Your Faith Has Healed You

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Then a man named Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.

As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.

Your Faith Has Healed You

“Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.”

But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”

Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”

Actress Makes Mother’s Day Sales Pitch — for Planned Parenthood

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Here’s a celebrity fundraiser that didn’t make headlines. Actress Cynthia Nixon, best known for her role as the red-headed Miranda on the smutty HBO series Sex and the City, made an odd fundraising pitch timed for Mother’s Day. It was an e-mail for Abortion Incorporated: the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. She boldly claimed that motherhood and Planned Parenthood were an obvious match:

I am Cynthia Nixon. I am an actor, an activist, a mom, a daughter. But today, I am writing to you about motherhood, on behalf of Planned Parenthood and the many people they serve.

The truth is, in my book, there is no organization that supports motherhood more than Planned Parenthood..That’s why I’m honoring the moms I know with a gift to Planned Parenthood today.

It’s not easy to be a mother these days. Believe me, I know I’m lucky — I’ve had help and support — including the amazing, strong woman who blazed her own path to raise me as an independent, bold woman.

That’s what Planned Parenthood is all about, too — providing the reproductive health care, education, and advocacy that help women everywhere to be healthy and to thrive. And right now — with more and more women seeking care from Planned Parenthood affiliate health centers — we need to do all we can to support them.

To me, it just makes sense: honor the courageous mothers who are raising kids, often in difficult situations these days, with a gift to the courageous organization that helps so many women.

As Mother’s Day approaches, I am so grateful for the opportunity to make a difference and hope you’ll join me.

This Mother’s Day, you can make your gift in honor of someone you love. And the fine folks at Planned Parenthood will send that special person a special card saying you’ve chosen to make a gift to Planned Parenthood Federation of America in her or his name.

You’ll be making a gift to millions of mothers — and to a generation of daughters and sons. What a profound way to mark this day.

The pitch says nothing about the millions of daughters and sons who have been liquidated in Planned Parenthood facilities.

Obama Says U.S. Long-Term Debt Load ‘Unsustainable’

Friday, May 15th, 2009

The ever duplicitous Emperor Obama, the man who pushed his $3.6 trillion budget, and ridiculed anyone who claimed the debt associated with it was “unsustainable”, has now come out with the clam that the debt needed to pay for his budget is “unsustainable”.
Unbelievable!!

President Barack Obama, calling current deficit spending “unsustainable,” warned of skyrocketing interest rates for consumers if the U.S. continues to finance government by borrowing from other countries.

“We can’t keep on just borrowing from China,” Obama said at a town-hall meeting in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, outside Albuquerque. “We have to pay interest on that debt, and that means we are mortgaging our children’s future with more and more debt.”

Holders of U.S. debt will eventually “get tired” of buying it, causing interest rates on everything from auto loans to home mortgages to increase, Obama said. “It will have a dampening effect on our economy.”

Earlier this week, the Obama administration revised its own budget estimates and raised the projected deficit for this year to a record $1.84 trillion, up 5 percent from the February estimate. The revision for the 2010 fiscal year estimated the deficit at $1.26 trillion, up 7.4 percent from the February figure. The White House Office of Management and Budget also projected next year’s budget will end up at $3.59 trillion, compared with the $3.55 trillion it estimated previously.

Two weeks ago, the president proposed $17 billion in budget cuts, with plans to eliminate or reduce 121 federal programs. Republicans ridiculed the amount, saying that it represented one-half of 1 percent of the entire budget. They noted that Obama is seeking an $81 billion increase in other spending.

“Heard That (Middle East) Song Before” by Cal Thomas

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visits Washington next week and if anyone wants an appropriate song to characterize the buildup to his meeting with President Obama it should be the old Sammy Cahn-Jule Styne number “I’ve Heard That Song Before,” which goes, “It seems to me I’ve heard that song before; it’s from an old familiar score; I know it well, that melody.”

This time there is a twist. King Abdullah of Jordan, in an interview this week with the Times of London, raised the stakes by predicting war if the Palestinian side doesn’t see real progress toward its own state.

Abdullah said a 57-state, not a two-state solution, is what’s needed, which means all Arab and Muslim states, as part of any deal, would need to recognize Israel. Good luck with that.

Last week in London I spoke with Liam Fox, a conservative Member of Parliament and “shadow defense secretary.” Fox told me, “There is a belief in some quarters that if only you can resolve the problems between Israel and Palestine, all the other problems in the Middle East, in a domino-like fashion, will fall into place. That is absolute nonsense.”

Indeed, it is.

Fox said on a recent visit to Iran that Iranian politicians told him they realize they lack an air force to fight back if they are attacked by Israel, so they would use Hezbollah and Hamas. “They are part of our defense policy against Israel,” Fox quoted them as saying, “Hamas is not part of the Palestinian problem. Hamas is the foreign-policy wing of Iran in Israel.”

If words mean anything, consider these from the Hamas Charter: “The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future Muslim generations until Judgment Day. It, or any part of it, should not be squandered: it, or any part of it, should not be given up. … There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.”

Hezbollah has its own charter. It says in part: “Our primary assumption in our fight against Israel states that the Zionist entity is aggressive from its inception, and built on lands wrested from their owners, at the expense of the rights of the Muslim people. Therefore our struggle will end only when this entity is obliterated. We recognize no treaty with it, no cease-fire, and no peace agreements, whether separate or consolidated.”

‘Gay’ Pundit Says ‘Hate Crimes’ Legislation a Scam

Friday, May 15th, 2009

A longtime pundit and supporter of the homosexual lifestyle choice has admitted online that the so-called “Hate Crimes” plan now pending in the U.S. Senate is totally unnecessary, accoding to a report.

“The real reason for hate crime laws is not the defense of human beings from crime. There are already laws against that – and Matthew Shepard’s murderers were successfully prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in a state with no hate crimes law at the time,” wrote Andrew Sullivan in his “Daily Dish” column.

“The real reason for the invention of hate crimes was a hard-left critique of conventional liberal justice and the emergence of special interest groups which need boutique legislation to raise funds for their large staffs and luxurious buildings,” he continued.

“Just imagine how many direct mail pieces have gone out explaining that without more money for [Human Rights Campaign], more gay human beings will be crucified on fences. It’s very, very powerful as a money-making tool – which may explain why the largely symbolic federal bill still hasn’t passed.”

The comments came in an article titled, “Intent vs. Motivation” that discussed the “hate crime” law that has been proposed.

Matt Barber, director of Cultural Affairs with both Liberty Counsel at the Liberty Alliance Action, commended Sullivan, whom he described as “one of the foremost leaders in the homosexual activist movement worldwide,” for admitting S. 909 is “a money making scheme.”

“Well, the cat’s out of the bag,” said Barber. “I almost never, if ever, agree with Andrew Sullivan on anything. But I must give credit where credit is due. Sullivan’s admission that S. 909 is both a ‘symbolic’ and ‘meaningless … money-making tool’ devised by the extremist homosexual lobby is both refreshing and stunning at the same time.”

Barber continued, “I hope Sullivan will now join me in calling for his fellow homosexual activist leaders, such as HRC’s Joe Solmonese, to exhibit the same kind of candor relative to this anti-American ‘hate crimes’ charade, do the honorable thing and come together to request that the Senate withdraw S. 909 from consideration.”

Barber said the plan, already approved in the House and dubbed by many critics the “Pedophile Protection Act,” would chill speech across the nation if approved.

He said lawmakers already have admitted pedophilia and other “sexual orientations” will be given special protection under the plan and, “this should shock the conscience of every man, woman and child.”

Barber also said U.S. senators now are on notice.

“May I be so bold as to suggest you follow Andrew Sullivan’s lead? The line in the sand has been clearly drawn. You are either for pedophiles or against them. You are either for freedom and equal protection under the law or against it. If you vote for S. 909, you might as well plan now to have that potentially career ending millstone permanently tied around your political neck,” concluded Barber.

A hearing on the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, already approved by the U.S. House as H.R. 1913 and pending in the Senate as S. 909, is expected in the Senate Judiciary Committee soon. It’s been described by Shawn D. Akers, policy analyst with Liberty Counsel, as a bill to create penalties against “victims” who were chosen based on an “actual or perceived … sexual orientation, gender identity.”

Many have dubbed it the “Pedophile Protection Act,” and U.S. Reps. Louis Gohmert, R-Texas, and Steve King, R-Iowa, explained how they had tried to have majority Democrats in Congress define “sexual orientation” in the bill – and were refused.

They also tried to add an amendment that would state that pedophiles were not, in fact, protected under the law, and Democrats again voted to reject that idea.

King explained it’s part of the national effort by homosexual activists not to just have the freedom to choose their lifestyle, but to be able to demand approval and likewise condemn those who don’t agree with homosexuality.

First, he said, comes the so-called “hate crimes” law. Then will come the employment non-discrimination concept that says “thou shalt hire people of these proclivities.” Finally, there would come the imposition of nation-wide same-sex marriage combined with speech limits banning any criticism of that.

Gohmert pointed out that Christians and their pastors need especially to be worried because of the bull’s-eye being painted on them by homosexuals.

He said while the “hate crimes” bill says its provisions shouldn’t be used against religious statements, there’s an important word that follows that statement: “Unless.”

That’s unless “the evidence relates to that offense,” he said.

And under existing federal law, someone who “induces” a crime can be tried, convicted and sentenced as the principal.

“When They Say Peace…” by Terry James

Friday, May 15th, 2009

The drumbeat for peace can be heard within the rumblings of strange changes that inflict convulsive crisis after crisis upon this troubled planet. Israel, just as Old and New Testament prophets foretold, is at the heart of the birth-like contractions that have to be deliberately ignored to be missed. Paul the apostle and prophet wrote under inspiration, “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape” (1Thessalonians 5:3).

This prophecy, I’m convinced, is most relevant to this particular hour in these waning days of human history. I believe, as a matter of fact, that this and surrounding Scripture relates directly to the rapture of all believers in Jesus Christ. I will attempt to explain a bit further into this commentary. First, I want us to try to understand exactly where this generation is presently positioned on God’s prophetic timeline.

Israel, which Zechariah the prophet said would become a burdensome stone and cup of trembling to the whole world, is already, in this pre-tribulation era, exactly that at this juncture in the geopolitical scope of things. The Jewish state is at the center of a call for peace that is unlike any such call in history.

Potential for nuclear conflict has diplomats—particularly of the western world–on edge, to put it mildly. Pakistan is in danger of falling to Taliban marauders, such prospects causing great consternation. The thought of Pakistan’s nuclear weaponry in the hands of those who have thrown in their lot with the likes of Osama bin Laden are disconcerting. That Iran is on the precipice of having such weaponry is even more disturbing, and a thing those who cry peace and safety simply cannot and will not tolerate.

Fears of the growing Iranian threat have to some extent brought even the Israelis and the Arabs to the point of talking things over. Jordan’s King Abdullah told a news conference in Berlin, “What we are discussing today is a combined approach of bringing together Arabs, Europeans, and the United States as a team to create the circumstances over the next several months that allow Israelis and Palestinians to sit at the table, but also with Lebanese, Syrians and Arab nations” (“Jordan says new approach to Mideast peace emerging,” by Salah Nasrawi, Associated Press,5/6/09).

So, international negotiators led by the Obama administration are putting unprecedented efforts into coming up with a strategy for peacemaking. Those calling for peace will have to convince the Israeli government and the Arab Islamic nations of the Mideast to agree to do the give-and-take compromises essential to formulating a peace that will defuse war seen as inevitably on the horizon.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, now international Mideast envoy, announced that the Obama administration and others are working on the strategy for peace talks that he expects to be unveiled within six weeks. “ ‘We’re about to get a new framework,’ Blair said late Tuesday. ‘I can only speculate right now about what that framework is going to be. The reason I say people should be more hopeful is that this is a framework that is being worked on at the highest level in the American administration, (and) in the rest of the international community’” (“Blair: New Mideast Peace Plan Unveiled in Weeks,” Newsmax.com, 5/6/09).

Paul’s words of end-times prophecy resound within current headlines. The world’s call for peace and safety just happens to be focused on the one city about which God told Zechariah to issue the Lord’s proclamation: “And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it” (Zechariah 12:3).

The fascinating thing to consider here is that in Bible prophecy the focus of nations on end-times Jerusalem and the call for peace are connected in a way that cannot be denied. Neither can it be realistically denied that the focus on the exigencies of the present, with the international community trying to divide Jerusalem for the sake of “peace,” causes words of concern to leap from hourly news headlines.

Now for something of truly astounding importance to be considered. Please weigh carefully what follows.

The Apostle Paul is the prophet given the duty of laying out the coming of Jesus Christ for believers. The prophecy likens that coming as “a thief in the night” breaking in upon an unsuspecting household. This cannot be the second advent of Revelation 19:11 because the entire world of earth-dwellers who are still alive after the seven years of tribulation will see the coming of the King of kings and Lord of lords. It will not be a stealthy coming, but a glorious re-entry (with the saints accompanying their Lord) into a world about to be destroyed by incorrigibly wicked humanity.

To make the point of the astounding importance of the current cry for peace surrounding Jerusalem and Israel, let’s consider the Scriptures immediately surrounding Paul’s prophecy about “peace and safety”—i.e., let’s look at this block of Scripture in context:

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words. But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-5:4).

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Dobson Condemns ‘Pedophile Protection Act’

Friday, May 15th, 2009

The true colors of the Democrats is more apparent each passing day and our county’s fall continues unabated.

James Dobson, the founder of the Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family Christian ministry, warned today that there is “utter evil” coming out of Washington, D.C., these days.

“I want to tell our listeners something has come up that is so shocking and so outrageous, we must make our friends out there aware of it,” he said on his daily radio program.

“I’m going to speak very bluntly today because there’s no other word for it: the utter evil that’s coming out of Congress,” he said. “I’ve been on the air 32 years and I’ve never seen a time quite like this.

“The radical left controls the executive branch through the president, and the Congress where the Democrats have control of both the House
and the Senate,” he said, adding the courts are expected to move even further to the left.

The target of his worry is the so-called “Hate Crimes” already approved in the U.S. House and now pending in the Senate.

Reps. Louis Gohmert, R-Texas, and Steve King, R-Iowa, explained on Dobson’s program how they had tried to have majority Democrats in Congress define “sexual orientation” in the bill – and were refused.

They also tried to add an amendment that would state that pedophiles were not, in fact, protected under the law, and Democrats again voted to reject that idea.

King explained it’s part of a national effort by homosexual activists not to just have the freedom to choose their lifestyle, but to be able to demand approval and likewise condemn those who don’t agree with homosexuality.

First, he said, comes the so-called “hate crimes” law. Then will come the employment non-discrimination concept that says “thou shalt hire people of these proclivities.” Finally, there would come the imposition of nation-wide same-sex marriage combined with speech limits banning any criticism of that, restrictions that already are in place in Canada..

Gohmert pointed out that Christians and their pastors need especially to be worried because of the bull’s-eye being painted on them by homosexuals.

He said while the “hate crimes” bill says its provisions shouldn’t be used against religious statements, there’s an important word that follows that provision: “Unless.”

That’s unless “the evidence relates to that offense,” he said.

And under existing federal law, someone who “induces” a crime can be tried, convicted and sentenced as the principal. He said that leaves open pastors and Christians to be prosecuted should someone who commits a crime claim to have heard them speaking against homosexuality.

Dobson said such threats to free speech and religious rights “keeps me awake at night.”

He said the Christian community’s response should be a massive prayer campaign.

Gohmert said he sees a future for the United States, iIf we have another awakening. If we don’t, I’m not sure what’s left.”

“Brace for Impact” by Todd Strandberg

Friday, May 15th, 2009

For over 60 years, the United States and Israel have had one of the strongest relationships of any two nations on earth. The ties that bind these two countries are cultural, military, economic, political, and ideological. Strongest among these are the political and military ties.

The United States has had interests in the Middle East dating back to the 1920s. As the U.S. economy became more reliant on oil from the Gulf states, maintaining stability in the region became one of our top concerns.

Another factor that has unified the U.S. and Israel is a common enemy: the Muslim world. There are dozens of Arab terrorist organizations, but they all sing the same chant: “Death to America; Death to Israeli.”

Last November, the citizenry of our nation went to the polls and elected a president who lacked a strong commitment to Israel. Many of Barack Obama’s friends were known for their hatred of Israel. The first call he made to a foreign leader was to Palestinian President Abbas.

I expected that there would be a honeymoon period before things turned sour. Every new president tries to please everyone before finally choosing sides. We are now starting to see signs that the true Obama is starting to emerge.

Several major news stories about the Obama administration have signaled that it’s taking a tougher approach towards Israel. One key issue is getting Israel to endorse the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

The White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel caused a stir when he said the Iran nuclear conflict is linked to the Palestinian issue. Emanuel told members at a pre-Israel lobby meeting that thwarting Iran’s nuclear program is conditional on progress in peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had already warned Israel that it risks losing Arab support for combating threats from Iran if it rejects peace negotiations with the Palestinians. Clinton said Arab nations had considered helping Israel counter Iran on Jerusalem’s commitment to the peace process.

It is amazing how quickly the world has forgotten about the Gaza disaster. As soon as the Israeli military pulled out of the Gaza strip, the Palestinians began firing rockets into southern Israel. A repeat of the same scenario in the West Bank would be ten times worse.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refused to back Palestinian statehood since he took office on March 31. He has also publicly pledged that Israel will never give back the Golan Heights to Syria. Having been burned in the past by failed Palestinian promises, Netanyahu is in no mood to agree to any preconditions.

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich blasted the Obama administration for setting itself on a collision course with Israel and endangering the Jewish state. He called Obama’s program of engagement on Iran a “fantasy,” and his Middle East policies “very dangerous for Israel.” He summed up Obama’s approach as “the clearest adoption of weakness since Jimmy Carter.”

I believe a key reason America has long been the most powerful nation on earth is because of our friendship with Israel. God said to Abraham, “I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee” (Genesis 12:3). After receiving the blessings for many decades, it appears we are about to receive the curse portion of that promise by forcing Israel to trade land for peace.

A natural enmity exists between the followers of Mohammad and the Jewish state. Satan has been using the Arabs as a tool in his plot to destroy Israel. Because of the demonic connection, there is no way any world leader is going to solve this conflict that has raged since Israel was founded.

Next month, Obama plans to make a major speech to the Muslim world in Egypt. He can make all the friends he wants in Middle East, but it’s not going to do any good. Because the president is oblivious to the spiritual angle, the only thing his peace effort will produce is future conflict.

The disintegration of the alliance between the U.S. and Israel is a key factor in prophecy. The Bible says Israel will someday stand alone against its enemies. Until America was removed from the equation, it didn’t seem possible for Russia to attempt an invasion of the Jewish state. The rapture has long been blamed as a key reason for Uncle Sam not being able to prevent the Gog war. We now have indication that it may also be a simple case of our nation’s leaders choosing to sit on their hands.

“So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled” (Matthew 24:33-34).

Pelosi Accuses CIA of ‘Misleading’ Congress on Waterboarding

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Oh my goodness!!! Nan, just admit you lied about it, take you lumps and move on. It’s not like anything really bad is going to happen to you anyway…I mean between a Democrat House, a Democrat Senate and a Democrat President, Nan, you’re not going to get into trouble. So just relax and admit you lied. Everyone will forgive you and let you off the hook. What other choice do we have?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday accused the CIA of misleading Congress about its use of enhanced interrogation techniques on terror detainees.

“Yes I am saying the CIA was misleading the Congress, and at the same time the (Bush) administration was misleading the Congress on weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, to which I said that this intelligence doesn’t support the imminent threat,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference.

“Every step of the way the administration was misleading the Congress and that is the issue and that’s why we need a truth commission,” she said.

Under a barrage of questioning, Pelosi adamantly insisted that she was not aware that waterboarding or other enhanced interrogation techniques were being used on terrorism suspects.

“I am telling you they told me they approved these and said they wanted to use them but said they were not using waterboarding,” she said.

Growing increasingly frustrated throughout the briefing, Pelosi slowly started backing away from the podium as she tried to end the questioning. As she backed out, she continued to accuse the CIA of not telling Congress that dissenting opinions had been filed within the administration suggesting the methods were not lawful.

The CIA immediately disputed Pelosi’s accusation, saying the documents describing the particular enhanced interrogation techniques that had been employed are accurate. CIA spokesman George Little noted that CIA Director Leon Panetta made available to the House Intelligence Committee memos from individuals who led the briefings with House members.

“The language in the chart — ‘a description of the particular EITs that had been employed’ — is true to the language in the agency’s records,” Little said. “The chart I’m referring to is, of course, the list of member briefings on enhanced interrogation techniques.”

Republicans also questioned Pelosi’s charge.

“It’s hard for me to imagine anyone in our intelligence area would ever mislead a member of Congress,” House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said at his weekly news conference. “They come to the Hill to brief us because they’re required to under the law. I don’t know what motivation they would have to mislead anyone.”

The top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., told FOX News that Pelosi’s accusation against the CIA is “not credible.”

“I am afraid she has disremembered what she went through,” he said. “We have had not only the records from the CIA but the contemporaries who were there with her had other views on it, so I am afraid that this is not a credible explanation.”

Pelosi said she was briefed only once on the interrogation methods in September 2002. She acknowledged that her intelligence aide, Michael Sheehy, informed her about another briefing five months later in which Bush officials said waterboarding was being used on CIA terror detainee Abu Zubaydah.

Pelosi said she supported a letter drafted by Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee who also attended the briefing in February 2003, and sent to the Bush administration, raising concerns over the technique.

Pelosi’s account has changed several times in recent weeks as she has sought to clarify what she did or didn’t know about the interrogation methods that she is pushing to investigate.

Pelosi said last month that she was never told that the controversial interrogation methods were being used. But a national intelligence report later showed that she was briefed seven years ago on the tactics while she was on the House Intelligence Committee.

Her spokesman then said the speaker thought the techniques were legal and that waterboarding was not used.

Democrats will hold a series of hearings on Justice Department memos released last month that justified rough tactics against detainees, including waterboarding and sleep deprivation.

While Democrats want the hearings to focus on what they call torture, Republicans have tried to turn the issue to their advantage by complaining that Pelosi and other Democrats knew of the tactics but didn’t protest.
