the wombat played in the Bible desecration, but one rioter…um excuse me, youth, believed that the wombat used to be an auto mechanic at the local garage and was seen using the toilet facilities there. When questioned as to why this act implicated the wombat in the Bible desecration, the “youth” was unable to explain any direct correlation, but instead yelled “Death to the wombat” and “Behead the wombat” several more times before rejoining the riot…um, excuse me, the somewhat glass littered and smoky demonstration.

Oh wait, this didn’t actually happen. I mean, yes a Bible was desecrated by several Muslim students from the local Islamic school, but no, the Christians did not riot and destroy things.
No wombats were killed or injured during this riot…um excuse me, demonstration that never actually happened.

TWO Muslim students have been expelled from an Islamic school in Melbourne for urinating and spitting on a Bible and setting it on fire.

The explosive incident has forced the East Preston Islamic College to call in a senior imam to tell its 650 Muslim students that the Bible and Christianity must be respected.

Anxious teachers at the school have also petitioned principal Shaheem Doutie, expressing “grave concern” about an “inculcation of hatred and radical attitudes towards non-Muslims” at the school, including towards non-Muslim teachers.

The Bible desecration took place last week at a school camp held near Bacchus Marsh, about 50km west of Melbourne, attended by 33 teenage Muslim boys ranging in age from Year7 to Year 10.

A school report of the incident, obtained by The Australian, says it happened late at night and involved three students and another two watching.

“The main perpetrator (a Year 7 student) urinated on the Holy Bible, tore some pages from the Holy Book and burnt them then finally spat on the Holy Book,” the report says.

The second boy, from Year 9, “tore pages from the Holy Book and burnt them”, while a third student, from Year 7, “tore pages from the Holy Bible and then he rolled it up like a cigarette and pretended to smoke it”.

The boys come from a variety of ethnic Muslim backgrounds — one is believed to be an Albanian/Malaysian, another Lebanese and another Indonesian.

Offering Video, Israel Answers Critics on War

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

I can appreciate Israel going to all of this trouble to absolve themselves of the so-call “war crimes” tag that they’ve had hung around their necks, but it is worth it?
I mean the world has already made up its mind that Israel is evil and terrorist are good. They have already tried and convicted Israel before Israel even opens its mouth.
The bottom line is, terrorist get a free pass to kill innocent civilians in Israel while causing the deaths of innocent civilians in their host country, while Israel is expected to sit back and allow itself to be destroyed without lifting a finger.

JERUSALEM, Dec. 4 — Israel’s military, which has been accused of abuses in its war against Hezbollah this summer, has declassified photographs, video images and prisoner interrogations to buttress its accusation that Hezbollah systematically fired from civilian neighborhoods in southern Lebanon and took cover in those areas to shield itself from attack.

Lebanon and international human rights groups have accused Israel of war crimes in the 34 days of fighting in July and August, saying that Israel fired into populated areas and that civilians accounted for a vast majority of the more than 1,000 Lebanese killed.

Israel says that it tried to avoid civilians, but that Hezbollah fired from civilian areas, itself a war crime, which made those areas legitimate targets.

In a new report, an Israeli research group says Hezbollah stored weapons in mosques, battled Israelis from inside empty schools, flew white flags while transporting missiles and launched rockets near United Nations monitoring posts.

The detailed report on the war was produced by the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center at the Center for Special Studies, a private research group headed by Reuven Erlich, a retired colonel in military intelligence, who worked closely with the Israeli military.

An advance copy was given to The New York Times by the American Jewish Congress, which has itself fought against the use of “human shields,” provided consultation and translated the study.

In Lebanon, a Hezbollah official denied the study’s allegations, saying its military units were based outside towns and villages and had come into populated areas only when circumstances required it. “We tried to avoid having to fight among civilian areas, but when Israeli troops entered villages, we were automatically forced to fight them from inside these villages to defend it,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on military matters.

Israel’s critics charge that its military either singled out civilians or was reckless in its pursuit of Hezbollah. The new report is an attempt to rebut such criticism.

The report includes Israeli Air Force video that it says shows several instances of Hezbollah personnel firing rockets next to residential buildings in southern Lebanon and then being bombed by Israel. The adjacent buildings were presumably damaged, but there is no information on whether civilians were inside.

“This study explains the dilemma facing the Israeli military as it fights an enemy that intentionally operates from civilian areas,” Mr. Erlich said. “This is the kind of asymmetric warfare we are seeing today. It’s not only relevant to Lebanon, but is also what we are seeing in the Gaza Strip and in Iraq.”

The report says: “The construction of a broad military infrastructure, positioned and hidden in populated areas, was intended to minimize Hezbollah’s vulnerability. Hezbollah would also gain a propaganda advantage if it could represent Israel as attacking innocent civilians.”

In video from July 23, a truck with a multi-barreled missile launcher, presumably from Hezbollah, is parked in a street, sandwiched between residential buildings. The video was transmitted from an Israeli missile approaching the truck. The screen goes fuzzy as the missile slams into the target.

In another video, from a Lebanese village, rockets are seen being fired from a launcher on the back of a truck. The truck then drives a short distance and disappears inside a building. Seconds later, the building itself disappears under a cloud of smoke from an Israeli bomb.

The report says that there were many such examples, and that Hezbollah has been preparing for such an engagement for years, embedding its fighters and their weapons in the Shiite villages of southern Lebanon. When Hezbollah fired its rockets from those areas, Israel faced a choice of attacking, and possibly causing civilian casualties, or refraining from shooting because of the risk, the report said.

Elias Hanna, a retired Lebanese Army general, said of the Israeli allegations, “Of course there are hidden invisible tunnels, bunkers of missile launchers, bunkers of explosive charges amongst civilians.”

He added: “You cannot separate the southern society from Hezbollah, because Hezbollah is the society and the society is Hezbollah. Hezbollah is holding this society together through its political, military and economic services. It is providing the welfare for the south.”

Asked whether Hezbollah should be seen as responsible for the deaths of Lebanese civilians in the war, he replied: “Of course Hezbollah is responsible. But these people are ready to sacrifice their lives for Hezbollah. If you tell them, ‘Your relative died,’ they will tell you ‘No, he was a martyr.’ The party’s military preparations from 2000 till 2006 took place in their areas. They were of course done with complete secrecy, but in accordance with the civilians.”
