Party of Perpetual Surrender (Democrats) Pass Iraqi Surrender Bill

True to form, the Democrats are pushing for defeat and surrender in Iraq, They have threatened to override the presidents promised veto of the bill.

WASHINGTON — A defiant Democratic-controlled Senate passed legislation Thursday that would require the start of troop withdrawals from Iraq by Oct. 1, propelling Congress toward a historic veto showdown with President Bush on the war.

The 51-46 vote was largely along party lines, and like House passage of the same bill a day earlier, fell far short of the two-thirds margin needed to overturn the president’s threatened veto. Nevertheless, the legislation is the first binding challenge on the war that Democrats have managed to send to Bush since they reclaimed control of both houses of Congress in January.

“The president has failed in his mission to bring peace and stability to the people of Iraq,” said Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.V., chairman of the Appropriations Committee. He later added: “It’s time to bring our troops home from Iraq.”

The $124.2 billion bill requires troop withdrawals to begin Oct. 1, or sooner if the Iraqi government does not meet certain benchmarks. The House passed the measure Wednesday by a 218-208 vote.

Across the Potomac River at the Pentagon, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, told reporters the war effort likely will “get harder before it gets easier.”

Republicans said the vote amounted to little more than political theater because the bill would be dead on arrival after reaching the White House. Bush said he will veto the bill so long as it contains a timetable on Iraq, as well as $20 billion in spending added by Democrats.

“The solution is simple: Take out the surrender date, take out the pork, and get the funds to our troops,” said Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., sided with Republicans in opposing the bill.

“We delude ourselves if we think we can wave a legislative wand and suddenly our troops in the field will be able to distinguish between Al Qaeda terrorism or sectarian violence. Or that Iraqis will suddenly settle their political differences because our troops are leaving,” Lieberman said.

Democrats said the bill was on track to arrive on the president’s desk by Tuesday, the anniversary of Bush’s announcement aboard the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln that major combat operations in Iraq had ended.

“The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on Sept. 11, 2001, and still goes on,” Bush said on May 1, 2003, in front of a huge “Mission Accomplished” banner.

Bush since has acknowledged that the war has not progressed as he had hoped. After the November elections in which Democrats swept up enough seats to take the majority, he announced a new strategy that involved sending additional forces to Iraq.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said that if Democratic lawmakers timed the sending of the bill to the anniversary of Bush’s speech, it would be “a ridiculous P.R. stunt.”

“That is the height of cynicism, and absolutely so unfortunate for the men and women in uniform and their families who are watching the debate,” she said Thursday morning.

As Democrats pushed through the bill, Petraeus depicted the situation in Iraq as “exceedingly complex and very tough.” He said there have been some improvements in the two months since Bush’s troop buildup began, but “there is vastly more work to be done across the board. … We are just getting started with the new effort.”

Asked at a Pentagon news conference Thursday about the impact on the effort in Iraq if that legislation passed, Petraeus said, “I have tried to stay clear of the political minefields of various legislative proposals.”

In the House, two Republicans — Reps. Wayne Gilchrest of Maryland and Walter Jones of North Carolina — joined 216 Democrats in passing the bill. Voting no were 195 Republicans and 13 Democrats.

This isn’t a blog, this is plagiarism. Try writing some original material instead of cutting and pasting articles written by others.

  2. Steve says:

    Hey Guy,
Sorry I didn’t live up to your expectations.
Of course, no one MADE you come here and read this.
Since you are so disappointed in this blog, my guess is your time and efforts could probably be better served elsewhere.
Have a great day and God Bless!

  3. Beth says:

How can it be plagiarism when the links to the original sources of the articles are obviously listed? My guess is that “the guy” is a liberal democrat who doesnt like the general theme of this blog – conservative common sense that points us to the signs of the Lord’s return. But, that is just my guess.

    Hi Beth and Steve,

closing threads right in someone’s face just because his thoughts are an unusually serious challenge to your views may not be an example of intellectual grandeur but it certainly is a rather demonstrative way of expressing your stance on the procedures of mental hygiene and democratic development. Actually, I’m not surprised because this blog seems to be about religious totalitarianists wallowing in their own dirt anyway. Wallow on then!

Adieu, and may the Flying Spaghetti Monster bless you!

  5. Steve says:

“Unusually serious challenge to your views”? Nope, we just don’t see any point in arguing with you when there is no chance of changing your mind. It’s a waste of time for all of us.
OK, I’ll agree not to close the comments, but understand that I won’t waste time repeating what I’ve already told you once before in a post.
    Thanks and God Bless!!

  6. Beth says:

Mental Hygiene? Religious totalitarianists? Flying spaghetti monster? Is this guy for real? He wants the flying spaghetti monster to bless us and he says WE are strange.
This world just seems to get more and more weird each day.

  7. Steve says:

    Amen Sister, Amen.

  8. Thomas says:

    Hi Beth and Steve!

“we just don’t see any point in arguing with you when there is no chance of changing your mind.”

If turning from a Christian (inapprehensibly contemplating a “career” as catechist or friar) into an anti-religionist is not enough proof of my willingess and ability to change my mind, what is? Were you capable of arguing in a logically consistent way, you – like many of the authors I have read – could easily change my mind as often as your reasoning is superior to mine. After all, admitting to be wrong is much less mortifying than deliberately continuing to be wrong (for people who are up to intellectual integrity anyway). Unfortunately, your thinking techniques are grossly deficient and therefore your chances to convince me are extremely dim indeed. You should also take into account that a development like mine is equivalent to that of an analphabet who has learned to read. Once you CAN read, there is no return to analphabetism.

    “Mental Hygiene?”

How can you possibly find out if you are right or wrong if you avoid matching your views with conflicting ones? Of course, you need to be serious about it and learn how to do it properly. Sorry to tell you that without in-depth knowledge of analytical philosophy and science you are quite doomed to failure.

    “Religious totalitarianists?”

ALL theists are totalitarianists and the worst ones too because their gods trump ANY “earthly” dictator (as may be checked in numerous “holy” scriptures and via history itself). The fact that assertions about some god’s will are unexaminable (=arbitrary) while human tyrants can actually specify their ideas anytime (and may even be killed if they go too far) makes theism the most dangerous form of totalitarianism. It is principally incompatible with and a threat to democracy!

“He wants the flying spaghetti monster to bless us and he says WE are strange.”

Why didn’t you check the link? Pastafarianism is a rather intelligent PARODY on religion!

While I am here, I could as well dump what I had written for one of the threads you closed on me:

“needless to say we have heard each and every argument you listed here before”

Just what is so difficult about UNDERSTANDING them? Many of these arguments are LOGICAL and prove the ABSOLUTE falsity of your assumptions. Even you must (and actually do) accept the basic laws of logic as valid because anything you say PRESUPPOSES their validity.

“What is wrong with extra- or pre-marital sex is that God says it is wrong.”

As mentioned before: any statement about “God’s” will is equally untestable and therefore arbitrary. Morally, there is no difference between you and Muslim terrorists: you all do what you believe to be “God’s” will and none of you is able to prove to the other (or anyone else) that he/she is wrong. Also, if something is good or bad just because “God” says so, you would have to be ready to even torture and kill your own children in case “God” tells you to. If you are not (as I rather hope you are), you implicitely admit that “good” and “bad” are independent of what a god may want. Barbarianism or godless ethics – the choice is yours.

“I look at the miracle of life and I can only conclude that it is by NO ACCIDENT that we were made, but only by the hand of an ALMIGHTY GOD.”

Now THINK about this: ‘I look at the miracle of God and I can only conclude that it is by NO ACCIDENT that he was made, but only by the hand of an ALMIGHTY GOD (et in saecula saeculorum).’

“If you would like, I can list a host of books refuting your “scientific evidence”,”

There IS no scientific evidence FOR “God”! The non-existence of such evidence is the very reason why “God” does NOT occur in scientific theories. Deities can’t possibly explain anything at all because they require explanation themselves! It is only YOU THEISTS who make positive (though contradictory) statements about gods. Why not “simply” prove them and grab the Nobel Prize?

“you should know that we humans have a free will.”

Humans do NOT have a “free will” because that would mean they are free to will what they will (= contracausal = impossible). Instead, their ACTIONS are free in the sense that they can do or not do what they will or not will, depending on the situation (i.e. so long as there is no omniscient being. In this case, the whole universe would be totally predetermined.).

“neither Steve nor I will allow you to curse, make fun, or blaspheme our God – period.”

Don’t you think “God” – an “omnipotent” being! – is quite capable of defending himself? Apart from that, I just answered your question in form of a perfectly valid conclusion: either “God” does not exist or he is a deceptive bastard because he sneakily hides from me, leaving me in ignominious disbelief (just like many other of his allegedly beloved creatures). In any case, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY of degenerating to my former idiocy just because “God” has a morbid preference for gullible bootlickers. If THAT is his favourite public, he should have given us PORRIDGE instead of brains! If not, he had better come over and introduce himself to me – at f…..g last!

“I think you are quite arrogant to claim to know the Bible better than Christians.”

    1. I used to be a Christian myself and I even intensified my bible studies in the course of questioning my beliefs.
    2. I have talked to LOADS of Christians who were AGHAST at the biblical perversions I called their attention to.

“What you need to remember is that man caused sin – not God. Sin goes way back, but God didn’t make us sinners – man did.”

Check the “vase-comparison” again and think LOGICALLY!

“I suupose the implication here is that atheists have a internal moral code they live by.”

I haven’t said ANYTHING of the kind! Atheism is a NECESSARY prerequisite for morality though NOT sufficient. This fact alone, however, is reason enough for (peacefully!) fighting religion wherever it raises its ugly head.

“But in all actuality, atheists do not answer (yet) to a higher being (God) so where is the accountability? If you argue that your own conscience is your accountability, then I will have to laugh.”

…which is quite natural for someone who has no understanding of morality whatsoever. In fact, my conscience is so strong that the pressure of continually having to improve my behaviour is an extreme burden in every moment of my life because I am painfully aware that ANYTHING I do has a direct or indirect impact on other sentient beings. A particularly bad moral failure might even destroy my life (and remember: an atheist’s life is his ONLY one).

“I am not so perfect that I am above lying, cheating, stealing”

It usually does not occur to primitive rigorists that there are cases in which lying, cheating or stealing is morally acceptable or even obligatory. Read “The Elements of Moral Philosophy” by Rachels.

“God made man with a sexual organ that fits with a womans sexual organ.”

‘God made man with a sexual organ that fits with another man’s mouth and a…hole.’

“God made it so that only a man and woman can reproduce. He did that for a purpose.”

Why did he make sex that much of a delight then? It could as well be as un-exciting as taking a dump or so, at least for unmarried and gay people. “Purposes” are greatly variable anyway. Take a knife for instance: you can use it for making sandwiches AND you can cut someone’s throat.

“Being a former Bible believer, you should remember what happened at Sodom and Gomorrah.”

Oh yes, very much reminds me of the Holocaust. Actually, my respect for “God” is of about the same quality as my respect for Mr. H. …

“If homosexuality were normal in the sight of God, why cant two men or two women reproduce on their own?”

What you indiscriminately presuppose is the notion that sex is about reproducing ONLY – it is NOT! Learn psychology and sexology!

“Most of the philosophically educated people I know are total idiots.”

As a philosophical illiterate, you are not in a position to pass such a judgement, DEAR!

“isn’t it interesting that Thomas basically calls us “stupid”, “ignorant” and “foolish” every couple of paragraphs?”

May I ask you not to forget that I was AS stupid, ignorant and foolish myself once (which will always be the greatest embarrassment of my life)! I DO know what I am talking about!

“The Bible tells us that we can’t “earn” our way into heaven,”

Why care for anything whatsoever then?

“we get there by receiving the free gift of salvation from God from Jesus Christ.”

Unadulterated dictatorial arbitrariness – what a marvellous example for us humans!

  9. Beth says:

    Thomas,
While I find your language quite vile and offensive, I did read your above comment in its entirety. Since Jesus never defended Himself – I dont see the need to defend myself or Him to you. You arrogantly believe you have all the answers, yet your so-called ‘logic’ is completely twisted and ridiculous.

Apparently you missed my most recent reply to you under the article entitled “Study: Religion Good for Kids”. I am reposting it below, so that you can see that even though I find you very militant and to be perfectly honest – odd, you have helped me in my walk with Christ.

    Thomas,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for reminding me of a very important truth. Believe it or not – you have reminded me of something that Jesus said. Matthew 7:6 says “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not cast your pearls to swine. If you do they may trample them under their feet, and then turn to tear you to pieces”. What this verse is speaking to is that pigs were unclean animals according to God’s law. Anyone who touched an unclean animal became ceremonially unclean and could not go to the temple to worship until the ‘uncleanness’ was removed. Jesus says that we should not entrust holy teachings to unholy people. It is futile to try to teach holy concepts to people who refuse to listen and will only tear apart what we say. It means that we should not stop giving God’s Word to unbelievers, but we should be wise in discerning in what teach to whom, so that we will not waste our time. But, I am sure I did not have to explain that to someone with such vast Biblical knowledge as you.

I should have realized much earlier that you are unwilling to listen to anything concerning God. It was obvious from your militant attitude in the beginning and I continued to reply to your condemnation. I am truly sorry for wasting both our time.

Also, just for the record…….you may very well be more educated than I (although my parents would probably disagree considering the many years of college tuition they have paid on my behalf), but I would put my salvation up against your “head knowledge” any day. You can be the most intelectual and intelligent person in the whole world, but at Judgement Day, your intelligence will not get you in to heaven. (Your condescending attitude on earth isnt gonna help you much either). You may not believe now, but one day (soon) you will. It’s a big risk you’re taking.

    Thank you,
    Beth

  10. Thomas says:

    Hi Beth!

“I find your language quite vile and offensive,”

Fortunately, it cannot possibly be more vile and offensive than the CONTENT of what you unsuccessfully try to disguise with “nice” language. A particularly repulsive effect of religion is that it mentally degenerates people to the point where they utter the most shocking monstrosities without even noticing. Besides, I understand that complaining about my language is much easier than providing argumentative substance.

“Since Jesus never defended Himself – I dont see the need to defend myself or Him to you.”

Exactly my experience with most of your kind: as you think you have the “right” to stick to your beliefs – no matter how deranged they may be – you naturally have no inclination to examine, modify or even abandon them. This is the kind of irresponsibility which makes irrationalists the most dangerous people there are!

“You arrogantly believe you have all the answers,”

Omniscience is impossible but I do have quite a few answers to quite a few important questions. You had the opportunity to prove me wrong but of course, repeating arbitrary and contradictory statements is not the way to do it.

“yet your so-called ‘logic’ is completely twisted and ridiculous.”

You make no attempt to go into detail and so I have to take this remark as yet another display of intellectual helplessness. In any case, “my” logic is in perfect concordance with analytic philosophy. Since you know nothing about it, your criticism is rather insolent. For basic instruction, read “Atheism: The Case Against God” by George H. Smith.

“Apparently you missed my most recent reply to you under the article entitled “Study: Religion Good for Kids”.”

No, I didn’t but you had closed the thread, remember?

“you have reminded me of something that Jesus said. Matthew 7:6 says “Do not give dogs what is sacred;”

Why not? What does “sacred” mean? Who decides what is sacred and why? Just what is objectionable about dogs? (Yes, philosophy is about QUESTIONING!)

“do not cast your pearls to swine. If you do they may trample them under their feet, and then turn to tear you to pieces”.”

What is the point in defaming peaceful animals like this? Pigs usually don’t attack humans without a reason.

“What this verse is speaking to is that pigs were unclean animals according to God’s law.”

So? Pigs may be “dirty” (just like YOU after falling into a puddle of mud) but still, they are sentient beings and as intelligent as other animals who may be “claner”. Apart from that, “God” should not have created dirt in the first place if he dislikes it so much. He appears to be a peculiarly addled little demiurge (or is it a masochistic disposition?).

“Anyone who touched an unclean animal became ceremonially unclean and could not go to the temple to worship until the ‘uncleanness’ was removed.”

No problem with water and a piece o’ soap, I should think…

“Jesus says that we should not entrust holy teachings to unholy people.”

Whatever “holy” and “unholy” is supposed to mean…
According to your delusions, ALL men are “God’s” creatures. It is extremely unfair of him to withhold his “wonderful” teachings from some of them. I would not treat ANY of my children like this but as opposed to “God”, I am a MORAL person.

“It is futile to try to teach holy concepts to people who refuse to listen and will only tear apart what we say.”

    1. You can only “tear apart” what you have heard because you have listened to it.
    2. “Tearing apart” is common analytic procedure. Good quality will survive it!

“It means that we should not stop giving God’s Word to unbelievers, but we should be wise in discerning in what teach to whom, so that we will not waste our time. But, I am sure I did not have to explain that to someone with such vast Biblical knowledge as you.”

Indeed! The passage you have cited here is one of the reasons why I consider the Bible itself to be highly unclean. No decent philosopher needs to draw such comparisons between human and non-human animals, degrading both of them just to satisfy the vanity of his followers. Only VERY primitive people will resort (and respond) to methods like this.

“I should have realized much earlier that you are unwilling to listen to anything concerning God.”

Blatant nonsense! Most of what I write here is a direct and precise reaction to diverse religious assertions. It is YOU who can’t be bothered (or simply don’t know how) to argue in detail and with the necessary conceptual clarity!

“you may very well be more educated than I (although my parents would probably disagree considering the many years of college tuition they have paid on my behalf),”

It seems that only very few colleges offer specific measures against mental restrictions caused by religious stupidification. Most of them aren’t compulsary anyway and so graduates tend to leave college as specialists in their fields but with catastrophic intellectual deficits. Depressingly, it is no better over here in Europe.

“You can be the most intelectual and intelligent person in the whole world, but at Judgement Day, your intelligence will not get you in to heaven.”

You know what: I DON’T CARE! If there is a god and if he will punish me for what I have thought and done in my life, he deserves nothing but my deepest CONTEMPT! The most repugnant torturer and murderer in the universe has no f…..g right to judge me but if he does, I shall acquiesce his barbarity with pride!

  11. Steve says:

Beth said: “You can be the most intelectual and intelligent person in the whole world, but at Judgement Day, your intelligence will not get you in to heaven.”

Thomas said: “You know what: I DON’T CARE! If there is a god and if he will punish me for what I have thought and done in my life, he deserves nothing but my deepest CONTEMPT! The most repugnant torturer and murderer in the universe has no f…..g right to judge me but if he does, I shall acquiesce his barbarity with pride!”

Thomas, your last comment personifies the exact problem with you and your ilk.

  12. Beth says:

    Thomas,
As I have said before, your comments and contempt for God are nothing new under the Son. You atheists say that Christians are brainwashed; however, the comments from atheists on this blog are all identical. You all sound EXACTLY alike! You use twisted logic and twenty dollar words to try to make yourselves sound intelligent, when in all actuality, you do quite the opposite.

You said, “You know what: I DON’T CARE! If there is a god and if he will punish me for what I have thought and done in my life, he deserves nothing but my deepest CONTEMPT! The most repugnant torturer and murderer in the universe has no f…..g right to judge me but if he does, I shall acquiesce his barbarity with pride!” I have to say that is probably the most ignorant statement I have ever heard (but dont worry, you arent the first to have made it – many of your other atheist compatriots have made this statement long before you). I can guarantee one thing – when you face God the last emotion you will feel is pride! You want me to defend each and every statement you make, yet there is only one true defense and it is in the blood of Jesus. So in answer to every one of your strange and militant statements I say look to the Bible. You have already said that you know more than I do about the Bible so it should be easy for you to find the truth. The problem is you dont WANT to see the truth. You are blinded by satan, so it is a total waste of time to debate you – you are UNWILLING (not unable) to understand.

You obviously vehemently deny that God exists, so why not take your “analytical philoshopy” to an atheist website where everyone agrees with you. You do not like to be told you are wrong, so why keep coming back? No one here is going to agree with your atheist viewpoint. My guess is that you are only interested in blaspheming God (maybe because of a painful past?). It is very apparent that you are not a serious seeker of the truth. Your goal here is to talk down to us in an effort to make yourself appear very intelligent and philosophical. All I can say is – you are wasting your time. We have heard it all before and we have something that you cannot understand. When the Holy Spirit of God lives in your heart, attacks from unbelievers (or anyone else) have no effect. When you face your Maker, you can philosophize all you want and it will get you no where unless you accept Jesus before you die or before His return.

So many Biblical prophecies have already been fulfilled and you are proving another one to be true. The Bible tells us that in the last days men will be God-haters and their love will grow cold. I tell ya, Thomas, you just dont have any idea how your attitude toward God and Christians inspires me and causes me to love Jesus even more. You can laugh at me all you want to, but I thank God for Jesus and the free gift of salvation He gave to me. The truth is that people like you just make me praise the Lord even more.

You are welcome to comment here whenever you like. If you really have questions, please feel free to ask, but please understand that your attacks are a waste of time.
