Thursday, January 17th, 2008

But when he (Peter) saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Matthew 14:30-31 (King James Version)

Jesus Walks on Water

“I believe that this representation of Jesus reaching out to a doubting Peter, also symbolizes Jesus reaching out to all who are sinking in a sea of sin.”

Hillary Clinton’s Lies, A Reminder

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

And just in case anyone has forgotten…

It has often been speculated the former first lady would make a bid for the White House, but in two interviews Sunday, she said she had “no intention” to run for president in 2008 — and would turn down invitations to run in 2004.

Clinton said she is enjoying her current political role as a senator for New York.

“I don’t have any intentions or plans for running,” Clinton told ABC’s Barbara Walters. “I’m flattered the question gets asked. I hope that it will lead to a woman running for president.”

Asked what she would say if Democrats asked her to run in 2004, she said, “Absolutely, I would say no.”

And also…

On a different topic, Clinton once again eschewed any interest in the vice presidential slot on the Democratic ticket this year, saying she would turn down Sen. John Kerry, the presumed nominee, if he asked her to be his running mate.

“I’m so happy being senator from New York right now. I love my life. I love my job. I want to see it through,” Clinton said. “The people of New York took a chance on me, and I’m well aware of that.

“I said I wouldn’t run, and I really mean it. I’m not going to run.”

The Shame Of Groveling For $100 Oil

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

In an unseemly act of desperation during his first visit to Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil producer, President Bush openly pleaded with King Abdullah to help raise OPEC production and tame energy prices.

“It would be helpful,” Bush suggested, noting that $100-a-barrel oil could tip the U.S. economy into recession. His plea was summarily rebuffed. “We will raise production when the market justifies it,” the Saudi oil minister sniffed.

Adding to the humiliation, Bush just hours earlier delivered a major arms sale to the oil-rich kingdom. The $20 billion package, which Congress must approve, includes 900 smart-bomb kits that will lend Saudi highly accurate targeting abilities that could threaten Israel.

All the begging and bribing only proved Saudi Arabia still has us over a barrel of oil — and in the cross hairs of Islamic extremists, we might add.

Despite rhetoric about our so-called ally’s cooperation in the war on terror, it’s still teaching anti-Western hatred in its textbooks and schools, still spreading radical Wahhabism to our shores, still freeing terrorists, still giving immunity to al-Qaida financiers such as Yasin Kadi, and still allowing clerics to rally Saudi’s sons to join the al-Qaida insurgents in Iraq.

In fact, Saudi nationals account for the largest share of foreign al-Qaida fighters in Iraq, according to a study released by the U.S. Military Academy. Of the foreign terrorists entering Iraq between August 2006 and August 2007, 41% were Saudi citizens, and most of them were students. They had signed up to be suicide bombers, just like the 15 young Saudi men who attacked America.

Not much has changed in Saudi Arabia over the past six years. Only now, it’s richer than ever, flush with petrodollars that are helping finance the jihad. Which means Americans are helping finance their own destruction every time they go to the pumps.

Given this chain of events — the bigger bankrolling of jihad, along with a looming recession — the mind boggles that our government’s only recourse is to genuflect before oil sheiks.

This not only projects weakness to a part of the world that hates us. It also confirms to our enemy that we have no better options for resolving high energy prices than to go hat in hand to their suppliers and beg for mercy.

We’ve argued in the past, and are still convinced, that popping the lid on Alaskan and Gulf drilling would puncture at least the “war premium” built into crude prices over tensions in Iraq and now Iran. That, in turn, would lower prices at the pump.

New Survey Says Most Americans Disbelieve News Media

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I was happy to see the results of this survey. It shows that people are waking up to the fact, although slowly, that the news media is biased and attempts to negatively manipulate the public.

SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY NEWS

AMERICANS SLAM NEWS MEDIA ON BELIEVABILITY

Americans see:

* Growing media attempts to influence public opinion and policieS
* Poor quality
* A strong liberal bent in most media
* Fox News, CNN and NBC as the most accurate

FAIRFIELD, Conn.—A Sacred Heart University Poll found significantly declining percentages of Americans saying they believe all or most of media news reporting. In the current national poll, just 19.6% of those surveyed could say they believe all or most news media reporting. This is down from 27.4% in 2003. Just under one-quarter, 23.9%, in 2007 said they believe little or none of reporting while 55.3% suggested they believe some media news reporting.

“The fact that an astonishing percentage of Americans see biases and partisanship in their mainstream news sources suggests an active and critical consumer of information in the U.S.” stated James Castonguay, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of SHU’s Department of Media Studies & Digital Culture. “The availability of alternative viewpoints and news sources through the Internet no doubt contributes to the increased skepticism about the objectivity of profit-driven news outlets owned by large conglomerates,” he continued.

The perception is growing among Americans that the news media attempts to influence public opinion – from 79.3% strongly or somewhat agreeing in 2003 to 87.6% in 2007.

And, 86.0% agreed (strongly or somewhat) that the news media attempts to influence public policies – up from 76.7% in 2003.

Americans surveyed provided poor ratings for the national news media on six different characteristics measured. The average overall positive rating across all six characteristics measured was 33.4%. The highest positive rating, 40.7%, was recorded for quality of reporting followed by accuracy of reporting at 36.9% and keeping any personal bias out of stories (33.3%).

Other low positive ratings included: fairness (31.3%), presenting an even balance of views (30.4%) and presenting negative and positive news equally (27.5%).

“Americans know bias and imbalance when they see it and they don’t like it. When most service organizations strive for consumer satisfaction ratings in the high eighties to low nineties, an overall positive rating of 40.7% is dismal,” said Jerry C. Lindsley, director of the Sacred Heart University Polling Institute. He added, “Americans know that it’s just not that hard to present both sides and keep personal bias at home.”

By four-to-one margins, Americans surveyed see The New York Times (41.9% to 11.8%) and National Public Radio (40.3% to 11.2%) as mostly or somewhat liberal over mostly or somewhat conservative.

By a three-to-one margin, Americans see news media journalists and broadcasters (45.4% to 15.7%) as mostly or somewhat liberal over mostly or somewhat conservative.

And, by a two-to-one margin, Americans see CNN (44.9% to 18.4%) and MSNBC (38.8% to 15.8%) as mostly or somewhat liberal over mostly or somewhat conservative.

ACLU: Sex in Public Restroom Stalls is Private

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I was hoping this story was a spoof, but much to my dismay, I discovered that it is all to true.
Does the ACLU have to represent every degenerate, anti-family, anti-Christian thing that comes along? Sometimes I fee like they have a photo of Satan at the head of their board room with the caption “Our Founder” under it.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – In an effort to help Sen. Larry Craig, the American Civil Liberties Union is arguing that people who have sex in public bathrooms have an expectation of privacy.

Craig, of Idaho, is asking the Minnesota Court of Appeals to let him withdraw his guilty plea to disorderly conduct stemming from a bathroom sex sting at the Minneapolis airport.

The ACLU filed a brief Tuesday supporting Craig. It cited a Minnesota Supreme Court ruling 38 years ago that found that people who have sex in closed stalls in public restrooms “have a reasonable expectation of privacy.”

That means the state cannot prove Craig was inviting an undercover officer to have sex in public, the ACLU wrote.

The Republican senator was arrested June 11 by an undercover officer who said Craig tapped his feet and swiped his hand under a stall divider in a way that signaled he wanted sex. Craig has denied that, saying his actions were misconstrued.

The ACLU argued that even if Craig was inviting the officer to have sex, his actions wouldn’t be illegal.

“The government cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Senator Craig was inviting the undercover officer to engage in anything other than sexual intimacy that would not have called attention to itself in a closed stall in the public restroom,” the ACLU wrote in its brief.

The ACLU also noted that Craig was originally charged with interference with privacy, which it said was an admission by the state that people in the bathroom stall expect privacy.

Craig at one point said he would resign but now says he will finish his term, which ends in January 2009.

Teen, Killed By Dad in Muslim ‘Honor Killing’, Cried “I’m Dying” to 911 Operators

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

We have blogged repeatedly about these two young ladies, who were killed by their father in an “honor killing”. Now authorities have released portions of the 911 tapes. It is heart breaking to listen to the 911 tapes and know that their last hours on earth were spent watching their dad, a person they should have been able to trust with their lives, shoot them in cold blood, and leave them to slowly die in agony. Take a look at the faces of these beautiful young women, and think about why they are dead. Their only crimes were to have non-Muslim boyfriends and just trying to fit in.
Here are some facts that the news media is downplaying horribly.
1. The Said’s are Muslims.
2. This was an Honor Killing.
3. The wife and her son are hiding out of fear that they will be killed next.
For those of you who might be new to our blog, we have discussed “honor killing” before. If you are not familiar with them, let me bring you up to speed.
An honor killing occurs when a Muslim male, usually a father, uncle or brother, becomes so enraged by the so-called “un-Islamic” behavior of a female family member, that he takes the law into his own hands and kills her in order to “repair” his “lost” honor. His rage could also involve the deaths of others related to the “offender”.
As with all generalizations, there is a danger with labels. But with that said, I have to point out that the type of behavior shown by this father is, at least within the Muslim community, accepted, if not actually condoned. It is a sound practice, condoned by the Koran. It continues to show us the true colors of Islam.

Irving police have released part of a disturbing 911call from one of two sisters who were shot and left for dead in a taxicab two weeks ago.

Amina Yaser Said, 18, and Sarah Yaser Said, 17, were found dead in a parking lot in Irving on New Year’s Day. The emergency call was made from a cell phone, and police were unable to trace the girls’ location at the time of the call. They were found dead the next morning.

Police are seeking their father, Yaser Abdul Said, 50, in connection with the slayings.

In the 911 call, Sarah can be heard screaming and tells the operator, “I’m dying!”

A $10,000 reward is being offered for the arrest and indictment of Yaser.

The girl’s mother and brother have issued public appeals for him to surrender himself.

Patricia Said, the girls mother, said her husband needed to be brought to justice so that her “girls can rest in peace.”

She and her son plan to remain in hiding until her husband is caught.

Gail Gartrell, the sisters’ great-aunt, said Yaser Said had physically abused the two girls for years. The girls’ mother had recently fled because Yaser Said had threatened to kill the teens when he learned they had boyfriends, Gartrell told a local newspaper.

“She ran with them because she knew he would carry out the threat,” Gartrell said of her niece, Patricia Said. “This was an honor killing.”

However, the girls’ brother, Islam Said, has previously disputed rumors that his father’s Muslim faith might have been the reason for the killings. (he’s a Muslim, what else could he say in order to save his own life? -ed.)

Police have said the family had some previous domestic problems.
