Power of God

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

Bible Banishment by Court Overturned

Friday, July 17th, 2009

A ruling from U.S. District Court Judge Catherine Perry that singled out the Bible as an “instrument of religion” and banned its distribution in a school has been overturned by the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The case, which has been developing for several years, concerned the activities of the South Iron School District in Missouri, which for years had allowed members of the Gideons to hand out Bibles to fifth-graders.

When the practice was challenged, the board adopted a new neutral policy requiring anyone wishing to hand out materials to submit them to the school for approval. It specifically banished materials in several categories such as commercial advertisements and documents that promote illegal actions. It also provided for an appeal process.

“Under this policy, an outside group may offer Bibles to students who wish to take them in the same manner as other nonreligious groups are permitted to distribute secular literature,” explained Liberty Counsel founder and chairman Mathew Staver, who argued the case before the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis.

However, opponents of the school’s policy continued their protest, and Perry issued a permanent injunction banning the distribution of Bibles in classrooms and also condemned the school’s new policy.

Her decision said the neutral treatment policy toward handouts was unacceptable, because it would allow actual distribution of Bibles.

Her ruling, according to Liberty Counsel, “presented a novel (and unconstitutional) theory that a private third party (like the ACLU) must have the opportunity to veto the distribution request of the private applicant.”

The veto power, the judge wrote, must be provided to veto religious, but not secular, literature, the law firm said.

Staver said the Constitution simply doesn’t allow the Bible to be singled out, like contraband, for special penalties.

“How ironic that in America, until recent times, the Bible formed the basis of education, and now its mere presence is radioactive in the opinion of some judges,” he said when he argued the appeal. “The founders never envisioned such open hostility toward the Christian religion as we see today in some venues. To single out the Bible alone for discriminatory treatment harkens back to the Dark Ages. America deserves better. Our Constitution should be respected, not disregarded.”

But the 8th Circuit decision, which continued a ban on handing out Bibles to students in classrooms, said they could be distributed on the same basis as other handouts.

“Opening the school for expressive conduct to community and student groups serves the secular purpose of providing a forum for an exchange of ideas and social intercourse,” said the opinion.

“We know of no case holding that the creation of a limited public forum was not a secular purpose satisfying [the law],” the judges continued.

The case originated in 2006 when the American Civil Liberties Union sued to stop the Gideons from handing out Bibles. Under the newest court decision, those now can be handed out – just like other materials – from several specific locations in the school.

“We are pleased that the new equal access policy can finally go into effect,” said Staver. “The Founders never envisioned open hostility toward religious viewpoints.”

The appeals court decision said the lower court decision would have precluded the school “from ever creating a limited public forum in which religious materials may be distributed in a constitutional neutral manner.”

Instead, the ruling found, “school officials must remain free to experiment in good faith with new policies to accommodate the tensions between educational objectives … private rights under the Free Exercise Clause, and … the Establishment Clause.”

Staver told WND that under the orders from the district court decision, “The Quran is OK, and other kinds of religious texts; just not the Bible. The Bible alone is impermissible in the public school.”

Among the groups that have distributed material at the school are the Army Corps of Engineers
, Red Cross, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Iron County Health Department, Missouri Water Patrol, Missouri Highland Healthcare and Union Pacific Railroad, officials said.

“The ACLU might not like the fact that equal access also means equal treatment for religious speech, but the Constitution requires equal treatment,” Staver said. “The First Amendment protects private religious viewpoints. Hecklers may heckle but they may not veto private religious speech. … Religious viewpoints have constitutional protection.”

The appeals court opinion said, “The district court wholly ignored the proper initial inquiry, whether the text of the new policy evidences an unconstitutional purpose.”

The Gideons, a group founded in the late 1800s, have as their “sole purpose” the goal “to win men, women, boys and girls to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ through association for service, personal testimony, and distributing the Bible in the human traffic lanes and streams of everyday life.”

Gideons have placed the Bible in 181 nations in 82 different languages.

The organization focuses on hotels, motels, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, colleges, universities, the military, law enforcement, prisons and jails.

“The demand for Scriptures in these areas far exceeds our supplies that we are able to purchase through our donations,” the group said. “Much more could be done – if funds were available. However, we are placing and distributing more than one million copies of the Word of God, at no cost, every seven days.”

The Gideons International is the oldest Christian business and professional men’s association in the U.S.

“Impose Middle East Peace, Save The World” by Michael G. Mickey

Friday, July 17th, 2009

European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana has come up with a plan to cure all the world’s problems it seems, at least the ones Barack Obama isn’t going to. The plan? To have the United Nations impose Middle East peace on Israel and the Palestinians, whether they agree to live in peaceful co-existence or not. The following is an excerpt from a Reuters report on the topic, wherein Solana explains the process he’d like to see occur:

“After a fixed deadline, a U.N. Security Council resolution should proclaim the adoption of the two-state solution,” Solana said, adding this should include border parameters, refugees, control over the city of Jerusalem and security arrangements.

“It would accept the Palestinian state as a full member of the U.N., and set a calendar for implementation. It would mandate the resolution of other remaining territorial disputes and legitimise the end of claims,” Solana went on.

Advocating a return to Israel’s borders before the 1967 war with Egypt, Syria and Jordan in which it took the West Bank, Solana said mediators should set a timetable for a peace agreement.

“If the parties are not able to stick to it (the timetable), then a solution backed by the international community should be put on the table,” he said.

This plan on the part of Solana doesn’t surprise me a great deal because we know, as foretold in bible prophecy, a seven-year covenant of peace is going to be confirmed (or made strong) in the Middle East by a prince (or leader) of Roman descent in accordance with Daniel 9:26-27.

Third party involvement has been the expectation all along where this ongoing conflict in the Middle East is concerned, but the idea that the United Nations would simply decide the future of a sovereign nation, namely Israel, and impose its will on it? Folks, the spirit of Antichrist is alive and well here in 2009.

Adding to the latest drama, reminding us that the revived Roman empire of bible prophecy we commonly refer to as the European Union is going to play a key role in Israel’s future, Syria is calling Israel an obstacle to peace, asking the EU “to pressure Israel into accepting the “necessary terms for peace”” as seen in a Ynetnews article that also includes the following of interest:

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Moallem [Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem] stressed the importance of the EU’s role in achieving a regional agreement based on the “peace for territories” paradigm.

Land for peace. The EU has an important role to play in that coming to pass, according to Syria. Who would’ve guessed?

Lastly, on a number of occasions I’ve highlighted the fact that many of the world’s leaders have come to believe the key to peace on earth becoming a euphoric reality rests solely with Israel making peace with the Palestinians, something which a Jerusalem Post editorial brilliantly addresses as seen in the following analyzation of what Javier Solana apparently thinks by the author:

Like many diplomats and intellectuals, Solana appears to regard a Palestinian state – whose establishment under viable terms, it apparently needs stressing, Israelis support – as some kind of regional cure-all. Reading between the lines, it’s as if he believes that the mullahs in Iran will stop grabbing for regional hegemony, stealing (rigged) elections, and pursuing nuclear weapons; that Arab autocrats will guide their polities toward tolerance and representative government; that Shi’ites and Sunnis will stop blowing each other up; that Kurds, Copts and Baha’is will gain equality.

The Taliban in Afghanistan will liberate women from their burqas; North Africa’s Islamists will lay down their weapons; al-Qaida will disband. And millions of restive, alienated Muslims throughout Europe will find a sense of belonging, allowing tranquility to prevail in the continent’s inner cities… If only the Palestinians had a state.

As we look at bible prophecy, doesn’t all of the above fit like a glove in terms of carrying us forward, closer to the advent of the Antichrist, an event that will be preceded by the rapture of the Church? I certainly think so.

Joel 3:2: I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

Keep looking up!

“Reprobate Minds” by Terry James

Friday, July 17th, 2009

It takes only a quick survey of today’s societal landscape to verify that this generation is well into upside-down thinking. Sanity is always the victim of sin saturation while any society struggles to break free of the Creator’s influence. Paul the apostle wrote of the antediluvians: “And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient…” (Romans 1:28).

With due respect for the family of the just-departed Michael Jackson, the frenetic, worldwide hoopla over the self-proclaimed “King of Pop,” when considered against the infinitely more important news going on at the time, punctuates the insanity infecting this generation. The surrounding madness involved in Jackson’s death swamped news of phenomenal importance for the world, burying such matters as Israel’s getting permission to fly over Saudi Arabia if a strike against Iranian nuclear weapons production facilities becomes necessary.

All mainstream news media—all media, as a matter of fact, dealt with every jot and tittle of the entertainer’s musical history, perverse lifestyle, and death. While men—and now, in this warped world—women, sit incarcerated for crimes of being inappropriate with children, the world worshipped at the casket of a plastic surgery-twisted man who admittedly slept with boys in his strange Neverland bedroom—several of whom testified to his sexual deviancy performed on them.

While a human jury found him not guilty of the charges, it will be up to the final, omniscient jury of one to judge truth in the matter. The reprobate minds of mankind manifest the luciferian sin-venom’s effects through the supposed enlightened education that takes sane thinking ever farther from God. Humanism’s social engineers can’t seem to be able to determine the cause of man’s rage against peaceful comportment.

They refuse to allow God, and particularly the Maker of all things—Jesus Christ—into the classrooms. They venerate and bring into the classroom, instead, purveyors of godless untruth to teach the religion of evolution, which is man-centered, and which has led to the point that man again is told to worship at the altar of the earth. The doctrine of Mother Earth worship—its color is green—can be found bubbling to the surface of every piece of legislation coming out of America and the world’s various bodies politic.

The dogma of evolution teaches young minds that they are but animals of a higher order. The social architects then shake their heads in frustration when many of those young act like ungoverned animals and grow, in some cases, to be adults who do things, routinely, that even the animal world wouldn’t normally do.

When keeping God’s divine manual of life for His creation called man from the minds of children, should it be a wonder that they grow to see nothing wrong with unbridled activities that lead to unwanted births? The solution is simple in the reprobate minds of the legislators and courts who adhere to the evolutionary view that man is but another animal, thus subject to being eliminated if an inconvenience. The satanic lie, evolution, now brings this generation in America to the point that more than 50 million human beings have been murdered as surely as have been the hundreds of millions of people slaughtered by the barbarians of the past, and by more modern genocidal maniacs like Stalin, Hitler, Mao Tse-tung, and the rest. The God of the universe, however, says it plainly, putting His all-knowing finger on the problem.

Again, Paul the apostle wrote under divine inspiration, using ancient reprobate thinkers as example: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things” (Romans 1:18-23).

Despite the grandiose plans coming out of the politicians and bureaucrats of America and the world, which proposes to know what is best for us lesser mortals, while this generation rages toward God’s judgment and wrath, confusion reigns among supposedly the best and brightest. One liberal, who like others of her ilk claims to know what’s best for the masses of their perceived underlings, seems to have had a brain-glitch recently. She made a statement of what she obviously believes, but normally would never say for public consumption:

“In an astonishing admission, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she was under the impression that legalizing abortion with the 1973 Roe v. Wade case would eliminate undesirable members of the populace, or as she put it ‘populations that we don’t want to have too many of.’

Her remarks, set to be published in the New York Times Magazine this Sunday but viewable online now, came in an in-depth interview with Emily Bazelon titled, ‘The Place of Women on the Court.’…

‘the ruling… surprised me. [Harris v. McRae–in 1980 the court upheld the Hyde Amendment, which forbids the use of Medicaid for abortions.] Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of…'” (Ginsburg: I thought Roe was to rid undesirables Justice discusses ‘growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of’” WorldNetDaily, 7/8/09)

Those who champion worshipful attention to planet earth’s environment, demanding that habitat for a species of bird or fish must be protected at all costs, while being unable to understand that it is a horrific evil to murder even one human infant in the womb, much less many millions, exhibit thinking that can only be classified as insanity. It comes from the same, now totally reprobate mind that still thinks he can defeat Almighty God, even though he—Satan—knows up close and personal the omnipotence of the great “I AM.”

Pelosi Censors Republicans

Friday, July 17th, 2009

I a typical Democrat move, the House Dem leader, Nan Pelosi, shut down debate on the floor when Republicans tried to have their say. Of course that is the Democrat way; don’t let anyone else talk or make alternate suggestions.

Monday night Democrats voted to shut down the U.S. House Representatives rather than allow a handful of Republican Congressmen to speak on the floor. What could have been so offensive or frightening about our discourse that Speaker Pelosi felt she had to protect her party by gagging free speech in the House?

In fact, we had planned to speak on the lack of transparency of the House since Democrats took control. We had planned to criticize Speaker Pelosi for repeatedly denying Members, the media, and the public to right to read legislation before it was voted on. We were set to discuss House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s statement last week that if his Members were required to read the Democrats’ healthcare reform package before it was voted on, it would fail.

So the Speaker obviously feels that if the public is truly aware of her party’s agenda, they will reject it. She is now making sure the public is kept in the dark by trampling the centuries-old democratic traditions of the House.

What are those traditions? Every day that the House is in session, following the final vote of the day, representatives are allowed the privilege of free speech on the House floor in what is known as “Special Orders.” They may speak for one minute, five minutes, or one hour segments, and must request their time in advance. Time is allocated equally to both parties on a first-come basis.

Since the advent of live C-SPAN coverage of the House, this has provided a national televised outlet for both Republicans and Democrats to speak to the nation on topics they feel were not adequately addressed during regular order in the House, during which the Democrat majority has the parliamentary ability to limit debate and speeches.

Special Orders therefore frequently serves as a political safety valve if the party in the majority becomes too dictatorial during debate, using their majority status to truly oppress the minority’s ability to debate and offer amendments.

That is now the case in the House, with the Democrat majority under Pelosi repeatedly rejecting House rules to ram a far-left agenda through before the public has time to learn what is actually in the bills.

This is what we were committed to bring to public light.

House rules require a bill be publicly posted for three days before it can be voted on. That basic rule was written by none other than Thomas Jefferson as part of the original rules package of the House, as it is essential to the survival of representative democracy.

The House can waive that rule if it chooses on specific occasions. The Republican-controlled House chose to waive it when considering the Patriot Act in 2001 following the terror attacks of 9-11. They thought there was enough of a national defense emergency to just bring the bill to the floor for a vote.

But Nancy Pelosi and her House Democrats have chosen to ignore the rule on every major issue taken up by the House this year, including:

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act – The Obama Stimulus: This one just had to pass that very day because time was a-wastin’ in getting those new jobs coming. We couldn’t wait for Members to read it. But then the President waited four days to sign it into law while he spent the weekend in Chicago, and months later none of the new jobs have come into existence.

The Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization (SCHIP): Speaker Pelosi couldn’t wait on this one either, although the deadline for reauthorization was still two months away.

The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act: Lilly was peddled as covering decades-old wage discrimination cases, but after waiting 20 years, Congress couldn’t wait one more day to let Members actually read the thing.

The Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009: No excuses at all on this one. They just didn’t want the details known.

The Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009: This one has been languishing since last October, but we suddenly had to pass it that day.

The AIG Bonus Tax Act: This had to get through right then, don’t mind the details, we just had to go after those bonuses. Only when we read what passed after the fact, the bill contained waivers for all of the same executives the bill was supposed to reign in, many with curiously close ties to Treasury Secretary and tax cheat Tim Geithner.

The Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2009: No rush whatever on this one time-wise, the Democrats just didn’t want people talking about the hundreds of billions given to foreign banks that should have gone to our troops.

The American Clean Energy and Security Act/National Cap-and-Trade Energy Tax:
No excuse was offered on this one, the Speaker just didn’t want anybody reading Henry Waxman’s 300 page amendment he sneaked in overnight before we were forced to vote. Three weeks later, the Senate shows no intention of taking up the bill before the opening day of dove season, if then.

There’s a reason all these bills are listed. The list constitutes every major policy bill undertaken by Congress this year. House Democrats are not just waiving the three-day rule — they have destroyed it, and are intentionally pushing their agenda to the floor with blindfolds on the media and the public.

This constitutes an astonishing and chilling acceleration of the assault on representative democracy that began in earnest this January.

Representative democracy works when a U.S. Representative listens to the input of their constituents, and votes the way the majority of their district would vote. Only a Representative can’t listen if no one has ever seen the bill, or had time to provide input. They have to vote blind, which for too many, is voting the way their leadership tells them.

This is what Republican House Members were going to the floor to say Monday night. We were set to decry the loss of openness in the House.

Instead, we were met with a slammed door by Democrats, who are now committed to burying truth along with democracy.

The Democrats are the majority — for now. They chose to silence debate on the floor by gagging House Republican Members from using their historical right to speak after the close of the day. But they cannot stop us from speaking outside the halls of Congress and letting the American public know the truth about their ongoing attack against the very foundations of a free Republic.
