“How Vexed Are You?” by Terry James

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

A friend e-mailed the other day with a statement I found quite interesting. The person, a citizen of Australia, first reported the catastrophic wildfires burning in her country. She informed that many of these are set by arsonists. The few and far between rains have, she wrote, been mostly along the coasts, and when the rain falls further inland, most have missed the catchment areas, the basins for catching and storing rain water. The situation is dire, due to many months of drought-exacerbated fires. Much prayer is needed to bring God’s intervention into the situation.

She then said the following, which particularly got my attention:

“We are not only facing a water and fire crisis and a future food shortage. The increase in violence has been great in the last few years. Regular home invasions, street killings and drive-by shootings were not heard of over 5 years ago here in Sydney. The increase in terrorist threats, racial hatred, etc., all add up to an uncertain and unstable future. Despite all this, people have still been flocking to the New Year’s store sales and going on holidays. (School resumes here at the end of January). There is little fear of God or desire to return to godly morals. It is disturbing to me how blind and rebellious, are the people of this nation…”

My friend then thanked me for prayers for her country, then said:

“I’m now praying Lord Jesus please come soon. I’m more than ready to leave. I’m spiritually tired and I am constantly upset by the wickedness that surrounds me each day…”

My thoughts turned immediately to one word that is seldom used in modern times to describe total exasperation with life’s circumstances. The word was used in reference to Lot, during his time living in the infamous ancient city of Sodom. My friend’s words: “I’m spiritually tired and I am constantly upset by the wickedness that surrounds me each day,” were substantially the feelings of Abraham’s nephew, Lot, just before the Lord rained wrath upon Sodom.

The Apostle Peter wrote about this, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

“For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished” (2 Pet. 2: 4-9).

Jesus prophesied that it will be just like those days of Lot in Sodom, just before He comes to take His Church to Heaven.

“Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed” (Lk. 17:28-30).

My friend in Australia is not alone in the frustration she feels. Looking around us today, I certainly do get vexed, don’t you?

Horror stories inundate our hourly news. More and more those reports involve the most heinous type of activity. Pedophiles and other perverts seem to be proliferating within our supposedly “civilized” society. Terrorism is on the rise, while most Americans seem to be happy with their shopping trips and living in their bubbles of relative affluence. Children are murdered in the womb for convenience, then their remains are sought for use to prop up the rest of us lucky enough to have survived the abortionists.

Israel is at the center of world controversy –even hatred—and no one seems to make the correlation between the fact and the lateness of this prophetic hour.

The name of Jesus is becoming hated and mocked, while false teachers and false gods are aggrandized by Satan-controlled news and entertainment media. It’s all, well, vexing. This is a sure sign we must be nearing that moment Christ will call us to be with Him forever. Certainly, while we must be reaching those around us with the message that Jesus Christ is the only salvation for them, it is time that those who belong to Christ look for the Blessed Hope (Titus 2: 13).

US Military Strike on Iran by April 2007?

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

KUWAIT CITY: Washington will launch a military strike on Iran before April 2007, say sources. The attack will be launched from the sea and Patriot missiles will guard all oil-producing countries in the region, they add. Recent statements emanating from the United States indicate the Bush administration’s new strategy for Iraq doesn’t include any proposal to make a compromise or negotiate with Syria or Iran. A reliable source said President Bush recently held a meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice and other assistants in the White House where they discussed the plan to attack Iran in minute detail. According to the source, Vice President Dick Cheney highlighted the threat posed by Iran to not only Saudi Arabia but the whole region. “Tehran is not playing politics. Iranian leaders are using their country’s religious influence to support the aggressive regime’s ambition to expand,” the source quoted Dick Cheney as saying. Indicating participants of the meeting agreed to impose restrictions on the ambitions of Iranian regime before April 2007 without exposing other countries in the region to any danger, the source said “they have chosen April as British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said it will be the last month in office for him. The United States has to take action against Iran and Syria before April 2007.” Claiming the attack will be launched from the sea and not from any country in the region, he said “the US and its allies will target the oil installations and nuclear facilities of Iran ensuring there is no environmental catastrophe or after effects.” “Already the US has started sending its warships to the Gulf and the build-up will continue until Washington has the required number by the end of this month,” the source said. “US forces in Iraq and other countries in the region will be protected against any Iranian missile attack by an advanced Patriot missile system.”

Human ID Implant To Be unveiled Soon

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

A working prototype of an implant designed to monitor the physiology and whereabouts of human wearers, known as Digital Angel®, is scheduled to be unveiled in October at an invitation-only event in New York City — two months ahead of schedule. Developed by Applied Digital Solutions, the device is said to be the first-ever operational combination of bio-sensor technology and Web-enabled wireless telecommunications linked to global positioning satellite location-tracking systems. Applied Digital Solutions Chairman Richard Sullivan said the development of the technology has progressed well ahead of schedule. “We’re extremely heartened by the remarkable progress made by Dr. Peter Zhou and his entire research team, including professors and their associates at Princeton University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology,” said Sullivan. “This technology relates directly to the exploding wireless marketplace. We’ll be demonstrating for the first time ever that wireless telecommunications systems and bio-sensor devices — capable of measuring and transmitting critical body function data — can be successfully linked together with GPS (global positioning satellite) technology and integrated with the Internet.” As previously reported in WorldNetDaily, Digital Angel® is intended to serve a number of functions. In addition to locating missing persons and monitoring physiological data, the device will be marketed to the world of e-commerce as a means of verifying online consumer identity. Similar to microchip technologies currently used as electronic ID tags for pets, Digital Angel® is a dime-sized implant, inserted just under the skin. When implanted within a human body, the device is powered electromechanically through the movement of muscles and can be activated either by the “wearer” or by a monitoring facility. Applied Digital Solutions is also exploring avenues for utilizing Digital Angel® without implanting it. “We are currently talking to a watch maker who is interested in placing the device on the back of their watches,” Sullivan told WorldNetDaily. “In addition, technology is being developed that would allow Digital Angel® to function from the back of a cellular phone, transmitting bio-sensor information when carried by the user.” While estimates of Digital Angel®’s marketplace potential vary, Sullivan and Applied Digital’s partners believe they can enter the implant into a multi-billion dollar market through various licensing arrangements, Web-enabled wireless services and data transactions handled by Applied Digital’s Application Service Provider center. Those attending the event in New York City will see a working, multimedia demonstration of the implant.

Pornography: The Real Perversion By: Dinesh D’Souza

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

This article is interesting and I believe the final sentence to be so true. Read the entire thing and see if you agree.

On a recent trip to Istanbul I encountered a group of Muslim students who insisted that American culture was morally perverse. They called it “pornographic.” And they charged that this culture is now being imposed on the rest of the world. I protested that pornography is a universal vice. “Yes,” one of the students replied, “but nowhere else is pornography in the mainstream of the culture. Nowhere else is porn considered so cool and fashionable. Pornography in America represents an inversion of values.”

As I returned home to the United States, I wondered: are these students right? I don’t think American culture as a whole is guilty of the charge of moral depravity. But there is a segment of our culture that is perverse and pornographic, and perhaps this part of American culture is the one that foreigners see. Wrongly, they identify one face of America with the whole of America. When they protest what they see as the glamorization of pornography and vice, however, it’s hard to deny that they have a point.

Google Earth Map Marks Temple Mount Palestinian

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Media Bias even shows up in Google. Check this out:

JERUSALEM – While Jerusalem serves as Israel’s capital, and the Temple Mount is located within Israeli sovereignty, the popular satellite map program Google Earth divides the city and places the Mount – Judaism’s holiest site – within Palestinian territory.

Interactive Google Earth maps mark eastern sections of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount as “occupied territory,” set to become part of a future Palestinian state.

Google Earth states it demarcates its maps according to international standards, but no Israeli-Palestinian negotiations – even the failed Camp David final-status negotiations in 2000 – ever placed the Temple Mount within Palestinian territory.

The United Nations considers eastern sections of Jerusalem, recaptured by Israel during the 1967 Six Day War, to be “disputed.” The Israeli Knesset officially annexed the entire city of Jerusalem as its capital in 1980.

“Google Earth is reinforcing lies,” Rabbi Chaim Rechman, director of the international department at Israel’s Temple Institute, told WND.

“The Muslims have engaged in a systemic campaign to re-write history and erase any traces of Judaism from the Temple Mount in total disregard to all actual archeological and historic evidence,” he continued.” Now Google Earth has given in to this campaign.”

Jerusalem first was divided into eastern and western sections when Jordan invaded and occupied the city and the Temple Mount area in 1947, expelling all Jewish inhabitants. Israel originally built its capital in the western part of the city, while the eastern quarters remained under Jordanian control until Israel regained them in 1967.

‘Racist Israel stealing Palestinian water’

Google Earth does not limit its input in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to Jerusalem alone.

The Gaza Strip is labeled by Google Earth as “Israeli occupied,” even though the Jewish state withdrew from Gaza in August 2005., a UK-based Jewish website, pointed out an interactive Google Earth map of an Israeli community in the northern West Bank features integrated user comments implying Jews are stealing water from neighboring Palestinians.

A posting on a Google map next to the town of Kiryat Arba, near the ancient city of Hebron, states: “Note the well-tended lawns in a region deprived of water.”

Clicking on a weblink in the posting brings the user to a site stating, “The principal reason for the water shortage is an unfair distribution of water resources shared by Israel and the Palestinians.”

The posting decries Israel’s purported water-confiscation practices as “illegal” and “racist,” even though dozens of major Israeli aquifers, many run by the Jewish National Fund, purify water running through Palestinian cities and return the cleaned water to the Palestinian towns.

Comments on other Google Earth images claim Israel plans to divide parts of Bethlehem, even though no such plan exist.

Google Earth is also accused of showing falsified images. Visitors to Google Earth who click on an area just outside Jerusalem can view a computer-generated image claiming to depict an Israeli missile factory.

Israeli defense officials told WND the “missile factory” is a fabrication.

Google Earth could not immediately be reached for comment since its corporate offices were closed today in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

A Google spokeswoman previously told comments and pictures on satellite maps can be switched off if visitors don’t want to see them. She said the company would investigate the offending postings.

Referring to Google erroneously labeling the Gaza Strip as occupied, the spokeswoman said, “Borders and place names are not always updated straightaway. Occasionally there are discrepancies. We are happy to receive feedback and will pass it on to the Google Earth team and take the necessary steps.”

Terror leader: ‘Congratulations to Google Earth’

Mort Klein, president of the Zionist Organization of America, accused Google Earth of encouraging terrorism.

“When the Arab terrorists see Google Earth’s falsification of geographic realities, they will be appeased and encouraged because these kinds of lying maps send the message that their disinformation campaigns and their terrorism work,” Klein told WND.

Indeed, Abu Nasser, second-in-command of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terror group, said he was “thrilled” by Google Earth’s depictions.

“Congratulations to Google Earth,” Abu Nasser told WND.

“We congratulate Google and the American people in making this very important change in the Middle East. The Al Aqsa Mosque (located on the Temple Mount) is part of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem is part of Palestine. If such a big institution like Google corrected these historical mistakes on maps, maybe we can bring about a change in the depictions of Palestine by the American media, which is controlled by the Zionists.”

According to Abu Nasser, whose terror group says it is trying to liberate the Al Aqsa Mosque, the Jewish Temple “never existed.”

“At least not on the area Jews now call the Temple Mount.,” he said. “Maybe a Temple existed somewhere, but not in Jerusalem. The Temple Mount exists only in the imaginations of the Jews and Americans.”

Abu Nasser’s Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades is the declared “military wing” of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party. The Brigades, together with the Islamic Jihad terror group, has taken responsibility for every suicide bombing in Israel the past two years, including an attack in Tel Aviv in April that killed American teenager Daniel Wultz and nine Israelis.

The revelation’s about Google Earth’s Mideast map follow media reports this week insurgents in Iraq are using Google’s satellite imagery to attack British bases and troops.

Intelligence sources quoted by Britain’s Daily Telegraph said raids of insurgents last week found printouts of Google satellite photographs of British bases, including details such as toiled blocks, Land Rover parking, and tented areas.

One of the photographs, taken of a hotel housing a British regiment, had the camp’s longitude and latitude written on the back, the newspaper said.

“This is evidence, as far as we are concerned, for planning terrorist attacks,” an intelligence officer told The Daily Telegraph. “Who would otherwise have Google Earth imagery of one of our bases?”

A Google spokesman told the newspaper its information could be used for “good and bad.” “Of course we are always ready to listen to governments’ requests,” he said.

Lobby Reform Bill Would Stifle Free Speech, Say Advocacy Groups

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

If you have not called your Senator to oppose the “Lobbying Transparency and Accountability Act of 2007”, then you need to do so today. Do not let this bill pass. – Railing against the lobbying reform bill scheduled for a vote on Tuesday, several conservative groups say the bill will stifle the free speech rights of grassroots organizations.

A similar bill was introduced last year but did not pass. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) reintroduced the legislation on Jan. 8.

“Now that the new Congress is underway, we need to get down to business and show Americans that we are responding to their call for change,” said Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wisc.), who introduced the 2006 bill.

“We now have the opportunity to give the American people what they deserve and demanded in November – real ethics and lobbying reform that holds their elected officials to the highest ethical standards,” he said.

But many take issue with section 220 of the Lobbying Transparency and Accountability Act of 2007, which requires “disclosure of paid efforts to stimulate grassroots lobbying.”

“Section 220 is a direct assault on the first amendment and the right of citizens to freely petition their government for a redress of grievances,” said Rev. Louis Sheldon, chairman of the Traditional Values Coalition, in a statement.

“This legislation will place onerous reporting requirements on individuals and organizations that lobby our national leaders on issues of importance to them. And, it will impose draconian fines – including potential criminal penalties – for failure to obey these new lobby restrictions,” Sheldon added.

He noted that the bill would “target any organization with more than 500 supporters or if a communication reaches 500 or more individuals. Those affected include every blogger, every church, every non-profit or any group that uses direct mail, telephone calls, newspaper or print ads, paid organizers, radio and TV ads and Internet communications.”

According to Sheldon, the reporting requirements would place “incredible financial and time burdens on grassroots groups.”

“This cleverly-written section doesn’t directly assault free speech, but it creates a climate of fear that chills free speech,” he said. “The curious thing about this legislation is that it exempts labor unions, corporations and even foreign companies from these reporting requirements. Yet, these are the entities that are most likely to engage in unethical lobbying activities – not small grassroots groups.”

According to the conservative advocacy group, the Free Speech Coalition, the bill “would target and restrict the First Amendment rights of citizens on an unprecedented and needless basis.”

“There is no correlation between the fundamental rights being targeted by this and similar bills and the real ethics and corruption problems in Washington,” the group said, adding that the bill “would only further corruption, not reduce it.”

Critics See ‘Slippery Slope’ in Reintroduced Federal ‘Hate Crimes’ Law

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

( – As the new Democratic majority continues its 100-hour legislative blitz in the U.S. House, one Democrat has quietly reintroduced controversial legislation that would give the federal government more authority over so-called “hate crimes.”

On Jan. 5, Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee of Texas introduced a bill that would create federal guidelines for the sentencing of violent criminals who were “motivated by the actual or perceived race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or disability of the victim.”

It expands the scope of current federal hate crime law, which extends federal oversight to crimes that prevent the victim from engaging in a federally protected right – such as voting – and that are motivated on the basis of race, color, religion or nationality.

The new bill expands the definition of a hate crime to include sexual orientation, gender and disability and allows for any violent crime to be considered a hate crime regardless of whether is affects a victim’s ability to engage in a federally protected right.

According to the bill, Congress has the authority to oversee hate crimes because of its constitutional powers to supervise interstate commerce. “Such violence affects interstate commerce in many ways,” the bill states, and “instrumentalities of interstate commerce are used to facilitate the commission of such violence.”

Now here is the crux of why I don’t support this bill.

Opponents of the bill believe it threatens free speech by opening the door for legislation aimed at curbing offensive speech.

The National Prayer Network (NPN), a group that encourages Christians to pray for the country, calls the bill “the most dangerous legislation ever to come before Congress” and charges that “it leads directly to an end of free speech.”

The bill specifically addresses violent crimes that result in bodily harm, but NPN Director Ted Pike said it “sets us on a slippery slope” toward limiting speech that is offensive to the protected groups.

Pike told Cybercast News Service the bill “is not as far-reaching in its formative state” as hate crimes legislation in Canada that has been used to limit criticism of homosexuality.

“But it does set up a bias-oriented federal justice system … and it can inevitably be broadened to involve speech crimes as well as physical crimes,” Pike argued.

“It will be up to judges … to begin to interpret and adjudicate from the bench and inevitably they broaden out the definition of a hate crime,” he added.

Opponents of the bill also insist that hate crimes are not a serious enough matter for Congress to address.

According to data collected from local law enforcement agencies by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, there were 7,163 incidents of hate crimes in 2005. More than half of the crimes were motivated by race. Fewer than one in five were motivated by religion or sexual orientation.

In my opinion, all crimes are “hate crimes”, committed when people do evil things and fail to look to God as their moral guiding force.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day – January 27, 2007

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Join me in remembering the millions of Jews who died at the hands of the Nazi’s.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day
A day for the Church in Europe to Learn from History

January 27 has been declared the International Holocaust Remembrance Day both by the European Union and the United Nations.
The objective

The objective of this initiative is to make the week leading up to January 27 also a week of remembrance, and pro-active action against anti-Semitism, for the church in Europe. What role did the church play in Europe in the 1930’s? What role could we play today in order NOT to repeat the mistakes of the past? Are the Jewish people still threatened to destruction today? Listen to some voices from 2006.

* Iranian president Ahmadinejad openly questioning the existence of Holocaust and asking for Israel to be “wiped off the map”
* Norwegian award winning author Jostein Gaardner stating that “Israel has lost its right to exist”
* Protesters in the streets of Europe asking for “Death to the Jews”
* The Palestinian Hamas lead government calling for “the destruction of Israel” Sadly to say. The old lies of the past are still being repeated in Europe today and even the historical facts of the Holocaust are denied, questioned and put in to doubt.

What can we do about it?

* Raise awareness in our church communities in Europe. History shows that not even Christians are immune against the deadly virus of anti-Semitism.
* Inform and educate the church about the Holocaust but also about the parallels to our time when world leaders are again calling for the destruction of the Jewish state and anti-Semitism is on the rise in Europe.
* Speak out about the dangers of anti-Semitism and anti-Israelisms in the corridors of power in the European Union and in our national capitals. Today European Coalition for Israel and its member organisations are providing Christians with a platform to speak out and take action effectively.

How can you take part in this campaign?

Make the International Holocaust Day a day of remembrance in your church. Take a moment in the Sunday service on January 28 to pray and raise awareness of the lessons of the past and the challenges of today. “Learn from History” will provide you with speaking points, background material and a DVD about how Christians today are raising their voices against anti-Semitism and are promoting better relations between Europe and Israel.

You can also organise a special event to commemorate the victims of Shoah. The website will provide you with material on how you can do this practically.

Sign up today – adopt January 27 as a day of remembrance in your church. Our goal is to have churches in each 25 member states signing up to take part in the campaign. During the Remembrance event we will also provide you with an opportunity to financially support the work which is today carried out by European Coalition for Israel to fight anti-Semitism and improve relations between Europe and Israel.

Website “Learn from History”

The multilingual website has now been launched and will shortly contain more resources

* Introduction to the Holocaust week (this page)
* Downloadables such as speaking points, background facts, outline for sermons etc (coming soon)
* A special section where each church can add their name to pledge that “we want to learn from history” (coming soon)

The “Learn from History” campaign is being initiated by the European Coalition for Israel in collaboration with a leadership team consisting of the following pastors:

* Colin Dye, Pastor, Kensington Temple London, United Kingdom
* Ulf Ekman, Pastor, Word of Life, Uppsala, Sweden
* Ingolf Ellssel, Pastor and Chairman of Pentecostal European Fellowship
* Johannes Fichtenbauer, Chief Deacon, Catholic Diocease of Vienna, Austria
* Willem Glashouwer, Reverend, Reformed Church of the Netherlands, Chairman ECI
